i won’t use it even if it worked…never had a single problem with asuras (Actually playing axe/sword on human btw), but if you’re a new one then yeah…that may help..but keep in mind that you usually dodge because you know something is coming not always because you actually see it (Mesmer shatter from stealth for example…or d/p thief backstab combo) so in 90% cases if you can’t dodge something from an asura you won’t dodge that even if it was on human…but at least ppl are gonna have less excuses for eating eviscerates 24/7…(If someone with war, asura or not doesn’t make any difference, is on longbow and he swaps to axe, and you SHOULD know that he has intell sigil and he must eviscerate on the next 3 skills….what do you think he’s gonna do after swapping to axe? million dollars question…) that’s how you dodge eviscerates from any race regardless animations, and this goes with other professions too, if you know what are you fighting against and you track cooldowns you already know what he’s gonna do before he actually does…so long story short…you can get standard models but if you wanna win you’ll need to l2p anyway

I disagree that it’s a skill issue, having optional standardized models would help even the best players, because you won’t always be able to predict an enemy’s actions. In the cases where you have to recognize which skill is being cast, you only need to learn and remember one animation instead of five.

No its still a game mechanics bug. They already fixed the Fiery Rush+teleport. Its just the same when you bug towards a wall. That’s why it doesnt work, while you have a target. This skill should leave a trail behind you, while moving towards. So if you stay in a spot, you should not overstack it. It should only proc once, or nothing at all.

No, they fixed that because after you teleported, you stayed in one spot instead of continuing on with the rush. By design, the skill leaves a trail of fire behind you that does damage, and by running into a wall, you can have the traits of fire overlap. The reason it doesn’t work when you have a target is because there are two parts to the skill, the fiery trail that follows behind you, and the leap if you’re close enough to your target. By allowing the player to choose if they want a target or not, they allow the skill more versatility. You have a problem with the skill because it doesn’t seem balanced, and I completely agree, this skill in particular does need looking at, but I still disagree that it is an exploit or should have any impact on the current tournament.

And i forget to mention that this skill is way to OP, than anything else. The dungeon farmers waiting its cooldown, if they have to, because its still a way faster, to pull a boss or anything to a corner, and just Fiery Rush it, instead of doing anything else.

There are very few groups that will stop and wait for FGS to cooldown to start a boss, it would be a completely unnecessary waste of time to do so, and would be the the antithesis of farming.

This has been brought up time and again, and the general consensus is that this isn’t an exploit, but it is something that will likely be changed in a balance pass. You’re using the skill in a completely intended manner, it just performs better than most other options, albeit on a 180 second cooldown.

Regardless, the existence of some balance issues shouldn’t stop a tournament from taking place. You see where Necromancer currently sits at the highest level of PvP, and they’ve completed one ToL and are about to start another.

And since when, you can’t complete a dungeon at the min level requirement? I know AC can be rough on a level 35, but If you know the dungeon, you can do it. And for all of the other dungeon, there is no problem at all for doing them at the min level.

Each recipe costs a different type of Ascended material, but I highly recommend selling the Bolts of Damask and going with the Leatherworker one instead of the Tailor one, since it costs 15 Elonian Leather instead of 15 Damask, about a 140g price difference.

Your race doesn’t affect your build…

While most of the advice is sound, there are certain racial skills that have some merit in PvE, WvW. Bear Form is quite strong as an elite for dungeons, especially for classes that might not have a better alternative (Ranger benefits from it heavily, especially with traited Signets), Technobabble is a pretty hefty soft CC, and can be used to trigger Perplexity, etc…

They’re definitely not immediate picks, but many have uses if you can find them. Except Healing Seed. Healing Seed is trash.

Rune and heal skill choice

Da Sonic.6521

Ruby Orbs lost a whole lot of value with the Ferocity nerf. Hoelbrak would be a pretty nice improvement if you can give yourself a decent amount of might, but is, in my opinion, decidedly weaker than Strength or Melandru, especially given the fact you’d still be paying 24g for a set.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by :

Is there an easy way to get runes off for ascended gear? I don’t really want to salvage my transmog pieces. Runes are too expensive to buy twice.

