Now, I have to disagree with the post. I hated pvp in GW1. GW2’s pvp is much better. Why? In GW1, you’d have to wait for hours just to get a team, and there is something that I called the rank paradox. If you want to win, you must have a good team. If you want a good team, you must have high rank. If you want high rank, you must win. I only won two games, if even that, thanks to the rank paradox. How is that any fun?

Now, to answer your question, more skills and builds.

PvP in GW1 died years before the GW2 release, so I expect you joined that party a bit late. It has been a swamp for Elitiest Trolls for years now. But it did really shine in its day, as the OP indicated.

I did and do much prefer the build system in GW1, so much more variety; but the devs seem have moved decisiely way from it; there were always real “Balance Problems” with the game as players would find unexpected combos that would produce a massively overpowered Class Build; like the SoS Rit. Also way late in the day the devs finally realized PvP and PvE are not the same game and finally started updating skills for each seperately so PvE players would not be punished for PvP exploits. Wish the Devs would remember that lesson they seem to have lost that realization in GW2.

The reason your so good at Fractals is you have done them many, many times.
If you want to play with other high level players, just put that in your LFG post; but remember the only way new players coming into the game are going to get GUD as elites like to put it; is to put in those reps themselves.

One would hope you would seize the opportunity to help others learn what you now know. After all ….

If I might add a couple myself. –
1. I have been playing a lot of Tera Lately, It would be really nice to be able to Bind the Mouse buttons to Alt or Shift as I can in other games. Honestly for me the Ideal situation I would bind all my attacks to the mouse.

2. I’ve really had a great time the last few days playing their Gunner Class; I don’t get nearly the same Satisfaction from my Ele, and I would very much like to be able to Trait for a Marksmen Ranger with no pet; as My Prime in GW1 has always been.

I’m sure someone out there will “correct” me; but I have never felt like I have a real Ranged DPS option in this game. So my Prime has become my War; A class I do not play in any other game. C.

I know, I know, then players like me will be bypassing alot of the content. Yes exactly. I’ve played this game off and on 3 years now; I feel exactly the same about them I did the first time I plummeted to a pointless and painful death.

I Loathe them.

I’ve rolled a Warrior, and Ele, and a few other I hardly play. Never rolled a jumping bean; would not. For myself at least any RPG is about combat, taking on and Taking down the biggest baddest mobs I can solo.

I dont play MMOs to engage in problem solving, I do enough of that at work thankyou; but in order to get credit for clearing a zone. I am forced to do this thing I Loathe, quite sure Im not the only person that loathes it. and the people that like JPs. Im sure they are out there, though I cant imagaine why. They dont have to deploy their glider ever.

Please consider relenting on this one, it adds nothing to the game. Its just another arbitrary and artifical problem with an equally arbitrary solution. Personally cant imagine anyone reaching the end of one of these things and saying. kitten I enjoyed that…

Relief is not enjoying. Saying thank god that is over with is not an expression of enjoyment only relief. Ie Its just not fun. Never was, never will be. And should games not be fun, no? Ty for your time.

Disappointed: As I Would very much liked to have our speed increased, we must trait Discipline, or carry the otherwise useless, IMHO, warhorn just to keep up with a party. I really don’t like spamming Signet of Rage on the run given its long cool down; I might just need it in the fight.

Disappointed myself, Definitely will play test it before coming to a final conclusion but I think 30-35% tops would be useful; at 50% its going to fire too soon too randomly.

As per, the Devs tendency to see a problem and overcorrect seems to be intact. Never use a light touch when a hammer’s at hand eh?

Idk, getting ascended rings are easy from 1-20 fractals and you can get an ascended necklace for like 30g (Vial of Salt). If you want, you can buy the gold to get one of the MF Ascended backpacks and get ascended trinkets from logging on a couple hours when your guild is doing guild missions. Thats like 30 AR right there without any armor.

You can attune the rings without needed any condensed essence and slap a couple 9-11 agony infusions in them for cheap.

And then theres the AR potion from the vendor and mistlock singularities thats practically enough to do up to level 50 fractals. Theres also always the chance to get infused rings from the level 21-50 dailies, in that case you dont need any essence at all.

