Simply put: we haven’t announced it yet – when we’re ready to show everything about our plans for challenging content for HoT, we’ll announce it.

Though it isn’t the “challenging content” feature discussed in our announcement – I will add we want our open world content experience to be more challenging as well just in general. Though the AI was better in our CBT experience – we think we still have a lot of work to do to get our creatures and encounters even at the start of Verdant Brink up to where we want them to be. Our game has great combat, our creatures and encounters should challenge and require you to use that combat system.

There is mmr for the account, per arena and mmr for each profession, per arena. We take the two separate mmr for the arena you queue for and combine them together with ratios we can change at any time.

I can’t remember off the top of my head but I’m fairly certain new professions start at default mmr.

For now, this is the formal definition: 1 to 72 US-ASCII characters.

^ This. I can’t even promise we’ll stick to GUIDs in the future, just that the string will never be longer than 72 characters.

Realistically, changing that piece is a lot of work for fairly little benefit, so it’ll probably be 2 concatenated GUIDs for a long time.

I think I misspelled my point. You are right. You want to give out the api key to people you trust, but not publicly. I still think that an information that is a potential security risk should not be exposed by an api, that is (potentially) open to a wide group of people.

Yeah, I think we’re in agreement.

Anyway, I passed the idea to optionally restrict access to the guild banks to members that have TOTP enabled to the guys who work on the guild stuff — I think it would be a nice feature to have, the API just isn’t the right place for it.

It’s just saying that the response contains 3 objects out of 41110 known objects. I won’t argue its usefulness, but I wouldn’t call that result unexpected.

It’s useful if you’re using a language with manual memory management and want to pre-allocate space to unserialize the result objects :P

Would really like to see it be half the size, but there are annoying-to-remove technical restrictions that are currently keeping it long.

1. You are asking the members to give out their api key. Never do that. Granted api keys are not passwords, but they should be kept a secret nonetheless. An exposed api key can still be harmful.

What? No, that’s the point of an API key: to give them to people who you trust with the information (either directly or indirectly, e.g. by giving them to an application). You probably don’t want to go posting them publically, but they’re not very useful if you keep them secret.

On-topic: I know it’d be useful for you, but I’m almost certainly not going to expose authenticator status.

It’s been roughly eight weeks since I started this thread, so here’s an update. All major assets for the Personal Story restoration are in place in our development environment. We’re testing and bug fixing now.

While I don’t have an official release date to share at this time, I can say that you have a little more time to get your characters into the desired state of Personal Story progress. Please refer to the details in the original post when making your own evaluation.

You might be asking yourself why I don’t have a date to share yet. It’s because we’re looking at a few potential release dates on the calendar. We also want to factor in some wiggle room in case we discover any big issues during our testing pass or we encounter any other technical or resource surprises along the way. You know, game development stuff.

For previous World Tournament Series events we have required that players be in possession of a passport at the time they play in the WTSIQ. For the WTS – Cologne, this will not be the case – as long as you can prove your age/nationality, you can compete.

In the event that your team wins the qualifier you will have adequate time to purchase a passport before travelling to Germany. This should make it a lot easier for many of you to compete, and you don’t need to worry about dropping cash on something you might not need.

The normal age/country restrictions still apply.

As a reminder, the World Tournament Series Invitational Qualifier will take place on June 6. More information coming soon.

We’re aware that there is an issue with the scaling in the battle of the Silverwastes at the very start of the beta experience. Testers found an issue in the beta content, but you can still participate.

To help workaround this issue, we suggest that you:

  • Try and wait for others and go in as a group.
  • Use the torch on the wall to call in air strikes to cull the size of the Mordrem horde.
  • Ignore the mobs and resurrect Lightbringer Osa. As long as she’s alive, the timer will keep counting down to succeed this event.
  • In this mission, you have the ability to instantly res over and over at your current location, so use this to your advantage.

This issue will be fixed in the second two beta testing windows, but for the first, 2-hour window, unfortunately we won’t be able to resolve this.

talking about permissions, i think it might be really useful to have the equipment and inventory of characters behind separate permissions too.

Hmm, it might make sense to move the equipment over to the “characters” permission (it currently requires the “inventories” permission). I hesitate to make a permission for everything; my goal is to keep the number to 7 or fewer.

Mostly because I can see people who want to announce their online-status ingame correctly, but not to announce it to the public (or api, in that matter). Alternatively using a seperate permission for that would definitely be a proper solution, which is completely necessary.

I think a separate permission is probably best. Putting it into the guild permission (as suggested earlier), I think is a bit unintuitive (and awkward as the guild permission is currently only useful for guild leaders).

