Makes sense that they may have gone quiet for one week, seeing as how there is that Thanksgiving thing going on.
When there’s lot of questions and issues in this game after the expansion release.
To not have a dialogue with the community is really bad. Arenanet don’t go in EA footsteps… we deserve better. Or atleast that’s what I think after this contentlacking 50€ expansionpack.
Tex, stop it.
I have a few questions about being a Warrior, that hopefully the Warrior forum community can answer!
1. How well do Warriors perform in the available game-types? (sPvP/PvE/WvW.)
PvE and WvW my warrior does great, loads of fun and hard to kill, though his damage is kinda low and I don’t understand how Thieves can be killed…3. What Build or Builds am I looking at for PvE/WvW/sPvP?
For weapons I do Sword and Shield + Longbow – kind of a RP’er though. Works well for how I play.4. Are Warriors good at surviving, or do you find Warriors need to kite more than being Direct and Aggresive in fights. (Melee).
My warrior rarely dies in PvE – healing signet and high health plus shout heals and random pet (armor runes) mean that I rarely have trouble roaming the maps in PvE.5. Progression wise, are Warriors slow/medium/fast as far as pace through content?
Because of how hard my Warrior is to kill compared to my other classes I’ve had the easiest time getting him through Map Completion and gaining Skill/Hero Points.
Thought this was a cool glitch, apparently not. Good job ANet!
Human Warrior here, no complaints in the PVE area – still loving it, still not taking any damage and still bashing some skulls
But uh, sorry to hear you’re having difficulties.
But that hype can’t keep you playing a game you don’t find fun when you don’t even know the release yet :/
But but…isn’t HoT also Guild Wars 2? When it comes out, won’t you just play it a little, determine it is no longer fun, and then return here to re-hash this post? o.O
If you haven’t yet, try role playing a little! Go on patrol duty somewhere or become a nomad in the wilds chasing other players and shouting about your lawn!
Any info if blade shards will be in wallet too?
Wh-what the…
I have 4 Blade Shards and keep them in my bank near the other rare items I have. I don’t even know where I got them from.
But you have….1, 2, 3,…6,178 of them o.O
I’d love to hear from other folks what they do for their own characters after reaching the apparent end of existing content to keep things fresh! Please feel free to post any of your fun stories from the gameworld here!
Not quite made it to map completion, but I’m close. When I’m done, I plan on re-exploring the maps, completely in character. Walking from village to village, helping out passerby’s in any way possible, and just being in character. Along the way I’ll slowly flesh out his back-story.
I actually saw a group of Charr in Iron Marches recently walking around and occasionally talking to each other in /s chat as though they were all in a warband together. While the dialogue from player to player felt a bit awkward, their goals seemed fun – they were basically helping a lower level guildie do reknown hearts and personal story section, but as a warband instead of random friends. This would be a great way to experience the other cultural story sections, so I may do that. :-)
I see small groups walking around every now and then, speaking in character about their latest achievements/fights. Always found this intriguing and find myself wanting to tag along.
Glad others noticed this. Was fighting a Son of Svanir the other night and ended up chasing him around while he strafed/moonwalked away from me – he never even tried to hit me.
Wasn’t using any special skills, just attacking. Thoroughly enjoyed the encounter
Or incorrectly?
I love the logic behind your statement. He isn’t enjoying the game as much as me, so he must be doing something wrong.
Oh no, not at all. What I mean to say is…well, imagine a CoD fanboy that gets upset and throws his controller whenever he can’t “360 no scope”. Is it the games fault? Or is he putting a little too much emotion into the wrong aspect of the game, and not enough into the game itself?
Is the game being played incorrectly when someone no longer sees enjoyment in the simple things that make the game fun? Is loot the only reason they’re playing?
So I don’t say “Are they playing incorrectly?” because I’m enjoying it and they aren’t; I’m asking if they’ve lost site of the game itself, and are focusing on things that are trivial. Of course they can still be having fun, getting enjoyment out of it.
Really you love getting blues and greens all the time (non t6 mats)? That’s rather in-comprehensive, and I want to -1 you for that. Also, there is no correct or incorrect way of playing, you just play.
Well, yes actually. I do. I don’t think I could tell you what t6 mats even were.
