Power/Condi dps comparison in OW?

in Necromancer

BlasiuS.8961

In open-world, GS power is better since it has way more burst damage. Everything dies in a few seconds in open-world, so you won’t even be able to get more than a few stacks of bleeding.

The same is true of T1/T2 fractals.

However starting in T3 fractals, many bosses start to have insane amounts of health. Also enemy armor maxes out at fractal 50, but condition damage ignores armor. Because of these 2 together, Viper condi is better in T3/T4 fractals.

with some party support.

If you know you’re going to be with a group then use PS Warrior, the same one used in dungeons.

If you’re going to be mostly solo, then make some tweaks to the dungeon build: switch out Tactics for Arms, and switch out your banner skills for signets.

Gear can be all berserker (or if you’re min-maxing and have ascended, 2 Assassin trinkets and the rest Berserker)

Berserker has Power, precision, and ferocity.
Valkyrie has Power, vitality, and ferocity.

Precision give critical hit chance while vitality increases max health and max life force.

No I mean in that build, which trinkets should be berserker trinkets, and which trinkets should be valkyrie trinkets? berserker rings, valkryrie accessories? or valkyrie rings and berserker accessories? Should the back be berserker or valkyrie? etc.

It does not matter where the stat’s come from. They all get tossed into the same calculator. You can have berserker armor and valkyrie trinkets, valkyrie armor and berserker trinkets, mixed valkyrie and berserker armor and/or trinkets, or even favor one over the other for more precision or vitality. There are no rules for where stat’s are equipped.

Runes and sigils are also not affected by equipment placement. They only affect, and are affected by, totals shown in the hero panel.

Yeah, I guess I’m more concerned with the amount of berserker trinkets vs. amount of valkyrie trinkets.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sounds like I’ll go with the greatsword dungeon build.

With Valkyrie armor, Berserker + Valkyrie trinkets and Berserker weapons, you will (with fury) have 100% crit (plus or minus 2%). The boost to vitality is more useful than the wasted precision.

I will try this. Which trinkets are berserker and which are valkyrie?

After looking up the new HoT builds, there seems to be good choices for all game types, but I’m unsure what build to go for in open-world.

Can I just use the dungeon/fractal build (greatsword/berserker)? If so, is getting all lvl 80 berserker exotics a good starting point? Or is there a different build that I should use for open-world stuff?

Your teams switch up as you win/lose and you can report people for Akitteng I believe. But your idea is a good one, so I would suggest putting it in the suggestion forum. I can see your issues and it’s a decent solution.

If they can teleport you into the arena to be a free kill when idle, then they can kitten well teleport you OUT of the game so you don’t get to leech other people and screw up their games. Haven’t played one yet without at least one, usually 2 or 3 afk on my team. Hell, normal game they dump you into character creation. Can do that here to. Just to kitten dumb and lazy not doing it.

they should definitely fix the problem, but taking AFK players out of the arena during a game is too open to abuse. As soon as a team gets a lead they could all just AFK and teleport out of the arena for the free win.

The drop rate is not reduced. It’s just impossible to get the free +200% magic find as before, so you get less of them.

That is most likely correct. However stating the drop rate is not reduced is a bit bold unless you were responsible for writing that code. Might as well be a double-hit with losing the MF buff and the drop rate being reduced.

I like the idea actually, makes it really unlikely to get them but if someone’s life depends on getting such a skin, he can farm his heart out.

Since there’s nothing in the patch notes saying that the drop rate of the Southsun Crates was reduced, we can assume that they remained the same.

Why no /inspect ?

Actually, people abuse gear linking by “forcing” you to link gear (if you refuse, you get kicked). So the choice is out of the hands of the inspectee, and therefore really isn’t any different from inspect in terms of how easily it is abused and/or how easily it supports elitism.

No, if you choose to not link your gear and get kicked that is a consequence of the choice, it does not negate the choice to not link gear.

