Guild Mission/Favor problem for 1-2 p guilds

Several married couple have their own guild and nothing wrong with it. Look like I’ve already said some players would rather not put up with other players nonsense, guild politics etc so at least have some respect for that?

Yes, that was my point exactly. Many married couples form their own 2-person relationship guild. But the question is why? It’s certainly not for the communication aspect. It’s certainly not for guild influence as you will barely generate any with two people. Certainly not for guild missions I imagine.

So then why would two people, who are married, that live together, are likely playing in the same room, need to be in their own personal guild? The only logical reasons would be a) for bank use or b) just so they can share a guild tag that establishes them as being “together” when out in public.

As far as the first reason. That’s not a guild. Personal guilds used strictly for banking purposes are not actual guilds. It’s strictly utility for space, that happens to come with a tag. The second reason could also be argued is for utility. Guilds typically are created to form groups of people you want to play and socialize with. If your guild is strictly made up or you and your spouse (or heck just yourself), with whom you already play and socialize with, then what is the need for being in a guild beyond having a common tag and extra bank space?

Just seems a bit over-reaching to me, to expect Anet to design content around 2-man “guilds” that do not act as a guild but simply two people partied together.

I dunno, I guess agree to disagree is the only direction we can really go.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

First, I’d like to say that there are definitely ways for you to earn favor and such. As an example, I myself are in a 2 person guild with a real life friend, BUT, my main guild is the one I represent and we are a huge guild that I am very active in. This is because I am aware there are feats that cannot be obtained without a true guild. There are ways for you to earn it with your friend, but it will be very slow and painful.

With that said, this game is called “Guild” wars for a reason. You’re not going to have little skirmishes, but rather huge battles

A guild is a guild regardless of how many players are in it and because I am allowed too – to make a one person guild!

I completely disagree with you. I think Anet should remove the ability to create guilds with less than certain people to clarify their definition of a guild. Now, it just feels like you’re exercising your right to free will (Which is completely fine) but now being ignorant of the factual basis of what you’re fighting for.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/guild

As you can see here, the definition of a “Guild” is most definitely NOT anything that’s singular, ie. 1-man guild.

Saying that 1 person can be seen as a guild would be the same as me saying that I alone could be considered a family and as such, I am eligible to any and all support the government provides to large families. Who needs spouses, kids, parents and siblings, I am already a family by my lonely self! I demand to be treated like all the other families! Would get me a few weird looks if I went outside spouting that, right?

Face it, 1-2 people don’t make up a guild. Thos who are refusing that are just throwing a tantrum, trying to twist the facts only to suit their own needs which is not a nice attitude to have. Either join a bigger one, or make do with what you have. But don’t expect anet to spoonfeed you just because you don’t want to be in major communities.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Yea Op seem to know that there are so many guilds out there why cant you talk to them form alliances to do guild missions together then?

…..

there’s a novel idea! alliances. now why can’t we form alliances?

anyone?
anet?
bueller?

You can just go out there and talk to people form your alliances, pen and paper bam done.

Add them to friends list bam done with the only in game tool you need.

So what are you all small guilds waiting for, you could also do a thread on the forum were you normaly just go to complain.

Me and wife on American servers want to do guild missions this day of the week any other small guilds intrested in banding together, But no this is to hard for people we need to be able to solo/duo everything.

Then get good, people are already soloing 5 man content and guild missions are scaled down to 5 man content. ( not saying I can do it but I bite the bullet and be one of the numbers in a big and scary guild )

