There is no point to this map even existing anymore. Everything interesting or innovative is gone. GW2 introduced all this new tech, such as environmental elements and the Z axis, and PvP is stuck in the dark ages. Break pads were fun and perfectly suited PvP. It added a new element to PvP.
I want a variety of encounters, especially with an overabundance of conquest maps. Also, every map doesn’t have to be appropriate for tournament play. I want to see more utilization of environment, not less.
I liked how the JP in WvW had different environmental effects players could use against each other, like the spiked platforms and the ball of doom, and I was always disappointed such elements were integrated in PvP more, especially since opportunities to use it in WvW were so rare.
I’m very disappointed in the present state of PvP. The two modes are ininteresting, and the innovations present in PvE and to a lesser extent WvW are completely absent in PvP now.
I’ve tried doing the Into the Mists norn personal story 3 times now. Even if I don’t skip the cut scenes, it doesn’t progress after I save Valda.
Well the reason i’m irritated is because they told us that they would release the FoV on 10th of march, then they announce ON THE PATCH DAY that they are moving it.
How would you feel if anyone said that they were going to give you a snickers on the 10th of march and you were really looking forward to it, then on the same day they told you that the snickers were broken and that they will give you the snickers bar later without estimated time on the matter. Well that would make me disappointed at least.
haha maybe a very bad example but i hope you get what i’m going for xD
I’d feel pretty stoked that my biggest problem in life was a snickers bar (or game update.)
I think the audio was buggy. It sounded weird to me in the beginning of the first play through but it became apparent it was her by the end when she was talking to Logan about Caithe. Second play through she sounded like herself the whole time.
The nasty threads have become more prevalent because people are becoming angrier at the way the community as a whole is being treated, as well as many of the directions the game has taken.
Regardless, ignoring the whole customer base because a proportion of it behaved badly is not appropriate. There are many perfectly polite paying customers whose concerns should be addressed.
Agreed. Plus the SAB protesters feel cheated. They bought the Infinite Coin from the gemshop, and Anet has no intentions of re-releasing SAB. That action alone is causing these people to lose trust in Anet.
…A vocal minority’s nastiness does not justify ANet “taking their toys and going home.” ANet should be the bigger person and continue talking anyway. The trolls will be ignored, they won’t get the reaction they’re wanting, and they’ll get bored and leave. ANet’s silence isn’t doing them any favors. Throwing the baby out with the bath water is never justified, no matter how you twist it.
One of the first lesson I learned at the Art Institute of Seattle was this: Develop your rhino skin because you will get criticism no matter what you do. Some of that criticism will hurt, but it’s always up to us to determine how we react.
As I explained in another post, there are always complainers (esp. on American jobs). Every job I’ve ever been on has them. In fast food, I got customer complaints about cold food and missing happy meal toys. In medical, patients complained and tried to manipulate me when the doctor refused to issue them another Vicadin prescription. In animation, I had a teacher verbally tear me apart for having a sucky portfolio (I had too many cartoons and not enough realistic art). On a telemarketing job, I had an a supervisor that complained that I wasn’t making 10 sales a week (I was making 3 sales a week which was average for Time Warner). I had a co-worker complain that I wasn’t sad enough when she criticized me. Some of the complaints were true. Others were false. There were plenty of nasty complaints that hurt my feelings too. How did I handle it? If the complaint was true, I learned from my mistake and moved on. If it was false, I made the complainer feel as if I heard them, and I moved on with my life.
I do think the SAB announcement is a way of punishing fans, but it will come back to bite Anet financially unless they rectify it. In my view, a permanent SAB would be a quick way to make money and generate interest in the game. It also provides an alternative to those who don’t like Living Story.
They are NOT trying to punish players. When a movie studio stops releasing sequels due to diminishing returns, is that a punishment?
If the big wigs decide they want to go in another direction (or, you know, an actual direction instead of tossing things out and seeing what sticks like season 1), is that a punishment?
No, it’s business.
I don’t think anyone has taken their toys and gone home. The amount of projection is unreal. It doesn’t make sense to lecture developers on keeping their emotions in check when you’re responding emotionally and making assumptions. We were given reasons for the current discontinuation of SAB. People may not like them or agree, but there it is. We were also given reasons for the FOV. Those reasons were pretty weak comparatively but nobody would say that’s a punishment, just bad judgement.
As for SAB, as someone laid it out, their focus has been on streamlining and improving PvE content delivery, improving WvW (you can argue EotM was a misstep, but it’s one the players took part in) and turning PvP into an ESport. These are also the core features of the game.
SAB was a gag that went too far. I would argue their biggest mistake was taking it beyond April Fool’s content. They should have kept it small and limited. They didn’t. Damage done. They can either move on or sabotage the core game in an effort to make content work that ultimately wasn’t suited for the game not just in terms of story but tech. You can’t make one game successful when a game within a game gets too big, too cumbersome and too problematic. Both suffer.
