yeah sure, because there is no mmo outthere with sub and ADDITIONAL ingame shop
well tequatl does not fly a single time, he just makes big jumps supported by his wings
owned
that was easy, explaining the flight of the shatterer which doesnt have real wings will be much harder
find a way content is developed as fast as people consume it and we can talk about it
i higly doubt they will divide the playerbase

Ref. my previous post; excuse the crude sketch on the current launcher.
ok this worked, thx a lot
workaround doesnt work for gem fx game is starting but vanilla graphics
a farming round in malchor (not just the cluster) gives between 0-5 foxfires, mostly 1 or 2 (with gathering bonus). test it out, if you get multiple times 0 in a row there might be something wrong
they really need to keep the updates interesting.
i mean, the game is amazing, or even the best i would say..a lot of people loved it upon release…but left after, because of the lack of quality updates.FF14 got it’s first big patch 3 month after release introducing new dungeon, player housing, 24 men raid, new bosses. and they keep getting similar or more content (2 new classes included) every 3 months, while still having small quest story patch/updates, and also an expansion that will be releasing before HoT, even FF14ARR is released 1 year after GW2.
Sure i’m not asking as much quality updates as FF14ARR, because that is sub based.
but i mean come on….at least make the expansion epic..I’ll be hoping and waiting, don’t disappoint me Anet…
yeah its basically the same as to be happy about a dlc 3 weeks after release and ignore the fact that this could be in the game at release. doesnt people recognize that these examples always are short after release because it is content that just wasnt finished for release or hold back to make short sighted people happy with a fast big content patch a few months after?
All they really need to do is make Boon Duration, and Healing stats a bit more effective and prevalent and they would introduce the capability of folks being able to take up support/healing if they want.
With the introduction of Taunt, and the enemies prioritizing Toughness/Armor based characters, Tanks are already in, everyone already does DPS, with the Defiance bar, CC will become a bit more useful. Introduce Boon Duration increase items, and boost healing power a bit more, and done. The holy trinity is there if folks want, but is not necessary. It will not really create much change to the game. most folks would remain berzerkers for PvP, as that will never not be effective, and WvW is too chaotic for effective healers. I would see most healers remaining in PvE, and Dungeons. I can run a fairly successful healer build on my Guardian in most dungeons already.
woot??
there already is equip with boon duration and berzerk is in pvp no thing anymore for a long time.
in my experience people which have problems with the freedom of the classes and wish predetermined roles also have problems with the freedom of gameplay and wish quests and a path (do this that you can do that). the carrot is strong in these people.
so no, a trinity would not make the game more successfull, the philosophy of freedom and self responsibilty is in the whole game and not just dungeons
If there is 90% thief, warrior, ele and engineer in all party mode, is that not data? is that not to take serious?
If that were indeed true, then i guess this would, again, warrant checking out. Is that true in some part of the game?
in the world tournament finals there was no double class, in the region finals there was sometimes a double in a team but always different classes. darksyze is a good example why subjective prediction from mister noname in the internet is meaningless
I’m not gonna pretend I’ve read the whole thread, as most of it doesn’t even interest me. Still, here’s my two cents:
I played GW2 at launch quite a bit, but lost interest after a while. I decided to return now when they announced the expansion, but, naturally, I can’t log in. I’ve long forgotten my character’s names, so I had to get my password reset by support and all that. But it’s been ages since I played, so I decided to hell with it and bought a new copy on the sale. This means I’m now a vanilla player, and will start a brand new character. So any expansion-areas are waaaay beyond my reach. And considering I rarely get to max level anyway, the expansion-area will probably always be beyond my reach.
Furthermore, I did play Neverwinter quite a bit, until they releaesed the Icewind Dale expansion. The problem is that to get there, we first had to grind one of the other two max-level areas for two whole weeks pr character just to unlock the buffs we needed to get there. Two weeks. Pr character. That already excluded a whole lot of players who hated grinding and/or hadn’t reached max level yet. So what’s after that? Grind Icewind Dale to get to the next expansion after that? It would have excluded yet more players. By following this route, they would naturally come to a point where only a handful of players are dedicated enough to get to the new expansion area.