At the moment, I’m fascinated with the Mystic Forge, and so every blue and green I get goes right in there. Or to one of my lower levels, but usually I throw them right into the fountain in Lion’s Arch.
I negative-one you for negative-one’ing me sir/ma’am. En garde.
What exactly did you receive as loot that was actually useful and fulfilling to you? I’m curious, because all I got from my Wintersday Gifts are a ton of the same tonics (which most of them can’t be sold), a ton of the same toy weapon skins (I already had all those skins unlocked after opening merely +/- 50 gift boxes) and a ton of runes and sigils with absolutely horrible stats (you can buy better runes/sigils on the TP for just a handful of silver, so they’re really useless).
Am I playing too much? No, I’m not playing too much. I said I played for merely 2 hours in DR doing the Wintersday activities. Not that it matters.
Playing incorrectly? Because I get way more gift boxes than you? Euhm, what kind of reality do you live in where getting more rewards = “playing incorrectly”? Maybe you’re the one “playing incorrectly”? Anyway, I’m just casually doing all the events that Wintersday has to offer me. Not sure what’s “incorrectly” about that.
Well, the whole experience really. It’s Wintersday – presents and the meaning of Christmas and whatnot :/ I didn’t get any super weapons, but I do enjoy just receiving loot. I don’t have to have my mind blown in order to enjoy the loot I receive.
And my mistake, I just thought since you were receiving so many gift boxes maybe you needed to take a break..?
Also, please forgive me: by playing incorrectly I simply mean: Don’t forget it’s a game. Along the same lines of playing too much; go enjoy it for what it is, then relax. But I understand you’re already doing this, so well done. One thing you could try, in this mmo-RPG, is Role Playing. It might help take your mind off loot, that way, when you’ve RPG’d your heart out, you can return to looting and it might mean more to you
…that’s how we get snowflakes?? o.o
Thanks niea. Sorry, can’t answer your question though, apparently I’m still learning…
Little long, read most…
I’ve gotta disagree.
I love the quality of loot I get. I’m a pretty casual player, but when I get loot it’s always pretty fulfilling.
And I sell my excess materials for a good chunk of change whenever I sell them. I’ve played for a few hours since the patch came out and did not receive ‘hundreds’ of Wintersday gifts. Not even close to that. But I also haven’t just done Wintersday activities. Think maybe you’re playing too much? Or incorrectly?
Just wanted to say…
Please never implement a use all option, cause that would ruin most of the fun.
Suggestion:
Please make rune/sigil recipies deletable only if you type in the full name – a mini-game, whithin a mini-game!
It’s official: We, the GW2 community, have requested it. Well done, let your voice be heard! And then never complain that we didn’t ask for this.
…really?? O.o
Are you trolling or is this serious?
I must be reading the wrong patch notes – can someone link?
Or can the OP be explained?
From what I’ve read it sounds like they’re attempting to implement what “we” have been asking for..?
The exemplary and stickied thread, “I have a question about the economy” has now been archived with the unfortunate loss of the Black Lion Trading Company forum. Is there any chance of getting that thread fished out of the abyss?
Check the Wayback Machine – maybe it never went away, just resides on a different plane
This is a well-earned vacation. From GW2’s starting year until now they’ve shown an incredible ability to come up with new systems, re-work stuff as needed, and deliver a reasonable amount of content in short periods. I still recommend GW2 for all of my friends, and I’m still fond of the idea that ArenaNet has really changed how companies should perceive MMOs in general.
Second this.
They deserve it, and I’m sure they aren’t taking a month off – Gaile explained it perfectly in a very similar thread; if they put out a huge patch right before break, you’d be complaining that something wasn’t perfect and expect them to come in on Christmas day to fix it.
Curious, what are you needing to click on? Keyboard shortcuts are so easy to configure, I rarely click on anything.
And I’ve heard this complaint in other games, but never understood – is it a lack of hand-eye coordination? Do you really need to ‘see’ your mouse pointer in order to click on something?
I’m not sure I agree, GW2 has been pretty challenging to me. As a soloist, I don’t think the dev’s made this game ‘smooth and easy’; I find it just the right amount of challenge.
I’m punished for death every time I have to Waypoint and run all the way back to where I was fighting/exploring. You haven’t been playing too much Dark Souls have you? That could warp your opinion of ‘Challenging’.