I’m sure there are a small amount of people who don’t want inspect simply for the sake of privacy. However the most common fear in this thread by a large margin is from the consequence of being kicked, not the choice of whether to reveal gear. They are people who are afraid that they will be kicked from a dungeon group because of /inspect revealing their inadequate gear. And whether you get kicked because you refused to link your inadequate gear, or whether you get kicked because the group/group leader inspected and saw your inadequade gear, the result is the same.

And so while inspect has an invasion of privacy angle to it, it is no different than linking gear or seeing someone’s class in terms of how easily it is abused and/or how easily it supports elitism.

Yes it does apply, as they are both useful tools that can be open to abuse and elitism. Examples of people who abuse being able to see someone’s class: you get people who say “NO RANGERS” for a dungeon, see that you’re a ranger (because they can see your class, without your consent I might add), and kick you. Or you get people that say “ZERK WARRIOR ONLY” for a dungeon, see that you’re not a zerk warrior, and kick you, etc.

I am not sure what tool you are talking about? /inspect is a tool. The little symbol that indicates your class is not a tool – it’s an icon.

tool, icon, feature, mechanic, etc. I don’t care what you call it, I’m not here to discuss semantics. The point is they both let you see information about a character.

But linking gear and seeing someone’s class are open to abuse, yet there are no “cosmetic-only” restrictions on those tools, so why would you do that for inspect?

There’s no need for any bizarre options on inspect, just like there’s no need for any bizarre options for linking gear or seeing someone’s class.

From the consensus of dissenters:

Because it is their choice to ping said gear, Inspect with no ability to disable takes the choice out of the hands of the inspectee, and isn’t choice better

Actually, people abuse gear linking by “forcing” you to link gear (if you refuse, you get kicked). So the choice is out of the hands of the inspectee, and therefore really isn’t any different from inspect in terms of how easily it is abused and/or how easily it supports elitism.

-snip-

As for the class argument, I have no logical response, because it truthfully isn’t a logical argument and does not really apply to the /inspect request.

How do you consider /inspect intrusive? Every game i’ve played that had /inspect, i honestly couldn’t tell you how many times i’ve been inspected. It could’ve been zero times or it could’ve a thousand times. I will never know because it has never intruded on my personal being.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound?

Yes – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound

The tree falling causes the oscillation of pressure through the air, just because no one is there doesn’t mean this didn’t happen.

So how is it intrusive, that person still looked at your character without your permission. Just because you don’t know it happened doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. What your arguing is whether or not someone was inconvenienced by it, which they may or may not end up being.

Seems much less inconvenient then being asked to ping your gear. What bothers you about people seeing your gear? If someone looks at your gear, without you knowing, and doesn’t do anything as a result, what’s the issue? I wont accept oscillating air pressure as an answer, unfortunately.

I mean, they can already get an idea of what you’re wearing just by looking at you. Maybe you should suggest an image blur so people can’t see what your character looks like, since you’ll just look like low-rez pixels.

Hmm… bet’cha can’t, thanks to the liberal use of T-stones.

An /inspect would be a bad addition to GW2. If you give someone a tool to make an idiot of themselves with, rest assured, they will.

The usefulness of the tool has nothing to do with how dedicated people are to making an idiot of themselves using it.

If someone is an idiot, rest assured they will make an idiot of themselves no matter what tool they use.

Dismissing an extremely useful tool just because idiots will try and abuse it is very bad design. There’s tons of useful things in the game currently that could potentially be abused by a big enough idiot. That doesn’t make those things any less useful.

Also: the game itself can’t enforce discriminatory actions. For example, some groups already discriminate by requiring you to link your gear. Does that mean we should not have the ability to link items? Of course not. As another example, some groups discriminate by requiring you to be a certain class. Does that mean we should not have the ability for you to see what class someone is? Of course not. Likewise, some people may discriminate by inspecting your gear and kicking you if your gear is insufficient. Does that mean we should not have the ability for you to inspect? Of course not.