I find the hatred towards one to two person guilds, frankly disgusting, some people don’t want to be a part of a 50-man or 500 man guild because they feel lost in the shuffle and don’t have alot of say, especially when it comes to guild halls, I run a 2 person guild and with the current system it is absolutely viable, spending gold to buy influence has been how we built the guild so it’s clear Arena-net have designed guilds to allow for this kind of thing, and frankly I don’t want to see that change, secondly who are you to say what is and isn’t a guild? Destiny’s edge is considered a guild, and it’s only made up of about 5 characters, the lore doesn’t reference Destiny’s edge as a “party” it’s a guild, so I don’t see what’s wrong with asking for scaling down guild missions for smaller guilds. Thirdly I find the statement “Just make a guild” to be ridiculous, clearly you have never tried building a guild before because it’s not as simple as typing in a guild name and finding five random friends, odds are those 5 people you recruit will rarely if ever log into the game, and even if they do won’t even represent the guild you are trying to build, if your part of a larger guild and complaining about this, kitten off, because this doesn’t concern you, please explain to me how it takes away from your game-play expierience that a 1-2 man guild can have it’s own guild hall just like a 50-man guild? Me and OP aren’t demanding that it be as easy, obviously if your a larger guild then you can make stuff faster, all we are asking is for 1-2 man guilds to be actually viable

Yes exactly and thank you.

Have you guys missed that most of the guild missions will be the same for all guilds when hot hits you can team up with other small guilds and do them together.

http://dulfy.net/2015/09/30/gw2-guild-missions-changes-and-improvements/

Since every guild will roll the same guild missions every week, we wanted to make sure that guilds wouldn’t have to wait for other guilds to complete their missions before they could participate. Instancing the missions allows several guilds to complete their challenges and puzzles at the same time without having to worry about who’s going to receive credit. However, if you want to participate in guild challenges and puzzles with friends and other guilds, you can still ferry players into the puzzles and challenges

Maybe you should check the information we get before you start to complain that it needs to be implemented

Edit
Since you know there are so many 1-2 person guilds by experience maybe you should band together and do said guild missions with them perhaps?

Edit2
And since there will be wvw objectives were you need to hold things untill its upgraded you could do that aswell since there is surely going to be other guilds doing the same as you just coordinate in wvw mapchat.

First of all I know about that quote but the fact remains, we don’t know how this is going to work, you do make a legitimate point BUT as it stands their is still a cause for some concern as far as actually getting people to participate with you if your a smaller guild, if their isn’t a proper incentive for non-guild members to help out then it could become difficult…also in WvW as it stands only one guild can hold an objective and the game decides that based on the amount of guild members that helped cap it, I get why it’s like that and I certainly don’t want to see that go away, but I do think that other guilds that helped capture the objective should get something for helping out, not equivalent but something…I’m not denying that system is there and it absolutely will probably help nullify the situation, but we still don’t know specifics about how this will work and until then people like myself and Jedi do have some cause for concern

Yea Op seem to know that there are so many guilds out there why cant you talk to them form alliances to do guild missions together then?

Seems to me that with your guild and the Op your now 4 people so only need 1 more 1-2 person guild and then a time when all can play then your set.

Just because you made a guild does not make you privileged. A successful guild is a community of players that like gaming with each other.

Playing with yourself is something else altogether.

I never said I was privileged or come off as I am and I have had the same guild name since GW1 so it’s not like I just made my guild yesterday. Nothing wrong in asking to give 1-2 players guilds a chance since NOT everyone likes or wants to be in big guilds. Having to TEMP invite players to help me to do guild missions to get credit then kick them each week is the way to go for small guild or 1-2 player guilds>?

There are other players like myself just that they don’t speak up on the forums because of the backlash like that I’m getting from my OP.

A single person guild….really? That’s not a guild. That’s a normal player that wants guild tag, nothing more. Or a couple that want to have their own 2-person relationship guild. That’s not a guild, that’s a couple of people that want a guild tag to show they are together.

Yes really and I’m not the only one, I just want a guild tag? agree to disagree, Several married couple have their own guild and nothing wrong with it. Look like I’ve already said some players would rather not put up with other players nonsense, guild politics etc so at least have some respect for that?

I bet many of you here don’t always want to group up with other players and just go off some place in game and do your own thing?

There is nothing wrong with having a guild for a small group of friend or just a couple. But don’t except access to everything a real guild have (from small (10 players) to big (500)).

