hmm. When I replayed it, I realised brahms little temper tantrum while getting the scroll was completely in character and exactly how he behaved during the second half of HoT. Albeit that during HoT our goals aligned so we didn’t see the kind of clash we did during that particular LS step.

I suspect you’re mixing up two different steps. It was certainly easy to get confused with this collection the way it is worded.

I’m pretty sure that one was just a dialog pop up in the middle of the screen as you enter the final room where the asura spawns.

The console is in spekks lab, to use the volatile compound to create combustive substance.

Can API endpoint be improved to be more usable – approaching real time updates?

The delay is caused by two things:

  • The map instance servers only persist character data back to the database periodically (once every few minutes), not in real-time.
    * Since the API backend talks directly to the character database, it caches data (five minutes) to avoid setting the entire game on fire.

Because of the first reason, primarily, real-time updates are architecturally impossible.

Thanks for the reply. You’ve confirmed what I suspected regarding how this works.

Unfortunately it also confirms – the api is not suitable for an app used along side the game client for gear inspection ( regardless of player “agreement to share”). Simply because even with the long winded effort needed to ping everything individually ( and then try to interpret/understand the pings, which may get mixed with other players due to not being able to ping everything in a single chat line) is still quicker in game, than it takes the endpoint to update.

tl;dr: we need a better way to share builds ( including gear) in the game client, the API just physically can’t be a practical solution.

It’s fine for something used while not logged into the game of course.

look at the healing power coefficients of the healing abilities you have.

will 250 healing power x coefficient be greater than 12.5% of the heal with your current healing power?
Then things like frequency and which heals are actually “connecting” ( IE actually healing someone) factor into it.
Also as mentioned, benevolence will only boost healing to others. Though this shouldn’t matter much in full minstrels, even on an ele. you should have more than enough self sustain.

There are also several other nuances to a healing ele, but most don’t affect ( or would occur equally regardless of) your sigil choice.

The latest living story episode has checkpoints so you only go back as far as the checkpoint, which is about as good as it can get.

Retrofitting the old story instances would be amazing, but a lot of potentially quite difficult work ( remember they have to make sure they didn’t break anything else along the way) to do.

I suspect path of fire may have had instances built before this feature was being added to them, considering development apparently started on PoF just after HoT was released.
However going forward I would expect this to be something they try to add to instances created from this point on. Keeping in mind instances may not be created in the order they are presented.

tl;dr:
it’s in the latest instances, and likely to be in any instances created from now on. Which may not include some/all PoF instances due to development timelines.

Giver’s a funny set. The weapons and armor give different stats despite the identical prefix. It be nice if they could also be split into 2 different prefixes that applied to armors and weapons.

This. I’m sure dwayna/grenth themed prefixes could be used considering they are a wintersday stat.

the entire point of the big health bars as I saw them was to see your party members health/GotL not just your own.

Which would be visible (gotl) were it not for a poorly designed UI in squads anyway, or already is ( hp). You can see all the buffs in parties already.

Ultimately doing a self gear inspect seems no different to me, than seeing an effect on my character currently.

I appreciate what you’re trying to do, and I hope anet wakes up and realises there are some major QoL improvements needed.

So you’re effectively doing a “self gear inspect” by memory reading, then sharing that, making it visible to people in the same worldID?

Technically reading your own gear should be fine since its visible in game.
However the same argument applies to health bars.. and that seems to be in the “you could get banned for developing this” category.

I’d be dubious about a tool that isn’t using an API for it currently. Though one can hope it provides enough incentive for anet to give us an option somehow.

I’m not going to comment too much on the specific traits/suggestions.

However the idea of traits that are particularly strong, but come with a tradeoff (traitoff? amusing typo..) such as more damage, but longer cd, or losing a certain effect is extremely interesting. It’s a shame it seems so unlikely for this idea to be read by the balance devs.

I’ve known of plenty of Australians who wvw without much issue, so at least there is hope it’s fixable. Higher ping won’t be fixable, but it should be playable.

Just to rule it out, what are your system specs?
- Assuming it’s definitely not that, it sounds like your ISP may need poking/changing. But definitely worth giving a VPN a try as Adam suggested first ( just because its cheaper/less permanant).

Also, I don’t know about you, but where I’m from, helping close family/friends out when they forgot/misplaced something is perfectly common and normal. As is asking for help.

