I don’t know about non-peak hours but during prime time it is close to instant q’s
Oo thank you OP :-) what team are you in? I’m not sure where we’ve bumped into each other. Going to be focussing on necro for a few weeks to see how it works out so the ranger will be sleeping for a while :-P
I went from ranger to necro before necro got a little love a few weeks ago, I JUST past games played with my necro at 45% compared to my ranger’s 43%(597 tourny games played) and I don’t think I will be going back to ranger.
I do miss having a dueling class, but it’s really nice being able to pressure more then one target at a time
We lost a lot of players yesterday :/
This is not a counter. First answer and it had to be ignorant. Do you people even read?
I’m not complaining because there’s a counter, I’m complaining because it is automatic, without requiring skill from part of the player.
Counter is when a Ranger shoots 100 arrows at your direction and you BLOCK them.
Counter is when a Warrior charges and you ROLL OVER.
Counter can’t and shouldn’t be something that COUNTERS an attack automatically.
First answer also said “passive or reactive shouldn’t matter” do YOU read?
ALSO: a passive counters like that usually have 90second internal CDs.
Yea dude. Everything has a counter…
Passive or reactive it doesn’t matter…
Are you seriously complaining about that?
Quickness is essential to this game’s survival as an esport.
GW2 needs MORE cooldowns like quickness, not less.
Cooldowns that force a reaction or punish a mistake are CRUCIAL for a competitive video game. Players must have tools that they can use to punish sloppy or slow enemy players.
Reaction time, APM, and decision making under pressure are 3 skills that quickness rewards, and slow/bunker play does not. Those are the types of skills that you MUST reward if you want to create a successful esport.
You cannot balance for 3% of your playerbase when the mechanics ruin the game for the other 97% of players, this is fact. No successful game does this. The casuals can’t survive without the professionals, but the reverse is also true, the professionals can’t survive without the casuals.
Starcraft?
Bloodline champions?
Dota?
@sezu
I was trying to say that comps that design their way around two bunker teams have been doing really well.
We ran one on wed and only lost one round.
I would agree with this option If I didn’t know about slam timing.
This is due to the players not resetting properly back to spawn at the end of a countdown timer. I have had it happen and have seen it happen to teammates.
Most likely He was bugged rather then an exploit.
@ nurt
It’s the “you must bring a bunker” mentality that is making bunker bust comps so good.
I found this thread, so I’m trying to avoid creating a new thread about team compositions.
So what are some “general role” compositions. So far I’ve really only heard of the “bunker” and “roamer”. What are some other roles that go with a team?
Which combinations of them seem work well (not looking for the “perfect team”)?
Which roles are the roles that you should probably have, or else you are going to have a rough time?
I do solo queue tournaments the majority of my time spent playing. I want to be able to ask my team what builds they are running, then I can choose a toon to switch to to best help the team.
we almost exclusivly run premades in [meth] or at least have like 4 groups of 3-4 each (based on people wanting to play with friends) and we use roles to generalize the “nitch” for a class slot but it seems like you can pretty much win with anything given the right players.
Bunker, ganker, roamer, burst, condi, control, and deny are all terms we use to identify a toons role.
It also doesn’t seem like a traditional role system, we have the most success"stacking" a mix of two roles and that’s it. Example burst burst control control + flex= burst control comp, like warrior thief engi necro or even thief thief engi engi (burst control with this is insane).
I run [METH] and we have about 10 or so hardcore and about 30 normal and about 10 casuals.
I would say that most of the hardcore players are satisfied with the current state KNOWING that the ranking system will be implemented eventually. Until then we have fun running comp strats and fun runs in Tpvp.
Ignoring the fact that there is no ETA on custom arenas and it may well be a year until we see them, creating a 3rd party league is difficult without ArenaNet making information regarding custom arenas available via a REST API.
For example, I can’t create a website for my league that shows statistics about matches because that data is not available.
You would have to manually record wins and losses to build rankings, which is too much effort and prone to error. For very small leagues, I guess it could work.
Console leagues all use win recording, it wouldn’t be hard to do it with gw2
When the private servers go up it will work fine.
It would work Just like the way console leagues are ran I assume.
I like it.
@xloz: nope, Thief/Guardian/Mesmer is actually the people I meet in tPvP because, you know, that’s not only you playing that mode.