You are right. We all want to do stuff by our own. But we do single player stuff like map completion. We understand that content were created for different amount of player. I like to solo dungeon, but I accept that the game isn’t designed for that. You can play guild mission with 2 players, but accept that the game isn’t designed for that.

As much as I wish I could build up my single person’s guild into a guild hall, I’m going to have to agree with those saying that guild stuff simply isn’t meant to be for 1-2 players.

Now, what you CAN do is keep an eye out for others in the same situation, and work with them. You help them, they help you. I’m sure that someone can and (hopefully) will set up a group to organize this, so everyone gets a turn at earning some favor.

Aside from that, there’s not much you can do right now. HoT is GW2’s “We need groups!” expansion. It’s all about teamwork and raids and guilds. We can only hope that they realize they’ve swung a bit too far that way, and swing back sometime soon for things like personal housing, Not that I want them to abandon groups, they just need to stay balanced.

(And I effing TOLD THEM in the Guild Hall CDI that they needed to make a personal housing version, because of this very issue! But did they listen? Nooooo!)

With all respect, please think about what you’re asking. What is the difference between a one person guild and a single player? I am all for small guilds having a place in the game, but there has to be a point at which common sense says “this is not really a guild.”

Based on what we saw yesterday, there are ways for guilds as small as three people to earn favor. Going lower than that diminishes the value of being in a guild and negates a lot of the hard work some of us have put into building guilds of logical size (and it can be VERY hard work, even in the friendliest of guilds).

Being in a guild needs to mean something different than just playing solo, otherwise what is the point of having guilds.

Under 5 people, it’s not a guild. It’s a glorified party.

Keep in mind that they will divide guild mission into three range of difficulty so it will be easier for small guild to do guild missions. But 1-2 people now you are just trolling.

Small guild ISN’T suppose to gain favor at the same pace as bigger guild. It’ just like saying that someone playing 2 hours per months should gain gold as the same pace as a someone playing 500 hundreds hours per months.

But guild related content should not be designed around guilds that are too small. 1-2 person guilds are too small for content to be designed around. They should however design ways for those guilds to earn favor, albeit at a much slower pace as otherwise the big guilds will still have a much higher rate of acquisition.

Alright, I do agree a new race would be great however I think they need to go along with the lore. You may not like lore but it’s important for many games that introduce new races. I would also prefer fixes on Charr clipping before they add anything like a centaur to guild wars 2. Overall, I like the idea of Kodan and Tengu but Dwarf cannot due to lore and Ogre and Centaur don’t really fit the image of guild wars 2 imo.

The worry with fully customisable bios is that they can be a tool for abuse, and thus require extra support or moderator time.

So although it would be a lovely feature to have, there are some problems it could cause and will require some “running costs”.

how can it be a tool for abuse?

Plenty of ways.
People could write cruel things about other people, groups and players including anything sexist, racist, or derogatory.
People could write explicit content in their bio
Others could use it as a form of advertisement

Basically, anything abusive that can be communicated through chat could also be communicated in a bio. It’s another area to moderate, which would mean more moderators and resources.

  1. WAY to many time sinks
  2. It seems like most of the time playing the game the reward does not meet the effort
  3. MOUNTS
  4. more of a traditional dungeon trait for classes, ie tank, healer, dps
  5. Update store with new items monthly
  6. post everything there is on the store 24/7 (its money you’re losing)
  1. That’s MMO’s… people play them so much that time sinks are needed to keep them p[l]aying (in the store or buying the XPac in GW2). Remove the time sinks and instead of those complaints we see the “nothing to do” complaints. It’s a fine line to walk and developers never get it right for all players.
  2. The GW2 drop/economy mix favors the selling of crafting mats and using the gold to get stuff you want. Paradoxically, most drops are unrewarding because there are so many, many drops that supply is much greater than demand.
  3. There’s a certain degree of trade-off in using skills/traits to get speed boosts. Mounts would remove that trade-off. The skill/trait system is simple enough that there are already not as many opportunity costs as there might be in an ideal world. ANet experimented with mounts that did not provide a speed boost. I see one every once in a while, but their scarcity and apparent lack of return (if there was a lot of interest in them, ANet would have made more) leads me to believe that most of the interest in mounts includes a desire for a speed boost that’s outside one’s build. So far, Anet has resisted providing that.
  4. Dungeons other than Fractals of the Mist are a dead end for ANet, at least up to now. Hopefully you have HoT. The incoming raids look to have some gear diversity, some need for an aggro magnet and heals, and the mechanics on the one boss I’ve seen look far better than most of the dungeon encounters.
  5. We’re in kind of a light period for the store as they prepare for HoT launch in 16 days. Store updates were more frequent before HoT announcement, and I suspect will be after the initial release push is done.
  6. While I’m not a fan of limited time offers, such are designed to increase sales. Since Anet keeps using them, I can only conclude it must be working for them.