They chose to focus on the game people actually bought. Some people say they want it back as is. Others want everything “wrong” fixed, and the bugs and balance issues are not insubstantial. This isn’t keg brawl or crab toss. It’s a monster. If anything, it should be released as a separate game but not at the expense of the real game.
The coin is a separate matter, and yes, distrust with the gem store is legit if players don’t receive a refund.

1) Mounts don’t have to be the status quo if they do them as bundles like someone suggested, where you get a set of skills just like when you pick up a stick. It fits right in with the game we have, and it makes them different from other games. Mounted combat has been done, but only with dragons in a few dungeons/raids in WoW that I can think of, and I for one did not think the combat was implemented well. No flying in GW2 and ground mounted combat would work well.
2) There are not horses in Tyria but there are other animals. Charr used to ride seige devourers in the original game, and we had an opportunity to control them as well. If people are so desperate for a reason we use mounts again, the recent WP problems due to the vines provides that. Tyrians may decide to use mounts in case there’s ever a problem with tech again.
3) There are already toys that are essentially mounts as someone mentioned. We also turn into siege golems or devourers in WvW. When you get right down to it, mounts are already in the game. Some players just want them expanded upon.
4) Mounts don’t have to be implemented as an all the time item. There can be a new map/maps in which mounts are used, or story missions involving mounts.
5) Mounts aren’t just a vanity item. I miss Epona in Zelda, a single player game (in which travel was similarly easy.) I didn’t earn a bunch of mounts in WoW to show them off but because I like having them. It’s my fun.

If they didn’t sic the feds on you, they haven’t suppressed your freedom of speech. Making these dramatic claims shows how out of touch some gamers are with reality. It’s one thing to be disappointed, and express disappointment. It’s another thing to trivialize or make light of current affairs.
I already have a hard time mixing and matching separate pieces. The designs are just so intricate that things rarely look right broken up, even if there isn’t clipping or rough edges. I imagine this would be even more so with the outfits…like the dragon dress. I’d definitely like more armor skins, but I don’t think some of the existing outfits are well suited to mixing and matching.
I would like them to tone down the extra bells and whistles a little. Take the light incarnate set. There’s all this extra business on the bottom part of the set for females, it just looks silly. Reminds me of a child’s artwork. They draw something really nice but if you don’t get it from them in time, they just keep embellishing until they’ve ruined it.
I miss the more simple, classic armors of the original GW.
I think the whole “SAB or Riot” thing is in very poor taste in light of current affairs.
I hope it doesn’t go viral because it will reflect poorly on the GW2 community, and gamers in general if a) we get this worked up over a GAME, and b) make light of real issues to express discontent.
Of the group that enjoyed SAB, most seemed to flood the forums with nothing but complaints about is so I think players brought this on themselves.
Look at any forum for any game sub-mode (PvP, WvW, activities when applicable) and you will find an endless string of complaints. Does that mean those modes should be removed? Hardly. No matter what content you create, in any game, some people will complain about it. There will also be some people who love that content. There may even be overlap between those groups. The fact that people complain about a game mode is really neither here nor there as far as a meaningful indicator about whether or not it should exist – it’s just an inevitable fact.
PvP and WvW are part of the core game. Those parts have to be retained and improved upon. SAB was an unrelated gag that blow up into something more. As I said, the amount of resources SAB required and the amount of negativity it generated likely outweighed how many people a) played it and b) liked it. There are multiple factors. They probably have matrices of how many people play and what they do when they play. That provides more information than the small amount of forum posters do.
I’m just saying that it’s a little late now for people to say they will be happy with it as is when there was so much vocal disappointment last time. Those people may be content with that, but there will be plenty of players who won’t settle with anything less than more/better, and that particular project may not be worth the effort it would take, especially at the expense of the core game.
History of SAB:
An employee makes a minigame on his spare time and it’s released as an April Fool’s Day gag. Some players disliked it even as a gag, some liked it only as a gag, other players wanted more.
Players are given more in the “Back to School” pack (why was it called that? I guess because some players are still school aged, but otherwise it had nothing to do with anything.)
Players complain with what they are given. Other players complain that PvE, WvW and PvP are being neglected because what began as a gag off hours became something unrelated to the base game became much bigger but not necessarily better.
ANet needs to shelve the project, and people complain about THAT.
SAB has a niche audience. However, it is not on par with other mini games like Keg Brawl because those are pretty simple bare bones mini games. It kind of turned into a beast. Personally I think the resource demands of continuing SAB far outweigh the rewards. A lot of you say you want it back as is, but do you really think the forums wouldn’t be flooded with requests to fix it or expand on it?
