Sounds like the usual excuses.
Also how can the queue issue not be a priority?
It’s always been like that during large fights even before the culling change. For some reason it’s the worst in SM.
I think our NA folks need to lighten up a bit and spend more time in game then on the boards.
I got ~180 badges in 4 hours after reset. I’m not sure what you’re doing but you’re doing something wrong.
Oozo,
The patch was never an actual fix. It is really a reallocation of resources, a trade, if you will. It is highly likely that individuals are judging this patch based on the false pretense of “fixed culling” when in actuality it simply shows more enemies and less friendlies, which I don’t see how that makes WvW less playable. There certainly could be a bug, you know, in addition to the absurd queues and pop caps.
For the record, someone has to play the devil’s advocate here.
Riven,
Yes it’s not a fix but the change they made is horrible.
When running with HB and a couple of other people following us we into groups that turn out to be up to 5 or more times larger then we see initially all the time.
The new system is so easy to abuse. Just stack up with 25+ people and the other team will only see a couple until they’re in hit range.
The old system was horrible when you had a big group but at least it was consistently horrible and it was better for smaller groups. The new configuration is so random you can never figure out what’s going on until it’s too late.
I bet that will just leave the “randoms” more lost because I’m sure every commander just like to work with their own guild/group.
I’ve even saw a commander (No names or guilds will be said) say once: “Whoever isn’t from my guild, please follow the other commander, not me”.
There’s several reasons for that. The main ones being the other commander needs people and you eat up boons that could’ve gone to guild members.
bla
Sorry but we still run into groups that we didn’t see at all before.
On top of that we can’t have someone lead without a commander tag because they can get culled randomly, people disappear and pop up randomly, small scale culling seems messed up, …
If you call this a step forward I don’t want to know what you consider a step backward.
To be honest it somewhat feels as a way to draw attention from all the issues that still plague WvW.
This Feb WvW better be here soon and it’d better have some fixes.
If you don’t like dying in the JP then don’t do the JP? The people that camp it do it exactly for threads like this.
I think the update stated that it was not a fix to culling, which is server side. I think the new system sets priorities for what loads first on the user end, and that users of high end computers really shouldn’t notice too much of a difference.
The culling in the above video really isn’t bad at all compared to what I’m used to.
Wrong
There is 1 client side change (the placeholder models) and 1 server side change (affinity culling).
Again, complaining about your client not being able to keep up while playing on a 2010mbp is just facepalm worthy.
I play WvW in NA tier 1 where there are massive battles all the time. The new culling system is a huge improvement over the old one. I no longer run blindly into enemy zergs because I can actually see them. I see placeholders for about 20 of my teammates, which is fine. Everything seems to be working as it should be. I run a low spec MacBook Pro 2010.
Good to hear that your low spec pc can now more or less handle WvW.
But the people that did actually spent some cash got shafted.
It’s much better now than before so why revert?
Because it’s easy to record how bad it is currently?
BG is back in T2 already? Given the vastly superior coverage you guys had over us and taking all the point pretty much over night, I thought for sure you would have the firepower to sustain in T1 indefinitely. Did you lose oceanic/sea/euro guilds or something?
Good luck in tier 1, you’ll need it
The new system is better for me and I haven’t run into a situation where I’ve been killed by an invisible mass of enemies yet, which was happening to me with the old system. I did have trouble seeing allies when we were organizing a golem rush though, but overall it’s an improvement for me.
I’m sure we can fix that for you starting tonight
This question is total spam. I would say that most people that I know are quiet happy with this new system, WvW works a lot better than before now after the patch. If you however are having technical difficulties, check out the support forum and address your problems there. That way you might actually get help and you just might find a solution to your problem.
Considering my system beats the recommended specs by quite a bit, runs on a clean win7 system with most up to date drivers I doubt that the support forum will be of any help.
Maybe you should actually join WvW with a WvW guild once?
Current system is worse, leading without tag is impossible when in guild groups. And when following a commander tag I feel like I’m playing starcraft, looking at the minimap most of the time.
I wait with impatience to see what fake pretext Anet will say this time.
The one guy working on WvW ran out of testing time?
He checked queue numbers, not population numbers. Last time I checked those aren’t the same thing.
There was quite a bit of reports on how this system was worse when it was tested in DEC. ANet implemented it anyway after silently removing the discussion about it.
I read along most of that thread as it updated. There were lots of negative comments, but far far far more positive ones.
It was mainly negative feedback. Only at the end TL started spamming it with positive feedback for whatever reason.
The last couple of days I’ve been having a lot more culling issues, people disappearing randomly, zergs still popping up, …
It’s been nearly 6 months since launch. WvW hasn’t seen any real work and now we have arguably worse culling. I understand that this apparently seems to be an unsolvable issue for ANet but maybe it’s time to hire someone who has dealt with this before. Either way I hope the final improvement will be implemented soon as it’s really needed right now.