Typically it goes like this:

- You quit whatever MMO you are currently playing because you got bored with it.

- You try other MMOs to try and replace the game you became bored with, however you consistently look for games that are similar to the game you just left (and were bored with). You want to recapture that nostalgia of when you first started playing that MMO (WoW in this case).

- You find one that is very similar! Hooray! You play it for a month or two, then log in one day, maybe you’re waiting for a tank or healer to join your group so you can start and you just go “ehhh, not feeling it today..” Log off. Then you remember why you quit the first game and realize this has that same stale feeling. So you quit and search for another.

- You find GW2. It’s refreshing, you enjoy yourself. But now start to make suggestions to make the game more like the game or games you literally quit because they bored you after so many years, and for some reason think that’s what GW2 needs to make it more successful, even though GW2 is by far one of the most successful MMOs since WoW.

I disagree with pretty much every point you make, but I will admit mounts would be a great revenue generator, even though I am against mounts in general for GW2.

I don’t understand why peple DON’T want mounts. I get it that they’re not really required with the WP system, but not wanting them?
I would love to be able to just ride my mount and travel around the various beautiful maps of the world. But walking is way to slow to do it that way, and I don’t enjoy WP everywhere because I don’t even get to apreciate them fully.

4 reasons

  1. Lore of Guild Wars
For purists: most mounts clash HARD with Guild Wars Lore.
All characters in the Gw2 universe riding -animals- are evil…. so since we do not have any possibility to play evil characters in gw2 well, you do not get mounts…. Though I could see theoretical space for gliders (hey remarkable?) or Charr vehicles (in new wvw border) or Asuran Golems…. (see wvw as well) although all these examples are transforms rather then mounts.
The only 2 mounts I remember are the Junundu transform and the Siege devourer….
  2. Identity of Guild Wars
Mounts are mostly if not solely requested in posts like: I played -fill in blank here- and they had mounts, I like it and I want to make gw2 like -fill in same blank here- cause it was so epic Most mount posts have been put together in 1 big mount thread….. please read this small thread (only 1425+ posts at this time)to get some added feedback…
    https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Mounts-merged/
1 interesting thing in this thread: for every well I’d like that there’s at least 10 OH NO, Not agains….
  3. Performance of Guild Wars
Most people know more user related graphics will lower FPS… A lot, mostly due to the quality/capaity of the engine… When we fill up a map in PvE/WvW miniatures need to be hidden due to performance… Now think what wil happen if we give all these people mounts????
  4. Reasons for Implementation and balance of Guild Wars
Why should there be mounts, the waypoint system removes the need for mounts, and when waypoints are unavailable it usually has to do with game mechanics. (e.g. Silverwastes, Dungeons, WvW)
Many suggestions regarding mounts will unbalance the game: most mounts are requested with speedbuff, combat mechanics, to be collectibles and so on…. These are all not needed nor wanted in the gw2 universe, the 3 mounts available (yes I call ’m mounts) are ingame toys : the fling carpet, the Flying broom and the Tunneler are very close to mounts without any interesting buffs….it will be the closest this game will likely come to mounts, excluding combat golems, siege devourers and other transforms…
23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

you cannot design a game that will grant the same experience to 12-90 yr olds in all professions in all desired focuses of life.