Rather, yes of course we shouldn’t. Because it empowers those who would misuse the tool. Don’t give a monkey a handgun, I’d say-it “won’t end well”, as our Sylvari friend would say.

Feel free to disagree; I don’t see how individuals at the opposite end of this argument will ever change their opinion, and to each their own. This kind of threads are rather useless when it comes down to prove “who’s right”. It’s a game, let’s just be OK with the idea that people are allowed to dissent.

Following your metaphor: So guns shouldn’t exist because if you give them to monkeys they will misuse them? tsk tsk, horrible logic.

But horrible logic aside, being able to link gear and see the class of other people aren’t “handguns”, they’re more like hammers and screwdrivers i.e. useful tools.

And those hammers and screwdrivers are safer, albeit still open to abuse, than a handgun. Rather than implementing an inspect (assuming it does not have the ability to allow people to disable it), ANet could simply implement a cosmetic-only inspect and a better way to ping builds and gear for those who choose to. The easiest solution, of course, would be to just implement /inspect and allow players to choose one of three options: “Inspect Enabled”, “Inspect Cosmetic Enabled Only”, “Inspect Disabled” or something similar.

First, I have been playing GW2 Since beta and I truly love this game.
I decided yesterday that I’ve been playing for quite some time and I haven’t contributed enough for what the game is worth to me. So I proceeded to purchase $60 US dollars worth of Gems.
I used $40 of that to purchase these new Southsun “Supply Crates”. I wasn’t expecting mini pets or really rare items, but i was expecting at least one sclerite weapon skin ticket, Let me tell you, these “crates” are exactly what they say they are. Supplies, that’s it. For$40 dollars i recieved.
Passion Flowers
Passion Fruits
Karka Shells
and two mobile crafting stations…

This is TOTALLY ridiculous…
Being unlucky is one thing but $40 for mats I can just farm in the area that I’m in anyway? Shame on you.
It makes me sick just thinking about how many unsuspecting players have done the same thing just to be rewarded with basic materials…

Not sure what you mean by “solution”; there’s no problem here. A non-subscription MMO like Guild Wars 2 needs a way to make money. One way is to have these purchasable chests.

The people that want the rewards (like the skins) bad enough will gamble on the chests. The people who don’t want it bad enough won’t bother with it. Either way, there’s no inherent advantage given to anyone because remember, they’re just skins. So everyone wins.

I think for the amount of work it must take for Anet to make a skin. Letting players buy them outright should net them a large profit.

Anet doesn’t need RNG, just design more gem store skins and content.

I think you’re severely underestimating the amount of gullible people who will spend (or already have spent) $200+ on chests just so they can get the skin.

I’m pretty confident that making the skins available only through a small chance on a very rare but purchasable chest is making ANet way more money than if they just sold the skins directly.

RNG will not create a stable player base.

But it won’t destroy one either.

It’s one out of 11 possible achievements, of which you only need to complete 5 for the daily rewards. So far daily achievements have always been a mix of all the different things you can do in game (jumping puzzles, WvW, mini games which now include crab toss) but in my experience there has always been at least 5 that can be done easily and quickly in regular gameplay without doing one jump puzzle, mini game or stepping in WvW at all.

I did tonight’s particularly quick, though, did 4 of them in the thaumanova reactor (daily kill variety, maguuman event completer with one fire elemental + pre-events, daily champion by doing the bonus boss event with the matrix key someone had, and daily recycler by salvaging the stuff I got as drops from doing those), then I had a choice of krytan killer (which includes southsun), daily gatherer or daily condition remover for the 5th one, ended up being condition remover which I finished quickly fighting a couple of drakes, but that’s because as a DPS/support specced guardian I had lots of condition removal options.

I think you are replying to the wrong thread.

No he is clearly responding to the OP’s complaint about the Crab Toss achievement being one of the options for the daily. Re-read the first sentence of the OP since it seems you missed it.

