Agree with above post. Ascd armor is a metric ton more expensive. You’ll do fine with exotic armor for raids(I do). You’ll only need Ascd for fractals; it earns good money and they are surprisingly fun.

You’ll still be able to get the wings, even with the considerable league changes coming with Season 5.

It’s been known we’d be able to still get them for a while ( “year of ascension” is kinda misleading here).
I figured the easiest (read: laziest, cheapest) way for this would be to just.. leave the achievements available ( during seasons). This also runs more in parallel to the fotm backpiece achievements.

At least we don’t have to play in the depressing s4 if we don’t want to however it’s going to be done.

The issue isn’t to bring back traditional tanking, with a static aggro-threat system, but to make better use of the gear, stats and skills Arena-Net implemented. gear like berserkers, sinisters, vipers and damage oriented gear sinergize so well that gear like knights, nomads, settlers and clerics are considered obsolete. If these gear sets actually worked better, then there would be different play styles. Its a bad mechanic to have a lot of options and only have a a small few actually work well. This is not a “no trinity system”. this is a “we have a trinity and a few other things, but only dps is viable system”

We do not have a only dps is viable system. For the most part we have an, “everything is viable system.”

and yes, while you can DO almost all content with any gear and random build

Yes, I totally found groups for TA aetherblade path, CoF path 3, SE path 2, HoTW path 2. Obviously the player’s opinion is highly subjective. /s

I don’t see any reason why not to make 5-man “elite dungeons” to provide more end-game content. Especially given the things I outlined previously. Other than availability of resources – raid team is presumably busy with raids, but could easily make instances for parties rather than squads.

Though the trail of thought you’ve put this on could very easily lead to “we need dungeons with hard mode”. Which would easily slip into “we need easy mode raids”.

Really, Dungeons should just stay away from endgame and/or overhauled to be used as leveling tool for leveling characters with a Dungeon Finder. Then when the players grinded enough for level 80 exotics, then they are ready for tier 1 fractals.

Fractals should be the 5 man “Elite Dungeons.” Making new dungeons is a waste of time.

  • Lower the dungeon level requirement to 10 for Ascalon Catacomb explorable and Arah explorable for level 70 and the other dungeons down to their respective levels.
  • Add another set of the same dungeon weapon/armor that has level requirement for the leveling player.
  • Story mode dungeons is now soloable.
  • Dungeon finders for dungeons. Because level 70 players can’t get to Arah.

I am all for new fractals. But adding new dungeons for endgame is a big waste of time.

I’ve always hating tanking. Always. Tanking, to me, is the worst thing that’s happened to the MMO genre.

I mean the typical tank and spank scenario is you have a tank, who draws all the aggro and stands there, while being healed by a healer, while everyone else takes it down. What part of this is not completely contrived.

I’m sure Lord of the Rings would have been a much better book if Boromir stood there tanking while Gandalf healed him, and no one was actually in any danger.

Tanking is ludicrous. It’s a mechanic that should not even exist. Yes, it’s lovely to not be able to die. But you know, that sort of defeats the whole purpose of playing a game in which you can die.

baha, I can’t imagine Gandalf wanting to be a (exclusive) healer personally.

To be honest, dungeons could have been added with release and then they’d be in the state as the other dungeons once everyone unlocked all of the skins.

He is saying that they’ll be incredibly easy and boring but popular so that they farm them over and over again, or they’ll be hard and people will play it for one week and stop playing them again forever.

So which of those categories does the new bloomhunger fall into in your opinion?

High irrelevant, Bloomhunger boss is in fractals, not dungeons.

Lets look at it from another angle: how long did it take for dungeons to be “on farm” for most players, compared to bloomhunger ( even with its various scales of difficulty).

For me, many dungeon paths took longer to learn than new bloomhunger did, to reach “on farm” status.

So this kind of content will be “do for one week and forget” or “easy and farmable”.. Well that can subjectively be said for any content. So.. Should anet make no new content ever? I think not.

