Yeah, because there are no other mobs using boons / conditions in dungeons / fractals.
Dredge are hated for their perma-protection, the golem in CoE has boons and encourages reflections / boon stripping, the hotw p1 “I am anti-every-playstyle”-final boss also has boons etc.
I admit that there should be more things like mobs giving themselves fury or so. Moreover, this game lacks heavy condition damage regarding bosses. The only one I can think of is the first boss of SE p3 and, to an extent, the spider queen in AC which immobilizes and gives weakness, lowering the DPS of the players.
Risen Gorillas on the other hand … perma-weakness is kinda dumb.
I wonder if we play the same AC.
Nevermind, I can totally relate to that.
@Nick
I don’t consider a fight which lasts a few seconds a waste of time and it gives a nice Waypoint.
Guess what “maybe you didn’t see it” means? Wow, you seem to be a very nice person!
What I wanted to say is that I didn’t encounter him spinning without any tell yet. Sorry!
I PUG AC daily (god bless my soul) and I never ever saw ppl skip Kohler. Even the badest of the bad don’t skip him from what I’ve seen at least.
@hendo: How is that even possible? Isn’t the tell quite obvious and always the same? I mean, there is a high chance of not seeing the tell because 1. all the particle effects block the sight 2. the effects / stance of him which tell you that he is going to throw his anchors and spin afterwards can easily clip into the wall, so you won’t see it.
Funny thing is that, in many pugs, he hits with his anchors, so he spins even though there are enough reflections up because people always seem to stand in a weird way. (I think the anchors “start” from the inside of his body, so when you stand in him, it doesn’t get reflected.
But to be honest … Kohler dies so quickly that any tactic or clever use of anything doesn’t matter anymore.
On average boss fights lasted about 0-10% longer. On fotm49 things went faster than usual because I gearchecked the group to make sure they were all zerkers. Usually I can carry some slackers, but I don’t risk it anymore.
And this ladies and gents, is why nerfing zerker was a bad idea.
Why? People shouldn’t get carried by good players while they’re in PVT. They should gear properly and learn. Of course there is no issue with taking 3 defensive pieces and 3 zerker pieces for getting started.
@Cookie
of course it’s true. I just wanted to make clear that these are exceptions which work due to several reasons (let’s say LoS / stacking + issues with the spots in relation to the lured boss)
Let me troll: you don’t need to stack to bug them. 1 person is enough to LoS them there, thus bugging it out.
The TA knight not attacking has nothing to do with stacking in general. It’s just that the tree bugs him. It’s kind of an exploit.
LoS him to another wall and he will attack.
So using this boss as an example misses the point by a few miles.
Try harder.
@ dutchiez
Even the ooze in arah p1 is not a good example imo. It works because you are on another layer where his earthquakes won’t get you as you aren’t on the same floor as he is.
It works not because you stack, it works because you are not on the same floor which is a big difference (and again, has nothing to do with stacking in general). It’s rather a stupid boss design. The ooze should be able to hit you up there, should be able to follow you or the thingy which you climb should be deleted.

I think the real key points in enjoying the dungeon is really knowing all the tricks and strategies.
No. Many people knew all these strats shortly after it came out. It makes it less of a pain when everyone knows what to do, but that is a fact for all dungeons in this game.
I still don’t see how most of the puzzles and puzzle-ish bosses are any fun, especially towards the end where the game turns into a Mario Party Minigame. Even worse, the last boss is awful. A kiting nightmare which can be bursted down in just one lap like so many other bosses.
The only positive signs are the Sparkly&whateverhisnamewas boss fight (to some extent), low HP-trashmobs and cool skins which never drop anyway.
All is vain.

In my opinion, the dredge fractal would be fine without the middle-section (bomb / turret-wall-section + middle boss and clown car).
That may be a little bit too short if one gets the button puzzle done quickly, though.
Well, bad RNG …
Yesterday I got dredge twice.