The fact that you can win with these classes means nothing. Running these professions put you in disadvantage compared to people who is running the holy tPvP trinity. Of course if you are very skilled with other professions and enemies are newbie you are going to win, but this doesn’t mean that you have more difficulties facing with them when the skill is the same.
Players always ran build which make winning easier and now, the high presence of G/M/T means that they are the key for an easier win, not sure, but easier, and it shouldn’t be like this in a balanced environment.
How easy a class is to play isn’t balance. Mmo players always confuse class balance with ease of use.
@xloz:
I don’t care about your wins and I think none cares.
The class balancing isn’t about how much someone wins with a specific class. The fact that in almost every tPvP team there is at least a Mesmer, a Thief and a Guardian says much about balancing, your wins don’t.
The wins show that it is possible for comps to win running those classes- now in theory I could have played 5000 matches and got only 1st round pug wins so I guess you will have to take my word on it.
And also, I HEAR people saying “pvp teams bring class x this and never y that blah blah blah” and it is mostly bullkitten. I can say that every class is represented close to equal in tourney mode- except for maybee ranger and even then when you run into them it’s 2ranger comps a lot so number wise it’s about the same. I would say the stereo type is all the 2mesmer/2gardian teams.
The thief/guardian/Mesmer is usually what you hear people ask for in the mists so that might be a reason why you see them mentioned so much.
@sorrow
Not all necros, most necros don’t know how to play.
And yes, if the class balance is determined by 5v5 tourneys then… Well you DO need to play tourneys to understand class balance.
And lol @ tpvp Is Spvp with less people.
Nasty nasty nasty-necro
Wo wo wo wo wo- warrior
Xloz-ranger
Everyone forum qq’s about all these classes and I have at least 150twins with each of them so it’s either I have the most amazing group of 4 carry teammates ever- or I understand the role of each class and how to utilize it properly.
This thread is bunk.
Does anyone in here actually tournament? or do they just get to rank 10 in Spvp and come on the forums to tell you how the game balance works…?
P.S.- the necros in this thread don’t know what they are talking about- I can’t wait for the buff to necros because of all the QQ, I will be so broken OP it isn’t funny. L2 DS.
I remember the good old’ days before competitive rankings.
It Wasn’t even that lOng ago that to play in a “league” or tournament setting you had to go outside the community anyway.
Console gamers still have to use this system anyway so NBD I guess.
I’m a part of a cross server tpvp only guild. I rep the tag just to show all the other team our tag- AND it has enough people online that I never have to PUG. That’s enough for me.
Thanks for turning this into an actual discussion guys. It gives me hope for this forum community yet.
Anyone else getting tired of:
Remove retaliation from the game
Remove quickness
Nerf burst
Increase health pools
Nerf burst
Nerf burst
Why can’t I do everything, I was promised I could do anything I wanted so why can’t I do EVERYTHING.
What happend to just enjoying a game for what it is? I agree with slow changes over a long period of time but is seems like most people who come on forums these days really just want a game tailored for them.
Nerf forum qq Plz.
well the solution has largely to do with your build… but usually as soon as a thief goes stealth I cast everything I have on myself.
while stunned/immobile FG charge and worm blink still works
while just stunned we have a lot of spectral skill that break stun, some even auto cast when we hit a certain health…
It is hard to direct you on how do do something without watching the fight and not every fight is predictable.
also some thieves are just kitten
and some are giant trolls and will run away as soon as you get a foothold.
edit: maybe Anet can let us have our personal color schemed-gear when they implement a spectator mode. In the spectator mode, the teams can be easily just painted whatever color the interface wants.
+1
HOLY CRAP I like that idea.
spectator and replay mode would be good enough for me to show off my sweet rainbow scheme armor.
(edited by xloz.6280)
I should also add that you are damaging the other player the whole time
1) Necro does NOT have blink and stun breaks don’t remove immobilize
2) I have 2500 toughness, which is 360 toughness short of whats maximally possible. The damage and Death Shroudh traits I’d have to sacrifice for that last 360 toughnes aren’t woth it.
