How does death work in the lore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Alternate dumb explanation that dawned on me during the living story.

“The mists” are basically the netherworld where all the spirits of the dead go, right?

There is literally a door to the netherworld smack dab in the middle of a busy city in the center of Tyria!

A player that dies, just wakes up in the mists and walks out of the kitten Asura gate. We’re ALL Revenenants.

…Okay, lore-wise not really, obviously.

But still, when Rytlock jumped into the mists portal, that was my first reaction.
While Rox’s reaction was “Oh no, how will he return from the mists!?”
Mine was “Uh… I go to the mists on a daily basis. For fun. There’s a door that goes straight there right in town. Common, let’s just hop in there, and you can look for him while I knock out my PvP dalies.”

Let’s get serious and have a Legendary Vuvuzela! It’s would be the ultimate WvW Taunt. “Someone kill that guy!”

How about some Castanets too? That actually might be exciting if we just had a Dancer classes from Final Fantasy Tactics.
- " Dancer job command. Perform mysterious dances to create unusual effects."
- Last Dance: The ultimate dance. Drops the Charge Time of all enemies to zero.

Nah, being more serious I’d really like to see something like a javelin.

Too many specialization icons?

Arioso.8519

Here’s my suggestion: Just color code the icons.

Each base class already has a color, as shown in the PvP stat pie chart.

All Guard specializations are blue icons, all Mesmer specializations are magenta, all engie specs are yellow, all necros dark green, etc. The key here is that each set has the exact same color/shade.

Then that makes it very easy to group them and you can still identify an elite spec on sight.

Wow, a nice inventory you got there. Is there a reason connected to HOT that made you not open them until now? Why are you waiting?

Well im trying to get mats ready for HOT and thats my Goal

That doesn’t answer why you wait to open them all at once, or wait, at all

Ok….to make alot of Gold!!

right if you had opened than before and not hoard unitl 70.000 you had not get any gold…..oh wait O.o

or your fanbase gives/donate you gold/money cause of awesome open 70.000 event /show at twitch . and this event you already advertised here not only in this thread

if you create such an event be a man and stop Q.Q

no normal player saves 70.000 and open at once. if you do so, deal with many clicks, my little special snowflake and stop the excuse you only want to make it easier for everyone else

its just to advertise your event/selfpromotion

General Thoughts About Quality

Much of what you said here is sound, and reasonable. However I can tell you straight up the teams I worked with when I was doing QA for an MMO were more effective when they worked directly with development, and our goal was never perfection, it was centered on “is it working as intended?” And “can we break or exploit it?”

I did like what you had to say about cataloging bugs to predict/avoid future flaws. A system like that could be valuable. Especially when a change in staff has occurred.

Other than that many on the GW2 team have already worked on major MMO’s from what I’ve read, and I’m sure they have already witnessed such a system in place, or at least one would think they have.

Is f2p causing community toxicity?

I just had a moderately annoying experience. After finishing a dungeon run with a PUG with relative ease, I asked if they wanted to do the next easy path in the dungeon, to which they replied “Kitten you” and immediately kicked me from the party. My guildie, who was running the dungeon with me, laughed when I said I had reported them for verbal abuse. I realize that they were probably joking but it’s so hard to tell via text alone.

Was I being melodramatic? Why do we put up with people like this? To tie this back to the title, I understand that almost a month ago, guild wars 2 went f2p or “free to try” or whatever. Could this be adversly affecting the amazing community (overall) that we have here?

No, I don’t think F2P is causing community toxicity, although I do think a lot of toxicity will be blamed on F2P, even if it was there beforehand. Because it’s an easy target to blame, and people tend to forget that the game always had a few cranky players.

What happened to you has happened before in PUGs, way before F2P. That’s just the way that some people choose to behave. Spending money on something doesn’t make you a nice person. There are people who look like they single-handedly keep the gem store running, and they are just as rude.

Any group of people who will exclude you over a handful of digital currency were never your friends in the first place.

The guild system is changing drastically with Guild Halls so if possible wait to see if that changes the situation, but if you are forced to choose I would stick with my IRL friends if I were in your shoes.

Guilds are not for friends. For friends you have the friendlist. Guilds are for people to get together for a common goal.

But yes, I hope for the guild change with HoT too. Alot if what has been anounced is effectively to remove the current system problems. If we really can represent 5 guilds at the same time, and guild currencie is only ganied with guildmissions and raids and that the overall guildschat works, well then the guild system is pretty close to be perfect.

Guilds are not for friends? lol

Okay so supposed 12 friends all want to chat at one time. How do they do that with the friends list? Suppose friends are doing different things in game, but they still want to keep in touch with each other.

Guilds aren’t just for what you say. They’re for a range of things, because social guilds are a thing.

I just object to the OP trying to blame something on f2p players, without having any actual evidence that a f2p player was responsible. Isn’t the playerbase divided enough without making unprovable assumptions?

The only toxicity I’ve seen as a result of F2P is “veterans” being toxic to those F2P people. I’ve not experienced any toxicity coming from people who are playing the game for free. On the other hand since the update every single time something negative happens they get the blame. So the answer to your question is yes, F2P is causing toxicity in the community since people are being toxic towards them

toxicity…trolls

gw2 itself already has a lot of dota/lol-like kids, so it has nothing to do with f2p, the proportion of these kids are the same through out.

They’re as many types of guilds as there are types of people.

Ive been in military style guilds with a leader who demands respect.
Ive been in sarcastic guilds full of teenage boys.
Ive been in a racist guild where everyone desperately tried to ignore the leaders racism.
I’ve been in guilds that run schedules and the leaders work hard.
I’ve been in guilds that are casual and just have pickup groups.
Ive’ been in guilds that have 250+ people in team speak.
I’ve been in guilds where nobody will ever enter team speak.
I’ve been in guilds that are full of mean smart people.
I’ve been in guilds full of friendly dumb people.

The problem I’ve finally figured out all these years of guilds later……..do you research before entering a guild. Also do a trial period. Not a trial period for the guilds behalf. Do a trial period on your behalf to test them out. Be willing to leave if you’re not happy.

A few months of pc gaming and you’ve done it tried all the guilds eh? Funny it took me 10 years and dozens of guilds to get perspective.

Well at least your opinion isn’t definitive huh?

I’m 46. I do not do Reddit. I was so happy to see an unexpected event today, but before I started I saw the posts here about the reward issue. Hey, no big deal, we all make mistakes and I’m sure it will be fixed through a patch very soon. Can you just please post status and update info here more often, instead of Reddit?

BTW, I love the game, it’s the only one I play.
