I agree, there’s no purpose to having these dungeons closed. There’s no event that prevents access to WvW and there’s no event that prevents access to sPvP, so I’m not sure why this section of content has events that prevent entrance.

I don’t have ascended armor or weapons : /

So you’re not at a wall at all then, you’re just refusing to get the tools necessary to get the AR. This is like saying you have a problem getting your car started when you haven’t bought an engine, tires, or headlight fluid.

Get the Ascended Armor/Weapons, you’re missing out on a lot of AR otherwise, and you’re also missing out on 10% direct damage and 5% armor.

Best use for laurels

in Players Helping Players

Laurels can be used to buy Ascended Amulets (30L or 20L+250 Badges of Honor, only way to get them), Ascended Rings (some amount, I don’t remember, can get these for “free” from fractals), Ascended Earrings (some amount+50 Ecto, can get these for guild missions as well). Past that, buying the T6 mat bags is probably the best price per Laurel. I’d buy the Amulets for all the characters you want, then buy some T6 mats, with some reserved incase you want stuff later. You will need 5 Laurels per Ascended Armor/Weapon Recipe (so 6 for a full armor set of a stat type).

Three for the uncategorized fractal

One, if everyone is melee range of a harpy that harpy will never use its knockdown. This means most parts you don’t have to worry about getting knocked off. Some harpies however like to agro even if you don’t hit them (or cleave hits them) those harpies can attack you with knockback if you aren’t melee with them as well. But don’t worry that really only happens towards the end of the second harpy jump segment.

Secondly If you have stablity/invul/reflect/absorb and the person next to you gets hit with the knockback you will get knockbacked. #splashdamageOP The only thing that will save you in this case is dodge.

Lastly if you try to skip you AGRO EVERYTHING, seriously, don’t do this. The reason why is the people behind you will get agro from all the mobs you agro and it will never go away. That’s why I kick on site if I see some kitten do that with out warning.

I know the regulars here probably know this but a ton of pugs don’t.

Also you can do that hot reactor room thing in thummanova, some classes can do it with two coolant cores and some can do it with one. Thankfully more and more pugs are doing this (ooze takes to long).

Ooze is like a 45 second fight, and you’ll have to do all 4 rooms at 40+ anyways.

Good job assuming that this only affects guardians. FYI I did dungeons on all classes(except engiee). My warrior is currently running as a support/tank with decent dps. My elementalist is a healer, but is extremely squishy herself. Even my mesmer is at the moment focused around using mantras. Berserker isn’t the only gear that requires active dodging, if you don’t believe so then I invite you to try and do tequatl. It doesn’t matter if you’re high dps or a tank. His poison will kill you in seconds, UNLESS you dodge. Also while I agree that most guardians are easy to use, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using buffs. And yes, Berserker gear sounds pretty cheap to me, especially since dungeons are supposed to be based around teamwork. I don’t see any in mindlessly hitting your opponent and dodging, that’s all you’re doing, boring&cheap imo.
Berserker =/= better players, just more mindless.

First of all, I am shocked and offended that you think I was singling out Guardians. I play full Sentinel or Cleric gear on every profession. My teammates love it when I bring a Cleric venom Thief into the Crucible of Eternity. I can get up to forty thousand health on my Necromancer and heal my allies for OVER 4000 HEALTH with Life Transfer! I went to Tequatl as you suggested, and I learned that the statistically best gear for it was Soldiers, because you can’t crit Tequatl. I wasn’t having any of that, because honestly, why would I play Soldiers when I can run Settler’s, I’m sure my Burning will do massive damage to Tequatl. I went to Fractals with a group of Berserker’s, and we just threw a bunch of random professions together with no regard for the dungeon or what we could do as a team to excel in it. I mean, I suppose we could have brought a Guardian or Mesmer with area Stability to prevent the 23 times we were knocked off platforms by harpies in the Uncategorized Fractal, or we could have brought reflects to prevent the Elementals from killing us 12 times in the Grawl Fractal, or we could have brought group stealth so we could run the bombs in the Dredge Fractal, or for damage we could have brought a Warrior with banners or a Ranger with Spirits or an engineer with AoE Vulerability, but hey, we were all running berserker so we don’t need to think about what utilities and traits would be useful for the team. I completely agree with you, it’s a much more fun experience to have 5 people filled to the brim with healing so that we can sustain each other through the 45 minute fight that is the Spider Queen in AC. I much like my 4% crit chance that makes my Dagger Backstab do 1500 damage instead of 1000. I much prefer when nobody runs Berserker because I have this notion that having less inherent defense makes me less skilled at the game. Saying that people should use dodges or kill things in under half an hour is a farce. Long live the Sentinels.

