It’s gotten to the point that I don’t care anymore.
(Sorry for the rant, but simply thinking about this story makes me angry.)

First off, why the kitten did Mordremoth have to die so quickly? For an expansion called HEART OF THORNS, I expected to see alot of lore involving both him and the sylvari (which we never got btw). Honestly, it should’ve ended with us killing Faolain and giving Mord the boot after a year or so, like Anet did with Scarlet Briar. The only way they could’ve saved the current story from being crappy was having the final battle in Hearts and Minds be one giant trap, and that Mordremoth was tricking the heroes into believing he was gone. That could explain all the “What if Trahearne’s just bait?” foreshadowing and how he’s considered the elder dragon of the mind. Guess he’s really dead now, huh? Killed by a mostly destroyed pact without even being weakened.(Unlike Zhaitan, who was extremely weakened and had the entire pact going against him during the showdown in Arah). Makes absolutely no sense at all.

Second, why should we wonder about how the Black Citadel would react to Rytlock returning? The charr didn’t seem to care about him disappearing before. Why would they care now? And I don’t see a reason why The Shining Blade’s plans for Canach should be brought up either. My guess is that they’ll both just be random story filler.

Here are some questions that still need answering: What happens to the sylvari race now? Where’s Malyck? What does the future hold for the Nightmare Court and the Pale Tree? How are all those political problems in Divinity’s Reach doing? Arenanet left so many hanging threads that were never answered in the end and, if they’re truly moving on to the next elder dragon, probably will never get answered.

And do you know what’s sad? This expansion had so much potential. The cliffhanger at the end of LS2 was the perfect setup, along with all the lore and heavy plot points that were promised in the streams on Twitch. In the end, the story that we got was consisted of plotholes that you could easily fly a plane through all in just 16 chapters. (Seriously, it’s an expansion. IT SHOULD NOT BE THIS SHORT.)

I know that I should just be patient and wait for LS3 to come out before I judge, but I bet it’ll probably be just as disappointing.

[SPOILERS!] Ending opinions

I absolutely hated it.

In my opinion, the personal story ending fight with Zhaitan was much better than HoT because:
1. With Zhaitan, killing him actually made a bit of sense since the Pact weakened him by destroying his food supply, cleansing Orr, murdering Risen spies and champions etc. Also, magical cannons containing anti-dragon mechanisms were involved during the fight with him while he was extremely weakened. With Mordremoth, we barely did anything to weaken him. If anything, it felt like we just ran up and murdered him. If it was that easy, shouldn’t all the elder dragons be dead by now?
2. Zhaitan actually looked like a bad kitten dragon instead of some fat Barney the dinosaur thing.

Not to mention the fact that the “story” felt too short and quick. Which is something that shouldn’t be expected out of a good expansion.

“Oh but the last 2 seasons were us fighting Mor_”

NO. If anything, Season 1 was about stopping that megalomaniac Scarlet and Season 2 was about learning of Mordremoth’s existence. I didn’t feel like we were actually dealing with him at all.

The thing that bothers me the most is that Mordremoth is supposed to be an ELDER DRAGON. He has the ability to corrupt the land around him, yet he can’t kill one measly commander and some ragtag team? And if Mord’s the dragon that represents the MIND, I expect him to be really smart. But even when he’s LISTENING IN while Trahearne explains that we have to go into his mind to kill him, he doesn’t bother to bring the ceiling/vines down to crush the adventurers or spawn Mordrem minions to overwhelm them.
Before HoT’s launch, I was expecting Mordremoth to be a powerful, sadistic, clever beast that I’d love to hate. (Kinda like Sauron from LoTR) But he didn’t feel very strong and menacing at all. He felt more like a weak and stupid Alduin 2.0.
And the worst part? Arenanet kills him off on day 2. That’s just insulting, especially since it took us a year or so to finish Scarlet. It also makes all the sylvari racial tension pointless.I was expecting a good twist where Mordremoth faked his death to lure Tyria into a false sense of security, but the blog post seems to have confirmed that he’s not coming back. Absolutely unforgivable.

The main reason why I pre-purchased Heart of Thorns was for the story and lore involving Mordremoth, the Pale tree and the sylvari, and in the end I felt like I got slapped in the face.

Honestly, at the very least they shouldn’t have robbed Eir of her last victory -ridding the world of Faolin- at least that would have gave her death impact and meaning. But no, Faolin comes back the very next instance… sorry Eir, no hero’s death for you, you have to die in vain. And Faolin should not have been killed off on her first appearence in the first place, there’s so much more they could have done with her, such as the unsteady pact/nightmare court alliance others suggested.

