So when you finish training a mastery there’s no real notification like when you level up. Does any xp I gain after this get used towards training a different line in the background? Could the same system when leveling normally be used to prevent “wasting” xp by making a notification in the bottom right?

The first two days I played I didn’t experience a single bug and I was all over the first two maps. I also participated in the betas so yes it was tested. I did notice a lot of mobs were pretty tough and I was expecting to go down a lot with full zerk gear. But I’m pretty sure that’s what they were aiming for. I’ll probably switch to some more toughness, vitality or healing power soon. As for map meta events, once the community learns how to do them they’ll get easier as well.

Please please please ANET. Stand your ground. Weren’t Masteries and Unlocking Elite Spec supposed to take longer than getting to level 80 in the base game? Why are you folding to the elite spec complaints and not doing anything about the mastery farming?

I don’t understand… How does 250 versus 400 change your gaming experience?

It doesn’t yet. I already had my elite spec on my main. Now I just have a bunch of hero points I can’t use.
Most of the other characters I play will have it soon too now. It’s faster, but I won’t feel the same sense of achievement as before, and I’ll be less motivated to explore.

I for one am very grateful for the change to 250 HP. The only thing that 400HP challenged was my patience. I just hope that they don’t nerf the actual difficulty of content like raids and fractals cause I do like to challenge my skill.

I understand that some my feel a sense of loss of progression but the truth is that there is tons of progression to be made with masteries, fractals, raids, guild halls, precursor/legendary crafting, skins, achievements etc. Locking fun game play mechanics behind an unnecessary grind wall is not needed and is, quite frankly, bad design.

It’s true there are still areas of progression in the game, but as we can see from the response to CoF farming, masteries are not one of those areas. The idea that fun game play is locked behind the elite spec isn’t true. You can play all the HoT content without it and calling it a grind is subjective.

The fact that anet made this change less than a week after launch is what really worries me. What if raids are launched and they’re truly challenging but people don’t have the patience to learn how to beat it? If you don’t have that patience to get the elite spec in more than a few days are you sure your going to want raids to still be difficult?

I was okay with the 400 point unlock, but a whole lot of people weren’t, so I can unerstand why anet went this direction. It’s a compromise that keeps the progression element, but adequately addresses the percieved lack of reward for doing all those old world hero points, and gives people the option of getting in to Hot and playing it with a fully functional elite spec on their belived and most accomplished characters.

It’s a good half measure. They’re still retaining the idea that the elites require significant play investment in a character, but better rewarding preparation and giving options.

I would have been sad to see them go account bound or permanent unlocks, but this method is pretty alright. You still have to put in a good amount of effort on a character to hit that unlock, but if you already put in a lot of effort it’s better rewarded now, and if it isn’t you have good options for the current and future elite specs. Get them fast by doing more challenging content, or get them slow by doing a lot of core points and a few easy 10 point challenges.

This means, as we move forward and more and more elite specs are released, you have good options for alts, and good long term progressions for characters you care about having every single one.

250 is a pretty nice sweet spot for still keeping it a meaningful amount of progression, but not making that progression feel like a lengthy gate with not much choice in how to accomplish it.

I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t think this was the right solution.

The biggest problem I have with it is that this is a sign that this will FOREVER be the standard.

GW2 will always be about instant gratifiaction. It makes me worried about raids.

I’m worried about the game as a whole not just raids based on this.

The idea that it was taking too long four days after launch doesn’t make sense to me. Four days isn’t long enough for people to really get a sense of how things will be in the long run. Once I had some masteries under my belt and a decent understanding of the maps, getting those points became a lot easier. Each character after will be faster because I’ll have masteries that expedite the process and I’ll know the maps better every time through.

Now if you’ve done the preperation, you can immediatly have the elite spec for exploring the jungle. It feels like using a bunch of tomes to get to 80 and then playing the game. I guess this is the point where most of us differ. I voted for progression.

You also talk about the lack of reward for doing old world hero challenges which agree with. However, I think now they’ll be even more trivialized because you can get so many in the Maguuma that you don’t need many old world points.

What if they just balanced the amount of points you get from each challenge accross all the maps so that difficult challenges reward more points and easy challenges like the channeling ones give less. Then you could take your time getting a lot of easy ones and a few kittenes. Or you could quickly get all the kittenes and a few easy ones.

Nope, all these people saying it was the right choice are here because they complained enough and now are getting their way. Most people who were happy with it probably didn’t bother defending Anet on the forums against this “I WANT IT NOW” attack. Anet should have stood their ground. I think they should actually go the other way because I and many others were able to max it in 2 days which isn’t long enough.

