I enjoyed it but perhaps that’s because this was the first time where I spent a significant amount of time playing WvW. I agree, however, that it seems to be more about the number of bodies you can have online in a 24 hour period than it is about anything else. A good commander can do things that a bad commander can’t but if you don’t have the bodies, none of it really matters.
My only recommendation is make sure you implement it so that small guilds can be involved as well. Guild missions are a great example of something that small guilds can’t really do. If the guild hall requires tokens in a similar manner, small guilds are essentially shut out.
You still need to make a guild work for it just the same having a one man guild hall just because you where able to pay to make a guild and pay for the influence to “buy” a guild hall realty takes out the meaning behind having a places for your guild.
Small guilds can do guild mission just not as fast now one man guilds cant do guild mission and that a good thing.
I like to see guild halls be more on the lines of pvx where you get a very basic guild hall from some guild mission and influence but you can get different looking ones by completing events with a % of your guild in that event. For both pve events and pvp/wvw events.
Having more of a pvp guild hall where you set up events where ppl can attk your keep is a cool idea but then you run into A. do you let ppl attk other guild keeps “guild halls” when ever they want to (leading to needing ppl to be on all the time of your keep going to get grifed) B. have a system to let ppl attk you a set up pvp system (odd to let some one attk you it just do not feel like a real places if it that way well to me.)
I’m certainly not talking about one person guilds. I agree with you there. No need for a guild hall in that situation. However, small guilds can’t necessarily do guild missions. I’ve got maybe 30 players in my guild with a dozen or so active. Very rarely do I have 5 on at the same time. Guild missions are pretty much not an option for our guild.

Yeah, Black Citadel layout isn’t very good. It’s a big part of why I won’t do another map completion. That has been the most frustrating zone for me.
I’ve leveled all classes to 80 now and I spend most of my time in open world pve. My warrior is the most fun but anytime I have something challenging I keep going to back to my ranger. I just enjoy that play style the most.
tpcalc.com
Use it.
Thanks for this. I’ll use that until they fix it internally.
I just want to know how much money I’ll get back upon selling the item. Currently, I know how much it’ll sell for, listing tax, and selling tax, but then have to do the math myself to figure out how much I’ll actually bring back.
I’ve been around for a while and still don’t really get it.
No idea but…since you’ll only ever need one and can’t sell them, why would you ever keep more than one of each?
I usually do all of the pve ones that I feel like doing that day, to a minimum of 5 for the reward. I will very occasionally do the pvp or wvw ones but that’s just if I feel like doing something extra and have the time. I’m not really rushing for the AP, though, I just want the laurels.
When I did both of my sets, I just farmed the gold and bought everything I could from the TP.
I like the idea.
When I crash it’ll be 3-4 times back to back, each within minutes of getting a character into the game. No idea why. It started happening within the last month and as far as I know nothing has changed on my computer.
Might want to try checking a few sites that have guides on leveling post 400. I wasn’t in the same boat at the OP but it might help show some that were missed.
Is EQN being run by SOE? If so, I wouldn’t bank on it taking over. SOE wasn’t capable of balancing the relatively few classes in EQ1, let alone anything as ambitious as 40 classes.
Yeah, lack of trinity is nice because, unless you’re one of those 3, you’re not valued. Frankly, I’m surprised that people like the holy trinity. It’s very limiting.
I like the effects. I just don’t have a character that would use them.
For some, like myself, it’s also about having a long term goal. I have an 80 of every class now, all fully geared in exotic. One in full ascended. I’ve wvw’d, pvp’d, dungeon’d, fractal’d. But I haven’t done the grind for Legendary yet. So, that’s the current plan until I either get bored and move on to something else, or finish that up and then struggle to find another goal.
I’d prefer that they don’t remove another way for characters to make money. The junk items aren’t worth a whole lot individually but that stuff can add up.