Today I did lv 19, 29, 38 and 49 without one single dredge .. and I got one useful drop (of course in lvl 19 because why would you do lvl 49?): asc zerker helmet
It would be nice to have more of a system behind the fractal rolling instead of just RNG. 5 people who didn’t get dredge the last few times in one group gain +50% to get dredge
Well, not yet.
I don’t think /deaths means that much. I died over 4k times on my main. Sometimes being dumb as kitty and sometimes doing bullkitten (jumping off of cliffs) lol. Mostly because I’m a very bad player of course (sigh PUGs)
I start to feel a lil bit uneasy about how kitten much data they collect lul
(edited by Acerola.6407)
Arenanet again proves that they’re a pretty weird company. They’re starting to compete with Nintendo in regards of “I don’t understand them anymore”. As I’m lazy, I’m copy&paste my view on this from reddit:
Arenanet has extremely weird views on things in their game. Like, very weird. I can’t believe that anybody in the world would be EVER bothering with repair costs or re-trait costs as they’re just that low. I mean … I can keep wipe over and over again in fractals or whatever and pay maybe 11 silvers or so lol. There always should be SOME consequence when dying. There is nearly none in this game.
But I guess they have much more data than I have with my assumptions here …
Champ box gold nerf is fine I guess. I think Anet wants to get champ farmers into other areas of the game to make gold.
I really don’t like the fact that there is no consequence for dying anymore. I mean, why bother trying to survive if it doesn’t change anything?
I bet you’d die trying to do so.
Oh dear, I feel your pain.
I’ve been lucky with fractals the last few days, haven’t seen dredge in 49 for days now.
this is trolling right
Hmmm, I think I went down once or twice there. The second time I was downed was the moment I got kicked.
But seriously, when I’m the only one in melee range while everyone else (2 guards who should give me protection instead of ranging) ranges, it’s harder for me to survive with nearly 100% aggro and obviously they don’t die if they run around the entire room. I was the only one with scale venom so weakness was only due to me proccing it and my warhorn. As I said, I’m not the best player and this was the first lv49 after a fractals break, but at least I try to improve and and don’t AFKontent’ing that boss. The run was absolutely fine until then and I can’t think of anything I did so horribly wrong beforehand that I landed on the “I am about to kick you”-list. The fact that I did a Lv49 with a better, partly premade group afterwards with NO ISSUE where people were meleeing a good amount of % of the fights (we got Cliffside for the 2nd fractal again and I was telling them I was kicked for meeleing the last boss which gave everyone a good laugh) instead of ranging 100% tells me that it was allright.
I really hope these guys got dredge after kicking me xD
(edited by Acerola.6407)
He’s really not that hard. I seem to be lucky with PUGs lately, but if you have enough DPS and dodge his jump (first hit on landing is a knockdown, after that comes damage) everyone should be fine. This is also a very good boss to just get some practice.
I like that change despite the fact that anet does not tell us in the patch notes and that he still drops AC tokens.
My fractal character is a full ascended berserker warrior, too.
you have to be cautious with PUGs though. Yesterday, I was kicked out of a lv49 cliffside fractal (2nd frac) because I got hit sometimes WHILE BEING THE ONLY ONE meele’ing the last boss. So if you see ranged only heroes, just leave.
Thank you for your comments. I tried to do arah path 1, again. I read wiki, watch some videos, to understand how to deal with it. But after another 2,5 hours trying, we cant make it.
Hmm … with what people do you play? It seems you / the other players are geared awfully / just bad.
There are missing like 3 waypoints. Its really sad how this game works. U can tryhard, u can sweat blood and u get nothing. U lose more golds for repairs than u get. If u already have exotic gear, with stats u need, u dont need to waste hours to clear all other dungeons. This game is noob unfriendly.
This game is extremely “noob friendly”. One of the casual-friendliest games I know (just look at open world content …)
Anyway, thank you again for great feedback. I will try to learn all other classes, so i can increase my skill in pvp. And I leave pve to more skilled players…
PVE is partly about memorizing the encounters and about situational awareness. You have to learn tells and stuff so you can avoid damage etc.