Of course I help people out. The OP’s use case isn’t asking for help; it’s asking other people to be responsible for remembering to check. Misplacing something once … we all do that, even a few times. But expecting others to do it so often that you need an update to the game’s UI… doesn’t that strike you as above & beyond ?

You also asked if I’d mind if it became easier to ping gear. I wouldn’t mind; that seems like a more reasonable compromise, especially if there are build templates that we can share. Gear inspection feels like spying to some; sharing builds & gear by pinging seems more cooperative.

hmm, I think it’s just the sugar coating on the “as a commander I want to know wtf this random pug has for a build, so we can get them to tweak or, or adapt to their particular setup as needed”. Well mixture of sugar coating and trying to put it from the perspective of the pug, rather than the commander.

I’ve done some tests.
The times are +/- ~5 seconds or so.

gw2e took 8 minutes to update after a single item was changed.

Using the API directly has yielded some mixed results – none of which come close to suitable for a substitute to in-game real-time gear inspection.
Api directly: 4:40, 4:40, 2:10 & 5:10.

So the API directly is a bit faster ( suspect gw2e uses caching to help reduce api calls).

While this isn’t nearly enough tests to be conclusive, even at the best of the 3 time, ~ 2 minutes to wait to see a gear change is going to do nothing but infuriate users of an app designed to provide an “out-of-game gear inspection solution”.

edit: Just caught your reply Tao, I was considering running a script so I can get a much larger data set, but at the moment it doesn’t seem like it will matter.

Its not always about personal DPS – sometimes one trait such as this can make x2 diff in heals -> ability to kill or not kill.

How often does this happen to a smart player knowing his stuff. Not quite often I assume.

Remember its not so much a problem in static groups, but I certainly lead and have lead pug groups for far too long.

Takes quite a bit of effort / discussion to identify the problem more often than not.
Could easily do it in 10s if could see (a) build or (b) give them a build from a template in-game so they could update their own.

May not be a killer in a static group, but with pugs – who are often close and unknown quantity’s can be a bit of a killer.

Don’t underestimate the complexities of deailing with pug groups.

Even this won’t kill your group or has such a big impact on the team performance because even pugs can low-man stuff.
You’re making a little thing a big issue, seriously.

I’ve seen pugs leave after one failed try because they believe the group won’t succeed.
I’ve seen instances where a single trait or utility can make a huge difference, such as taking healing spring on your druid at sloth.

Sorry, I really still fail to see how it is an issue, specially for the Chronomancer since you mentioned that one. If you miss a trait (and the OP already gave examples with ele and war) your group will pop in less than 5 min, and now everyone should be looking for this kind of thing. It does not warrant developing a new tool at all. Raids are already one of the fastest clearing environment there is, the only reason it should ever take more than 2 hours of your daily time is if you don’t have a static group.

It might have sounded like I wouldn’t welcome build templates, oh I kitten would, but it is indeed, a non-issue for raiders. VG is not going to go and cap the entrance waypoint because you took too long to build and food up (a real matter in WvW), the only possible reason someone would be getting so anxious about trivial trait and tricket misplacing is peer pressure. The minmaxing is getting to everyone’s head here. How is a group wiping without elem taking one trait, if not because they’re also getting wrong distortions and dodges?

Also, you answered it yourself, the API is useless as a specific gear checking tool and Anet has no intention at all (so far) to introduce proper WoW style gear checking, because it does not positively reinforce the presence of everyone else around you.

As I said, last time I tried, gw2e took > 10 minutes to update a single item change. So that isn’t going to be viable for the purpose. Not to mention the number of steps involves is prohibitive.

As for authorisation- I’d put a disclaimer on the page “uploading your API to this site constitutes permission for others to view your character data”.

I will have to test that application out to see how quickly the API updates.
I still have concerns about scale though. API throttling may still be an issue if a lot of players are using it.

Also, not seeing how to share my character build data – let alone quickly enough to be worthwhile over manually pinging every single detail into chat ( which gets messy when looking at multiple people).

oh.. share a gw2skills.net link.. Yeah.. That can be edited and faked even more easily than in-game pings, and still needs a huge link which would have to be send via out of game program to be viable. Or shortened with a url shortener, which adds yet another step.

Sorry, that makes this not really viable for sharing builds in a timely manner.