Level 30 zerker warrior dungeon setup

BlasiuS.8961

Well if you’re running level 30 gear, there is no ‘berserker’. If you’re talking about ‘honed’ then I’d strongly advice against it. Honed gear provides a very small amount of critical damage at the price of a large chunk of stat points.

Depending what weapon you use, I’d say you’d get more bang for your buck with either Vigorous (Power major, Vit minor) or Potent (Power major, Condition minor). If you’re not running 2 signets, I’d advice you do with 10 in arms and the major adept trait Deep Strikes. With that set up, you get about 180 precision which will help skyrocket your critical hit chance without investing much else into that stat. With all your gear having power as a major stat and your crit rate taken care of by fury (use FGJ if you can) and your trait + signet, the rest is up to you.

I find condition damage pretty good at that level since the ghosts tent to be brick walls of HP and last 20 or more seconds not to mention they like to CC you a lot meaning you have to dodge more or just wait out the daze/stuns.

I find Greatsword and Swords to be pretty good for melee in this case (you can kite and disengage if your heal isn’t recharged) instead of Axe or Mace. Hammer is also a very good weapon as pretty much all the bosses have no protection against knockdown….so GS for damage, Sword or GS for damage/kite and Hammer for damage/CC. Up to you.

I’d also keep a ranged weapon on secondary as you want to have the freedom to disengage but still do damage. If everyone is of level, you need to be flexible. Longbow is the superior choice here as the fire field can help stack might and it synergizes well if you have condition damage buffing stats.

The ghosts are just walls of HP really, so tossing a pin-down then rushing in to melee and disengage while bleeds tic and your heal recharge has worked great when I ran it on my warriors. Hammer is fun and you can go a more tanky role with it in this dungeon if you want but at the end of the day, just kill ghosts faster…

This is the type of info I’m looking for. I’m going with:

6x vigorous armor (2x minor dolyak rune, 2x minor soldier rune, 2x minor citadel rune)
strong GS
all power/prec trinkets

10 points into strength for Berserker’s Power, 10 points into tactics for Empower Allies (but mostly for the extra vitality)

healing skill: healing surge
utility skills: FGJ, OMM, whatever banner is best for the team
elite: signet of rage

How are you a ‘zerker’ warrior if you’re only level 30? Berserker gear isn’t available until level 55.

On topic: People say dungeons aren’t good unless you’re high level but those people are wrong. The most important thing you need when running a dungeon is knowledge and persistence. If you’re new, expect to die a good few times until you learn the monsters you face. Don’t give up though…even a level 80 who is new will be eaten alive by those mobs.

Seems a tad pointless for me to go on about the dungeon itself…just jump in and have fun. If you’re concerned about completing it, try looking up some videos as I’m sure there have been many guides made of AC story…it’s a popular dungeon in a way…

I’ve run AC story plenty, just not with a warrior. I’m not looking for general help on AC story. I’m looking specifically for the best setup for a level 30 warrior.

Level 30 zerker warrior dungeon setup

-Ghost Rangers are hard to fight because they will poison you and make your heal nearly worthless. Try to let them aggro others or block/dodge them and then melee them dead quickly.

-Warriors hurt, do not facetank, circle strafe, stick and move attack them

-Necros will put like 8 conditions on you but most of them dont do that much damage. Sit on top of them and spam your highest DPS until they die.

- CC is good for keeping warriors off your back, but its too hard to time rupts or CC on the other enemy’s.

-The Lover’s boss fight will be incredible hard for a zerker warrior. Go all defensive, do not even attempt to melee.

-The final King Adelborne boss will kill you if you melee, range him , dodge circles and you shouldnt die.

-Dont open multiple tombs in the beggining to avoid fighting more than 1 monster at a time.

-Bring at least 1 form of condition removal.

-Use Greatsword for 100b, evades from whirlwind, and Rush #5 has decent dps if you think that will finish a enemy off

-Focus fire enemys. Even as zerker, you cannot solo carry the team. Dont be off trying to kill your own Ele, while the team is beating down on a Ranger. You wont win any solo battles here, but if you zerker warrior focus with team, itll sync very nicely

this is great info, and thanks for answering my 2nd question, but the point of this thread is my 1st question, the one I asked in the OP. What’s the answer to that one?

leveling in dungeons isn’t the fastest way to level.

please stay on-topic.

