Mystic Stones
Blade Shards
Vision Crystals (both kinds)
Doubloons
Tenebrous crystals
Shimmering crystals
Milling basin
Amalgamated gemstones
Doubloons

Blood rubies
Petrified wood

And I agree with this person who said
- philosopher’s stones
- mystic crystals
although I have so many spirit shards, wasting these by deleting the extras isn’t a concern for me personally.

And for me, the things that I wish to keep but clog up my inventory the most – the things that would benefit me (and my kids on their accounts) the most if they were out of my bank – are tonic and other consumable bundle items: rotten eggs, toilet paper, . My kids could actually keep and use them.

My son Jonathan, 7, loves both Guild Wars 2 and Legos. He was originally inspired by playing through Living Story Season 2, and created two structures that had been attacked by Mordremoth.

Then, when he found out Anet was looking for submissions to the Wintersday themed community spotlight, he redid the pieces with some Wintersday flair

PS yes, he has his own account. I’m not posting under it because he’s a minor and I don’t want the account to be public knowledge. Secondly, I am going to ignore any negative comments on my parenting style that are based solely off the knowledge that my kid has an account and plays on it. Heard all the arguments, dismissed them, gonna ignore you, don’t waste your breath.

Just in response to the previous two, to clarify the bug for anyone at Anet or anyone else experiencing it, he didn’t have the little up-arrow above the skill that allows you to select another skill, at all. Like when you’re in combat, you don’t see the up-arrow – his was like that at all times, even out of combat.

Suggestions for Engi Gyro improvements

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Adelas.6598

The Engi gyro functionalities are really cool. The graphics are really cool. I am feeling really positive about them – EXCEPT – they aren’t where I want them to be.

The healing one in particular can’t keep up with me, and with the static, timed discharges, I found it kept putting down the heal field RIGHT BEFORE it was within range, and I would have to run back to stand in the field. Not good when I was trying to run away from something

At first, I was just thinking their movement speed needed to be 100% faster so that they could be sure to keep up with me. A friend suggested that they should just work like auras or traveling fields, and the AI be dropped, and that inspired THIS idea:

It would be really cool if the friendly gyros could be placed on a friendly player as a traveling-field-centered-on-the-player in the style of Reconstruction Field or Defense Field (but with the graphic of the gyro flying around within the field, so it looks like it’s autonomous). This would be placed on the targeted party member or friendly player IF someone was targeted, and would default to the casting engi if nobody was targeted.

HOWEVER, the significant difference here would be that the “trigger” skill would tell the gyro to switch targets, instead of self-destructing early. The gyro would fly over to the alternate target and stay on them until it timed out or was redirected again.

So here’s a more concrete example.

Bookah Britches, our asura engineer, is running around with his revenant buddy Manifest Agony. Poor little Agony is taking lots of damage, so Bookah targets her, and throws everything at her: a Bulwark and a Medic and a Purge gyro. The gyros appear at Agony’s location and follow her around as she attacks. Suddenly a foe appears and begins applying torment to Bookah. He drops target from Agony (or just targets a foe, instead). He clicks on the Sneak gyro and it appears on his location. He clicks on the Purge gyro “trigger skill” icon, and the gyro/field moves across the field to him, stopping when it is centered on him, and then follows him around until the gyro times out.

So that’s my idea. This wouldn’t need to apply to offensive gyros.

And FWIW, I do think they need to move faster, too.

[Ninja Edit: So, this got solved on Reddit – apparently you had to level up to 11 to re-unlock your utility skills – but I think folks need to know about it]

One of my guildies has a really strange problem.
He recently created a ranger, which now is level nine – and today his heal skill completely disappeared off his bar, and he cannot select any heal skill to put into the bar. It appears fine in PvP, only broken in PvE.

  • originally equipped/disappeared skill was We Heal As One
  • same in cities and in other zones
  • not a beta character
  • not transformed
  • no buffs other than the PvP call of the mists
  • not carrying a bundle
  • weapon appears properly
  • going into downed state does not help
  • being killed does not help
  • zoning does not help
  • zoning into a city does not help
  • switching characters does not help
  • closing the game entirely does not help
  • he has a paid account (owns HoT)
  • he has a level 80 character on the account (so account unlocks should be open)

That Raven Shaman norn outfit is SO beautiful. +1 would pay 800 gems for that.

I would also kill for that male human blue robe set fourth from the left, the super detailed green corset top next to him, the charr top second from the right, that super fancy multicolored asura outfit, and basically ANY of the sylvari stuff.

Regarding faces, I would also love it if we could create characters across different races that resembled each other a little more. How about a sylvari with a square head that is more norn looking? Norn haircuts available for Asura?