It was just bad story planning… I’d expect more from a story director who worked at Disney…

………..The person who helped make this sorry excuse for a story worked at Disney?
That’s just too awkward to believe.

I think it’s better off to just give up all hope on Arenanet and the game itself.
The GW2 community waited patiently for Heart of Thorns and a bunch of other amazing stuff promised to arrive with absolutely zero content in-game for 9 months and THIS is how we’re rewarded?

The point is that I’m just tired.
I’m tired of waiting for new content to show up.
I’m tired of the recycled Wintersday/Halloween events.
I’m tired of the story being so irredeemably awful.
I’m tired of being disappointed over and over.

The worst part? Guild Wars 2 was a game that used to really enjoy. Now it just seems like a chore.
The only reason why I open it up nowadays is to get the daily reward and chat with my guild. That’s it.

Shame on you, Arenanet. You’re not getting another cent from me.

Looking back at this forum discussion after the recent news update, I don’t know how to feel about it.

I still wouldn’t say that this theory is dead yet. Who knows? Maybe Mordremoth will be reborn inside Glints egg.Maybe he planted his seeds onto Logan and Zojja. Or maybe since there were 3 head versions of the Mouth of Mordremoth instead of one floating around the battle area in Heart and Minds, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mordy had 2 backup mouths somewhere.

….Or I could be wrong and LS3 will be absolutely dreadful and have as many plotholes and wasted potential as HoT’s story did. All I can say is this: If Mordremoth is truly dead and that’s all we’ll ever see of him, I’ll be convinced that it’s impossible for Arenanet to write a decent story.

Although the new Shatterer event and gliding in core Tyria seems pretty cool, I am extremely frustrated and saddened, along with a bunch of other players, by what you guys are doing with the story.

So…nothing about what happens to the Pale Tree? The Nightmare Court? The entire sylvari race as a whole? No twist with Mordremoth? He’s just dead and that’s all we’ll ever see of him? And STILL no mention of Malyck?

Hell, the Black Citadel didn’t even change when Rytlock disappeared, so why should we care?

If anything, you’re just digging yourselves a deeper hole with this story. You’ll even lose ALOT of people VERY soon if you keep going this way.

And a quick additional question, which should be able to be answered: What happens if you play through the Heart of Thorns story missions without choosing an Order? Who do you get as a surprise visitor during the final story mission?

Someone surely has done this, given how many people say how much they don’t like the core Tyria personal storyline (and how many people have tome-levelled Revenants to get to HoT directly). My guild leader mentioned this thought to me, and it’s been gnawing at me since then.

If you don’t pick an order, Trahearne shows up and says ‘’This won’t end well…for you!"

To answer OP: Yeah, we can all agree that HoT’s story sucked.

My main problems:Some of the ’’chapters’’ consisted of just nothing but pure filler of going from point A to point B, there was no mention of anything from the sylvari personal stories (I really wanted to see what happened to Maylck,Carys and the White Stag.),the deaths of Eir, Faolain and Trahearne were VERY uncalled for, and the way Arenanet handled Mordremoth.

Still hoping that the theories are true and that the story we’ve got for now isn’t the end of the line for the Heart of Thorns plot.

My problem with raids in this game

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: AESOkami.1072

AESOkami.1072

Ok I’ll just explain:

My problem with raids is not the timer. The Vale guard boss always keeps wiping out my team with some flash attack that I have no clue on how to avoid. Either that or my squad having low DPS.

My main problem with raids…. is the fact that in order to get more into HoT’s plot/lore, the players HAVE to do them.

As in having to grind your face against tough as hell bosses just so you can see how the story continues.

Just….why? I honestly don’t give two kittens about the legendary armor or the other rewards. I just want to see where the plot goes. That’s all.
This just feels like a big “screw you” to people who are into this game’s lore. Anet exaggerated on Guild chat that “Oh all this story that we’re gonna reveal is going to be so great you guys need to see it!” yet lumping the extremely over-the-top hard content with the plot just prevents most people from reaching/seeing it. I have yet to see past the Vale Guardian.

Here’s a suggestion on how to fix this: Split the raids into two modes. (Kinda like Final Fantasy XIV.)
Have an easy mode for people that do the raid for story while giving them rewards that you’d get out of an easy fractal run.
And have a hard mode for hardcore players that want legendaries.
You may even have less people complaining about it.

If there are any Arenanet employees reading this, PLEASE consider.

Oh, and all the ‘’buh raids r suposed 2 b hard git gud" replies on this thread will be ignored. That’s not an excuse.

TL;DR: HoT’s story content + very difficult content = bad.

