Ghost thief exploit, working as intended?

So I equipped my long neglected thief today as ran about wvw as a trapper. It was quite fun! But not the camping lone players kind, though I did do that. I found disrupting back lines of zergs following the friendly zerg around was far more fun and effective.

I learned to trapper so I could counter it myself in future. My take home message is this. When trapped, I cleanse or heal, stun break if need be and jump on the small red circle that will appear. This is where the thief heartseeks to get stealth, if they hit you they come out, if they don’t they just missed quite a few seconds of stealth. If it was me, I would flee, because out of stealth, they are rather weak!

Really the most effective thing I found was weather the storm, stand in their circle or simply run away. If someone ran, I couldn’t keep my stealth up as well and after a steal or shadowstep I was really quite ineffective!

I have a question. What are you guys using open PVE now? I did use the might stacking FT, but without the number 2 skill burst its a bit slower.

I used to love condi engie back when our nades went further, in fact I mained that PVE and WVW. Should I take the plunge and go full viper open PVE? How does this work? Rotate the burns each mob like the raid rotation?

Thanks in advance

we really need a queue system to join maps.

I do like these builds, but lack of self swiftness is a deal breaker for me everytime.

There’s always mecha legs which is 25% and if that’s too slow for you, you can also blast lightning fields.

If your group can’t fill in the rest for you, then find a better group. :p

Nothing wrong with this either: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASlUUh2tY1VwkLQ7FLTG14HUBxH9fX37t4zUABAA-TViFABHqiDAXAgEeAAqv/gRK3WSJRVKBPTHAhqHUO4A4t3CA/93e/t3et3evNgb7VGgitA-w

But I prefer inventions for the defense against condis

Hey thanks! I was using that HGH build and had some joy with it before I took a HoT break. Will probably use that again with mecha. Its not so much the groups fault, on Piken they move quick, and well, I am easily distracted and sometimes I miss the group moving. Without swiftness then, I find I drop back.

Honestly we shouldnt have to rely on group swiftness to use decent builds, scrapper has no access outside of lightning fields. Putting your best skills on CD to get swiftness isnt my favourite idea. I wish one of the scrapper bots gave swiftness.

Yes, and so I have taken a break for the last 2 months.

Before when PVE bored me, I would go to WvW, but that is rather dead these days. The new maps are too complex, not that I dislike a challenge, but sometimes (I said this in the casual thread) you just want to kick back and play. With SW you could do that, or you could go hard and try and make every breach, jump in the fight more etc….

I just feel there is nothing for me in the game anymore. If I could grind legendary armour in wvw (but the old maps, or new ones split up in to separate maps to each team) Or through a massive grind in open PVE events, I may be around. But as it stands, having more fun taking up FPS again.

For me its The last city of men. When I was sick and really down on myself, I came back to gw2 and had a great time leveling another char and getting a legendary. When I wasn’t doing any of that, I would hang around magisters terrace in DR and just soak up all the interaction.

Whenever I hear that particular song, a wave of calm and comfort wash over me, I honestly can’t quite explain how amazing it feels.

I can’t imagine another MMO I’d be willing to play, but I’m very dissatisfied with that expansion. Thanks God for Netflix. Soooo many good shows to watch. Criminal Minds, NCIS, Supernaturals, The X-Files. The list goes on.

In the same boat as this. See the HoT section thread about GW2 no longer being casual friendly. Anyway I won’t go on about that but OP is right. Best thing to do when something irritates you about the game or you simply burn out is to just stop. Go play another game. Been playing Witcher 3 and Rocket league lately.

Yet here I am still check the forums, waiting for things to be a bit more sunny for how I like to play the game, then no doubt I will be back.

Wow this thread took off. Just want to echo something I said earlier. The analogy about amusement parks is exactly how I feel 100%. I almost applauded it out loud.

I am casual. I earlier in this thread described casual not only as lack of time but wanting less stress. So with this in mind, I want rewards, but I don’t want the toxicity of dungeons/fractals, I quite like PvP but it stresses me out. WvW interests me more, but I mostly like to follow a train, do events (silverwastes for example) but feel free to hop off when I feel like or when I feel I have done enough.