I would dearly, dearly love to make my sylvari Marjoram Delaqua match her namesake, but there is not an updo with bangs available for sylvari (only the ponytails), nor are the sylvari female faces conducive to reproducing Jory’s asian eyes/epicanthic folds.

To state up front: I want to try and make some of my characters match each other.

It seems logical that, after interacting, some of the races might enjoy emulating each others’ hairstyles. In particular, I bet there would be a rush for people to copy the hairstyles of Destiny’s Edge 1.0 and 2.0. Humans or Norn with Taimi’s insane bow or Sylvari with Marjory’s updo-with-flowers or Asura progeny deciding that being an epic hero would be cool and copying Eir or Braham’s hair?

=====

Also, I really wish there were some more classy men’s ponytails for nobles/lords rather than warriors per se – with the shininess and curl of this: http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/gw2-april-14-new-hairstyles-human-male-2.jpg but long. Well, I know hair styles are a common suggestion, but I figured I’d still throw this out there.

From Reddit:

>You should be able to switch attunements during overload without interrupting it. Often I’ll REALLY need that heal from switching to water but I can’t do it while overloading.

>WAY too easy to interrupt. Every overload should give a couple seconds of a single stack of stability during the second half of channeling, or have a break bar.

I second these statements. If I am investing 5 seconds of wait time, plus 20ish seconds of cooldown time, in a major skill that has to be channeled, it is really discouraging to get interrupted, or worse yet, to interrupt yourself by needing to move out of a field or dodge.

I’d love to see the overloads become an instant-cast, “background” skill that allows me to continue on my merry elementalist way doing other stuff while the overload happens. Even if it lengthened the attunement cooldown to like 30 or 40 seconds, even if you had to trait for the instant cast (choosing between that and reduced cooldown).

I traited my tempest in fire, arcana, and tempest, with scepter/warhorn and the celestial gear, and found that in PvE

  • when I was in fire attunement I was unstoppable. As soon as I swapped out to try the other things, my DPS seemed to go WAY, WAY, WAY down. Part of this could be that I just don’t know the scepter skills (user error), but I definitely felt like when I was in water and earth, in particular, my HP just drained away. As soon as I swapped back into fire, I killed everything like crazy. I did trait the +10% dmg in fire trait, but this was wayyy more than 10%.
  • I didn’t like the shouts. I think part of this was because I was playing solo, and I needed DPS more than I needed CC or boons. They sound fine, but I just didn’t feel like they were helping much in my solo play.
*I kept trying to do water overload as my health was approaching zero and I wouldn’t be able to get it cast/channeled and would get downed.
  • The warhorn skills’ cooldown was too long. I also wish the warhorn skills were stronger offensively. I feel like fire 4 is a completely useless skill with a too-long cooldown. I can stack might other ways.
  • I wish the earth shout would give me a block instead of just magnetic aura. I do understand auras are kind of central to some builds, but I wish I could block melee attacks and not just projectiles with this skill.

Adelas.6598

Hearing my own voice is probably the most thrilling part. Like others have said, I didn’t really think it would matter, but it changes the whole feel of the story for me.

I like gliding and can’t wait to get the next mastery level!

The adventures are cute, although I was surprised to find that they were one-action mini-games that lasted under 5 minutes. I dunno exactly what I was expecting, something more adventurous and involved, but regardless, I could see myself whiling away some down time by trying to blast more tendrils or something. It would be nice if there were more levels, or if you could get additional skills by getting higher levels.

(E.g. have any of you played Kass Basher on Neopets? [NOSTALGIA ATTACK!] you start out hitting him with a baguette, and if you are skilled enough and hit a certain point threshold, you can move up to using a stick which hits him farther, and once you hit the point threshold with the stick, you get an actual bat, which allows you to hit him the farthest! I’d like to see gold mastery of the adventures provide something cool like that, so I have something more to work towards.)

I normally don’t play my necro, because I haven’t found a build that fits my playstyle. Well, GS+shouts did it for me. I main an ele, but I only spent about an hour playing tempest because I started out on Reaper and just kept going back to it over and over. I know lots of people are concerned about the DPS and/or attack speed, but it felt good. I liked the functions of the skills.

[Suggestion] Trasmutation stones for beta

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Adelas.6598

Adelas.6598

Thats right. I forgot they gave us partial map completions with this beta. I guess he could spend time making and deleting chars for this to farm charges, instead of playing the beta and trying out different builds.

You may not have understood. The cities had FULL map completions. Simply zoning in would grant you a bunch of XP and the transmutation charge; depending on how long it took you to load the zone, it should take under five minutes to grab the six charges.

