I don’t want to completely ruin the surprise but you should hear something big from us in the coming weeks about this very topic.
I don’t want to disclose the whole thing with just a few words, because that all there was. So you wouldn’t be utterly disappointed a few weeks too early and we would have enough time to figure out some new “big things coming” scam to keep your hope up. When we have figured that out, which would be in a few weeks, we will let you know of this miniscule change that hopefully we will have an idea of by then.

I have lost count how many threads have been made regarding skill delay/lag. Anet have stated it is a server side issue and that they are working to resolve it, Personally I don’t think they know how to.
It does seem to be getting worse with every patch and really NEEDS addressing.
it’s not the same. what a lot of people had been experiencing was a new zoning lag that came with the latest patch. They had divided WVW maps into smaller zones and probably had different sets of clusters handling each area.
Lag happened when players crossed the boundaries between these zones. Lots of delay even when there was only a few players rendered to each other. To make matter worse, these areas happened to be where players fight, it’s just a clusterkitten originated from a wrong concept.
For all we know, it was ok how packets were handled before the most recent patches, except for the map-wide skill lag when hundreds of people were within a same area, such as SM, keep and garrison fights. That was the issue they tried to solve, and their efforts so far had just made things worse.
WvW had too high a population cap. It was designed beyond what Anet’s hardwares were capable of handling. yet all the maps were laid out according to population parameters within the original design.
After almost a year kittening around with this, the company should haven realized its hardware limits, 60 players on each side isn’t going to happen. It would become COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE for these 180 players, and that traffic jam would ALWAYS affect the entire map.
People playing this game for WvW need to realize that this lag problem will fix itself. Players are leaving and population is declining. Eventually lag will go away just because how few players there were, and that’s when map layout will arise as the new problem because they were all designed for 60vs60vs60.
PvE players and sPvP players will continue, although that number will also drop due to the shrinking of WvW, less friends to play always result in less playing.
If WvW was 40vs40vs40. say 50 cap for each server, smaller maps but 1 more set. It would had been perfectly OK, and it would had really been an achievement if it was lag free. Even blizzard/activision couldn’t handle more than that….
only those that didn’t know how to utilize stealth properly would ever come to the conclusion that thieves without stealth would be ok.
it’s like going from a damascus steel blade to a wooden dagger, and there’s no magical property that make the wooden kitten hard as steel. You can say you were just as good with it, but the people that would buy such kitten are not my kind of people.
On JQ. impossible to play. Around overlook (we’re red) it seemed ok, possibly due to the fact JQ population on EB isn’t at the max. Anywhere from Mendons-Ogrewatch southward I can’t do kitten. Varies between mini lag and massive delay (sometimes over 1s), can’t finish combo or dodge AoE.
Yep. I ran 3 up to 80 in WvW at release. None was a thief and I never grouped. There was no problem finding 1v1 and 1v2 action against a varity of classes. Now you will always find a thief. Even started one myself but deleted it. I still feel tainted though.
Do you play alot of BL maps?
Due to the longer voyages on BL maps, classes with better mobility, such as thieves and d/d eles are more popular. I don’t think such was the case with EB.
Thieves don’t usually like to 1v1 other thieves, due to the high potential of one side leaving the fight. In other words, the fact there are lots of thieves roaming meant there are plenty roaming players on other classes for them to fight against.
20-25 member per map is a lot
You guys realized we only had that luxury on JQ when FoO was around, and only over weekday asian hours?
What we had was bunch of small guilds that could start a 5 men group, and pugs would turn those into sizable zergs. EB channel on our public TS never had more than a few guys in,. JQ held 1st all those time with pure population, of unorganized pugs.
For a bit, we also had some cherrypicker guilds/individuals that took advantage of the situation, by promoted their own/themselves (unsupported or have 2 or 3 guild members with them) and leading pugs with mapchat. These “guilds” like PvP, Ge, Omen, WARD… They rarely field more than a group of players, no TS even between their own members, 20-25 member per map is really astronomical number compared to those.
JQ needs WvW guilds, not just individuals. We have a substantial population, what we lacked is large groups of players that played together, on WvW maps.
If you were talented individual player that wanted to find organized gameplay on a T1 server, then unfortunately, JQ would not be the right choice for you. We have many many small guilds that would put out 2-5 men groups, but these small groups unorganized beyond group level cannot turn the tide.
WvW guilds, frequently run raids of 20+ players, that what JQ wants. No matter how many under 80 you bring, regardless how undergeared or bad your 80s were. Our pugs will fill your zerg, make it bigger, stronger, deadlier.
start playing suicide bomber toons (dps guard and signet war). At least you’ll get some ez kills each bomb run, beats hitting a trap and not kill kitten before getting gangbanged.
I know this might be difficult to grasp but stealth is not a thief’s F# ability. It is not the thief’s equivalent to virtues, or adrenaline, or pet.

there is no magic buttons in this game. Majority of escapes and cc are not related to the F buttons.