I have a legendary, sure maybe it took me longer to grind out but I don’t mind because I am casual, I expect that in an MMO.

When HoT came out and I first experienced the first map, I was in love, random events, a meta. But soon I realised the rewards weren’t that great compared to time spent, and time spent was a lot. If I managed to not crash in DS then it was fun, but again, all that time spent, you are locked in until the end or you get nothing, this is rather stressful.

Then came raids, legendary armour. When ascended came out, it was the same thing. It was hidden behind gates so we could be bottlenecked into playing to see new content, as opposed to how we want.

Honestly, ascended armour should be outright on the TP. Legendary also should be purchasable with gold but at a massive rate. 2k per piece even. But far cheaper to get in raids. This evens out the playing field so players can shortcut in new and more challenging content. But those of us who would rather take our time with less stress can get there too in time.

1. Yes totally. I said in another thread, the thing I loved about GW2 was that I could play low stress, hop on an EOTM train and xp a new character, world boss farm, chest farm SW or wvw (defending or scouting is quite stress free). Most of those things have no real progession in terms of the xpac. I am quite worried about trying raids tbh, I am guessing there would be salt at wipes. Salt stresses me.

2. Literally my biggest hate with this game, is getting a DC (most of the time not your fault) then coming back, even in an anti DC party to not being able to get back in your instance. I am sure adding a 5 minute cooldown on your slot could be implemented, we have screamed for it for years.

3. I have only ever a few times since beta noticed someone actively avoid ressing someone, since HoT I have seen it over and over again. Some how the since of doing things together seems to be lost, maybe because map metas promote selfishness. On the flip side, go to a world boss in tyria and read chat, watch the resses.

4. Not tried raids, fell out of love with dungeons because of wipe salt. Too scared to find a guild to raid in because of this. Could of been the reason to come back too.

5. My saving grace could of also been WvW, imagine when I went in a map during prime time, on a decent pop server, to not only not being active, but those that were there, were simply capping empty structures, took me 15 mins to get to them too. Basically a boring EOTM.

6. Fully agree. ALL classes should have access to these roles if we are going to have roles.

As much as there are some conflicting views, we are agreeing on points, especially that stat changing legendary armour being locked behind raids is a terrible idea. Though, an exclusive to raids skinned version is not.

With 10000 views and 350 replies, I really hope Anet take time to read through this thread. The lack of interaction is getting awful.

You would think with one of PC gamers writers picking HoT as his pick of the year, then 99% of the comments slating it, we would get some response.

So apart from a few guys who would defend the game even if they were the only ones left playing it.

Shall we turn this thread around a little and suggest ways things can improve?

Legendary armour available in other ways? Maybe replace masteries with Legendary trees? Possible to do them through multiple methods including dailies?
Bring back old wvw maps, have new one as a second EB?
Reduce grind time on masteries?

I agree casual can mean limited play time, but I would add that it also means low stress or playing as you like.

By this, with myself as an example, I like to just relax when I play. Dungeons and pvp stress me, so I prefer to follow a train, follow world boss timers, wvw or explore/level up. If I wanted to play something more intense, honestly I would play an FPS or go back to commanding in Planetside 2.

My point a few posts up, was that doing most of these, you could reach your goal at your own pace. Be it a new gear set with runes, a new skin, a legendary etc. With ascended gear its time gated and the new current game style, you must do events and other rewards are locked behind game styles, raids especially.

I bought HoT, and honestly, I spent months looking forward to it, the first few days no regrets, but once the dust settled I lost my way. I wondered for weeks why I just didnt want to play any more, even though I love the gameplay and this thread has given me that answer. I can’t play as I want, as there is no reward in that.

Before I could log in even if I only had an hour, and lets say I was farming torward a legendary. I could get that through gold pretty much, so you can do whatever you like to get to your goal, farm SW, world bosses, dungeons (found them too toxic community wise), wvw or eotm.

With raids and the current open world pve, this is simply not possible. The worst part of the games community has monopoly on the new progression, I won’t even attempt raids for this very reason. Insults and kicking of someone because they made a mistake, insecure plebs blaming others just isn’t my thing. Why the stories and events have worked, is because they were open, anyone and everyone joined, and the more the merrier. The toxic tower worked because people helped as opposed to it becoming elitist and non-inclusive to less skilled or casual players.