I do get what you’re saying, too, (charges are not game breaking and on a beta character there’s no problem granting a lot more of them), but on the other hand, since you get enough free charges for one full outfit for each character, it’s something the devs already sort-of put in place for us, and I suspect they have other concerns on which to focus their programming power.

If the devs ARE going to look at the stuff we have available, I’d love to see the “box of armor and weapons” thing turn into a “box of armor and weapons-usable-by-your-class”, because it is SUCH a drag to delete all the extra weapons from all three of the boxes. And as far as that goes, it would be so nice if they were different skins. i.e. the first stuff you have is the pearl weapons, the first box holds bandit weapons, the next box holds destroyer, the last box holds… i dunno what else there is, krait?

The point is that all the icons would look different. I used up my transmute charges not because I wanted to look pretty, but so that the icons for my carrion gear would all match, cele gear icons were a different look, etc. That made it a lot easier for me to swap gear sets from my bag instead of laboriously scrolling over identical icons to determine what stat set they belonged to.

I’ve never been a fan of mesmer simply because I’m bad at playing it. I don’t know the right skill combos and I’m not great at positioning and stuff. That said, I tried out Chronomancer this weekend because I really liked the idea and it looked straightforward on the POI. Well, the latter was silly, because of course it did, but that doesn’t mean I could play it in active combat! STILL… Here are my thoughts.

I can’t remember what I had my traits set as. I ran only in PvE, with scepter-shield and staff most of the time, and also tried with greatsword.

  • I loved hearing the wells clicking and clanging during combat. The sound effects – and visuals – were very cool.
  • Like is often the problem with signets, the icons for the wells are so similar I couldn’t remember which one did what. Also, they all do so many things, I might remember one function of a given well, but totally forget about the second or third functions. I’m not sure how useful that feedback is, but if nothing else, I wish the icons made the functions clearer.
  • I liked what the F5 skill did, although its location above F4 was really weird looking, and I personally didn’t find any cool uses for it. I just used it to double up all my skills. I look forward to people sharing some “recipes” for skill combos with it once things are finalized.

“The flamethrower is really hit-and-miss. It appears there is a sweet-spot that you need the tendrils to be in for the flamethrower to count, but its non-obvious. Sometimes tendrils get burned when they don’t appear to be in range, sometimes tendrils stay alive when it looks like they are getting a good torching. "

I did the tendrils and the salvage, and this was the biggest part of feedback that I had.

The only other thing I’d mention is that I only discovered the speed mushrooms were usable by accidentally hitting F near one – I thought their use was locked behind mastery points and never actually tried to use them.

The animations are beautiful.

I really like dwarf legend and mace/axe skills – by which, I mean they are useful and “feel good” to use, plus I just like looking at them.

Hammer is good as well, although it feels like it should have more damage. Something is just really satisfying about smashing things with a big ghost hammer. The hammer projection leap, btw, enables you to pick up an aoe boon from a friend 1200 away, and to train melee mobs away from your actual location. I didn’t realize that until a guildie pointed it out. Pretty slick.

The ventari legend is great for a specific purpose (dungeons, pvp, wvw) even though I doubt I’ll ever use it when mapping or solo adventuring.

Overall I like the class and I’m going to like it a lot better when they add more DPS!

I’ve seen this before too. I think it’s because the UI doesn’t register clicks while its being updated (which it does whenever someone else’s click is registered). I’ll ping Evan about it.

Wanted to point out that I’m still encountering this issue. I solve by double and triple clicking on my chosen map… after the single click doesn’t work. (because I always fall for it, trying to single click first)

That said, please keep giving us styles like this, ANet, a lot of us have been wanting stuff like this for a while. (Male sylvari body glow and Norn tattoos always get hidden!)

And also, like someone else said above, now that we have this, adding something Conan-esque would be SO nice. Especially if it was a line of actual armors that can be mixed and matched.

[Suggestion] 1-per-acct gem items as gifts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Adelas.6598

Adelas.6598

I could have sworn I saw this discussed before, but maybe it was on reddit – nothing came up in search.

So, I have two accounts. Plus, my husband and my kids have accounts – five total in our household. We would like to be able to make one gem purchase and get items for multiple accounts using those gems, because of the way that you can only purchase gems (for real money) in increments of 800. Unfortunately, a lot of times, the items that we want to gift to the other accounts are un-gift-able.

SPECIFIC EXAMPLE.

The quaggan mail delivery guy is 500 gems. I already have 200 left over from the LAST time I had this problem. So if I purchase 800 gems with $10 cash, I would have the right number of gems to buy quaggans for my two accounts. However, the quaggan is not giftable. So I have the options of:
(1) buy 800 gems on each of two accounts, for $20, and have 500 left over on one account and 300 left over on the other account after buying the quaggans.
(2) pick only one account to have the quaggan, for $10, and have either 500 or 300 gems left over that I can’t buy anything with until I spend more gems.
(3) live without.

