I agree with all points except the “gear grind”. Ascended armor, being much tougher to get than Exotic, needs to remain. Just allow all slots to be acquired through all means, rather than restricting back pieces to fractals, for example.

Very high level, you can find our over-all plans for 2013 here:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-on-guild-wars-2-in-the-months-ahead/

We’ll put out an updated Gw2 in 2013 blog post in mid/late July that summarizes where we’re going in the second half of the year, and goes into greater details and specifics on systems we’ve talked high level about so far.

I swear that link is always on your clipboard.

Just do like I did and give GW2 their own shot at RNG to keep you as a player. Flip 10 quarters (generous I know) and if nine of them land on heads or tails whichever you choose then stay. If not say adios. Pretty easy really.

I love this.

For the expansion though, I’d love to see more of Tyria open up. Also another race or class would be cool.

I do NOT want a raise in level cap. That will ruin so many things… it hurts just to think about it.

Dragon Bash on June 11th Update!

Ok, so first I want to voice that this LOOKS AWESOME.

However, I’m also somewhat worried…

It states that the special Dragon Helmet “is only available to players who attend an entire fireworks show in lion’s arch, which occurs every two hours during the in-game evening from June 14 to June 17.”

Since BWE1, I’ve suffered through disconnects every 20-40 minutes. It’s due to my ISP packet throttling me, but I won’t be able to fix the problem for several more months. Is there any chance for us flaky folk to get the helm? Or will I have to tell a friend to log in my account for the duration of the show?

Kinda reminds me of the first few months of Fractals, except now it’s a limited time.

Thanks in advance.

The way that it’s worded, I highly doubt that the show LASTS for two hours. That’s probably just the timer.

I didn’t mess with the F&F skins because they looked like variants of CoF skins, and I wasn’t crazy about the SS skins (don’t get me wrong, both were awesome, but not worth the potential HOURS of grinding), but this update is going to kill me. That green axe. So awesome.

Since real life won’t let me put in the hours of RNG grinding, and bills won’t let me throw in the dough alternative, I probably won’t have a chance at these awesome new skins.

Gear is skin-based in GW2. I wish there was a for-sure way to get them. Even if it’s grinding something, as long as the results are certain.

I’ll keep buying stuff, just let me buy it! I don’t like the lottery.

As with most video games, you will need to consult a third party source if you don’t want to figure out everything yourself. Dulfy is awesome for this.

I do understand the frustration, but the instructions ARE there, you just have to spend a few minutes getting them. There’s the little event marker telling you to get to Southsun, then a bunch of NPCs with markers on their heads. Talk to these people and listen to what they have to say. If you take a moment to read, you’ll know where to go and what to do.

Thoughts on Raiding

I would be perfectly fine with raids as long as:

1- They do not award any items- cosmetic or spec-wise- that cannot be acquired via 5-man means.

2- They do not offer a faster way to accrue Karma, Laurels, Badges of Honor, Top-Tier crafting materials, or Fractal Relics.

3- They do not have their own tokens/currency.

4- They do not provide any extra boost to Guild Influence.

I assume you didn’t want too see Guild missions either? As most of what you have stated here is exactly what is related to Guild Missions currently.

I was excited for them! But Guild Missions are terrible the way they are. Fortunately, they are completely optional and therefore can be completely ignored.

Well doesn’t my comment make you reconsider the reason you may not want “Raids”? Considering that these features are currently in game and have no impact on you whatsoever and as you say can be completely ignored?

Please read my original comment. I’d be fine with raids. As long as they don’t offer exclusive rewards that we cannot obtain elsewhere.

  1. and #3 is awfully restrictive , Cosmetic rewards are the life blood of the game. Those need to be a reward and having a currency of which to give said reward is also needed.

Then Raiding is no longer an option, but a requirement. Right now, Fractals (which I personally love) are not an option if you want top-tier gear or Fractal skins. And you’re right, cosmetic rewards are the life blood of the game. That’s why Raids cannot reward them exclusively.

World bosses are awesome because you can have a hundred people together doing the same thing, but it took no organization. If an exclusive skin drops from The Shatterer, you go kill the Shatterer. Others will be there. It’s way different when you have to get 25 folks together.

It’s difficult for MANY of us to know enough people for raids. PUGs are not okay for raids, unless GW2 makes them the same difficulty as dungeons (which would raise the question of having them at all). Personally, I like small groups, especially in GW2 when we can all play DPS. So here’s why Raids need to either have NOTHING exclusive and therefore be 100% optional, or not exist:

- Difficult to form a worthy group.
- Potentially forces guildless players to be involved in guilds.
- Discourages small/social guilds
- Introduces a new style of PvE that many PvE players may not want to be part of.
- Goes against the ability to “play what/how you want”, the way Fractals currently does
- Encourages the unholy trinity
- Restricts class builds to specific class-based assumed roles
- Potentially introduces lore and characters that will be otherwise inaccessible
- Essentially requires voice chat

1. LFG (10-Man)
2. Guildless can “PUG” on LFG.
3. How? What will be the size of a “Raid” party?
4. How is this a reason to not “Raid”, based on this why should anyone do any new content at all?
5. Guildwars 2 was built around (Support,Control and Damage) so this wouldn’t be a problem.
6. How?
7. So? People who didn’t do F&F didn’t see Braham or Rox does that mean that the update shouldn’t have went live? (People could atleast attempt to “Raid”)
8. I did all the “Raid” in Guildwars 1 without voice chat.

