Bloomy already stacks might himself when he does his ground pound thing.

25 might + fury + quickness being stolen is a lot more dangerous than just the little bit of might it gets from that attack though.
Nothing wrong with bloom getting some self buffing, that can be stolen/corrupted.
I just think it takes a lot of the fun out of the fight when you want to actively avoid a PS war or a chrono. Also removes any scope as a “stepping stone to raids” @ t4 as result.

I found boon thieves proved to be the biggest pain in the rear for the fight.
We ended up rolling 3 necros, a malyx/shiro rev, and myself on druid.

So, instability depending, don’t bring a lot of might (or fury), since it is highly likely to get stolen by the instability. Bloomy hurt considerably more ( 1 shot vs not) with high might.

The fight became extremely boring though. Just spam minions and spam glyphs and the occasional CA for someone who got hit by something. The attacks even in t4 are very clearly telegraphed. & without might very little was an instant death. Except possibly getting CC’d then getting donkey kong’d. Which can be prevented via break bar.

as a side note: I think this fight would be vastly more engaging without boon thieves. I’d be much more inclined to try to melee, and insta burst the break bar ( such as rev staff 5, and/or basi venom).

Also, does this use matthias or slothosaur fixation mechanics?
It seemed like the latter, but it was just swapping fixation due to downed/death.

tl;dr:
don’t use boons with boon thieves. you’ll just get 1shot more often.
Does he use matthias or slothosaur fixation?

ls1 rewards were added because they were one-time content and people got mad they couldn’t get those rewards retrospectively.

And you can just blind the siege so it misses… :P

thief could stealth → smokescreen or black powder a flame ram/ cata?

Or.. blinding flash on scepter ele?
or engi flash grenade?

This could make defending not require defensive siege so much.. Self balancing?

I was wrong earlier. Anet devs said, that the second ring (as well as earrings) will be available in later LS chapters. So, it seems rings being unique is not an oversight, but just Anet’s attemtp to delay introducing the solution to the problem they themselves created by locking out new statsets behind raiding.

I’m very disappointed with that.

And part of me wants to just sigh & mutter “typical.”

They need carrots to dangle off a stick in other new maps too..

It would be an odd decision to salvage everything below exotic with the same salvage tool.

This..
I wouldn’t want to accidentally salvage rares with a basic kit, or salvage junk with a mystic kit.

I am starting to want a salvage all exotics ( for example with a blsk) however.

And a “sell all minor runes/sigils” to the vendor.. but mystic forge conduit has me covered in a pinch there.

Excess HoT mastery points for LS3

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Artemis Thuras.8795

I have more than 10 ( I’ve stopped even caring how many since i’m already at 170) spare hot mastery points. With many adventures not silver/gold.

I’m glad there are more available. Choice on how to get them is good.
Also I can immediately train any new ones that come out.

Bloodstone fen feels like anet going “hey new players, here’s some more easy mastery points and a pile of exp to help you get them done.” Which I see no problem with to be honest. I’m glad they are making them easier to finish. especially since I expect we may need/want them for the next LS episode.

Grab the dulfy guides for: the mastery insights ( or whatever they are called, in achievement panel, you commune with them. Do the same with strong boxes.

That’ll get you most of the mastery points you need.

Drop into tarir ( auric basin) a little before the challenges pop. You’ll get upward of 200k exp. Do the same with night time in VB.
You’ll have a couple of tiers of gliding and mushroom in no time.

Bloodstone fen literally pours exp on you once you can glide around a bit. There is also a bunch more mastery points here.

Don’t worry about maxing out the masteries. Gliding, and bouncing mushrooms are all you really need for s3.
You’ll find you get the rest without a lot of effort if you don’t try to force it.

So I’m seeing it’s coming in another chapter. I guess that’s /thread?

The thing with the VG spawn – I’ve not figured out whats required to spawn it yet, but it seems like a decent event chain, with lots of champ jade armours.. I expect as people figure out the map they will rip through the big events. It just takes time for people to figure how easy it is.