Mordrem from launch trailer-where are they?

in Lore

Posted by: AESOkami.1072

AESOkami.1072

In the launch trailer for HoT that Arenanet released a launch trailer that showed the following:

*Bramble vines in the shape of a dragon-like foot crushing a rock.
*A mordrem guard with purple eyes that seemed to be created without corrupting a sylvari and instead weaved using vines. Was shown fighting Rytlock.
*A huge creature completely made out of vines that bursts up at the end. Lots of people thought it was Mord’s physical form, but the devs just called it ‘’the vine creature’’ in Guild Chat 11.

Yet while playing through the HoT story and the open world maps, none of them have been shown. Alot of people in the community, including myself, are curious to know where they are.
They may appear in a future raid, but if Mordremoth is truly dead, (there’s lots of speculation that he might be alive) then what’s their purpose?

Feel free to speak your thoughts. I’m honestly hoping that Arenanet uses them for more than just advertisement.

Judging by the fact that there’s no replies about what happens in the recent Spirit Vale release, I’m just going to assume that we learn nothing about the mordrem.
(I’d find out if I didn’t keep getting stuck in raid teams with bad DPS.)

There’s basically zero lore in Spirit Vale, which is a shame since there was so much potential for it.

Thanks for letting me know.

I honestly think that combining lore content into over the top hard content was a bad idea. (My suggestion is that Arenanet should add an ‘’easy mode’’ to the raids for people that just want more story and keep the current mode for hardcore folks that want better rewards/legendary armor, but I’ll make another thread for that.)

I would dare say i hate how we killed Mordremoth even more than how we killed Zhaitan. At least with Zhaitan, we HAD to use cannons specifically designed to kill Elder Dragons [notice how this cannon tech doesn’t seem to exist now, i guess Zojja forgot].

If you recall, their entire fleet was shot down, including the cannons before they knew what was happening. You know that airship in Verdant Brink with the glowing aura coming out of a ‘core’? That’s the main airship of the fleet. Mordremoth took them out before they could fire the cannons. Meaning we lost our highest tech stuff in this fiasco.

And yet we STILL killed Mordremoth, who is supposed to be far stronger than Zhaitan, much more easily. In fact, we, almost literally, beat him with nothing but swords.

In his mind. He had the most unstoppable body, but his mind was his weakness. If we had a battle against his body we never would have won.

That reminds me. Just how exactly do we know that Mordy’s true weakness is his mind? We don’t even look around for researched proof in Rata Novus for it. We just assume that his brain is his Achille’s heel and jump straight in.
Kind of reminds me of that one quest in the PS where we just thought that a certain spot in a tomb was the center of Orr, but it was not so we had to ask for help to find it. (Arenanet just might be repeating that here.)

’’Mordremoth’s weakness is his mind.‘’ says the corrupted-looking sylvari that’s been captured for a few days and may have had that thought planted into his mind while the dragon is listening in.
“SEEMS LEGIT. LET’S GO.”

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/The-end-wasn-t-the-end-SPOILERS/first
I actually created a forum about Mord not being dead, if you folks want to check it out.

I agree with most of it. I only have different interpretations on some details.
Like Mordremoth’s weakness. He’s the dragon of plants and mind. We’ve been told that during season 2. This dragon IS the jungle, and he’s completely immobile because of that. The only way he can expand his influence on the world is through his mind and his vines. He has to have an incredibly powerful mind. He has to be able to trick us, and to prevent us from killing his mind through the Dream thanks to a simple and weak Sylvari that is nothing more than his own creation. It was stupid to make his mind his weakness. It was just a really bad deus ex machina to end the story a lot quicker than it should !
The dragon has a real body somewhere. We saw his mouth after Scarlet’s death. He has a body that is immobilized. His weakness has to be his real body, not his mind. His mind is his best tool and weapon. We should have found his body burried deep in the jungle, found his real heart, the HEART OF THORNS, and destroyed it ! I want this story to finish with the death of a real big impressive dragon, not a plump lizard walking on two legs.

I’m really hoping this is not the end. Everything HAS to be pushed further in this story. It can’t stay like that, this is clearly not satisfying.
There are 16 chapters I believe. I felt like I was half way through the story during chapter 14. Not only because it felt way too short for an entire expansion story, but mostly because the 2 last chapters are like “let’s finish this quickly !” when nothing is actually resolved (hence the deus ex machina) And all this only because ANet wanted to kill Mordremoth at the end of the expansion, which wasn’t necessary at all. The story lost a lot of its credibility and epicness because of that and feels sketchy.

I want to see a plot twist in the next living story season that shows us we’ve been manipulated and the only thing we did was to kill Trahearne. It was all part of Mordremoth’s plan to make us believe we killed him so now he can prepare his next big attack (like attacking Rata Sum which is right next to him) without being disturbed by the races of Tyria fighting him.