There is no log in and progress any more. There is no option to play as you like, and to the devs, I certainly do not need to get better at your game, I more than meet the skill requirements.

Raids should of worked through a match making system, balancing classes and stat choices to the content, and the event should of looked something like the opening events when you start a new character. Instead, we get elite mobs with some half decent mechanics that are just dps races and damage avoidance. Its just dungeon bosses basically.

Then there is the issue with stats. I discovered in open pve a nice semi tank semi damage spec that allows me to survive a lot during events but be able to burst mobs down quite quick(though damage is not sustainable), this isn’t viable in raids. All the gear I spent months farming, and the legendary, is not viable because you are not picked for raids unless meta. I don’t totally blame others for that, as they just want to progress themselves.

Ascended gear was the start of the decay sadly, time gated gear is utterly the worst idea ever brought in to this game. Even the method to change stats if far too expensive to do regular enough that you can play freely. It made casual take a back seat, it made new players fall behind, and now that is magnified even more so.

The idea of raids was a good one, most of us want it, but it has been executed very very badly. If I wanted to play with elitists farming half easy bosses for gear, I would of subbed back to WoW. Go back to why GW2 was better, for the option to progress however you want, and remove the time gate from ascended or make it cheaper/free to change stats.

Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?

Yes and no. If I was offered a refund I would say no. I LOVE gw2, honestly it has a real place in my heart and will do for years. For all the days of joy in the past it has brought me and I am sure still will, I am happy they have my money.

That however does not mean to say I am happy with the content. The maps are too complex, far too difficult to navigate and there are far too little waypoints. I am aware of the right to an opinion, but if you disagree with this, I have no idea why you enjoyed the game previously.

The original maps, man, playing this game in BETA I was in love. They simply flowed so well from heart to heart, from POI to vista, the challenges balanced to the player well and it was enjoyable. The new maps don’t feel as welcoming, they feel more like they don’t want you there, unlike the originals that begged you to adventure and dig deep in to them. Maybe just give the ability to travel the maps rather than unlock them through mastery.

I do like the extra challenge, but its everywhere, and too hard to navigate to if you want to get to a com, you have to wade through a sea of difficult mobs, lucky for me I used soldiers gear, would hate to do it on zerker.

Community seems to have changed, maybe its just the blind race for new content, but even in story events, say like the toxic tower, players were always helping each other out. Well at least more so than now. Simple requests like “how do I do this” mostly go unanswered. Due to the scale and amount of stuff going on, players dont seem to interact as much. And reviving downed players is now apparently a lost art, almost every time I am at an event, I feel like the only player doing this and I rarely get picked up myself.

If you take SW for example, as much as I dislike the amount of stuff going on with mobs (red circles following you around for ages)(OP spike damages)(way too much CC) and a lack of WP, it was so well laid out if you ask for help at say amber, people got there, now you ask for help at a hero point, if you are lucky you get a couple of players, if they can even get there!

This makes me dread raids. The one part of the game I have avoided unless no longer possible is Fractals and dungeons. Almost entirely because that community is so toxic, I think these same players will be the ones you cosy up to at raids, ever ready to kick you for the slightest mistake.

WvW, well just what others have said.

I can honestly see the new maps becoming ghost maps.

So all in all I regret the pre purchase, but I dont regret the purchase as I love the game, and will remain active most likely, that is until Tuesday.

How to dps Scrapper

in Engineer

Posted by: Bish.8627

Bish.8627

So I posted a thread recently where I said I would like to get away from kits, well its not possible unless you go static discharge which doesnt sustain much and even its burst in open world PVE isn’t that great, in the new maps at least.

So I played around a little. My main concerns were decent damage, swiftness and including some of the new mechanics. I did initially want a stun break, but reactive lenses covers that for me (though you can switch the one kit to include EG)

The idea with this build is popping lightning fields and dropping shredder gyro in to it, using #2 and #3 hammers skills, it destroys just about anything, veterans will be daze/stun chained. Not only that, but if you couple it with nade kit you can sustain dps for some time and not just be burst. You will also stack crazy vuln.

