I would love this. I could finally talk my wife into playing.

To all the people saying this can’t work, I’d like to direct your attention to Final Fantasy XIV. Works, runs, plays, perfectly. It’s also cross-platform.

and is made with the console in mind, GW2 isn’t.

I know people will say, “hook your pc up to your TV…blah blah..” but that doesn’t work. Even the steam consoles are ropey at best and don’t work anywhere near as well as the consoles.

Xbone and PS4 are just cheap PCs with custom OS.

That makes sense. Those darn Asura would want to kill off the competition so people would keep using their products. They’re probably scanning our credit card numbers every time we use a portal too.

The time-gating thing bugs me too. I expect there’s some economic rationale where time-gating will somehow prevent flooding the market or something, but surely there’s a better way? Let us craft as much as we want, and – if you must limit sales on TP – limit them at that point, on the TP.

I don’t mind putting in hard work for something I want. I just hate being limited arbitrarily.

Time gating pushes you to log in every day (or week, whatever the gate), turning it into a habit for you. Also, it’s a way to artificially stretch out content when there is a lack of it.

I think the thing I love best about this thread is that in the time it’s been running you could have MADE a piece of exotic armor and be well on your way to having a weapon done too if it uses wood. I haven’t bothered with final assembly, but I’ve made all the time gated mats for my gloves while following the drama. Just need helm and shoulders and one more weapon.

6 armor slots and 2-4 weapons. It just NOT that high a level of expectation from most people planning to be playing for a year or more.

What if you will need two, or even three different sets for the entire raid?

…I’ll cheer that they came up with something so inventive and demanding it not only requires some roles-distinction but it requires swapping those roles between bosses?

The question is what does ascended add to that? Just a bit more exclusivity?

Lets be honest, Ascended Armour gives you +20 Primary Stat and +16 to Secondary Stats – this is EXTREMELY unlikely to be the difference between a win and loss. You can very easily use exotic armour with the rune set you desire paired with Ascended Trinkets etc to change build.

People thinking “oh you need Ascended thats such a gear barrier” are not actually looking at what they gain from it… Or being deliberately misleading…

It’s the same people that shake their fists while screaming “MANIFESTO!!”

Yeah. I agree that ascended won’t give players as much of an advantage as some claim.

So tempted to create a GIF for that.

EDIT: And done.

My main isn’t a Necro but I feel sorry for Necros…

If people are expecting ascended then Necro’s will even be more neglected

Like some else said if it needs ascended then it matter more about what classes you bring. So Zerker Zerk(No idea about warrior elite zerker being a meta but I just like typing Zerker Zerk) ascended only no Necro. Which I’ve never understood because this groups state Warr/Guard Zerk only yet still type no Necro.

Because people listen to some math computer geek gamer with a fancy you tube channel(Fun with Flags anyone?) who told them, probably a couple of years ago, that a necro does this and that X% badder than class X and so has to be shunned, avoided and shamed on all levels instead of listenig to their heart, their experience(come on people, do you really want to tell me you can´t do AC with a necro in the party? Who needs a training wheel now?) and their feeling of time(would we be already there if we had not kicked that necro instead of waiting for class X?).

The point is that the Dev’s can’t expect all their players are willing to conform to all upcoming changes and that people like me are resistant to some of these changes.

That’s true. It just so happens that these specific changes are very reasonable (and even welcome) by many (and probably most) players.

what is your fetish with getting people to do guild missions with you and kicking them after as a solution? just allow them to rep whatever for the rest of the week and rep your guild for the weekly mission, problem solved and the following weeks do the same thing. your anti-social stance does not need to dictate the needs/design of the larger player base. I also have a 1 man guild and do not expect the game that is designed for multiple players cooperating for common goals to redesign its formula for my benefit , instead I will have several friends(you know the other people that you meet when your walking down the street types) that are willing to help me achieve what I want 1 time a week. you know what I’m not gonna kick them after they help me and then ask them to help again next week nor will I give them bank access or upgrade options. your continued insistence to work within your self made paradigm is what is making your arguments in both threads invalid. you are setting yourself up to fail with your own arbitrary ideas of what is and isn’t correct instead of problem solving in a logical manner within the construct of the game and the structure provided to you by the designers of said game

Someone answer this “Why is this suddenly so bad when it hasn’t been a problem for 3 years?”