There’s no cost effective way to remove runes from armor without destroying the armor. Upgrade Extractors are the only way to do so and they cost a fair amount of gems. Do keep in mind you can reskin any piece of armor to any unlocked skin for a Transmutation Charge, and can get those charges for free by PvPing or starting a new character and doing map completion for starter towns.

Thanks for the reply.

Any more opinions? Scholar looks pretty good.

I always used mending in the past, I guess there are better options now. I’ll need to do some research I guess.

Some more opinions would be appreciated though.

With regards to Scholar, it’s way too hard to stay above 90% health out of PvE, and if you’re above 90% health long enough for it to matter you generally shouldn’t need help winning that fight.
Generally you’ll want a rune set that is always an active bonus, or can help you come back from a losing position. Depending on Sigil and Elite choice (Sigil of Battle or Strength and Signet of Rage), Runes of Strength could function extremely similarly to Scholar runes, but always be active given a might stack, making them a much more consistent choice that helps even if you aren’t topped off on health. Do mind the price, they’re pretty expensive still.

Ogre are a consistent damage increase runeset, Melandru is decent if you need help against conditions.

Burning Condition Stack/Duration

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Da Sonic.6521

Da Sonic.6521

As far as I know (this may be slightly incorrect) it works like this:

Drake’s Breath hits 4 times, if the duration of your Burns is approximately 5 seconds each, then you will stack up 20 seconds of burning over the 2 second cast time, leaving you with 18 seconds of burning.

Burning and every other duration stacking condition or boon has a limit on how many times it can be applied. For burning, this limit is 5. If your Drake’s Breath applies 4 stacks of Burning and you attempt to add more burning with another skill, it will apply one stack of burning (For Burning Speed, like 1 second) and then not have any effect to the burning stack past that until one of the 5 second burns expires.

I went and tested ingame on my Ele, and it does indeed seem to be functioning like I mentioned above. Drake’s Breath hit 4 times, and each time 3 seconds of burning was applied (0 condition duration). With 30% condition duration, each tick lasted 4 seconds, adding up to 16 seconds of burning.

This isnt what the tool tip describes at all, where are you getting your information?

Even if this was correct, I should be seeing 4 stacks of burning, it only shows 1 on the target.

In fact, all it ever shows is 1. And in no way should those stacks inhibit other skills from stacking. This isnt how bleeds work, bleeds stack repeatedly, and the icon as well as the damage reflects this. Bleeds dont just extend the duration, they do more damage per tick. The skill “Churning Earth” has a tool tip of 6 stacks of bleeds. When I cast this, it shows 6 stacks of bleeds, and the duration is exactly the time the tool tip reads. If I use other skills on top of this, the stack size increases, and so does the damage per tick, NOT the duration. I have tested this repeatedly with my elem.

So if what you say is true, what sense does it make to have a 4-5 stack limit on a 18 second duration condition with a 5 second CD skill? You cant use any of your other skills with this now as if you say is correct, a player would have to wait the entire 18 seconds before applying another burn damage condition, even from another skill.

If all the above IS correct, they at least need to fix the tool tip to reflect this, as loopy as it sounds. And RIP my elem, Ill never play it again.

I’m getting my information directly from the tooltip, and from how it functions, and how it has functioned on every skill that applies burning for the last two years.

Not all conditions are exactly the same, and I’m sure you’ll find that if you hover over Burning, the description is “Deals damage every second; stacks duration.”
Bleeds are low damage with the ability to stack.
Poison is low damage with the ability to reduce healing.
Torment is low damage with the ability to deal more to moving targets.
Burning is high damage.
Confusion is medium damage, but requires skill use.

You’ll find each damaging condition has its tradeoffs, some are lower damage and as such take longer to start up (bleed, torment), one has a secondary effect (poison), and
one is readily applicable at full strength (burning).

