Fractals are the only way to get gold by just playing the game and not through a farm.

?
Not even close to true. I understand what you’re getting at but this is the worst possible advice you could ever give anyone ever. Also for me, fractals are a chore and things like WvW where you earn 10g/hour or whatever are fun.

It’s honest advice and I stand over it. Your 10g an hour or whatever from WvW is pie in the sky.

Some more questions from a noob

Ballistic.2570

Fractals:
1. The daily routine of tier 4 daily fractals + fractal 100 challenge mode is worth about 30 gold and takes about 1 hour. Fractals are the only way to get gold by just playing the game and not through a farm.

2. If you don’t have enough agony for the fractal you are in, you will be killed by the mechanics of the fractal. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Agony. you need 150 agony for fractal 100 (which is the highest). Maximum is 18 slots so 12×9 and 6×7 or some such combo and don’t forget the extra 2 9s for your off hand weapon. Costs about 150 gold.
You’ll need a full set of ascended gear and attuned infused rings for the slots for the agony, you can also upgrade your ascended backpack for an extra slot. For this reason most people use their main in fractals.

3. Fractal difficulty increases with the tiers: tiers 1-4. The mechanics remain largely the same so it is relatively straightforward to progress through the tiers. Tier 3 is when things get challenging and it is at this stage where you will see if your build holds up.

4. Outside of raids there are no tanks. There is a fractal meta which you will see enforced on 100 CM (challenge mode) 1 condi phalanx strength warrior. 1 healer druid, 1 chrono mesmer and 2 dps (either necro or ele but ele preferred). In CM there is 20% healing so a healer is important.

WvW:
1.Considered by many including myself to be the true gw2 experience.

2. Not common no, probably had alot to do with your friend’s skill level. It is easy to put an AOE wherever you want as you run so… try not to stand in the red circles (words to live by honestly ^^)

3. Yes.

4. Get in a squad and on TS, tag all the things.

5. Join a WvW guild and run with them while using a build that they recommend (more than likely they will have their own guild builds). Other than that marauder armour for sure, maybe take a look at celestial trinkets. Hard to say without knowing what class/build you’re on.

Other:
1. Inspecting other players gear is not allowed in GW2. I don’t know how to do it shrugs.

2. Absolutely. Joining guilds that specialise in an area of the game you are interested in will greatly increase your success in that area. Only broad PvE guilds tend to be 100% rep anymore so you should be able to join a WvW guild and a raid guild for starters with no issues. P.S if you join a high level guild be sure to mine the nodes in the guild hall.

3. Triple trouble only succeeds when run by the big community guilds on TS. Try showing up a half hour before it spawns and pray you get on the right map. Once you get in one and on TS, you can save the TS details for future runs or even join the guild if you like. Every time I did it they were mad recruiting on TS afterwards.

Hope this helps glhf o/

Ballistic.2570

Hi there, I believe I might be able to help you out. I main a gaurd in PvE and I have about 500 hours playtime as a zerg gaurdian in WvW.

1: Unfortunately a WvW build/gear composition will not function very well in PvE as it won’t have enough damage.
PvE build : http://qtfy.eu/build/guardian. I use the hammer guardian. Spend some time on this site as it has links to vids showing the rotations etc etc. You can swap out ‘dragons maw’ for ‘wrath’ if there is a warrior in your party. This build requires that you unlock the Guardian elite specialisation.

For WvW, you want Wanderer armour with durability runes. Celestial rings, Amulet and earrings, with a berserker backpiece. Berserker weapons (Hammer/Greatsword+ staff) I think the build on Metabattle is ok. Join a guild and they will likely ask you to run their preferred build anyway.

2: Totally up to you. HoT story is good. I would prioritise doing ‘Hero Point’ runs so you can unlock those elite specialisations.

3: Daily fractals: t4 daily+daily recommended for decent gold. I’ve found opening the fractal encryptions to be better than selling them. Guild hall synthesizers are worth mining everyday.