Pet Peeves

in Ranger

Posted by: wolfram.8291

wolfram.8291

Rangers have to manually mouse-click a UI button to activate two of their profession mechanic controls.
This can be addressed by consolidating the redundancy between the F1, F2, and the “guard/avoid combat” button

Solution 1

  • F3 – While in combat command your pets to return to you and avoid combat until you give a new command. While out of combat, stow your pets.
  • Entering combat while your pets are stowed will reactivate them and command them to avoid combat.
  • Using any pet command while your pets are stowed will reactivate them.

Solution 2

  • F1 – Toggle pet mode
  • F3 – Stow Pet
  • Activating Guard mode while you have an enemy targeted commands your pets to lock onto that target until it is defeated or you give a new command.
  • Using any pet command while your pets are stowed will reactivate them.

Pet modes:

  • Guard – Commands pets to attack foes you are attacking or foes attacking you.
  • Avoid Combat – Commands pets not to attack.

Future PvP to PvE Gear

in PvP

Posted by: wolfram.8291

wolfram.8291

After hearing/reading about the plans for PvP rewards I’m left with a “few” questions.

1. How will the PvP crafting system be affected?
Will we still be able to salvage and craft PvP gear?

2. How will the PvP locker be affected. Will we still be able to store PvP skins and transfer them between characters? Will this feature be disabled for PvP gear we also use in PvE? Will we get a PvE bank in the PvP lobby

3. How will the conversion from PvP to PvE work specifically? Will we get account/soul/unbound versions of the PvP gear in PvE? Will it have stats? Will it be a consumable skin?

The third question concerns me the most because of “Existing PvP skins will still have value with upcoming changes, so it benefits you greatly to continue filling out your collection.”. This suggests that PvP gear might not be account/soul bound when converted to PvE making some of those items very valuable to aquire in PvP and simultaneously decreasing the value of their counterparts in PvE. A good example of this would be crafting PvP Runic Sword and selling it in PvE as Infinite Light.

At first I thought this would be a ridiculous idea because of the backlash PvE people will have for how “easy” it might be to acquire gear that’s more difficult to acquire in PvE. However, if we can sell PvP skins in PvE, it will actually be easier to buy and it will give PvPers a much needed source of gold. Obviously there would need to be some balance to make them as difficult to acquire in PvP as PvE.

TL/DR Should I be crafting/hoarding PvP skins I want for myself in PvE or to sell in PvE.

I like this idea. I feel obligated to play every day because I don’t want to miss out on laurels. Dailies definitely burn players out, even dedicated hardcore players. I like the OP’s idea of keeping 14 rotating daily achievements but holding laurels till the end of the week and then rewarding 1 laurel for every 5 achievements up to 7 per week. This essentially is the same as what we have currently but allows some freedom to not play everyday and still get our laurels, without making them easier to get because you’ll still have to do 35 daily achievements taking at least 3 days(2 if you do pvp as well).

Spirit of Nature +Healing Power?

in Ranger

Posted by: wolfram.8291

wolfram.8291

I’ve been running a heal ranger for a long time and have found it most useful in higher level PvE content like 40+ fractals and Arah. In WvW it is much more difficult to get your heals and spirit rezes where they are needed and I find it’s better to go more all around support and less heal. My heal gear was all Magi, and I used a Sigil of Water, so I actually got more heals with Rampage as One because fury would help proc the sigils AoE heal (which by the way IS affected by your healing power). I’m currently transitioning to a more all around support build, but still with a focus in healing.

Here’s my old build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNBMhN6koiqg7sQxCWLDI8DJynRrkeuHjCqEip8rQI1E-jACBIiCiUEgE1Q0GApRFRjtquIasqGYaVER1A-e

Weapons: Warhorn for the 5 skill to blast finish in healing spring for an aoe heal
Sword or axe doesn’t really matter, I think sword hits more so triggers sigil of water more.
Longbow just cause the mystic longbow matches my armor so well =P

Utilities: Pretty obvious when you look at my traits, Sick Em = dps and regen/swiftness
Search and Rescue = rez and regen/switness
Signet of Wild combined with all the regen out heals most dmg.

Elite: I swap between Spirit of Nature and Rampage as One. RaO most of the time, Spirit on PvE Bosses where my team might need more heals or a big rez.

Traits: 15 in skirmshing for fury to proc sigil of water. Companions Might synergises well since I crit pretty often

30 in Nature Magice for Natures voice. This takes advantage of my healing power by basically giving a 5k aoe heal every time i use “Sic ’Em” or “Search and Rescue”.
(I’ll also swap “Search and Rescue” for “Guard” to rush yaks in wvw)
Strength of Spirit just cause Magi gear gives me so much vitality. It’s only a 100 to strength so it’s not that important.
Natures Bounty is a pretty straight forward increase to my heals.

