I doubt you will get the answer you are looking for, as I doubt that ArenaNet is going to give you information that could possibly lead to what their detection methods for illegal third-party programs are. If that information gets known, it could allow the producers of those programs re-engineer them so as to avoid detection better.
Unfortunately not. They do not have the ability to refund or replace items purchased via karma or laurels.
Unfortunately, this is not something that Support will be able to assist with. Ascended items purchased from the vendor are marked as unique, meaning that you can only equip one of them. Support will not be able to exchange the item for a different one or refund the purchase.
Unfortunately, this is not something that Support will be able to assist you with. You will need to wait until you are able to put in another transfer and then continue with your move. Support will not be able to move your account for you, nor will they be able to refund the gems used in the first transfer.
Anytime a report is filed, the report is viewed by someone in Support at ArenaNet decides on action. There is not a machine that does the work, actual human beings read the reports and make the decisions. So, if you have not done anything that violates policies, the reports are meaningless. Simply voicing an opinion – as long as it is not harrassing, vulgar, or the like – is not a reason for being suspended or banned.
I would not chance it. ArenaNet have been pretty clear in their statements on macros.
The only time that a roll-back like this is used is to restore hacked accounts to a point prior to the hack. ArenaNet have stated many, many times that they are unable to assist when items are lost, misplaced, deleted, or purchased incorrectly by the players.
ArenaNet have clearly stated their policies. You were reported by someone for using offensive language, an actual human being at ArenaNet reviewed the report and felt it was justified. So, you were suspended from the game.
Next time, avoid the situation and don’t even speak to the other person. Better yet, play on a different server and you won’t even run into him.
Server population is first-come-first-served. Each server has a limit to the number of people that can play on that server. Essentially, the only way to “balance” the current population on your server would be to ask others already there to leave. Hardly fair to them, when your friend can simply choose another server to play on and he can guest to your server or you can guest/transfer to his.
The boxes themselves do not arrive in the mail, they arrive on the bottom right of the screen above where the default position of the map lies, like when you get the reward for a zone completion.
It is entirely possible that your father’s account has been accessed by someone else, aka hacked, and the actions of that other person is what has caused the account closure. He will need to file a ticket with Support on the issue and work with the ArenaNet Team in recovering his account if this is the case. In the meantime, he should be thoroughly inspecting his computer to ensure he has no nasties on it that could have lead to the hacking.
It is possible that something you said days ago is what has caused the suspension. If you said something that another player filed a report on, someone at ArenaNet will review that report and act on it if required. It is not an instantaneous reporting system, it is retro-active and reviewed by a live person before actioned.
Character names are not server-specific, they are game-wide. What this means is that if there is a character named “Goreville” on any server within the game, you will not be able to use that name, even if they are on a different server than yours. As Astral suggested, try adding something else to the name.
You have tried contacting the player about the name, though if they have not yet seen the email or chose to ignore it, there is nothing you can do about that. If the other player did decide to let you have the name, they would need to change their characters name first. You would need to wait 24 hours and then it should be available – on a first-come-first-served basis. So, if someone else grabs it before you can get to it, it is gone for you.
Can I make a suggestion to the player population – when you come across a bug in-game, REPORT IT! If you had done the puzzle and fell through the world, report it. Then it is at least on file in their systems somewhere that you did not intentionally do something you should not have. By reporting the issue, you may also bring it to the developers attention quicker, thereby hopefully preventing others from the same problem.
I’m glad I’m not the only one this happens to. It seems to happen if close the Trading Post window and then try to reopen it right away, though I have had it happen reopening the Trading Post after an extended period. I had not heard of the trick with changing language, so will give this a try next time. The only thing I found to fix it was to exit completely out of the game and then log back in again.
My initial impression is that yes, it would be against EULA. However, I will also say that if someone did do this, there would be NO support for either the buyer or the seller should something go wrong or someone get scammed in any way.
According to the first attachment, you were given the reason for the account being closed. The account was found to be violation of the users agreement. The account was found to have been involved with selling in-game items for cash, either actually selling the items or gathering the items for another to sell.
Since this action is against the users agreement, the account was closed. It had nothing to do with the donation.