Exactly, but the problem about it is that they designed and sold the game to someone…and after a while, totally changed direction.

Erm.. They announced Challenging Group Content as soon as HoT was spoken about – you were sold CGC and Raids, if you bought HoT you’re getting what they advertised. HoT was sold on the inclusion of raids (dsignated CGC initially but raids have been spoken about for a long time now), you cannot buy it and complain you were mislead somehow…

Don’t get scared, non-elite players. We tried the raid as a pug group and had lot’s of fun. It wasn’t like: BOOM, all bads die. We made progress each try.

Even though it’s brutal hard to kill the boss, it’s decently designed to feel rewarding even for pugs, when dealing with certain mechanics. You’ll die a lot, but you’ll also learn a lot.

Don’t get discouraged! Pug up and learn. Then come back with a more organised group.

If each raid wing contains one boss only plus some mini bosses, then sure, there is no need to fear. However, if a raid wing contains 5+ bosses and your progress is reset every week, then raids = time sinks, which are typical MMO traps which GW2 was advertised to avoid when it was released.

Progress is not reset.

Did you mean that if I kill the first two bosses and stop playing the game for 2 months, I can directly attempt the 3rd boss after I return to GW2?

Yes.

It’s based on a permanent gate system, like the living story. Complete boss 1 to unlock boss 2, you can now do boss 2 whenever you want.

That’s not what is said in the GW2 wiki:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Raid

“Progress within a raid will be saved for players that leave the instance. Restarting an instance will remember progress made if created before the weekly reset.”

Therefore, if you kill the first boss before the weekly reset, you have to kill him again, unless you find someone who killed the first boss after the weekly reset to start the raids.

If Anet changed their mind and use what you said to implement the weekly reset, then it would acceptable, though not ideal.

I encourage you to go watch the raid stream from twitchcon. They were quite clear about this.

That refers to progress within a wing. If you have progressed up to, but not beaten the boss in a wing and come back before the reset all previous encounters will remain completed so you don’t have to repeat them.

I knew this, and I also know that reset is done every week. Therefore, your progress made before the reset is lost when they reset it on a weekly basis.

Yes, but it’s progress within one wing, and each wing is a “single session” chunk of content if done successfully, 1-2 hours worth, which you can spread out over an entire week if you’re failing repeatedly and learning the encounters.

The raid as a whole is split up in to wings, so when you reach that “checkpoint” of killing the first boss, that progress is never reset. You will never have to kill that first boss, or any of the trash that leads up to him, ever again unless you want to do it for more/different loot.

We do have to wait to see if each raid wing can be cleared in 1 hour. If this is the case, then Anet should announce it, because this means that raids in GW2 are very, very different from raids in other MMOs, and proves that Anet is true to their manifesto.

People will adapt. Truth is in the normal maps you can get away with just pressing 1 while walking occasionally pressing F. This is not good. I agree it shouldn’t be so though that you need to remember every attack of every monster. But darn… actually thinking about what you are doing while playing, yes that should be there.

Last BWE I actually watched out and if I saw a veteran and I was playing a new class I never played it was an actual fight. In the normal maps I watch tv while running around pressing 1 and sometimes 4 to get swiftness.

Simple, don’t be that guild leader who is too tight to buy the ex-pack and cause everyone trouble. Be it you do it for attention or cause you don’t have money to waste either one you end up being “That guy”.

He/she can play the game that was paid for as long as the servers have power. Anet risk splitting the play base with HoT try not being that guy on the forums.

They’re splitting the player base on purpose. That’s the point. GW2 is a buy-to-play game, which means, occasionally, you have to buy something if you want to play it.

They’re not trying to make the game balanced between HoT owners and people without because their entire business model for HoT depends on people actually buying the game. Just as the box price of the core game, combined with a little gem store money funded three years of content, the HoT purchase price plus a bit of gem store money will fund the content that comes out after HoT, and fund the creation of the next expansion.

