actually, an argument could be made for ranger and revenant very easily, if not thief. herald offered 0 condi oriented traits, and only one skill which inflicted damaging condis, and heralds shield is comparable to chronomancer shield, a power oriented weapon more than condi even if it is defensive. herald even offers bonuses to power damage, 2% damage per boon, and nothing at all condi related. Renegade on the other hand is definatly condi oriented. condi weapons and condi traits.
An argument could be made for ranger as well, the only trait which druid offered which was directly benefitial towards condi builds that i remember off the top of my head is the ancient seeds, as the roots offer bleed stacks, but thats a mixed trait in a lot of ways, none of the other druid traits that i recall (dont play ranger much so i may be wrong) offered a nything to condi builds, and if they were more support than power based, they still were definatly not condi oriented. staff was a definatly a power weapon as well and celestial avatar didnt offer much in the way of condi skills. druid utilities i dont know very well, but im asuming that most of them do not inflict many damaging conditions. Meanwhile, soulbeast’s weapon is a condi weapon, and the spec could be directed towards condi builds, i never actually made one myself to test it though.
Tempest can make the same argument as well, none of its traits seemed directed towards a condi build specifically, either being neutral, power based, or support based. Its weapon offered primarily power based attacks and from what i know of overloads (which is not much, i dont play ele at all, its one of the few classes i dont know very much anything about,) all the overloads but fire seemed directed towards power builds, or offering support. Even with fire overload an arguement could be made that its power based.
Weaver on the otherhand seems to have a lot of condi oriented weapon skills and some condi oriented traits, i dont know for certain though as i never played weaver this beta weekend, just read some stuff others have said.
Daredevil and scrapper both make a strong counterpoint however. Daredevil offered a power oriented weapon and only one condi oriented trait, which is the conditions on dodge, which was one of three dodging options, so definatly being a more power oriented spec, and deadeye is certaintly condi as well.
The same thing can be said for scrapper, scrapper was definatly a power oriented spec, with a power burst weapon and no condi trait interactions, yet from what ive heard holosmith is a power burst spec, so thief and scrapper fall outside of my argument.
regardless, for most of the main classes which people are kittening about being condi this expansion, their previous specs were directed towards power builds.

it should be noted, that when im saying for traits being directed at power or condi, im counting traits being directed at condi only if they directly effect conditions, either inflicting conditions or directly benefiting them in some way, either increasing their duration or giving extra ways to apply them.

which brings up another point actually, 3 weeks of reaching ticket cap for one item for getting the legendary armor upgrade seems ridiculous to me, especially because it takes an extra week to get the tickets for the armor piece itself that is needed for the upgrade. Not a full week of tickets for any piece other than chestpiece, but still a minimum of 4 weeks per armor set, that’s 24 weeks for the whole set, far longer than it would take a pver to get legendary armor through raids, and our armor is almost as expensive to get as theirs is, yet a wvwer makes far less gold in a week than a pver or spvper does.

you can cap the tickets in less than 24 hours without being diamond or mithril. i rarely ever play after reset on fridays and im only platinum, yet even when i was gold i finished tickets for the week between logging in on saturday morning and going to bed at 11 that night. I know someone who finishes tickets early saturday every week and hes only gold rank as well. The key is not following a huge zerg around, just going to an outnumbered map. which most servers have access to for a large portion of most days whether theyll admit it or not, even when i was on bg they generally had one map outnumbered for most of the day except during na prime. The point is, its very easy to finish diamond in 1-2 days, or very early in the week if you play less than some of us do, but the rewards for repeating it are very… unrewarding, for the entire rest of the week. and honestly its quite saddening. Even if they wont give us more tickets for repeating it, which i honestly wish anet would do, i would hope that they would make looping the diamond chest at least nearly as profitable as going through the earlier reward chest in the track. looping diamond gives less gold per loop than any of the mid teir final chest which give mystic coins or the rare materials packet. a mystic coin or two per repeat wouldnt be asking for very much but it would reward people for continuing to play.