Because there’s new stuff coming, it’s not the same old stuff as before. You shouldn’t be able to buy everything in a guild hall on day 1 with gold, just as you shouldn’t be able to buy one of the new legendaries from the TP.

Not sure you actually read the original post, he said it would still be gated like how earning favor from missions is. I think the idea is great although not necessary. As people have pointed out you can always form a pug party to help you complete missions. I believe there is even a mechanic build in to help support this. If you guild finished a mission and you missed it you can complete the mission with another guild (I think one you are not a part of even) and still earn your personal reward. I don’t see why people would be upset with this if it was implemented, both gold and favor are currency’s and both require some ‘effort’ to obtain so it’s not like people buying favor with gold are getting things ‘free’ also gold cost per favor could be significantly high to make it not worth it unless it is your only option.

Gold is a different and not equivalent currency. They decided that buying influence with gold let you turn a system that was supposed to be about playing with a guild in to a system that was about farming mats or buying gems.

Just because two things are currencies doesn’t mean they should have methods of exchange. You can’t buy dungeon skins with gold, even though tokens and gold are both currencies for the same reason.

The intent is you do guild content to acquire guild rewards. The ability to buy influence, and the old login/event influence reward model broke that, as it was possible to acquire guild rewards without ever doing any guild content.

That is why they changed it to the new favor and guild hall upgrade systems.

Nobody said you have to accept it. You’re allowed to be upset, and you’re allowed to say whatever you want.

However, you’re suggesting a massive shift in the core philosophy of how the game is developed, and what I’m telling you is that the game is treading the same path it has always tread.

It’s not about being a yes man as much as it is about what’s best for the game as a whole. I can afford to buy a new legendary off the TP. However, I agree it’s better for the game as a whole if I can not do that. You, however, seem not to care about what is better for guild systems as much as you care about what you, personally, can get without making any concessions to what’s better for guild systems as a whole.

You want to be able to have all the toys intended for groups of players without actually having to be in a group of players. You don’t seem to care about all the fixes to the system to make it an actively better and more fun system for the people it has always been designed for

They didn’t change the system to be more group centric with less emphasis on guild size because they felt the old way was better. They did it because they felt the old system was worse. You’re free to disagree, of course, but the decision has been made and unless a disproportionate about of the player base riots about it it is unlikely to change.

Reading through your other thread about this exact same issue, it appears that is unlikely.

So, it falls to you. You can either accept the system, or you can be unhappy and rant about it.

I was sure you made an entirely different thread about this issue to avoid the toxicity in the old thread. Do you want to trade insults or actually discuss this matter? Please stop insulting me.

This is why they’re adding pvp and wvw guild missions.

Anet has always said for a very long time even pre-release of core game “play your way” and “we don’t want to force players play in a way/game mode they don’t want to”

And they sayid that with reagards to character power, not cosmetic or QoL rewards. Again, from release of the game.

I welcome you to attempt to find an arenanet statement where they stated an intention to allow players to have access to every cosmetic and utility reward in the game from playing only the content they wanted to.

In fact they said the opposite. They said that allowing legendaries to be sold was a mistake and didn’t align with their vision for them. They also never added other PvE avenues to acquire dungeon skins. They also never added a non-guild acquisition path for guild buffs, and in fact, with the initial release of the guild mission system actively designed systems to require players to play more specific content for specific reward, not less.

“Play your way” was always a philosophy about character power. Your character should not be functionally weaker than others because you don’t like certain content. They have stuck to that principle, and have never deviated from it.