As the song goes, you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone. Of the group that enjoyed SAB, most seemed to flood the forums with nothing but complaints about is so I think players brought this on themselves.
First off, you weren’t deflected. That was a misuse of support. People complain about how long support responses take, and it’s because support receives too many things that aren’t legitimate support requests.
As for other posts regarding chest thumping, it just reflects poorly on the person doing it (the chest thumping.) Also, providing stats won’t discourage trolls. That’s one of the few occasions when ignoring them really will make them go away. If you know you fought hard, who cares what someone says?
It’s usually pretty obvious when it’s a numbers problem and when it’s a skills problem. When my server is steamrolling two other servers, I’m not thinking “Wow, we’re so much better,” I’m thinking “if this is what tier 2 is like, the other tiers must be ghost towns.”
As for tier 1, I can’t speak for BG and TC but JQ only has queues on Friday and occasionally during the weekend.
There are also ways to compensate for coverage, such as strategic map hopping. Also, when two servers with less coverage 2v1 the team with better coverage, that also makes a difference. In the past, a stacked server has been allowed to dominate while a less populated server finds itself on the wrong side of a 2v1.
Hopefully servers will continue/be inspired to play more strategically so stacking alone doesn’t guarantee a win.
Renamed topic because I’m worried this bug has been overlooked. I know ANet is aware of people not receiving any reward but I’m not sure if they are aware that some people do not have the correct achievement, and have not/will not receive the correct reward as a result even when the chests have all been dispersed.
So much for my theory. One of my guildmates’ achievement say 5th place (?!) and someone else says 1st like it’s supposed to, and he received the correct reward.
I haven’t received my chest either. I play on Tarnished Coast and we placed second, but in my achievements panel it says 1st.
Someone from BG said they got 4th place rewards, and JQ is getting 2nd. I think that was our standing last week even though this was the final week.
I just made a post about this, too. I think they are related. Some of those who received their chest did not receive the right reward. Also, some people received their rewards before the tournament was even finished. I think rewards are being given out based on last week instead of this, the final week.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Three-related-WvW-Tournament-Bugs
Okay, so there are a few things going on:
1) Some people received their tournament chest before the tournament was over, which means they were rewarded before the standing was even determined.
2) Some people have not received their rewards at all or received the wrong rewards. For example, someone from Blackgate reported receiving 4th place rewards instead of 3rd.
3) Some people did not receive the right achievement. For example, some (all?) people from JQ received an achievement for second even though we finished first.
It seems as though rewards are being based off the 8th week instead of the 9th and final week (I think BG was 4th the 8th week and JQ was 2nd, but BG finished in 3rd and JQ finished in first.)
That makes even less sense as JQ finished in first, not second.
To say that one server has fallen behind due to new content makes no sense because all of the other servers have the same new content.
That, and as already has been pointed out, PvEers were probably done in WvW, or sticking to EotM. That map exists to appeal to the PvErs that WvWers complain about so if WvWers are even more dissatisfied they should probably be careful for what they wish for. People criticize PvEers when they are there, then complain when they aren’t there.
Also, if you care about WvW scores and don’t like EotM, then what’s the problem?
You said yourself, it doesn’t count toward the score. Stick to WvW. Let the karma farmers do what they gotta do.
Not a single thing has been done for WvW?
Really?
First they added the rank system and the progression people requested. Then they finally came around and made it account bound like we wanted. You may not like the things they do, but they can’t please everyone, and it’s silly to think they are expressly out to hurt the game or ignore players.
It’s one game among many, not some mandatory service over which they have a monopoly and can afford to alienate customers.
As for the pavilion, which is a bit off topic, they did go overboard nerfing rewards, but it was not their most successful update. A lot of people participated, not because it was fun engaging content, it was just a mindless farm fest that hurt the game’s economy. And really, it makes even less sense to complain about karma trains in EotM since the pavilion was pretty much the same thing in terms of fast easy rewards.
In my opinion it was a mediocre patch aimed towards PvE. For example:
- Your pve gear automatically transfers on your character, I wonder if it was the opposite was made would the mob grinders be bothered by it.
- You need to have full gear equipped when most of pvp players have a lvl 2 character with 2 or 3 parts missing.
- Entire reward system is for pve – almost every single reward is some material, crappy weapon/armor or just junk that I need to sell in auction house or destroy.
.
Prior to the patch, rewards were random armor and weapon skins you may or may not want, and all you could do was salvage them to make fewer armor and weapon skins you still may not want. Now you can actually sell things you don’t want. How is that not an improvement?
Almost all my past rewards went poof because I didn’t want them and they were salvaged into mats that mostly went unused. I do wish there had been a way to be reimbursed for PvP crafting mats since they couldn’t necessarily be used up prior to the patch.