In my opinion WoodenPotatoes sums up all the problems HoT story has (sadly they are many) in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tL-8bSUothk
He’s a big GW lore nerd and his opinions are always very interesting and very well thought. And he’s followed closely by the devs so I expect them to react if it’s not the case already.

Why do the elder dragons even need a weakness to begin with? I tried to not explore that tangent, because it is full of lore contradictions. Kralkatorrik can only be hurt with his own body, similar to the legendary lion in Hercules, that could only be killed and skinned with it’s own claws. The crystal dragon is a living crystal, so I can accept the whole “can only scratch a diamond with an equal or better diamond.” Zhaitan… Yeah, I didn’t see any real weakness there. We literally starved him, destroyed his armies, and blasted a giant super-laser at him. That was military tactics, not weakness. The EDs never really had an Achilles tendon weakness before. They are the embodiment of the chaotic forces of nature that hold the world together. If a volcano explodes, it doesn’t have a weakness, people don’t fight it(unless they live in Iceland). This whole “Elder Dragon Weakness” contradicts everything we’ve learned so far.

As Mordremoth is officially the dragon of mind, I was kinda hoping for a giant war of subtlety and subterfuge(Order of Whispers battle anyone?). I am personally hoping that my Sylvari Reaper is actually an unsuspecting sleeper agent for Mordremoth. Through Trahearne, Mordremoth realized that that his real target was none other than the Commander. Putting up a convincing act, he draws the Commander into the dream, where he can turn this pillar of power into a perfect puppet. While everyone is distracted with the dream battle, Mordremoth gets to work. Of course, this strategy is a high risk move, as he releases a lot of his magic to make his “death” look convincing, but the real battle has only just begun. The death of Trahearne was a bonus. At least, this is my hope. I thought Mordremoth would be equivalent to Niv-Mizzet from MtG in intelligence. A dragon so intelligent that a mind-reader trying to read his mind would make his/her brain spontaneously combust. I’ll just keep my fingers crossed.

I also agree that it was way to short. Like I said before: urgency does not equal short story. I need my fill of good story-telling.

I love WP. I only just recently watched his HoT lore video, since I am not one for spoilers.

There’s a huge chance of this happening. Since Scott and Bobby said that they’ve been working on this story for 2 YEARS (as said in POI 18) for a paid expansion, there should be much more coming and Arenanet will release it slowly (like a good expac would do).
Plus, Mordremoth has the ability to plant thoughts in a sylvari’s mind anyways.Maybe some of the sylvari NPC’s ideas (or maybe even your sylvari character’s) could’ve been put in by the dragon himself.

I’m not talking about getting to him. (That’s hard enough)
No, what I’m talking about is the actual fight with him.

I’ve been on lots of teams that struggled with the tower parts, yet we could easily get the mouth’s health to HALF on the first burn. The best team that I’ve been on had his health less than 25%.

For being the quote on quote “physical” form of Mordremoth and/or an extension of the big bad dragon himself, simply dropping mortars on him while other folks poked him with weapons sure did alot of damage to him.He seems kinda weak IMO.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the fight but I feel that it ended too quick and needs to go on longer.

Maybe you could make the timers where he tries to destroy the islands shorter or beef up his health alot? Just a suggestion for a new patch.

Another update by OP:
Act 4 of the story just seems like one big trap from the start.

Mordremoth used Logan and Zojja as bait to lure you in while getting as many clones of them as he can for his army.
Once you break them out, Faolain shows up and you’re forced to chase her down and kill her only to see Trahearne get pulled away right to where he can suddenly teleport you to the said ‘’weak spot.’’
He could’ve kept the barrier vines up on the paths to block you from reaching his center, but he doesn’t.
He could’ve had multiple armies of Mordrem overwhelm you, but he doesn’t.
He could’ve easily stopped Trahearne from portaling you into his mind, but he doesn’t.

And why else would Faolain be there at the right moment?
’’You’ll never make it to Trahearne!’’
.
.
.
leads you straight to Trahearne

Something else to add to this: You defeating him was also part of Mordy’s trap. I mean, he should know about the rifts and what they do by now if he’s been in the Dream for that long. He didn’t display a shocked reaction when you turned the blighted characters against him. Plus, isn’t it his OWN mind that we’re in? Clearly he should have control over it.

And nothing screams ’’suspicious’’ more than a corrupt looking, shriveled Trahearne saying ‘’kill me, kill me’’ while Mordremoth taunts you in the most out of character way.Almost as if he wants you to kill him.

