branded creature, icebrood creature, war war war.
mel: Soft kitty.
end of the trailer was not mordey apparently
in the behind the scenes of making of the HoT launch trailer
they referenced to that enemy as a “large vine monster”
The Pale Tree has a new look for autumn…
I’m still trying to get past that beta cutscene when the planty guy starts the fight mounted and armed with a spear, and ends the fight on foot wielding a leyline-skin hammer. More leyline weapons for planty people in this trailer, wonder if he too started the fight armed with something else?
Anyways, someone needs to inform Rytlock that positioning and tactics is key and that the ‘zerker meta is dead. That guy is way WAY too impulsive. On the other hand, charr are superior to all, so I’m sure he’ll be fine.
Wouldn’t mind seeing a preview for the underwater skills as well, while they are at it I mean
They’d share information but its… Patchy.
Geddit?
Oh, honestly, if you see a necro with a greatsword you should start running- fear effect or no.
I’d like to see a spinning attack like the one on my axe. I’d use it to hover, helicopter-like, above my unsuspecting foe. Then, when they approach, I drop down, crashing into the ground, summoning minions, creating a well on landing, and generally just causing as much mayhem as possible.
I’d call this move the necrobomb.
An engineer in light armor? Colour me disappointed…. Anyways, thanks for the info guys!
So I’d really like to get my hands on the armor Brun Ingotspitter is wearing for my charr characters. Anyone know where I can find it? I’m not talking about the welders/pistols but the coat/shoulders.
Its got a bit of tail-clipping, but then so does most of the armor in this game so I try not to let it bother me too much.
Anyone know? Cheers in advance!
There’s a “lionguard”.
There’s a “Lion’s arch”.
There are statues and pictures of them all over, but: Where are the lions? Anyone actually seen one?
Oh, and btw, fix clipping on armor for asura and charr and balance the classes. Thanks!
Wow, this is fantastic! I’d still want a visual toggle, but your work is great!
You should do some armor for charr and asura that doesn’t have tail/ear/horns clipping too while you’re at it. Heck, it can’t hurt to try having an influence, right?
Two thumbs up from this charr player anyway!
Since grenades are consistently reported as the maximum DPS kit, yes, I’d expect that to get nerfed adjusted.
Theres also the issue that not a single class offers true charr weaponry. Seriously, all charr should be able to use rifles, regardless of class.
But armor should be the top priority, the clipping issues and the lack of options is really sub-par.
I really don’t get game developers in general: why does every single developer feel the need to make classes/races/concepts that players DON’T like?
I like the idea of mace or hammer for engineer, it makes sense.
Of weapons I’d like to see added to the game as a whole, the greataxe would be my choice. The bigger the axe, the better.
One thought would be to change the mortar into more of a bigger version of the charr racial elite artillery barrage. Give it a few charges and let the engineer call down artillery.
To compensate, the engineer could get a “radio” icon overhead to show enemies whos calling in the airstrikes.
Another option is to make the actual mortar/artillery a targetable “turret”, so you can either go after the engineer calling in the artillery or be sneaky, get behind enemy lines, and kill off the mortar itself. This would also enhance the thing in PvE, since even if the engineer is defeated someone else can use the mortar and get the buff instead.
The whole rooting yourself in place thing seems very dated, considering how much the game favors mobility.
Round field for napalm is a given.
The targeting, as has been pointed out, needs to be worked on. Firing the flame jet up a slope or at close range can mean constant misses at the moment. I’d also like to see more consisten applications of burning since it IS a fire attack.
I’d also like to see a (slight) range increase to flame jet, to match the actual particle effect. They could tweak the damage a little to compensate for this.
Q: What do you call Ascalonian wine?
A: Charr-donay.
If Caithe formed an all-sylvari guild, she could call it “Destiny’s Hedge”.
Q: How do you get directions in an area littered with deranged ghosts?
A: Ask-a-loony-one
Q: What would you call a structure like the Black Citadel?
A: Charr-chitecture.
She should dye her hair red, we could call her Queen Henna.
Q: What would you call the shiftier parts of the asura capital?
A: The Rata Slum
1. Fix tail-, horn- and ear-clipping for charr and asura.
2. Better looking medium armor for charr.
3. New weapon options for all classes.
I keep logging in as soon as I see “new armor skins available in the gem store”, and its a constant disappointment bonanza.
Honestly, the medium re-skin was worse than usual.
Team gasmask skin, you’re needed urgently. If you don’t want to add new armor, at least fix tail-, horns- and earclipping on the existing ones.
I’d agree. This would however be fine if our survivability was on par with a guardian, which it isn’t. Guardians suffer from a lower overall damage, we suffer from a lower survivability.
We’ve seen moves, inte the upcoming december patch not least, where developers are trying to adress the guardian dps problems. I certainly hope they’ll look at thief survivability as well.