Maybe so, I find everything to do with AR Utterly confusing, but it all seems to loop on itself thus Dev22. You are correct I find, that you can craft without the vial essense, but you need 1,600,000 xp won in fractals, again Dev22; cant get it if you don’t have it. Hey but whats could be more fun than Locking the Key to the Treasure behind the Vault door. then watch the players beat their collective heads against said door!

Please consider making Condensed Mists Essence a tradable commodity. As things stand, you cant do Fractals without AR, but you can’t get AR without doing Fractals. A typical A-Net Dev22 situation,

My guild does Fractals pretty regularly and I would very like to lend a hand, but given the current situation I might have enough AR to useful sometime in the year 3000.

I have no problem with letting the people that live in game farm such things and comping them in gold for their time and expertise, but that’s not realistic option for me. I would be happy to be able to get a reasonable amount in the gem store; but the current situation is just insanely time prohibitive.

I’ve never been mistaken for an Elite, Likely never will. If Raids are Elite Only, np.
I’m loveing my Dragon updates, more please. Loving my Glider, and I doubt I’ll ever bother getting up to lv 2; Bought HoT, have Glider, done with HoT. Would love to see decent loot in Dungeons again; why should I Dungeon when I can make Much more gold on the world boss circuit? and believe me I do, I have friends/Guild Mates who love Dungeons so I go, to explore, to see good maps to be a good guild mate; but its not profitable. I dont go a day without wanting to whallop a (Virtual) Dev with my Mace.

One thing I would say, Devs please stop herding us towards new content; (Say HoT, Raids) new is draw enough for most, dont punish those of us happy where we are for not following the herd. But the game has players of all stripes, and needs content for all stripes. Ok one for the elites, maybe something for the rest of us. Jormag Rework maybe?

Acually more swarms like the herds of spiders in AC or Arah, against reasonably even numbers the war has np, but pve your pretty routinely heavily outnumbered. Thanks Much C.

enjoy your suboptimal runs, nobody is stopping you.

About 3Days ago a small group and players and I failed at JClaw. I had just got home from work 7AM or so and just jumped into game for 30 min to wind down.

Anyhow for that 30 min, we where all running, shooting, battling, Rezing one an other, we at the end got JClaw down to about 5% so we just missed.

Best Time I’ve ever had in game, just an awesome fight. Sub optimal sure we failed, but Fun. So you enjoy your Optimized Grinds, and I’ll do what I can to suggest to the Devs things to inject life and fun into the game.

Beyond that we’ll just have to agree to disagree. C.

I’m replying more to the “Grindy” thread that was merged with the OP of this one, but I strongly suggest the Dev’s take the time to view at least the first few minutes of the linked Video; where in 3 very advanced and capable players are discussing their current dissatisfaction with the Grind they feel the game has become.

Now personally I don’t agree with all their points, but I think they are all worth a listen. C.

If you want to move away from the stacking meta (what mode are we even talking about? WvW? Fractals?).

Its most obvious in Dungeons, and after that I would think Fractals, but even open world you do see it at boss events. Also I think a return to a more dynamic play style would increase the player base still participating in dungeons.

I would normally agree with you, but I don’t see this as Punishing players, I do see it as presenting the players with a choice, they can pack themselves in like a Phalanx, but there is a price to be paid for that packing, or they can spread themselves out minimally, and avoid the cost.

Yes it does, I was presenting what surely is not that uncommon a hypothetical as there are only 3 Armor classes in the game, prefix aside.

Most boss fights involve plenty of AoEs from the boss already, what difference is splash damage going to make? Higher damage?

Exactly, you will amp your output by stacking might and other boons, but you will in return have to soak up a little more punishment yourself. As to Multiple Melee toons, As I said originally, this is about players occupying the same space on the map, Im sure the Devs have some Mechanism, Im guessing a hex map, that determines just where you are, on the map.

I do think that responders may be think of the AoE of the splash damage I am proposing as a good bit larger than I am thinking. Lets say a War and a Guardian are encircling a Mob, they would not be on the same space and so incure no penalty; but if your toon is overlapping his toon, then yes, IMHO, you should be risk taking damage when his toon is targeted; your right there after all. On the one hand its a pretty simple collision detection, but obviously we have a huge pool of players; so the Dev’s might test the idea in Dungeons first; where the instanced content would minimize the problem of scaling the idea up for open world.