From what I know, an elder dragon does not have unlimited energy. They have to gather it the moment they awaken. Mordremoth was plugged in where the ley lines were, so he must’ve gotten his much quicker than the other elder dragons (except maybe Primordus) have.

Asura character doesn’t have any special dialogue when exploring Rata Novus.
Charr character shows no emotion when their story mentor appears out of nowhere after missing for so long.
Human character has no special reaction to The Exalted AKA transformed fellow members of their race.

The story seems more focused on sylvari characters, and even they don’t get much. A couple of stuns that make your screen shaky, 3 pact members that act racist towards your character and just a handful of special lines said by Mordy himself.

Come on Arenanet, you’re better than this.

I see a lot of people saying how the Mordremoth was focused on the battle outside so he wasn’t aware of your presence, and yet when you get to Trahearne and decide to attack his mind you hear his growl and Canach says that he understands what you want to do. Which implies he was aware of you and was tracking your progress the whole time. As for the Mouth, yes, it was his physical body, but considering that he is immortal as long as his mind is intact he could’ve simply abandon the Mouth and focus completely on your character. He can regrow another Mouth anyway. If it even is true that he has to divide his presence between you and the fight outside.

Love the expansion, but the story is lame. With Zhaitan we had to weaken him completely before taking him on, but with Mordremoth, and it’s said that he could be stronger that Zhaitan, we just bash in the Jungle, slash, burn, stomp, suddenly Rata Novus and their research on the dragons out of the blue, some more slashing and we’re done, with no explanation what happened to Taimi, what happened to Kass and the company etc. I would like that the beginning of S3 would show us celebrating Mordremoth’s defeat and then Taimi shows up with bad news (in my case, good news). Or something like that.

Exactly. Not to mention in Prisoners of the Dragon, one of the Mordrem guard said that their master Mordremoth KNEW they were coming. So, I’m sure Mordremoth would know that you would get to the center of him eventually. It feels pretty obvious that it’s a trap.

OP here. I found another reason as to why Mordremoth isn’t dead.

7.No one in your party got corrupted.
Arenanet stated that if any sylvari gets too close to the dragon, they WILL become mordrem. No exceptions. Yet when we simply waltzed into his “epicenter”, Caithe and Canach (and your sylvari character) didn’t become corrupt or showed signs of it. Not even Trahearne, who retained himself until the very end. Though we were in Mordremoth’s "center’’ for a couple of weeks and in his BRAIN….we STILL didn’t turn into his slaves. You don’t even have an excuse when an effing HERO POINT establishes this.

Mordremoth’s full attention and power was not on your characters, he legitimately could not corrupt you without causing himself some serious problems in the battle at Dragon’s Stand outside. So he had to keep his energy divided, and his best chance of corrupting anybody could only happen when one or both sides were taken out. But the battle raged on outside, and we entered his section of The Dream to defeat him.

If you took Canach with you, you’ll notice that during his fight he outright states that he cannot fight back anymore after 25%, he didn’t have the resistance to Mordremoth enough to fight his corrupted illusion and avoid being taken over, so he left the illusion to us to avoid being taken over, signs that any sylvari who isn’t a firstborn may have problems. Caithe meanwhile has no problems, which we can assume is due to her being a Firstborn, thus she has more of the Pale Tree’s protection by being one of the first children she passed her magic to. This also explains why Trahearne held out as long as he did. The only excuse our PC has as a sylvari for avoiding this is that we held Glint’s egg, it gave us its energy at one point, and chose us to defend it. It gave us more resistance to his corruption.

The only time Mordremoth had enough power to corrupt anybody close was when both his body and his mind were taken out, meaning both battles were won. The only place left he was in at this point was inside Trahearne, so it was a concentrated source. But we destroyed him here.

There are no exceptions to being corrupted if Mordremoth is at full power, but he had to handle an army at his mouth while dealing with some of the most powerful fighters in the world in his head. He couldn’t do both at once.

You’ve got it wrong. It’s the influence that the dragons radiate that corrupts, rather then the dragons acting themselves.
Look at Zhaitan. Any dead body that came in touch with his influence immediately became a risen even though he didn’t react at all.

OP feedback time!

{I think he’s dead. Honestly, I thin ArenaNet is realizing that creating a story around 6 magical all powerful elder dragons and only having enough resources and manpower to release one expansion (and two LS seasons) in a 3 year timespan is gonna mean we won’t be rid of all of them for at least another ten years. This means they cannot take the story anywhere else because people will wonder, okay what about the dragons? Are we just going to do x story and pretend the elder dragons are taking a break? I excpect more rushed kills in the future because I’m sure they understand that releasing another 4 expansions in which we kill a dragon isn’t going to get really old really fast.}

Providing players with enough content is the point of running an MMO. If you don’t, then people will get bored and stop playing, and the company will go broke. That’s why having Mordy not truly gone would be a prefect opportunity for Arenanet. It would give us more interesting content along with a non-sucky story.