Though generating the gw2skills links is a nice feature.

to add clarity, the kind of application I have in mind would function with the following two user stories:

“As a user I want to upload my API key and make my character data public”

“As a commander I want to search a person’s character name, and view their build information”

optionally
“As a player with an input api key I want to immediately see players in my party/squad to check character data”

This one I’m not sure if there is an API endpoint for party/squad information though.

gear inspection is functionally already available, it just doesn’t appear to be viable for the use cases the OP outlined as the API takes too long to update & has issues with the api throttling. 1 raid group = 10 players querying 9 other players data every X seconds = 90 requests/X seconds. Where x really needs to be under 5s to really resemble updating in real time. now multiple by however many raid groups utilise such a tool at a given time. ( 1080 requests/minute per group at once/5s. I don’t remember what the request/minute throttle is set to).

Hi,
After the ToS compliance of DPS meters blowup a few months ago, and the reminder with a developer getting banned.

I tested the gear/build API, to see how viable it would be to share ( discounting how many steps are requiring for one to share via gw2efficiency going through several options).

I found the API/application took over 10 minutes to update to an item or trait change.

Greater than 10 minutes to update renders it next to useless for easy sharing of current build.

I’m aware this could be gw2efficiency being slow to update. Possibly due to the API throttling .
If this is the case, then perhaps its time to find/make an app specifically for build sharing so it isn’t competing for requests/minute with everything else (assuming build templates & sharing isn’t in development in-game).

I have two schools of thought here.

the first.. It seems there’s an issue with how unfun it is for the OP to farm materials like blood rubies ( and I don’t blame them, I find gathering the most tedious boring thing in the game). Closely related is how little you actually get from certain maps, like bloodstone fen. It genuinely feels faster ( and more reliable – x time yields y rewards) in wvw/pvp to get rubies. Even though this may or may not be strictly true.

The other school of thought: is the argument that “PvE” is a broad umbrella, and maybe shouldn’t be thought of as a single game mode. I’m not entirely sure I agree, though I would say raiding and gathering is definitely very different “content” (I use quotes, because gathering is technically farming, not content in my mind, but that is a debate for semantics that I’d rather not get into).
This then evolves into the idea of “well if PvP/WvW players can gather rubies/dungeon tokens/<insert content specific reward here> without having to go farm the nodes leave their prefered content (game mode), why can’t I, doing raids/fotm?”

Solutions
For the first: I’d suggest the gather rates/methods for items like blood rubies probably needs looking at. This is something I would like to see addressed personally.

For the later, the solution would be highly unpopular – remove content specific rewards from reward tracks. Including rubies, dungeon tokens, maybe even festival items. This makes it “fair” for all – Want rubies? go gathering.
Alternatively, allow raid/fractal tokens to be traded for other currencies, but then that becomes a behemoth to maintain, as you have to consider currency conversion rates, as well as how that affects time to acquire.

Seems like it would be have to be the same for any expansion with masterys: buying that expansion has to unlock the ability to spend mastery points.. So core tyrian ones would unlock with any expansion, not just HoT.

This will be fun.
I know a lot of “wvwers” don’t want this (looking at the comments) but there seems to be massive QQ about any change, along with QQ about stale game mode. Can’t win? lol..

I suspect this is going to fun for most. Especially with the limit of having to own the objective – potentially quite a boon for defenders of objectives.

Gliding in to from the cliff defend bay inner for example.

you mean your account bank/wardrobe etc?

You can.. crafting stations also act as a bank.

You can get scribe stations quite easily..

This system is there to penalize people who don’t play enough, not reward those who play/played a lot.

It’s easy for someone who has time and play a lot, its hard for new or casual players, even if these casuals actually enjoy the mode.
100h done in 2 weeks or 100h done in a months isnt rewarded the same for same rank.

Been trying to tell people this fact from the launch of the reward changes. Unfortunately there are “old guard” who want to punish people who don’t put in the same time they do, because they somehow feel entitled to other peoples time. Obviously those will also argue that isn’t the case because no one wants to admit to that kind of mindset.

A solution that is VERY simple (in concept)..

Pip track doesn’t reset weekly, but resets at the end of the week you finish the diamond chest.

100h done in 2 weeks or 100h done in a months isnt rewarded the same solves this problem.

This does make the loyalty commitment pip almost impossible for most to obtain and would need to be reworked to be what was originally advertised: 3 weeks on the same server, not “earn x pips in the previous week(s)” Though honestly, making outnumbered +4 (-1 compared to current) and making placement pips +2/3/4 ( +1 on current) would also help the bottom end of the pip range considerably.

