Though i appreciate the changes to WvW’s reward system, I am extremely disappointed with the fact that a weapon which may take 2 months to acquire only has exotic stats. Though I understand that you want to focus on a cosmetic form of rewards, are you seriously unwilling to create another avenue to aqcuiring ascended weapons. Two months of wvw, imho, is very deserving of an ascended weapon, if not a weapon that is easier to turn into ascended weaponry.

The marionette fight is pretty standard, nice mechanics, not rewarding in the slightest, a nice ap grind, but I have to wait every 2 hours to do it. CREATE INSTANCED ZONES. Make the lfg tool squad supportive. Allow us to create squads through lfg and give individuals a limit of runs they can do per day. This wait 2hrs and have to get their an hour early only detracts from the game.

So, Um… You think a more logical assessment of the situation is that Anet intends to place a subscription fee on an already existent subscription fee as opposed to them using a very common contemporary gaming market practice of offering a free product with added benefits after monthly payments.

Okay…

P.S: Btw I know it wont happen hear in the US, however the fact that the game is marketed as a f2p mmo and then goes back on this statement is disturbing to me. I have no problem spending money on gems or expansions, i do have issues with false marketing.

Yes. I think it’s perfectly logical to assume (based on the official response given) that the “VIP status” is meant as an additional tier to the subscription fee China requires. The more you spend per month, the more perks you get (this would also explain the data mined “levels” you saw).

If you want to assume the official is lying… then there’s really not much we can discuss on the matter, now is there?

Considering that Martin made no mention of china and simply stated that it wouldn’t be used in the west. I believe you’re adding a bit of prediction to the situation. Regardless, I believe this arguments has gone on long enough.
I apologize for any insult and good night.

A LITTLE BIT OF LOGIC DOES WONDERS HERE. Its not a model for china simply because its a VIP membership. Meaning there is an alternate version, of which requires no monthly subscription. if Chinese laws requires a subscription fee, there can’t be a lack thereof in the game. A vip membership describing more skill points and more prestige obviously means you can play the game without paying for this subscription and simply must endure " less skillpoints" and “prestige”. Therefore the vip system is being researched for a territory that has no laws forcing a game to operate through a subscription fee.

Or… it’s an additional [x] amount per month on top of the normal monthly fee? Hence “Very Important Person” status?

Nah… that can’t be it. Clearly it’s another scheme by those dastardly villains at Arena.net to turn the game into a subscription model. It all makes PERFECT SENSE!

that fact that you have the audacity to consider it for any territory is disturbing, to say the least.

Uhh, like Chinese law making this sort of model necessary?

You may want to take that up with the Chinese government and whatever third party “company” they picked to distribute/nationalize/make proper for viewing the game in their country, not ANet.

I want a place that allows me to place all my skins and doesn’t force me to get rid of a skin I really enjoy to try out a new skin. I know you want to sell transmutation stones. So maybe reduce their gem store price and make them a currency that allows you to access the armor skin wallet.

The idea of having inter profession specializations is pretty intriguing and could really work. It’s also an excellent way to introduce new weapons and skills. It should require some sort of effort( not too much) to specialize and should happen at level 80.

Its not that difficult to create a good story, its difficult to create a phenomenal story; but GW2 story is poor at best and the attempts to enhance it have been severely lacking.

That about sums it up.

Some may make excuses about hard it is to do this or that or what limitations could be put on the writer or how hard it is to come up with a decent story (and it really isn’t), but the fact is, even the bare basics of competent writing just aren’t there….

The thing is Tybald wasn’t even that good of a character he was just alot better than the others. He had a very minimal background, some pretty cringe worthy lines, and just wasn’t that interesting. Don’t get me wrong, I liked him. But in a game with a good story a character like tybald would have been a minor character.

I wrote a pretty lengthy post on the absolute bare basics of storytelling a while ago. That about sums up my personal opinion of ANet’s competence in that regard.

You rightly talk about so much of the missing potential – hell, I thought themes of unity and cooperation showed some genre awareness when I first heard of them – but the writing doesn’t go as far as meeting the minimum standards to begin with before it can indulge in something more profound.