Also, it’s not just the EDs that we’ll be dealing with in the future. There’s dealing with the aftermath of the dragons, taking care of Glint’s kid, Cantha, After Cantha, Elona, After Elona and a bit more could be revealed in the future. That’s enough story content to last the game for 15 years or more.

{This is going to be the new “We didn’t kill Zhaitan” isn’t it}

You didn’t read Reason 1, did you?

{Completely agree with OP. I’ve said before Mordremoth dying on day 2 of “Heart of Thorns” Is like if Arthas was killed on day 2 of Wrath of the Lich King. If we actually did beat Mordremoth the writers really need to think about ways to make it much more convincing. Mordremoth had so many ways to easily prevent what happened so if it wasn’t a trap/plan that’s just some bad writing.
Or another comparison. Imaging if Sauron died in the first chapter of LotR. Or if Voldemort died in the first book of Harry Potter. What would you expect from the rest of the series? If Mordremoth is actually gone I will be extremely disappointed.}

^This.

{So, Scarlet, a mere living form and a puppet, a minion, makes a war that last for 1 or 2 years in real time, and this Elder so Powerful dragon, the real deal, the Big Boss, just struggle for a week? Seriously I need more of Mordremoth, we deserve this or the whole Heart of Thorns tittle lose all the sense. Maybe too early to complain? The time will tell then….I was having fun with the story, is a shame that “ended” this way.
Actually, the “fight” with Mordremoth took months if you follow the LS from the events that leads to Dry Top, at the start of Mordrem attacks, the tendrils invasions on other regions, waypoints destroyeds, and so on…
When the commander (you, me and everyone else) and his group made their way to find the Dragon, it was inevitable that an end wouldn’t happen, like the path on to lvl 0 to 80 then fighting Zaithan, unless Anet have something for us like Mordy still living, i think in future living stories, more secondary enemies will emerge, like Scarlet… even tied to Mordremoth.}

I don’t think Season 2 really counts as the ’’fight’’. It’s mostly dealing with the aftermath of Scarlet and learning about Mordremoth himself IMO. And you didn’t really do anything to weaken him rather than kill a bunch of his lesser minions (which he can easily summon more of), unlike Zhaitan.

{You probably need to realize that Mordy probably used a lot of ley-line energy to take down the Pact Fleet. Do you really think he didn’t use any energy at all? It’s like you having unlimited ammo and taking down the enemy without reloading. If that was the case, Mordy would have taken down Rata Sum and Divinity Reach without any issue as Mordy would be able to spawn hordes and hordes of Mordrem to overwhelm any army.
And from Sylvari players, it seem Mordy is continuously calling out to those Sylvari that did not get corrupted by the call. Do you really think that call does not use energy? Again, unlimited ammo situation again. And again, if that was the case, Mordy could just use it’s full power and continuously call out to all those Sylvari and continuously wear them down without any issues.}

Ok, lashing out at the Pact may have taken a his energy away, but he’s supposed to be the jungle itself. So doing that in his own playground must not have taken away much, and he could easily just consume more magic from the ley lines that he’s plugged into. As for the mordrem, I disagree. The dragons do this all the time with their servants. It should not take away any magic to simply tell a minion to ’’go stand over there and do this thing".

{you’re putting WAY too much thought into this. I’m willing to bet that anet just rushed the story because of some stupid reason, and added too many fragmented plot points and lore inconsistencies.
What about how every dragon has a weakness? we starved zhaitan to the ground, destroyed his army production site, and cooked him alive by firing LAVA at him after CUTTING HIS TAIL OFF.
And then there’s kralky: snaff forcibly grounded him via mind control, which let plenty of people wail on him. At least until logan happened.
Now, i’m no expert. But being the victim of such a severe guerrilla-tactic attack and then was shot at by lava, or being attacked by a group of people while being rendered completely immobile isn’t exactly a specific weakness unique to a single dragon.}

We didn’t do the same thing to Mordremoth as we did with Zhaitan, though. And for Kralkatorrik, Destiny’s Edge, a group of 6 people, had a big dragon helping them. We did not.

{The Mouth of Mordremoth is supposed to be the main body of Mordremoth, however, Mordremoth can regrow his body from his corruption is what Trahearne was saying. You have to either destroy all of his corruption – or as the dues ex machina revelation the PC had, kill his brain.}

I wouldn’t really call the Mouth of Mordremoth being the physical version of Mordremoth himself. Consider: If Zhaitan could have multiple mouths, then what’s stopping Mordy from doing the same?