I don’t mind the jumping aspect, I just despise the time requirement on the crystals. I tend to miss my jumps A LOT, which makes the new zones very frustrating to me. I can get over that, though, because I know it’s just a matter of getting the jump right. But having to start over when the timer runs out just raises that frustration to an even higher level. I know I’ll eventually get it as well (I did when doing Dry Top) but I don’t play the game to be frustrated so LS has become a thing that I’ll do when I get all of the fun stuff done first.
Personally, the only thing that matters to me is if I like the skin enough to change a character’s appearance for it. I’m not really bothered by method to attain or rarity.
Ahh, I just now figured out what you meant about the cursor. No, you can’t program that to the orbweaver or any minikeyboard device as far as I know.
A related topic … I’m still on the fence for something like an orbweaver. CIrcle strafing for me is no possible with a keyboard/mouse layout. If the thumb joystick on the orbweaver can be programmed for cursor targetting, I’m home free.
Can anyone confirm is that’s the case?
I use an orbweaver for my left hand. The joystick has 8 positions that can be programmed so, if what you need can be keybound, then it will work on the orbweaver joystick.
Hot join is your problem. There’s no coordination in those matches. It’s all just a dps fest to kill other players instead of take objectives and win the match. If you start playing solo or team q’s, you’ll see more of the good stuff in pvp.
Always try to be in a group when part of a big zerg. Whether or not you get the bags is dictated (I believe) by the percentage of damage you do. When grouped, you get credit for the damage the group does as well.
As answered above, drop rarity (white, green, orange) is decided by your level and level of the boss. I’d guess there’s some randomness in there as well.
End game for GW2 is about making yourself look pretty. If you’ve done map completion and don’t care about ascended/legendary…there isn’t a whole lot for you I guess. Are you interested in achievement farming? what about living story? anything other than that is “same ole same ole” in my opinion. Dungeons, fractals, jumping puzzles, wvw, pvp, world boss farming, etc. You said you’ve done zerg for WvW. Have you tried doing that outside of the zerg? Depending on your server, you may have havoc teams or solo/duo players who just run around and mess with the other teams.
I don’t think you’re really missing out on anything. As others have said, this game is really more about do what you want than do what the game requires. There’s no requirement to do certain things at certain times like other mmo’s. Anything you discover or get interested in later can still be done with no negative. I’d recommend save all mats in your crafting tab in the bank. Until you’ve been playing for quite some time, you’re unlikely to know what you’ll really want to keep.
For crafting, the wiki is a good starting place. Alternatively, you can do a google search for “gw2” and whichever crafting discipline you’re interested in. You’ll see plenty of guides that will give you shortcuts on the fastest or best method to raise skill. Just keep in mind, the results of crafting while leveling up aren’t very useful these days. It’s usually a kitteneaper just to buy whatever gear you want instead of using the mats to make it yourself. While crafting does give exp, and can be used as a leveling option itself, I wouldn’t recommend that for your first character.
When I was crafting, I used a guide. There’s plenty available to choose from on the internet. I used gw2crafts.net but there’s many other options.
I love the idea of ascended weapons being the precursor. Of course, I also freely admit it’s a very self-serving desire because I already have multiple ascended weapons. That would take out, in my opinion, the single biggest road block for me to consider going for a legendary.
Legendary is just a word. It invokes certain imaginary visions of what that should mean but, it’s just a word. For the purposes of GW2, it’s just another rarity version. It’s like saying “Exotics aren’t really exotic if everyone has one.”
Not that I know of. I get around that issue by tab targetting.
Pretty sure it will all be available after the 15th.
What is the advice for completing exploration on the WvW maps? It seems like unless you happen to show up when your side is rocking’ it and has the whole map conquered, you’re kinda hosed for finishing these areas.
On my server, we pretty much own one map each week. Since that one can change, it’s just a matter of time until I have 3 of the 4 needed.
I’m not sure on EB, though. Still working on that part. So far, it’s just been a matter of knowing when my server is most active and run with the zerg when they are on EB.
