[Suggestion] WvW Pip Enrichment (Asc Amulets)

Something that just occurred to me.. with an enrichment for +1 pip, you’d have everyone wanting to break combat 10s before tick to swap amulets. Sure it would be inconvenient and people would forget, but the fact that would be rewarded is likely something anet should avoid.

I’m hearing about ( but yet to confirm) a video of Mckenna (sp?) saying hte loyalty pip is being renamed, and reduced to just 1 previous week of getting the wood chest to gain +1 pip. I suspect anet will monitor things for a while and see how that goes. Though I think pip gain will still be rather slow. To address that I’d move to a 5/4/3 pips/tick to match the skirmish points for placement as a server. But that feels off topic to me

Ok let’s for a second grant that my goal is to vastly outpace everyone, what is wrong with that?

As you’ve already pointed out I’m already going to do it eventually, how do you logically justify this seemingly nebulous sense of exactly how long that process should take?

What does it matter if it takes me six months or six weeks?

I’m not an anet employee. I can’t tell you why we have time gates in this game.
I can take some guesses at it, but that’s all. It’s not my job to justify them.

edit: also, you just justified it yourself

You put the time in you deserve something better than people who don’t. Equalizing output regardless of input is never a good idea.

no participation = no loot.. Moot argument.

But if I were greedy I’d want to keep things exactly as they are because as it stands there is no foreseeable future path for anyone to ever catch up to me unless they started when I did. In this way I stay ahead as long as I continue to show up and get my diamond chest, which is easy for me to do. Before you mention the finite number of things again, might I remind you that at present we’re talking like two years to finish everything. Two years. And they can always add more stuff.

two years yes, if (and ONLY IF) you want every single thing you can buy.

The only thing repeatable tickets would do is allow me to get them faster.

exactly. You want them faster. To vastly outpace everyone else. Which you will do compared to most people anyway – as most people don’t have the sheer time investment to farm that many pips every single week.

But it would also give anyone who didn’t start right at patch a path to try to catch up with me.

Only if they were to invest huge, huge amounts of time.

To me this is clearly the superior option as it allows for disproportionate output for disproportionate input.

You are already getting more loot for more input. (edit: and, if you do seriously put in that much time, you still get the repeatable chest giving more loot, just not tickets, which are essentially a hard upper limit time gate.)
Again.. You want tickets faster. To vastly outpace everyone else. You’re entire argument is centred around this point.

The refined materials used to craft the grand master marks should definitely fit into material storage. Would be good if the marks did too.

I don’t remember if these were a thing when you first examined what should go in, so it’s easy to see why they were missed.

In your opinion. Which is already there with bonus pips via rank as it is.

Reading is hard. See bold part. Also see preceding sentence for additional context.

Yes in my opinion I think old guard should have all the best stuff because they’ve put the time in. In most games the best stuff would also be superior stats and the new players would get bodied for months until they caught up gear wise. In this game it’s just aesthetics.

With the current system there’s actually more of an uphill struggle for the bunnies to get their carrots than there would be with uncapped repeatables. If a bunny hops into WvW six months from now then they’re exactly six months behind everyone who’s been getting their diamond chest every week since the patch. They can never catch up unless the people ahead of them stop playing the game and let them catch up. If anything this current system will disincentivize future bunnies from trying WvW.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/6g33ji/here_is_the_time_you_need_to_get_wvw_skirmish/

you’ve still missed the point I originally made. Most people aren’t going to finish the 6th chest each week in the first place.

Also, the bonus pips for rank already provides the old guard with more value for their one hour tomorrow than it does for new players. That bonus is already plenty high enough.

not to mention the number of rewards to spend tickets on is finite, so “catching up” is irreverent in the longest term.