Hello. So around a month ago, some of my characters received their second birthday gift. I’m really grateful for receiving anything at all, but could you please change the rewards a bit, so I get more of the useful stuff?
Yep, there’s you’re problem. Hard to be grateful AND want more – defeats the purpose of being grateful.
Leaving out the grateful bit I can see where you’re coming from, it would be nice to receive gifts that we want rather than random gifts that offer no real value.
But…they’re gifts?
I agree with OP. ANet needs to stop milking us.
I consider myself a free range cow, not one of their tame dairy herds. ANet’s attempts to pull me into the gem store milking parlor makes me kick up my heels, swish my tail agitatedly and attempt to gore the nearest person standing afk in LA. My decision to lactate should be uninfluenced by gem store pressures. Even if they play calming music and rub my udders with a warm, soft cloth it still feels like coercion.
My motto “Lactate Freely or Die!”
Hmm, I’m not entirely sure you’re playing the correct game. I can honestly say I feel thoroughly un-milked or coerced. By all means, do said thing freely, no one is holding you back! Not ANet at least…right? o.O
And it looks like OPs original question has been answered (if I remember correctly): There are indeed cows within Guild Wars 2. Many types of bovine creatures. Well done everyone.
I didn’t even know Anet had cows.
On a more serious note, I certainly wouldn’t be averse to an expansion, but I wouldn’t want one at the expense of the Living Story which I like.
Dolyaks! They’re bovine in origin. And the Ranch near Meat-tober fest has cows.
And Anet has ghost cows! Can’t forget those. They scare the heck out of those poor scrappers.
I use Sword and Shield on my human warrior because he is a protector. Prefer it over other builds.
A White Knight here, let me go ahead and throw my opinion in on this…
Everyone has been hating on ANet recently, but for good reason.
False. I don’t see a good reason for the hate. You bought a game that had enough material to justify the expense, and they haven’t forced you to spend a dime since. The hate for ANet stems from people always wanting more and not being satisfied. The game is wonderful, and I love it, every part of it because it allows me to explore a well-designed world that I always look forward to returning to at the end of the day.
My question is, is it worth playing Guild Wars anymore. With no new content, Halloween was a disapointment, and there seems to be no content that people actually like in the game anymore
. Ive been thinking of leaving the game. I assume most other people are to right?
As has been said before, a majority of players don’t use the forums. The negative opinions here are in no way reflective of the overall player base. I still enjoy much of the game, especially the exploration and the beauty. The combat is fun and challenging, the NPCs are interesting, and the other players are a lot of fun – even just watching and listening to them.
I don’t think you should leave the game just yet, it seems to me it is changing quite a bit, and I think you’re going to miss out.
Not sure what you’re talking about – EGX videos? Please explain!
Being that it is considered an mmoRPG…
A skilled Guild Wars 2 player will have a strong character name that is true to the GW2 environment and a backstory that is both unique and creative. The player is able to stay in character even under duress and only chats in /say; plus they only leave character in chat by using parenthesis. e.g. “I am Grogg the Imp Lord! (But going AFK…)”
They don’t need to be powerful, talented at fighting, or knowledgeable in all that is GW2 – unless their backstory says so.

Thanks everyone, makes a lot more sense now. Good advice all-around.

As far as I can tell the first link at least is not genuine, I haven’t clicked on it but I assume it asks for your login details so the hackers can use them to get into your account. If you ever want to see if a link is genuine its a good idea to inspect it, as in this case you will see it is actually a different website link that is ‘disguised’ as a genuine link by naming it through code.
I have clicked on the link, brought it up in a sandbox even. It takes you to the login page for the GuildWars 2 Site – or an exact replica. It’s even https.
I know the trick of hovering over a link to see where it takes you – in this case, it shows the link will redirect you to the “You’re leaving the GuildWars 2 forums…” notice, then redirects you to the legitimate login page. I must be missing something, so either way it’s a scam of some sorts, I just don’t see how.

Won’t disagree with anyone here, that is most probably phishing.
My problem here is that the links it directs you to are legit. They take you to the GuildWars2 website sign-in screen and the legal page, respectively.
Maybe the forums auto-corrected the links? Or maybe the sites sign-in page is compromised? (Highly unlikely of course!) Or maybe this is some highly devious plot by some dastardly hackers in a remote village somewhere?