3) Necros have Death Shroud fear, Staff fear, flesh golem knockback and warhorn daze. Only Death Shroud fear is instant and lasts merely a second, if not broken by the quickness user, lost in a blind or due to stability and you need to have 25% life force to shift into Death Shroud at all. In other words that rarely work
4) wrong again. Lich Form has a cast time and doesn’t add toughness, Plague form is instant but both aren’t available frequently enough with their 3 minute cooldown. Which leaves Death Shroud, that doesn’t increase mitigation but rather adds another life bar IF you have it availableIf stated all of the above already, please read what I wrote before replying hastely like you did so far…
I guess we have ANOTHER necro that doesn’t know how to use his class.
markfear and ds fear last for only a second but interrupts AND puts the skill on CD- it also puts distance between the attacker and the necro, lucky for the necro he has a mark that chills his return back.
what else can you do for his journey back?
1)f1+3+f1+~ and use that a scepter or warhorn cripple or dagger dark pact or warhorn daze or focus chill-(chill is recommended because we want that 100b on as long of a cd as possible ;>)
2)Necrotic Traversal is a blink (notice how the good necros have worms off to the side instead of on the node…)
3)fear+ Rigor Mortis (Bone Fiend active)
4)fear+ Signet of Spite
5)fear+flesh golem Charge
you don’t even have to counter react if you don’t want to… Arena Net was kind enough to add chill to every blind when traited so… cough* plague form cough* Plague of Darkness cough
Yes some things require you to see it coming, some things are reactive and I cant write all the different counters to every battle situation for every class combo but what I CAN do is show you that you’re wrong in assuming that necro cant deal with quickness. I hardly EVER die in a 1v1 and even less to thiefs/warriors.. and I spec support condi in tpvp.
Even as I am writing this I am still thinking of all the different counters to quickness that a necro has and I’m not about to write a “how to necro” guide in response to another forum kiddie so I will just stop here.
Quickness is just too powerful. 100% increase in DPS is too much.
PvP currently boils down to avoiding and when to use quickness and above all decides the outcome of PvP.Let me get this straight. Because all you kitten spec “Glass Cannon” you want to nerf Quickness?
Spec more defensive build which any PVP er knows you have to spec for PVP NOT PVE (Glass Cannon).
DONT ruin the game because you havent learned how to counter classes. Practice. OR go back to WOW.
Those are quite big assumptions you are making. I don’t have a glass cannon build and I’m not spending much time on the forums either.
Its just like Yukishiro.8792 said above, this all or nothing, split second gameplay is what I’d expect from a firstpersonshooter not an MMO. The strategic meta game gets destroyed by Quickness, which is what makes MMO PvP more compelling than fps-gameplay.
Its not like I mind fps-gameplay but I’d play an fps if I wanted to fight other players in such a shortlived fashion. I expect longer more strategic fights out of an MMO.
If there would be tanky skills as powerful as quickness and similarly generous handed out to professions, for example those without an quickness utility skill… nah… would make it even worse.
Offense scales way better than defense. Even as a Necromancer, where vitality and toughness counts twice, I get downed in seconds by Quickness-burst-builds.
Considering that 30k HP is max as a Necromancer and Hundred Blades being able to hit for 18k, its not really surprising.
This scaling problem just becomes more apparent by builds based around Quickness and critical hits.
It would be too kind, if you actually would reply to my case instead of being polemic
Dude, if you are a necro AND getting Hit by HB FOR 18k- you have problems.
1) necro has blink and SEVERAL stun breaks
2) toughness should still be ~2200 even glassy
3) you have SEVERAL forms of counter cc
4) you have 3 forms of transformation damage mitigation in ADDITION to all this.
Your problems are not quickness…
I for one, love the downed state mechanic.
It can’t be really appreciated until your in an even tpvp match with two premades- so good.
Sure some of the class balance IN downed positions could use a little attention.
I’m sure that when a ranking system is implemented that will help things as well- you see more value of the DS/revive with tougher opponents.
Quickness is awesome.
I play necro and I don’t think quickness is op at all. I do think that the thief’s punishment isnt harsh enough but at the same time thiefs are SO SQUISH that it’s nbd.
I say – spend less time on the forums qqing and spend more time getting better at the game.
Fix necro bugs so that they are no longer UP.
Buggy, but not UP.
Press h and screenshot your stats.
People who complain that burst takes no skill are the same people who don’t take stunbreaks and CC to pvp…
Spike plays a role in a team comp- and currently thief and warrior make excellent gankers because of it but taking that away from them would hurt pvp synergy more then help it.
^ you don’t have to reroll a counter, you just need ONE person out of 5 that CAN deal with a guardian. Despell is as important as any cc/stun break/movement ability in pvp- period.