4: The copper-fed-salvage-o-matic is very useful and worth the gems in my opinion. Right click on it and salvage all for easy inventory management. Not the end of the world if you don’t have it tho.

Some people do swear by the airship pass. I took a hard look at it when it was on sale recently but decided against it. I just don’t craft enough to make it worthwhile for me. Your mileage may vary.

The active WvW english speaking servers are: Far shiverpeaks, Piken Square, Gandara and I guess I’ll mention Desolation cos I’m on there. Gandara is probably the pick of the bunch. They have good commanders and guilds.

Have fun and welcome back

What is the true cost of guild wars 2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ballistic.2570

Ballistic.2570

As others have said PvP in GW2 is very accessible for low gear players. You may have to spend a couple gold to unlock parts of your build but it won’t be more than 10g.

You can find competent builds here: http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki.

You can access quick match at lvl 1 but you will need to progress to lvl 20 to access ranked. I’ve done a few hundred matches and it’s quite fun IMO. Be prepared for very salty chat as you can communicate with the enemy team during matches.

The other competitive gamemode is WvW. If you intend to try it out, think carefully when choosing your homeworld. The competitive English speaking EU servers are ‘Far Shiverpeaks’ ‘Piken Square’ ‘Gandara’ and an honourable Mention for ‘Desolation’.

I’ve put >500 hours into WvW and I love it. The skill lag is real though. In big fights you won’t be able to cast any skills or even change weapon. Just keep mashing 1 and pray.

In answer to your question about cost: Gw2 simply gives you what BDO charges you through the nose for either in terms of money or time. You start the game with ‘area loot’ where you loot all enemies in the area with one click. After HoT was introduced ‘Auto Loot’ became available through ‘masteries’ If you decide to do PvE you can unlock it in a about ten hours. In WvW you can unlock ‘Auto Loot’ at rank 20 if you keep your unlock points; this is also very fast.

Each character starts off with access to 100 inventory slots. You just need to buy 4 20 slot bags off the trading post and equip them. 100 slots is plenty. A new account has access to one bank tab of 30 slots. This is a major problem if you decide to invest any amount of time into the game.

Recommended Black lion Items.
If you do decide to invest some time into GW2. There are a number of items in the cash shop which are worth the money for the convenience they give.

1: Bank tab expansion (600 gems), you need a bare minimum of 3 total. so that’s 2 to buy, so 1200 gems.
2: Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic (800 gems). You should use to salvage any basic, green or blue items which the game throws at you shamelessly. This and 100 slots of inventory space is all you will ever need. You should put it in the one shared inventory slot that comes with new accounts. That way you can use it on all your alts.

IMO real cost: cost of the game+ 2000 gems.

Zerg Guardian QOL suggestion

in WvW

Posted by: Ballistic.2570

Ballistic.2570
Then what we have here is you’re wanting to be a bit of a jerk but want a change to be made because of obscure reasons charading as a QoL improvement. Be true to yourself, be the jerk you are and throw the salt, you’ll be a lot more happy this way.

Also the solution is real simple, be the commanders pocket guardian unless you’re not good enough to stand out that much. That or find yourself a reliable guardian buddy to zerg with.
So it’s just me then who thinks it would be nice to be able to easily tell when the other guard in the party is not on tag/dead. That sucks, I do genuinely think it would increase my quality of life in-game. I’m not salty, I play with a good guild and I’m easily one of the weaker guards. I do think alot about how to play better and what would make things easier.

I’ll just have to get good enough to watch the party icons during the fights. It’s an extra thing to keep an eye on but as I said above: difficult not impossible.

Zerg Guardian QOL suggestion

in WvW

Posted by: Ballistic.2570

Ballistic.2570

That already exists.

All you need to do is click on their icon in the squad/party display. If they’re not within range, then you won’t be able to select them.

Secondly, you can always just keep an eye on their boon bar. Some things are pretty obvious and you should be paying attention anyways.

Barring that, why not just ask?

Yeah I’m aware of that. I didn’t want to sound like a kitten but ok here it is. I want to be able to mark the other guard so that I know if they die mid fight. On the longer fights it can be difficult to keep track of if they are alive or dead. Not impossible, just difficult.