I just pugged him.
It’s so much funnier than before. I hope PUGs won’t safespot him any time soon.
This is a very bad change in my opinion. I’m coming from a PVE/dungeon perspective and I really don’t like it as player have even less things to do in the dungeons after this patch. Switching weapons all over the place during a run was a great part of the fun for me. This simplifies the game in a negative way. It was just an option and you take it away …
But that’s neither an AI issue nor exploiting. It’s knowing how she works. She still uses strong melee attacks which she wouldn’t use if everyone was in ranged mode.
Tell me which encounter makes the boss less effective when we are stacked?
And DO NOT say spider queen.
The reason it’s repeatable is that there is an achievement which people probably don’t get the first time.
Why do you say that it IS fun? (I don’t mean that you have to put a “in my opinion” behind every opinion, of course) That’s subjective! Furthermore, people do know what to do (by now at least), so that argument falls flat.
You always have to know what to do before you go into a dungeon (meaning: you always have to learn certain mechanics which is true for all dungeons), even the farmed ones. Nobody went into CoE the first time, pushed Alpha against a wall and destroyed him like it is done today.
I wanna quote Nike from DnT as he just nailed it for me 2 months ago:
“TA ather path is hardly done because they confused dungeons with guild puzzles. Many other named dungeons have a small puzzle section in them (cof 1 flame braziers, TAFF bubble room) that never verge on annoying, with the exception of some of Arah p4.
However, TA ather path has 3 puzzles that are long and annoying as well as boss fights that substitute puzzle mechanics for actual mechanics. This is why it isn’t done. People want more bosses like Lupicus, or bosses that resemble the Orrian Temple bosses, not bosses like Mecha Oakheart that substitute a puzzle for interesting combat mechanics.
That is the result of Living Story developers designing a dungeon: you end up with a dungeon based around things that open world PVErs enjoy (puzzles, cluster kitten chaotic ranged fights) as opposed what makes a dungeon good.
People ran Arah hardcore for over a year when it had the worst rewards of any dungeon because it was the right kind of challenging and it rewarded practice and skill. They could give Ather path the best rewards in the game (hint: it already does) and people still wouldn’t run it since the encounters are so dismal.
This, incidentally, could be avoided if Anet allowed members of the dungeon community to alpha test things the way they allow members of the WvW/PvP community to do so. It wouldn’t have taken many hours of alpha testing with some of the more serious dungeon guilds before we informed them that Ather path was complete garbage."
(edited by Acerola.6407)
Because Mario Party is MUCH better at Minigames.
And … Guild Puzzles do exist outside of dungeons. Why putting them into one?
And it’s unrewarding. The only reason to go in there are the skins which are very unlikely to drop.
It’s way too long.
The mechanics make you BABYSIT the bad AI of this game. (that has nothing to do with “teamwork”)
The sparky and forgot his name-fight is quite funny, though, but still just a zerker DPS race.
Joined a TA up PuG.
I saw a 14k AP ranger and thought “Cool, I bet he brings spotter, spirit and plays melee only!”
Haha, no. Legendary longbow with bear only.
Howdy all,
Hey.
I think one of the reasons this thread appeared is the lack of communication. Many of the regulars here who post, record and report these issues are frustrated by the fact that they don’t get much love. It’s literally screaming for attention and they won’t get that by sending all the issues to the e-mail or posting in the bugs-forum as it seems (otherwise, we had more communication).
But you posting here is definitely a beginning, so I hope we can further improve the communication between devs and players regarding dungeons.
Yeah, I have the same issue. My PC isn’t the best anymore, but I’m fine in most of the dungeons. I don’t have much FPS when there are heavy “smoke shaders” (swamp fractals, SE, CoE p3). In Arah, I don’t get more than 10 FPS no matter the graphic settings for whatever reason
SE p3 – safe spot for first boss on that rock thing, annoying when ranged randoms wanna do it that way
A DPS race without strategy and control is a recipe for a party wipe.