You can also use toolkit instead which I tend to do most of the time going from event to event for the utility.

I am currently torn between expert exam and mass momentum as I don’t feel the might gain is that great from MM but EE on champs is irrelevant with others around.

Also ignore the sigils they are from my SD build and I am trying to decide if Night and force will be better.

EDIT: Also I can never see me taking out Stealth gyro, the amount of stealth revives, sneaks past packs and life saves that thing has given me this weekend! Boss goes in to a new phase? VANISH!

EDITEDIT: You can also go Knights with runes for survivability, you will still kill things nearly as fast as zerk (ofc not quite), with the reflects and blocks you can take quite a bit of punishment

My short take on scrapper (PVE open world)

in Engineer

Posted by: Bish.8627

Bish.8627

Nice and all, but firearms/exp/scrap is far better than tools, they all mix with the hammer far better, but that then means no swiftness, its kind of silly our main swiftness methods are in traits not apart from elixer. Also might stacking isn’t really a concern for me apart from dungeons, its too long a process just for events, you will miss half the mobs before you are done. And I am tired of clunky kit switches and blasts just to get to might.

EG is not that great, the stunbreak is nice, and acid bomb/#5, but honestly I am trying to find a build that avoids clunky kits, slick shoes apart from its nice stunbreak has no use in open PVE and elixer s is a waste of a slot especially with stealth gyro.

What I am using now plays so smooth and does decent damage, I would dare say could sustain decent damage too (although just a rough guess from lab), but those 2 things I feel lacking really do mean we are perma stuck with the same traits and/or kits.

Basically, scrapper doesn’t have swiftness and its only stunbreak is on a useless skill.

Explosives really doesn’t do much for hammer except for a some extra damage, but if you run Tools with the right skills, you’ll get the extra damage along with perma-swiftness and access to an additional stunbreak..

However, your real argument here is against kit swapping, which isn’t really a Scrapper issue. Just because Scrapper brings non-kit tools to the table doesn’t mean that it needs to do everything without kits.

That being said, if you’re still totally focused on a non-kit build for open PvE, go with something like this:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFAClUUhaqYJXw8KWINK6o+q7awY72+nxAo5eOA-TBROwAjU+BY/Bwq/ITJIA-e

You can camp hammer and use it with Static Discharge for extra dps. Normal mobs can be bursted with Throw Wrench, Surprise Shot, and the fancy hammer skill of your choice.

Elixir U is your stunbreak, but if you don’t a stunbreak, then you can use it for extra dps. The reflect toolbelt skill is also useful for ranged enemies.

When you need swiftness out of combat, swap to tool kit. This is particularly good for when running through mobs and getting put in combat since you get a few seconds of super speed as well.

Thanks for the advice, at launch I went a static discharge build and it was super nice. Might see about mixing that with something closer to what I have been using, which I realise now I have yet to show.

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFAClUUhaqYJXw8KWINK6o+q7awY72+nxAo5eOA-TBROwAjU+BY/Bwq/ITJIA-e

Basically using combo fields is pretty fun and things die quick! maybe I will play about, use Elixer u instead of mines.

Thanks again

My short take on scrapper (PVE open world)

in Engineer

Posted by: Bish.8627

Bish.8627

Run alchemy/firearms/scrapper with grenades/elixir b/egun.

Swap egun out for FT depending on what you’re doing. Bulwark anywhere but over nades if it’s needed.

I am trying my best to get away from nades and EG, been using it for years, though I will likely go back eventually.

I honestly haven’t had that issue with stunbreaks, but that’s because I’ve found that juggernaut with mass momentum is pretty awesome for open world. Here’s what I’m running:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASnUUB9dh1aBupC0ehl7iie1j9ZHcBjwAYcLaiPD-TxRBABXp8jm9HwTHwCXAAAeAAUq+jZKBBA-e

Since you’re limited in personal might stacking and don’t really get in danger of wasted might due to the cap, such as in group play, this ends up giving pretty substantial damage, despite being based on FT, and the perma-stability negates the need for a stunbreak.