But I will. All my friends will. We will finish diamond every single week we play this game unless we are either too ill to log on or quit the game. Many of us do have the time and the will to do so. Already there are people two weeks behind in terms of tickets. In a few weeks I’ll have my first t2 set and in some amount of time after that I’ll have my first set of t3. Someone entering the game at that point will be so far behind me that they’ll never be able to catch up. This does not encourage new bunnies to try the game mode in the future. Basically we’ll get whoever we get now and maybe keep them. Get in now or forever be behind. That’s not good for bunnies they don’t like that sort of thing.

Again.. Reading is hard. I see why you have so much free time to play wvw.

I don’t think that that rank bonus is high enough I’d personally give higher ranks even more. But this is an argument of taste neither of us can logically argue a preference.

The word btw is “irrelevant” and you added that part in an edit.

This is not a well thought out objection though as there are an infinite number of potential carrots that they could add in the future. The sense of a finite number of things to get is always illusory in an MMORPG.

This is how Anet can create a “gear treadmill” without actually adding statistical benefits. They will wait until a certain percentage of the population has finished t3 and Warbringer and then they’ll just add more time gated stuff. Then we’ll get a new wave of bunnies and the cycle continues ad infinitum.

Reading may be hard but it appears logic is even harder.

That isn’t logic, that’s just greed. “I want more money in case something comes along that I want”. You simply don’t like it because you, with your huge free time investment can’t vastly outpace everyone else.

you are already rewarded more than most will have the time to earn, simply be reaching the end of the non repeatable diamond chest. Stop QQing for greater class divides between old guard and new wvwers. You’ll just neuter any incentives to get into the game mode with too big of an uphill struggle to get reasonable rewards for time investment. WvW is part of a video game, stop expecting people to treat it like a full time job in the military.

There are supposed to be divides between old guard and new players and in most games it’s the quality of the gear not just how shiny it is.

There is no uphill struggle to get into the game mode other than learning how to actually play it.

The 175-ticket cap should NOT exist

in WvW

Posted by: Artemis Thuras.8795

Artemis Thuras.8795

This is ridiculous. I can’t believe so many of you are supporting the timegate. You do realize how long you will have to play for to get the skin right? Some people, believe it or not, find it absolutely ridiculous and stupid to have their game oneday decide for them they need to start spending a little bit of time over the course of 2 years to get the skins they had been promised two years prior!

This system as is, It makes the playtime of veteren wvswplayers shorter to accomplish the “weekly”. And it makes the playtime of a new wvsw player to accomplish the “weekly” an impossibly longer grind. It should be the opposite since veteren players already know the maps, have their gear maxed, are oriented with their teammates/server, and have all their wvsw points spent to make roaming a breeze.

It doesnt make sense! Wvsw players who play the most…..require the LEAST playtime? And are punished for overplaying that limit?

Its like they are trying to force their players at risk of burnout on the bench as much as possible. The reward for their honest loyal following and support of the game is less gameplay and a skin in 2 years time? WHAT?!!?! That is stupid!

This is not a player friendly addition to the gamemode AT ALL.

The tier 2 armour that was mentioned back then, doesn’t need rank 2000 though.

Yes rank 2000 is too much!…for the the ascended armor. For a legendary item, rank 2000 is perfect, but that’s not the case. Why the hell does a legendary item not require that kind of rank, but a freaking slightly shinier ascended item does? It’s completely backward.

it is just a skin though, you can get tier 2 in ascended grade.

I have zero problem with the max tickets. Right now, the system over rewards people who can play outside prime time and farm outnumbered pips.

Disregarding prime time, because that differs for people..
The current 175 is a huge time investment with anyone who isn’t ranked into the thousands. People with jobs and such are unlikely to even reach 175 tickets in a week regularly anyway.

No Loyalty Bonus

in WvW

Posted by: Artemis Thuras.8795

Artemis Thuras.8795

I would not keep the loyalty bonus as it is now. It makes no sense to punish people that can’t play a week, but it makes sense to punish people who transfer servers every few month.

I’d give people for every 6 month they have stayed on a server bonus loyalty pips (3-5-7-10-15). If you have transfered recently, you get none of this, but you still get the normal ones.
If you can’t or don’t play a week, your progress wouldn’t be lost.