Also, the missing pieces don’t count toward stats.
PvPers also gained access to a lot of things they wanted from PvE via PvP and they don’t have to leave PvP to make gold. It was a win/win that made PvP more rewarding for PvPers and also more attractive to other players, as well.

I remember way back when GvGers said all they wanted was a space, and that they would manage their own GvG within that space. ANet gave them that space. If/when they get something more structured, what will they ask for next?
The kind of GvG they have been demanding isn’t even the kind the original had.
Also, why would OS be less ideal than WvW?
It’s a dedicated “distraction free” space that even has an arena design for spectators. It rarely has a queue so it’s easier to get guilds in. If any sort of GvG game play is happening on the other maps, it’s likely the unorganized, just for the heck of it variety because WvW is even less suited to organized GvG during a tournament due to higher incidences of long queues.
Kuper, PPT isn’t meaningless with regards to the tournament and rewards. Also, I don’t know if I agree with your “most” players. There’s many different kinds of guilds and players, and they all have different reasons for playing the game and WvW in particular. I’m a single person and my motivation changes on the daily.
I think they are pretty modest relative to GW1 achievements. They are intended to be long term goals. Tournaments provide quite a bit of points in the short term. I think it’s also disingenuous to imply they neglect WvW when they not only made EoTM to address player concerns but allowed members of the community to test it in an open beta.
Can’t say the same for PvE content, a lot of which may have benefited from similar testing…such as the Scarlet finale, which was riddled with issues on live. They also made significant adjustments to tournament achievements the second time around, to the point that some may be a little too easy to max, especially via EoTM.
I’m not saying PvE is neglected either, but as a PvXer, I think people need to remember the grass is not always greener on the other side. Some of us play in all three yards, and see this for ourselves.

I’m wondering whats going on with all these Anet employees quitting.
Business as usual?
Don’t read too much into it. Also, sometimes they come back.
Sad to see you go Allie!
Many of us have been on our servers since launch. Why should we be punished for bandwagoners?
Inconveniance for
a) winning due to bandwagoners
b) posting recruitment thread that attract the bandwagoners
Seriously?
#1. Games don’t punish people for winning.
#2. I don’t recruit…?
Quote: then add overflow mechanic like eotm
EoTM IS the overflow for WvW. That’s the whole reason it was created.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/world-vs-world-queue-improvements/
Er, so almost all of T1, 2, and 3 won’t be able to play?
50% of them can play, the other 50% should move to T6-9 to be able to play or stay in queue of T1-3, if they prefer.
Many of us have been on our servers since launch. Why should we be punished for bandwagoners?
They answered most of those questions in her secret lair and in the investigation instance a couple patches ago. The only question left unanswered is what she saw in her vision that drove her to her plan. That was answered at the end of the cut scene.
I actually knew very little about the dragon until recently. Also, people have wanted a link to the elder dragons and existing lore, and now that it’s confirmed it was connected all along, people still complain?
There’s certain commanders I’m always happy to follow in WvW. I’m also pretty sure their English is limited. I can keep up with them without being on TS. When they get a rhythm going, game play becomes fairly intuitive and we can wipe zergs bigger than we are, and switch effortlessly from defense to offense. Basically, once you know an experienced commander’s style, you pretty much know what to expect. I only ever fall behind is due to real life happening or FPS dropping, neither of which TS will fix.
I do have TS and occasionally go on, but in general, listening to gamers speak is like listening to the prattle of the dead (sorry.) I’d rather have on music. And sure, I could mute people, but if I’m muting everyone, may as well not be on TS. If people don’t want to be on TS, they don’t have to be on TS. It’s a third party program. You can make it mandatory in your guild, but you can’t make it mandatory in the game. Remember, it’s everybody’s game, not just yours.
The best thing you can do is let people know that TS is available to them and politely state the benefits every now and then. The worst thing is to harp on it and call people names, or to make TS unpleasant for those who do give it a try.
If all else fails, recruit Morgan Freeman. I’d totally get on TS to listen to him.
I don’t know why any would expect or ask for WvW specific skins, especially when they just announced they were going to make less of a divide between PvE and PvP skins (based on public demand.)
Yeah, badges should have been a prize.
No, the WvW taste was not inadequate. It’s not like the process of obtaining the achievements didn’t net you a bunch of WvW xp, too.
As for the finisher, is it possible it will be available as a prize in future seasons? If so, where’s the incentive for people who have a permanent one. I guess they could make a new finisher but dolyak makes the most sense. That, and it’s just a finisher.
As for the person complaining about them rewarding people who don’t play…you couldn’t get the chest if you didn’t get the key.
You can’t get the key without playing WvW.
For me, the chest was a bonus.
I was just happy that there were more achievement points available in WvW for a change, especially since those chests do give things like badges.