However, if you don’t like Juggernaut, there are still 3 great options for a stunbreak: Elixir Gun, Slick Shoes, and Reactive Lenses (Tools trait).

Even if you run a pure gyro build and don’t like the Blast Gyro, you can use Sneak Gyro to stealth you when you get CCed.

As for Swiftness, I also haven’t found this as a problem, particularly since Streamlined Kits is such an easy choice for just about any engi build. Even if you are obstinately opposed to the Tools trait line for some reason, you can easily use blasts with your lightning fields for swiftness. There are so many ways to blast fields, even without having to stop that this shouldn’t be an issue.

As for armor, I’m still finding zerker to be fine for open world, but knights/valk would be fine if you want more sustain. If you run a kit swap build, you can go heavier on the valk side and just run a sigil of intelligence.

Overall, just remember that just because you have new shiny Scrapper stuff doesn’t mean you can only run builds that use only Scrapper stuff.

My short take on scrapper (PVE open world)

in Engineer

Posted by: Bish.8627

Bish.8627

So going to keep this as short as possible, I love scrapper, very very much so. The hammer is great, shredder gryo in a combo field and its toolbelt is great, bulwark is a live saver and any mob that ranges gets a taste of its own medicine with its toolbelt. Using throw mines toolbelt with hammer is lovely, with healing turret you can blast twice.

Anyway, I do feel however something is missing, well a few things.

Firstly a stunbreak that isn’t on a near useless gyro, knocking back is really irritating and with melee and combo fields is even worse! The stun break needs to be on either the healing gyro or bulwark, and if an offensive then scrapper. Even Purge would make more sense. This needs to happen now in a hotfix as opposed to months down the line, it totally ruins scrapper in PVE, unless of course we have to use other skills or EG AGAIN……

Secondly, and just as important to me, if you really want to spec in to scrapper and still have damage for open world, you lack swiftness, you can only really get it on crit and it doesn’t last long. Blasting turret and mine on lightning gives 16 seconds, this is basically useless compared to other swiftness skills (or swift kits). My suggestion is change shocking speed to give swiftness when a gyro is active. Again, something that totally ruins scrapper fixed sooner would be nice

Can I also just ask some advice, has anyone tried knights armour with valk accessories? Would this be viable for more difficult encounters?

Thank you anet, I do love scrapper.

What a coincidence I noticed the same thing! Suddenly the expansion has turned the majority in to terrible players with no skill or sense. While trying to solo these hero points that spawn champs, I was ignored by several players who not only ran past, but grouped and tried the champ while I clearly asked for help. This happened a few times to me, people literally walking over my body….

Then, I went to teq and I noticed an odd number of players ignoring fingers and downed players.

Maybe Anet needs to add a report idiot button and when it reaches ‘x’ amount force a tutorial on ressing.

Sadly turrets have little viable use in PVE open or dungeon, they have way too large cooldowns and do little damage, although apparently there is a fix coming soon for the damage they take.

However. depending on the level you play at, you could run only one kit in a static discharge build. Its DPS isn’t sustained, but it has wicked burst.

http://wolfineer.com/static-discharge-burster/

Something along those lines, use Scholar runes. Higher in fractals it may not be viable, but basic dungeons and especially open world its real fun, may also work well with the incoming scrapper.

Other than that, and again especially for open world, play how you want

Beta Weekend Scrapper Feedback Thread

Hammer is great but #3 needs some tweaking. The auto attacks need to be a tad quicker and possibly have confusion added to the last swing or on #5. OR a damage boost, but just small making it near bomb (as none of the skills hit as hard as say jump shot)

Gyros, well. The healing gyro needs 5-10 seconds off its CD as for now its toolbelt is the only reason to take it. Otherwise the turret is still our best option even with the decent toolbelt skill, cleanse gyro is not going to take a spot, so maybe roll it in to heal gyro and keep the cooldown? Spinning gyro is ok, but its CD is again way too high for so little, the toolbelt is nice, but needs to daze and all the pulses not just the first.

Now for for bulwark gyro, its toolbelt needs to be a stunbreak, this really needs to happen. You basically cannot move away from kits or elixers because we have only a few stunbreaks, the gyros do not offer that sort of utility. With a stunbreak it could become a much stronger option.