Yes. i realize that many of the elite specs this expansion are focused on condi traits and weapons wise, however if you think about it, while this may not be desireable to everyone, it does make sense. Why i say this requires you to take a look at the elite specs from last expansion and then compare them to the elite specs from this one.
For instance: reaper was designed as a power spec, with a power oriented weapon (greatsword dealing power damage without certain traits) and only one condi oriented trait in the entire elite spec, and all of its utilities being power based without certain traits (though deathly chill was massively overpowered and reaper does work well with condi builds)it was designed with power in mind and with a vast majority of its traits being power build related. Reaper runes should also be noted as giving power and toughness, further supporting that it was intended to be power whatever the end result was.
This expansion, scourge is released, clearly a condi spec, its weapon, torch, deals condi damage, as do its utilities and death shroud skills, and traits as well. Yet why wouldn’t you expect this after reaper was released being primarily a power focused spec . Should they release 2 power elite specs in a row simply because most people played reaper with condi? Makes more sense to design a power one and then the next expansion do the opposite, make a condi one. which they have done.
Take a look at chrono next: Though many view this as a support spec, its clearly designed with power damage in mind, despite how well it works for condi. Absolutely none of its traits, utilities, or weapon skills inflict a meaningful amount of condi damage in any way, instead they are all based around power dps, including the runes and weapon skills. This spec comes with 0 traits that are directed towards condi builds despite how well it plays with condi shatter, its a drastic contract traits wise to mirage’s condi traits.
Mirage, coming this expansion, is clearly condi based, many of its traits giving condis and its weapon being condi based. Yet why shouldnt it be? anet released an elite spec that was designed for power builds left expansion, however people played it, so it makes sense for the elite spec this expansion to be a condi one. This decision was likely made a long time ago, without taking the current meta into account as it didnt exist yet.
Take a look at berserker next, however well it plays with power builds (and im fully aware how much damage and utility it offers to them) many of its traits, and the weapon that came with the elite spec as well as berserker runes are condi/hybrid based, leaning towards condi. Many berserker traits focused on burning, as did torch, with few traits being directed 100% at power builds.
This expansion spellbreaker is being released, which is clearly designed with power in mind, anyone else seeing a trend here? Last expansion power spec, this expansion condi spec, last expansion condi spec, this expansion power spec. This is going on abilities being granted by elite specs being condi or power focused, regardless of how well they work in practice with either type of build.
Last expansion guardian got dragonhunter, another power based elite spec, with no traits being directed at condi builds and the vast majority of its weapons and skills being power based, dealing heavy power damage and little condi. This expansion firebrand is clearly aimed to be played with a condi build, axe being condi focused, and many of firebrands traits and skills being condi focused and inflicting conditions.
Once again, power spec last expansion, condi spec this one. Is this a 100% trend, i dont know, im only doing on the classes that i play a lot. that many of them ended up working very well for builds other than what their traits are directed towards is also besides the point, i should point out that these elite specs in this expansion dont 100% block out play with builds based on a damage type outside of their main direction either, even if mirage traits are mostly condi focused it could be played with a power build.
Point being, yes, theres a lot of condi elite specs this expansion, yes, this is poorly timed, wvw meta currently is condi based and it has a lot of haters. But should you really not expected this? It doesnt make much sense to release a power elite spec 2 expansions in a row, one would have to be superior to the other at its intended field, making the other worthless. And from the classes i looked at, the ones that came with a power designed spec for hot are coming with a condi oriented one for pof.

mirage: the super speed on gaining mirage cloak feels way too short, it would feel like a lot better trait if the super speed gained was 1.5+ seconds imo, especially since mesmer lost its 25% speed.
Phantasms really should have ambush attacks as well as clones, i feel like it would make the spec a lot more viable.
Infinite horizons really should be baseline, its such an integral part of how the class works that it feels wrong to lock it behind the choice of a grandmaster trait
being rooted by scepter’s ambush attack is extremely detrimental in a fight, would be nice if you could move.
Axe’s power damage felt a little low, and the 2 skill really feels like it needs to be an evade.

btw axe 3 DOES retarget phantasms, but it only teleports axe clones to the target. phantasms and other clones however are still retargeted. read the discription, if they arent its a bug.

Since you don’t explain why I am forced to presume you are wrong and everybody else is right.