Finally as to the concept the Change will open the door for griefing, of course it will; to an extent Im sure Im being seen as griefing here; but the player base griefs virtually every change implemented. My proposal at least would give players an incentive to move the play style back toward the fluid system the Dev’s obviously originally intended.

I still play GW1, I definately prefer its buiild system,to having ones build largely dictated by weapon; both games have a place, GW1 can definatly feel lonely now if your not part of an established active guild. (I am lucky that way.)

But sometimes its just fun to stand there spamming whirling D. and watching Hoards of Destroyers fall.

I would like to suggest to the Dev’s Considering adding some sort of splash Damage Mechanic that would affect all toons standing on the same underlying “Hex” on the movement map. Splash Damage should apply to all Elemental and Most Physical Damage. After all a Blocked Arrow or Axe blade does not cease to exist. So a War might block said blade deflecting it into the squishy Ele standing right atop of them.

This and having player characters body block one an other so say each toon takes up half the available space at any given point allowing players to still move through on an other, but limiting the number of players at any given point on the map. This should break the current meta for stacking.

The combat system of this game was intended to revolve around a fluid, movement centered system, not piles of players stacking might. I believe these small changes would help move players back towards that vision; which in my humble opinion would be much better for the game.

Lastly, The human sense of smell is pretty Minimal, but most animals have far more powerful capabilities in that way, allowing non-human mobs to “smell” players hiding just beyond a corner, but well with-in agro range would again allow players a certain amount of protection from the terrain, but not allow them to spoof the AI. Where the mob should be well aware players are there, but where the LOS is broken.

My personal bias is normally strongly against punishing players for figuring out how to maximize their Toons, or Classes power in a way unanticipated by the Dev’s but personally I think the current situation is just ridiculous. C.

It’s the most grindy game I’ ever played. Almost everything top level in this game take either massive luck, lot of money or massive amount of time to get. And the most terrible thing is almost none of those require any amount of skill.

The game is very grindy, everything A-net touches is, to an extent players seem to expect this, immersion is an important part of the MMO. And for Open world PvE you should never have huge problems, with a properly runed toon.

That said you wont survive 5 minutes in fractals without ascended gear, the anguish mechanic sees to that, and good luck finding a dungeon group if your not totally plugged into the Zerker Meta, Level 80 and know to the Pixel just where to (barf) stack.

MMO gamers I think have a very different view of casual, than players of other games, and this from someone with +2000 hours in GW1; but I play to take a break from life, and job, and all that; not because I need a 2nd job. Personally, I very much agree with you; but I am not at all suprised; I am in the Minority.

At the end of the day the Game was developed by Elites, for Elites, and the cries of Anguish that go up when any change steps back from that (economically suicidal) meta, tells me this will not change anytime soon. The Elites are very vocal, and by definition most of use more casual players are not. Happy Hunting. C.

Some sort of splash damage Mechanic that would apply to Elemental and most Physical damage; when an arrow is blocked it goes somewhere. So every player on the same hex underlying the map would take damage. This would introduce a price to be paid for Player stacking, without just nerfing its advantages. The game was clearly intended to have a dynamic movement based combat system; and it would be nice to see the balance restored in that direction. GW1 had several splash damage skills splinterweapon, chain lightening amoung them, so the model is there to adapt to GW2.

Oh dear, seems the OP might be ahead of the curve, Do I see 3 guys slipping in the back door.

To the OP – I suggest for now, Shaman’s or Magi Armor; with the Magi the raised precision will mean a higher chance to crit so when you do hit the damage should be more significant over all; and you might reconsider your position on Boons; at the end of the Day, Prot is at least as important as heals.

Agree with those. Excellent suggestions and after only three months of playing! I can’t remember offering anything that constructive after three months. I think I complained about some stupid thing.