I said it before hot was launched, and still believe this now:

We didn’t need harder content. Just new content at the same difficulty as say arah or fotm 50 ( pre-shenanigans)

For me though, fundamentally the most difficult thing with raids is getting everyone online at the same time.. forming with 5 was/is near infinitely easier than forming a group of 10. The raid content itself isn’t that hard. ( I’ve spent more time waiting to get the group together than actually attempting kills..)

I too found far more people were interested in dungeons ( prior to HoT) than raids.

I suspect raids are going to have significant issues once most people have their 150 LI (I’m already seeing this with people I used to invite to raids).

It’s a real shame, because anet has forgotten what it learnt from GW1.
- endgame party size reduced from 8 or 12→ 5. WHY? easier & quicker to form..

(side note, this meant we didn’t need effect LOD to see wth the boss is doing. We could also see what the rest of our group is doing, making combos more useful, and we could help give each other advice when we can see what we’re doing)

- removal of a healer(& tank) concept ( until Hot – specifically raids). WHY? → people got bored waiting for a healer. Or a tank. Prior to HoT there were “optimal team comps” but largely it was just for faster completion for “on farm” dungeons. Support was still a think, just in the form of active defences, or group dps buffs.
- shorter, more modular endgame – dungeons you could drop in/out very easily because they were short instances (usually). Smaller party, being able to form quicker helps with this. WHY? because waiting 45 minutes to spend <15 minutes killing matthias on a saturday is boring AF( this happened for me this past weekend FYI).

I’ve been trying to figure out for a few days how to create a thread on this, but realistically it’s more of an “anet – you kittened up” rather than something that needs discussion.
As such I’m half expecting this post to be moderator nuked because it points out how anet kittened up.

I love how all the generic praises.. Oh it’s perfect good job anet, oh we did it in 20 mins loved it… have absolutely no backing. Seems rather fishy

The reality, this fractal needs to be looked at and toned down, there are many complaints about the speed level of the boss combined with one shotting capabilities and annoying waiting factors before being able to damage it.

That’s what makes generic praise generic…

As for why I like it, I like that I have to constantly keep an eye on bloomhunger while dealing with other stuff. I also feel that with some more time we’ll adapt some better tactics to make it not take long at all. I know the teams I went with aside from the wipes while people took a couple tries to learn were about 10-15mins for a kill. That’s not bad for what is a first kill for most.

3 necros, 1 druid, 1 chrono or a 4th necro..
It drops significantly faster than 10-15 mins ( in one green patch I’ve seen ~ 25%+ hp gone, depending on the skill of the necros.. and this is indeed at t4)

AoE capping things with minions is quite amusing also – but thats a more general observation of the team comp.

1) Guild only Commander Tag: allow guilds to run privately without losing the benefits of the new commander system. If someone wants to follow, let them try to join the guild.

This is already in the game. You can lock the squad. That it show on the map for everyone instead of just guild irrelevant – any idiot can follow a guild whether they show tag or not.

Unless you are suggesting a guild only tag that insta-kill all server members within 2400 radius unless they are part of the guild.

(visible to) guild only tags can’t have a f2p account being used as a spy. So there is that..

Help Choosing Sigils

Over the few years of building my characters, I have always resorted to using the Force/Accuracy combo for whatever class and weapons I use, simply because I felt it suited my casual play style. Recently however, I have been looking at the idea of changing it to something different that will take advantage of the high critical chance (which is usually above 50%). I have looked at the following options which interest me the most:

1 – Force/Accuracy (keeping what I already have)
2 – Air/Accuracy
3 – Fire/Accuracy
4 – Air/Fire (will still be above 50% crit chance without the accuracy sigil)

If any of you have other suggestions for sigils, I am more than happy to hear them. This is mainly for PvE and WvW (usually with zergs).

Why would you ever drop a force sigil?

accuracy is basically for if you aren’t getting very close to the 100% crit cap.
However in group settings you will tend to be higher due to banner of discipline and sometimes spotter.

being “perfectly optimised” for open world is kinda moot, since things should drop in a second or two outside of champs anyway. So You’re typically better optimising for group content, where you have the aforementioned buffs.