Mirage enables things you normally couldnt do, like stack 20 confusion on enemies with cover conditions without trouble whilst still having good options for survivability.

uhhh what? 20 stacks of confusion is doable on base mesmer easily, chrono i can get 30-50 stacks without too much effort.

now, im not saying mirage isnt good. ive personally had good success with it. it fits my playstyle rather well, and while a lot of the traits need work i find them to fit my setup nicely. is it perfect? no. does it compare condi wise with chrono? also no.

on a side note, while i miss the power of mistrust as a yolo factor, i dont mind the new ineptitude either, its got less initial oomph against a large group of idiots but its still a very effective trait when used with certain other options. I can still get very high confusion stacks with it, but the loss of the aoe on mistrust is quite saddening. Admitedly mistrust worked best against large groups of stupid people but it still was a very powerful tool if you used it properly. Regardless, the nerf to mistrust is less painful with the incoming loss of gravity well as i swap to mirage. mistrust was the main reason i didnt want to lose chronomancer before now, with this change im ok dropping it other than the loss of the 25% movement speed.

I even tried viper chrono for the damage but it is so bad.

Your burst damage is worse than berserker chrono and you get 1 shot by thief. Not worth at all.

or maybe your just bad at Mesmer and using the wrong weapons (probably staff) Mesmer is one of the classes which vipers gear is strongest on, you just have to not be an idiot.

I like these ideas the current pistol one is extremely underwhelming to me, I always felt like a slow moving bullet was so out of place, and cripple always seemed like more of a sword or greatsword thing than pistol for mesmers, I always thought if anything it should be a daze or stun, but id be totally cool with a mini unload.

the point is maybe not discouragement, but it rewards people who do things other than blob if not discouraging blobbing itself. now the people scouting towers on home bl by themselves will get a bonus amount of rewards, as will the few people fighting to do good for their server on a very outnumbered map while the zerg is fighting elsewhere. roaming has always been far less rewarding than zerging, this goes a long way towards fixing that.

actually I’m 100% cool with more roamers. just not tons of zergs on every map. I still bring my friends onto outnumbered maps with me cause it makes it more fun. and you can have a fairly large amount of roamers on a map and still be outnumbered, its when a tag comes to a map with a zerg that it disappears.

I like the outnumbered bonus, it encourages people to roam and havoc in outnumbered maps instead of following a blob constantly. its very reasonable to me as roaming is in general a much higher level of play than pressing 111111111111 in a zerg.

id love to see all passive traits and signets and what not that give classes a passive 25% movement speed increase have that effect made baseline and be given a new one. Its very painful to me to have to deal with some classes having it and some not, and others having way better access to it than others. And what about the classes that had it added in their heart of thorns elite specs? if the new elite spec in the next expansion for Mesmer for instance didn’t have a passive 25% movement speed trait then mesmers who got the effect from chronomancer trait line would be locked out of getting it with the new one. It would be an amazing quality of life change in my opinion for these to be made baseline think about the poor necros too! with no access to a boost they usually end up falling behind groups

he was referring to disabling the ram and then getting on the cannon. but in answer to your question, no, you are not the only one who knows this, but for some reason quite a large number of people don’t seem to realize that all siege is able to be disabled including cannons and mortars.

honestly I think that the best part of the pips system is one that people have been largely ignoring in this thread: That people will get extra pips for FIGHTING OUTNUMBERED, now whether that means just the outmanned buff or if its more details on a fight to fight basis, id say that this is actually a great addition and if anything should encourage people to be less blobby (as if people would actually do that.) but hey, I’m fine with a map blob following a commander on ebg ktraining objectives getting less rewards than me roaming on an outnumbered borderlands. In fact I’m quite happy with that :>

First off, some sigil suggestions:
X amount of stacks of bleeding on interrupt
burn on crit
a stacking sigil which stacks 1% movement speed per stack up to 25%
A version of force sigils for condi damage
a sigil which clears or transfers 1 condi on interrupt.

Rune suggestions:
Something with similar bonuses to rune of the mad king, condi duration 5% and bleed duration increases but with condi damage as the rune stat
A rune with a 6 skill similar to lyssa runes (converts 5 condis to boons on elite cast) but with condi damage as main stat
A rune that clears condis on block with an icd
Runes with on interrupt effects: ie might, vuln, bleeding, lifesteal, ect, but nothing to the opness of the old perplexity
Different stat variations of many runes with unique bonuses to make them viable with other types of builds.