The actual system seems not well designed to me.

as in.. a tweaked version of what was hyped in the blog, and (as of several hours ago) still how in-game tool tip describes it.. +1

edit: another option is use x wood chests earnt as the metric, not time.
eg: after you’ve earn 3 wood chests: +1 pip, after 9 wood chests: +2 pips. With the counter resetting on transfer. So you do need to participate to earn the bonus, without punishment for not being available every single week.

Additional clarification on “can you lose the loyalty pip if you can’t play for a week?” would be good, though it seems like the requirement for consecutive wood chests answers that.

Considering the hype caused by the blog post

Pips are earned every tick and are awarded based on the following criteria:
Your world’s position during the skirmish (first, second, or third).
Your WvW rank.
Whether you’re commanding a squad with at least five people in it.
Whether you’re fighting while outnumbered.
If you’ve been playing on the same world for at least three weeks.

Playing on the same world for at least three weeks.

I think this point needs some more clarification. At the moment the dev posts seem to imply that you have to have gotten the wooden chest for the previous 3 weeks to get your loyalty pip/tick that week. As opposed to just earning rewards for 3 weeks ( even if consecutive) as a “pay once unlock” (assuming you don’t transfer server) kinda deal.

Which is nothing like what was hyped.

as far as us players know, it’s +1/tick. but that could change, or the UI could be wrong on that too.

It may not sound like a lot, but it’ll shave a lot of time off how long it takes to get your 175 tickets in a week. Especially for those who aren’t ranked into the thousands.

We need to update the loyalty pip description.

You need to earn at least 75 pips for 3 weeks in a row to earn the loyalty bonus. We wanted players to have to participate in skirmishes to be considered loyal.

Hello, I’m not quite clear on this.

So you need to get
75+ pips on week 1
75+ pips on week 2
75+ pips on week 3

And then so long as you remain on the server, you will get the loyalty bonus?
Or will the streak reset if you miss a week, and you need to do all 3 again?

Needing to earn 100+ pips weeks 1, 2 and 3 is correct. If you miss a week you will need to do all 3 again.

*Edit: It should be 100 pips not 75. So you need to complete all of Wood Tier for 3 weeks.

How the hell do you guys manage to screw up such simple concepts so badly (Especially after hyping them?)

I think the only mistake they did was to name it “loyalty” bonus. Should have just named it activity bonus. 100 pips in a week is less than 2 hours of WvW @ 5 pips gain. Thats what most WvWers will do in an evening. Its not really a big deal maintaining that.

It’s also potentially 8+ hours. 8+ hours that you have to put in every single week without fail or you lose that pip for 3 weeks.

that is an absolutely terrible way to work it.
That discourages people who can’t guarantee they can play every week.

It makes wvw too needy. Like those tournys that you (anet) likes to claim caused massive drop off in wvw player numbers.

also the maths in this thread regarding how much difference that 1 pip/tick can make..

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/6fuzz3/so_youre_brand_new_to_wvw_and_want_to_know_how/

the TL;DR:
Anet failed to deliver the server loyalty reward that was hyped.
Anet delivered a mechanic to increase wvw burnout.

How about if ANet called it a “Commitment Booster” instead of a “Loyalty Bonus”. As many in WvW have asked for, it rewards those who spend more time more consistently.

A “Loyalty Bonus” might also be a good thing, but that doesn’t mean ANet failed to deliver; it just means it’s not to everyone’s liking.

Call it what you like.
Ultimately it’s the same thing. Enslaved to wvw, or lose/take longer to get the same loot.

20% crit dmg ? 20% dmg

in Warrior

Posted by: Artemis Thuras.8795

Artemis Thuras.8795

So I used to be under the understanding that with 100% crit chance, 10% crit damage would equal 10% damage increase. Which is entirely wrong.

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen numbers on this. The math correlates with the math a guildy talked through with me.

The rule of thumb We came up with when adding ferocity is: dps is increased by roughly half your crit damage increase(assuming 100% crit chance).