From cliche perspective, there are some hints of things that GW2 does right, or at least knows should maybe be kinda done I guess, whatever. For instance, the story lets you hang around characters that are going to be killed off so that their death has some sort of impact instead of being a meaningless statistic. It’s not done well, but it’s a start.

There are hints of originality here and there. Little jokes, a few strokes of paint on some characters. Asura storyline in particular is allowed to be more interesting by virtue of doing away with any dignity…

I agree with about everything you said. And the thing is it seems like Anet either intentionally handicapped its story or simply gaveup on it. Its not that difficult to create a good story, its difficult to create a phenomenal story; but GW2 story is poor at best and the attempts to enhance it have been severely lacking. The living world was a perfect opportunity but all we received was the same old writing with a different skin.

I decided to place this thread here because it involves both personal and living story.

Anyway lets begin.

In my honest opinion the writing and storytelling of GW2 is inherently flawed. In Anet’s pursuit of creating a game based on universal player collaboration, I feel like they forego important plot devices. The writers have created a cliche story that entirely lacks moral dilemmas and places the character on the backseat. Say what you will of games like TOR, its story had choice; not these mediocre arbitrary uninvolved decisions that are forced upon the player.
Playing the entire personal story I felt like my character had no personal progression, sure he became second in command for the pact; but there is no evidence of personality or dynamic growth. When I played TOR I could accurately describe my characters personality, aims, and goals. In gw2 he’s just a norn errand boy who ends up leading as second in command for a group( whose inception was rushed) that lacks any fleshed out materiel. GW2 simply refuses to embrace the mature plot points that make rps like the witcher and DAO enjoyable.
All that amazing opportunities to discuss political and moral state of the world are entirely forgotten. Don’t misunderstand me the setting is good, but it lacks focus. The conflict between the ministry and the queen, the charr legions, etc… These things are entirely forgotten. One I heard about the living story I was hoping perhaps that Anet would branch out of its writing shell. it didn’t.
Instead we receive more characters forced down our throat, I don’t want to be forced to like characters. Destiny’s edge characters are entirely one sided and fit into perfect boring archetypes. Braham and rox had no redeeming qualities. Scarlet is a poor antagonist that lacks any relatable qualities, the consortium simply can’t be sympathized with(AT ALL). Yes some things are being done fore the story by introducing characters like majory and kasmeer( Primarily their potential les relationship} but they’re simply still not fleshed out enough.
Now to living story and personal story integration. It doesn’t exist…. Second in command of the pact you should have a more formal role in the story. Their should be plot points where we use pact resources to help fight scarlet. the orders are completely ignored. Recent patches have begun to integrate a bit but still its no where near enough. A few lines of dialogue simply isn’t enough. I spent hours forcing my way through the personal story I’d like to see the fruits of my effort. I’m sick of the pc taking a backseat to poor characters with cliche storylines. Your character should have aims, desires, and goals that can be translated from the ps to the living world. Again second in command of the most powerful organization in the game shouldn’t feel like an errand boy, we’re important political characters that should be able to intervene and shift political events. A captain of the seraph doesn’t ask the second in command of the pact to do something. Its like saying that the director of the secret service could order the vice chairman of a UN( that has actual military power) to do something.

My advice to the story writers, move away from the cliche global peace and love story to a story that focuses on inter and intraracial conflcict. Address the immense power the player holds. Allow our character to decide its opinions on characters. Add more lore regarding the racial enemies( Why are there so much bandits, who leads the flame legion, what is the nightmare court doing, what are the inquests aims) Also makes these enemies more relatable.

Last of all kill off characters….

If YOU could change 7 things about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Barsimoprimo.2759

Barsimoprimo.2759

1. Make the game actually open world.
2. Make it more sandbox( Meaning housing, farming, Naval Combat, etc…)
3. Make more skills for each weapon
4. Zhaitan fight needs a complete overhaul.
5. Not create a cliche story with poor writing that forces you to like horribly written characters( looking at you Logan)
6. Create ingame npc factions that players can join that are inconflict with each other( not based on race) All this come together story is boring and childish.
7.Create lots more skins and a armor and weapon skin wallet.