Well if you say that removing stealth from a thief will help thief players l2p, you have no clue on how MMOs work, thieves are just a high damage class and their only defensive mechanism is stealth…
Stealth, and shadowstep! Two defensive mechanisms. Their two defensive mechanisms is stealth, shadowstep, and evasions. Three! Three defensive mechanisms!
what class doesn’t dodge?
how many classes can’t trait into benefits from dodge?
how does regen and removal on dodge compare to 1 more dodge every 3?
why would dodge be counted as a thief specific defensive mechanism?

how about the fact we have 1 garbage elite cc? No stun no fear and 1 immob on a useless kitten weapon.
Trap doesn’t prevent you from attacking / dodging / healing, just no stealth. So for 30 sec thieves have to l2p like the rest of us non-stealthers.
with no removal, blocking, regen, immunity or pet support, and with about half the hp stats. Ya man, srsly l2 kitten ue here…
on a more serious note, we are the best class to place these traps. We can build it in their faces without them knowing.
we can go all out and stealth place traps whenever possible, make this backfire on them. it should also end thief-mesmer duels faster. If I had hit a trap, I’m running anyway.

Maguuma Commanders get 20+ levels a day doing 6 hour runs. I think OP isn’t standing in the capture circles when claiming a tower or guard post, or killing any players.

20 lvls is 100k wxp, in 6 hours we talking about 17k (yes, 17,000) wxp per hour, and each tower cap gives 150. That’s 113 towers an hour for 6 hours, every day…
Did you know that the thief can spam Cluster Bomb to get 25 stacks of might to the entire party or heal the entire party with water field?
thieves have more utility than a warrior
just because you can blast finish waterfield doesn’t mean kitten, you can’t produce a kitten waterfield can you? Finishing other people’s fields and call that what you bring to the table EL OH EL…
wars can give perma fury, that alone is more than a thief as much as dps concern. Not to mention they do twice the amount of dmg IN AOE, banners, condi removal (for the team, not just himself) through soldier rune, invul tanking, and that thing called a rez banner…

@Brass it is all how you define single target dmg…is it DPS? or single hit ? or sustainable dmg? either way mesmer wins the ghighest dmg. they are beasts.

Nerf the modifier in regen from 1.56 to 0.8. All classes affected.

As has been pointed out throughout the forums, thieves can also leverage enormous amount of evasion. Some also make good use of blinds and interrupts. Stealth is not the “only” defense nor is it the “primary” defense in all thief builds.
how many evades we get, how much more than other classes?
just because there’s more ways of mitgating dmg than stealth and get away doesn’t mean they measure up to anywhere near the defensive contribution of stealth.

It can’t “directly single-out thieves” when Thieves are not the only class that makes use of stealth.
but thieves contribute to more stealth than all the other classes combined. This had been pointed out to YOU over and over on multiple threads.

Anti-stealth has STRATEGIC qualities. As does anti-supply.
you can say that to anything. The fact is, anti stealth targets this one class, and anti supply doesn’t.

ArenaNet has never put items in the game for people to pay gold for to counter specific classes. When people were so much as using karma to gain generic advantages in WvW, they nipped that.

Mesmers got a 50% confusion nerf, that hit us hard as well as the stealth debuff.
We both were badly effected. I do wish they would nerf warrior HB though.

Yes, guardians have a ton of blocks. Other classes are affected by them but you don’t see them complaining about it.Furthermore, if you guys would use sword+dagger as a weapon set, you could steal that aegis and laugh. You’d probably steal another boon with it too since some Guardians can’t so much as wipe their butt without a boon popping up somewhere ;-)

Probably around 50% of roamers are thieves.
Go in WvWvW use Fraps and show me your 50% Thieves. I am in four guild (2x pvp guilds with150+ online players) Thieves are barely 5% of the population of this guilds.
But of course you’re right WvWvW is full of Thiefs sarcasm

additionally, other than a 30/30 ele, nothing gets nearly as much heal and removal as a guard.
a 30s cd 8k heal that passively removes 1 every 10s
you can (and most guards do) trait for 1 extra removal every 10s
2 meditation skills that give you another 1 removal per 10s (on average)
all meditation utilities can be traited to give almost 2500 heal each (instant), and 3 of them (the 3 that people use) are under 60s cd, with smite condition having only 20s cd being the extreme.
dodges heal (just like an ele)
trait to get 630 heal on removal of aegis, that applies every 10s
symbol heals
that’s not even counting bunkers’ healing major traits and virtue of courage (which is benefited again by renewal of course)

- Utility: Retreat!
- Virtue: Virtue of Courage
- Trait: Protective Reviver (you and the ally you revive)
- Trait: Valorous Defense (when your health reaches 50%).
That’s not many sources.
that’s 4 blocks per minute with renewal, and without counting reviver trait.
add 3 blocks per 45 sec from shield of wrath, you are getting more than 1 block every 10 sec.

Dolyaks on route are like honey badgers. They dont give a crap no matter whats hitting them, they just keep on walking.

little damage,but when you kill them, they rally your downed players giving you a number advantage….
Or you’re in a solo/small group fight and manage to down the other players, but then up-leveled players on your team run in and get themselves killed giving out free rallies to the enemies and allowing them to kill you. This has happened to me so much at this point that when up-leveled run into small group fights I just stay back and let them all get slaughtered first before engaging.
If you see 2 and one had green arrow, down the 80 first. The upleveled would usually stick around in hope of free xp, and sometime try to rez the 80 when realized he was kittened.
Green arrows needs to go and we need a WvW player rank tracker for allies. So remove the arrow and replace character level number for WvW player rank in WvW.