Hmmmm, I haven’t noticed that particular problem. Have you tried the “leather” level 40-ish boots or the Warhound boots that you can buy from the karma vendor in… Iron Marshes I think?
My thief is charr though, couldn’t vouch for other races.
Edit:
Oh, and just to be clear: the pants will cover most of the boots, no matter which ones you use. But with either of these pairs of boots I haven’t noticed any “clipping” between pants and boots.
Thank you both for your replies!
I use stock cooling, so I’m a bit wary of overclocking at the moment. However, overclocking seems like a more interresting option if it “carries” me through to a larger system upgrade later with new PSU et all.
Again, thank you both for your helpful replies!
My current system setup is this:
i5 2500k @3,3
Asus motherboard P8Z68
16 gigs of RAM (Kingston HyperX1600MHz)
Asus Radeon HD 6850, 1920×1080 resolution
2xSSD
Windows 7 64-bit.
Now, I’m running all this on an old Corsair power supply that dates propably back to 2009. I think its 520W or so, I’d have to take it out of the case to check.
What I’m thinking is my vid card is propably whats not cutting it at this time. I thought increasing the ammount of RAM might help, and mostly the game runs fine, but the FPS drops whenever things get hectic are starting to annoy me. Otherwise it must be the processor bottlenecking, but surely that’d be more noticeable.
Is it worth upgrading my graphics card for GW2?
Any tech-heads here willing to give any input? I was thinking of buying a GTX 760, but I’m wondering if I’d notice a difference and if I’d need a new PSU?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
With GW2 having been out a while I’d like to see a few more weapon options. And since my main is a thief, I’ve mostly thought of options for that class.
Whips
I’d like to see whips added as a weapon. Theres already an animation for nightmare court sylvari, and all elementalists have it on their lightning skills for dagger. This could be either a mainhand for thieves (Indiana Jones!!!) or an off-hand. It goes well with the close-range nature of the class, and could have some fun effects, I’m thinking mainly snares.
Sniper rifles
Seriously, thieves need to be given a rifle option. My charr wields pistols on principle, because a short-bow just doesn’t have the firepower.
Fist weapons
Having huge spikes on your fists instead of gauntlets can both look cool and work from a gameplay perspective. Short-range channeled punch-combo, anyone? In general, both warriors, mesmers and thieves need more of a martial-arts-style weaponset. This could also work for necromancers, now that I think of it, to take them out of the whole “caster”-niche a bit.
Halberds/Greataxes
Our guardians, warriors and rangers need to be able to wield bigger axes. Because bigger is better. In terms of axes.
Oh, also, I’d like to see thieves given the option to use off-hand torch. Looks great aestethically, and works from a gameplay perspective since mesmers already use torches to enter stealth.
Well, my two cents anyway.
I kinda like present stealth, though I really like the idea of making it work similar to necro death shroud.
For me, WoW rogue was great back in the day. I ran a hemmorage/combat build with maces and loved it.
As my favored activity is running small-time dungeons, rogue sort of lost its charm when crowd-control (sap, blind, stun) became irrelevant around the time of WotLK. My GW2-thief has similar issues: I enjoy runnin dungeons, but I find myself mostly providing utility with pulls (scorpion wire) and the short bow rather than actually “thieving”.
Overall I think its pretty even, GW2 has been out for a much shorter time and I’d certainly like to see expansions that broaden the gameplay for all classes. Thieves with whips (Indiana Jones!!!), sniper rifles, off-hand torch…
I’ve had it with tail clipping. Really, I’m sick of having very limited armor choices across the board because I loathe tail clipping. Add more cultural armor or whatever.
And adding in the new armor sets for Sky Pirates and they too have tail clipping? Really, that is just sub-par.
We need more medium armor options for charr. Seriously.

On character creation I find all humans look about twelve years old, but in game they do look somewhat older. Comparatively, norn look a lot older on character creation than they do in-game. I’d say around 20-25-ish for humans, the voices sound a bit more mature than an initial glance would hint at.
Theres plenty of room at the bottom of the ocean…. Or so I’m told. (Hint: quaggans are poor at fighting back)
As a devoted charr player I’ve had little or no time for Gods. For some reason though the names of the human Gods have been resonating in my brain as I’ve been playing, and I’ve just realized why: they remind me of delicious curry dishes.
Think about it: chicken tikka Kormir? A soothing Lyssa yoghurt drink? Fresh-baked Grenth bread? Some mutton Melandru, maybe with a side of Balthazar sauce?
The only thing I havent found a good curry counterpart for is Dwayna, guess thats because I rarely browse the vegetarian alternatives.
So, am I on to something or what? Don’t tell me whoever came up with the human Gods didn’t fancy a good curry!