25 in beast mastery to increase my healing power and get that 5% conversion (again only 100 to power but what else am I gona put 5 points in.)
Mighty swap is meh, not a lot of good options here.
Speed Training helps keep my drakes tail swipe blast finisher up. (I often put down healing spring and then swap pets – drakes will usually use tail swipe right away and do an aoe heal in the spring)

Gear: The original concept that led me to this build was to be tanky with Healing Power, Vitality and Signet of the Wild while using with Strength of Spirit and Natures Wrath to make up for power so Magi was the logical choice, plus it has precision as a secondary attribute so more crit chance = more sigil of water proccing. The Strength of Spirit and Natures Wrath thing still results in flimsy damage even with a decent crit rate, but the pet traits kinda fill the gap as long as I swap pets often and follow up a pet swap with a weapon swap to give them fury via Furious Grip and Fortifying Bond.
Runes of Exuberance add to the above traits so that’s that. I think I used Runes of Dwayna before Exuberance came out.
Sigil of Water – Duh. Sigil of Perception – Duh. Sigil of Renewal just cause another sigil of water seemed boringly redundant =P

I hope this helps you. In case you can’t tell my ranger is my main character and support is my favorite role. PM me if you’re interested in the new build I’m working on.

Karma and Luck Consumables

in Suggestions

Posted by: wolfram.8291

wolfram.8291

My biggest gripe with these right now is having to spend so much time double clicking. The way karma consumables used to work made it less annoying because one could save it up and use it all when they had all the karma boosts up. But now, the multipliers do nothing, so I just consume them as soon as I get them. So why have them at all? Why not just make it an automatic deposit like event rewards? Same pretty much goes for the luck consumables. The old system actually made more sense because you could “cash out” when you stood to gain the most. Ideally for me, karma and luck consumables would be affected by multipliers and to address the carpal tunnel aspect, the crafting idea wasn’t bad, but an even better one would be to add a function to consume an entire stack in the right click drop down menu.

Four months ago I made a post in this thread – “searched for ‘search’ and got 0 results”. I thought the message was obvious, but I guess I need to elaborate. I see these forums as a place to search for solutions to problems I’m having in the game, like bugs and griping about precursors. But more than that it’s a place to connect with the community. The search feature is a simple but powerful tool we take for granted. It’s one of those things you don’t miss till it’s gone, and I REALLY miss being able to find a thread about something I’m interested in without having to wade through pages of irrelevant topics. I’d like to voice my opinion, but I can’t find an audience that might care about what I’m saying. I’d like to see feedback on things I’m interested in, but I can’t find that either. As it stands, I use the forums almost exclusively to check patch notes. I only bother looking at other threads if I’m in a good mood, have time to kill, and don’t really care what topic I’m reading about.

T6 Inflation Farming

in Crafting

Posted by: wolfram.8291

wolfram.8291

I started working towards my first legendary about a month ago. I quickly realized the most difficult things for me to get are T6 fine crafting materials. I’m going for howler so the precursor isn’t really an issue. I do plenty of the activities that have a chance to drop precusors and once in awhile I’ll toss some rare/exo horns in the forge. If I don’t have it by the time I have all the gifts I can just buy it. So Back to T6 mats, I’ve farmed the usual places a little, but I don’t enjoy it very much at all so I only do it if I happen to be near a farm spot. Even then I only stick around till my MF food buff wears off. When I do this I’m lucky if I get even one T6 mat (I’ve done this with up to 300+ mf during secrets of southsun, which had great yield but still too boring for me). Pretty much everyone I’ve talked to who has one or more legendary says “do something that makes a lot of gold and just buy them”. So basically CoF farming. There are others, but from what I’ve gathered CoF is the way to go for gold farming. My question is where do the mats come from if everyone just buys them? You can get some from the clover recipe and laurels, but if you don’t want a bunch of clovers lying around that you don’t plan to use and want to save the precious laurels for something else, where do you go? The mats I got while crafting my 77 clovers doesn’t even come close to half of what I need. I guess what I’d like to see is a way to get T6 mats that’s a little less monotonous than farming mobs for drops or farming CoF for gold to buy them. I understand that everything you need to craft a legendary should be relatively difficult to acquire or else they wouldn’t be “legendary”, but the prices right now seem a bit inflated to me. What do you guys think, am I just being cheap? Is there some other way to get the mats I haven’t figured out?

Change Hunter´s shot the way it was...

in Suggestions

Posted by: wolfram.8291

wolfram.8291

Learn how to use it… it gives u great advantages if used right! Why can’t rangers be stealthy… like “hiding in nature…” sort of:) I Think the change is good. We still have vulnerability, but just not on that skill.