The salvageable items for lower level mats is certainly an interesting thing, given how valuable those can be. Hopefully its enough financial incentive to keep the map populated for a while.

When I was testing, sword wasn’t significantly different to scepter or hammer now, at least on the standard size dps golem. Not sure if scepter will get higher on the big golems giving it the edge. I’ve still got a tonne of testing to do..

Both sword and scepter were performing better with radiance > honor though. I still need to test with an air sigil over accuracy in the torch, but All I’m expecting there is more dps gains.

Raid Class Preferences?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Artemis Thuras.8795

Artemis Thuras.8795

I’m thinking:
4 key slots:
chrono, druid, ps, rev.

Basically for unique buffs/ + boon spam.

then 6 somewhat optional dps/utility slots.

This is likely to be a mix of tempest, daredevil, DH, reaper, and engi.
Which I just noticed essentially means every class could fit into raids for a solid group now..

It’s going to boil down to utility. DPS isn’t so far apart now that it should matter too much. Ranged DPS might matter however, such as orb clearing for gorsi.

The only thing i want is a rare and lower quality option, and larger than 25 stacks.

Personally I use copper fed on masterwork and lower, and mystic kit on rares. I’d rather not accidentally use my mystic kit on green/blue items.

I suspect most people used a different kit for rare items ( better ecto rates..), so it’s better the way it is.
as for more than 25.. copper & silver fed, or mystic salvage kits..
even limited to 25 at once is still a huge QoL improvement.

Even with t4’s I’ve been getting hardly any chests. mostly asc mats ( not that I mind getting damask/deld ingots, I have virtually no need for asc chests anymore, so the gold value is better for me).

I suppose its possible the chests favour giving mats when you’re already geared out. Still helps getting more gear if you need it but also gold value.

Do I have enough faith that anet has that much foresight? Not in the slightest.

I’ve just attributed my results to RNG and not running fotm so often.

how do these s1 s2 s3 things work?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Artemis Thuras.8795

s1 was mostly temporary content that is no longer available.
s2 was out BEFORE HoT.
s3 (episode one) is out today.

afaik – they are sticking with the same model kitten. Meaning the content is free so long as you log in during the release window ( which looks set to be 2-3 months..)

afaik 2: the episodes “unlock” ( essentially you wont have to pay for them), even if you haven’t purchased hot, however you need to purchase hot to actually play the episodes in s3.

edit: also think of seasons/episodes as a tv show. But interactive.

Advice for those Trying to form raid groups

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

So far the common theme is those being scorned by groups and booted.

Don’t forget this exists:
http://gw2.ninja/chatcodes

So even gear checks can be faked. ( this is also how I got my code for 255 insights)

I would suggest not taking things personally if you do get kicked. Even after gear checks.
Unless you were failing mechanics, in which case take it very personally. You need to learn the mechanics, no one can do that for you.

I’ve personally not needed to use any detailed mechanics guides, and I have no idea if any detailed ones exist. If there are, links to those would be very helpful I’m certain.

Be friendly, and enjoy the content is certainly good advice for anyone.
However I was hoping we would see more practical advice for how to find pugs or fill a spare spot in a group.

Maybe how certain classes can be used to help make a fight easier. Things that might be overlooked when a pug has always been told they must min/max for dps.

One example I can think of is using an ele focus, activating obsidian flesh before the slothosaur shake/coconut. Running into his hitbox, and absorbing (due to invuln) some of the coconuts so they can’t hit anyone else. The same thing will work with any invuln skill really.

I’m hoping over the weekend we can get a few more informative replies!

I feel like your topic is two-faced —-- you want people to fake their way in. Only causing more divisiveness.

The solution has always been form your on group.

Here’s a story: I created an lfg post this week, “LFM Xera, ping proof of kill.” I started the group alone. When there was around four people in the party, one member asked, “Why do your start groups with so few people?” I responded, “Somebody needs to start the group.” Two minutes later the group was full.