Sorry for the quote tree.

1- What I meant by “worthy” group was a group that isn’t going to wipe at the first encounter. Unless raids are completely different elsewhere, I’m coming from WoW and Aion, and raids were HARD. An LFG tool works for small groups, not large groups. Generally larger required groups = higher difficulty. Bigger groups = more people “applying” for groups. The ways around it are gear checks, DPS checks, prerequisite achievements… all horrible things.
2- See above /\
3- In Aion they were 12-man. In WoW they were 40-man. Later they dwindled to 10 and 25-man. I’m in a guild of 35 people, usually 6-8 online at once. No way we’d be able to have a guild raid, unless we find a big guild.
4- It’s not a reason to not raid, I was saying that it’s a reason to not give raids exclusive rewards that cannot be obtained by other means.
5- This WOULD be a problem. With 5 people in GW2, you still have the freedom to play your build (assuming you aren’t with a bunch of elitists). When you’re with 24 other folks, all heavies are now tanks. All lights are now ranged dps, and keep your pets away. With larger groups, your class becomes a generalized role.
6- Well, when your class becomes a generalized role, you’re less useful and undesirable if you aren’t capping that role. You can’t play with utilities anymore, you have to go full cannon!
7- People who didn’t do the F&F events probably don’t care about the lore or characters.
8- I’m unfamiliar with Guild Wars 1 raids. In Aion it was possible with a 12-man group, but in WoW I was kicked numerous times for not using some random Vent server to listen to the fat 14-year-olds’ cracking voices. When I left WoW (Lich King update) Vent was a staple.

Difficult to get involved in fractals

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I totally understand. I’m a Fractals fanatic, but I remember the pain of getting scolded for simply not having experienced every shard. Then they change again at level 10, so you think you have it down and then you get blown out of the air by harpies that now have wind nukes.

But! Not all of us are jerks. Sometimes it’s worth it to specify in GW2LFG or in map chat that you’re new. When that happens in my groups (especially Guild plus 1 groups), I calmly explain the shard and if things go south, we just try again. Not everyone is going to be forgiving, and you’ll almost certainly deal with impatient butt-heads (especially when you get to tier 3+), but it’s worth the pain in my opinion. They’re fun!

Nope. Wrong on every point.

If a class can viably be “as strong as it can be”, then there is now one build per class. And you know well that nobody is going to give constructive, welcome, asked-for tips. Unless you’ve never played an MMO before.

I personally would like to see some sort of large-scale instanced dungeon, aka “Raid Dungeon” with big freakin’ bosses that have to be killed in very crazy ways. Sure we have bounties, challenges, and puzzles, but I’d like to see dungeons that have to be completed with a larger-than-average party.

On the other, I’d like to see ArenaNet’s take on making it more Guild War-sy instead of a carbon copy of the traditional raid format that is often found in most other MMOs.

Maybe instead of a set 10- or 25-man maximum size raid dungeon, maybe the raid dungeon could be scaleable to some extent. I know there was almost 60 guild members online last Sunday doing our Guild Missions. I would hate to see some of those people left out because the raid group is “full”.

Also, since there are no dedicated tanks and healers, I’d imagine the encounters would have to be designed to utilize gimmicks, environmental objects, and other interesting out-of-the-box mechanics to defeat those bosses.

This one is wise.

I know Anet isn’t against the idea, but I really hope a level cap increase does not happen. GW2 is capable of expanding with tons of new content without increasing the level cap. In WoW and Rift, a level cap increase meant a decent amount of leveling time before getting to the new endgame- a way to make players experience the new zones and content. But GW2, as we’ve seen with Living Story, can get our lazy butts into other zones by other means than level progression.

What is the purpose of the multiboxing rule?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zuraith.6104

zuraith.6104

You having trouble with your accounts again, Wirldwide?

you’re looking at it wrong, you’re not considering that the multi-boxer takes up 3 slots of game play just as 3 players would.

It comes down to multiboxing being Pay2win.

Why should you be able to get 3times the drops, get 3times the resources from nodes, be 3 times as effective in combat as another player, simply because you paid for 2 extra accounts?

Ok, let’s keep this discussion to 3. We’ll use your numbers…

Now let’s talk about combat. You’re saying three characters against one player is unfair. As just stated in other replies here, you’re making the wrong comparison. You’re stating that three players against one player is unfair. Well, guess what? That unfairness exists in all MMOs regardless of any multi-boxing. In any MMO if one player meets three players all similarly geared, the three players should beat the one player in terms of combat (PvP). Wouldn’t you agree? Your argument goes against the very nature of grouping, character movement in MMOs and the world in which MMOs are built.