Force& Accuracy/Air is a solid choice for most builds/situations.
Rage sigils can be quite nice if you have no quickness source.
Bloodlust if you are able to get stacks (raids/dungeons/fotm you typically won’t get enough kills during an instance to be worth using). Again for PvE, force sigil is pretty much staple.

PvP/WvW settings air/fire tend to work better – due to spike damage being slightly better than sustained dps to get kills. bloodlust is quite easy to charge in wvw due to 5 stacks/player kill.

Situationally a multitude of sigils can be very nice, such as strength & paralyzation on a mace/shield set for a PS war.

Definitely reportable imo. You were doing what was necessary for the mechanics, but got kicked due to commander ignorance..
What result it will have is another matter entirely.

On a side note, I find escort by far the hardest encounter to pug – because the quality of pugs is absolute trash..

As a necro I’m dropping DH’s pretty easily.

Must be I’m getting a skewed view and just seeing the terribad DH’s drop like flies..
I am seeing my team mates losing 3 vs 1 and stupid stuff like that.. so.. Who knows.

This sounds a lot like DPS starts high ( initial burst, with the long cd, high dmg skills), then tailing off.. more so when additional mechanics kick in forcing people to avoid things.. ( or losing scholar buffs and such).

Sounds more like a group dps drop off than a toughness changing thing to me, though I could be wrong.. I don’t really pay attention to the thaumanova anomaly fight anymore..

Season 4 Ranked Matchmaking Change

Not going to lie matchmaking is pretty grindy at the moment.
But I would play with the most terrible matchmaking if they could somehow implement no class stacking in the ranked matchup.
I would deal with perma downstate all day knowing that there is no stacking.

If you implement such a rule for your highest level of play and do not carry it down to your “casual/lower levels” how do you expect players to enjoy the game the same way?

However its easy to verbally give a rule to ESL games but to code it into the game is a lot more difficult because they would have to prevent class switching and hopefully also implement class MMR.

I fear anet would do this kitten.

Stop character changing, without adding the matchmaking restriction for no more than 1 class…

Well I just witnessed a rev vs necro fight. Necro didn’t drop below 95% hp once. No shroud used. I walk in and drop that necro in about 4s..

Either the rev was throwing the match, or I’m not meant to play PvP

Again: GG anet. +1 for s1 matchmaking.

This makes me wonder isn’t that about 3 seconds longer than it takes to kill a necro now days? The Rev was afk? Hell someone on the opposite side of the map could have farted, and the necro would have died. I’m confused, something doesn’t add up here.

To elaborate: I’ve been playing necro today.

No, the rev was not afk.

Also they are not as squishy as people seem to think. Perhaps people just can’t adapt builds for toffee ( then again everyone is glued to metabattle so im not surprised).

There is something that doesn’t add up for sure. But you might want to look internally for it.

DH was strong in low divisions last season too.

Symbol DH is a direct result of the recent buffs. Nobody here is talking about Longbow/GS or trapper DH. the problem is Symbol DH combined with the overpowered Purification heal.

you’re either purposely trying to derail the focus on this overpowered build or you’re just ignorant about your own profession.

Not had any problems dealing with DH. Even with symbols, they don’t hurt any more than they did before.

However I’m still seeing people get 1shot by traps.

Well I just witnessed a rev vs necro fight. Necro didn’t drop below 95% hp once. No shroud used. I walk in and drop that necro in about 4s..

Either the rev was throwing the match, or I’m not meant to play PvP

I am, of course, assuming that people who care about LI already have their APIs submitted to a website and a tinyurl ready to share.

It is dangerous to base your arguments on assumptions alone.
Especially when that assumption is someone puts in effort out of game ( something which in my experience people are extremely reluctant to do.. it is a game after all..).

We can already ping weapons, armour & traits.

People can already demand to see this and choose to kick you.

Making it a so your entire “build” ( basically gear & traits) in a single ping, instead of in.. 6+2+9+5.. (armor,weapons, traits, utils) pings is, as far as I can tell no different in terms of functionality.

