Renegade viable for pve/fractals/dungeons

in Revenant

Posted by: Bogus.1598

Bogus.1598

Hi i wonder if the renegade has any future in open world pve/ solo content and doing a occasional fractal/dungeon?

I love the mace/axe combo due to the fire field and the blast finishers and the skills just look awesome. I noticed there is a trait that gives protection on activation of the renegade warband skills, will such a build be good enough for the content i like, or am i doomed to play the boring firebrand if i wanna support others.

Any constructive feedback and idea’s are welcome!

Cheers

[PvE] Why should I chose Rev as my main?

U can start a fight with 100% energy, it gives u a little extra, maybe the extra a lot of people want….it doesnt change a thing about managing your resources, u just have more to start with…if u think its OP…then 75% could be a nice middle way….

If u start a work out, you dont start with 50% of your own energy, cause that would suggest u feel crap and should lay in bed, not work out… :P:P

As of late i have been reading a lot of negative comments about the revenant.
I agree with the energy stuff, u should start with 100% instead of 50% but alas.

The revenant is just a fun class! It has Cool weapon skills, teleport in axe, sword and a blast finisher and short cd fire field with mace, good methodes for cc and break bar removal.
Yes it has poor condi removal if u dont spec for ventari, but the class is just cool, the animations are cool, the weapon skills are cool.

Ive changed my main from a guardian to a Herald for that reason.
Guardian might be “better” but way more boring as well.
I rather be the underdog with wich i love the skills and playstyle, then be bored while playing.

This is the build im using atm in the new HoT map’s.
I can solo elites and champions pretty easely and it is build around a “sword and board” idea.
I use the a defensive weapon with a offensive one. Sword+shield and Mace+ torch.
Its a fun build focussing a lot on blocking, healing from symbols and aegis and retaliation uptime. I tried to mix my damage a bit. Dealing direct damage through my armor (zerker) and my weapons and trinkets with condi duration/damage.
Fun build imo! U wont die so easely with this build trust me

What i run currently is Radiance and Zeal, trying to keep up retaliation and aegis.
For weapons i use Scepter/shield and Mace/torch, this looks like a weird combination but works like a charm…i got a defense and offense option on both of my sets, combines range and melee as well…I love it, wonder if i would run the DH at 80…
Good luck, Cheers!

Rework staff #1 idea.

Bogus.1598

Hi,

I wanna do a suggestion to fix the staff of the guardian, cause at the moment the #1 skill removes all the utility and range. It was a bad nerf that lacks any comment on why from Anet. We can talk about the reasons for a year or so but that probably wont help.
Maybe posting new idea’s for the number #1 staff skill will help.

I got a idea that works with the theme of the guardian.
Make the skill work as Light of Judgement, the Trident skill from the guardian.
A 1200 range orb that bounces 4 times granting healing to allies and damage to monsters.
If u let the orb bounce between monsters alone and healing allies it passes u got a good range option on the staff.
For the speed of the orb i would like the speed of the fireball from the elementalist or the #1 staff skill from the necromancer.

Post your idea’s on what is a good fix for #1 skill, maybe it helps!

Cheers Bogus

Aye, i agree, such cast time is only justified if we can target the sword to be cast on a place like the symbols we cast with Sword #2 for example.

Otherwise removing the cast time is a very good idea, making the spirit sword less bad.

If Anet wants to warn people that a guardian is gonna use a spirit skill they could create a swirling sword around the guardian as long as the skill is active or has charges or something.

Bogus.1598

I recently came back to gw2, i saw the firebrand, loved the idea of supporting with tomes and mantra’s and wanted to make a build with it, then i noticed the staff nerf…
Im not saying its not justified, what i hate is that the base guardian has 0!!!! i repeat 0 ways to play along the event kills. I cant even get a kill of because the lack of aoe and range skills….Anet please undo the change or re invent the whole staff giving it a option to aoe loot with a decent range.

Scepter is poor to say the least, it divides the damage between targets, the symbol is 900 range, too less for events to get a tag of, cause the damage is divided, so not enough damage for loot what so ever…

Ooh and another thing, remove the cast time from spirit weapons, making it instant justifies the 900 range…otherwise make it 1200 range and make it so we can decide where we drop it…this gives the guardian the aoe it deserves

I think this would be a good baseline Tank build, focusing on shout, plenty of boon duration for shouts and plenty of condition removal.