And like others have said, WvW is so imbalanced at the moment they need to tread lightly with rewards, especially since it runs the risk of further encouraging fair weather gamers to jump ship and move to another server.
With as many complaints as there were about having a season to begin with, I’m surprised people care about the reward they claimed never to have wanted (since it kind of goes hand in hand with there being a season.)
i opened a ticket on support about this and NOTHING, they don’t give any feedback to ticket or give us any attention.
That’s a misuse of support. Support is for fixing actual problems that effect playability, not for feedback. It also delays them addressing real support requests. And obviously they pay attention or else they wouldn’t be changing the armor in the first place (even though I don’t agree with the solution) but they don’t have time to respond to everyone individually.
And people wonder why it takes so long to fix bugs when support has to weed through things that aren’t even related to bugs…
Aesthetics are 100% subjective. Gear with higher stats is indisputably better than gear with lower stats. It’s basic math. There’s no unit of measurement for attractive armor because there’s no consensus on what is and isn’t attractive.
Right now the only characters whose looks I’m happy with are wearing armor available in game. I also enjoy playing those characters the most because I enjoy their appearance. Skins aren’t end game for me. End game is when I turn the game off to do something else. Either you enjoy something or you don’t, and if you don’t, why bother pursuing anything in the first place?
So far, there’s still more armors available in game than in the store. The only difference is they’ve been there since the beginning. Whether or not they are of equal or lesser quality is, again, 100% subjective.
I do have one gem shop armor. I bought the gems with gold that I earned in game.
Shiren, I dislike Trahearne because he’s dry, boring and humorless, and also because he checked out as soon as his personal destiny was fulfilled, and nobody even calls him out. Instead we’re begging him to celebrate a victory he didn’t contribute to. Technically Tybalt takes over our story for his duration as well but people love him because he’s…loveable. Heck, I even like Logan in a SMH “Oh Logan” sort of way. And he’s such a fun target for Anise.
I agree that Scarlet’s lacking in depth and there’s too many unanswered questions regarding Caithe’s secret, the other tree and the connection of the birth of the Sylvari to the awakening dragons, but the supporting cast is appealing (and much better companions than Trahearne was) and we’re seeing other preexisting story lines furthered (seriously, what is up between Logan, Anise and the Queen? I must know!)
I’d also like to know more about Scarlet’s Asuran education. Zojja hasn’t really weighed in yet (scheduling conflicts with voice actors?)
It wasn’t just a selfish stat. As a player that doesn’t frequently run dungeons, I still didn’t like having to choose between a chance of better drops and being more powerful. I like the new system. It’s fun and acquiring magic find doesn’t take away from other things. And I have been seeing a difference in drops as my magic find increases.
I forgot you could trade for the keys.
Meriem, it’s not our place to yell. We’re customers, not a parent reprimanding a child. Some would argue it’s not even respectful then, let alone when communicating with other adults. Also, I don’t know about you, but when someone yells at me, I tune them out no matter how valid their point might otherwise be.
Anyway, I agree we haven’t learned much about Scarlet but we have learned about the other characters so there has been progression of other subplots. Like, I’m curious to learn more about the tension between Logan, Anise and the queen. Plus I’m starting to enjoy new companions more and more. Marjory, Kasmeer, Rox and Braham have been a fun juxtaposition to Destiny’s Edge with their youthful energy and lack of baggage. I do hope that Scarlet’s arc will eventually reveal more about the other tree and how it relates to the dragons. Didn’t they start to reemerge around the same time as the sylvari’s birth?
There must be some connection.

Players are currently able to move before the match begins, gather and even kill during the countdown. Everyone gets frozen during the rules but those who already gathered arrows and whatever else can still attack. On the flip side, other players remain stuck even after the match begins. Somebody was actually begging to be shot for a few minutes because they were left all alone in camp while stuck.
English is an universal world language, deal with it
Easy to learn and easy to use.I think Arenanet is a rather small company, and i dont think they can afford all the kitten the playerbase is asking of them.
Actually it’s one of the more challenging languages, so challenging even native speakers often struggle with it.
In any case, the OP wasn’t taking exception to the rule, so much as how it was stated. It could have been expressed more respectfully. I was actually a little surprised since I’ve always noted ANet’s tact and diplomacy.
Regina, I’m worried this part of the OP’s post was overlooked.
(edited by Aly Cat.9415)
I don’t think experience is an appropriate reward for a number of logistic reasons, but gold would be fabulous, basically rewards akin to mini-games. More achievements would be nice, too, since you don’t get as many compared to PvE, but then people complain about PvEers in PvP. Everybody wants a thriving community, but the elitists don’t want to share the game with others.
Incidentally, I found that I enjoyed PvP a lot more when I found a profession and build that worked for me (and unless I made one by accident, it’s not even a preferred build.) The games have also been providing me with more of those great moments that make me feel like I made a difference.