A stack of burning only shows one “stack” because there simply isn’t enough room on the icon to describe how long each stack is. One stack of burning for 50 seconds functions exactly the same as two stacks of burning for 25 seconds each. While I do agree a counter showing the current active amount of burns stacked would be useful in determining if another application is possible would be helpful, it wouldn’t actually change the function of the skills at all.

Burning never has, and in the current state of affairs, never will stack in intensity. It is simply too strong of a condition to do so, given the frequency that classes like Elementalist, Guardian, and Engineer can apply them. Drake’s Breath alone would be able to maintain 2500 damage per second extremely easily if the condition stacked in intensity.

Can’t confirm that, but I CAN confirm that the achievement is fixed. I got it over the weekend. It’s awarded after the boss reward chest spawns (give it 1 second).

Some details on the fight itself:

1. We killed the Berserker first.

2. I avoided all ground shockwaves by jumping over them. One shockwave went overhead and I stayed on the ground (did not dodge roll through it).

3. I got hit by the Berserker’s melee attack once, and once by the Firestorm’s fire field in phase 2. Neither affected my ability to get the achievement.

So the only thing I can’t confirm is whether you can get the achievement by just remaining totally out of range of the shockwaves (e.g. a Ranger with a 1500 range Longbow).

But basically, if you still need this achievement, you’re OK to go in and try for it again!

Ah, good to know.

Da Sonic.6521

There is easy way to fix the stacking in the corners for Bosses specifically. In Arah P3 the last boss in phase two becomes invulnerable when you pull it to a corner and damage done is reduced to 0.What Anet has to do is implement this to every other boss in dungeons. That way bosses can’t be pulled to the corners and people won’t be able to melt them like butter.

Also by not pulling things to the corners i think people may start actually pay attention to the mechanics. For instance in AC when Kholer is pulled to the corner.A lot of groups just don’t dodge the whirlwind. They get hit by it and go in down state because they just can’t take so much dmg.Why don’t they dodge the spin?I don’t know…The same goes for other bosses too.
The change with spider queen in AC is a good start in my opinion but there is still room to improve.

In the same breath you said that we need to stop players from stacking because they ignore boss mechanics, and that they died because they ignored boss mechanics. You don’t have a problem with the design of the boss, you have a problem with players stacking and not realizing why they’re stacking, and just generally being bad at the game. Clearly the game DOES punish players already for stacking mindlessly, because they’re dying.

I’m also not sure if they changed Arah 3 in the past week, but I’ve been able to bring him to a corner and FGS him down the last 6 times I’ve done it.

The AC Spider Queen wasn’t a change to the corner, a group stacked immediately on top of her in the middle of the room functioned exactly the same, bar the spider babies not coming together (which reflects could deal with). The chance to the Queen was just that she uses her fields in melee range too now, and she dies just as easily in the corner now as she did in the past.

I am so kitten sick of stacking.

It effectively ruins all the dungeon content in the game. No more fighting the boss as it was designed. Nope, gotta all sit in a weird corner watching my cooldowns go off. Oh, and this time it decided to magically not work, so we have to go try it again.

I know all you professional dungeon runners are in love with the idea of cheesing down content to get it done faster, but for all of us that actually enjoy fighting bosses and doing PvE content, stacking is killing our love for this game.

I just have to wonder why ANet lets this kind of thing go. Why are they just enabling their playerbase to just cheat their way through dungeons? Doesn’t that go against everything game designers and developers are supposed to stand for?

I don’t know. I’m just so kitten sick of cheesing my way through every bit of content in this game.

“Magically not work” he says.

Sounds like someone who has no idea why people stack.

I’ve stacked perfectly multiple times in a row and sometimes it just doesn’t work. That’s probably the worst part. If it worked 100% every time I’d understand but basically people are gambling on the system breaking and sometimes that doesn’t happen and the boss creams you because, guess what, you’re all just standing in one spot.

You know, like what’s supposed to happen.

