A couple of ideas.

I have been back playing GW2 for a couple of months now and I’m so excited to see the new expansion and having more people coming back in to the game. I am amazed at how much they’ve done since I was gone, it is incredible but I think my experience coming back could have been improved and even if nothing comes of this post I think it is healthy to put a flag in there places were there aren’t any just so everyone can see it, if necessary. I know some of them might be minor and/or tedious.

- In SPvP have an option to toggle friendly nameplates to show even when not hovering of having the player targeted.
The idea here is to encourage people to pay attention to more aspects of the game in PvP and somewhat deepen the understanding of working together as a team. It isn’t all about damage. Players who go in with the intent of healing can’t see which team mate needs loving as much as a DPS can see who needs to die. I know their health is shown on the UI, I don’t feel as immersed when spending so much time looking over at it. Maybe a little pedantic. At the moment you can only find nameplates above the heads of allies by hovering or targeting them, you can only really look at one friendly target at a time.

- Pathing for teleports.
There are places in PvP battlegrounds on necromancer where you can put a Flesh Wurm (or blink on thief/ele) where you can’t do so on the opposite side. I feel like this gives an advantage to people put on one side. For example, you can tele on the bridge on only one side at the centre of Legacy of Foefire. It might be easier to just stop the teleporting all together at the locations where one side has more accessibility. I do feel like the pathing has changed, before I left I’m sure the wurm worked a lot more often that it does now, most of the time I just don’t move and my pet goes on CD.

On a side note, the pulls from guardians often leave me trapped in walls and the /stuck doesn’t work as I take Plague Signet and the timer is cancelled if I take damage from conditions I get it seems.

- Make Nightfury give skins to all armour weights.
Right now if you play Mesmer, Necro and Ele you can just pay 1k and get it on all 3 chars but unlike other armour skins, you would need to buy it 3 times to get the skin for light, medium and heavy armour despite it looking the exact same for each. I know some people will have done the latter already but they surely could be reimbursed with the extra Nightfurys that they had bought. I’m sure there are also other skins with this problem.

- Class specific ranking (SPvP)
I like playing more than one class in PvP, to me it feels odd that if I’m 1400 on a necromancer and play my first game on a thief, I’m at the same rating as if I’m on my necromancer. I feel bad because I know I have to nuke my rating to learn (unranked won’t be sufficient for practicing beyond a certain level even if that level is beyond 1400) but players who are teamed with me will have no choice but to lose a match while I’m still finding my feet, it is unfair on them, It is somewhat forced by the achievement for legendary backpiece too. I feel like a fix would be to share the rating across classes, all your thieves will have the same rating as all your other thieves and all necromancers will have the same rating as all other necromancers etc.. This will encourage more people to play multiple classes and will help avoid the games which are ‘thrown prematch’ such as teams in solo que with double support ele or two thieves as more people will play more classes.

As for picking a class before the match starts, you should be able to access an interface where you can change from to current character to any character with a rating in the same bracket (Gold 3, Plat 1, Plat 2 etc.) as the current character or lower. This will stop people queueing in diamond and hopping on to a legendary ranked player, manipulating the system.

It will be interesting to also hear your thoughts on these. I’ve not spoken to many people about many of the problems so let me know if I’m expecting too much, thanks.

Long story short, if you’re condi using Rabid Amulet or Carrion Amulet, your build will not beat them (a good one at least), just go somewhere else.

It isn’t like fighting other classes whist using a viable build (Condi Reaper) where you need to counter certain abilities and ranged them when this happens… Playing against an Elementalist using Diamond Skin you’d need to make changes to your build if you’re to beat them.

Need PvP advice for fighting Tempests.

In PvP you must have MASSIVE balls to run as Power because it just isn’t nearly as good for teams as Condition builds. Instead of taking power Necromacers people would just rather take a Warrior.

1 thing I will say though is you need to be able to stay on your target with dagger so get a lot of chill and you will most probably need spectral grasp.

I use it all the time just out of pure stubbornness. It is terrible and should actually be a utility skill and not a healing spell. What it would be is “Siphon x amount of health each time you hit a foe” with a 1 sec ICD…

I can’t spectate, choose teams and there seems to be no limit on the amount of players being let in.

I joined the 1v1 server and is was a big free-for-all
So I then joined an 8 vs 8 match or a normal sPvP server and there was 9 on one of the teams.

Would this build work?