It’s simply a ( massive, imo) QoL fix to make it quicker and easier for those who wish to ping.
It has zero impact on those who don’t wish to ping.

Which considering being able to ping build templates to share with others is quite a major feature of build templates, that I’m sure anet realises we would want..
Adding something to denote “this is my current build” would be rather trivial compared to the rest of build templates.

No one can “invade your privacy” or “see your secret build” or whatever, since it would require ping, EXACTLY as it does now. Only with fewer pings (just one) required.

I honestly cannot wrap my head around why anyone wouldn’t want this feature/QoL improvement.

Yeah we can do it via an API, but forcing a pug to set up an API key is likely to just have them leave since it’s not worth their time/effort.

I should add: a chat code for a build template would be nice, to be able to share a build out of game would be a nice feature for build templates also.
Understandably one would likely not be able to equip the template(unless their gear matched exactly..), but they could set their own gear up to match, then save as→overwrite that template with their own gear.

Earth vs Bursting

Heya,

Bursting only boosts your BASE condition damage, not the final condi damage. So it’s even worse.

Backwards. Bursting doesn’t boost the base and only boosts the final.

Runes of Berserker boost base ( 131.5 + .155 x Condition Damage ) x 1.05

Bursting boosts final 131.5 + ( .155 x Condition Damage x 1.06 ).

If you face a single target, use Geomancy and Earth, if you face multiple targets you should use Geomancy and Bursting, because Earth occasionaly will proc on adds and be a dps loss compared to Bursting.

If you ever see the opportunity to use Corruption, use that one instead!

At 2,500 condition damage bonus from Bursting is 150. 6% of that, bleed’s coefficient, is 9. It’s unlikely adding 9 to your Germany bleed for adds is a better move than using earth against the main considering 2,500 CD bleeds for 150 on its own.

It will always work out to a flat 6% due to design.

Both posts you’ve made have a lot of numbers but I have no idea where they’re coming from. I like math, but like saying bleed’s coefficient is 9… no, no it’s not, it’s .06 with a base of 22, so the formula is [condition damage *.06 + 22]. I have a feeling you know what you’re talking about but it’s impossible to follow when the numbers aren’t being defined and at face value look to come from nowhere.

Oh, no problem.

So let’s work with the sigil of bursting first.

So if we have equipment and all that which gives us 2,500 total condition damage then the sigil of bursting will add 6%. So 6% of 2,500 is 150.

Now we take the additional condition damage by itself ( that 150 ) and apply the bleed coefficient to get 6% of 150 or 9.

This is messy. The easiest way to do this is actually to just multiply .06 x (coefficient of condition) to get your answer. So for burning it would be .06 × .155 and for bleeding it’s .06 × .06 ( which, if you notice, is also .06^2, coincidence ) and then you have exactly what you will get from your sigil of bursting.

So .06 × .06 = .0036

2,500 × .0036 = 9

That is how much damage your bleeds would gain additionally from a sigil of bursting. I still wish it were cleaner. It’s a messy looking thing though it isn’t complicated, just messy.

The reason why we don’t take the 22 damage that is “free” is because base condition damage on a player character in the character panel with no equipment on and no traits is “0” so if you had that as the base sigil of bursting doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t effect that number is all.

Let me explain the 6,111 while I’m at it.

So we know that the “free” damage of bleed is 22. We also know that the base character sheet condition damage is 0 without equipment or skills to boost it. What this means is that we can solve for 22 using the coefficients of both sigil of bursting and bleed in order to find the point where sigil or bursting equals a free bleed at zero condition damage (or adds 22 total damage to your bleeds).

The value of 22 / .06 / .06 or 22 / .0036 is that the 6,111 specifically relates to how much effective condition damage you would need for it to be better than one additional bleed from any other source. It would be worth more than a bleed. Same is true for any other condition, for instance, burning:

131.5 / .155 / .06 = 14,139 so at that amount of condition damage your burning from sigil of bursting would do 131.5 extra damage. Obviously that is impossible but it’s good for knowing how effective something is. So if there a sigil that allowed you to get burning on a critical strike it’s value is much greater than a sigil of bursting.