There is a point where ferocity > power, though its at quite high power.
However damage modifier > critical damage modifier – always ( be it via trait, or ferocity).

Also the reason ferocity(and power, when looking at dps % increase) has that diminishing return like effect, is because a damage modifier is an additional multiplier, while adding to critical damage is merely adding to an existing one.
AKA adding ferocity is an additive increase, while a damage modifier is a multiplicative increase.

I’d like to say that GW2 for PvE has a meta but it’s a very strict meta

You are mistaken. There is nothing strict about the meta in gw2. Even in raids.

might stacked, Shadow refuge, and 4 fgs rush through the zerg from stealth, downed entire enemy map blob, excluding about 4. Was absolutely hilarious. I wish I’d recorded it.

"Best" Physical DPS Food/Utility?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Artemis Thuras.8795

ferocity gained * crit percent * (power / 1500)

So, if you have 1000 power, 50 percent crit from precision, and the food would give you 100 ferocity, or 100 power, we can do the math:

100 ferocity = (100 * 0.5 * 0.66) = 33 points of power, equivalent.

So it makes sense to me why you multiply by power, but I’m not sure how you’re getting the power divided by 1500. I’m assuming something to do with the base 150% crit damage, but if thats correct, how does it get to be divide by 1500?

Would you mind explaining where the power/1500 comes from?

Fractals: Still fun?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Artemis Thuras.8795

It’s a subjective answer..
And I find they are mostly easier than before the cap raised from 50.

Fun.. Varies from group to group. For me It’s not fun taking people who try to do for example t4 fractals, but can’t do so without taking the most tanky of builds. Generally I think these people should still be doing t2 and learning basic mechanics.

With players who are reasonably capable ( either at dps, providing utility, whatever they’ve taken as their role within the group) then they are fun.

I have no problem with, and usually enjoy training people, but only if they have both the capacity and willingness to improve. But there is a time and a place for it.

definitely sand/dust storm. You have several other options, such as lightning surge ( staff, air #2) also applies blind, and is a decent damage hit.

You can also use things like frozen ground, or static field to keep them from getting to you so quickly. Or cyclone ( wh air #4) to pull enemies together ( great for cleaving them down faster) but also interrupting them for a moment so they can’t hit you. Even a couple of seconds can make a huge difference.

Focus is a fountain of utility for various situations too. Sometimes it’s better to take a hit to dps in favor of the extra utility.

An Idea for Toughness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Artemis Thuras.8795

So, aegis and protection become the exact same thing? potentially with a different scale only?

Stab becomes: reduces length of fear, knockdown, float, reduces distance of blowout/knockback?

That stab change would probably melt a few servers with the extra calculations. Particularly wvw ones.

Making aegis not actually block an attack, but purely behave as a high scaled % protection is in line with the smiter’s boon nerf of gw1.
This would also require a huge complicated overhaul of the code for stability, and control effects.

That definitely wouldn’t end well.

Right click
Salvage All Blue and Lower
Salvage All Green and Lower
Salvage All Yellow

Those are your options. I use the copper fed for Salvage all green and lower, and the Mystic kits for Salvage all yellow. In both cases it will ask you for confirmation in a menu where it displays all items that will be salvaged

This.

Having it be salvage all rare and below means I would have to remember to salvage masterwork and below first with copper-fed, before using mystic kit on rares.

Changing “all rare”, to “all rare and below” would be a QoL reduction imo.

The new map is very pretty and all.
But I hate how long it takes to get to certain areas from a WP.

There is one particular champion devourer event, that is required for an achievement, which can take 10 minutes to run to.

The town/outposts in gw1, and the waypoints in gw2 are the best part of tyria. Having to run marathons to get to content is not fun. Waiting for people to run marathons to kill a big champion is not fun.

The map could seriously do with another couple of waypoints in it. As it is, replay is very boring. “Exploring” is only fun the first handful of times. After that it becomes tedious.