If you’re not going to take Close to Death and Axe Mastery I would use dagger rather than axe as a high damage weapon. Also I’d use Focus rather than Warhorn because you can use Focus #4 and make it bounce between you and a for to give you healing and give them ~12 stacks of vulnerability and quite a lot of life force.

I also think you would be better with Shrouded Removal rather than Spiteful Vigor. If you get feared (for example by a thief) they will most likely fear you for 3 seconds and it’ll be the only condition on you, you can just pop in DS and break it.

Personally I just use the braindead meta build because #yolo.

Asides from the heal when hit rather than life leech like “Vampirism” would suggest..

I know it grants 3 stacks of might but it doesn’t give you 3 stacks when you are using the trait ‘Signet Mastery’ but its cooldown is reduced by it.

Is this as intended or a bug?

Just managed to pick myself up off the floor after laughing at this joke of a signet.

25 skill points for what?!?! New players are going to pick up this skill thinking it is a good skill but WHAT THE HELL HITS FOR 300? Protection is better… Is we get 100 blades to the face… we heal for about 600 out of the 10k, WHAT A DIFFERENCE.

Anyone using this signet will get tunneled because that Necromancer will be down a condition removal and only heal 4k (lol)

The use effect on the signet isn’t even unblockable (from what I’ve read) plus vs thief or guardian you’ll have a hard time landing it due to dodges and Aegis.

If they removed the heal it wouldn’t be missed. as long as they reimbursed our 25 skill points. There is not a place in Guild Wars 2 where this is useful, the kind of move I would expect from BLIZZARD

If you take healing in DS trait in the Blood line, I think you can wait till you’re really low, pop Life Transfer and it will heal you. I’m not 100% on that but try it… could be a free 3.5k heal for you

Power build is good if you are good at dodging and have good capabilities. You could go for a condition build but if will be very hard for you to kill inanimate objects as you can’t bleed or poison them.

Power build is 30, 10, 0, 0, 30.
Axe/Focus + Dagger/Dagger (Or staff if you feel like it)
I use Well of Suffering, Signet of Spite and Blood is Power

This is how I would approach single target in PvE
1. Use blood is power without target to avoid self-bleeding
2. Open with Focus #4 as you approach the target (1200 range while traited)
3. Drop Well of Suffering
4. Axe #2
5. Enter Death Shroud

Might not be the best rotation but it’ll do for leveling and it gets me through everything I need to do in PvE.

That is a common set up for Terror builds that you are using. I think more commonly in condition builds is 30 is curses for the +33% duration on scepter skills, the trait allows you to go over 100% condition duration cap with them too. I use 30, 30, 0, 10, 0 in WvW solo roaming but that is only because there are very minimal people in WvW who are good at 1v1 fights.

I’ve not really given Terror builds a chance in PvE but if it works for you go for it, I’m not sure if it is the best way to go there though.

Whats ur basis of comparison? Whats “good” damage? OP spells like plague sig and corrupt boon compared to what? When did I say I don’t run stun-breakers?

Imagine you spend a few seconds getting a target to maybe 15-20 bleed stacks and torment and poison and he sends them all to you on top of the bleeds he already gave you… Plague signet

Also if a player is running a build with a lot of might for example and they pop some CDs and get a good amount. Corrupt Boon takes them ALL!

I assumed you didn’t run Stun-Breakers when you were saying you get locked out of casting a spells. Lol dodge and Stun-Breakers are your friend.

What inspired this thread if you don’t mine me asking? PvE, WvW or SPvP/TPvP?

In the SPvP 1v1 server there isn’t anything that I think is OP really. Not that I win often but I put that down to me being less experienced that rank 50 players.

The easiest I’d say is Engineers, Warriors and Power Necromancers.

Edit: Last time I saw an ele with moa bird was when people were still saying “trolololol” lol (a long time ago).

In PvP I feel that Necromancers are in a very good place and do need the upcoming changes, you are all over-exaggerating.

A few changes/fixes I would like to see though is:

Fear becoming a ‘Control Effect’ like stuns so it is not effected by condition removal as it is already effected by stun-breakers.

Dark Path should be made more reliable and possibly have the cast time decreased.

We should be able to dismiss minions without having then put on cooldown.

A stun-break on a corruption spell.

Look at our blood trait line. I’ve never seen anyone more than 10 deep in it, even after the so call ‘buff’.

More access to terror and no access to fire… (Dhuumfire I’m looking at you)

As for power builds they need something more substantial as far as defense is concerned. Watching a Power Necromancer go toe-to-toe with any other melee class in PvP is just embarrassing.