It’s a huge zerg fest. But I guess that comes with the fact that this game still has too many players.
You really think Guild Wars 2 has much players? Because I don´t…
You don’t have eyes and you lack a brain, then.
now imagine it was a 20-40 “raid”-like instance
i bet it would be so much better
but seriously, I don’t get this, anet.
The last updates were all about how to not make the game a boring zerg fest again. the new jungle wurm has things to split zergs and to make the zergs DO something organized … the marionette had a zerg-character only in the defend-area and these were splitted into 5!
So why are we back to mindless zergs now? why?
It’s a huge zerg fest. But I guess that comes with the fact that this game still has too many players.
On the other hand, a few of the (seemingly very grindy rewards) are looking good and Lion’s Arch is looking stunning in this state, too
As Arenanet does not care about dungeons, these poor vendors will be either untouched (forgotten), working just like now or deleted completely.
Did you realize they were using the new Warrior heal skill, Defiant Stance?
MMO mobs using player skills now? Sounds Legit.
Back to my tower defense game.
That’s actually very good. GW1 is evidence for that.
Standing not 100% correctly can cause the Spider to not come into the corner so the players won’t push her into the wall but the other way around so it gets harder to dodge her attacks and one player being just an inch too far away can cause her strong AOE which will kill everyone in this small place. If there were still small spiders, those might positioning themselves in a way the players cannot cleave them without moving, making the encounter harder as the spiders hit pretty hard after reflections are gone.
But yeah, it’s pretty harsh to kick you for this lol.
When the spider was already in the wall correctly, I don’t see a real reason for not moving just a little bit backwards (which actually don’t help you anyway). Maybe they feared getting the AOE. Just stupid folks.
It might be the case that these PUGs were those people who always stack behind corners, using LoS without actually understanding how LoS works, so everytime they LoS Alpha behind a pillar and push him out or so the do not break the LoS again because they think sticking to that one spot is everything you have to do which is dumb

Hey everyone, just dropping in to let you know that we have identified the issue. A fix will be coming with one of the upcoming Living World releases.
Is a fix coming next living story-patch already? I really hate this bug xD
(demonstration)
not as bad as expected.
some things are weird, but the nerf on healing signet was a must anyway.
2h weps with 2 sigils, yeah!
I really fear the rune-changes though. Don’t kitten with my scholar runes.
atse, it’s already proven (video evidence) that you can do zero dodges in Arah when geared the correct way, even as an ele.
So we shall switch to those builds now? because it’s easier and 10 times slower?
Nike & Co, quit your jobs and be heard in that CDI, please.
No, not really. The only thing that could be interesting is the huge robot which kinda looks like a map-wide raid-fight (of some sort). But it’s temporary so I bet it’s going to be a messy zergfest.
The worm … well yeah, new hard bosses are cool and stuff,, but I doubt he will be really good. I bet he’s stationary … great! And the rewards will be off as usual.
And there doesn’t look to be more to the update, so no, I’m not looking forward to it. Arenanet finally made me not looking forward to SOMETHING in a new patch. But they finally did it. I congratulate them for further destroying their game and ignoring entire communities.
Keep the quality up, Arenanet. I’m going to try the coming 4+1 updates and if I don’t get hooked again, I’m gone, with a tearful eye as this could’ve been a great game.
look how toxic those elitists are
1. No. Warrs have much vit and you have extra dodge with GS and you can get your endurance back
2. I wouldn’t recommened it.
3. Yes. You learn to play this way then.
4. No.

RIP dontain neva 5get,,
“does anyone know if this build still kinda works or not? ?”
> “it never did” (posted a few seconds ago)
lol. you barely see the truth that early in the comments
(at least he knows what combos are)
(edited by Acerola.6407)
There is still hope that this is something from the past or even an April fool’s joke …
if not, though, I’m honestly shocked by the direction Arenanet is heading since the start of 2013. That would be too much for me to stick with this game, unfortunately. So much potential.