I have actually been thinking about this one, now that you mention it. I don’t know how to make this the best way though, maybe rightclicking a slot containing an item “binding” the slot to the item. If another item is manually put in that slot the bind is gone. Altho other items don’t appear in this slot automatically unless there is no other available slot? The problem is when swapping from sword/sword (for example) with a 2-hander. The offhand appear in the first available slot while the main hand just replace the 2-hander.

Excellent Idea, and probablly simpler to implement, hope the devs pick it up.C.

Some people like the monks role and wish it had not been stripped from the game. I looked hard for a HP/T/V set myself a while back as I spend a lot of time at Dragon Events spamming Healing. My small contribution to the 100 other people flinging fireballs and Arrows feels pretty pointless; but Rushing about spamming Healing and rezing people has been great fun; and for myself could honestly care less if I get credit for the event. 99% of what I get winds up salvaged anyway and tossed in the mats bank never to see the light of day again. I play to enjoy the game, don’t much care how much play money I have at all really.

I’ll never get the Elitist no life meta mindset; What a fun game Everyone can be a Serker War because that’s the only Viable thing, and we can all wear Armor that looks exactly alike. In fact the Devs would not even need players. NPCs would be fine for all that.

Hey here is just an Amazing Idea, let the OP enjoy the game has s/he likes; and not bash him for not being meta.

Mob Respawn times,
As a returning player I had hoped this would have been adressed, it certainly seemed more of an issue when I logged off, still. It seems ridiculous that I should kill a mob guarding a given vista and be under attack by the same mob before the cin stops playing.

Killing the same mobs over and over becomes quite tedious. The very first time I logged on I thought game was bugged because I wound up killing the same 3 centaurs for maybe 20 minutes. It was only later I found out, no, no bug; I had not followed the script and so was just standing on that spawn point and would never run out of Uglies. Personally I think event specific mobs should only spawn once per event instance even if that means making them much tougher.

damage question

Your counter to Conditions is a combo of high Vitality and healing Power + Regen.

The idea is to stack high Health Pools so that you can outlive a Condi Burst, Cleanse, and react. Since Cleanse is rather limited on most classes (Except Ele and Guard) Regen is a stop gap for everyone else. Also the Regen helps with classes that just reapply condi after condi.

This speaks to a question I’ve had myself, but it seems to me, healing power has very little in fight impact; of course I may just be spec’d wrong there.

And as an Ele I do cycle water, and cast my staffs to area heals on myself or my party; but Im likely to loose those points gained almost as fast as the original cast time, and the cool downs are really long. I Would appreciate a little more info link or otherwise on how to optimise in fight regen.

So far the best cure for Condi I have found is Kill the Necro, but given the games really short respawn times, even that only does so much good. C.

Weapons slots, like the GW1 Equip Pack; it would be nice when I swap from Staff to DD, back to Staff my daggers returned to where they belong vs having that space now occupied by a claw, or some other spam drop. Being able to designate one bag as weapons only; or no loot so cons might be stored as well, would be very nice, no?

So More freedom of “movement” where build is concerned? I would have to agree with that, the less the game caters to a tiny minority of elitist players; and more to more Filthy Casuals (like me : ), but seriously it is a game at the end of the day and no-one should ever be insulted because they choose a style of play outside the Meta. C.

Thanks much all good Ideas, I mostly run Staff/DD 60/40 but I have been hearing good things about Scepter/Focus and have been considering giving the set another try. : )

My troubles have mostly been in Necro heavy area’s so it seems to be what my GW1 tuned brain thinks of as Shadow Damage. TY Again. C.

Two things,
A little survivablity, I don’t mind loosing a fight, but I like to feel I’ve been in it. If some Elite or Champion mob supposedly my level or less; just one shots me. Or cannot be hit, thats no fun. I was in AC the other day; and Just could not move the needle on this Lv 30 Monk. Open world I might with the same build blast 6Lv 50s to Hades in one go; but Monkly was totally bullet proof.

The other as little arbitrary nonsense as possible. Like in CM, that point where there is no way to damage that spindly little rocket launcher; but for to use an Air Rifle that just happens to be left near to hand; to send the missles back. Whaaaa, Whyyyy?