In all honesty, I’m extremely disappointed with the zerker nerf.

It should have been much more.

I know, right? I always thought that the best way to do dungeons successfully is to get people to use healing, buffs and stuff that will support their entire team, but my friend proved to me that full zerker party will always do things better and faster. I’m not sure how this works, or why it works this way, but I’m extremely happy with this update. I dislike cheapness, and so I’m glad. =D

I know right? I love not having to use dodge, use blocks, invulnerability, evades, or blinds and instead just put a full set of Sentinel’s or Cleric’s gear and stand still while I let my character auto attack the boss. My teammates die so quickly, but I can pause from my autoattacking of the boss to res all four teammates one by one next to the checkpoint in Fractals. They complain that I’m messing up their combo fields, but my Symbol of Faith gives enough Regeneration for me to survive forever AND blast Retaliation. I tried using Berserker once, but I couldn’t stand next to Kholer as he spun around, what am I, a peasant that needs to move away from the boss occasionally?

The active playstyle, learning of boss mechanics, and teamwork that Berserker require are cheap, and I’m glad the damage is being reduced, even though it will still be the statistically best gear in the game, and everyone will still kick me from dungeons for using Sentinel’s gear.

Zojja's Claymore dissapeared

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Da Sonic.6521

Da Sonic.6521

Transmutation combines two items, and only ever two items. When you transmuted your Zojja’s Claymore with your Vision of the Mists, your two items were Zojja’s Claymore and Vision of the mists. It remembers the stats and look of both. Later, when you transmuted that greatsword with a white greatsword, your two items were the Vision of the Mists (Because you selected the looks of that) and the white greatsword (because you selected the stats of that). The “correct” method would have required you to use a splitter to separate the original transmuted greatsword, then transmute both to white greatswords, then split the ascended greatsword on the new character and apply the skin to that. Rather expensive and as you said, pointless, with Account Bound Wardrobe for skins and more importantly, account bound Ascended/Legendary gear, which would have avoided the problem altogether.

Not sure if you can get your greatsword back, but definitely submit a ticket to support https://help.guildwars2.com/home (only one, or you may not get a timely response).

New player with a few questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Da Sonic.6521

Da Sonic.6521

With regards to Ranger in dungeons, they are in a very peculiar situation. On one hand, Ranger does decent damage in melee and at range and can provide long lasting water fields and provides damage boosts from Frost Spirit and Spotter. On the other hand, Ranger is a very popular profession with new players (for the reasons you stated), so the amount of Rangers experienced with the content is quite low in comparison to other professions. That leads many people to just not want to play pug roulette and avoid letting Rangers in the party at all. If I were going to try to play Ranger to start off with, I’d probably look for a guild that will help teach you dungeons, because being an inexperienced ranger looking for pug dungeon runs is likely going to cause you and others frustration.

Ranger pets aren’t bad when properly managed, they’re quite a nice damage boost if you can keep them alive (not always easy to do) and many have useful skills like blast finishers, aoe boons, etc… You really do need to know how to manage them to not be a burden to your team though, just as an example, at max melee range, the first encounter of the Grawl Shaman in Fractals will not use his heavily damaging melee attack, so classes who want to attack in melee can do that with relative impunity. A ranger pet will trigger the attack if it goes in that range, and can get those players heavily damaged or downed. As a Ranger, you are expected to know or learn those situations where certain pets are required/should be removed.

Dragonite Ore for Fractal Bosses

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Da Sonic.6521

Da Sonic.6521

Sorry guys, but… no way. I want to see as little of these horrible items (fragments, ore, dust) dropped as possible. They haven’t nerfed drop rates enough. I have to keep destroying 250x stacks because of the dozens and dozens of them that I get. My mules’ bags are all full of stacks, I have dozens and dozens of refined bricks, ingots and stars… I just don’t really understand why these items have to be dropped so frequently.

I think that these items are far too abundant in the first place; having them dropped elsewhere seems really unnecessary.

And where exactly are you getting this overabundance of Dragonite Ore? Would you say it was obtained while doing a dungeon or fractal?

The point of this thread isn’t to discuss the droprate or excess of the drops (although as someone who has geared out several alts in ascended gear, I sure don’t have enough). The point of this thread is to discuss the ways in which they can be obtained.

Anyone have any opinions on if they added a small Dragonite reward to Fractals? A small sum of 15-25 per Boss Fractal would be the same as a keep in WvW and many of the medium sized world bosses, and would allow people who prefer dungeons to massive zergs to get Dragonite, while still giving those who want to participate in meta events a quicker method (similar to how those who prefer meta events can get Empyreal Fragments via jumping puzzles/small chests, while it is faster to get it via dungeons/wvw roaming).