You should probably handle incomplete/duplicate result sets if you care about fidelity.

Most of the unauthenticated endpoints don’t change their data until a patch lands though, so it’s not really that big of a deal. The only place it’ll really bite you (maybe) is the transactions endpoint.

It will be possible to retrieve last connection/disconnection of an account ?
This data will be usefull. With tradingpost endpoint and this, we can deduce golds and items awaiting recovery.

I didn’t plan to expose that data, but it’s been requested often enough that I probably will at some point.

For your use-case it may be more fruitful to just expose the items/coin waiting for pickup though :P

Here are issues the team is aware of in the Closed Beta Test for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns:

  • During the story mission, if players kill the Overseer and/or prison guard and the Story UI text does not update with a new objective, players need to search the area for remaining enemies and defeat them. Once that happens, you should get a new objective displayed. If you encounter this issue, you may see the following greyed out text: “Climb the stairs and search the area” or “Defeat the prison guards.”

A question about /v2/character/:id/equipment: will we get access to what skins the character is wearing as well? Say, for the chest piece, we get the ID for equipment, rune, infusions and skin?

Yeah, skins, upgrades, and infusions are going to be accessible on both the current equipment and in the inventory/bank. One of the Guthub PRs has details about a unified “item stack” structure that exposes this in a normalized form.

I’ve been messing with this API just for fun and I was wondering if it’s be possible to add a field like last_played or is_online to individual characters?

That’s data that can be exposed, but we should have a discussion about how to do it in a way that makes your users happy. I have a hunch that we may want to hide that data behind a separate permission, but I haven’t thought about it enough to have a well-formed opinion.

New waypoint system

Just to clarifying a few points, since there seems to be some confusion. On Borderlands the 3 capturable waypoints are at Garrison, SE Tower and SW Tower. Garrison is for the home team and then each of the invading teams gets a waypoint at their closest tower. These waypoints can be contested as normal. We’ve considered home team waypoints for the Bay/Hills keeps too, but that’s probably too strong. Keep supply depot max goes up to 1100 at T3, not 500.

Maybe, if possible from the technical side, you can add an image of the character? I don’t know how it’s mashed up in your systems, but showing the user’s avatar, like in the character selection screen, would be awesome.

Rest assured, this is something I really, really want too. There’s a lot of moving parts that need to be ironed out before it’s feasible though, so we’ll probably be sticking to low-hanging fruit for awhile yet :<

WRT the ErrPermission; not sure what the cause of the issue is yet, but one of the backend servers in the EU DC is causing some ruckus. The NA one seems fine though; will have this fixed in a bit.

Just turned on the first half of another authenticated endpoint — /v2/characters. This endpoint provides the non-inventory-related bits detailed in this pull request, and requires an API key with “characters” permission from the person whose data you want to access.

Some examples — it basically works in the same manner as most of the other endpoints. The base URL returns a list of all the account’s character names:

Right now the information returned is fairly basic, but we’ll be adding in the ability to pull character inventories, equipment, traits and skills later on.

Due to technical constraints (wibbly wobbly distributed systems) the character blobs may be a bit stale (up to 5 minutes, I think), so factor that in if you’re making a guild rep tracking system or something (because I know someone’s going to do that).

Thaumanova Fractal causes game crash

It happened to us as well just now. We were in Fractal scale 50 and finished two other fractals. While we were doing the third fractal, Thaumanova fractal, all of our clients crashed to the desktop as we killed the skritts in the middle. Once logged in again nobody was in the fractal anymore and all of our progress got lost.

It must be something related to this week’s patch because I’ve never seen a full party crash back to desktop in Fractals before.

Are you getting the crash dialogue to send to ArenaNet? There was an earlier fix this week for a server side crash in fractals but this looks different.

Although the hotfix repair the guild banner tonic, it is still disabled :/

EDIT : Fixed in the latest hotfix

Just wanted to say, I saw this post and thought hmmm… well we tested this before going out but maybe we missed removing the killswitch on live… and sure enough that is what happened.

So thanks Matdudix, I actually don’t own this item in game on Live and your report led to it being back for everyone, albeit with 100% change in the “infinite” nomenclature in the title.

I don’t want to reply in all of the WvW threads, and I would rather the WvW updates come from the WvW team themselves as they have asked for all of the updates to be in the thread they are replying to.

But I can tell you they are looking at this, they are on the right track, and this is being treated with a great deal of seriousness by the team. I don’t have any additional information at this time but I am pretty encouraged by the progress the WvW team is making right now on issues introduced into the game with this last patch.