Certain players have taken that phrase out of context to serve their own desires, but Anet hasn’t changed their design direction at all since the release of the game. Power is something that should be universal. Shinies and economic efficiency are not.

Buying influence was an issue because it allowed you to skip the whole point of the system. Influence was always intended to encourage guilds to do things together, and represent the guild.

The ability to buy favor didn’t level the playing field, it simply made it simpler for guilds of all sizes to fast track progression. Further, it eroded the basic foundation and benefits of the guild system in an MMO where very much of the game does very little to encourage people to establish relationships with other players. It was really easy to form personal bank guilds, or level a solo “guild” to gain buffs, completely removing any incentive to make friends and form “real” guilds.

Your suggestion with keeping the cap intact, while it does serve to level that playing field, has the same problem as much of the old influence system. It prioritized material gain, repping, and login uptime more than actually structuring and rewarding guilds for playing as guilds.

The new system takes the idea of the old system: reward guilds for playing as guilds, but removes the worst parts of it by making favor gain more about getting together occasionally for guild events (missions) rather than demanding all-rep, daily logins, and mass recruiting.

The primary concerns about the new systems come from people in “guilds” of less than five people. Anet’s stance, as per Colin, is that 5+ people is what anet considers a guild, and less than that is really not even a group.

I agree, and I think that’s fair. If you need to find PUG allies to do a dungeon, or any other group content, it’s completely fair to build the systems to also assume you’d need to find temporary allies to do guild content, as favor advancement is now based around a very similar reward structure. You do a group task, maybe two or three in the week, and you’re done. You’ve hit the cap.

Unlike the old influence system in which the total play time of everyone in the guild was more important than occasional participation in guild events, the new one actually balances large and small guilds much more effectively by not making sheer numbers logging in and repping the best way to advance.

In all of these threads I ask the same question, so I’ll ask it here as well.

If you don’t want to go do guild content, designed for groups, why do you feel you should be afforded the benefits of being in a guild?

It seems like asking for all dungeon paths to be designed for solo players. It just doesn’t make sense. Certain content is designed for groups, certain content is not. Those pieces of content have different rewards.

It’s now easier than ever to only occasionally “work as a guild” and still advance as a guild even though people have wildly different play schedules.

As the leader of a small guild where there are usually only ever 5 or 6 active and online at any given time, and more only if we explicitly schedule something big, this seems ideal. I’d imagine it also seems ideal for the leaders of large guilds, as there’s now no pressure for them to require people to rep 24/7 to keep up their buffs.

The only people it’s not ideal for, it seems, are the people who felt they should be afforded guild benefits without being willing to form the long term relationships with other players that constitute a guild.

Bank guilds were not a given. They were a loophole in the system.

You don’t need to temp invite and kick any more than you used to. For the longest time we ran public guild bounties so people could get their ascended stuff. We created a rank specifically for public event runners with no permissions. They tagged only for the bounty, then untagged and we didn’t see them until the next week. it was a win/win for everyone involved. Our guild got a much larger pool of people to do events with so we were sure to get completions, and those solo players got their special items and gold from the bounty rewards.

GW2’s multi-guild system is specifically geared so that you can be in a guild in which you only tag during events now more than ever. In stead of encouraging guilds to require 24/7 rep, farming, and whatever it encourages guilds to get together occasionally to do one or two things, and then move on to whatever level of teamplay they like.

You may want to avoid sematic arguments on what constitutes a guild, but the fact is that Anet has pretty much ended that argument and drawn a line in the sand. Guilds are groups of people that get together at least occasionally to do group specific content. I think the new system is perfectly fair in many ways the old system was not.

Yes, it leaves “solo guilds” and “duo guilds” out of the picture. You may disagree, but I don’t think that’s a problem. If you can PUG for a dungeon, or join other players for a world event, why can’t you do the same for guild events occasionally?