Excellent thread with many good insights from people who have obviously played thief for a while and know what they are talking about.
I’d like to chime in with wanting the development team to take a good long look at pistol/pistol. An ability to go into stealth naturally whilst wielding two pistols would be interresting. Tweaking the damage as well.
Dual pistols is one of the main reason I chose thief in the first place, I really liked the concept of a “gunslinger” approach. This isn’t really the engineer’s forte either, so it would work well with the thief.
Underwater skills would need to be looked at as well, particularly the synergy between on-land range builds and harpoon gun/on land melee builds and spear. Having to re-trait if you even put a toe in water isn’t really good gameplay.
New things I’d love to see added is of course a rifle option. I really like the idea of a sniper weapon for my charr. It would be completely different from what is available to a warrior or an engineer.
Dual swords is also interresting, for a swashbuckling melee-type build.
I never intended to play charr until I saw them in-game. They are just too awesome. Love the story, the areas, the lore of them… Yeah, charr rock.
Most of the armor looks bad, but what is worse is that even the cultural armor has clipping. I mean, jeez… Its supposed to be designed for charr, yet still has clipping! The T1 shoulders also float in mid-air. I am not impressed.
Apart from that, I really like the charr actually. I was so surprised to see them in-game. Now I can’t imagine playing another race, so the whole armors looking bad is really a big issue for me.
Yeah, I’m desperately seeking this set as well. If anyone finds it from a vendor somewhere, I’d love to know!
I had an exercise in frustration today as a level 80 thief attempting the story mission “Temple of the Forgotten God” (recommended for level 73 iirc).
First of all, the mission mostly takes place underwater. Right there, I was on the verge of going “nah, not going to bother”, since so many thief underwater skills are crippled, but I decided that I wanted to end the story chain at some point. So I went for it.
This mission, in addition to underwater combat being a chore in and of itself for thieves in their current state, brought back all the things I’ve disliked so far about story missions:
Deathtraps
Several times during this mission monsters appeared in groups, all swarming me, defeating me within seconds. And by seconds I mean two seconds:
Second one: mobs appear
Second two: I’m defeated
Unresponsiveness
Several times I had to re-trace my steps just to get the next sequence to trigger. Theres nothing obvious about the path you’re supposed to take, I had to look for clues online.
Unhelpful NPCs
Or in this case just one NPC. Do these companions serve a purpose, other than engaging monsters that are far away so that they immediately target me? Much like Rytlock in “In the Ruins” the NPC here seems to do almost no damage. It managed to get stuck inside a wall once though.
Several times on story missions I’ve had my NPC companions just stand around, because they haven’t been “activated”. As a thief (see lenghty posts above, well said btw) walking up to groups of monsters and smacking the biggest one in the head is a bad strategy, yet its what the game expects you to do. It started with the undead grubs in “Graveyard Ornaments” and happens all the time as the story progresses. Honestly, I’ve been pleasantly surprised every time I’ve actually had a mission where NPCs react like I expect them to, since the opposite is the norm.
General weirdness
Attempting to get to this quest I was defeated twice because there are events spawning on top of the quest area. One minute I’m happily swimming towards my goal, no enemies in sight, the next I’m swarmed by 10-12 krait all spamming stunning abilities at me until I am defeated. Its just weird design, very very random.
I do like the game, for one its absolutely beautiful. But the personal story bit needs some definite work.
Bugs/Issues: Aquatic Weapons
Harpoon gun
Ink shot:
Bug: Frequently detonates immediately on use.
Issue: Frequently causes monsters to evade/become invulnerable if the monster has moved when you detonate the shot.
Escape:
Issue: Launches player in random directions, often straight down or straight up to the surface. Difficult to “aim”.
Issue: Often causes monsters to evade/become invulnerable.
Issue: Also causes you to get caught inside walls at times.
Bug: I’ve yet to see the trail of poison caused by this ability work.
Spear
Flanking strike:
Bugs/issues: Suffers pretty much all the bugs/issues of the sword counterpart ability. Hardly ever hits. Unusable in current state.
Bug/issue: Frequently causes monsters to evade/become invulnerable due to pathing issues.
Nine Tailed Strike:
Bug: If enemy moves whilst the block portion of this skill is active, the skill will cancel.
Bug: If the first counterattack misses, all counterattacks in the series will miss.
Issue: Frequently causes monsters to evade/become invulnerable.
Tow line:
Bug: Targeting of this skill has several bugs.
Bug: If fired at an enemy in movement whilst engaged in combat, enemy will often evade/become invulnerable due to pathing issues.
Shadow assault:
Issue: This ability often seems to completely miss its target. Also very frequently causes monsters to evade/become invulnerable due to pathing issues.
Summary
Aquatic combat as a thief isn’t really working at the moment.