{The idea is supposed to be that was what Mordremoth had planned. But as we saw with Logan and Zojja he didn’t have time to make those clones just yet.
Mordremoth was intending to create an army of Trahearnes, Logans, and Zojjas to attack the world. Probably Eirs and Faolains too but we put a stop to that too fast.}

Except Mordremoth is easily capable of cloning sylvari. Trahearne is a sylvari. Logan and Zojja are not. The reason why it took longer to make clones of them is because they aren’t sylvari. Also, we saw Trahearne getting multiplied in the egg cinematic and not Zojja/Logan.

Now for some things to add:
First off: I like the idea of the Pact Commander slowly becoming Mordremoth’s puppet without realizing it.Most of the Pact (and members of DE 2.0) could realize this and turn on you. Heck, one of the pact NPCs even says that the commander needs to stick around longer, so they might be starting to reflect that your doing a bad job. Take notes, Arenanet.

Second:The expansion is called Heart of Thorns and not Raids and Elite Specs:The Expansion or even Mind of Thorns. As reapex pointed out, the egg cinematic showed what seemed to be Mordremoth’s heart. We already beat up his mind and (one of) his mouth(s) but we didn’t kill his heart.(And the egg even showed a city with Mordremoth’s ’’influence’’ over it at the very end, which could foreshadow something later.)

Third: Arenanet and others kept saying ‘’Ohmygosh, you people NEED to make a sylvari! You’ll encounter prejudice from other pact members and hear Mordremoth speak to you!" But in the ’’story’’, we got prejudice from 3 pact members, got stunned a couple of times and heard Mordy speak for only 4 chapters (even then he doesn’t have much to say). That’s just pathetic.

Fourth: The HoT launch trailer. At the beginning, it showed what looked like Mordy’s foot, yet we never saw anything like that in the expansion. Not to mention the big viney creature (which I’m guessing will be either a raid boss or have something to do with LS) who appeared at the end.

I’m just sitting here praying that Arenanet’s writers aren’t as terrible as I fear they are. Because if they pull a ‘’welp the dragon is dead that’s it everyone go home’’ on us, I will be extremely furious. They only way that Anet can save this story now is a complete reboot, or a complete turnaround.

[PS I have no clue on how to quote multiple people in a reply as I don’t go to the forums often, so I just copied and pasted everyone that I wanted to answer to.]

AESOkami.1072

I’m honestly angry with how HoT’s story turned out and hopefully, if Arenanet goes with this theory that I found (credit goes to Leallax.1482/salad-commander on Tumblr for figuring out most of the theory while I added in a few more speculations), it can make up for it.

Major spoilers obviously. Tread carefully.

So here goes:

Mordremoth is not dead.

And here are some reasons why:

1. It felt too easy and too fast.
At multiple times, the game says that Mordremoth is easily more powerful than Zhaitan.Yet with Zhaitan, it took a huge army along with foiling Risen spies, gaining artifacts that repelled dragon corruption, destroying it’s food and minion supply and lots of planning that felt like months to finally finish him off. With Mordremoth, we just had to leave our destroyed army behind, saw two people die, brought Glint’s egg to Tarir, discovered that apparently all the elder dragons have a weakness and took a small group of adventurers across the jungle to somehow waltz into the dream and poke Mordremoth’s mind AKA a big tubby lizard to death with our weapons. That’s just it. And it felt like just 3 days that this all happened with no effort.

2.So many unanswered questions.
Leah Hoyer herself hinted that the ideals between the Mordrem Guard and the Nightmare Court would be explored in the HoT storyline (as said in the Mordrem Guard Point of Interest) yet it never was. They didn’t even explain the differences between the Dream, the Nightmare and Mordremoth. Why?
Also, what happened to Malyck and his tree? What happened to Taimi in Rata Novus? What happened with all those politicial problems involving Queen Jennah in Divinity’s Reach? What happened to the Pale Tree? What happened to Logan, Zojja, Kasmeer and Rox? Did they get out ok? Hell, we didn’t even get an ending cinematic of everyone celebrating. All we got at the "end’’ was the egg absorbing the released magic and a few strips of dialogue.

3.Too much foreshadowing.
All through the story, NPCs kept saying ‘’What if this is bait?" “Is this a trap?” "Does Mordremoth know we’re coming?" And guess what happens? Zero. No traps. No ambushes. Not one event happened where I felt like Mordy was actively and aggressively wanting to murder us. And to quote Canach(he says this if you’re sylvari in Prisoners of the Dragon): Mordremoth loves surprises.
It’s obvious that he’s planning something big.