I’ve been avoiding this thread so far but I feel I have to add in here. Three individual players vs one player is the game. Three characters controlled by one individual player vs one character controlled by one individual player is not the game.

It’s really this simple. This guy gets it /\

I just did the same thing on my thief. And yes, unknowing, I right click equipped both which just switched them out and made both soulbound. People told me that if I infused one I would be able to wear both so I spent upwards of 20 gold for the mats to forge a fine infusion.

THIS DOES NOT WORK.

One infused, one not, still can’t wear both. And infusing did not make the ring account bound either like some people said. Live and learn I guess.

This is a failure of communication, but “infusing” an ascended item is different from adding an infusion to an item. Infusing (which is currently only possible for rings and back pieces) is when you craft Infused versions of your item by putting them in the Mystic Forge (with other crap). So for example, your “Ring of Red Death” will now read “Ring of Red Death (Infused)”. The only difference is that “Infused” versions add +5 Agony Resistance, without using the Infusion slot.

So a game that had gear progression from level 1 with blue > green > rare > exotic suddenly surprises and disappoints everyone when they add one more? Makes perfect sense. Especially seeing as to how there’s that huge amount of content that requires ascended gear. Oh wait…

Yes, there’s gear progression, getting higher level higher tier gear.
But prior to this, there was no hint of the treadmill, the gradual, utterly pointless power creep of gear.
And now there’s Ascended, the first step of the treadmill.

In the end, anti-grind players are mostly worried about a possible new rarity?

“It’s not as bad as other games so it’s okay”.
“It’s not as bad as the Holocaust, so a little mass murder is okay”.

Bad argument.

Least bad at something = best at it.

Why is that a bad argument?

Well, first of all it’s wrong, seeing as GW1 was the least bad at it (at least before Nightfall)
And secondly, that’s not the argument his analogy puts forth. Being the least bad doesn’t mean it’s acceptable.

Are GW1 players primarily the playerbase upset by Ascended items?

I come from a huge background of MMO’s, but GW1 is not one of them. I like a fast gear grind like GW2 because I still feel like I earned my gear, but I didn’t waste weeks to get it. I couldn’t imagine a completely grind-free MMO… I wouldn’t know what to do.

I don’t know if it’s mostly GW1 players, but I’d wager that most GW1 players have a problem with it.
There was grind in GW1, but prior to Nightfall it was almost entirely cosmetic. Top tier gear wasn’t particularly difficult to acquire. Most runes were fairly inexpensive, except Major/Superior Vigors and a handful of other runes.
There was a very significant grind for aesthetic items, however. Vabbian, Primeval, and especially Obsidian armors were extremely expensive, and were generally used to show that the person had plenty of money and played a long time (and some actually looked good).
What did people do in endgame? Probably PvP for the most part. And Hard Mode when they released that.

But what GW1 never did was add stronger gear. A few new runes were added for filler purposes (all runes improved 1 attribute, health, or for warrior gave damage reduction, and none would stack with a similar rune, so most of the time there would be 1 or 2 armor slots without a rune, so they added a few runes that weren’t particularly powerful but were still useful if you had nothing else to put there), and Major runes and Staves were buffed somewhere along the way, but that’s it.

It sounds like this is an issue of preference, though. Hard Mode sounds like something fun, but I would HATE to have to PvP for my endgame. I like working toward gear, getting it, and then having something else to work toward. I just don’t like an obligation of hours of gameplay a day. So, in my opinion:

Heavy/excessive grinding = bad
Fast to moderate grinding = good
No grinding = bad

GW2 is not a fast grind. Dailies every day for months to gear out one character? Exotics were fine and are described exactly how you talk about GW2. You could get them through any playstyle, but it was gradual and you felt accomplished at getting the stats you want. Then you spend time getting the skins you want and also feel accomplished.

Sorry, I used the wrong word. I meant fast in terms of time grinding, not realtime passed. The dailies for laurels only take 15-20 minutes (even with the new silly ones…) and daily fractals don’t take long if you have a decent handful of friends. I’m putting about 2-3 hours a night into GW2 and grinding toward top-tier gear just as fast as my friends who sink their entire evenings into the game.

“It’s not as bad as other games so it’s okay”.
“It’s not as bad as the Holocaust, so a little mass murder is okay”.

Bad argument.

Least bad at something = best at it.

Why is that a bad argument?

Someone walks up to you and slaps you 46 times. I walk up and slap you once. I’m therefore the best at not slapping you, and therefore me slapping you was okay?

That’s what you’re saying.

That depends. Are you really hot? At least 8/10?

I could sympathize with the argument against Ascended items if the grind were moderate to heavy in order to obtain them. But it really isn’t. Compared to competing MMORPG’s, they’re practically giving us top-tier gear. They have to have some kind of buffer there, and daily accumulation (fractals / daily / monthly) is a great way to do that, because it doesn’t force non-hardcore players to do the same thing twenty times a day for two weeks to get that slightly better chestpiece.