Getting 4 level 80s to carry you. Trying to do AC right at 30 can be… rough, if you don’t know the dungeon well already.

well what exactly do I need to know about the dungeon in order to do it at level 30?

Do we have too many currencies?

I’d much rather see a token trader… If i don’t want to play a certain dungeon, but want the skin i shouldn’t be forced to play it. There really isn’t a good reason for all these currencies other than forcing people to play content they might not enjoy. I get the wvw badges however and the glory. But, pve gated stuff is silly. I like the concept behind it, just not the implementation. If i run Arah because i enjoy it, why can’t i get CM stuff? CM takes 1/3 of the time to run.

rather, you’re just complaining that you can’t convert dungeon tokens of one type into another so that you can get the CM skin you want. That’s a totally separate issue that has nothing to do with the amount of currencies in the game.

How 10 different types of dungeon “currencies” isn’t a rational for an excessive amount of currencies is beyond your scope of thinking, apparently.

It’s one token type per dungeon, how is that excessive.

Anyway that’s besides the point; what is “excessive” is purely subjective, so unless you have a concrete definition don’t bother trying to belittle my scope of thinking, thanks.

Also interesting on how you lumped dungeon tokens into one currency, which is pretty much what i proposed to begin with. Saying one token type per dungeon, when there are 9 different traders with 10 different currencies all trading unique things to me is excessive. And that’s just dungeons.

Regardless, there’s no point debating it. You obviously have a different opinion on the matter.

No I didn’t lump them into one currency. kitten they’re not even currency, they’re tokens. And I said one token type per dungeon. Which is exactly what the system is. I’m not double-talking. It’s a very simple and straightforward system.

Having a different opinion is not the problem. But arguing back and forth about subjective opinions on what is “excessive” is a barrier to discussion.

If there’s going to be a meaningful debate on whether or not we have too many currencies, we first have to define what “too many” means.

When Rox said flock, she meant it literally. Get the group (flock) out of here. Then she makes a reference to sheep. “I’ll be the ram. You be the sheep and follow.” “Why do you get to be the ram?” “Because I have horns.” It wasn’t intended to replace the F word.

Double entendre – speech device where a word/phrase carries two meanings simultaneously.

he’s saying it’s not a double entendre. So don’t read into it as if it were.

Seriously. STOP IT.
We paid your game. We want those skins, but we don’t want them to be a CRAPPY RNG BASED KITTEN!
SERIOUSLY. I would’ve bought at least 3-4 fused weapons skins, instead they put them into those stupid black lion chests with a ridiculously low chance of dropping (i opened +/- 15 of those from dropped keys and bough ones and got not even one), it sucks and nobody frigging like it.
We want stuff to be fair kitten it, personally, it’s the last time i buy anything on the gem store untill they start making stuff fair and whatnot.

haha, the reason you want that skin so bad is because it’s highly prized.

Now, consider this question very carefully: Do you know why it’s highly prized?

Then, realize the answer: It’s only so highly prized because of how rare it is. People love having rare/sought after stuff.

If fused skins were cheap and easy to get, it wouldn’t be nearly as sought after, and there wouldn’t be nearly as many people shelling out $100-150 just for a ticket.

As for your personal issues with CM, that’s your own problem. It’s impossible to match the personal tastes in skins for all players with their personal taste in dungeon content, without compromising their core design. If you really want those CM skins bad enough, then they’ll justify the grind.

As for the trader, that would directly contradict ANets design philosophy for their dungeons. If such a trader existed, everyone would only play the dungeon that gave the most tokens/hour and ignore the rest; obviously ANet doesn’t want this.