I haven’t checked the maths but the numbers look ok at a glance.

This bit has me intrigued.

seems like your saying you need 6,111 condi dmg for bursting to be better than a single bleed stack.
With duration an earth sigil sigil can add up to 5 stacks. ( realistically 4 due to actually getting it to proc. 10s duration ( 5s base), 2s cd.)

So would you not need 6,111 condi dps * 4 ( ~24k) in just condi damage for bursting to be better than earth? Assuming single target.

Nerfing the mesmer ability to share boons would have a huge impact on raids.
Anet probably won’t nerf signet of inspiration for that reason.

given the popularity i’m seeing of durability runes, I’d expect the icd to be raised on the boons those runes put out.

Sadly this is anet balancing, so they will double or triple nerf, rather than take baby steps and see how it plays out.

So I’ve played through most of the patch. I’ve yet to try the new/old pvp map.

new map:
Interesting enough. Not huge but I never expected a huge map with an LS episode.
Quality seems to be there, if its cheaply designed.
Story:
A bit short. typical for an LS episode – but would have previously been a 2 week release schedule. For 2 months – a bit too short really.
Quality seems to be there at least.

Revamped swamp:
Only tried at t4.
Boring snoozefest.
This is just another “stack necros, spam minions + auto”.
The fight is indeed much more mechanical, requiring all players to actually pay attention to the boss ( I have a personal gripe with players who would do dungeons/fotm while watching tv..).

Definitely more a general complaint to fractals though: would be way more interesting, and much more “raid-like” if you didn’t have boon thieves making it counterproductive to bring most classes, it would be an engaging fight. Currently there is little point using melee classes, because without the various boons, its just not worth it to rush in for a melee burst – then move bloom to the next green circle. Result: necro scepter pewpew.

Chaos fractal:
The leading up to the final boss was mildly interesting.

The final boss is another absolute snore fest. Similar complaints to bloom. Not worth it to attempt to melee burst, so you get a very boring and slow auto attack pew pew fight with some side stepping involved.

There’s probably more players that have maxed out the Shared Inventory Slots than the Dyes.

Thus, same laments… No, even more lamenting.

While I doubt it will happen. Slots like the hot lvl 80 boost slot are additional to those which can be purchased by gems.

The limit is an arbitrary number..

Most of the loot you mentioned is materials. These will self balance with supply/demand altering price. As prices drop, people will move to farming different areas. Also we’re seeing alternative currencies such as unbound magic that will pull people away from farming for materials/gold. Given the current value of materials I suspect anet is actually trying to reduce the price of materials to make asc gear more accessible.

Gastronomical Infusion +50% food or potion duration

Tinkerer’s Infusion +10% rare salvage chance

Scavenger’s Infusion ore / lumber bonus material per node

Durable Infusion less chance of damaging equipment when downed.

Traveler’s Infusion reduced WP cost

Skrittish Infusion sell junk items to merchants for increased value and/or junk items drop more

I’d end up wanting to swap in the scavenger’s when salvaging rares.. the gastro when grabbing food, with the existing magic find during every other time.

WP costs are trivial so I’d get too lazy to use that I think. even a 15% reduction I’d be too lazy to use, unless it was permanently equipped.

Equipment damage less often would be quite meh as well since that’s free anyway.

However the rest are some interesting ideas. The skritt one may be tough to implement however.

The problem with bursting, is its 6% of the condition damage stat, not a 6% modifier.

It’s going to depend on the class, and build, but the ~5 stacks of bleeds is usually more additional dps than say.. 100-150 extra condi damage.

Anet can already link worlds. More than 2 worlds at a time if they wish ( if i remember correctly).

This idea would be as simple as: 3 host worlds, every other world linked to one of those 3. or 6 hosts with regional divide..

Q about logging right into guild halls

the halls are (Afaik) treated like instances, rather than map zones. as such your GH doesnt technically exist in game world unless someone is in there.

It would add a little overhead for logging back in.
However it’s possibly something to do with the game remembering your characters position in the hall that is the issue.
