This post really blew the kitten up! haha
The issue is more complex than just the damage side. It works like that in the other direction too.
Both extremes, either extreme DPS/Offense or extreme survivability/defense seem to be viable builds in PvP.
Warriors, Thieves and Mesmers especially tend to lean to the extreme offense side of things while Guardians, Elementalists, Engineers and Necros tend to favor extremely defensive builds.
Rangers feel a little left out because they don’t lend themselves well to either extreme.
The core issue is that “balanced” build just can’t compete in an environment dominated by extreme builds.
What we need is Diminishing Returns on both offensive and defensive stats.
I’ve played against extremely good bunker and and burst rangers. It comes down to playing your class well. Most people tend to avoid rangers because of what the community says regarding them. Also the larning curve seems to be a bit more steep. However, to say that they “don’t lend themselves well to either extremes,” is false.
well then, if it’s that much of a no-brainer, i’d suggest equipping the knights amulet.
I fail to see what the problem is. …. 5k health or 50% crit? where are these numbers coming from?! lol. Theorycraft more, and practice more. That’s what makes this game so fun.
I agree. This forum seems to be a giant toilet; people are constantly kittenting in it. Most of the problems are not mechanic based, just subjective opinions. Instead of theorycrafting and practice, some players feel that the game should play for them.
I could never play WoW again after playing gw2.
In regards to death-match style arenas in gw2. If you really stop to think about it, it would be a pretty kittenty experience. As much as people enjoy this style of pvp, i don’t foresee it anytime in the near future. gw2 was not designed to support this type of gameplay….
I enjoyed reading this. I would tend to say stay on point, but this can be very situational. If your team can verify that the other four opponents are elsewhere, than chasing down the thief might not be such a bad idea. just make sure he doesn’t sneak around you.
Just opened my dragon chest and can confirm 10000 pieces of loot. over
In regards to the first video…
There is no information about your opponent. He is just standing there; for all we know, he has no runes and is not traited….
kind of embarrassing tbh
I’ve been playing pvp, and only pvp, since open beta weekends, and for essentially every day since release. I have not become even slightly bored with the pvp offered in gw2.
those bashing quickness and asking for it’s removal, are asking for the game to be made easier. If there is no quickness, the game becomes more mindless.
No, those people who doesn’t want Quickness to removed and are actively defending it are the ones who want to have the game easier and more mindless/skilless.
I’m proposing the opposite. And I have given my points. The players asking for it’s removal seem to have trouble dealing with opponents utilizing quickness. Therefore, removing quickness, in sense, creates an easier playing field for players who have not learned how to overcome these “op” opponents.
Quickness poses no problem for me.
I have no problem with haste, and think it is a great implementation. Quickness is not too strong or bursty; it’s current state is fine. Essentially, posts like this, i.e., those bashing quickness and asking for it’s removal, are asking for the game to be made easier. If there is no quickness, the game becomes more mindless. You can decrease your awareness and not worry about dodging and evading burst attacks…
It is far from impossible to counter glass-cannon builds who utilize quickness. In fact, with practice (some more so than others), it becomes fairly easy and routine.
Ex post facto… if quickness isn’t the problem?…..

I don’t think it is possible to change it… or at least i was unaware as to how

I noticed my display name was changed. I don’t care why, just want to make sure ANet did it, so i can sleep better at night.
Agree on all except downed state (i love it) and the combat is pretty good, i coulnt play WoW after playing this, i would be just trying to dodge or move quickly.
^^^^
Tried out mists of pandaria, and stopped cuz i couldnt roll. Played WoW for 6 years, and could never go back after this game
I think that the guild wars 2 pvp can be much more fun if we are able to use more than 3 utility skills, maybe 6 – 8 utilities ?
I understand that they are trying to make the combat and build much more depth with only 3 skills to pick from, but i felt like having only 3 utility skills is just doing the opposite of what they are trying to do.
Because some skills are just plain useless and with only 3 options to choose from, there is no way those useless skills going to be viable or used, which is why you see a lot of class use similar utilities over and over.
Ok, so now you have allowed a guardian to have all spirit weapons in combat, stability shout, condition removal, etc…
Everything would have to be reworked. Its not as easy as adding a few more boxes to the UI
Also my original post was in defense of the game. I purchased Gw2 fully aware of what the game was and what it intends to be. I have no complaints, and my expectations have been fulfilled.
It’s like people buying vanilla ice-cream, knowing it’s vanilla ice-cream, and then complaining that it’s not chocolate.
Well… it is a great game. Also, most of the people with issues are really bad and just whine. Honestly, I very rarely see any constructive criticism in these forums. Anet never lied to anyone, everyone knew what the game was going to be like. I don’t understand why people continue to play if they are so upset? I loled at “NEVER massively altered”. Why the kitten would anyone do that? Are you suggesting that ANet creates a new game? GREAT IDEA!!!
I love the PvP in Gw2. I don’t see myself leaving for another game anytime in the near future. Gw2 is not the problem, the kittenty players who play this game are.