I won’t pretend that my groups always fill that fast. But they always fill. And you post gets a lot of attention if it’s the only one there (besides the sellers), which is probably when you’re having trouble getting into a group in the first place.

Don’t lie. People will dislike you for it. Instead, start your own group. I’ve had plenty of kills with the description “LFM VG, exp”

I created a thread designed to help those who wish to form their own groups.

Yet you come here and tarnish that with slanderous personal attacks?

Do not paint me with the same brush you paint yourself.
Your story serves nothing but to brag about your prowess, and only to tells people that which has already been said.

It is a pity you have to be a cause of such negativity.

How did he make a “slanderous personal attack”? He was being critical of you encouraging people to fake insight counts to get into groups. That’s not a personal attack because he was bring critical of your post rather than you personally, and it certainly isn’t slanderous because it’s obviously true (even if it’s unintentional, come on man you’re posting a link to a chat code generating site and talking about how it’s easy to fake gear checks).

You asked for advice on how to fill pug groups and he posted about his experience in making groups – namely that he has been able to easily fill groups even with only minor requirements. It is completely relevant to your topic. He wasn’t being negative at all besides discouraging people from taking your advice and lying to get into groups.

Your thread actually was entirely positive until your post.

See, you’ve fallen for the slander.

I point out how people can cheat gear checks, so that those trying to form groups can be aware that it may happen. For example so they do not blame someone who brings utility to make a run easier for a DPS shortfall.

Yet I get accused of wanting people to lie their way into raids. That is dictionary definition of slander. see:
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/slander?s=t

What your saying doesnt even logically follow….

If you want to prevent someone in a PuG setting from being blamed, then the best logical advice you can give them is to be honest. Not give them the tools to lie.

It’s also not slander as it wasn’t an attack at the person or character, nor did it defame you in any way shape or form.

It’s also in print so it’s libel just saying…

I think you’ve misunderstood the point.

This helps those trying to form a group, by making them aware of how someone might try to lie their way into a group. It only works because it isn’t common knowledge. That’s how secrets hold their power.

As for the slander, if you think accusing me of advocating lying your way into a group isn’t slander, then good luck to you.

Again, it is a shame that the good that could have come from this thread has been tarnished by such a post.

Advice for those Trying to form raid groups

With a balance patch quite possibly coming on tuesday that may happen.

I would be utterly amazed if we didn’t see new runes/sigils/statsets in the next patch considering we haven’t seen a single one since HoT

Living story/ balance/feature patch kinda thing..it’s not an expansion we should be expecting on tuesday.
I’m not particularly convinced that will have new runes/sigils/stat sets. It may come with the promised access to some that are currently raid exclusive, like viper rings.

What effect another avenue for getting that gear will have on WvW I wouldn’t like to guess.

Why? For the most part WvW is fine and the extremities in balance are caused by extreme runesets and sigils. Why not just prune those runesets or sigils down or create build variety by providing more runesets or sigils?

With a balance patch quite possibly coming on tuesday that may happen.

Also we know there is another xpac in the pipeline. Were I a gambler I’d put a sizeable stake on that coming with new runes/sigils/stat sets.

If you want to move stats off gear, It’d be simpler for players to just put the pvp gear system into wvw ( which I’d go for, simply so I dont need to make dedicated wvw gear, and I can mess around with stuff cheaply there). But that idea is a proverbial dead horse.

However messing around with stats, I don’t think is going to solve much. bunker/glass cannon has a lot to do with traits/runes/sigils.

I hope OP doesn’t take the venom in the replies personally.
I understand the frustrations, this is a very common complaint.

@OP, All I can suggest is have a few classes geared out, get to know what is roughly considered meta for runes/sigils. & read up on the encounters a bit, then try to figure out your role within a raid.
It is hard finding a group willing to take a noob through, especially on their first (sometimes only) run of a wing of the week. Keep in mind raids require you to pay attention much more than fotm or dungeons, and this ( along with knowing the mechanics) is where most people trip over at first.

unfortunately a lot of pugs try far to hard to run speed-clear style groups, rather than optimise for an easy kill.