Not a fan of the recent changes to immobilize, though. Right now it’s just annoying but it does diminish the fun.
I like how some of the people complaining about “PvEers” don’t seem to understand WvW themselves, unless there’s like an entire zerg just going around killing yaks when not en route to a tower or keep. I still see the usual havoc squads and still run the occasional havoc squad of one like I always do when I don’t feel like being in the lagtastic zerg (though it really has less to do with the lag and more to do with who’s commanding at the time.)
At any rate, achievements or not, it’s fun making the enemy cranky.
Why does it make enemies cranky?
If the yaks don’t get to their towers or keeps, they don’t get supply.
If they don’t get supply, they can’t repair during/after attacks or build siege…so that small havoc team or solo player is STILL helping take towers or keeps even if they aren’t presently a part of the zerg themselves. They also help break up the opponents’ zerg. When zergs fail, it’s usually less about numbers and more about players scattering and not following directions.
Personally I think PvEers would also be more likely to stick with the zerg since PvP skill matters less when there’s safety in numbers, but I usually see all the same guild tags in WvW that I always have. The bigger problem is bandwagoners crowding onto the same 3 servers. At a certain point, players have to take responsibility for our own role in unbalanced match-ups or else wait for ANet to tighten the reigns and reduce player freedom.
As for servers without queues, those alleged PvEers wouldn’t have been there otherwise so your tower taking zerg would not be bigger for their absence. At least this way more players contribute even if it’s not how you think they should.
As I’ve said elsewhere, achievements aren’t unique to PvE. They have them in PvP, too. And as someone who prefers WvW to repeating dungeons and fractals, I like being able to gear up for WvW IN WvW.
(edited by Aly Cat.9415)
GW1 had a reporting system as well that caused a debuff.
Am I the only one who feels that players using a character with a higher WvW rank ought to have greater priority in the queues? You’ve had a year to get into WvW, if you’re just getting into it now… you shouldn’t be getting in before someone several hundred ranks higher than you.
Well lets go one step further even, high rank, was able to be in pre-release goes before you, and add closed beta onto that and they get in before anyone, and the people selected from the closed beta that test new content for Anet they get in before anyone cause their that special
That, and some of us have been playing in WvW since launch but we don’t live in WvW or we switched to a different character and had to start all over, never mind all the newer players. The game is supposed to have some semblance of being friendly toward alts, casuals and new players. It’s everyone’s game. We all payed (relatively) the same box fee. The only thing the queue should be based on is when someone joins it.
As I said elsewhere, achievements are not unique to PvE. PvP has them, too. Also, the only ones that don’t involve direct WvW objectives are the JPs. I think it’s hysterical when people make fun of ruin cappers as “PvErs” when that’s where some of the best PvP battles take place.
Achievements are profitable and the more WvW has, the more I can participate in WvW to gear for WvW instead of having to do PvE content I don’t want to do.

I agree with the OP, and hope his topic is not derailed by other people making baseless accusations and insults against ANet. That’s neither helpful nor constructive.
Anyway, it’s definitely more engaging to have cast captures and promotes more strategic game play. I also hate being stuck in a circle. The maps have such a grand scale yet “good” play is limited to a few circles (not that fighting midfield was a good strategy in say, Warsong Gulch, but it occasionally made a strategic sense that it doesn’t on these maps.)
I still enjoy PvP, particularly on maps with more tangible objectives, but moving away from passive captures to something more active would be a big improvement.
People actually want a mask over 25 ToT bags?
I’m going to be honest with you guys, you’ll look at it for a week, get tired of it taking up bag space and trash it. Be happy you’re getting something other than the mask, it causes rapid hair loss.
There’s plenty of ways to get bags and only one way to get the mask. Also, I never tired of my GW1 characters’ masks. That’s part of what drew me to mesmers in the first place. I’ve been waiting for find a mask I like in this game. This is it.
Everybody is different. Just because you don’t like something or get tired of things and delete them doesn’t mean everyone is the same. A bug is a bug. It needs to be fixed. I don’t consider the work around acceptable especially since I’m pretty sure I did it on most characters last year.
Glad to see all the constructive criticism. Less happy to see the flames and recriminations. This is a good opportunity, people. Try not to ruin it for the majority.
What I like:
- I love new characters like Braham, Rox, Majory and Kasmeer. They feel whole and convincing, and I enjoy their company.
- I love seeing existing stories built upon. During August, I was really curious about the tension between Logan, Jenna and Anise. Faren is always fun (so love his role in that month’s dungeon, shame it can’t be revisited), and the minstrel and hobotron are amusing as minor recurring characters. They help make the world feel alive.