To be honest I think we are trying to be pushed into hybrid builds with Dhuumfire being in a power/crit damage trait line, Elementalist’s new “Diamond Skin” trait, engineers traits. Also the blood trait line they have recently looked at seems to be only really paired well with power builds rather than condition.

Anywho please flame below but I feel we need a little TLC and maybe a little nerf too.

Death Magic
On the defensive side, the Blood and Soul Reaping necros are starting to feel pretty good. The Death line on the other hand is too focused on minions. From Reanimator, which we have heard over and over feels bad as a minor trait, to the fact that 1/3 of the remaining traits are minion traits, to finally the fact that both grandmaster traits are minion traits.

I PvP most of the time when I’m on, I have never seen a successful build that wasn’t 30, 20, 0, 0, 20 or 30, 10, 0, 0, 30. I run 0, 30, 20, 0, 20 out of pure stubbornness just because I don’t want to go 30 deep in power just for Dhuumfire.

Earth on Scepter.

I like using two daggers, one to stack 25 Corruption, and one to switch to bursting (which is +6%, not +6). Makes good times.

I used Sigil of Bursting on my Scepter and my damage went from 90 – 93, that isn’t 6% but it was a little increase I guess.

I use Terror build always in sPvP and the best way I found for me to use it is that way, if an opponent doesn’t have much access to Stability I’ll swap out Corrupt Boon for Spectral Walk. Any who it is pretty much self-explanatory

If someone disconnects, a player from the opposite team should be moved to spectate till another player returns, 5 vs 5 becomes 4 vs 4. I don’t think anyone can complain at that.

Risk vs. reward wells

There is a trait that freezes players when blinded, so you can use the well that blinds (which when traited will also freeze) then pop the other wells on top of them.

This doesn’t help the whole risk vs reward, just that what you’re describing pretty much already exists if you trait right.

I use this for solo roaming PvE and it is just raw damage. it is a glass cannon build so you have close to no defense but you will hit like a truck. Make sure you use auto in DS or dagger, Axe auto attack isn’t very good.

Here is a list of stun-breakers that also break fears;
- Spectral Walk
- Spectral Armor
- Well of Power
- Necrotic Travel
- Plague Signet

And if you do PvP without stun-breakers you can expect to never really peak above average.

staff 2 is a heal and has 3 bleeds! and staff 4 removes conditions off allies and is a blast finisher… That means spectral wall (which is a combo field) with staff 4 = AoE chaos armor!

I believe a dark combo field and staff 4 is AoE retaliation too.

Plus we have epidemic.

I was in sPvP and I don’t really die easily to anyone even though I’m only rank 27. I came across a full stun build warrior the other day and I have a stun-break with flesh worm.

After my stun break was gone and my Fears was on CD I couldn’t do ANYTHING. His healing signet was healing him for more than my bleeds, as little as I could put on him, we’re doing. and he wasn’t even a high rank warrior!

Not that this makes me want to rage quit or anything I just think stun should be a condition like fear and immobilize.

If someone DCs you could move a player on the opposite team to spectate his own team till the other player returns, 5v5 will turn into 4v4 till the other player returns.

Of course the player forced into spectating will have to receive some sort of reward.

Probably the most fair way of sorting it out.

Sound more like a Mesmer kind of spell to me, Plus a knock back is another interrupt so I don’t think that would be fair on other classes to have two interrupts in downed state rather than one.

This is one of the reason I play a Power Necromancer now. I put out similar damage but I can take down Gates and Trebuche’s is sPvP. Conditions do need more thought in this sense Like you could deteriorate instead of bleed on inanimate objects.

I’m not sure which one is OP but I think it’s the condition build in which I think you need to take Dhuumfire and the standard condition build, using scepter/dagger and staff.

To be honest I don’t find Necromancers OP at all I just don’t think people are used to the damage we can put out now but saying that out AoE damage is incredibly high.

Since you stopped playing also we had the grandmaster trait ‘Axe Mastery’ moved down from grandmaster so now we can take ‘Axe Mastery’ and the one where we do more damage depending on how much health we have left.

Overall I wouldn’t say we’re OP but we are are doing very well in comparison to all other professions. with our wells, Life transfer, Tainted Shackles, Staff spells and Epidemic our AoE damage is somewhat devastating to any swarm of players.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, caps lock, q, e, r, s for my action bar
w = forward
a = strafe left
s = elite skill
d = strafe right
I can click my mouse wheel sideways so I have that for f1 and f2 then I have a shift mod thingy on my mouse so shift + mouse wheel to the side is f3 and f4. Mouse button 4 is dodge. The mouse is Roccat kone +.

shift + a = target next target
shift + s = swap weapons.