I focussed on aegis, so aegis damages mobs and heals when removed.
Also plenty of uptime on Retaliation, wich i like a lot, since u wont be dealing that much damage. Its good to give a portion back. Trinkets and amulet are personal choice, dunno what the best options are for your taste.
Hope it helped!

Let retaliation damage scale of toughness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bogus.1598

I understand people dont like that a defensive stat like toughness doesnt boost a “offensive” stat like retaliation, but if u really think of it, it actually makes sense!

If u build with high toughness u will NEVER have high or higher damage then full zerk. If you build full toughness u wont be able to kill anything fast or faster then zerk.
it makes sense right?

Its the reason why retaliation damage is so low atm. Make it too strong and power builds really become OP with retaliation damage. If u let it scale of toughness you, have poor retal damage if build like a zerker. But if u build like a tank then you get high damage from retaliation, meaning u wont be able to kill as fast as a zerker, cause your damage is way less then a full zerker. This means u wont be a danger to anything or anyone cause u hit like a noodle. U will be rather annoying like a fly buzzing around your head.

BUT

you will be come a danger when people attack you without thinking. If you put retaliation buff on you and people go full out on a rapid fire, for instance, then they get punished for NOT watching your boons.

This goes beyond one class, with just letting retaliation damage, scale of toughness. Its the only “offensive” boon that should scale from it tbh. It wont be overpowered one bit, it will open up a lot of new builds, pve and pvp!!!

For pve it will mean u can build like a tank and play like a tank, it supports ANET vision of “play it your way”

Oh and if a Dev can react on the topic i would be very happy, thanks for all the reply’s all!

Let retaliation damage scale of toughness

Dear Anet team and forum readers,

For a long time now i have a idea in my head, to play a “tank” based class wich deals damage and becomes lethal with retaliation boon on him.
I would love that to be a guardian, so im leveling one now. While leveling i did some research and found out that Retaliation scales of power.

Wouldnt it be a good idea to let retaliation scale of toughness? By choosing toughness as main stat u wont be able to kill others quick (for pvp for example) but u will become a threat if combined with the boon retaliation. This would open up a lot of new builds, without compromising game stability by a large number.

For pve, u still have to watch your retaliation buff in order to be able to kill something, (high toughness means less damage taken and high retal damage) Btw u cant go afk and think i will kill everything around me, cause u still have to watch your buffs.

for pvp it will mean that u wont be much of a threat UNLESS you are attacked by people who are not watching your boons and go in to battle without thinking. This means that pvp becomes more exciting and more in depth then the current power and condi builds where people just go blindly into battles.

What do u guy’s and ofcourse Anet Devs think? I hope it will be picked up and if it is, maybe look into classes to give more retaliation traits/ skills and maybe boon stripping options??

Cheers!

Retaliation viable?

Bogus.1598

The thing is if u let retal damage scale of toughness and not power it will never be overpowered, since if u dont go zerk stats, your damage will definatly take a hit, so you wont be too dangerous. But if u are getting hit, then you are dangerous, it would give a new build and play style that u can transfer to ALL classes that want to build with retaliation. There becomes a lot viable that way and i think a lot of people would like the idea that they can build their char tanky with high retal damage.
I hope a dev would react about this idea.

But now, speccialy in HoT maps, mobs hit fast and hard.

Im curious if people tried retaliation builds and if it is viable, i really hope someone can tell me if it is. The build is for pve only.

Thanks in advance!

Staff 1 Rapid swipe needs a cast reduction to instant, so u can actually start the auto attack chain, since half a second is makes it that whenever a mob just moves one inch, you stop attacking all the way, decreasing your attack rate massivly. Please make it so

Bogus.1598

Dear Anet, can u please look into the first staff skill called Rapid Swipe.

The thing is, i love the staff as a weapon, not only for damage and control purposes but also for healing. The trouble is when im fighting with this beauty, every time i use a staff skill and i want to get back to auto attacking, it wont lock to the target because of the half second cast time of Rapid swipe.

The result is annoying gameplay because my revenant is standing still RIGHT next to my target cause he couldnt made that half a second cast time (due to al sorts of reasons) and is like, ok now im just standing here doing nothing.

It would be nice if Rapid swipe is instant so you can actually start the auto attack chain. I hope it wont be any trouble to do that so i can enjoy my revenant more.