Nice constructive criticism buddy you obviously trolled yourself there. People have come up with great posts. Funny part is the devs are currently adding feature to the game which we asked for by the way. You obviously don’t keep with what the devs are doing. Games are driven by the community if there is no one to play there game its dead plain and simple.
[/quote]
It was no intention of mine to come across as a troll. Please enlighten me. What are these feature(s) you speak of?
its because the dev’s lack depth so its seen i the game they made…and since in their minds “its a great game” things dont change. on top of that they dont listen to their community who tell them from beta the issues they have with their games why? because in their minds “its a great game” so u see alot of things go unfixed…
The game will NEVER be massively altered to what we as a community would like it to be because 1 Anet doesnt listen to their customers. they already have our money so nothing we can do about that except NOT give them more when expansions come out.
If you feel u didnt get what you paid for dont give them more in hopes of getting what you wanted the first time you paid.

The title states no weapon swapping, so that is all that I will address. I’ve grown accustomed to it now, but as a guardian, being able to sub in staff for swiftness was essential for playing a support role. I feel so constrained without being able to do so. However, there is a risk in doing so. Getting caught and drawn in to combat with the wrong weapons equipped almost guarantees defeat. The same can be said regarding utility and elite skills. Getting caught or stuck with the wrong spells could essentially have a negative impact. Micromanagement of this sort added a competitive element to the game, and made it more enjoyable.
I agree with a Yoda. A well played thief is rare. Most create one, with a mindset like Recently’s, and bring nothing beneficial to their team. Fortunately, I feel the majority of players don’t have these delusions of grandeur towards thieves and mesmers.
I don’t think a truly balanced playing field allows for a fun pvp experience. If all the professions were created equal, players would essentially be left with one class. Where is the fun in that? It would be a miserable game to play. Every fight, every encounter, every game would be identical….
I welcome the uneven playing field. I think their is nothing wrong with the current state of bunkers and thieves; this is what makes pvp interesting in Gw2. I like how my play style and strategy must change depending on which profession and build my opponent is.
I feel there is too much negativity towards the game in the structured pvp forums. I felt compelled to express my opinion, and let Anet know that Gw2 has exceeded my expectations, and have created a pretty kittening awesome game.
I play an offensive meditation build on my guardian; GS and sword+shield. I’ve grown very found of using Sigil of Rage on my GS. However, I’ve noticed that on the lucky occasions that it procs as an enemy is downed, the quickness stomp fails. The animation is correct, but nothing happens. anyone else have this problem?
I play a GS meditation guardian. Me not being able to switch weapons greatly effects my mobility. By switching to staff, out of combat mind you, i was able to successfully fulfill the role of roamer. I feel limited now, and it is not cost effective for me to roam anymore. I’m not a fan of playing bunkers, but I feel that this ‘fix’ is forcing me to. I could live with not being allowed to change traits, but i see no reason why gear (weapons and armor) should not be interchangeable, i.e., as they were pre-patch.
8v8 / 5v5 connquest gets repetitive and is boring now. I dont see how adding more pvp modes can hurt.
I am by no means bored or remotely dissatisfied with conquest pvp. I would hate to see anet ruin this game because a few people are bored. I suggest playing other games if you are bored
I can imagine 3v3 death match… and it appears absolutely terrible. Players complain about glass thieves and warriors now… I couldn’t even imagine the qq if 3v3 death matches were implemented.
Guardian 1 hand sword attack #3 is similar, if I am not mistaken.
If people have a hard time determining which team they are on, they must really have a hard time reading opponent spells and dodging attacks. Honestly… it is pretty kittening easy to know what team you’re on.
Removing downstate would destroy Gw2 PvP. It is an essential mechanic (at least for tournament play), which should not be removed. I actually like the downed state; it creates a less cut and dry pvp.
Would you care to explain further?
you say it would destroy gw2 pvp.. how exactly?
I feel the downed state is an element that separates Gw2 from other mmo’s. It influences builds/trait decisions as well as team compositions, in the sense that, depleting your opponents health does not necessarily mean you’ve defeated them. If this were the case, and it has been mentioned before, tpvp would consist of all glass cannons. Removing the downed state would simplify the game to a level that would be unbearable. Sure, it’s annoying at times. However, 1/10, in the least, it can prove to be beneficial to you.
this game has no esport/cash rewards. anyone who thinks theyre pro need to learn the deffinition of pro…..
I’ve been coming back to check out this topic, and i feel that I should clear something up. First, it was the poster who initially referenced pro players. Second, for the most part, “pro” is being used loosely, hence the use of "". We all no there are no pro players…