I have read somewhere that the reasoning behind the restriction could be to prevent doubling up of the item on a given account, but I’m hoping that there could be some way to implement a check as the item is being sent, to prevent that kind of error, and enable the gifting of those one-per-account items.

Also, I would be up for a permanent account connection process that would allow shared gems between them…. if that became a thing. Even if I wouldn’t want to do it with my family members, I could do it with my alt accounts.

I ended up on the other end of the OP’s seesaw all last week.

I had the best week I’ve ever had in PvP, winning 1v1s against classes that normally thrash me. In virtually every match I was solo queued, ended up with pugs against sometimes pugs and sometimes partial premades, and in every single match, we were down 50-75 up until about 300-350 points, when we suddenly pulled forward and won by anywhere from three to 75 points. It was exhilarating. My husband was going crazy because I kept logging off at bedtime all pumped up and wanting to ramble about my awesome matches.

on the other side: Please recall that the other player might not know you are heading to rez them. I (semi-noob – dolyak level) generally go under the assumption that I am not going to be rezzed, even if I see a teammate coming over to the point. (If I was at a higher level I might change my assumptions, but for the most part I’m accompanied by other less experienced players like myself.)

As an ele main, that frequently means that if there is a fight going on, I’m probably going to scoot off the point in the hopes of distracting/luring away one of the fighters temporarily, giving my teammate a chance to finish off the other one, and/or possibly allowing my teammate to neutralize/cap a point while the enemies (presumably also of my level) are following me.

Also, when I’m there alone, I’m probably focused on my health bar and taking care of myself in the last stages of being downed. I’m not looking at the map at that point. I have gotten griped at by teammates who were nowhere near me until I got downed, and who expected me to know that they were running across the map to rez me after I got 2v1’ed.

Granted, this is irrelevant if you’re standing in front of your teammate’s camera (which might not face the same way as their corpse), rubbing the ground, and their health is going up, and they do something dumb. But if you can ping the heal/rez/emergency skill in /team chat, or type rez inc or something similar, that might help your teammate sit still and let you do what you’re planning.

Is there a way to confirm whether you’re on the correct newsletter list?

I do receive a newsletter from GW2 periodically regarding releases. As a matter of fact, I have two accounts, plus both my kids’ emails forward to mine, and I subscribe to the twitch stream and get at least 3 emails from that per week, so I am not sure which of the accounts is still subscribed to the proper gw2 newsletter and which ones aren’t. I could just go through and re-subscribe them all, but good lord receiving 4 copies of the same email plus twitch notifications 2-3 times a week just doesn’t appeal.

So back to the question (maybe Gaile can answer?) if I am getting emails from gw2 about living story releases, and whatnot, is that the correct list to be on? is there somewhere in my account that i can verify whether i [as in, my main account] am signed up for the newsletter?

his point seems to be that he would have preferred it to come a bit earlier and to have provided a bit more information about when they feel the patch might be released.

While I think you can definitely debate whether the level of communication presented was adequate, I don’t think it’s accurate to respond to his post as though he was complaining about the actual delay itself.

Haha you took that analogy in a very weird direction, but I see your point. However, it IS possible to feel bad for the sick guy (Anet) and still be bothered by the inconvenience. The one thing your analogy is missing though is that in a grocery store we can SEE them opening other lanes. We have a general idea of how long it will be before we can pay and leave. In this case, we the players have no way of knowing when this patch will be ready. Could be a day or two, could be a month or two, who knows. That’s what people are frustrated with.

I suppose my analogy could be improved by saying that the store manager had taken a minute to walk away to the phone and/or text other employees to come back from lunch early, so you might be aggravated because it looks like nothing’s happening.

Still, my biggest points are – it’s just camera and stability. It’s not like there was going to be CONTENT in this patch. The timing on when it comes out is so not important, I can’t even express it – so it doesn’t matter whether they tell us or not.

And sure, it’s possible that someone just forgot a closing bracket in the code, and they could just say “it will take two people, working at a pace of 12 lines of code a minute, 17 work hours to check every line of the code and find the closing bracket before we can release this, so count on Friday for release”, but it’s also possible that the camera was completely re-worked and they need to come up with a total replacement for one of the processes because telling it to check XYZ data before calculating and returning ABC data can make the entire game seize up, and they have to re-write that entire sub-process, which could take 90 man-hours and delay the patch until April. In other words… They might not KNOW how long it will take to fix. (and so they can’t tell us when it will be ready.) (From a post on reddit:

I obviously can’t speak for GW2’s engine specifically, but I certainly wouldn’t discount or underestimate the complexity involved in coding a camera. It’s one of the heavy lifts when it comes to math in video game programming . )

And although I too have posted on these forums about communication overall, I feel that they provided a satisfactory amount of info:
1. they told us what was going to be in the patch ahead of time, and gave a timeframe
2. when they realized it couldn’t happen, they notified us prior to the patch
3. they gave a reason why it was being delayed (QA problem) – and stated that they don’t know how long it will take to fix.