A Guardian is not there to counter a single class, nor should a single class be there solely to counter Guardians.
And what also is obvious is that, even if you can kill a Guardian does not mean you dealt with him; if you are capable of killing him in a 1v1 then you are most likely a Ranger/Engineer meaning you will also be Ranged. What you must understand is that although you may kill him, he has done his job of staying on the node for as long as possible while you are outside not neutralizing the point. If this was a premade, by the time the Guardian downs another will come to back him up and you will lose. If not, it doesn’t matter, the Guardian will revive and come back to take back the node. You can’t defend that node unless you’re on top of it with the Guardian which will put you in a disadvantage as a Ranged; you will lose that point, and maybe would’ve saved point ticks of 10 seconds with all the effort.
Mesmer shatter/engi/condi-ranger/ and marks necro should be able to burn 90% of the bunker guardians out there… That’s a lot of classes that can shut down one class- and you can just as easily use a bunker necro/engi/warrior that does the same thing any guardian can do. Sure guardians can do it easier but anyone who has played any real tournament pm vs pm knows exactly what I’m talking about.
I thikn Xloz doesn’t know that regardless of destroying clones or not, you should get ready to receive a kitten load of conditions on you in the blink of an eye on top of shatter burst
I don’t have a problem with mesmers, and gs/shatter is burst just like any other burst-
Also You can destroy during animation and U put his shatter on cd
Also go play a Mesmer/ why do you think most utility classes (necro/ranger/engi) with kittenloads of control don’t complain as much about mesmers? People don’t realize that even though the appear fast the mesmer is pretty slow compaired to other professions.
^ you don’t have to reroll a counter, you just need ONE person out of 5 that CAN deal with a guardian. Despell is as important as any cc/stun break/movement ability in pvp- period.
Bring less single target into your tourny group- gs warriors/mark necro/flame engi/and mirror Mesmer are all minion counters
100 Blades + someone who causes knockdown or other interrupt skills.
it is impossible to win.
I don’t think it’s impossible:
Ranger- so much dodge/evade it is almost impossible to lose to hb cc-
*warrior refect will counter that tho
Thief- so much invis and teleport utility it’s your fault if u get caught
Necro- chill spam and I hope u brought a worm
Mesmer- your fault if u get caught, this one is a given
Ele- mist/immune
I don’t think engi- guardian and warrior need examples- equal of not more cc
With a high of a latency I might go with Shortbow Ranger. Can stack up bleeds rather quickly, and you have your pet to help you out with things. Your auto-attack will always fire, so you don’t have to worry about lag so much there.
Requires positioning and most of his damage mitigation is well timed dodge/evade &cc usage so SB ranger might be a bad choice.
I think engi might be the best bet given he is the “toughest” natively and has a couple of builds that are spam based.
Bring a mark/well necro and start laughing at how useless guardians become.
I guess having the hard counter to bunker guardians as the most underrepresented class makes people think that G are OP.
@xloz necros can’t even hurt themselves if they wanted to lol
A condi+well necro can swing a team fight- lucky for a lot of people most necros are BAD and can just be ignored.
I play ranger/necro/warrior/Mesmer Competitive in Tpvp and Necro is underrated as hell.
xloz-ranger
Nasty nasty nasty-necro
Wo wo wo wo-warrior
no skill required x- Mesmer
Or..the opposing team go ‘Lets hit the GS warrior first, he’ll go down super easy’.
Of all the targets to pick why wouldn’t you go after the gw warrior.
Mesmer- I’m not spending 5 minutes chasing someone
Engineer- amazing kiting running through mines not worth it first.
Necro – Need to go through 2 health bars and a slew of conditions
Guardian – enough said.
Thief – again…it’s not happening with stealth and shadowstep etc..
Elementalist – Correctly specced amazing escape abilities/mist form, not worth it first
Ranger – maybe…but they’re not really a threat. So warrior becomes first target. He can’t escape, he has no ranged damage, he has low toughness if he’s HB spec, if he hasn’t hit got stability as his 3rd slot he’s falling over to everything. If he has so what, it means he has no stun breaker.
This is where the GS warrior is so weak. This is why no one runs warriors in decent tpvp teams.
I think you need to work on your target logic.
I do agree that Warriors are on the list of first targets on a clash just to shutdown single cc and Hb burst but rangers and necros are people u want to drop fast in a team fight.