- I liked that the August update dealt with the problems facing the human race. It made sense for them to show themselves as competitive with the more technologically advanced races.
- The aetherblade seemed really cool and mysterious at first.
What I don’t like:
- Scarlet uniting all these disparate groups is a stretch to say the least, as are many aspects of her character. Shame to squander a big name voice actor on a character that the majority do not enjoy. It also cheapened the aetherblade for me.
- The lore players are actually interested in (elder dragons) has been ignored. Every time we thought something actually related to the elder dragons, well, it was Scarlet.
- The living story does not build upon the personal story, apart from a few nods. They feel like disparate systems.
- Content is fleeting and can’t be revisited.
- The world is not expanding.
What I expect:
- I want the living story to expand upon the world. I assumed it would take the place of expansions, but until new zones are opened and the greater world lore is explored in greater depth, it falls a little short.
- I don’t object to biweekly updates, but the living story needs to move at a more manageable pace. Similar to other suggestions, I’d like to see a clearer delineation between living story updates and quality of life updates/updates that don’t directly pertain to the living story.
- Maybe super fun box should be annual rather than biannual. It made sense to bring it back, but maybe it was too soon and too jarring.
- I’d like to see a balance between predictability and chaos. Basically I expect a major story arch to span a “season” (either half a year or a year) with the living story updates as “episodes.”
I used to be opposed to the idea of racial changes but that’s back when I expected the game to be more like the original. They’ve since introduced character bound progression and a grindy “final” tier of gear. Players aren’t lacking for goals to work for – I’m frankly a little overwhelmed – and player burnout won’t do the game any favors either. I really doubt players would constantly re-roll for the sake of re-rolling, and even if they did, that’s still money in the developers’ pockets.
In fact, part of what makes me sick about my norn is that I wasted a makeover kit (gem shop item) on her and still don’t like her because at the end of the day I don’t enjoy norn (that, and I can’t do a thing about the voice.) However, she was the character I’d foolishly been using in WvW AND I spent a bunch of laurels and badges on.
I still have several other characters I do like, and that I need to gear so fixing that mistake won’t make me play any less. It would actually keep me playing whereas throwing all that work away makes me ill.
Unfortunately I don’t think the tech will allow for race changes due to the pesky personal story (dunno why people are making an issue of skills, other races had race specific skills in other games that allow race changes, too.)
I think a good compromise would be account bound WvW progression and a way to make non-racial items like jewelry temporarily account bound (so that players couldn’t just swap them among characters but have to use a gem store item.)
In any case, people should be motivated by enjoyable content not grinding for gear. I acquired the gear as a necessary evil. What I play for is the living story, WvW and mini-games (also PvP but that’s a separate system altogether, and not relevant to this issue.)

Horrendous, yet not surprising considering arenanet just want your money (transmution stone profit will soar with these….vile creations)
Want me to spend money arenanet?
Then create something worthwhile with a lot of thought and effort into it and not just toss any old thing together..Again, Vile designs that make me want to puke and stop playing the game if this is what is being made…..already onto my 3rd week vacation.
I’m not a fan of the looks AT ALL but obviously a lot of time and effort went into them, and time is money. If it was some conspiracy to sell transmutation stones, why would they spend so much time and effort on designing these?
I feel bad for them that the designs were such a misfire since I’m sure they felt otherwise when they bothered to create them, but worse for me that mt GW1 mesmer is still far and away better dressed.
OP, I personally appreciate that the more recent patches have been on the thinner side. A lot of people have complained about having too many new things to do when they still have a lot of existing content to complete. It’s exhausting. I think this was clearly intended to give players a heavily requested breather. I took the time to catch up on jumping puzzles and dungeons.
I’m also not the only one playing this game so I’m not going to begrudge others their fun. SAB isn’t my cup of tea but I was happy to pass on it to play other content, and I’m happy it was brought back for those players who love it. The temporary content patches that I did enjoy may not have been THEIR cup of tea.
Also, festival, party, festive…all pretty much synonymous. I also don’t see why celebrations aren’t related to fantasy. The nature of the celebrations are certainly fantastical.
As for other comments, I don’t see why everything has to connect to one story. Wouldn’t feel like a very rich, immersing world. In fact, my biggest disappointment with the story is how so much HAS been tied together. I prefer a mixture of an overarching plot, sub plots and side plots, not everything tied together with one shiny bow. I’m not sure why anyone requesting more depth would want that either.
Why does Teq have to relate to Scarlet?
It already ties in to the existing story of the elder dragons. If Scarlet was running that show, too, then she’d really be over the top.
I’ll admit to enjoying PvP more in WoW (which isn’t even a part of the discussion), but I don’t remember getting any new content without buying an expansion…unless you count unlocking access to more raids as new content, which is still pretty slight and only relevant to a small percentage of the player base. Otherwise nothing was really added from one month to the next. Back then, I had no basis for comparison and since EQ also had a monthly fee, I took it for granted as par for the course.