It’s not “impossible to match the personal tastes in skins for all players with their personal taste in dungeon content, without compromising their core design”, i’m giving an example how it is possible. I’ve not read or heard of anything saying this is a core design philosophy choice. But of course, this thread is entirely about questioning the excessive amount of currencies, which is what i’ve been doing, along with offering a possible solution.

Your solution directly goes against the dungeon design, so no that’s not a solution; at least, not for ANet.

You’re clearly not questioning excessive currencies at all:

I’d much rather see a token trader… If i don’t want to play a certain dungeon, but want the skin i shouldn’t be forced to play it. This is just silly. The dungeon gear is the reward for doing the dungeon! Of course you should have to play through a dungeon if you specifically want that dungeons gear.

The whole point of making the dungeon gear the same as other level 80 exotic gear is so that you aren’t forced to play through it in order to have the best stats. The gear is purely cosmetic. Complaining that ANet is “forcing” you to play through a dungeon just for a purely cosmetic skin that you happen to like is petty.

The entire game is based around cosmetics when it comes to gear, so basically the entire design around cosmetic gear is petty then. More options for “rewards” is better than gating gear behind specific dungeon tokens. I have a ton of CoE tokens and Arah tokens, but I like CM armor. I loathe running CM, it’s boring and i really don’t like the story, so if i want CM i’m forced to play that dungeon over and over, period. It’s poorly thought out since many dungeon tokens are useless to a plethora of people.

I suggested a trader to give people with useless tokens a chance to get something different, ultimately have a single token type for all dungeons and rewarding more tokens for harder dungeons would make sense as well. Fractals rewards 2 token types (not to mention globs and essences) it’s really just out-of-hand at this point. I have 2.5 bank tabs of tokens I prolly will never use, seems like a waste to me.

I think you’re confusing “entire game” with “end-game armor and weapon stats”. They are very different.

The end-game gear design has nothing to do with your petty complaining, trying to equate them is confusing, bizarre, and most importantly, wrong.

The CoE and Arah tokens come directly from running those dungeons. That means you ran those dungeons over and over for tokens you don’t even need -_-

As for your personal issues with CM, that’s your own problem. It’s impossible to match the personal tastes in skins for all players with their personal taste in dungeon content, without compromising their core design. If you really want those CM skins bad enough, then they’ll justify the grind.

Do we have too many currencies?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: BlasiuS.8961

BlasiuS.8961

Hello,

at all my playtime I always tried to have an overview about all things going on in GW, one thing I watched is that there were a lot currencies added over the time.

I tried to list, we have:
- gold
- gems
- karma
- dungeon tokens
- guild commendations
- fractal relicts
- laurels
- wvw badges
- skill points
- glory
and had SA-Box baubles, captain’s council commendations.

In every way those save you some money(gold) or bring you some. But I think it’s quite hard to constantly have an overview about the uses of them all, especially if you’re not playing that much, I think it can cause some confusion. Or is it necessary to have so many currencies because it balances the game better? I’m not sure.

There’s a few problems with the implications of this post.

Firstly, some of the things you listed are not currency. Dungeon tokens, fractal relics, WvW badges, and baubles/commendations are all tokens, since they are physical objects and take up inventory space. Currencies do not take up physical inventory space.

Secondly, even if you do count them as currencies, what exactly do you mean by “too many currencies”? What happens if you have “too many” of them? They are certainly not hard to keep track of; for example, for the dungeon tokens, all the dungeon merchants in the entire game are grouped together under one tent in Lion’s Arch: each dungeon has a corresponding merchant which you trade in that dungeon’s tokens for. It’s extremely simple and straight-forward.

As for whether it’s necessary or not? Well it depends on your design philosophy. ArenaNet’s design philosophy is that having separate currencies for separate content encourages the player to want to experience ALL of a game’s content. Which I think is a great idea.

I’d much rather see a token trader… If i don’t want to play a certain dungeon, but want the skin i shouldn’t be forced to play it. There really isn’t a good reason for all these currencies other than forcing people to play content they might not enjoy.