I don’t know what time you’d be looking to raid so there isn’t much point me offering to help you with a group slot when we’re looking to fill out.

Feel free to drop me a pm here or in game if you’d like any help with getting ready for raiding.

edit/ps: Don’t think of raids as a grind. They aren’t really for gear progression like some other games. If you raid, do it because you enjoy the involved nature of the content.

Well thanks for the comment and i would really appreaciate some help to get into raids . I have a pve guild that does raids every saturday night, but they never killed the first boss vg or sloth, i tried the training group from lfg but they can’t even get to kill the first mini bosses in spirit vale, more of a time i was the one getting the lead since nowen had any info about it . Now i made a tempest full ascended with schollar runes, but what use it has if i cant find a group at all or at least to kill a single boss. I really don’t care about grinding raids, but important stuff is gated out from me and it doesn’t feel fair.

You’re not the first, and won’t be the last person I’ve heard the exact same complaint from.

In previous instances, there has been issues with players being too stubborn to change builds, gear or playstyle. People who also suffer from the thing i mentioned previously: not expecting to have to pay attention like other aspects of the game.

There is also issues with people often gear up to optimise open world ( on the cheap usually..) and the choices often don’t work in instances at all.
It’s easy to get information overload when someone tries to explain a raid too. Best thing is to learn 1 role at a time, and then the picture builds up like a jigsaw puzzle. You’re in a group that is having to learn every role, and its not easy.

Advice for those Trying to form raid groups

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Artemis Thuras.8795

Artemis Thuras.8795

I remember how challenging it was when raids first came out. Trying to form a successful group wasn’t easy. The advice now for new raiders seems to be the stock answer: “form your own group”.

We could just say “suck it up and get on with it like we did” but that’s a bit antisocial, and off-putting for people who want to get into raiding late.

So I think a thread with advice on how to get into raids and/or forming your own groups would be beneficial.

Few tips of mine:

Legendary insight pings: they cant be faked, they can be bought. They don’t really mean much at all. ( I personally have an item code for 255, purely for when I’m looking for more, and I get told how their insights make them pro)

Gear checking: don’t just look for optimal dps in pugs: look for gear that shows they’ve put thought into their build. The dps checks aren’t actually very tight. But keep a thick skin, people like to hurl abuse, and/or claim success with their gear.

Make sure you meet your own requirements.

Remember the dps checks aren’t that tight, so you do have room to run safer class compositions. A smooth run is a much better experience than a failed fast run. Especially when pugging.

Never assume everyone knows all the mechanics and telegraphs. This is a fast track to frustration and failure.

Don’t be afraid to admit your mistakes. Some may kick you, but knowing you messed up is a big step towards not repeating your mistakes. Players who will make for good raid allies will recognise this and be content with progress.

Practice your own rotations in the training area (more difficult for support classes like druid). The last thing you want is to be figuring out how to use your class while trying to also figure out mechanics.

Accept that not every class is useful for every fight. The more classes you can play the easier it is to find/form groups.

Hopefully there is plenty more advice that can be consolidated here.

..And we are back to people making ( incorrect) assumptions about other players.
Or are some of these replies veiled personal attacks? I’m not entirely sure on the intent.

There are assertions of “there are better options” and “x should stay exactly how it is now” But I’m not seeing examples, or reasoning. The articulation of thoughts here is.. very weak.

I guess this is why the devs avoiding posting here as much as possible. Too many simply wishing to try to put others down, and derail discussion about ideas. I’m starting to pity anet a bit. Gathering feedback must be quite horrible and depressing at times.

turn raid encounters into fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Artemis Thuras.8795

I agree with the other posters here — this is a pretty bad idea.

If you already raid, then raid-fractals add nothing. Worse than nothing, because you’ll repeat the same content when you fractal.