Explain to us why groups stack:

hint #1 – it’s nothing to do with exploiting bosses.

Oh stop trying to be so high and mighty.

People stack because they don’t have to deal with the bosses mechanics and can just mash buttons.

Ah yes, how could we forget.

Stacking up next to Lupicus, and ignoring his AoEs, Grub, and life drain mechanics.
Stacking up next to the Molten Berserker and ignoring the shockwaves and Firestorm projectiles.
Stacking up next to Shaman Lornarr Dragonseeker and ignoring his frost breath.
Stacking up next to Captain Mai Trinn, and ignoring her bleed stacks.
Stacking up next to the Prototype F-IV, E-IV, and T-IV golems, and ignoring their projectiles.
Stacking up next to General Volkov and ignoring his bleed stacks.
Stacking up next to Ralena and Vassar, and ignoring their buffs for being next to each other.
Stacking up next to the Shoggoroth, and ignoring his stun if he isn’t burning.
Stacking up next to Subject Alpha and ignoring his ice, fire, and earth attacks.
Stacking up next to Andal the Thug, and ignoring his ice spikes.
Stacking up next to Clockheart, and ignoring his launch.

Clearly everyone in the dungeon forums forgot about all of these examples.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Da Sonic.6521

It does a lot of damage but makes you a massive target with removable stability, and decreases your movement speed. On top of this, it has a massive cooldown, so if you get burned down or forced out of Lich Form because you have no Vigor, evasion skills, or a heal, it’s a waste of an elite that could be saved for an AoE knockdown on a 1m cooldown, or a massive survivability boost that Plague provides (which Necros need desperately if they’re going to survive teamfights long enough to be useful).

The only thing I might consider tweaking is lowering the power increase WHILE increasing the base damage of the attack to keep the damage the same, to lessen the damage of Sigils of Fire/Air while in Lich Form.

As you can read in my first post, I say “at least in sPvP”, and necros don’t need the Plague survivability there, maybe the Golem, but none of that is better than an elite than save you of almost all 1vs1, as necro you use all you have in a fight, if you still think the enemy will kill you, voila! you use the lich form and spam skill 1 to eat your opponent with extreme dps. Actually, this is bad for necros, people are starting to hate this, and thinking the “not so skilled players” exploit this.

I am talking solely about sPvP, and that is exactly where Necros need Plague survivability. Plague gives a massive boost to vitality and toughness, and can provide a blind or weakness once every second. This allows Necros to stay on points far longer than they normally would, and can provide relief from pressure when multiple people are attacking them. As a Necro in sPvP, you are often the highest priority target in group fights because of no access to vigor, blocks, invulnerability skills, or evade skills. Necros need all the help they can get. Lich Form is giving up that ability to stick to a point for some very conditional damage that puts you in a very slow and vulnerable form. It does a lot of damage to make up for that, but it’s a tradeoff.

All in all, my build would hit approximately 10000 on you, and a might signet build would hit for approximately 12200.

Given my build is 5/6/0/0/3, and receives all defense from utilities and weapon skills, and the might on signets build doesn’t even have utilities to speak of, that seems like a fair tradeoff.

Lots of good feedback here:

  • Templates should be flexible on what they contain. Everyone wants something a little different from this feature.
  • Template switching can be abused in WvW, between dungeon bosses, etc.
  • Tiered release approach (I feel this feedback is because people want this feature RIGHT MEOW)
  • UI suggestions are pretty diverse. There are a lot of ways it could be handled, and it touches a LOT of systems in the game.
  • Fear of inspect / gear-checking by others.
  • Using real items is more of a ‘load-out’ than a ‘template’. Possibly different systems.

Template switching in PvE shouldn’t be an issue because it would ease both the casual players from having to remember exactly which traits to switch to to help with certain bosses, and will let the players who do speedruns spend less time switching their builds.
WvW it may benefit builds who can disengage from a fight more than those with less movement, but if anything, those classes can already do that. This change would just allow the fight to resume quicker.