Thanks in advance

This link has a post about the condi tempest. I personally run a variant with scepter/warhorn, earth, fire and tempest as traits and the fire shout, fire signet and run speed signet. For elite i mostly use the glyph of elemental.

My damage is a hybrid between power and condi damage since my gear sucks. HoT content goes very smooth though, even easier then my herald or chrono.

Turret -> Attachments

in Engineer

Bogus.1598

The ideas are fun and good from what ive read, but while they are that, i dont think they will ever be applied. I hope Anet will buff all the gadget skills by creating cd reduction traits as well as increased effects so that u can run a gadget build.
Give them something like turrets got with those boons.

Talking about turrets, give some of the longer cd turret a stun break function, like thumper or rocket. That way u can build something with a full focus on one skill, this gives choice and choice is good. Also give the turret trait a reduced cd or decrease some of the cd’s for the bigger turrets. from 50 to 30 sec or something. Same with the elite of that skill.

Talking about stun breakers, please remove stun break skills from toolbelt skills.
Toolbelt skills should be skills that u can use that do significant things but that shouldnt be something to really thought about. There are utility skills for those moments. I know i stir things up with that statement, but when u remove them, give them to other skills, like Rocket boots, or slick shoes. or make a trait, equiping a kit breaks stuns. Something like that. But let us use toolkit skills to enhance our gameplay within our “rotation”. Not skills to save for the moments we need it.

My advice to the devs is, stop nerfing all there is cried about, build in diversity and synergy within traits. So people can make THEIR choice of skills, without getting punished for it because people cried so much about OPism that only certain builds have a viability in a game mode.

Please improve base virtues

in Guardian

Posted by: Bogus.1598

Bogus.1598

Tbh i think guardians can use a huge buff, not in damage perse but more in cd reduction from skills. If u look at consecration skills, wich are nice but some come with a heft 120s cd, that is way to much for a normal utility skill. If Anet would drop most cd’s by a nice margin skills other then shouts become interresting. Oh and remove consecration skills from the virtues tree, cause imo it is out of place there.

Talking about virtues, they could use a serious buff, virtue of justice could get a damage buff, or maybe a damage nerf but with a longer duration on activate instead of adding 1!!!! sec to a effect. that is close to nothing. increase the passive healing is a good idea too, as well of reducing the cd of that virtue by half. that way u will use it more often and the impact will be bigger when u do. And about the aegis virtue, reduce the cd by a half too. Also with the apply part. This gives guardians a more guardian feel.

If a net would apply the changes i mentioned above, guardians would get a serious buff on all guardian fronts, wich would make them more usefull in most game modes.
Its weird to get a new expansion and having a raid where u dont need the uber protection class of the game. Make guardians better at what they should be able to do. Guard and protect.

Role for Ele's in raids?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Bogus.1598

Bogus.1598

Raids work best when everyone is maximising their potential. This usually means dedicated DPS, tank, and healer. Hybrids SOMETIMES work, but it is rare. The 10 man limit might mean a hybrid dps/healer is viable, but that will most likely be a druid.

I gotta say, last time i checked in the beta test weekend i noticed a good amount of dps, mostly in the form of sustain due to elemental overloads. I was running a S/Wh combo with fresh air and while i used cele trinkets and accesoires, i used berserker amu and armor, my damage was good enough to solo elites in SW. The fight went smooth and i had no trouble surviving and i never felt my dps was low. There was a good amount of sustain instead of periods of burst and periods of no or almost no damage. I think tempest will fill the roll of dedicated dps, with support through aura’s, fields and blast finishers. Dont forget with scepter/warhorn we can deal damage while moving, specially in overloads. Although the tempest needs fine tuning, i do think we fill a spot in the raid.

While i was sceptical when i heard about the tempest and saw what the mechanics where, the feel while playing last weekend was really good. But thats just imho.
Cheers.

All rolls. That what an ele is the all type class.

Where are you from?

Where is that question from?

I see him post a lot, and it seems he is on the US servers. But his posts are always pseudo-gibberish, even though he seems to understand exactly what others are saying.

Anyway, on topic: I did not see a role for eles in that one raid fight. Warhorn and overloads would especially fail, due to the movement.