3. Improve loyalty/commitment. Those who are more committed to the mode should get more.
finished wood/bronze/silver last week = +1 pip.
finished gold/plat/mithril last week = +2 pips.
finished diamond last week +3 pips.

every group I’ve been in has pulled that attack over to one of the glowing statues, so I’m not sure it really matters.

Unless you want to have people range dps until it lands?
But getting pugs to do that instead of dodging would be a chore, and for organised groups, just dodge/distort?

Maybe I’m a minority here but I’m of the mind that the keep lord should have very little impact on the fight.

As I said, 100% think DBL lords are annoying, don’t let trolls, and people misunderstanding my post, confuse you.

The HoT expansion added all that things to PvE, that’s ok, because on PvE everybody is your ally, you don’t need to worry about 120 players trying to kill you.

Just because someone disagrees with your subjective opinion does not make them trolls. Nor does it mean they are misunderstanding your post.

Take your “100% of people find x annoying” and smoke it. It is entirely false facts, which cannot be proven.

I prefer the dbl lords as they are more than mere punchbags. I would go so far as to say WvW would benefit from revamping all the npcs to make them more meaningful.

Loot quality, Magic find, Please explain..

The age old Gamers Lament is “This loot s…”. Okay, to some extent this will never change. But, with the advent in game of Magic Find, I thought this would change to a degree. I have wondered how much magic find is needed, but started salvaging etc, bringing mine up, albeit slowly, it is increasing. I then heard of players with 300% MF still getting bottom of the barrel loot. I understand you won’t get a precursor drop every kill, but at some point will I see more Exotics? As is I have seen maybe 5 in 6 months. Is that normal? I am currently 122%. Interesting how it says “Increases your chance to find RARE items” lol

discounting raid loot, and other (almost) guaranteed sources of exotics, I definitely get more than 5 exotic drops every 6 months ( with upwards of 300% mf).

The issue is they tend to cluster- so out of the blue, I will randomly get 6 exotic drops in a couple of hours. RNG clustering – while I’ve seen anet claim isn’t an issue – in my experience absolutely occurs.

Also anecdotally, I find with higher magic find I get more loot ( possibly due to higher chance of getting any drop at all?)

Remove the adventure from collection. Is impossible complete specialization collection. Create collection dedicated to adventure e remove from other collection.

If it were impossible then nobody would have completed them.

Adventures only require you to get bronze which is doable for all of them.

I thought a bunch of them required silver? ( not disputing that it’s possible, merely that they need a bit more than bronze)

They used to until April of last year. I think the legendary precursor collections still require silver or above though.

oh, good to know. I guess I had them done already.. or wanted silver for mastery points and didn’t notice.. either way.

You mean “nip it in the bud”? ( I always thought of it like cutting off a flower bud, before it has chance to bloom).

What?
being in wvw x amount of time has sod all (outside of bonus pips for ranks & loyalty, both of which take significantly more than a single hour) to do with pips/tick.

Where the hell did you come up with the idea that after 1 hour you drop from 2 pips to 1 pip? /scratch_head

the hero weapon track only gives the basic version. The mistforged weapon also has the particle effect.

I’m not an anet employee. I can’t tell you why we have time gates in this game.
I can take some guesses at it, but that’s all. It’s not my job to justify them.

I think I know why Anet likes time gates. Time gates artificially extend the life of game content. They know, for instance, that it will take at least 14 weeks for anyone to finish the Warbringer precursor. If they had repeatable ticket chests then someone could theoretically get it in far less time and the life of the content would be diminished.
Time gating makes sense from a game development perspective.

But that’s not the rationale you seem to be using here. You seem to be thinking that new players will be discouraged from participating if they know that there are people out there who will be getting things faster than them? But then you’ve already acknowledged that’s going to happen anyways. So what’s the line of reasoning here?

don’t twist my words. I see what happened here. You’ve mixed up 3-4 different lines of argument.

the first, is the cap serves as a time gate – one which most people won’t reach most weeks because it takes so many hours.

The second, is that currently the rewards are so slow for low ranked players, they are struggling to make meaningful progress. Which is discouraging.

The third (which is closely related to the second) is, raising the cap would mean anet has to more carefully consider what they do when altering pip gains. Especially if the repeatable chest were to contain tickets.

The fourth, is meanwhile you’re still able to get everything in the repeatable chest if you are one of those outliers..