A simple all purpose Trait template does seem a much more reasonable goal to work on first, as that could be used across all game modes.

So excluding experience from killing things and reviving things while in the mission you earn a total of: 608.31. Which wouldn’t even be enough to level you to Level 3.

Either I’m not interpreting what you wrote correctly, or you horribly misinterpreted the experience gained per story mission. For each mission, you gain 27% of a level, if you were at the level of the mission. So the level 80 reward would give 68580 experience, level 79 reward would give 65070 experience, etc…

(OP here, thread necro)

Took me 8 months but now I can finally say that I’ve figured the champ out. Once you do he becomes face-roll easy:

Goal complete!

GS mesmer ftw!

gs mes pls go

gs mes are viable!

I don’t mean to be rude, but in this very thread you can see people who figured out the boss, 8 months ago. I’m not sure what this adds to a thread 8 months dead.

GS Mesmer is as viable as Ranger Longbow. They’re both “decent” options if you’re alone against a boss you won’t be meleeing, but they’re terrible in melee, so you either have a terrible autoattack or no buffs from your party.

Longbow/Shortbow rangers are not efficient or successful when it comes to pulling their own weight in a party who’s goal is to farm content quickly.

I think that is the problem with the dungeon subforum. It’s not about playing dungeons, it’s about farming dungeons. If there was a Queensdale thread before the update, it would have been all about the train and not the ton of other stuff assiciated with that map.

I dragged a lot of people through the Aetherpath by now( I always PUG with my fiance, so usually 2 experienced players +3ppl who are doing the path for the first time). These guys are so thankful every time. That is much more fulfilling than finishing in 30min.

The issue with this is that there’s no discussion to be had on runs like that. Once strategies for dungeons have been learned, the dungeon forum turns to learning more efficient ways to do content, not more efficient ways to teach content to new players. I find it spectacular that you’re teaching people Aetherpath, but there isn’t anything more to talk about for those runs than there is when I start “Story, anyone welcome!” runs on my full dps Warrior, and carry 4 level 30-35s though it. The regulars to the dungeon forums are, for the majority, people who have finished every dungeon more than a few times, and aren’t interested in playing with people who are under the assumption that by running a power shortbow build with a pig, they’re being a competent and useful member of a party.

Ah right! I thought about traits but for some reason neglected to even mention them haha. I guess I sort of tunneled on the armor part and forgot not only about the traits, but weapons as well.

In all honesty, I’ve been running into people that are just coming back to the game so their quite similar to me as in not being the cream of the crop so to speak and learning the ropes. I was heavily biased about the gear department but started trying new things and liking the numbers that came out (even with a mix of zerk rare gear and assassin exotics). Hell, I’m trying to figure out how the one dude (ok I know she’s a female from her video ._.) got that 49k fire grab…kinda wanna hit the big numbers myself.

@Digi, I’m glad to see someone else started in partial knights to learn. I’ve recommended that to 1 or 2 people as I knew from doing a fractal with them that they didn’t try to avoid red circles (even if you’re new to an instance, you usually try to avoid the “danger” signs) so that’s reassuring.

I honestly still find myself putting on cleric gear sometimes during parts I KNOW a group usually has trouble with but I switch to dps gear when I feel comfortable.

On a different note, are conditional builds in general bad for PvE? So far, I’ve noticed things die pretty fast depending on who’s experienced and such so that the DoT spells of say necros or eles wont be all that great but what about for longer fights?

A 49k Firegrab was probably in a group completely stacked to the teeth with party buffs (25 might, vuln, banners, frost spirit) or against an enemy with very little armor. There are a few enemies in Arah particularly that show very high numbers just because they have high health and low armor.

Condition builds are less than great for the reason you stated, their damage just takes far too long to work, and only in extremely good situations will it even match the damage a direct damage build can output.

3. The ooze is one big RNG, but it can be dealed with FGS or double ice bow.
4. I don’t know how to burst the Anomaly boss down. He’s pretty much immune to any CC and his attacks are unblockable.

