Lore and mechanics for next elite spec

BigZThyDoom.8750

Here are some of my ideas- I doubt ANet would ever consider some though, as some of them require mounts.

Warrior

Musketeer: Can attach a bayonet to their rifle. High flat damage, with some bleeds. Rage skill does plenty of bleeds- bayonet stab (or something along those lines). Increased damage to mounts if they were ever introduced.
Privateer: Can use pistol. Condi-based, a lot of bleeds. Combos well w/ sword. Pistol could also be part of Musketeer.
Cavalry: Can use spear on land, but only with a mount. Not a whole lot of DPS, but lots of CC. Combos well w/ shield.

Ele

Twister: Buff to air attunement. Quickness + Alacrity, but only to self.

Mesmer

Puppetmaster/Charade: Can temporarily take control of their opponent’s mind. Good control, but decent DPS.

Guardian:

Commandant: A lot like paragon. Split between DPS and control. Uses spear as a melee weapon, rather than using it at range. (Might have a throw-spear skill somewhere though) Lots of control/CCs.

Can’t think of anything else off the top of my head.

What skills/build do you run for open world?

Personally, it depends on what I’m doing at the time. Note: you need HoT for my more DPS-oriented build.
Gathering Build
Weps: GS/ sword-WH
Armor: doesn’t matter
Traits: Nothing really matters, other than Warrior’s Sprint. Some stuff that might be helpful are Dogged March, and Death From Above.
Ut. Skills: Frenzy, Bull’s Charge, and Balanced Stance.
El. Skill: Signet of Rage.
DPS Condi build (note: I think it’s originally Nike’s, but I’ve changed some stuff)
Weps: GS or LB/ sword-torch. I don’t use too many dps-oriented sigils, but Air, Accuracy, and Force are always really nice
Armor: Viper’s with Balth or Strength runes.
Traits:
Arms: Berserker’s Fury, Blademaster, and Furious.
Tactics: doesn’t matter but I usually use Empowered, Burning Arrows, and PS.
Berserker: Last Blaze, all of the Master ones are nice but I usually use Dead or Alive for a bit more health in solo stuff, and King of Fires.

Hi,

New to Warrior (used my boost) and enjoying trying out a bunch of different builds at the mo and working out the mechanics. Played Engi & Druid PVP main for a while but branching into Rev & Warrior recently.

Was hoping people could list their tips & tricks (simple or less well-known) for PVP (and also PVE) with Warrior that would speed up my learning of the class – apart from the main skills I don’t have a great understanding of how to play my role optimally

Thanks to anyone who contributes

If you want builds, I’m pretty sure Nike threw up a bunrzerk build a while back. Just experiment with what you have, and have fun.
P.S.: if you’re using HB, use wild blow just before HB, or a stun break just after. There’s also another cc rage skill ( it’s a HUGE kb). Using both of them can easily break a breakbar, especially the ones in fractals.

lol I didn’t think ANet banned players for going afk in a match that ANet has set up to lose. It’s like saying not only are you going to pay us your money for this lose but we are going to force you to waste your time and energy as well or we’ll just ban your account.

If this is true, then bans like these can trigger lawsuits, and ANet could lose more money then they would gain by banning players account who refuse to play a sure to lose match.

PS# I’ve akitten in plenty of matches where team mates yolo’d to far just to insta die over and over again to one enemy player.

I remember having a guardian blame our thief for the loss when the guardian kept feeding mid 1v3. The thief beat the druid 1v1 to cap far, he ganked the scrapper at mid and insta finished him with finishing blow after the invuln proc, recapped home, sides were better so most of the team agreed to stick to that, guardian keeps dying to mid, loss is somehow the thief’s fault.

Yeah. Unforunately, that seems to happen all the time, especially in ranked. Hence why I never get further than Emerald. Honestly, it seems like the only non-d**chebag-filled place in PvP is daily servers. :/

New Player Looking for a Guild

Well, if you’re looking for farming guilds, there’s always [SAND] and [TML]. They both farm PvE pretty kitten hard. [SAND] is a DT-running guild, run by Muirellthe Moon. [TML] is probably one of the best farming guilds out there, especially for SW. Talk to Thrallzar/Shadowtappz for info and/or an invite. ^^

Wow. No need to take the game so seriously! xD
Something you can do (if you don’t have it already) is to go for the HoM points in GW1. Not only do they give at least a good 4-500 AP, it’ll keep you busy, and get you rewards on GW2. And you wouldn’t be cheating on GW, either, so that’s a plus.