The issue wasn’t that things were delayed or abandoned. The thing was that things were delayed or abandoned without telling us or giving indication as to why.
Also, this thread is good, but it has come basically a day in advance, and without actually giving a basic time frame for when the patch might eventually come. That’s about as bare minimum a level of communication as you can have without simply ignoring the issue altogether. I am appreciative of the thread, but it comes with a feeling of “I have to be nice about this or they might go back to zero communication again, and last minute minimal communication is at least slightly better than what they were doing before.”

What would you be doing differently if the patch was coming out today? Does having it today or tomorrow or next week make a hill of beans worth of difference in how you are planning your life and/or game time?

Also, they clearly stated that they need more QA testing on it before it can be released. In other words, something isn’t working quite the way it’s supposed to, and they don’t want to release it without being sure it will work correctly. There are no assumptions there, that is what Gaile said, translated for you.

However, you CAN infer that the thing that is not working is game-breaking in some way, whether it’s glitches/crashes, or exploits. Would knowing exactly what KIND of game-break they’re dealing with make a difference to whether you think it’s reasonable for them to delay the release of the patch? Whether it’s a problem with stability, a weird visual glitch with the new camera system, or something as specific as “a crash-to-desktop when someone uses the first person camera when wearing twilight arbor light jacket and arah light pants while wielding the silly scimitar and shattering clones inside of a necro’s dark field at the same time an ele is blasting a fire field”…

if a game-breaking issue was discovered just prior to release, that’s really all the info we need to know.

If it was an exploit, it’s probably better that we don’t know the details.
If it was just a bug or crash, but one that happens to be game-breaking… knowing the details doesn’t matter.

As far as the rest of what you said…

Conscious delay of the release precursor crafting and SAB are not on the same level as this type of emergency-fix delay. Conscious delays are like going to a grocery store during a rush of customers and they only have a couple checkouts open because some of the cashiers are working on stocking. This patch delay is like going to a grocery store and having to wait in the checkout lane because the cashier suddenly came down with food poisoning from his lunch, vomited on the conveyor belt and they’re moving everyone to another lane while this one gets cleaned up.

Instead of complaining that you have to switch lanes, how about a little sympathy for the guy that puked in front of everybody? He’s embarrassed, sick, AND probably going to lose a day’s pay because he has to go home.

Gaile, sometimes I can’t believe the entitled attitudes that people have. Please rest assured that some of us realize devs are human, that we realize a delay in release means you were actually doing QA testing and making sure everything works properly, and that we appreciate you wanting to release a working product, even if that means a delay.

Thank you for keeping us informed. I’m really looking forward to the changes, and I’m prepared to wait until they are ready. <3

They don’t add cool animations and effects…

FWIW, and I’d have to watch the whole video again to find it, but I could swear the devs in the poi video said that they WOULD be adding those cool animations [to the UI at least, if that’s what you’re referring to by animations]

Same – I have Verizon FIOS here in the Dallas area. Excellent connection, can do everything else fine, stream netflix and amazon constantly, etc. My husband normally can stream video while I play the game on high graphics with just medium FPS stuttering in zergs or world bosses, but since this started, nothing seems to help (days when he’s not streaming on the TV, etc). Plus, the game is a fresh complete download right before this issue started.

Your topic has more posts than mine… https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/members/Adelas-6598 in case a dev wants to merge them.

Update: clientport 80 is not working. In fact, I was not only skill lagging but it increased to include actual rubberbanding and disconnect every couple minutes in the past few days.

Gonna try again with port 443, but if anyone has another option for how to fix this problem, I’d be grateful.

We’re planning to eventually expose character inventories via the /v2/characters endpoint (and the account bank via /v2/account) so that someone can write a webapp to locate where you put that extra stack of Superior Sigils of Wrath or Lemongrass Poultry Soup.

sobs with joy

Sounds like it’s time to bake some more cookies…

Anyway, ZeroRogue has really nailed it for me, personally, with his list of things like bank and inventory items – the only thing I don’t see in his list is achievements. Having a website or phone app that could help me keep track of achievements would be AMAZING.

1. general account achievements
2. personal story and living story completion
3. map completion – being able to check an app to see which end of Lornar’s I need on my norn vs. what I need on my charr would allow me to coordinate mapping with my friends. Wow, would that be great.

