1. You are killing pre-existing server community. Longevity of WvW is based on the principle that allies and rivalries are just as important as the game mode itself. It’s what keeps people playing WvW. It keeps the team play and competition healthy in a very static map in a very static meta with a very static strategy based on your population at a given time.

2. You are making buckets for PUGs versus Guilds. Very bad idea simply because PUGs are not PUGs. PUGs are WvW players that don’t want to be lumped into some random function of chance that they get the right leader/active world. And in order for this to self-correct, you then have to wait ~3 months for the reset…yeah, that won’t kill WvW. /s

3. Your system mimics EotM too much. If you’ve spent any significant amount of time in EotM, you’d see the flaw with being lumped with strangers into a match destined for snowballing for one side over another.

4. There are simpler and much more easier to implement solutions. If you are trying to get server transferring for free and basically forcing everyone off their current game world to reset where people go, why not just do that. In your scenario, guild leaders get first crack at where they go but I’m not sure that even makes the most sense since all that does is encourage mega-guilds.

A much simpler alternative solution would open up free world transferring for a specific period of time (announce a month+ ahead of time so guilds can coordinate) using the server population cap of the highest WvW server currently (BG in NA). Then after a few weeks, force move (must choose a different server) the low population server players also for free. Everyone is now on a closer to “high” population server. Re-lock worlds/start new glicko and reboot as a new WvW season.

I see what you’re trying to achieve SkyShroud and it’s good to see some serious thought on alternatives other than restart everything. But, how does your idea work better than the one I posted here (sixth post or so down) ?

Oh and responding to your title: I vote to keep servers and server identity.
Despite the trauma of linking I still feel a loyalty to, and camaraderie with, my server through my guilds and my friends. I doubt I am alone in this.

So, you know what WvW is, what it is suppose to be and how it should be played. And anyone who disagrees with your view should not be allowed to play in WvW?

The real problem are the players who have extremely narrow view of WvW, and constantly try to force their own interpretation to every other player. People play WvW for different reasons, and there is no “wrong” or “right” way. Or to put it simpler, get that stick out of you, try to relax and have some fun

It is not just about number of wvw players. The score is ticking 24h, and some servers are able to cover this timeframe much better even with less players.

During the rush hour you can have many times more players compared to the opponents but maps are limited and queues will prevent extra people joining.

So, the population is not everything. There is also matter of defining “active wvw player”. Everyone has different opinion about what counts as active. Someone who spends 5 hours in wvw every day? Logs into wvw for at least 5 minutes? Couple times a week? Once a month?

Finally, there is huge number of players who do not go to wvw for the win and do not care about the score. They are doing it for fun. They are looking for fights only, either zerg vs zerg or group vs group or even 1v1. Taking or defending an objective is just a excuse for more fights.

What the OP proposes, if I understand it correctly, would end up creating hostile attitude against anyone else joining the wvw. “Oh, no, look at this player who just dared to pop into wvw, he is completely ruining our score, go away you nobb!”

I think you misunderstood the Commander. The Blackgate TS has an auto-verify function that allows you to instantly join, but it requires you to be Rank 50 to do so. That cuts down on spies. You can still verify under Rank 50, but you’ll need to chat with a TS Admin to do so. Not worth getting into the whole TS vs. Discord debate; TS is the chat tool of choice for BG.

It also requires you to give out your api key, and people who speculate heavily on tp might not want people viewing there account info or any other info for that matter (even though it’s read only).

I have yet to hear of any logical argument t as to why keeping players out of TS using any method prevents spying.

Api key to verify your on blackgate, you can have another account on that you use for the api key and ur main acct is on another server.

Being rank 50 in wvw – ez just rank up to lvl 50 on ur bg acct and then ur in TS

Also you can just not be in TS and just look at the map to see where 99% of all players are, no TS required.

So having restrictions on TS doesn’t really prevent spying at all, and I wonder how many legit BG players have been barred from joining TS because of this. I bet it’s way more then potential spies it’s stopped.

This also causes exclusion of new players since most commanders want TS and kick u from squad if your not in it, so again it excludes anyone under rank 50 making new players probably not want to play at all.

This is an awful system and whoever thought of it should change it.

When it says Ascended WvW armor, does this work for both T2 and T3 WvW armor? Or only T2 Ascended as most people might go for.