As a side but very important note, I do think that many items which are pvp exclusive atm and those which are added to it (ie any runes sigils or stat combinations availiable there) should be made availiable to the rest of the game, ie pve and world vs world, as craftable pieces of gear or acquirable as selections on gear which you can select stats.
This would hopefully help create a wider variety of builds in the rest of the game. plus its unfair that the other gamemodes don’t get these awesome toys too.

on a special note id really like to see a type of squishy condi gear with precision and ferocity as two of its stats made available to the rest of the game, would encourage less people to run around as trailblazers and dire builds maybe.

ill say right now that this build is quite strong, ive ran into and messed around with something similar, at least in the traits on my necro, and its quite easy to maintain between 30-40 bleed stacks on most targets in wvw, many more on some (keep lords ect) this build is quite disgusting to run into a group with, you can pretty much spam skills and instantly down 3+ people in a few seconds. Admittedly I’m running a rather different version of it personally through a lot of random changes to make it…. well nastier.

I think it would be nice to see more gw1 armor and weapon skins available in the gems store. Gw1 had so so so many amazing looking armor sets which makes it very sad to see most of them not come back in gw2. Id personally like to see a lot of the assassin skins come back, but there are so many good ones skins for most classes in that game that would make great outfits.
On a side note tho, more sexy outfits would be nice.

I’m totally with the person who suggested fixing the no line of sight no valid path to target for blinks/teleports.
It is incredibly frustrating to try and blink away from something in a reasonable path, and have it tell you no.

as i mentioned in another post elsewhere, im very unhappy with the pistol phantasms initial attack, partly due to the fact that it reveals you, but more due to the fact that the attack is very poorly aligned with the rest of the weapon. first things first: it applies cripple, which has always been more of a greatsword thing, (trait which makes greatsword attacks cripple and the phantasmal berserker crippling foes) so it makes very little since to be on pistol. Secondly the damage is completely insignificant on the attack, making it seem almost purely designed to reveal you. I could accept this perhaps if the attack made more sense with pistol, for instance being a slow moving daze or a bullet that applied say 2 stacks of bleeding or another damaging condi as pistol is a very offensive/rupting weapon from what ive seen.

pretty much. its easiest to do actually when theres more people around, more rupts=more confusion. its a great build for yolos but…. its very easily killable and stab does a lot of negative things to builds running mistrust.
however. when it works it works well.

Which, if you think about it, is great balance for the trait and builds that rely on it. It has a clear counter through stab, but if it isn’t countered it can be absolutely devastating. However, that is tempered by the fact that the build itself is relatively easy to kill if you focus it down.

pretty much. The power of the trait is very strong, but honestly i don’t think it needs to be nerfed because as you said its balanced through other methods, being very easy to counter and through the fact that if you trait down that line you lose almost all sources of sustain. The build works very well in decently skilled hands, especially against idiots, but it faulters very quickly against people who know what there doing.

pretty much. its easiest to do actually when theres more people around, more rupts=more confusion. its a great build for yolos but…. its very easily killable and stab does a lot of negative things to builds running mistrust.
however. when it works it works well.

The dueling line needs to get a decent condi clear. I think that desperate decoy could be made into a pretty powerful condi cleanse that would be perfect for duels. Change it so that evading an attack transfers 1 condition from you to each illusion (so up to 3 transferred total) with a 15-20sec ICD. Its fairly weak on its own, but you could combine it with light fields (WoE or focus) and/or domination signet trait for pretty solid condi cleanse in a duel situation without being forced into the inspirations line.

I kinda like that idea, but wouldn’t it work better with deceptive mirror? as that’s already an evasion based traitline. maybe add it in somehow or change the function a bit?
I had another idea though which could work, change the pistol trait in the first column from a 25% recharge on interrupt to instead clear 1 condi on interrupt with like a short icd? Might get some more people using pistol if that happened. I personally love the weapon and wouldn’t give up the pistol trait for a condi clear in the same column.