Hopefully they do realise that some campus networks will block traffic like thid from their networks. There may be no reason why they could not play as far as ArenaNet are concerned, but the campus IT staff may have put blocks in place to prevent their network from being used for traffic outside of educational use.
To Now, I’m being civil, but considering the fact that World of Warcraft’s GMs are able to reverse next to anything that happens (even due to player error, as in this case,) I think this is a problem.
Sorry, but what goes on in another game is of no relevance to this game. The Support Staff currently do not have the ability to restore lost items or refund mistaken purchases. This has been public knowledge for a long time now, it is not something new. There may come a time when this function becomes available, though I would expect there be a limit to how far back they will be able to go. I would not be expecting lost items from the beginning to suddenly become recoverable.
As for mistaken purchases, to be honest, that comes down to “buyer beware” – take your time when making purchases and you will greatly reduce the likelyhood of making a mistake. It doesn’t take long, only a few seconds really, to read the tooltip assigned to your intended purchase and ensure the item you have selected is indeed the one you want.
In the end, this whole thing is very simple. ArenaNet have made the decision to not allow third-party applications (mods) when playing their game. Though many of these applications would be used for simple reasons, others may find certain advantages over the game or other players when using these applications.
The majority of players will not seek to take advantage, however there is a small minority that will. ArenaNet could put together a list of applications that are ok to use and those that are not ok to use. Let’s just say that application X is used to a benign purpose, so is added to the OK list. It is later found to allow players under certain cirmcumstances to gain some advantage over others. ArenaNet could then add that application to the Not OK list, but then have to rely on players from stopping using it.
It is much easier for everyone (ArenaNet as well as us players) if they just come out in the beginning and say none of them are ok. This way, we all know not to use them, and that all players are on equal footing.
As for why first-person view is not available – simply put, that is the way they designed the game. If they had been able to make it available (or wanted to), it would be. They have their reasons, and whether we think it is “logical” or not, we have to accept it.
Just a crazy thought – have you mentioned to Support that he was visiting you for a week and logging into his account from a different country? That very well have raised some flags on the account, leading to the termination. If he normally logs in from Country A, but all of a sudden is logging in from Country B, and then back to Country A, it may have looked suspicious to the team members reviewing the account. Give them full information about where he lives, what ISP he connects to, where you live and your ISP, as well as the dates that he was visiting. You never know, it may help.
Whether you had your response directed at another player or not is irrelevent. Nobody else that was able to see your comment, nor the ArenaNet Support people reviewing the reports, would have had any way of determining that you were just talking out loud to yourself and not directing the comment at someone else. It is not a justification for being able to use inappropriate language in public channels. I would suggest that in the future, you limit your comments to channels that are not public or on voice comms to your friends.
I might suggest that if you wish to speak in the main channels (map or local), you do so in English. If you wish to speak in your native language, especially if using Asian characters), it could be seen by other players as potentially hacked accounts with the hackers communicating with each other to prevent the rest of the players from understanding. There is the possiblity that you or your friends could be reported as potentially hacked. In private channels, such as guild, part or whisper, you should be able to use whatever you like as nobody outside those groups could see what is being said.
I found that step was very hard on my elementalist – until I realised that I had not upgraded her armor, weapon or accessories in a many levels. Once I did upgrade them to level-appropriate, I was able to complete the stage. I also had a second person sitting on stand-by in case they were needed for the help, but was able to complete it without them. That said, you can always ask another person to come along with you to make it easier (and more fun).
Unfortunately, this type of item will not be replaced or refunded. They already have clearly stated they do not have the ability at this time to refund the purchase or replace it with the item you were looking for. It simply comes down to the players needing to be sure of your purchase before finalising it.
As far as I am aware, there are no automatic controls to prevent names from being used, other than those that are already in use by other players or NPC’s, or quite possibly a list of certain keywords. When you create a character and name it, I suspect there is no automatic “check” to see if the name fits in with ArenaNet’s policy. I also suspect that there is nobody in their offices that scan through lists of character names to see that they are ok or not.
In order to have a character flagged for renaming, someone needs to report it to ArenaNet. This is most often done by other players. Once the report is recieved by Support, the request is reviewed by a human being in Support and not by a computer. You may have had a particular name for several months, however it could be tthe name was not reported as potentially unsuitable until recently.