Zerg Guardian QOL suggestion

in WvW

Posted by: Ballistic.2570

Ballistic.2570

This seem to imply that the purpose of the game is to be on the tag.

It is not.

It is a player conceived perception that this is how the game is supposed to be.

It doesnt deserve a QoL change.

If it is your opinion that a zerg guardian should not be on tag. I would like to hear where you think they should be.

Zerg Guardian QOL suggestion

in WvW

Posted by: Ballistic.2570

Ballistic.2570

I would like to be able to put a marker on the other guardian in my party so I can easily see if they are on tag.

So what I am suggesting is a marker that only the person who places the mark can see. Not the party, not the squad, maybe not the player who’s marked; only the player who places the mark, in this case me.

Reasoning: When one of the guards in a party is not on tag for any reason, it changes how the remaining guardian needs to play.

Ballistic.2570

Yeah but think about how much you invested in your house only to be kicked/leaving a guild. That would suck.

That’s the major issue with having the housing in the guild halls. I have no easy answer but maybe an option to ‘move house’. By which I mean you could have your house in only one guild hall at a time but you would have the ability to switch it between guilds. It would have to be given the green light for placement by the alt gild managers though. That way if you leave a guild for any reason, you would have the ability to take your house with you in a manner of speaking.

While this would not be the perfect solution, it might work in alot of cases.

too much lag

in WvW

Posted by: Ballistic.2570

Ballistic.2570

I don’t think it will ever be fixed. If it’s any consolation, after a couple hundred hours you do get used to it. On guardian when it won’t let me swap weapons, I just auto chain on staff and spam stab off cd, eventually it will pop and other than that I just focus on positioning.

It’s a fairly garbage situation, but at least the other servers are in the same boat.

Desert BL [the case for removal]

in WvW

Posted by: Ballistic.2570

Ballistic.2570

I dislike DBL and avoid playing there if at all possible. It’s really difficult to navigate and if you die in a fight there is no way you’re getting back to the tag.

It also seems really PvE heavy. Like the person who designed it had no interest in big fights. Seige Wars is not my idea of a good time, unless I want to go semi AFK while listening to music on a night capping crew.

I play WvW for intense Zerg/Blob fights and in my experience they are in short supply on DBL.

Guild hall suggestions.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ballistic.2570

I’m in a max lvl guild. Our guild hall is in Lost precipice. I usually only go there to get the synthesizers. IMO it looks like an abandoned ruined city that the guild has moved in on… like refugees or nomads; not very cool.

We had a scavenger hunt in there recently and I realised a couple of things:
1: The GH is huge
2: The guild has spent a ton of resources there
3: It will always look abandoned and in ruins, regardless of the amount of resources that a guild invests in it.

I think it would be nice if we could turn the Guild Hall into an actual home for the guild.

1.Let us hire NPC workers/contractors to rebuild it properly and to our specifications.
2.Set-up player housing there. Plenty of space, the players who want housing could easily hire NPCs to build them there and then furnish it to their liking. Along with a garden and a picket fence of course. The housing placement could be under the control of a guild leader/manager, both to keep the housing orderly and so you can be neighbours with a buddy if you like <3.

Benefits to Anet:
The economy
1: New market for different types of stone: granite, marble etc. All of which could be mined and sold. Guild halls are already a massive gold sink. I can’t imagine any price being too high for a highly customized and unique guild hall with the feeling of home.

2. Gem store.
Although I think it would be critical to be able to furnish your house through in-game activities. Fancy gem store items would be a welcome addition also: a Jacuzzi perhaps ^^.

Anyway just a thought I felt like sharing.

Edit: In response to guild hall housing concerns: maybe an option to ‘move house’. By which I mean you could have your house in only one guild hall at a time but you would have the ability to switch it between guilds. It would have to be given the green light for placement by the alt guild managers though. That way if you leave a guild for any reason, you would have the ability to take your house with you in a manner of speaking.
While this would not be the perfect solution, it might work in a lot of cases.