In case it’s not obvious, I’m not a programmer/dev/whatnot, but if you made this particular information available to people who ARE, so they could write sites and apps for us, I would just melt with happiness.

Healix, you are a god among men, thank you for typing that out so I wouldn’t have to look it up!

I may have to do a clean install of Windows for another reason, but I’m going to test the command line as given above (and with the alternate port if needed) just for the sake of testing it, first. Thank you so much!

I am a medium-level tech user, so I knew enough to view my firewall settings and see that gw2.exe is an allowed program.

I went to speedtest.com and it told me my ping was 23ms, download speed 30.31 mbps, upload speed 12.58 mbps. That sounds reasonable…? However, we do have several computers online most of the time (and not just now when I was on speedtest) as well as a smart TV that my husband frequently streams shows on while I’m on gw2.

If I wanted to test your suggestion, how do I run the game with that option? That is to say, I am pretty sure that I either need to change a settings file in the gw2 folder, or run it through the command window, but I would need details of exactly how to go about it. Pretty please could you clarify?

I recently saw something on here about saving separate logins with their own shortcuts and wanted to try that; I’ll look that up again, but the point is, IF I test your suggestion above and IF that fixes the problem, can I make sure that it applies to any account that gets logged into on my computer? (mine, husband, kids)

THANK YOU, I’d love to hear that it’s at my end, just because I know it’ll get fixed, versus a bug/server problem that might take a while to patch.

Hi there.

I’ve been having some connection issues. I don’t have any trouble connecting to the game, and the visuals are working just fine, but I periodically get extreme skill lag. The skill buttons will flash as if they know I hit them, but they don’t cast (no animation, no damage occurs, no area effect visuals, etc).

The strange thing about it is that I am NOT lagging overall in the game. I can see people moving and casting their skills. I play pvp with guildies on mumble and I have been able to verify that my health bar is up to date, my location is up to date, other characters’ locations are coming through just fine. It’s as if my computer is not sending the data about my skills and getting them processed at the server end.

However, sometimes after the skill lag has gone on for a little while, I disconnect, being told that the game can’t reach the login server. The weirdest part about that is that I only get booted to the character select screen and don’t have to re-log-in.

I am NOT having any trouble connecting to the TP, which often happens when there’s login server issues.

I have a fresh install of the game at around the same time this started happening, maybe 2 weeks ago, because I lost the hard drive that it was installed on and had to download the game from scratch.

My computer has had no history of trouble running the game, even in highest settings (as long as I’m not zerging in wvw). It’s a Win7 home prem 64-bit, 6GB ram, AMD Athlon II 630 (2.8 GHz), Nvidia GeForce GT 520 (1GB).

Any ideas?

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

How about this? If you spend a certain lifetime dollar amount of cash on gems (including past purchases), you get a very small bonus to your gold-to-gems conversion rate. Plus one Black Lion Claim Ticket (not scrap) as a bonus per $50 spent.

Seriously, Anet, we are giving you real life money for virtual items. Making a slight increase in the amount of virtual items that can be acquired would not hurt your bottom line.

Ohai Anet… in case you’re taking notes:

The Story Journal redo is GORGEOUS. I see flaws in the other sections (equipment panel has no room for a charr, LFG requires more clicks, etc) but that story journal idea is perfect.

Lore Journal in game = be still my beating heart.

Seeing character portraits in the guild panel would be so nice! (if it could be also turned off.) Having “what are you doing” in guild panel would be nice if there was a “nothing/not looking for company” option for people who are paired off and don’t want more in their group, or cleaning inventory, or just sitting around.

Oh, Gaile. I hope they pay you a lot. hug Some of the comments here really surprise me. I, for one, am looking forward to glutting myself on Toypocalypse with my “static” Toypo group that did nothing else all last Wintersday, and you can shout that across the building to whatever devs designed it and are feeling beat down by the comments here. :P I know that I, for one, hated working at a place where someone HAD to be there to cover holidays, and some people got screwed because they didn’t know their plans early enough. I’m hoping that you guys can all relax for the holidays without having to panic about newly released content going haywire.

Yeah, I’m disappointed that the cliffhanger isn’t going to be resolved sooner. I do think that advertising a biweekly release schedule and then inserting multiple a-month-or-more breaks has caused some frustration among the players.

Perhaps for next year (and ideally, early on in the year), a post could be put forth that details the kind and amount of content you have in the works, without giving any details about said content. E.g.: 20 living story chapters, including at least one new explorable zone, at least one new jumping puzzle, at least one armor set and at least one weapon set relating to/acquired via the LS content; four holiday celebrations [jubilee, dragon bash, halloween, wintersday], 1 each GW1 themed weapon set and armor set, four new holiday themed outfits plus half a dozen extra pieces in the gemstore, a new armor set to acquire via PvP, and four WvW seasons. I didn’t double check my numbers but that would roughly match what was released this calendar year.