Future elite specs?

in PvP

Posted by: BigZThyDoom.8750

BigZThyDoom.8750

Has ANet stated how they’ll handle future elite specializations, like 4/5 xpacs down the road? If they add a new elite spec for each profession with each expansion, there’ll be like five or six elite specs per profession. For someone who just buys GW2 and goes into PvP for the first time, they’ll be really, really confused by all of the normal specializations, not to mention the half-dozen elite specs to choose from.
Are they going to implement a system like they did in WvW? If so, will they just do core Tyria (whatever that is by then), or just the expansion area(s)? And if the xpac areas, the most recent xpac, or all xpacs?

Guild Wars lore for Guild Wars 2 player

in Lore

Posted by: BigZThyDoom.8750

BigZThyDoom.8750

Hi.

I have never player GW1 and I would like to discover a whole lore, so – are there any good and legit sites/videos describing it? Also I would like to discover raids lore in HoT too – I played it and read some notes etc but a compressed guide would be much better.

I’d recommend watching WP’s lore series. I’m pretty sure Deroir also has a series on lore, but it’s more about the mysteries of the game. For that matter, I’d also recommend watching WP’s mysteries series, once you know more about the lore.

That’s definitely true. You would be best off playing GW1 and watching WP’s lore series (should have something on the Dwarves). Not sure if Deroir has something on them, but he probably does.

Krytan, Elona, Canthan, Ascalonian question

in Lore

Posted by: BigZThyDoom.8750

BigZThyDoom.8750

I am at a story quest, where I have to say if my sister and I are from Krytan, Elona, Canthan or Ascalonian descent.

I know little of these human nations (having read a little bit through wikis) and was wondering if someone more knowledgable, can give a short description about their identities.

Will my choice have any influence on the story btw?

I am probably not gonna pick Elona, because I am not gonna choose the Order of Whispers on this one (already have that order on another character) and they have an unknown way of travelling and communication with Elona. Or I might do.

Canthan are a bit of an Asian looking human nation right?
My human does not look as such (could of course still be Canthan and have lost its Asian looks through generations though).

I am considering to answer Krytan (Shining blade Krytan if that is eventually possible or if it remains unknown what type of Krytan you are).

I know that the Acalonian are that Nation who are now largely ghosts.
Also the Thackeries are from here, which could be cool because Logan Thackery is asking from which descent I am.

I read that King Alberdern was not the next in line for the thrown, yet he is descended from king Doric.
Who was the next in line for the thrown?

Anyway, could you please describe a bit of what the Krytan, Elona, Canthan and Acalonian are about (cultures, identities, environment, looks), so that I can choose the one that fits my identity the best?

Your choice will not have an effect on the PS (as far as I know; however, I have not looked into it).

Elona (GW1-wise, anyways) was based off of Northern Africa. There were three human-controlled major areas: Istan, Kourna, and Vabbi. Abaddon (the 6th human god (of Secrets and Water)) was imprisoned in the Realm of Torment, which was in the West of Elona (if I remember correctly). Palawa Joko (an undead ruler who had conquered Elona previously, and had been dethroned by Turai Ossa before GW1) was also imprisoned in Elona and currently rules it.

In Factions, Cantha was mostly based off of China and other Oriental countries. It had an Emperor, who ruled from Kaineng City, the capital. West of the main continent was the island of Shing Jea, and south of Kaineng were the Jade Sea (which was primarily inhabited by the Luxons) and the Echovald Forest (which was inhabited by the Kurzicks). The Luxons and the Kurzicks were constantly at war with each other. If you do some reading on Shiro Tagachi, you’ll find he killed one of the Emperors during the Harvest Festival, then when he was killed, his death scream caused the Jade Sea into solid jade.

For much of GW1, Kryta was under the “protection” of the White Mantle cult, who worshipped the Mursaat, an ancient race of magic-users nearly wiped out by the Titans (demonic creatures made in the Foundry of Failed Creations). The White Mantle would find the Chosen, people who had magical potential, and sacrifice them on the Bloodstone to keep the Door of Komalie shut (which kept the Titans from coming into Tyria and wiping the Mursaat race into extinction). In GW1, you let loose the Titans by killing the Lich Lord (Vizier Khilbron, the only “survivor” of Orr), then you helped the Shining Blade kick the White Mantle out of Kryta for good. The Shining Blade instated Princess Salma as Queen (of whom Queen Jennah is descended, and is descended from King Doric).

Currently, most of the population of Ascalon are ghosts, but some followed it’s crown prince, Rurik, out of Ascalon, ending up in Kryta. Rurik is banished by his father, King Adelbern for sounding the horn Stormcaller. In Prophecies, you help Prince Rurik evacuate Ascalonians through the Frost Gate; however, Rurik is killed by Dagnar Stonepate, the leader of the Stone Summit faction of dwarves (those who opposed King Jalis Ironhammer, the king of the Deldrimor dwarves). You kill Dagnar at Thunderhead Keep, and kill the re-animated version of Rurik in Hell’s Precipice. Therefore, there is no one next in line for the Ascalonian throne, and it is mostly just a dead nation, just like Orr.