With all the content GW2 has been adding for free every month or so, I feel even worse about giving Blizzard so much money for the mere privilege of playing a game I already bought (not to mention the time wasted on raiding). Yeah, a lot of the new content has been temporary but it’s the sort of thing many players were expecting when they heard about dynamic content. I think there’s a nice mix between one time, recurrent and static content to help the world feel more alive.
The permanent content is being sprinkled in here or there, and I’m starting to wonder if expansions will even be a part of their business model or if the cash shop alone will subsidize ongoing content updates.
I agree on clearer patch notes, though. Skill and trait descriptions also need to be more specific.

April’s fools is traditionally outside of the game – like here on the forums …
At least that’s what I’m used to.
Not by Anet tradition. As you can see from the other posts, they always did something special in game in the original Guild Wars. My favorite was the commando missions.
To be honest, I think this is more of a player issue than a game one.
Yes, the guild design is what enables players to guild hop, but it’s the players themselves causing guilds to “fail.”
For instance: no one uses /g chat anymore, instead using Vent, TS or in my guilds case, Skype. Why chat if you have your main members in a 25 slot vent? This creates an atmosphere of no one talking. After a while, someone sees an ad for HUGE GUILD
and reps them instead, because having that amount of players, people are bound to be G-chattingThe fact the the article concludes with “they need a dungeon finder” which would basically solidify guilds as throw-away if implemented, kind of makes the whole of the article’s complaints moot.
Human beings use systems that are available to them.
Blaming players is not the answer. Blaming the systems is the answer. Players are not going to ignore an available system.
Changing the system is the answer.
Your post is the same as saying that banks should regulate themselves. How about we change the system so bankers have to act responsible instead of leaving it up to them. It’s tantamount to asking a 2 year old to regulate themselves from the cookie jar with a open lid on the floor next to them.
How about we just give people a system that encourages guilds rather than kills them.
The article is about members hopping guilds. You’re talking about banks. Now unless you’re suggesting banks would be regulated better if members didn’t have the ability to switch banks and/or use more than one bank, I’m having a hard time following your analogy. Guild members aren’t on par with bankers using real life as an example. Guild leaders are. Members are equivalent to bank customers.
Also, systems are human created so if your argument is that humans are inherently flawed then inevitably so are the systems we create to regulate ourselves.
Any system has its pluses and minuses. Games with more restrictive guild systems already exist. This game offers a less restrictive system for which there was a demand. Personally, I’d be happy to see when the last time members were online so I could trim the fat and have a better idea of who is active or not. We have active members who also periodically represent family guilds instead, and guilds that a parent enjoys may not necessarily be appropriate for their child. To suggest removal of this feature is antisocial and against the spirit of the game’s philosophy.

I share the view that as long as there is not queue it can not be said that PvE players are taking an space to WvWvW players. PvE players who enter for completing maps or fro the JP, or players entering WvWvW just to do crafting in the BL facilities (either for crafting or for the bank) when they do not have one nearby in the PvE world, or people going to Lion’s Arch (to save waypoint expenses travel).
Another aspect of the problem -in some view- is the distraction that causes the Jumping Puzzle, it seems as if Arena.net designers did not find the game enough fun to play and they got the idea of putting JPs all over the World and in WvWvW (I think there are not JPs in sPvP). My suggestion, take JPs out from the adventuring maps and bring them to the capitals, this would have two effects, in one side designers would have to think out how to make actually game-play to be fun and in the other side JPs would bring life to the deserted capitals. Just for the record, I have not done any JP, but I might like to do them if doing them had some sense for the overall game.
Many players have done and DO enjoy the jumping puzzles. Also, they are directly tied into adventuring and exploring. They aren’t separate from game play. They are a part of it. Their presence outside of cities isn’t hurting your experience since most are hidden off the beaten path, but removing them would hurt the experience of those who have done and enjoyed them. If you actually had done some, you’d see how well they fit into the world, and how visually striking and creative many of them are. Not that they would remove them anyway. I just can’t believe someone would ask them to remove content they worked so hard on and so many other players enjoy just because you haven’t/don’t.
Jumping puzzles don’t prevent them from making the game fun. If anything, it helps them find ways to make conventional MMO content like PvP and dungeons (Fractals is very much informed by jumping puzzles) more interesting and take full advantage of the Z axis. What I like about the WvW jumping puzzle is the added danger of PvP and all the novel booby traps. Someone else suggested PvE only jumping puzzles, but there’s plenty of those. And not everybody who enjoys the WvW puzzle is just interested in ganking. It’s just another fun and challenging piece of content, and the PvP element makes it more unpredictable and exciting.