This is with GW2 on a SSD and a system with 16GB DDR3 ram, i7 Ivy Bridge processor and a fairly decent connection. I don’t even want to know what it’s like for people with a worse system. (Yes I’m aware culling is mainly a server side issue/system)

Wow you really get kitteny after taking SM back?
The story behind it:
VoTF taking SM
VoTF wiping HB
HB leaving map bcz they cry
VoTF leaves map
HB comes back
HB takes SM
HB happy
Afaik he just wanted some people in SM to fight, no reason to get so upset.
Yes you wiped us, well played and congratulations. But next time you can also add the fact that you outnumbered us 2:1 if not more
There was quite a bit of reports on how this system was worse when it was tested in DEC. ANet implemented it anyway after silently removing the discussion about it.
Not going to bother with these. Good job sticking it to WvW players again.
There is a threshold of players that will be sent to your screen at present based on the total number of users on a screen but this will be changed to represent two seperate pools of players one for friendlies and one for enemies.
when you fight 60-70 people with 20 ish then those 60-70 are going to be culled down no matter what under either system, but under the current one we very rarely lose sight of our warband leader.
when we were playing in the december culling trial under similar loads, we would still not see all of the enemy players but our warband leader and half the warband would be dissapearing at regular intervals. They switched it off and we went back to having a reliably visible warband under extreme loads again. The december trial also seemed to be more dramatic in chosing who was and wasn’t loaded and dropped visible players very quickly causing friendlies and players to blink in and out of shot.
I respect the efforts to make changes but if it is like the previous system it will have a disastrous effect on organised guild groups.
Pretty much this, we had the exact same problem.
lettucemode, culling will never be removed completely so I’m not sure what you’re talking about.
The current culling situation (just picking arbitrary numbers here), allows say 50 models to load, be it either enemy or ally. The December system splits the cap to say 25 each side. For your standard zerg this is an improvement. They were previously using their 50 cap on themselves, so by cutting down the cap to only 25 of their allies, it allows at least 25 of the enemy to load to get a rough idea of position.
I wonder what happens at the 50 cap? Do we get with placeholders for every extra person over 50? That would make sense to me and would allay your concerns.
How is your client going to use a placeholder for something it doesn’t have data about? If you only get info of 50 players from the server only those exists according to your client.
So this confirms it. You change is not addressing culling just loading.
<nods>
That is what I thought too: in this patch, nothing gets fixed for people that have fast PCs (with SSD drives, for example).
We can only hope that things gets fixed later for everyone, but this month won’t help me at all.
He says confidently without actually having tested or seen the system in action.
And he’s normally wrong, considering cached models/textures will load faster then models/textures loaded from disk (even if it’s an ssd).
Habib,
What’s the number of allies that get reported to clients before culling kicks in? I’m really not interested in playing the “find the commander” game again when running with guild people.
Tried the pie as well yesterday and I’d say there’s not a single food that can compare. With a mix of invader/knights gear I’m over 50% crit with fury while using kits.
Considering the amount of lifesteal procs you can get with grenades/bombs it’s simply too good to not be using it.
I’d say the pie is just bugged or they forgot to add an ICD. Having an ICD on the sigil but not on the food doesn’t make sense.
As for the venom, it’s really easy to get in big quantities.
I belive it’s more a collection of WvW guilds grouping together
aka stacking
On a more serious note, thanks for the good fights this week. Enjoyed them a lot.
(edited by waeren.9743)
In tier1 and plenty of enemies to fight, everything you’d ever want.
We have good guilds in most time zones but could use a more Australian/Oceanic/NA manpower. Everyone else is welcome too of course.
As Herbal said, we haven’t ran turtles since the healing change.
Guess Agg is a bit upset after our reset fights.
Also when making videos trying to show fights/tags, please make sure they’re watchable instead of blurry. :/ (sorry if it’s just my work pc acting up)
(edited by waeren.9743)
Even the so glorified HB runs in 5s and when you die 5vs1 to them you get laughed at, what a joke… you cant even try to tickle a 1n1 out of that guild its a brainless aoe zerg.
We’re a WvW guild, not a duel guild, sorry for WvWing in a WvW zone. As for the laughing I got no excuse for that and if it was 5v1 I don’t get why they’d do it. (unless you’re a culling abusing thief)
Remove jumping puzzles instead, problem solved.
Too much asura, not enough char.
It’s a difference in playstyle I guess. I’m honestly not that interested in small scale stuff as it just seems to dull and stupidly imbalanced to me.
If I’d want to play 5v5 I’d be looking at another game with gameplay that works for it.