Warrior can bring Signet of Might+Offhand Mace for an unblockable Tremor, letting the party continue dpsing quickly instead of waiting for the block to end. I assume the block is what you mean by RNG.

Ice Bow actually works wonders on this boss too, although you will need to be aware of the floor falling out at 50%. With 25 Might, banners and little vuln, 2 Ice Bows spawned from one ele were enough to bring him down to 50%, a second ele bringing another 2 Ice Bows should be enough to take him out completely, or put him very close to death.

  • Ascalon Catacombs, Spider Queen- Remove the nook between the entrance stairs and the fence so she can’t be pulled into an area where she won’t use her multi-AoE poison pool attack.

Perhaps the most common misconception about dungeons is the fact that pulling the Spider Queen to that spot removes her ability to use the poison attack. This is false. She only uses the poison attack if someone is out of melee range, so a group stacked in the corner is no different than a group stacked in the middle of the room, except that in the corner, it is easier to cleave down spider babies and utilize skills like Fiery Rush and Whirlwind Attack. The corner is just a widely known spot that eases ensuring everyone is in melee range, removing it would just move everyone to one side of the statue, the back of the room, etc…

It’ll all just be “all zerker”.

:(

Players are rewarded for knowing mechanics of enemies and bringing the bare minimum to stay alive, which doesn’t include any defensive stats on gear. You should be glad the game promotes active gameplay so much, and glad it doesn’t require passive defense like Sentinel’s gear.

But I never implied that I wasn’t happy with the game or in fact ask why I should be glad. Just making an obvious statement really. Sorry if what I posted was unclear!

You’ll have to excuse me for taking the “:(” as a negative connotation.

I just want to say to the OP that you are probably posting this in the wrong place. It is almost like going to a conference for the 1% and telling them, “hey you are being payed too much, I suggest we cut your salaries by X%.” Dungeon farming is the bread and butter for most of the people who dwells in this section of the forums. Personally I agree that dungeon rewards are really good.

This was in General for some time, the powers that be moved it here.

One method is to get her down very quickly, so she can’t spawn too many tornados.
Spec for more dps and throw everything on her as you go in.
that worked for me at least.
If you take too long, you will not be able to escape the tornados with a mesmer and Mantra of Concentration does only help soso.

I have tried my condition mesmer, which cant kill her because a lot clone skills move or port you into tornadoes and you’re done from infinite juggling. I tried my necro with lich form but it doesn’t do enough damage in time so the tornadoes just kill him. Tried my warrior just now, used dolyak signet. He does the most damage but once the signet is gone he just gets juggled infinitely too.

There’s no way to get out of it, you keep getting bounced back and forth and have no way to respond.

I made this for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwseD7cesdY

Simple build, and I didn’t even play correctly, I forgot to pop the heal for the 15% damage boost, and never used Whirlwind.

Damage Meters and Inspect Commands

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Da Sonic.6521

The biggest issue I have with the arguments against a dps meter/ingame gearcheck is that opponents to it always state that it will cause such a massive problem to anyone not playing in full zerk gear/traits, when the proportion of people defending their PVT/Cleric builds seems to be so much higher than the people who wish to run full damage. Straight from the horse’s mouth, we’ve heard that casual runs fill up in 30s, when Berserker teams take 10+ minutes to fill, which implies a much higher amount of players playing how they want, with no gearchecks. Why not allow a tool that lets those players find each other and let the people wanting to run full dps ensure their team is geared as such?

You’re not looking at the other part of the problem, where the person starting the “zerker only” party might be looking for a party to carry them through the dungeon. Also, if someone doesnt want to ping their gear, then kick them and go back to waiting. You’re perfectly able to go about playing how you want already.

This actually just strengthens my point, a gearcheck built into the game would ensure someone isn’t starting a group with the sole intent of having the rest of the party carry them, as they could check the person’s gear too. Additionally, if it’s already possible, as you say, why not add a very simple check into the game to streamline things, and help people get on their way quicker?