This is a big risk, even for GW2. Not everyone wants to reach max level, and not everyone are dedicated enough or able to do it. The problem is MMORPGs keep releasing expansions focusing mainly on the max level players, so the rest of us keep getting expansion after expansion after expansion we have no interest in. What the developers really SHOULD do is make a ton of content for the max level players, but also improve the low-level areas a lot, too. Make new classes. Make new areas. Make new low-level dungeons. Anything to improve that part of the game too. Not just for new players, but make it fun to make alts, too. Make it fun to try out the new classes.
tl;rd: Focusing on the max level players is great, but please don’t forget the rest of us. We are, after all, the majority of the players.
why should they constantly give such players new content, i mean they already not seen the existing one?
btw, the gw2 addon is not hidden behind grind, you are 80, go to the new areas.
What needs explaining? I guess I can give you a synopsis.
- People on forums who don’t see the big picture complain about one thing that annoys them personally.
- Sometimes they have a point.
- Usually they don’t understand the overall reasons for why something they personally dislike is actually beneficial to the game, and they don’t read up on the reasons, they just post in anger.
- ANet is paying attention to game balance based on data they can more fully gather than can anyone else, and they will make changes when something really is out of whack.
Does that make the text clearer to you?
Shouldn’t us player be the data? I mean, the way i think i understand this link was that , us player information/data is not important until Arena net say so. So if they believe a class is not Op: nothing include player information even data will stop them from see there is problem. So it is player fault to not find counter… should counter be in Op class skill etc? like stealth?
Isn’t us player reporting problem is not data? isn’t player presence data? Example- if majority of player reporting same thing 80%, is that not data? Is that not to take serious? If there is 90% thief, warrior, ele and engineer in all party mode, is that not data? is that not to take serious?
Again i understand what you say, after read link, i feel that Arena net does not care what us player say and do what they want for OP class: even if we report data with evidence and even if those OP percent is large fracture in game modes.
I am concern about this because player data should be take serious and should be important: not some computer data base on metric.
to be honest, a mass of humans is mainly a childish, selfish blob of people without much relevant opinion. with every nerf people will whine about it and others will like it, with every buff people will whine about it and others will like it. there are a few people that see the big picture but they are a minority.
just not your kind of game OP, goodbye
my bet is people that didnt like gw2 for various reasons will still not be satified by the expansion, but why should somebody quit BECAUSE of the expansion. thanks to addon hype a lot of new people will come, some of them will stay. some old players will come back, most of them will quit again after a while.
i really dislike dungeons in gw2, not because of the dungeons themself but mainly because of people like the op
and than there is the differnece between knowing a dungeon and knowing the speedrun nonsense that happens there all the time. i’ve seen every path but till now i refuse to skip half the ini and to cheat the bosses. so no, for some people i dont know the game, and thats totally fine
as i understand the hunt for the new dragon takes place in the expansion areas, which makes sense. what i cant see is that nothing happens in old tyria or other living stories will go to another direction, f.e. crystal waste.
i think it will go this way in the future, one or two living stories to introduce the new dragon avaiable for everyone and after this the main part as an expansion.
thanks to the nature of the mists where time is a non linear thing, they can place revenants at the beginning of the personal story without breaking the ingame logic. the thinking the revenant gets a complete new experience till lvl 80 in the existing content was just stupid.
the appearance of revenants in the past (begin of personal story) is pretty easy to handle because of his direct connection to the mists. but i wonder what they will do with another class not connected to the mists when people are so narrow minded with chronology. by the way a chronology where everybody is leader of the pact and killed zaithan multiple times is not worth the thinking about it.
to be honest, i see gem store equip just like a ingame vendor thats sells them. there is no difference between buying a cultural weapon, karma equip or a gem store item. if you have to do something special in the game for the equip its something different, but most of the armors are just vendor material and the gem shop is just another one. so i got no problem with it
“PRNGs are typically also periodic, which means that the sequence will eventually repeat itself. While periodicity is hardly ever a desirable characteristic, modern PRNGs have a period that is so long that it can be ignored for most practical purposes.”