Either way, I’m not sure I would call this phishing, unless the phisherman just wanted you to legitimately log in to the GuildWars2 site…in which case he/she get’s nothing out of this and no real harm done. Good job not clicking links though.
Definitely is; I assume most complaints about this game are ‘ha ha’ types of things, considering what they’re usually about.
Darn, thanks for the info. I just spent a lot of gold thinking it was only going to effect my one character. Oh well. Gold can be placed in Guild Vault’s though? That’s useful, thank you!
Hmm, these items must have been karma bought. Along those same lines I have a piece of armor with an attachment that I can’t salvage or sell – any ideas? I would also like to remove the attachment, I suppose that might require a better salvage kit?
Thanks for the info!
Also, @Lanfear, do you also go by Daughter of the Night? Always good to see fans of The Wheel of Time.
OK, so I’ve decided to join the legions and post my own complaints. I’ve read so many good posts from smart, patient players who just want this game to be better. I cannot promise that this post won’t re-iterate what has been said before, but I’ll do my best.
Anyways, on to my complaints:
First – I’m tired of having to actually play Guild Wars 2. At what point did it become acceptable to force users to play a game? When did it become OK for a game company to sell a game and then expect us to actually play it? I think I speak for the majority when I say I’m tired of having to use my mouse and keyboard, of having to be in the same room as the game while it’s being played. We have lives – I need time to play Guild Wars 1 for instance; how can I do that when I’m being forced to ‘click click click’ in Guild Wars 2?? Insanity I tell you. I’ve written up a detailed plan for ANet on how they can fix this on my blog.
Second – There are only 4 races and 8 or so classes. This is not enough by a long shot. Once again, I believe I speak with the voice of the majority when I say Guild Wars 2 needs at least two dozen more classes with six more races. There are Skale everywhere in Queensdale – who doesn’t want to play as a Skale Berserker? And again, majority voice speaking here, Trees are such a viable race in Tyria. A Tree Monk – now that is something I’d dress for at Comicon! Come on ANet, I know you can EASILY include this in Guild Wars 2, I’ve done the calculations on the programming and it’d be so easy. Just do it.
Third – This is more about the forums that ANet runs and less about the game itself. I think it’d be a big improvement if the forums were a little stricter on who is allowed to make posts. If ANet were to go ahead and stop those players who post annoying rants about ‘_how much they enjoy this game_’ and ‘_I love Guild Wars 2 because…_’ and especially the posts of ‘_I don’t understand your reasoning, this game is very well put together and has a lot of enjoyable parts – well worth $50_’ posts – those are the WORST.
Anyways, it feels good to get that all off my chest. Thanks for reading and sorry about the “Wall of Text”. Time to get back to playing a really enjoyable game – ugh.

Oh, and to keep this from being too troll-like: I’m new to GW2 and have a few questions – is money in my inventory shared across characters? Can I deposit money in my bank? And why can I not salvage certain items, equipment for example?
Thanks again,
Atlas
I do my best not to talk to/help players with wacky, non-RPing names…sort of a problem I have
Hmm, I’ll keep my eyes open for him.
Was anyone else reminded of the in-game (dot)Hack message boards when they read Mezian’s post? Eerie. Very eerie.
Edit: Mezian’s MAIN post.
(edited by Atlas Tsahalla.2456)
@Chemiclord: Eh, you never know. Wishful thinking/plea’ing certainly didn’t keep us off Mars. Other games have these items, no reason we couldn’t see them in GW 2 one day. But, I understand you’re realism – hard to accept it though.
I miss RP/PVP server splits. It didn’t mean much to have dedicated RP servers, but at least joining one meant you were more likely to find other RP’ers.
What are your current specs’? With a budget like that, it might be more worthwhile to upgrade than to buy new. You plan on building the new PC?
Hi Celia! Great to find another Role Player in the mmoRPG area…
A lot of what you mention I remember from my days playing World of Warcraft. It was nice being able to play a character and not focus on gaining levels. The little vanity items you mention would be great, because when you’re roaming different parts of Tyria it’s nice to fully immerse yourself in your character and little items like that make it so much better.
Good to hear you’re enjoying the game so much! I only just started playing a week ago, and it’s incredibly sad to see so many people not enjoying it. Keep up the good posts!