I have heard that if you do not have any characters on the account, you can transfer without needing gems. That would mean, though, that you would have to delete any and all characters on your account before you could do this. Your only other alternative is to save up some in-game gold to convert to gems or to save up for a bit in order to purchase gems.

ArenaNet have already stated that they cannot refund mistaken purchases like this.
It is up to each individual to be careful in their in-game purchases to ensure they get the correct items they are looking for. It is not hard to take one extra second and read the descriptions on the piece before purchasing. Use this as a learning experience to take more time and double check before just clicking away.
I would like to comment here to those in America that the people in Australia DO realise the connotation of that particular word, the meaning behind it, and it is NOT used in normal, daily conversations. Maybe amongst certain age brackets, though unfortunately that seems to be rather prevalent both in Australia as well as in America.
As for DanceGavinDance – you need to remember that conversation in-game is done via text, where it can be very difficult to determine when someone is joking around or serious based simply on words on a screen. Whether you intended your comment to be a joke or not, it was extremely offensive and the appropriate action has been taken by AreanNet. You are free to appeal the suspension, but I suspect (and would expect) it to be upheld.
You can also look at the headers from the emails to determine whether the message came from ArenaNet or not. You’ll need to check the Help file within your emai program as to how to do this, as each program is different as well as the steps within different versions of the same program (like Outlook) can be different.
Unless you KNOW the email is genuine, NEVER follow links found in emails. You are much better off, getting a notice like the above, to open a fresh browser window and go to the official Support or Account pages yourself than to follow email links.
ArenaNet cannot do anything to assist you here. Get in contact with the moderators of the forum and report the malicious use of your name to them. It is then up to them as to how they want to handle it – and the answer could be they do nothing.
Ensure you use a quality anti-virus program and anti-malware program. Regularly update them and perform scans to ensure you have not picked up anything. There are web sites out there that have malicious code embeded where you can become infected just by viewing the site. With quality anti-virus and anti-malware, you should at least be alerted if they pick up something. If they do, get the computer inspected and cleaned before attempting to log into anything secure (like your game accounts or online banking, for example).
Never use the same email address and password for everything you do on the internet. Set up a “garbage” email account that you can use for forums or other sites, but have a seperate “good” email account that you use for secure programs and sites. When sending email out, use the “garbage” account or another account, don’t use the “good” one unless you fully trust who you are sending to. This way, if the receiver does something like my dad where he forwards emails without cleaning the senders address, at least your “good” address does not get forwarded around to people you don’t know.
ALWAYS use a different password for everything on the internet. Re-using the same email address and password for several forums as well as you games could potentially be where your details were farmed, as the security on some forums isn’t great and there have been contact lists stolen. If you need to keep track of the passwords you are using, set up a spreadsheet, or for something more secure use KeePass. It’s a free program that you can install where you can not only record the usernames and passwords for multiple sites/accounts, it even has a random password generator if you need to create a new one.
When you created your account, you were given notice via the ToS/EULA that there were certain things ArenaNet expects of you in order to have an account with them. You accepted those agreements, and created your account. One of the items that you agreed to was not to use profanity or other potentially offensive words when communicating in the game or on the forums. It appears, based on your report above, that you did violate that and as a result have received a suspension from play.
Just because there is a filter does not give anyone automatic right to use profanity or other offensive language. The filter is there for those who wish to use it, but it is an option only. It may be used by parents who do not wish their children to see certain words, and it is possible that some adults prefer to not use it. It is up to each individual whether they wish to use it or not.
The jugs of karma are account based, not character based. As long as you deposit the reward in your bank, you can then pull it back out on any character on that account.
My best suggestion to you is to be quick. When you see them all of a sudden appear, click on them and then very quickly right click on their portrait and add them to your contacts list. From there, you can report the account for botting. Your other alternative is to take a screenshot when they are gathering at the node, and use that to gather the name. You cannot easily report them via the Support function, but you can add them to your contacts and report them from there. Once reported, don’t forget to remove them from your contacts so the list doesn’t grow too huge.
There are no refunds for karma or laurel items at this point in time. The best suggestion is to be very careful before buying anything – make sure that the item is the correct item for that character before purchasing. There is a roll-back system in place, though it is reserved for accounts that are stolen and not for situations such as this.