If you are interested in raiding, then fractals already serve as a stepping stone in skill level. And if it’s the same, then you’ll be bored when you raid, because it’s more of the same.

And, somewhat ironically, but t4 raid-fractals would have a higher barrier to entry, because it requires more ascended gear.

New fractals are far superior to recycled content.

Agreed, new content is always better than recycled, but it’s hardly an exclusive or kinda deal I was suggesting. Repeating is somewhat moot, given the frequency of posts suggesting raiders often rerun later in the week. However I hadn’t considered going the other way being boring. I was looking at it from the perspective of training someone, not the one being trained up.

I do agree, the difference from t4 fractals and raids in terms of individual skill isn’t that high. However the caveat is t4 fotm can still be done 2 & 3 man… So there those who get carried, and don’t pay attention. The big step up is for people who aren’t used to having to pay attention at all to what the enemy is doing in pve.

I had wondered when someone was going to point out the geargating of fractals..

Thankyou for posting the reasoning behind your opinion.
I do think whatever anet decides to do, t4 fotm should be on par with raids in terms of mechanics and difficulty. Maybe that is their plan.

Ok, this discussion is taking an interesting turn.

“For the encounters: You can likely afk melee and/or range mobs/bosses there if you are able to play your class. "

This is kinda self contradicting. You’re implying that by playing well you can be afk/braindead. While I know what you mean, I think this is highly misleading for those who don’t know what you mean.

Paraphrasing this: after a while things become muscle memory and you react without thinking. At which point you can focus more on positioning what what the enemy is doing, which in turn becomes predictable with experience.
I wanted to clear that up because i’ve met many who have become confused by the original wording you used.

I have every old school success in fractals and was lvl 50 before it was cool so to say. So no, I don´t think fractals are very hard. But still hear me out:
You, me and the rest of the 10-20% know their classes and what to do. A fractal appears only faceroll easy to you because you are a dedicated player, something you basically confirm with your answers. A T4 fractal is of course easy to someone that raids or soloed lupi or some other stuff the common player usually does not even attempt.

Why do you assume that anyone or even a large majority is on your level of dedication to the game? That surely is not the case.

1. Never soloed Lupi
2. Only beaten 1 raid boss so far
3. When you say dedicated player, what’s your criteria for that? I play less than 4 hours a week
4. My experience with fractals comes from having actually done them, and like I said they are easier when you know what to expect; per what I also said, the mechanics don’t change so if you do what I did and start at a low level and work your way up by the time you get to T4 you already know what to do. If someone is trying to do t4 with no agony resistance and no experience then not only should they expect to fail, but complaining about it just means they want instant gratification and their opinion should be discounted when discussing what people want out of fractals.
5. Maybe if the “common player” attempted to do these things then we wouldn’t have to be worrying about it.
6. Even if fractals were excessively elitist in their nature, why should someone who hasn’t bothered to put in any effort get the same rewards if they can’t beat the same challenge?
7. Finally, if fractals are that much of an impossible challenge for someone already, why are they wasting their time on something they know they can’t do? Stick to low level fractals until you get to where you need to be and stop complaining that other people have access to stuff you don’t when you don’t do the necessary things to gain access to them.

This boils down to: how to you identify a good player from a bad one.
things like soloing lupi – is largely about practice. However it’s not all that useful if you want to enjoy the game with other people. Being good solo certainly helps with group content, but its not really needed. Even for raids. I’d probably kick someone for boasting about a lupi kill just because their attitude would be insufferable.

Time investment certainly helps, but is by no means an indicator of how good you are at the game.
I know players who have maybe 2 hours a week, but are x*10^100 times better than player x who is maybe online 100 hours/week (obviously there may be some exaggeration here..)

To talk about anets aim: hard content was always a thing. I remember the dungeons at launch. They were umm.. Interesting. Suffice it to say I wasn’t expecting a dungeon which was only lvl 45 to actually be particularly hard ( figured that would be the level 80 ones).