Or having to light a Brasiur or burn a spider web with a specific magic torch; even though I am running a fire Ele and Im all about nothing but fire. I can see having the torch available to some melee type who does not have access to fire but let us use our own ablities devs.

I’m a returning player, and a Huge part of why I took the 2 year lay off was the huge amount of Arbitrary nonsense in the game. Im a simple soul really; All I want Is a Good Solid Axe and a Jotun whose thick skull it needs planting in. : ) C.

Ele vs Degen

My Primary is an Ele with Full Soldier’s gear, PVT, and Superior Melandru Runes +V+T; which I’m quite happy with 80% of the time. I simply don’t have the dexerity to make full onZerker work for me, bouncing around like a jack rabbit on meth.

Anyhow I need a Alternate armor set I can swap to In High Degen zones, and I am not sure If a Highter Vitality Prime or Healing Prime would be best … So your thoughts on best armor set when facing large amounts of Armor bypassing Damage. C.

I would very much like to place an order for 12 Furious Sharpening Stones.
but as there are none in stock at the moment at the Black Lion; so there seems to be no way I can find to input that order.

Can’t say I would blame anyone for that, the Mats cost 33 Silver and the Wiki says the price is 66copper. Oh yea; go broke in a min. I would place the order for a reasonable price for the smith to make a decent profit. But I just don’t see how. C.

Nag Screens

I logged on for the First time in 3 months to say, Hi and wish a Happy Thanksgiving to some Guildies; and I am bombarded by Nag Screens,

Informing me I have an Item with unassigned Stats, the nag screen is not linked to the offending item, and after a dozen scans I cant find it; but the nag is relentless. Maybe you could link your nag screen to the offending item, there’s a suggestion.

Another constantly pops up, Alerting me to my new Wallet, others still, bombarding me with other bits of ‘useful’ information. I have not played this game in 3 months, and after just 10 minutes on line I am so frustrated as to be painfully reminded just why that is so,

So here is a suggestion, maybe during what’s left of this Holiday season, you might dial back the Nag screens. I’m sure I wont be the only returning player who wants to say hi to some old friends; it would be nice to be able to connect with your players without being bombarded by alerts, tips, and other bits of ‘useful’ information.

If I may…
I much prefer to play a Magi, Archer other ranged class; and I’m awful at melee; and yet my poor mishandled War is so much more effective than my Mage;

As Magi we are not the DPS bombs we could be in GW1 and other games, because the Devs wanted to get away from the Holy Trinity; but we got to keep having the lowest Armor and HP pool in the game; so we retain all our weaknesses and sacrifice all our traditional strengths and this makes the game better balanced; not.

I’m sorry I don’t believe the Criticisms are all sour grapes; again I should not outperform my favorite class across games, playing a melee class I usually suck with; the Devs simply did not get that balance right. One thing I will say, GW2 is much better played with a Partner than solo as a general rule and doubly soo for the Ele, if you have a freindly war who can soak up some of the Agg for you; the class works a lot better.

Personally one of the things that drew me to the game was the promise that a player would have maximum flexibility. As described in their pre-launch manifesto.

Excuse me for feeling all I have seen since first logging on is the Devs moving steadily away from that vision; and the constant reliance on focus/quest objects is IMHO just perfectly emblematic of what I’m saying.

Ty, glad you enjoyed it really. It’s not the specific content that irks me; its the constantly taking a player class skills out of ones hands and stuffing some new alien toy/skill bar in them. Why roll a class at all; when we are all nothing more than Focus operators; the next toy some dev dreams up.

Personally I would much prefer if we had to find creative uses for our given class skills; maybe a given mission needs an Ele to rock a door open with earth magic, or a Mes to port some place; but no the solution is always in some wierd never seen before or since toy; and personally I never like it when the devs take my staff or sword from my hands and shove something else in them. I expect I cannot be alone in this.

Dear Dev’s,
Went to your Bizzare yesterday, went to the first door, it was of course blocked; a helpful player pointed out to me that I had to use skill 2; at which point I realized that you hadsurreptitiously removed my skill bar and substituted your own. as you so love to do;

I turned around and went back to LA; because quite frankly I’m sick to death of that; sick to death of having my skills replaced, by some quest object or toy; sick to death of your obsession with reducing the player to an NPC, we all have exactly the same skills, we all jump from exactly the same pixel to exactly the same pixel. on an on and on; we all have to do exactly the same thing; at exactly the same spot; we all have to chase exactly the same achievements.