The length of the periodic sequence is huuuge, and it’s nothing that makes the results predicable so easily. Especially if another randomicity like order of execution is put into play.
The reason why there are applications for true random generators is because some use cases like cryptographic key generation have strict requirements as some algorithms may be weak if fed with weak keys (i.e. keys with a low so called entropy). I know this, since I am a software architect in a team that creates firmware for hardware security modules, we use true and pseudo random generators.
Don’t let yourself be set on the wrong horse. Everything here is working as intended and from the figures presented I cannot see a problem with the RNG implementation.
So there is a predetermined sequence. If you have one sequence per day and every millisecond represents a number, of course that number will be huge. The point is, when does that sequence reset, and at what moment(s) your sequence gives you the best odds of pulling a precursor? If you can find that out, and from what I’m reading from you it can be done, RNG is merely a pool of data rather than a roll of the dice. I’m also wondering whether the pRNG system your company uses has the low level of complexity required to accommodate tens of thousands of users without bogging down the servers to a complete standstill. Apart from the fact that your company is probably not stuck with pRNG architecture from 2008, cause from what I’ve read a whole lot has changed since then.
just to think about, you have a segment of predetermined numbers, and you have another segment with predetermined numbers, but shorter, it will reset befor the other. now they will take numbers from both as a variable and generate a new number. nearly invinite possibilities. i really think you underestimate programers, there is no 1 segment of numbers that will repeat after a while, normaly they use prng only as a variable in another equation, thats called a hybrid random number generator
The thing is that individual attempts SHOULD matter.
This is a game. You can’t have indivual players not having fun and ejoying it because of some ‘big picture’.
The game can’t be fun just for some, and the rest just there to watch those few have the fun.
The very moment you can’t get something regardless of skill and dedication, that’s something to fix.
RNG cannot exist alone. Every item must be acquirable with at least either skill or dedication, and RNG being there just for nice extras. RNG must NEVER be the one and only way to acquire anything. This includes indirectly by allowing players to sell somthing they got from RNG in the first place. Something being tradable is never an excuse for something being RNG-only.
Raw RNG alone without filtering and control should not exist in any game. Because it makes things as boring as a slot machine. There must always be some way to weight chances, like specific spots to have a higher chance for something to drop, or being able to salvage and craft what you never get.
There’s people who are being fooled into enjoying things like gambling slot machines, but that’s just a flaw in the human brain’s reward system that gambling exploits.
Hopefully the pre-legendary masteries with the upcoming HoT will address this issue, by adding a way to aquire pre-legendaries through dedication and skill.
and exactly this they will do with the addon and maybe the thought of “i want this pre or cannot enjoy this game” is a flaw in some brains too
While everyone will say RNG!, the rng in this game always seemed messed up in some way. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had an account reward level attached to the accounts much like fractals and some accounts were marked up a lot more than others.
just one short little question. why should they do this? what is the benefit of it?
And you just showed that you didn’t read a single post in this thread. You’re assuming a true RNG system which this game does not have. It’s pseudo RNG meaning the rolls are predetermined. And if your lucky number for getting a precursor only pops up at times that you’re either asleep or at work, you can chuck whatever you want in that forge but the chance you’ll get a precursor is zero, not .2%.
i know only one rng system with predetermined numbers and thats xcom. and there it has a purpose because they wanted to avoid save skitten, but you can enable it in the options and get every time a new random generated number.
but please tell me, whats the advantage to use predeterminated list of numbers instead of generate them single? it just make no sense for a game like gw2, the math is not so complicated to create one that a processor cant handle it.
and a number must not be really random to be random enough, for example use just two variables, maybe milliseconds and the colour of a pixel, the outcome would not be true random but random enough to have no way to influence or foresee the outcome.
the chances that a brain searching for patterns in rng (and you know, brains do that) and find some where are none is way higher than a rng system that can be influenced in any way
Predetermined and random are not mutually exclusive. If a predetermined result is determined randomly, and one does not know the randomly generated predetermined result, what is the difference?