I think tempest shines with movement, shouts are on short activation times, warhorn water gives a traveling orb and a traveling wave, so all u have to watch is your direction and your allies, water attunement, u can move in it so that field follows u. Same for all other Overloads. I think a cele/sinister or zerker ele is one of the best things u can have at that fight. Is it for kiting or damage/healing its just an awesome All rounder. But thats just me.

OVERLOADS:

Make it so you can dodge while its active.

Make the stability pulse every second= Seriously OP.

Maybe make gaining an aura mandatory on overloading, this way Unstable Conduit can be made into a aura enhanced trait, maybe increasing aura’s for 2 seconds?

It still locks you out of your spells as it currently does: True but it is a attunement overload so extra powerfull u get a lot from it.

Reduce the waittime and the cooldowns of the overloads:
I would say 2 to 3 sec waittime and 12-14 sec cooldown max: Agree

FIRE:

Make the tornado around you destroy projectiles.

EARTH:
In addition, while overloading earth will make you gain Obsidean flesh (the earth focus #5 ability): No, too OP.

LIGHTNING:
In addition, when you start the overload you will gain shocking aura= Think this will be too OP, specially with fresh air builds.

WATER:
This overload just doesnt work for its purpose.
You cannot wait 5 seconds till the overload is ready, so that you can cleanse conditions.

Conditions need to be cleansed the moment they are applied.
You cannot predict that conditions need cleansing right after 5 seconds,
unless a scenario is scripted.
You cannot set camp in water attunement after the 5 seconds waittime, till conditions need cleansing. You cant keep waiting in there.

So either this overload needs to be instant/1 second waittime, or the condition cleansing needs to be put somewhere else in the tempest play.
On other water spells/utility through a trait for example.

I agree on most of the above, condition clearing is lackluster on tempest specially without water. On the other hand, u remove 4 conditions with the attunement, where other classes have to use utility slots for that.

The tempest Elite Rebound spell:
The heal needs to be a lot larger, otherwise you basically die on the hit you take after rebound.
Aye, it is an elite spell, it should have that Oomph that u expect. Maybe make it so that Rebound gives 100 endurance at the end as well…so u have more dodges to get out of trouble…

Those are my 2 cents, hope the dev picks it up.

Note that this build lacks condi removal. But honestly i dont mind it at all. In condi damage battles i use the condi removal mantra or null field.

Its not the best build out there but its FUN for me, i get reasonable amounts of interrupts wich grant quickness and a lot of might on large groups.

The greatsword is good for trash and lots of aoe and cc/interrupts.
The staff is good for defense and chaos armor. Specially in the Silverwastes

I usually use this build for pve open world and dungeons.

Well i understand i need to use kits, ofcourse i did that. But to be honest, i dont think a class needs to be forced into using kits. Its something u want to do, not forced to do to have a FLUENT experience. My experience wasnt fluid, it was harsh and there was a big wall i had to climb before i had the enthusiasm to play again. Thats the reason i ask for a buff to our base weapons. Not because i dont like the kits, but because u should be able to level up the way u want to, if u want to use pistols and rifle thats fine, but give them a little buff so i goes a little more Fluent. That would made my own experience a better one, and ofcourse the experience of future engineers. We are a awsome class, let others enjoy it as well by giving them a better experience.

Thanks all, for reading, replieing and mature response.

#insanemaniac, ive tried multiple builds, searched for leveling guides but in the end i always felt main weapons were lacking, and with that my own enthusiasm for the class. I want a better experience for future players, and i think a main weapon buff fits that.

Dear Anet (and readers), ive been leveling a engineer, and a few days ago, i reached level 80 with my engineer. To be honest, it took me a year. And not because i played so less, but mostly because the class felt “weak” in terms in damage. Im not talking about the treat system, that is a whole other subject. But im talking about damage done by our pistol and rifle skills. These are lacking, and in a big way. Leveling wise and maybe a little bit at end game they can use a buff. I think the damage from pistol should go up with 50% and rifle with 25%. Why those percentages? Mainly because i think the philosofy that u can build your character the way YOU want too isnt working for the engineer now. If leveling and focussing on power and precision and using pistol skills u need more then 2 rotations to get the oponent down. The damage isnt up to par with other classes i think and noticed with experience leveling other classes. Please look into this and buff the class so other people dont get discouraged with the engineer while leveling.

I hope more people support this treat. Thanks for reading and happy engineering! Its a very very nice class.