However (Bringing this back on topic), what we currently have is a significant gap between top tier fotm, and raids.
There are a lot of different complaints regarding raids.

I find this honestly quite bizarre, given that on an individual level, I don’t think raids aren’t particularly harder than t4 fotm. This may be due how I’ve been playing for a while. Even in fotm, even in dungeons I like to know what the enemy actually does. Even if they will die in 5s.
So raids were for me an amazing piece of content!
However I’d attribute 95% of (my) raid failures to someone not having a clue about mechanics.

Now the issue here, is nowhere else in the (PvE) game do people actually have to watch what is going on very closely. Raids are a much more involved piece of content. It can be a shock, and quite daunting then to step up that far in a single leap.

I like the difficulty of the content(raids). However the great chasm people are having to cross to get into them is huge. I’m not suggesting bring down the difficulty of raids. I’m suggesting add something in between to help people develop as players, at a pace more comfortable for them. This in no way devalues raids as difficult content.

Recycling the encounters ( perhaps not even all of them, just the ones which can be easily moved to 5-man format without any changes) in my mind is an easy way for anet to add more content (not the only content) to bridge the gap without adding a huge amount of work for them.

Anet has already stated they want to add the raid mechanics into some of the fractal revamps – so it doesn’t seem like a big deal to me if they are re-skinned or not.

So lets look at what concerns people have, and see if we can solve them.

The unstated assumption seems to be that the game’s philosophy ought to be: all instances, all content, all rewards — should be available to everyone, regardless of how they play.

I’m not even bothering to read past the first paragraph.
You clearly didn’t bother to read past the thread title.

Get down of your high and mighty egocentric horse. Read the first post.
You are the one making assumptions, about the suggestion. Assumptions which are in fact wrong.

I’m not even bothering to read past the first paragraph.

The hypocrisy here is off the charts, jesus.

Just because you don’t agree with valid arguments doesn’t mean you can ignore them. Turning the raids into fractals would not be healthy. Raids are supposed to be the hardest PvE content in the game. They are designed to be harder than fractals. If you want to get in them then its on you to learn the mechanics and up your play so that you can. Its not on ANet to dumb them down so that they are accessible to you at your current level of play.

Valid argument =/= incorrect assumptions, particularly assumptions about what is in the original post.

It strikes me that you are also making assumptions about me as a player, and the content I complete. Assumptions which are also wrong by the way.

Please, stop posting incorrect assumptions and calling it valid argument.
At best it is naive. at worst it is a rude and ignorant personal attack.

As for it “being unhealthy” Please help me understand why you think that?

*Fractals, even on higher levels, are generally very easy, low pressure content. While that would make a decent environment for inexperienced players to learn, it also means that you will experience very little of the mechanics of a raid boss simply because it will be dead shortly after the fight begins.

*Spoken like a true elitist. True for maybe 10-20% of all GW2 players, complete nonsense for anyone else.

In general, I am glad for every new fractal, regardless if they recycle old stuff(but please, no Asura again! ) or make a new one.

Not really elitism, Just his(her?) opinion.
Throwing things around like that doesn’t help the topic at hand any more than baseless opinions from people who have no desire to discuss their reasoning, or the disrespect to ignore the original post. Please try to keep things constructive.

You raise an issue I hadn’t mentioned previously, being able to enjoy the encounters themselves. Personally I think the raid encounters – even if copied over and modified for fractals – should still be as challenging as they are in the raid setting. Fractals currently are mechanically too easy even at the higher levels.

It’s possible they seem easy due to the way fotm progression slowly raises the bar, which is why when jumping straight in, players such as yourself sorta might go “woah, hang on.. this is really hard!” Which is actually quite an elegant design success story as far as I’m concerned ( I know some will disagree, some like this huge chasm to try and cross).
This is another good reason why I think fractals would be a good means to introduce the raid mechanics (be that through completely new encounters, or recycling of existing ones) is a good approach.