If you have it in the works, mention a dungeon overhaul, new world boss, new instanced dungeon(s), new fractal(s), newly added holiday, new PvP map(s), annual QoL update…

Set up expectations for what we can absolutely, for sure, expect from you. You don’t have to tell us when, what, how many, or where, unless you are absolutely sure they will happen within the time frame in question, and not necessarily then. Then, if you deliver more than that, cool – you have exceeded expectations.

I guess that last bit is the real kicker. Transparency about your plans isn’t a problem unless things are promised that can’t be delivered. Setting up reasonable expectations so that you can easily exceed them and make the customers pleasantly surprised is a great way to get people on your side.

Over and over again, holding things too close and then dropping the news at the last moment keeps biting you guys and it prompts this drama. I don’t think you guys deserve to be harassed constantly, and I think my suggestion might be a method you guys could use to soften your hush-hush policy and thus avoid shocked [and poorly thought through] responses/requests like this thread.

New Narrative Director at ANet

Adelas.6598

Thanks Leah for all your hard work! I love how the GW1 lore was included. My favorite part of the new content overall was the cutscenes in the priory basement. Those gave me the best OOOOOOOHH moments.

My favorite part of narrative was all the little conversations we could have in the Reunion story section – adding a little backstory for Rox, chatting up Eir about Braham – basically any of the option and/or background noise conversations are so immersion giving! I loved being cheered by soldiers as “the Commander” when I walked around.

Other things. I loved the crystalline nature of Glint’s lair. Kas’s exclamation that she could understand why people joined the Priory as she saw the library. Seeing old names in the books (Vekk’s thesis!…) getting downed by Abaddon (btw his name is misspelled the second time it appears on the plaque! put a sticky note on someone’s monitor, eh?)

The march music during Reunion of the Pact is my new favorite GW2 track. My kids couldn’t stop listening to it, either I liked the guy welcoming us and the other soldiers coming in!

I agree with posters above that the last instance was very long. Doing the library and lair separately would have been ideal, time-wise.

(also the person who said we’d like to see some personal development for Faren. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.)

The lair fights were really difficult and had interesting mechanics. MORE OF THIS! Yes yes yes!!!

The new armor set is both beautiful and acquired through actual hard work, so kudos on that. I think my #1 complaint about the entire release was that the male shoulders don’t have butterfly stuff on them…. and in fact the entire armors are barely resembling the female ones. I was so, so, SO looking forward to having those butterfly shoulders on my female charr, because regardless of how the chest/pants turned out to look in the male version, at least the shoulders would match, right??!!! But… no. They are completely plain, generic shoulders. And not butterflies. That is my #1 disappointment with the whole release.

By the way, I wanted to make sure you go over and check reddit for posts, including this one in particular: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2llufv/new_narrative_design_director_leah_hoyer_is/

Noble Dress: Black underneath when running

Adelas.6598

Hi all!

I bought the Noble dress last night, because it looks stunning! Thanks for the amazing design.

After a bit of moving around in my newly dyed attire, I noticed that the underside of the dress has a black area which a) hangs lower than the dress does, when standing around, and is b) very visible when running.

I noticed this too, and assumed it was intended as poorly designed petticoats… but I think I’d like it better the other way. I don’t like the way it looks. Just my two cents.

Adopt-a-Dev for the WvW Fall Tournament

Adelas.6598

We have decided to run a special multi-week event in WvW where we’ll be changing some of the “rules” of WvW for a limited time.

This is the greatest news I’ve heard from you guys recently. Especially great is the amount of detail you are giving – despite not knowing the exact dates, and knowing that it could get moved from the target dates, and so on – admitting that it’s in progress and giving specific information for us to digest is exactly what we have been encouraging you to try.

I fervently hope that you see great feedback from this. Additionally, I hope that this will encourage you to seek feedback in a similar fashion in other aspects of the game. It seems like the freakouts have been a vicious circle: don’t tell info, tell info, freakout occurs, omg we can’t tell info or there will be freakout, don’t tell info…. I’m pretty sure you guys are scared to even tell us stuff at this point, but please remember that if we find out about it ahead of time, we have time to prepare, debate about it, get things changed if needed BEFORE you roll it out and have to waste your time rolling it back or adjusting it.