Well, that’s my spiel on GW lore, have fun! ^^

Thanksgiving in Tyria

in Lore

Posted by: BigZThyDoom.8750

BigZThyDoom.8750

As much as I like the idea of big feasts laid out in Lions Arch and kid npc’s sitting around having little conversations about what they’re thankful for, I don’t know if Thanksgiving really has a place in the world of Tyria. I don’t think any race has ever successfully nicked land off anyone else without being shortly and swiftly kicked out again and what with mad king thorn existing, pumpkin pie would probably just give everyone the heebie jeebies.

That’s not quite true, since the Charr were able to conquer Ascalon back from the humans, and have been there for the last 200+ years.

It doesn’t take that much time to get presents- just do the choir ensemble or the jp (if you’re good at it). Choir Ensemble gives 18 presents for successfully playing all of the songs, and the JP gives 10 presents per run, and some runs can only take a few minutes if you don’t mess up on the jumps.

  • ANet has said that there are some recipes that still haven’t been discovered. This may be one of them.

Worth coming back?

BigZThyDoom.8750

The population is really booming, especially since GW2 became f2p (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/play-for-free-today/).
It’s not uncommon to see 75-125 people at one of the bigger world bosses (Teq, Claw of Jormag, Taidha, etc.) and probably around 50-60 players fighting the smaller WBs (Ulgoth, Shadow Behemoth, Fire Elemental, etc.).
It’s well worth coming back- Heart of Thorns added a lot of new content to the game, not to mention Living Story Seasons 1 and 2 (S1 is not playable atm, however). There are also events like Wintersday (which is going on right now), the Halloween events (Shadow of the Mad King/ Blood and Madness), etc.
HoT added a ton of new things: guild halls, gliding, adventures, new events, and a new Elder Dragon to kill (the Jungle Dragon, Mordremoth).

Utility: Frenzy (for might and, more importantly quickness), FGJ (for fury and might), and signet of might (extra power)
Elite: sig of fury (for fury + might- speed for mobility)

Tactics:
doesn’t really matter except Burning Arrows- I usually go w/ Empowered (bottom) + PS (bottom)
Arms:
Opportunist (bottom), Deep Strike (middle), Furious (middle)

Last Blaze (middle), doesn’t really matter- I use Dead or Alive for extra survivability (bottom), King of Fires (middle)

Probably the best (if you want AoE+condi, as well as pure DPS) would be condi-speced fire-attuned staff ele (dagger-dagger/focus isn’t bad either, but it’s a lot glassier)
The dagger-dagger/focus build is HORRIBLE for pvp- trust me, I’ve tried it. Way too glassy. It might not be bad for wvw though, if you stayed in a big zerg.
here’s a video of the dagger-dagger/focus:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH-aB4mwAOk

For AoE, DPS, tankiness, and some condi, staff necro is pretty good
For more tankiness, I’d recommend warrior or guardian, but they don’t really get much for conditions or aoe (and warr tends to fall into the “get zerker! use GS!” camp.)

Here’s a tip for what Zalladi said- see if you can find a guild that farms SW regularly. Even better— find a guild that is SW-only. If the guild is large enough, there should constantly be a chest farm going on. Each bag will give you bloodstone/empyreal and the chests themselves will give you TONS of dragonite/empyreal, especially dragonite. Chests will also sometimes drop obsidian shards, which are needed for the ingots. The champ bags will also occasionally drop spirit shards.

As for farming the shovels needed to find the chests, run around SW and tag as many events as possible, especially tier 1 defense events. I’ve found those have a far higher chance for shovels.

Look on LFG for something like “bring shovels” or “choo choo”, as well as “chest train/farm” or “cf”. Assuming you got a bunch of shovels from event farming, you can get a lot of champ bags. If enough people decide to follow you, you can start a chest train and let them do the digging.

I play a LOT of SW, so my inventory is almost always full of blues/greens, with the occasional rare or exo.
Here’s what I do:
(If I’m lazy)- salvage all blue/green light armor, vendor all the other blues and greens, and sell the rares/exos on the TP.
(If I’m not lazy)- salvage all blue/green light armor, sell what other blues/greens I can on TP, then vendor the rest. Exos I always sell on TP, unless I want the skin. Then I’ll check the pricing on the rares. If they’re worth 37s+, I list them. If they’re the more common weps/armor that are only worth 33s ish, I salvage them for ectos.
Copper fed salvagomatic for light armor and mystic/rare for rares. If I have one, I use Black Lion Salvage for exos.