“Hey WoW just lost 5 million subs, so how about you add all the stuff they did to GW2?” is basically what you’ve said.

I’m glad none of the things you’ve mentioned are in GW2. There’s a reason people are running from those other MMOs…

WvW population idea

Hi,

I have an idea that might help servers with lower amount of players at night or even during the day..
What we used to do if we needed urgent help to defend our keep.. we would go to lions arch for example and shouted in map chat we needed help, players would then come. ( we can’t do this any more because of the new server system )

Since WvW is about your server, would it not be a great idea to create some sort of notification system for players in pve or roll playing in maps etc that their server needs them?

When i first started playing, i didn’t even know about pvp and wvw fo the first half a year, maybe the notification could be through a ! at the icon on the top that glows.
Once the threat is over, the ! can disappear.

What do others think about this? It might not be as relevant for T1 servers that have a queue all the time, but I think it would help the silver and bronze servers a lot.

Good job adding boss timers for raids....

Timers are essential for challenging (!) encounters which the raid ones are supposed to be. Imagine there wasn’t a timer. You could make your characters as tanky as possible and still be able to beat the bosses. You would never ever be in danger of dying to the mechanics, but it would take ages for you to kill it. It would become a challenge of patience instead one of skill. The complete raid would become a question of “who kills the boss the fastest” instead of “who kills the boss at all” – remove the timer and you remove the challenge and you will get in quintessence the same boring content you have right now. Please don’t remove the timer. Instead go ahead and take a look again at them numbers. One minute left on the timer (one of the groups in kill videos had 1 minute left) is way too much.

In order for them to “come back”, they would have to make a new version of them. .

And? It hardly comes across as complicated programming, the skin is already there. We don’t really need your wall of text.

I actually agree with every point and I know many people who see it the same way.
Sadly the GW2 community is horrible when it comes to suggestions and criticism.

The first reaction is always “Hell no, GW2 is different, if you don’t like it why don’t you play another game”.

Why do you think people suggest something? Not because they don’t like the game.
If I wouldn’t like the game, I wouldn’t even take the effort and suggest anything.

Just because GW2 is different, it doesn’t make it better. There are many things which could be changed without anyone even complaining if A-net would do so. But just by suggesting anything people already go 180° rage mode and flame you for even saying something.

Let me ask you this:

Do you really like the game to 100% without exceptions and agree on everything A-net does?

The thing is, I feel, not that the community is against changes.
These forums are full of suggestions and critique to the game. An those threads are in turn agreed or critiqued on.

The thing is, there are already mmos that have all that the OP wants, many many of them in fact. There are, however, not any mmos that plays like GW2 that I know of at least.

When a post with suggestions that will change the core gameplay of GW2 show up, should players then not respond to it?
What is happening in this thread is not flaming and rage, it’s counter-arguments to a suggestion.
If players don’t debate things, which is what a forum is for, how will developers know what the players want?

Just as OP has the right to express dissatisfaction with the game as it currently is, other players has the right to agree or disagree without being called flamers.

This is what you fail to understand. Maybe you never will understand. Making something similar or the same as something else does not equal making it better. It just means you have less of one, and more of the same.

If you enjoy guild wars 2 for what it is, then there should be no reason to try to make it similar or the same to things that are already available.

The main gripe I see here is this:

- there are 5 bazillion games on the market that offer gameplay and content A (WoW, Rift, SWTOR, etc.etc.etc)
- there is 1 game or very few that offer gameplay B (Guild Wars 2)

Why would anybody think it’s a good idea to remove gameplay B and replace it with gameplay A of which there is already an ambudance for?

People suggest things all the time. There is a dumb idea born every single second. These “ideas” and topics have received multiple replies as to why that idea does not fit this community. To keep trying means one of 2 things:

- you either don’t care about your fellow players and just want to force your vision of how the game should be down other people
- you are insane (by definition of Einstein: Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.)

or both.