Why not have the ability to buy favor with gold, just like influence can be bought with gold. Big guilds don’t need to buy, they’ll have enough favor from missions. Small guilds, personal bank guilds, can buy and slowly progress their guild. Why is this suddenly so bad when it hasn’t been a problem for 3 years?

Next people are going to ask that Raids be able to be completed with 1-2 player parties because “its still a party, this game is play how you want”.

ANet has decided that 1-2 people is NOT a Guild for the purposes of favor generation. Rational people would say that of course 1-2 people is not a Guild anymore than they would call 1-2 people a group. Some serious SJW style arguments going on in this thread.

True and the only difference is that when you wan to do a dungeon you can pretty much always find other players that want to do the same content as you at that time without much effort needed. When it comes to other things that may not always be the case and brings more problems than solves. I’m on NA and thank for your offer to help though.

You are wrong, at any time in the evening, just look for people in the group finder, or ask in LA. Say:" Small guild could use some help with mission, would appreciate some help. Can guestinvite if you need commendations."
Make a “Guest” role in your guild with no permissions, so these people do get some rewards for their effort if they want to, you can remove them after the mission.
You will have a group of people to do your missions in the same time as it takes to form your party for dungeons.

… I just don’t understand why it is such a big deal to upgrade your micro “guild” to a full 5 man party. Or to just make one more friend so you’re at 3 people. Are you that terrified about making new friends? 5-10 people is still a very small guild. Very manageable, you should be able to get to know everyone really well, no one should feel bossed around or like they need to be bossy to others. Just a small tight knit group of friends.

No one is going to make you join a massive 100+ player guild…or even a 50+ player guild in order to do everything. But seriously people. If your guild can’t even do a full guild team for a dungeon, how do you expect to do guild missions?

I’ve said this before in another thread (or maybe even this one) but it bears repeating since people defending small guilds haven’t answered it.

There’s already a large guild bias in the game from launch. The Guild Hall situation in hot isn’t changing that at all. Some people are arguing that Anet allows me to make a one person guild therefore Anet supports one person guilds.

But Anet also set it up so that a single person doing a DE gets only 2 influence for that guild, where as two people doing an event together are getting 20 influence, ten times the amount that a single person can generate. This isn’t a decision made by accident. Anet is actively discouraging single player guilds. You CAN get a guild that way, but Anet isn’t support you for doing so. You’re simply exploiting what is essentially a system oversight. (not exploiting in the game exploit sense of the word but taking advantage of).

As it is right now, there are guild puzzles 2 people couldn’t finish. This isn’t new. It has been this way since puzzled launched.

It’s great to say Anet lets me have 2 people in a guild so they have to support that structure, but that was never true, any more than they have to make all dungeons solo dungeons, or make it so you can solo WvW.

The fact is Anet decides what a guild is balanced around and they’ve decided the minimum number of people is five. That’s pretty generous all things considered.

Saying I have a guild so Anet has to support it is a logical fallacy. It’s more like Anet doesn’t support it so they should not allow you to have it, and allowing you to have it is a benefit that you’re taking for granted.

We did see them in GW1, following the Forgotten, though we didnt know they were called Exalted at the time.

If you assume that Enchanted Armors were Exalted. And we only saw those in the crystal desert.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Enchanted_armor

Glint lived for thousands of years, there is no way she would tell us everything in one to three encounters. Our minds wouldn’t be able to absorb everything she knows.

Ok, but these events, turning humans into exalted and building a golden city in the middle of the maguuma, happened only 50 years before we met glint. We went to the maguuma jungle there were no forgotten there and no exalted there.

The only things humans had turned into were druids.

This whole thing seems like someone took the lore regarding mursaat cities, ascension and the forgotten and the idea of druids being protectors of the maguuma, but only understood half of it all, then tried to mush it back together, getting literally every part of it wrong.