I’m also reminding you of the suggestion that has been rolling around about reusing the survey system from beta. Inserting an X% chance of triggering the survey when performing action Z, where action Z is something that you have previously received feedback about – this could be a great way to get fresh, relevant feedback about the specific aspects of the game that are having trouble. “What did you just complete? Did it work the way you expected? [yes/no/sort of] What part of it went wrong? How could it be improved?” It is particularly a great idea for this (trigger upon tick reset or upon event completion in wvw), but it is able to be applied to any other aspect of the game that you’re paying attention to.

Thanks for trusting us enough to give us this detailed info, John, and I really hope that we can continue this pattern in the future.

Can someone explain to me how a change meant for “new players” has a minimum exchange rate of 75g??? It took me months to get that much gold initially. Far longer than it took me to figure out how to multiply two numbers together to exchange gold for gems.

OMG, I completely forgot about that. QFT. I only have 110 gold right now as a dedicated vet.

And, I’m now going to start a bet how long before people remember things cost . . . mostly, multiples of 100 or 50 on the Gem Store.

Which always made me wonder why people would buy odd numbers and then be unable to use them.

5 Foil wrapped candies: 118 gems.
Bank access: 35 gems.
Total makeover kit: 350 gems.
Riding Broom: 250 gems
5 Magic find booster: 550 gems
5 transmutation charges: 270 gems
Various finishers: 500-650 gems

Purchasable amounts of gems: 800, 1600, 2800…

Tell me how those numbers on top can divide evenly into the numbers on the bottom. (okay, sure, bank access goes evenly into the biggest one… so I should have to spend $35 in real money to get an evenly divisible costing amount of bank access express items?)

Adelas.6598

Ok, guys. Some of you are unhappy about this change, I can see that. BUT… quite honestly, most of you are sort of (I hate to use the word) ranting (sorry!) instead of offering suggestions.

I assure you, the team leader told me not 15 minutes ago, they will listen to suggestions.

  • Does that mean you get everything you want? Probably not.
  • Does that mean you should suggest something? Yes, of course! Because they’re expecting player input.

So you want lower increments? Think it through and present a suggestion! You want XYZ in the interface? Post that idea. You would rather see something else? Post what you think about that other thing.

Thanks for your cool head, Gaile. I’ll admit I came in here ready to rant. The change is offensive because it pigeonholes us into buying large amounts of gems even if we don’t need or want – or can’t afford – that many.

I am truly trying to be constructive here, so I want to make clear, hopefully without ranting, that reducing the customer’s flexibility and functionality, pigeonholing their choices, is a poor way to streamline. In this case, it makes more clicks (such as the nine clicks for 375 gold example given earlier), and also reduces our ability to get what we want (such as buying odd or small numbers of gems to make a nice rounded number to buy a particular item without having leftover gems that we can’t use).

Putting 400 gems as the smallest possible amount to purchase was the most egregious error in judgement.

  • Keeping the same interface, simply make the increments smaller at the beginning and wider apart: (1?), 10, 100, (250?) 400, 2000, would solve the majority of the problem.
  • Someone suggested being able to put in how many we want to BUY instead of how much we want to SPEND [on a sliding basis, I mean, not just with buttons as seen currently]. That, to me, is the best idea of all. It clarifies the relative costs of things better than the current system, and allows us to choose how many we want.

Also important in this discussion:

  • Paying attention to the synergy between item prices and purchasable items. It’s really aggravating when things don’t come out to be multiples of each other. Why can’t the 35-gem items be 25 gems, 118 gem items (?!!!) go to 100 or 125? If some items are 1000 gems, why not offer a 1000 gem option in the cash part of the store? Why make outfits cost 700 gems but only sell gems in 800 gem chunks?

I know that from a financial standpoint, of course that’s going to be profitable for YOU, but at the consumer end, it’s not profitable for me…. and that makes the consumer unhappy. It’s aggravating to have to plan out my purchases so that I can end up without weird numbers of unspent gems for months between gem store purchases, or without having to convert some of the gems to gold at a loss, or what have you.

I guarantee, if you made $10 buy 1000 gems and adjusted your item prices to be easy multiples, you’d have people so much more willing to spend money. Outfits for 500 gems. Or if you must, 1000 gems for the first month and 500 gems thereafter (with a big red notice on the buy page, “1000 gems for this new release item; price goes down in XX days”)

  • Paying attention to the synergy between the needs and desires of noobs and vets. And I use the term “noobs” advisedly, because the level of simplicity required to cater to them is mindboggling. Clarity and simplicity in design are nice (the new design of the exchange is attractive, btw), but so many times lately you guys have been trading away convenience and reward (in the sense of getting what we want or need) in order to gain that clarity and simplicity.

Economically, being required to buy at least 400 gems at a time is not good for the customer, especially when considering that synergy I just mentioned previously. We know it’s good for you and it’s not good for us. We’re not ignorant of math. And that makes this situation frustrating.

Thanks for listening.