Please do not follow this trend for the next expansion, or those maps will be absolutely horrible to attempt to replay. If leaks are to be believed – no, adding mounts will not make this somehow better. Running faster though voids does not make a map in any way better or more fun.

also, nuhock wallows (aka, some kind of teleporter) >>>>> any form of mount or run faster thing.

It wasn’t ruled out entirely if I remember correctly, but also the general plan at the time was not to add any more tiers of gear after ascended (or legendary, which mirrors ascended statistically).

I really hope we don’t get a new tier of gear to grind (legendary notwithstanding) , it’d be really tedious at this point.

So this comes with the caveat of: it’s speculation.

I suspect anet is balancing around new elite specs, and have been for at least 6 months or so.

So, considering the leaks/rumours/whatever about warrior, spellbreaker, and dual daggers.. This could be pulling inspiration from gw1 skills very easily.

https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Assault_Enchantments
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Shattering_Assault

These two look like candidates for spell-breaker-y skill inspiration.

If that’s true then the new elite specs better be kitten well balanced at release. As it is, its pretty unforgivable to have classes almost untouched balance wise for a year+

I didn’t mean to imply the possible balancing would be good. merely that I think they are trying. But yes, it would be nice if they release with something resembling balance.

[Suggestion] Sigils that give +5

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Artemis Thuras.8795

Artemis Thuras.8795

Except then..
Bloodlust would completely outclass Force,
Perception would completely outclass Accuracy,
Corruption would completely outclass Bursting.

At 25 stacks, they already do ( usually, and usually at a little less than 25 stacks).
The whole reason you need to build those stacks is the trade off between having the benefit immediately available, or having to build stacks.

ex: accuracy sigil gives 7% crit chance, flat.
Perception gives 10 precision per stack. 21 precision = 1% crit chance.
7 × 21 = 147, or 15 stacks on a perception sigil. AKA 15+ stacks of perception > accuracy sigil.

Druid, why Magi?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Artemis Thuras.8795

Artemis Thuras.8795

There are a few reasons why magi’s makes sense:

You’re quite right about the overheal, often you could run magi’s armour, and use zerker trinkets, and still have enough healing.

You might run sword & warhorn/axe along with staff, so you can switch to a more “dps” weapon – augmented by the berserker trinkets you may have equipped.

Typically, if your healers die, your raid is /gg. So a bit of vitality is usually good for ensuring that scenario doesn’t happen. Though too much is a liability since there are so many attacks that do a flat percentage of your hp as damage.

Druid is very much about min-maxing to fit your group.

There does come a point where you’d be better off running a full zerker druid with staff offset for emergencies, or even a full viper druid. But that scenario is a very high calibre group.

The UI could be vastly streamlined ( like that warning on profession buffs.. just make it red text in the option box). Something like the options dialog would be good, with a form using tick boxes ( or sliders for might?). Then just have a “boon section” and “class x buffs” for groupings with a subheading.

greater free-form on gear/runes/sigils along with “consumable buffs” would be amazing too.

Only downside is the arena currently I think is flagged as a raid map, and this level of sweeping improvements might justify flagging the map as its own game type (so consumable buffs can’t be grabbed and then carried over to other instances).

Endless Miniature Tonic Topic

Artemis Thuras.8795

Back in the day, like 2002 in very early internal testing, the hit box was not standard, and one of our clever programmers made all sorts of tiny characters to enable him to avoid getting hit.

I do wonder if certain races actually do have greater agility for jumping puzzles. I’ve had people say “Make a norn, they have a better gait” where others have said, “My asura is way better at JPs than any of my other characters” and everything in between. Think there’s any truth in that?

if there is, its miniscule.

However asura jumping is extremely impressive ( since they can jump roughly the same height/distance as a norn) relative to their size.

I panic thinking my asurans aren’t going to make a jump that is above head height, but they do.

The only way I’d know for sure is to use GH decorations, and set things on the absolute height & distance limits of one race, and test the jumps on another race.