New Traits/Trait System, impact on dungeons.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Da Sonic.6521

Da Sonic.6521

So, with the recent blog from Anet ( https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/traits-unleashed-forty-new-traits-and-more/ ) we know one grandmaster trait for each class and, arguably more importantly, that resetting traits can be done anywhere for free as long as you’re not in combat.

First, I’ll list a short synopsis of the announced traits, all of which are Grandmaster level.

Elementalist – Aquatic Benevolence: (unannounced line) 25% Healing + to other allies.
Engineer – Fortified Turrets: Inventions | 4 second reflect on turrets when placed. AoE seems approx size of Sanctuary by guardian.
Guardian – Force of Will: Honor | +300 vitality.
Necromancer – Unholy Sanctuary: Death Magic – Separate “boon” that functions exactly the same as Regeneration.
Mesmer – Power Block: Domination | Interrupted skills with cooldowns are placed on a 10s cooldown (up from 5s).
Ranger – Read the Wind: Marksmanship | Longbow arrows move twice as fast.
Thief – Invigorating Precision: Critical Strikes | 5% of damage from crits is returned as healing to you.
Warrior – Dual-Wield Agility: Arms – 10% increased attack speed when wielding offhand axe, mace, sword.

Honestly, it seems the only announced trait that may show any use in dungeons is the Warrior one, if it can bring axe autoattack damage high enough to warrant the extra 5 in Arms.

More importantly, in my opinion, is the fact that you can change traits on the go, seemingly in dungeons. That means if you have an engineer running their grenade build and for a specific fight you need reflects more than you need vulnerability, they can pop 30 points into inventions on the run and swap to a few turrets. Bad example, I know, but I think this will have some impact on how dungeons are done, especially at the higher end.

Keybinds

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Da Sonic.6521

Da Sonic.6521

What keybind setup do you use, and why do you use it?

I’m pretty curious because I know the bindings from my guildies differ from mine greatly, and profession choice/mouse can impact the binds significantly.

I use the one I’ll link in the image below.

I find that if I ever really need to move away from a fight, it’s quicker to turn around and run the distance or strafe diagonally backwards via camera movements instead of moving slowly backwards, so I don’t have walk backwards bound anymore. That leaves QWE as my movement (also, this is a much more comfortable resting position for my hand than AWD). Utilities right under movement so I can press them without needing to move my fingers off the movement keys (if necessary) and weapon skills on the regular 1-5 keys. Weaponswap on Tab for easy access. Heal on ~, since it’s used less frequently, but still in closer than hitting 6. Dodge close by on R, interact close by on F, Elite on G because it’s used very infrequently for most professions. F1 on my mouse forward button, because I generally play Necromancer, Thief, Warrior(I have the rest of the profession mechanic buttons still bound to F1-4, but I’d have to change up something if I wanted to play any of the professions that require them competitively).

Question about Rabid vs. Dire/Carrion

in Necromancer

Posted by: Da Sonic.6521

Da Sonic.6521

Here’s the build I run, mainly focused on WvW, since Necromancers are bad in PvE (yes I know they can work, but they’re outclassed in every respect).
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vQEQNArYWjc00ab5N22webiASh7xV0DiFskRpAepD-zUCBYhBEXEiqAgkGkCBKTtIasl1FRjVdDTHjIqOAACwMLzycmBG6QH6QH6QbmzcmzcoDtUAwssC-w

No Dhuumfire because that’s changing in the near future to be applied on Death Shroud autoattack, and I don’t think that’s worth the time spent casting. 20 points in Spite for the Spinal Shivers application on targets <50%, which really seals a lot of kills. Additionally, 20% condition duration is quite nice.
Rest of the traits are pretty self explanatory.

Scepter/Dagger over Scepter/Focus because the vulnerability/regen isn’t super important for a condition build (especially when compared to a condition cleanse, long lasting bleed, and weakness) and Spinal Shivers can be traited, and fills the same role as Corrupt Boon.

Staff over Dagger/Dagger because Staff gives another major condition cleanse, a nice AoE chill, and an AoE fear which is great for combat near cliffs and ensuring a Rally or stomp. Staff also has deceptively high damage (although not nearly as much as Scepter/Dagger), Mark of Blood is on a 6 second cooldown and does 6k damage to up to 5 targets if left unchecked.

Dire Armor and Rabid Trinkets to ensure a respectable crit chance to get procs and putting the rest of the points into vitality, since Necromancers benefit from it not only as regular health, but as Death Shroud health, which is gained in percentages.

With this gear, I get a 40% chance to crit on my Scepter/Dagger set, and between the +40% from food, Lingering Curse/Hemoplilia, and the +20% duration from Spite, I can get the scepter autoattacks/grasping dead to apply +100% bleed duration, which hits the breakpoint and is quite nice for damage.