If I did not know better I would swear you dont much like players as nothing pleases you more than reducing a player to a bot; executing a series of predetermined actions just like a bot; with no choice at all what so ever; so why have players; oh yes NPCs wonderful as they are dont have any money; not a good business model is it …

I have an idea, why have classes at all; just litter your world with umbrella stands; a ‘Player’ if it can be called that, can walk up to the umbrella stand and pick up the skill bar you dictate for each event. You could have stage markers so they would no just where to stand and you could scroll dialog so they would know just what to say; it would almost be like having no players at all; which is to say it would be almost perfect.

Seriously consider it, it seems to be the ultimate evolution of your design philosophy. C.

Dear Dev’s,

One Idea I firmly believe would be to tier your servers; and requiring players to earn their way up the server tree; and more importantly locking higher level players out of the lower level servers

So a Rank 10 Player would have to earn admission to the Rank 20 Servers; but a Rank 80 could never just lay waste to a Rank 40, 50, 60 Server. You would need to use some variation of the Elo System; you have a Dev on staff who is an expert in that; so that should not prove a problem; And as your servers are most likely virtual the number of servers available per rank could be dynamic.

The NFL does not play collage teams, MLB does not play AAA teams, even in Pop Warner foot ball 10 year olds are not pitted against 12 year olds; please show me another field of human endeavor where people rewarded for ‘competing’ against opponents that are clearly below their level of talent or skill; yet in the world of video games that is the norm.

And Please, remove the Grotesque ‘Finish’ Button; Didn’t your momma teach you kicking a man while he’s down is very bad form.

I can’t speak for everyone, I know I’m not speaking for myself alone either. Personally I think PvP is widely just viewed as a bad neighborhood.

Sadly I expect PvP like any bad nieghborhood is largely populated by decent enough folks with only 1 in 10/ 1 in 20 really embracing that Vicious persona; that makes the general population view gamers as one of the most anti social demo’s in the population; where point of fact PvE player are overwhelmingly helpful and sociable.

But 1 in 20 is enough, its enought to ruin the rep or a real nieghborhood; or a cyber one. Most people chose not to live in or travel though a bad neighborhood if they can choose not too; and the Devs can’t code that; that just the human side of the game.

So the next time you shout NOOOOOOB at someone, remember you just invited that person to leave your side of the game, permenantly; so dont complain when your player base does not grow; you cant have that cake and eat it too.

PvE Companions

I doubt the Dev’s will ever honor this request as they are quite hopelessly tied to the fiction that all players will easily find people to group with; despite the large number of posts and threads that clearly state otherwise; and the vast streches of the PvE landscape that are basically empty.

But I have been thinking for some days, I would be a great help if during the escort missions, like Help Reztiff Sunderfoe capture the East Tower, if the NPCs one was helping were something more than useless; I don’t believe I have ever seen a friendly NPC win a fight with a mob unassisted. They are simply and Sadly worse than the Allies in GW1.

Giving the Allies/Companions one encounters in a given mission a small buff might allow players to complete a given bit of content without making sure they are +10 Level over the purported level of the content before trying because if your only help in a mission is Allies, your soloing.

It need not be done all on one monsterous patch, the idea could be play tested in some midlevel zones and spread out slowly if the idea is found to work.

The problem is it regens halfway in the fight, I’ve heard this was not intended so it might be fixed soon.

Yea we have noticed that, and the greater number, or quicker respawn of Champions; As I noted in my first post the time to complete has more than doubled from around 30 min to over 60 in just the last couple weeks; the change was quite noticable and drew a great deal of comment in chat.

Like I said the patch is quite new, no more than a say 10 days old; try it; I think you’ll find its not just our being sad over at Stormbluff Isle. They’ve massively upped the number of champions. I personally got 29 Yesterday and I was not trying to farm them I spent alot of time on the Icesheet, spamming water and rezzing folks.