Ping spikes driving me away from GW2.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Ballistic.2570

Ballistic.2570

I’m downloading Black Desert Online as I type this and I sincerely hope it doesn’t replace GW2 for me. As it stands, this game is simply unplayable for me. I’ll either log on to a 1k ping that’s ready to spike to 5k, or I’ll log on to a stable ping but then go through a loading screen and it will spike.

I managed to get 3 sweet hours of stable ping on EB (WvW) on Saturday, before the comm switched maps and boom I was at 4k. It really is heartbreaking, as to me that shows it’s not something that I can fix on my end (not that I haven’t tried). It’s the same story in PvE, I might get one of the daily fractals done with a normal ping before it spikes. Anytime I go through a loading screen, it’s a roll of the dice. Sometimes If I re-log, it will be ok for a bit on the new character, sometimes not. Other times the ping says 0 but I think that’s when the map doesn’t load fully or something. Regrettably that’s the gold production in tatters.

This has been going on since Thursday. Maybe that doesn’t sound like a long time to some people. It sure feels bad letting down the guildies though. 4 times now (I’m still counting Saturday) I’ve had to explain that I can’t play on. 4 days on and no sign of any improvement, I’ve decided to start playing a new game. If I can’t play Guild Wars 2, I’ll have to settle for something else. I’m not about to invest money into a game that I don’t intend to play for at least 1k hours though.

The plan right now is to completely abandon PvE, which I only do to pass the time and make a little gold. I have enough gold/mats/gems that I’m set for life. I’ll log on for prime time WvW and hopefully it will work but if not I’ll have a back-up option.

So In summary, thanks for the 2.5k hours of fun; I hope this isn’t the end. Either way you’ve lost a PvE player though o/

I heard a while back that it’s way easier for them to make outfits as it’s one outfit fits all. More outfits means more $$$ for Anet. I agree with you though, making your characters look distinct and individual is a large part of the appeal of MMOs. Giving your character their own identity is very satisfying.

This guy seemed to think all the outfits was a good thing but as I said, I disagree. Still a good watch though.

Ballistic.2570

Normally I’d test this kind of thing myself but my interest is for WvW zerg play and those border queues take a half hour. So it’s gonna take ages to test properly.

Specs: i7-4790k 4.6ghz
gtx 1070
ssd
8 gigs ram 1866mhz (can be overclocked to 2200mhz).

Does ram speed have any affect at all on guild wars 2 gameplay, or loading screens, or texture load times or fps.

I’ve tested the ram overclock (2200mhz) and it’s sending my cpu temps through the sky. I’ll really have to spend alot of time messing around with the cpu and ram voltages to get it safe. Honestly, I don’t want to if it’s not gonna make any difference to gameplay.

To be clear, an increase of 1-2 fps would be a huge gain imo. An increase in another area might also make it worth the hassle. I just don’t want to do it if there will be no difference.

Hi there,

I’m just gonna give you some advice.

The main EU Servers are Desolation, Far Shiverpeaks and Gandara.

Far Shiverpeaks prides itself on being ‘the fighting server’ and their server blob is quite deadly.

Desolation is ranked number 1, so there’s plenty of activity on there at all times of the day and night.

Gandara is just a solid server. Plenty of good guilds and commanders on there.

The best way to find a guild is to pick one of those three servers (you can’t really go wrong). Then run with the blob or follow a guild raid, after a while the guild raiders will notice that you’re consistently online and will happily take you into their guild.

That really is the best way, gl out there and hf.

Everytime you want to do a fractal, you pay Anet money; like pay-per-view except for fractals. That idea is mine buddy and please Anet give it some consideration I think it would be great for the playerbase.

Hey there

1: Elementalist has the highest dps possible of any class but it is a complete glass cannon. It is widely regarded as the class for skilled players. Look here for builds and vids showing the correct rotations http://qtfy.enjin.com/elementalist. The easiest class at the moment is definitely Hammer Dragonunter. Maybe have a look at the rotation for that build on quantify if you want something with a more forgiving learning curve.