Two things…
1. “Learn how to use it.” How is a PvE longbow ranger supposed to benefit from stealth when attacking from long range?
2. Why does stealth have to come at the expense of one of the longbow’s few offensive skills? Why couldn’t they have added a stealth utility skill whenever they get around to adding new skills (by the end of the year, according to the recent blog)?

1. If you get agro and want the agro on your pet so you can max range, use hunters shot. When you want to run by stuff or escape a fight, stealth is nice. It also grants swiftness to your pet so you can use it to get melee pets on targets faster, again without risking drawing agro.

2. Longbows skills were all offensive. Now you have one that can be offensive or defensive depending on how you use it. The one that was removed wasn’t really removed, just consolidated into another skill.

The dmg output hardly changed(still 10 stacks of vul), but now you can combine the Hunter shot with Remorless Grandmaster trait(and Quick Draw) for additional 5vul every 10 seconds. Seems pretty kitten nice.

1. 10 stacks at once (old version of HS) and 10 stacks applied one at a time (new version of RF) are NOT the same thing. Before, we could pop HS then RF, letting all 10 shots from RF get the full 10% damage boost. Now your first shot from RF gets no damage boost, your second gets a 1% damage boost, your third gets a 2% damage boost, etc. The damage output has changed.

2. So you’re going to take Remorseless over Piercing Arrows? Eagle Eye? Spotter? Steady Focus? Which of these traits are you going to dump for 5 stacks of vulnerability every 10 seconds?

1. kozeljko acknowledged that the damage output has changed. The change is negligible.

2. The reason there are so many traits is not so we can all decide on seven that everyone must run at all times. It’s so we have tools to create builds to fit our style.

I’d reply to Orpheal too but Da Sonic already addressed that.

At first I felt this system goes against the ideas this game was built around. One of my favorite things about Guild Wars 1 and 2 is that we can change our attributes/skills/traits as we please. After some thought I realized these world ability points are more like skill points. It seems we can acquire an infinite amount and the WXP it takes to get them hits a cap after only 5 ranks. 1075 points to unlock all upgrades certainly sounds like a lot, but consider how many skill points you’ve acquired with no plans to use. Something like WXP booster will make this number seem even smaller.

An option to disable right click targeting

Disabling right-click to attack/interact is certainly the safest first approach to this issue. There are two problems, though. Anytime you have camera-look and targeting on the same input, you will have conflicting behavior. There isn’t a bug that targets are randomly selected, but rather the game trying to be smart at recognizing clicks versus camera movement. Even when you think you’re perfectly clicking on a target, most of the time you’re also moving the camera a tiny, tiny bit. There is a small threshold that determines whether your tiny movement should actually be a target selection. Lowering this threshold will reduce the chances of this happening, but is one of those numbers where we need to sit on it for a while to see if it ‘feels right’. The problem could also be solved by completely separating the different functionality of selection, auto-attacking, and camera movement. However, completely splitting those is not something we’re prepared to work on at the moment as it is a much broader-reaching change. I hope this helps clear up what’s happening and what steps we’ll take to change it. Thank you again for all the feedback!

Thank you for responding to this thread Evan. Hopefully this means we’ll actually see this option soon. Could you clarify what you mean by “There are two problems (with an option do disable right click targeting)”. Those of us posting here never want to use right click to do anything besides manipulate our camera angle. Making this a toggle option would mean we’d have no problem and people who already have no problem still have no problem. It’s a win win. If an attempt to address this is made by changing the threshold for when a right click is changed from targeting to not targeting, we will all see it as spite or even disrespect at players’ ability to make great suggestions. This isn’t a case of disgruntled farmers complaining about loot and asking for more stuff. We are players who’s gaming experience is suffering from a feature with effects that draw parallels to a legitimate bug. Again I’m really happy you posted because that means someone is actually looking at this. I don’t see any other option for this though. Completely removing right click target hurts those who use it, and changing the target threshold does nothing for the people who don’t want it at all.

I will often start attacking random things or using resource nodes or talking to NPC’s just by my moving my camera.

This is without a doubt the best way to fix this problem. I don’t know how hard it is to do, but it would save me a lot of frustration. Lol at geotherma’s arguments here. Priority? How important was the fix on how an NPC holds a chicken? I won’t argue with the idea that some people have no problem with this, but by her own admission she never uses right click to target or attack or interact with anything. What if tab cycled through allies and resource nodes and brought up dialog boxes and made you start mining while you were getting hammered by a dozen enemies? Would that be a priority fix? Nah, let’s fix the way NPC’s hold chickens.