In pve, i suggest to just maximize your power, precision, and some soul reaping for traits, and using axe + dagger/staff for aoe purposes. you can complete hearts fastest by rounding up a couple enemies and aoe’ing them down to death using any skills you can get that help get life force back quicker it seems like the developers REALLY want you to use lifeforce for everything.

In s/tpvp it seems like the minion master build is one of the top 5 right now in the current meta, so im sticking with that right now although it pretty much requires no skill and just face-rolls pretty much anyone you face.

If i can find the spvp build im using in the forums again ill link it here. have fun! necro is an easy class to play, but hard to master.

I agree with him for the PvE part except I’d recommend going Axe/Focus and Staff. The dagger gives an AoE bleed ability but you’d be pretty much a power build so it wont be great for you, Dagger skill #4 transfers 3 conditions from you to an enemy which is nice but again it’s better for condition builds. You can use staff #4 to remove your conditions or consume conditions (healing spell)

The focus #4 1 vs 1 can stack 12 Vulnerability on the opponent, along side Well of Suffering, this can get your enemy to 20+ stacks easily and that will maximize your damage with Axe #2. Burst DPS is very good for PvE world roaming and leveling.

We need a lot of buffs. The thing is that they aren’t for damage, it’s a matter of sustainability. We should have a higher than average sustainability in exchange for our very below average mobility. Instead we have both sustain and mobility as subpar. The buff that broke Necro in sPvP was on guess what? Damage.

I have no problem with any part of playing Necromancer. I can get away as and when I need to as I’ve put spells in my build that allow me to do so.

And what do we need to sustain? If you are talking about defense we have far too much of it for a light armor profession. I’m a glass cannon and more often than not I don’t die in sPvP matches but when I do it’s my own fault for not having enough defense.

I don’t think the problem is with Necromancers, take that how you will.

I use a power based build for sPvP but I’ll talk through a bit of what I know about Condition Necromancers

for weapons use Scepter/Dagger then Staff. That seems to be the standard set up as far as weapons are concerned for Condition Necromancers.

For a healing spell I’d probably go with consume condition (for consuming conditions lol)

As for utility spells…
Epidemic is very good against multiple targets
Corrupt Boon converts boons on enemies to conditions, Stability converts to Fear which is really handy.
Signet of Spite (I think is the right one) gives passive power but when you use it, it puts a load of conditions on the enemy and I think freeze is in there also!
Blood is Power put two bleeds on an opponent that last a very long time but also two bleeds on you (which can be got rid of countless ways like staff #4 for example) and gives you 10 stacks of might.
There is another signet that I can’t remember the name of that takes conditions off allies and puts them onto you as a passive. the use ability on the signet sends all the conditions on you to your opponent… such a beast spell.

For an Elite spell, Plague is nice for condition builds with being able to spam AoE bleeds and blinds.

I can’t remember much into traits and I’ve not looked at them since the update 2 months ago as I’ve been away, there are some obvious traits that you need like the one that makes conditions from the scepter last longer. and the one that makes bleeds last 33% longer, I think it’s 33%.

I know my knowledge of Condition builds is very vague and very limited and maybe in some places outdated but I hope it helped you out a little bit.

I’m ok with 0% LF and I honestly do not even see it as a problem and I’m traited 30 points into Soul Reaping… I don’t open with any spells from Death Shroud and if you’re opening with Fear, you should reconsider your PvP opening rotation.

After using 2 spells I’m up to a decent amount of Life Force and I never use all of it while I’m not being attacked. If you’re wanting this 10% starting LF for defensive purposes and you can get the 10% LF before having the need to go defensive then just alter your build.

We are such a powerful and underrated profession, we don’t need any buffs.

If you’ve just started Necromancer and are picking flaws because you previously played a face-roll profession. then you’ll be long gone from Necromancer before we get any more unnecessary buffs.

Please help a new Necromancer!

The only build for dungeons that you should be using is Zerker. d/d and axe/focus.

I was in sPvP the other day (the one with the under water base) and a Mesmer polymorphed me into a Moa Bird so like the straight up baller that I am. I jumped into the water to see if the effect would ware off and it did! but I didn’t have access to any of my utility skills.

I don’t know if it can be recreated.