The difference is when you find out at which moment the predetermined set of outcomes resets – let’s assume at the usual reset time – and around which time after that reset your lucky RNG number should pop up in the predetermined sequence. Some people who forged an incredible amount of precursors will always do so at a certain time of the day. They do that for a reason.
pretty sure when they use time in any way for rng, it would be milliseconds and smaller and not hours
I’m a logic person. After buying 3 precursors, I have done the math, using statistics and the experience of other people to persuade myself to use the mystic forge instead of buying the precursors. Basically, the odds of getting a pre is .2 % from rares. Using a cumulative binomial calculator, the odds of getting 1 or more pre from 350 attempts is 50%….
Well, after 1100 attempts, I’ve convinced myself to quit. I know.. 100 trolls will say good ridden. Whatever. I’ll never buy an Anet game or all other affiliates. You have wasted my time enough already…You also had a 99.8% chance of not getting a precursor from rares, and a 50% chance of not getting 1 or more pre from 350 attempts according to your statistics. How’s that for perspective?
Statistics don’t guarantee anything, it’s just there to inform you.
That’s not how stats work. Imagine you flip a coin 10 times. What are the odds you don’t get heads? Do you know the math? The odds are 99.9% chance you get at least one head.
The same formula is applied to the mystic forge. But at 1100 attempts, I have a 90% chance of getting a pre.
thats just wrong. with a 0,2% chance its just a thing of luck or not. you could have one in the first 10 tries or you could have none in 4000 tries. statistic tries to bring a pattern in a rng system, but there is no pattern in rng. you have a really tiny chance to get one in a try and a huge to get none, no matter how often you try it.
for everyone that got 2 or more in 1000 tries there is one that got none. only in this way you get your average chances.
i really like underwater and its combat too, and to be honest its way better than the air combat in aion
pretty sure revenant is op in the beginning and everybody complains about it, after a while they begin to balance it and people will complain about nerf. its always the same
to be honest, i would find it really laughable when an elder dragon could be killed by just a group of players. problem is we are talking here about a living mountain as a boss encounter, maybe zaithan was a disappointment game mechanic wise, but i cant imagine a solution to defeat an elder dragon without a massive army and war machines
i mean a raid, really? did you see jormags teeth in holbreak?
the main problem is you need the double amount of silk which is harder to farm than ore or wood. i really dont know what they thought by doing it this way (ok i think they wanted to get rid of the huge amounts of worthless silk in the beginning, but these times are long gone now)
So borderline pay to win.
yep, yesterday i met a player of the opposing team in wvwvw and stored him in my new bought bank space
You mean F2P?
P2F is Pay to Free…
I guess you can pay to free if you want to, but what would you be freeing?
its pay to fly…..gliiiders huiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Why do you think we need gating?
because people consume content like a swarm of locusts and complain afterwards about boredom. how long did it go till the first people came after release and complained about nothing to do, two weeks? so when they dont slow down the players it would be with an addon just a few days.
basically its exactly what they announced at PAX not more not less
So I was listening to the regular POI, and heard this:
“unlocking a waypoint after progressing a certain amount”
“unlocking NPC interactions”
“unlocking resource farms”Does anyone else feel this could be horrific BS? After the screaming over progression-gating traits, skill-lots and other features, they’re going to add more progression-gating?
I mean, ‘unlocking’ waypoints could just mean getting them uncontested, but it doesn’t sound like that to me. It sounds like people need to progress the meta event for the map to be accessible.
The new maps are going to be all 100% Silverwaste style, so I’m bracing myself for fights about people being on the map and but participating in the meta events. We’ve seen enough of that with champ trains and Silverwastes/Dry Top. Some people like wandering, or finding interesting NPC dialogue, or taking absurd screenshots! Sometimes people like doing meta events at one point and not another. But if we have to deal with the meta events to get access to the map, apparently. Why is ANet building an entire expansion solely for a single playstyle?
Other major problems:
- Zones shown seem totally designed around group play. People playing at offhours are SOL.