Well i have a hypothesis and this may allow us to figure out what happened to Saul D’Alessio.

Maybe Saul found this city of Tarir and mistakened the Exalted as the Mursaat. He went back to kryta tell the story of the golden city of Tarir and the Exalted. After that returned to the Maguuma and as the lore stated he was unable to find the city again but he did find the Mursaat. However, since both the Exalted had strong magical powers and both can fly Saul may have mistaken the Mursaat to be the Exalted believing the Mursaat were another form of Exalted.

Using Saul’s misunderstanding the Mursaat pretended to be the Exalted. This may also explain why Saul may have been taken away since Saul knows the location of the Exalted which serves Glint and the Mursaat were after all fighting against Glint’s flameseeker prophecies.

If they state this in game, I could get behind it. Would actually be very clever as part of glint’s revenge. Set up a city with things that look like mursaat, have Saul find them, only to have him wind up summoning the mursaat during the charr invasion instead of the good exalted guys, setting off the events which led to us murdering all the mursaat.

But basically anything other than this completely contradicts their own lore.

With the same writing team involved in the expansion that were behind the Scarlet fiasco, I don’t expect much quality or consistency in any of the stories.

As long as there are new maps to explore (more than a few dang nab it!), mechanics of the fights are good and the new WvW map rocks – this’ll be a fine expansion.

They hired a .. um I forget what she is; lore continuity director? something like that, basically its her job to know everything about the history and lore of the gw universe and then direct the story of gw2 from there.
She wasnt around for the scarlet stuff, at least not to my knowledge.

I don’t think it makes much sense at all for anything but Mursaat to be in the Golden City within the Maguuma Jungle.

GW1 lore, (for the devs who seem to have forgotten*) – Mursaat, Golden City, Maguuma Jungle. [end of part 1] [start of part 2] The Forgotten, Crystal Desert, Exalted (enchanted armours).

GW2 lore.. seems to have combined the two. This is why it makes no sense to have.. Mursaat-esque Exalted in a Golden City in the Maguuma Jungle.

It’s like baking a cake, you use all the basic ingredients – stick it in an oven, and when you take the cake out, it’s suddenly an old photograph of a man sitting at a lake with his two wives. Unexpected and senseless.

And god kitten I do enjoy a good old photograph of a man at a lake, but I’m hungry for cake.

Stories evolve. Or do you really want them to only ever release stuff that was mentioned in the very first installation of a series?

Stories evolving is one thing, stories being retconned and lore being contradicted is another. Why would glint mention the dragons if they were asleep, it wasn’t very relevant at the time.

Here’s actual GW lore:

“On the fourth day, delirious with hunger, Saul emerged from the trees to see what he thought was a hallucination—a golden city of massive towers reaching into the heavens. The architecture was astounding, and the creatures who lived here were unlike any he had ever seen. Walking down into their city, Saul got a closer look at the denizens of this place. They were tall and thin with strange wing-like appendages that waved about in the slightest breeze. When they walked, their feet seemed not to touch the ground, and when they spoke, it was the most melodious sound he had ever heard. Surely these creatures were the stuff of divinity”

Gold city. In the maguuma. Full of mursaat.

But now there’s another golden city in the maguuma, full of things that look like mursaat but aren’t, built to house an egg (just one egg, not all 200 from gw1, and not the one that had already hatched in gw1!) and this makes sense how?

It’s like the writers for GW2 read half the GW1 wiki and said “YEAH OK, I THINK I GOT IT, FORGOTTEN IN THE MAGUUMA, FORGOTTEN ARE THE BIRD PEOPLE RIGHT?”.

Also I’m pretty certain that 250 years ago the forgotten had already been, you know, forgotten by humans, surviving only in the crystal desert. But just 50 years before that they were turning humans into mursaat lookalikes? I mean, it wasn’t even humans who were custodians of glint back then, it was dwarves, so it makes even less sense.