Sneak gyro would be great if it stacked stealth quicker/kept up

My only other concern is that all of our swiftness options are in more defensive specs, apart from tools maybe, but not much there works with scrapper if you want to still have access to increased move speed, so open PVE builds become a little held back as you would have to spec to get speed over say HGH

Please give the f2p accounts map chat, they need to be able to ask for help and advice. The populations are great there, but its so quiet, its kind of killing the atmosphere and may end up with a lot of these guys not buying in to the game.

Forget goldsellers, a simple report spam function works fine. The new guys need to feel what the community is like, which apart from a few whiners like here is amazing.

Today's dailies: You do fractals YES or YES.

I will agree with OP, I don’t like fractals, they belong in their own set of dailies like wvw or pvp. I personally skip fractal days.

Ranger or Thief or Engineer?

I would like to add, I have played all 3, but especially Engie as a main. Engie you need to read up on rotations, when you see what you can accomplish when you aren’t purely using flamethrower, it will surprise you. Bombs and Grenades are pretty good, and acid bomb on elixer gun is amazing.

All the classes need time to feel them out, but Engie even more so as its one of the more complex classes.

I would vote Engie. Then, in some months, do another, nothing is stopping you having all, you can still main one and mess around on the others.

In my opinion, the event daily is great. Nice to see trains on random maps doing events you may never normally do, even in map completion. Vista should be spread across maps, like view one on X, Y and Z map and gathering is ok. What I fully and hugely disagree with is fractals. I dislike them, so when 2 of the possible choices are fractals then I have to go do wvw just to get the AP. Why not dungeons and fractals?

So I do agree with those that are saying we should be able to chose how we complete, open world, dungeon/fractal, wvw or pvp. Even a crafting/mystic forge section would be nice instead of throwing it all in to pve.

Fractal reliance again

So recently I made Mawdrey, I was unhappy that I had to do fractals as part of this, I love dungeons, but I really dislike fractals, especially because they are so forced down our throats in regards to having to do them for so much other content. And also because they are, in my opinion, and I know that of many many others just not fun.

So doing the wintersday line, missed it last year, get to the point where I get clues, and I find out, one of the needed items is in a particular fractal. Firstly, it being a particular fractal is bad design, meaning players will have to grind out fractals until they get it, (most will then leave). Now this also stinks, kitten little players actively use fractals, they just aren’t fun to a lot of us. So the idea, is to force us to do them, to get open world achievements? Hey next year, throw in “YOU MUST TAKE SM IN WVW TO UNLOCK WINTERSDAYS”

You must take away fractal reliance for so much content. Such a small percent actually like them for them to be so important. Remove it from the wintersday line, remove the mist stones from Mawdrey or make them available through other means.

I thought making us grind tedious mini games was bad enough.

Easiest/hardest professions to level?

I have two 80’s and a bunch of mid level chars.

Warrior and Engie are 80 the I have tried every other class to a point.

Engineer is hard, unless you use kits, I see so many new Engies running around with pistols or rifles hell even flamethrower, I often whisper them and tell them to try bombs and nades as it is a lot higher in damage. But even with kits (nades are not easy to level with) you are still switching skills a lot to maintain good burst.

Warrior was super easy, greatsword/axe-mace/longbow/ cruise through mobs.

Same for guardian for me. Necro seemed the easiest over all.

The one I will never 80 is mesmer.

Hobo Sacks: A Terrible Fashion Statement

I think the “hobo sacks” are an aesthetic that fit Engineers well if you dress your engineer with steam-punk armor. I never thought about it being bad.

Yeah when my Sylvari had her magitech armor on, I never complained about the sacks, though I never liked them. Then over the weekend I changed her to tier 3 cultural and it just looks terrible.

Even just a choice in sack colour would make a world of difference

Whats wrong with this sylvari?

I also used to main a warrior. I left the game for a while, came back, and just wanted to play something else, I planned as an alt. Few months in to engineer and it was getting my ascended items.

The recurring theme with them is versatility. I can run zerker, spam nades in dungeons pve, then slap on cleric and bomb heal a zerg. Our builds may not top any scales all over, but kitten its fun, and with some practice pretty kitten effective.