Am I the only one who thinks it would be nice to get some good options for sustain/condi clear outside of the inspiration traitline/restorative illusions? While I feel like RI is a strong trait and a very good option, I feel like for the vast majority of pvp/wvw Mesmer builds your almost roped into taking inspiration for sustain/condi clears.
Personally I find that this is a little (or a lot) restrictive, and would like to see some other alternative sources of condi clear from traits to create options for more build diversity for mesmers.
I know that illusions has the trait which makes torch clear condis, and domination has the signets clears condis trait, but without running inspiration as well these two sources of clears are generally very insufficient against most condi builds.
Personally I think it would be nice if some other Mesmer trait lines which are in general underused got access to condi clear, for instance maybe a condi clear while in stealth for chaos, (just a suggestion that makes sense to me) and maybe a on interrupt condi cleanse in the dueling traitline, making it a much more useable choice. As the first and third columns of traits already have an on interrupt trait, it would be pretty nice to put the suggested trait in the middle of the line, IE replace/edit blind on shatter/reflect on evade/sword trait.
EDIT: also as all other Mesmer traits which clear condis are in the first or second trait column it would make sense to continue the patern here.
Changing one of the minor traits in those lines might also make sense, considering that the condi clear on heal skill use is a minor trait in inspiration.
This would help give mesmers more options for how they want to spec and help to encourage more build diversity.
Just my 2 cents, opinions are welcome. My two ideas for condi cleanse in other trait lines are just that, ideas, and im welcome to hearing what other peoples thoughts/ideas about the matter.

Step 1: grab a guardian.
Step 2: Grab condi gear
Step 3: Apply guardian runes to condi gear
Step 4: stand in arrow cart fire and pop blocks.
Proceed to watch arrow cart melt.

Sorry to make this post here, but I was typing out a post in the official thread and posted it only to find that the window closed while I was typing out the post.
What I was wanting to say is that I have messed around with the initial attacks on phantasm summoning skills today, mostly the ones on torch and pistol, and I feel that while the torch phantasms initial hit lines up well with how the weapon plays, applying meaningful stacks of burning to targets while dealing a low damage hit makes since for torch as it is a mainly utility and stealth weapon with burning as its main damaging condi. All in all well thought out and a decent exchange for the attack revealing you on phantasm cast.
The pistols initial attack however feels wrong to me. Pistol is a weapon which plays well with any sort of build, power condi or hybrid (pending on trait selections) and on a whole is a very offensive weapon, with the stun/daze/blind/confusion on the 5 skill and high power damage on the phantasm, both skills having access to bleeding through traits. However the attack added to the pistol phantasm deals a almost meaningless amount of power damage and applies a cripple to one enemy, which always felt like more of a greatsword/phantasmal berserker thing (cripple through traits/baseline cripple on the phantasmal berserkers attack) so it feels like it doesn’t fit in well with the weapon, as well as revealing you and only applying a small amount of cripple.
I would feel better about the pistol phantasms initial attack if it was more inline with how the weapon functions normally, being something like 1-2 stacks of bleeding or another damaging condi or perhaps maintaining the slow bullet but being a daze instead, maintaining pistol as a rupt weapon. A slightly higher baseline damage for the skill would also feel more meaningfull, as it is a weapon that functions very strongly with power damage as well as condi. But not to the extent that the pistol phantasms damage needs to be nerfed.

On a whole however, I like the way that anet is going with these attacks, though being revealed on phantasm cast is a little odd and takes a bit to get used to, perhaps it would feel more balanced if the hit that revealed you was more than a few hundred damage tops, and I feel like something like this should be added to the other Mesmer weapons phantasm attacks, for instance making a crippling attack on greatsword phant, a slow attack on shield phant, ect.

Ive tested this a lot ingame and ive noticed that for certain the 5% condi damage stat on the full set of runes isn’t adding to your condition damage stat currently. It may well be that the 5% power damage stat on the runes is broken as well atm. Would it be possible to check and possibly fix these issues? ive invested in several sets of these runes to use on various armors and was extremely disappointed to find them broken. A timely fix would be extremely nice if possible.
you can reproduce this issue by adding and removing the 6th superior rune of the beserker from your armor and seeing that the condition damage stat does not increase.

Currently in the game there are a lot of fully complete stat combinations available in spvp that are uncraftable in pve and wvw, as well as certain runes which are only available in spvp as well.
While i get that these stat combos and runes have been made available in spvp to increase the viability of certain builds there since mixing and matching armor is unavailiable, i strongly believe that the majority of these stat combinations/spvp specific gear should be made available as craftable exotic/ascended items, and added as a selectable stat on items which you can chose stats for.
Now, i realize that this may be a lot to ask, and it may require a fairly large amount of work, and possibly cause some balance issues in other gametypes, but i strongly believe it should be considered as an option, allowing more viability and versatility in build making for the game as a whole. After all, since spvp is supposedly more fairly balanced currently than the rest of the game, and these stat combos are allowed and generally not abused in there, it couldnt hurt far too much to make them availiable to all players in my eyes.