Gw2 needs to take some pointers from games like Diablo and borderlands. A good portion of the mmo fanbase enjoy the loot grind feel. I want it to be viable to pursue both aesthetic and higher tier gear through running dungeons or farming DE’s. I want it to be viable for me to go to the fractals run it for a couple of days and have a chance to get ascended gear. Also GW2 should have new unlockable weapons for professions that require a challenge to acquire. ( NOT GRIND) A challenge, like a dungeon or boss fight. I personally enjoy aesthetic progression so I feel like its useless for me to play holiday events, especially this year( No new skins) . Achievements are NOT a proper mechanic to insensitive player participation. Instead of trying to get us to play updates for an achievement , perhaps you should have released an armor piece for every living story update. That way I an other players can get a " Living Story Act One Armor Set". Something that intices progression wise and instentivises me to play the living story. Also add an ARMOR SKIN WALLET. Make it a gem item just make it. I hate the fact that I have to throw away a skin if I want to try another one. You can still make trans stones necessary just allow players to progress through skin collections.

Add more traits for professions.
Add more skills some of which should be universal to all professions others should be profession based. Bring back the GW1 mechanic of running instances to obtain skills. Also I’m not to sure about this one but perhaps add more skills to weapons allowing us to further customize our builds by picking weapon skills out of a larger pool of skills.

Guardians have basically become glass cannons without the cannon part. We have a horrifically low health pool, relatively low dps, mediocre toughness, okay condition damage( with one condition). I understand guardian’s are a good support class but as of now that’s the only role we play relatively well , however, the support role is one of the most unrewarding and useless in independent world pvp.

Barsimoprimo.2759

Have you never heard of this weapon called focus?
Personally, I’ve been using a Mace/Focus build with the trait that burns enemies if you are blocking. Additonally, you have the first heal skill, the one that allows you to block while casting it. Also, I went into the bottom tree that grants you reduced CD on virtues.
I’ve been doing pretty good so far, not sure if it has any viability compare to toher builds though (and I have yet to try it in PvP)

I agree on the shield feeling pretty bad for melee combat, but I still like to use it with a scepter.

I agree with you but there was no need for you to be rude when replying to the topic poster.
Anyway I feel for efficient blocking you’ll have to use utilities and a focus.

Personal Story: It really is all about you (Spoilers)

Barsimoprimo.2759

No its not. It is your personal story in which you grow as a hero and also influence others to rise against common enemy and abandon old hatreds for the ultimate goal of saving Tyria and all of her denizens. It is a story of love, sacrifice and friendship, it is a story seen trough your hero’s eyes, witnessing and being part of heroic deeds and painful loses.
….It is your story.

If you have seen a bit less than I have just said than I am sorry for you my friend.

Huh what… I don’t know what game you were playing but the GW2 personal story was nowhere near as deep or as intricate as you describe it. As a whisper agent I can only recall one moment of sacrifice and it clearly lacked any effort. I didn’t feel a single thing, which I personally found quite odd because the character that is sacrificed was the only character I liked.

Trahearne: I personally find him to be probably worst character. :SPOILERS:

in Personal Story

Posted by: Barsimoprimo.2759

Barsimoprimo.2759

I feel that the majority of the personal story is flat. For instance the Destiny Edge members are irrational, unrealistically dynamic. For instance Logan goes from having an unhealthy desire of being near the queen to leaving in a matter of minutes. In the Order of Whispers Tybalt is quite a well made character, but the lack of background he receives is almost offensive, and a large amount of his dialogue sucks. On the other hand I found Trahearne to be the sole character with interesting companion missions. ( The Pale Tree Future Mission). Ultimately the personal story was in my opinion a miss. It was cliche and it honestly showed a large lack of effort when it came to its development.( Bad Voice Acting, Bad Writing, Stupid Characters, Very Predictable)

I have no problem with the cliche story but the way in which it was presented was lackluster at best .