ArenaNet have asked us players to change the passwords on our accounts for our security. Many people are in the habit of using the same password for multiple accounts on the internet – email, forums, Facebook, etc. These passwords get known to hackers via malware and other methods, and then are used by the hackers to try to access your accounts. As such, ArenaNet have taken the step of creating a listing of all these known passwords, and add to that list any passwords in use on X date. They have then asked us players to create a new password for our accounts.
The system is able to go through that list at the time you are trying to change your password, and if your choice appears on that listing, the system will not allow you to use that password. It is being refused for your protection – because the new one you have chosed may have already been known to hackers – and ArenaNet are trying to help you to keep your account from being stolen.
When choosing a new password, my suggestion is to make it random – randomly mix letters and numbers, some of the letters in capitals, and add some symbols to it. The longer it is, the better. Use the lyrics from your favorite song, taking the first letter of each word, as the basis. Try making a few different variations before trying to change it, and write down your original as well as all variations, crossing off any that are not used.
There is also a great, FREE, program called KeePass (www.keepass.info). It is a password safe. You set up a database for yourself with one master password to log into KeePass, and from within you can store all the passwords to anything you do on the internet. You can also have it generate and remember a new, random password for you at any time that you can copy and then paste into the login screen for your application.
Zish, personally, I would not worry yourself or feel guilty about reporting this person for botting. Someone in Support will read your report and investigate the account, and if this person is indeed botting, they will attend to it. I suspect that the account will receive a suspension and warning to remove the third-party programs initally, but if the player continues to use them after coming back from their suspension, the account will most likely be closed.
One thing people are forgetting – if you delete your characters, you are also deleting the bank. So, anything you had put into the bank, including coin, would be lost when the characters are deleted.
If you are repeatedly getting your account stolen, it is quite possible that you may have some sort of nasty on your computer that is recording your keystrokes. I would suggest doing a very thorough inspection and clean of the machine to make sure there is no keyloggers or other malware on the machine. Once complete, the Support Team can assist you in getting your account back under your control.
I would also suggest, like Michael above, in creating a brand new email account somewhere safe and askign Support to change the email address your account is linked to. Use a very good, new password for your email account and a different, even stronger one, for the game. Your ISP should be able to help you if you need an email account, I don’t know that I would be trusting the “free” accounts that are available out there.
I did run into this a while back when changing the password on my account. I found that the change did not take, and I could only log in using the old password. Give it a bit of time and try it again. It could be that the account server(s) are just so busy processing other changes at that time that it did not register your change. I let mine sit for about a week and changed it again, and that time it took. But, that was well before the required change.
Eosin, you are being a good child. As someone who also lives a great distance from their parents, in my case they are in the US while I am in Australia, I do know the frustrations you can have when attempting to discuss something even remotely computer-related to someone not quite as familar with working with computers or the internet. I do hope you are able to work with ArenaNet Support on this, and resolve the issue for your father.
You should open a ticket with Support. I’m not sure that they can change the display name or not, but these would be the only ones that could help you.
Gaile is right, people. Yes, in an ideal world, everyone would be able to play on the server of their choice. However, in the real world, servers have a limit to the number of players that can be on at any one time. Those who are trying to set up / transfer to a server listed as Full will just have to wait until a time when it is not listed as Full. Full means Full, as in a full glass means it will hold no more. Some must be removed before more can be added.
Instead of just deleting the messages, report the message first. On the bottom right of the message is a link to report the message, write Gold Seller or RMT (or something like that) as the reason and then report the message. Afterwards you can delete it.
Those messages are coming from accounts that have been hacked, and by using the report function, you are notifying ArenaNet of the compromise. They can suspend the account until the account holder is able to get control of the account again.
And this is why I refuse to pug anything. If I can’t run it with friends or guild members, I’ll wait until such a time as they are available.
There are no physical servers located in the Asia/Pacific area, all servers are US based. However, Sea of Sorrows is the “unofficial” Australian/Asian server. From what I understand, though, it is very highly populated and you may have trouble moving to it. You’ll have to watch the populations and move when it drops off full.
It will probably take a few days for them to work their way through to your ticket. They work tickets in the order in which they were received, so try to be a bit patient and they will get back to you. Unfortunately, support is the only folks to be able to help you.