Lol… an sPvP all-star thinking he is better than guilded “pro” tPvPers. Clearly you have never played tPvP at any high level. These “pro” players you speak of, would no doubt beat you 1v1, in fact, you could clone yourself, play two characters at the same time, and they would win 1v2.
Being a good team player does not translate to being a good soloist. True tPvP is competitive, but playing there does not reflect on one’s skill as a duelist, as a player who always plays teams, puts less time into perfecting his/her personal skills. It is entirely possible that a tPvP can crumble without the support of his/her team.
Most of these good team players, are also excellent solo players, perhaps the best. For the most part, their knowledge of the game greatly exceeds those who only play 8v8 zergs.

The negativity revolving around around Gw2 PvP, especially the notion of it not becoming an esport, is absurd. I know I’m not alone. I think Gw2 has great PvP (specifically tournys). Everyone complains about balancing, but i think that issues regarding this are honestly minimal. I think Gw2 is on the right track to becoming an esport, and this is a good sign.
I think both add elements, to their appropriate maps, which require teams to have a less simplistic strategy, like that which is used on forest.

trying to get some feedback on this build I’ve been running. I’ve been having great results, seeing that it is designed around my play style. I’ve been messing around with different sigil and rune combinations and wanted to see what other guardians might think. I want to maintain fairly high crit (content with 40%). If the opposing team has a necro, i’ll tend to switch out purging flames for contemplation of purity. If I am left to guard a pt, I’ve tried switching soldiers amulet to knight; I lose the crit, but get armor over 3k and boosting attack slightly.

The Bakers of Muffington is a tPvP oriented guild. We are looking for 2-3 players interested in progressing in tournament pvp. The guild will consists of only 1 team. Casual, yet competitive, players need apply. NEED a well played bunker. MUF usually plays 8-12 est, strictly tPvP.
Message Niptease.8971 in game if anyone is interested.
I’ve noticed this too. Every thing works according to planned. Maybe it’s a bug
When you “detonate” the shield, it does not end the spell. However, it does heal.
r26 guardian/mesmer looking for tpvp team/guild that uses voice chat. I’m on 8-12pm EST monday-friday, and varying times during the weekend. send me a message in game. I would like to consistently play with the same group of people during these times (free and paid tournys).
Everyone just blurts out what they want. However, they spend no time to actually evaluate their thoughts or consider how their supposedly great changes or additions would actually affect the game.
I agree with all of Mammoths posts. With that being said, I tend to primarily solo queue tpvp.
Enjoy your game and don’t forget to /m gg
p.s anet stated that they are looking closesly at bunker guardians / staff eles / and mesmers , yet they have done NOTHING whatsoever to make tournaments different from a World of Warcraft : The Burning Crusade S1-2-3 RMP (rogue mage priest) mega gameplay. YAY FOR DYNAMIC PVP .. not
3v3 slayer = 5v5 point control. you sir have literally blown my mind
a 5v5 hot join is what should be implemented to solve this problem. I’m not trying to be an kitten but tpvp is not always the greatest experience for casual solo queue players.
Perfect. Than put together a group. That easy
Find a group and play. Stop being lazy. Ultimately, you will enjoy your game experience more.
You can’t implement a strategy that you would use against a team with 1-2 bunkers against a team with 3-5 bunkers. Pug tpvp groups will have a difficult time defeating the latter. On the other hand, a group of semi-intelligent players using Skype should be able to compete, regardless of player builds. True story… believe it or not.
I believe it: if you don’t have 4 friends in Voip every time you wanna play, there is no real competition, and little place for you in pvp.
It makes tpvp much less casual. However, being able to verbally communicate with your team, even if it is 5 random people in Skype, makes it more enjoyable. being able to communicate little things makes a world of difference. Unfortunately, with the state of 8v8 pvp, the skilled casual player is really at a loss because, tpvp, as mentioned earlier, is almost unbearable with out a team w/ mics.

There is a group of people in the gw2 community that do not think that thieves are over-powered. These people do not play thieves. Nothing more needs to be said. Everyone who can’t figure out how to counter a thief needs to return to the drawing boards.
If I was Anet, I would buff thieves: Allow them to kill a player in -1 seconds. I’d like to see what the baddy bads have to say about that.
Anyone who complains about thief damage is a quitter, and has readily accepted defeat as a gw2 player. grow some kittening balls and learn to dick slap thieves.