I like the idea of moving the Leave Guild option. I’ve almost let my guild many times….and I’m the guild leader. I also really like the idea of a guild commander tag. I pretty much only use my commander tag when doing things with my guild.
Only thing i noticed for me is an increased droprate of Locked BL Chests, not keys.
Same here. I feel like I get at least one a day now.
I’ve gotten a few lately but all have been from map completion. I couldn’t tell you the last time I got one as a random drop from mobs.
One of the things I really liked about WoW was the inclusion of heirloom items to assist in leveling alts. Not sure if ascended are the way to go but I’ve love for them to implement something like that here.
Sorry. didn’t realize my posting had to meet the standards of some random stranger on the internet.
By “everything else” I mean, just about every other event out there. On my server, unless you were doing world bosses, the current Living Story, or Queensdale, every zone was pretty much a ghost town. Now, there’s people just about everywhere. That helps with the unpopulated areas but hurts the areas/events that were already populated.
I think it ruined some events and helped others. Ruined the high level stuff like Orr or world bosses but helped just about everything else.
The timing between releases doesn’t really matter anymore, imo. Since it’s permanent and instanced, I can run through it whenever I feel like it. So far, at least, everything has been soloable as well so there’s not even a concern about not being able to get a group if you wait too long. Good stuff.
For low level areas, go to the cave in the south east of Outcast’s Cleft in Wayfarer Foothills. Lots and lots of Svanir with reasonably quick respawn. Or, try the troll cave in Altar Brook Vale. Lots of grubs there that could be grouped up pretty easily.
Use the guide below and search for Crafted. Not sure if it will show all crafting skins or just most.
I’ve made my ascended armor for “free” when they where introduced. I stocked all the mats to level up armorsmith to 500 and I sold the 20 exotics i made to buy everything I needed for my armor
Unfortunately, you can’t buy vision crystals or their ingredients, which means they are a necessary grind if you want to craft them.
the vision crystal part of ascended is meant to represent playing the game world, over the economy. It isnt that hard to do actually, if you do the best thing for each currency.
WvW for a day or 2 will get you enough bloodstone and empyreal, 7 orrian world events will get you the dragonite, (which probably takes about 70-95 minutes of playtime. each dungeon path gives like 20 a path, soo 10 dungeon paths, i guess this is the grindiest part, unless you are speed running specific paths, but you can also get empyral from treasure chests if you prefer doing that.
I’d like to know how “7 orrian world events will get you the dragonite”. The most I’ve seen from one event is temples, which reward 30 dragonite. You need 500 for one vision crystal. That would be 17 events and temples aren’t exactly common due to megaserver. Also, “WvW for a day or 2” only works if you are on a map that is doing EotM. I’ve been there a few times now since everyone says that’s the place to be and have yet to see my server actually doing it.
There’s a bunch that usually farm in Cursed Shore as well but EotM is by far the quickest way currently.
I don’t know what the answer is but there needs to be an improvement in the story rewards. At this point, there’s very little incentive to do it other than certain achievement points. My wife recently finished hers. Took a couple of weeks going through it off and on. At the end her answer to me was “I feel like I just wasted weeks of my time”.
I have 2 full sets made, no pieces from chest drops. One medium set for my ranger and one heavy set for my warrior. For my tastes, the worse grind was getting the empyreal and dragonite ore than anything else. I had the time gated stuff done long before those.
It depends on how competitive you want to me. For most pvp/wvw, you don’t need it. But at the high end, every little bit counts. Me personally, while I’m horrible at pvp/wvw, I couldn’t imagine playing with just a regular mouse/keyboard.
I know I’d prefer fire shaman to at least be on the list. I’m guessing it was an oversight.
Nothing has happened to it. In the past, you had raised 3 crafting skills but only had 2 “learned” at any given time. You could go to that third crafting trainer and swap it out for a bit of silver.
That is still how it works. Now, however, ANet has added something where you can have 3 “learned” crafting skills at a time. It can save you a bit of money in that regard.