4. No changes happened with the jungle.
Mordremoth is said to be the whole jungle. Yet when we finished attacking his mind, the jungle doesn’t decay into some swamp-like land or whatever. It remains exactly the same and full of life.
Not to mention the Mordrem still walk around the jungle and attack Verdant Brink at night like they usually do on a daily basis.

5. Mordremoth can take over any sylvari’s thoughts.
As told by the devs and Canach, Mordremoth has the ability to plant thoughts in sylvari’s heads. After you dealt with his mind, he could’ve just put the idea that he was dead into Canach’s brain.(And yours too, if you were sylvari.)

6. Mordremoth is supposed to be the elder dragon of the mind.
Not to mention he, along with the other elder dragons, is said to be 10000000000+ years old. Surely he has alot of tricks up his sleeve.

“Oh, but we fought Mordremoth’s physical form in Dragon’s Stand!”
No, we didn’t. The Mouth of Mordremoth is supposed to be an EXTENSION of the jungle dragon rather than the dragon himself. And Laranthir even yells “Commander!” during the fight. So it’s said to be that the PC participated in the fight along with dozens of other players. (Which brings up another question: Does the Pact have multiple commanders?)

“But if he isn’t dead, why did all that magic release?”
Because Trahearne was literally plugged into Mordremoth. So when we destroyed the Marshal, all the magic that was stored around and even inside him was opened and released.
(And here’s something interesting: the devs pointed out that minions of Mordremoth can be cloned. We even saw what looked like Trahearne getting multiplied in the City of Hope cinematic. What if maybe, just maybe….the Trahearne we brought down wasn’t the actual Trahearne but rather a clone of him? …..Let’s save that theory for another time.)

“Mordremoth just underestimated us!”
Wrong. Mordremoth knows that we were strong enough to kill Zhaitan. If he had underestimated us, then he wouldn’t have brought down the Pact fleet.

“But Arenanet never mentioned Mordremoth being alive in The Road to 2015!”
I’m guessing because they don’t want to give away spoilers.

TL;DR We haven’t heard the last of Mordremoth and he will be back. He just wanted the Pact to think that he was dead so they would leave him alone and not get in the way of his plans. And the end of Hearts and Minds, Mordy managed to trick us into thinking we killed him, but it costed him some of the magic he consumed.

If you have any opinions on this theory, please reply.

(SPOILERS) About Mordremoth's ''call'' in LS

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: AESOkami.1072

AESOkami.1072

I’m really hoping this is not a bug.

Mordremoth has been refusing to talk to me since I’ve met the Itzel in chapter 2. At first when I heard it, I thought it was a great touch. But from chapters 3 to13, (I’m now on 14th) he’s gone silent, which really annoys me after how built up the fact that Nolan North was going to be the Jungle Dragon was.

At first and for a long time, I thought Mordy refusing to speak in my character’s mind because he was either busy with doing things to other minions, or he was eagerly watching my sylvari just to watch her fail.
That is, until Canach brought up Mordremoth’s call being ’’quieter’’ in Rata Novus….

So, Mordremoth was apparently shouting at my character this whole time but Arenanet muted it? Lame.

So here’s my question: Just why exactly did Arenanet silence Mordremoth’s call for sylvari PCs? If it has something to do with a later chapter, please don’t spoil it for me.

(P.S. Mordy should better have alot to say when I finally fight him)

This has been really bothering me for a while now.

Less than a month ago, my dad and I built a new computer and had Windows 10 installed on it. But when I had my old computer with Windows Vista installed, the game’s FPS ran perfectly. And when I run GW2 on this computer, not only are the loading screens longer, but I also get so much lag to the point that I can’t do world bosses or guild missions anymore because I get less than 15 FPS.

The worst part is that I don’t know what’s wrong with it or how to fix it. I thought at first that the video driver might be the problem, but Dad says that it’s up to date and I might have to get a new video card for the problem to be fixed.

So, fellow Guild Wars 2 players, if you know what my problem is and how to fix it, PLEASE let me know. I want to be rid of this laggy FPS at least before HoT beta weekend starts up. If you need extra information from me if you’re confused, I’ll tell you.

Ever since the new LS came out, everyone’s been wondering this.

Here are a couple of theories for what will happen with the next Living story or during gameplay.

1.It will be like the GW2 beta where if you got corrupted by the Shatterer you were turned into a branded and were forced to attack other players.
2.Your character is ’’special’’ so s/he will be immune to corruption. (Mordy will possibly try to corrupt your character but it will fail)