40% crit chance is plenty to proc Sigil of Earth and Barbed Precision, and means the Runes of Perplexity I use applies another condition pretty frequently. Speaking of Runes of Perplexity, the major reason I run those is (aside from having another condition for them to worry about) that with Spectral Grasp, a well timed interrupt on their heal puts them in an extremely poor situation, where they have their heal on a short cooldown exacerbated by the chill, 5 stacks of confusion, and a short CC that lets me apply more conditions.

Flesh Golem is there for the knockdown (it doesn’t benefit from Perplexity, sadly) but can be switched out for Plague if you absolutely need some survivability in which teammates can help you out. I highly discourage the use of this if alone (but Necromancers really perform much better in small groups anyways).

Corrupt Boon and Epidemic are interchangable, Corrupt is useful for crippling Elementalists, Warriors and Guardians, and Epidemic can put a lot of pressure on groups of players, especially when they’re attempting to rally someone.

Spectral Armor and Spectral Walk are interchangable, Armor generally being more useful, but Walk having its place in the form of a double stunbreak and a way to cheat death down cliffs (really the only way you’re going to escape a fight if the enemy is following you).

Relying solely on conditions means you’re really not going to bring much to PvE, since the majority of dungeons are highly favorable to power based builds, but that’s just a flaw of conditions. Necromancer doesn’t really bring much to dungeons because they provide very little might or other boons to their allies, have single target damage for nearly all of their power options, and can provide less vulnerability than other professions who ultimately do more damage themselves. I personally set my Necromancer up for WvW only, and left Dungeons to my Warrior and Thief.

Fractal bug.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Da Sonic.6521

Da Sonic.6521

This isn’t a bug, you just misunderstood the charr in this fractal.

There are two types of charr at the beginning of this fractal, those who follow you, and those who don’t. The charr that follow you will still attack the ever-respawning enemies at the beginning of the fractal, but if you kill those enemies quick enough, you can get them to follow you away from the spawn point. The charr who do not follow you will always fight the ever-respawning enemies, or run into arrow cart fire and get killed immediately.

I figure what happened at the end of the fractal was just as your last person was downed, the charr killed all the enemies at the beginning of the fractal simultaneously, didn’t have anything to fight, and teleported to the closest player, who just happened to be downed at the boss.

Thank you, gonna use the Support through Menu and tick Exploits.
And yes, that’s an exploit since it’s killing enemies instantly. Enemies don’t even get downed, but insta-die.

For reference, this is false. FGS Fiery Rush + a Teleport is bugged in the sense that you stop running, but it doesn’t “kill enemies instantly” it places bits of trails underneath their character that all do damage. The damage is extremely high (70 hits of 2k+ in PvE, at the very least) and downs enemies, and the trail lasts long enough to then damage the downed player to death. It happens if you get caught on a wall or immobilized too.

i dont think its unfair, if u really have THAT many u were never gana use them anyways

and besides maybe anet will let you sell them or something

Humans have approximately 100,000,000,000 brain cells. By your argument, we should remove 99,000,000,000 of your brain cells. If you have THAT many, you were never going to use them anyways (especially not on grammar or spelling, it seems).

Besides, maybe someone will give you a few bucks for them or something.

I’d turn my Charr Thief into a Tengu Thief if it became an option. Other than that, no. I made my characters how I wanted them, some of them I even had their armor sets chosen before I made them.

For you, I think it’s worth remaking the character if it bothers you that much. A level 80, even without crafting, takes maybe a week or two to get.

Sale prices for keys wrong?

Da Sonic.6521

Or they realize that people buy on price and not on utility, and when people see the 5 keys are cheaper per key than 1 or 25, they think they’re getting a deal and sticking it to the man.
Things like this pop up everywhere.

Tome of Knowledge

How do you ppl get so many tomes?
1 hour of play in LA gives what, 0.75 of a tome?

You only get around 75 belongings per run? I usually get enough bags for at least 1 tome per run unless it was the heirloom run.
You can also buy them from the sPvP vendor(although that will be getting removed soonish).

Even if its a tome per run ( = 1 hour), people here are talking about 60 or 80 or those! wth! How so many?

…am I missing something?

Yeah, you can buy them with Glory from sPvP. Due to some bugs in the past that gave out liberal amount of glory, I know a few people with 150+ Tomes still sitting around after levelling a few characters 20→80.

This bug was actually incredibly funny in WvW a few days ago. My Flesh Golem stood three feet outside of the camp while me and an ally killed everything inside it. Only after everything was dead did my flesh golem even walk into the camp. What a leech.