- Adventures and leaderboards – does anyone else have more info on how these work? Can we disallow our data showing up on leaderboards? Not everyone likes measuring their kitten every play session, and some people like playing alone/have stalkers/etc and don’t want to share their favorite content with all and sundry.
thanks to the people always complaining about just one or two hour content in LS. now they slow down the players to accomplish their expectations for at least xx hours content in the addon.
anet listen to their customers, so better beware what you wish
using gemfx in the bin folder and works totally fine. did you start the gemfx configurator, maybe its set as enabled there
1. That “Challenging content” is implemented poorly. While I’ll reserve final judgement for release, challenging to me is not racing against people for a higher leader-board score while everyone can do the adventure (as seen the the POI). to me it is a clear cut thing, you were skilled enough to complete this adventure, here is your unique reward well done/ you failed as a result you died and you also get nothing because failure should not be rewarded. Challenging is <90% of the player-base being physically unable to complete the piece of content with that % getting even higher the more challenging content faced.
its really funny how many pve elitists are afraid of to compete with the real deal, another human and not a stupid scripted AI.
What does grind have to do with crafting time gate ?
I have all the materials, because I collected them first. And then I went crafting that thing..
What is the difference if I have ascended item in 5min or in 15days ?
I dont see any grind there, I see only time crafting.I have to come on crafting station every day… Was that because of that daily reward system ?
They want people to log in every day, so they can show their boss the statistic of how good their game is, because people are logging in every day.So now when they have that daily reward and they solved their problem with login.
They can remove that time gate crafting.
doesnt fit because you already can buy/sell the finished ascended materials. so this whole thread is pointless. its only to keep the ascended mats valuable
Imagine this game without updates for the whole year.. Yeah..My guessing is april 28.
There have been no information whatsoever that there will be no updates between now and release of the expansion.
In fact I believe it to be completely opposite and that they have actually said that there WILL be updates between now and release (I’ll see if I can find it).
And what updates will it be? Pavilon? SAB? Dragon Bash? LS is dead.
rebuilding of lions arch would be the perfect filler
pretty sure the hot addon finishes the mordremoth chapter of the story and coming living story parts will aim for other dragons, so the north or crystal waste could be the new targets
sometimes i really wonder ……………. :/
unrealistic expectations – reality = dissapointment
but to be fair, some peoples thoughts fly so high, its not anets fault to dissapoint them.
Why use Gliders if we have Waypoints in HoT?

because you have to activate the waypoint first

It could be possible that the Revenant gets a small little story that you play before you do the actual race starting mission..? Idk.
just replacing it would make more sense.
Revenant Starting Area [Possible Spoilers]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

i could imagine they introduce a new introducing area (like the sylvari dream) for revenants (race independent). when revenants are people escaping from the mists why not show the escape? it would totally make sense, more sense like the normal racial introduction. ridlock managed to open a way out of the mists and maybe its open permanently. so ridlock would be the first revenant and everybody who follows will be another. the starting instances are tiny, shouldnt be to much work to do, it would be a nice little feature and it would fit lorewise (for the timeline, the exitpoint of the mist could lie in the past. we already know time is not a fixed thing in the mists)
(edited by BammBamm.6719)
You assume I will not buy the expansion….. You are dead wrong.
I just don’t think I would call all of these features expansion worthy comparing it to other MMO expansions.
when you buy the expansion, its worthy enough
and hey, when there is really not “worthy” content (and there is no way there is enough content for people with your attitude) i’m pretty sure you will find enough content in whining in the forums about………“stuff”
you are aware that in hoelbrak loading screen are skyscrapers and mounts? artwork has nothing to do with the reality ingame
ye so lame that we get free content to keep us going in between expansions instead of waiting ~2 years without getting anything.
/sarcasm
Now take that same mentality and apply it to your favorite tv show. Why should a network give you the final season for free? It should go direct to DVD on a per episode basis for $20 a pop! Best way to milk your loyal fans.
maybe they should begin to place commercials in the game to earn money, or a subscription like pay-tv
They don’t need that, they’re like PBS they have benefactors like me who spend a lot in the gem store.
and that made possible to give us free content and support and servers for the past 2 years (totally without commercials and advertisement)