2: Use http://gw2crafts.net/ for crafting, it’s very good. If you want instructions on how to craft a specific item use https://gw2efficiency.com/crafting/calculator/31079-Mj%C3%B6lnir I’ve put in that hammer as an example but you can use it for nearly every item in the game.

3. Buff foods are definitely worthwhile. The right buff food on the right build can make a significant difference. for instance in WvW there is a gaurdian build that needs uptime on boons. There is a food that gives +15% boon duration and -10% damage received, this food on the gaurd build in question is very good indeed. Sites like quantify and Metabattle will recommend optimum foods for various builds. Sometimes the cheaper versions are very good value. But it’s up to you if you think they are worth it, Some players don’t bother with them.

4: I usually haze out for the story, hopefully someone else can chime in on this.

5: I played ls2 and enjoyed it but it is definetly not required content for ls3. Especially as ls1 introduced the characters and that is not available anymore. Anet charged for ls2 because they could I guess. When Ls3 came out as free content my jaw was on the floor. I had already exchanged gold for gems to pay for it. It was a very nice surprise but as a general rule Anet is very greedy and will milk the playerbase as much as they can.

Hope this helps a bit! have fun out there

Example one: I was getting stomped in t3 fractals, so I looked up solo mai trin lvl 100 on youtube and copied the build and playstyle. Now I just unleash minions on my viper necro and knock out t4 fractals with a smile on my face.

Example two: I enjoy WvW. I’m not very good at it, but I’m having alot more success since a guildie put together a gaurdian tank build with tons of boon duration. Now I have retaliation and stability for days. I only die when I kitten up really really badly now xD. I’m not playing any better, the build is just tankier so I’m able to survive where before I would have died.

Example three: During PvP season 3 I stumbled across a video on youtube showing how massively overpowered the condi mace/bow warrior was. So I hopped on it and got to diamond division. Unlocked illustrious legend title for my kitten and plenty of transmutation charges, which I had always struggled to get before that. Then the build got nerfed and stopped being way OP. I might go back to PvP in the future… when the right build comes along again ^^

Raids: I quite like the idea of raids. The only problem is I’m a total scrub. I’ve beaten VG 3 times but that’s it, and those times I got carried.

On my warrior which is at the stat cap, I can only squeak out a miserable 12k dps. I just can’t keep up with the rotation. I’ve spent hours in the Special Forces Training Area but it’s made no difference.

I also tried a daredevil thief. I took it to the stat cap and I can get 18k dps with the easy rotation, which is just dodging and autoattacking. Unfortunately the high level rotation, which has the unlocked camera and you have to be pointing the camera straight down… that’s just not happening.

I have the resources to take another class to the stat cap. I’m not sure which is the best choice for me though. I’m also not expecting alot from these forums. People are always on here asking for the easiest PvE class and people point them to warrior over necro for some reason which is just wrong.

Anyway what I’d like to get is something that’s easy to play but powerful. Not something that has an easy role in the raid, anyone can pick up the mechanics by watching guides.

let me know thanks.

Edit:
I found this: http://qtfy.enjin.com/dps#Ranking

If someone who knows their stuff could tell me which ones are the easiest that would be great.

I use a timer app on my phone. I set it for 28 mins to allow some breathing room. It would be sweet if you could stack duration, it would be a nice QOL change for WvWers.

I’m just wondering how much the people who contribute to their guilds typically give.

I give 20g a month, I join the guild zerg on WvW not more than 10 times a month. That’s 2g per night towards seige. There’s usually around 25 of us so I reckon I cover my cost at least.

I’m thinking about giving a bit more though. I know it’s a personal thing and I know my guild would say IF you want to contribute, just give whatever you’re comfortable with. Nice and vague.

If anyone is in a similar situation It would be good to hear how much if anything they contribute to their guild.

I’ve been with my guild over a year. The guild itself is fairly wealthy so an increase from me will make zero difference to the guild overall. This is just a personal thing.

I’m thinking of giving 50g a month going forward… is that too much?