How many of you have 100% map completion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I have 4 characters
2 of which are 80 Engie and Warrior
Both have 100% map completion, finished it with engie last week.

I said some months after release, after doing 100% on my warrior I would never do it again. I did, but again, never again.

Until my next 80…..

I know there will be some ready to say l2p, and enter on their forum defender horses ready to defend the game to the death, but I too love this game and this is just my honest opinion on what I have played all this time. I will just say, I did not find the content hard, maybe too easy, but read on.

I played beta, loved the game from then and still now. Leveled PVE, then got in to WvW, mixed both, really had a good time. That was until the WVW guild I was part of fell apart and so I stopped playing. I came back some time later as I was sick irl and had time to burn, I then leveled a second character, an engineer and loved it more than my warrior, so I was gripped on the game again. But WvW soon grew stale and I left again.

So recently, I wanted to feel the game again, as it has amazing atmosphere and a great soundtrack. I decided megaservers greatly improved my experience, and so, I wanted to do world completion again with my engineer. Up until the new areas and story, I had only a few issues.

Firstly, mobs with CC everywhere. I get you are meant to dodge, but I would rather dodge high damage skills than a CC, as if you get caught, you are stunned for 3-4 seconds, that time you aren’t playing the game, not fun. So many mobs have cripples, stuns, knock downs, backs and pull backs. Its cheap and a real drain on the experience. For example, I hate seeing dredge, destroyers, sometimes ogres AND especially purifiers in risen areas, although they have obvious moves, if you didn’t notice it and say, you are on your way to an event that already started…..You know the rest.

Secondly, this only seems to be a few creatures, mostly rock dogs, some mobs spike damage is far too high, especially in the new patch, the dogs there having a pounce on what seems a 2-3 second cool down, you can maybe get 3 dodges, and if its not dead and you aren’t in balanced gear, you are stuffed. I was OK on engie as I have blinds etc, but I really feel for other professions, or less wised up players.

Once I had completed all tasks and just had the cities (vistas, pois and waypoints) I was genuinely glad and relieved I wouldn’t have to come up against so much CC. That was until I stepped in to this new area.

Why have maps gone from open world, having a real atmosphere where events pop up and suddenly a handful of players who have never met band together to defend a point, to a zergfest like wvw has become? The rewards there aren’t even that great, its easier to make gold in other ways. I will say the map design is nice and the layout with minimal waypoints genius. But the mobs are a bit tedious. Destroyers with a cripple, dogs with that pounce again, oh, and get caught by more than one pounce, hope someone will revive.

Then, more specific to engineer, the mobs in this area move VERY fast. In the story too. For damage engineer is kind of stuck in a few builds. Please try throwing grenades at the first boss in this weeks story, or dogs bouncing all around your screen…. Not to mention retaliation. Throwing 3 nades, means 3 hits of ret, using flamethrower, same concept, we dont have viable access to a boon strip without taking away from our builds, that is if you can even remove it. And I know engies aren’t the only victim here. Do not give retaliation to mobs, I get it as a phase on some bosses, but not here.

And the story, wow…. The Vines were getting annoying as it was, attacking way too far away, having way too much health, now they have a short cool down pull, to stun….If the short cooldown wasn’t bad enough, there are tons of them in a boss encounter. What you don’t see, with all the CC and way too high spike damage, is that it doesn’t add to the challenge, it takes away from the fun. Look to other titles in this genre, they do not add CC to many mobs.

Please in future, consider less CC and reduce damage from dog pounces as an example. As much as players hate RNG, have a chance at better rewards in these maps, on ALL events, so doing them has a purpose, and players will do them all and not just hang about one area like the latest. I did not struggle to complete content, in fact it was very easy, but it was more of a chore getting through than an enjoyable experience like fighting Zhaitan.

I will also add at the end here. Take away the reliance on fractals. In new content, in getting ascended etc. Make it a side way to do these things, as a lot of players enjoy it make ascended armour available by other means, as a lot of players don’t enjoy fractals.

Just want to say thanks for this build, its a truly well balanced build, decent damage output while being able to take a few smacks. Actually works well in pve too.