Looks like BG pulling another all-weeker and will finally be moving back up to T1, just ashame it took so many bandwagoners like ND jumping ship to do so
Had fun last night in SoR-BL vs. TC, made bank vs them and there poor organization.
To be honest it looks more like you guys just gave up.
Off with their heads! No mercy!
As mentioned by others, you’re in a WvW zone. Red is dead. (unless I need to run somewhere fast)
I haven’t had any serious issues with playing on NA while being in Europe. I can only remember 1 night where I had spike issues for a couple hours.
Considering how WvW works it should have never been split between NA/EU.
Culling just needs to get fixed asap. It’s getting pretty ridiculous how long it’s been a problem now.
Neither system has been good and we still have pve eating up bandwidth as well.
I’ve gotten 150+ in an evening. Doing jp isn’t worth it.
Implement it the way Team Fortress 2 did with their Spy class. Cloaking is not removed on taking damage. However, if suffering a condition in that game, the Spy – though still cloaked – is “revealed” by the condition. If they are set on fire, you see their silhouette fringed in flame; if they are bleeding, they remain cloaked but leave a trail of blood.
Furthermore, cloaking in Team Fortress 2 uses a timing device. One version of the cloaking device counts down at a certain rate while cloaked and will only recharge when uncloaked. The other cloaking device counts down to the uncloaked state much more quickly than the first. However, unlike the first cloaking device, it will recharge while the Spy remains motionless. Lastly, the Spy can not attack while cloaked. The Spy must first remove their cloak, then they can attack.
Implement similar mechanics in GW2. Thieves – when stealthed – will use up 1 point of initiative per unit of time (whatever that may be; 1 per second, 1 per 2 seconds, etc.). Stealth then becomes a trade-off of cost:benefit. If the Thief wants to remain stealthed for a longer period of time, they will use up more of their initiative, thus decreasing the effectiveness of their attacks from lack of same. If they want to burst with a high initiative pool, they won’t be able to stealth for as long.
With Thieves no longer permitted to attack from stealth, the reveal debuff could be eliminated altogether along with stealth durations of skills. As long as the Thief wisely manages their initiative resource, they will be free to enter and exit stealth for as often and as long as that resource remains available. This will reward skilled Thieves while leaving the unskilled button mashers without stealth or without the ability to burst an opponent.
This is a pretty good mechanic I think.
We all know that if their damage would be less, we wouldn’t have that many issues with the stealth as such…The proposed mechanic seems a decent base for a trade of between stealth, movement and damage abilities.
So if we follow tf2 logic then thieves will be able to oneshot people with a backstab? Sounds like a good trade to me!
If you’re playing large scale WvW then the OP is correct.
The sole reason for playing my engi is the vulnerability stacking, if you’re ok with doing just that then feel free to roll one.
If not then any class other then thief/ranger should give you a lot more fun.
I use two superior fire and they don’t do anywhere near enough to justify taking 30% off anything much less the nerfs to all the kits we suffered that they didn’t detail.
I think you might want to read up on how sigils work.
The breakout event is just stupid right now.
I don’t mind the fact that it’s there (it shouldn’t be there but ah well), I do mind that it can be started at the most ridiculous times and can be started over and over.
Either it should get some serious changes to when it can start or the champion mob needs to tuned down significantly (13k damage on 1.9k toughness & exotic isn’t normal)
Who are your BG reps and what are they doing to solve this? Who is PC Guild? Have they identified the elementist who was hacking yet? Tell me what steps have been done to find this hacker.
Never heard of PC guild.
As mentioned a couple times already, if he’s somewhere we can’t see him what should we do? (serious question)
Again I’m not in game and at work, so I have no idea who is online currently.
I understand your anger but you’re sounding like a broken record right now. Like I suggested earlier, maybe it’s time to take a break and calm down.
Step 1: Analyze your play. Learn from your mistakes.
Step 2: Put your new insight into practice.
Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have absolutely flawless play.
Step 4: Now you can make suggestions for what is actually OP or not.
Quoted for truth.
Guys – Can you all stop posting/discussing about the exploit here to avoid the thread get derailed and get locked?
You guys already know our stance which we all are against all kind of exploit/hack. Please note that we all have the same tool which is screenshot saving and report button. Please do yours and send the evidence to Anet directly and to those related guild leaders to rectify via ingame mail/PM. No point to post it here to flame.
Dude, so afraid of the truth. What is wrong with you? You have done nothing and reporting takes time. You got offended when it was pointed out someone in your guild hacked. If you can not do anything, these screenshots will keep coming. Fix you crap and you will see nothing. Please stop making excuses and defending, it makes you look worse than the actual hackers.
I think you need to take a step back, clear your mind and return.
Report the people to ANet or a BG representative. Most people here would report if they could.
