I really want to lvl a hunter to 80, but with this current trait system in place, it’s just going to be an all-around terrible, boring, and aggravating experience,. New players get hit the hardest by these terrible changes, but even as an older player, going from lvling 4/5 of my toon to 80 getting access to traits and everything early has made it near impossible for me to revert to this new system, where everything takes massive amounts of time, or a horrendous amount of gold and SP just to start making any kind of unique build.
I had to make a new toon with my last character slot and equip it with 9g worth of 18-slot bags just to hold all the junk the xmas event has given me alone. I agree with OP that at least the holiday event creates wayyy too much cluster in inventory. I’m not going to go as far as to say it’s designed that way to make the option of buying more bag slots for real money more desirable, but at times it does feel like Anet always has the gem shop in mind as of late.
Just look at the new dailies for example; some of the PvP dailies require you to be on a specific class (win 1 match on engineer). Well, you only get 5 character slots, so if you want to be able to do all your PvP dailies every day, you essentially HAVE to drop 200+gold or ~$20-30 on gems to buy 3 more character slots to have 1 of each class.
It’s not game-breaking or anything, but it does take away from the holiday event itself when every 20-30 minutes I have to do a complete inventory cleanup due to all the junk those presents give you.
Ticket number 1069443 sent 5 days ago requesting assistance on logging into original GW after having forgotten my 2 toon names (can’t get past the security question part of log-in without remembering a toon name).
Thanks!
I went through their support page to send them the message, so I do in fact have a ticket number in the automated message they sent me originally when the system received my mail.
I will go check out that sticky thread, thanks for the advice JustTrogdor.
My GW1 and GW2 accounts are linked, however, when I purchased GW1 back in Jan of 2012, I only played ~20 hours of it according to steam’s playtime tracking, and I went back to playing other games relatively quickly. That being said, I recently have had to urge to spend some of my time when I am not on GW2 playing the original GW so I can get an understanding of the lore and everything that game has to offer.
Here’s where my issue arises: I only made 2 toons back then (an assassin and a dervish), and I have no idea what either of their names are. Since you need to provide the name of one of your GW1 characters just to log in to the game, I am essentially locked out from playing the game until I receive support from Anet. I sent an e-mail nearly a week ago now, and have yet to receive any assistance, so I am posting here, the only other place I know people from Anet will see this.
I was sort of hoping to play some GW1 this weekend, so I would really appreciate it if one of your support staff could help me with the issue. I didn’t take any SS back then, so I have no pictures with any of my toon names in them (plus I had a different PC back then), but I honestly wouldn’t even mind if you just wiped my GW1 characters so I could start fresh, as I obviously wasn’t invested in game back in 2012 when I only put 20 hours of play into it. I sent a support e-mail with ample personal info/account info/CD keys to prove I am the account owner, but until I either receive one of my toon names, or get my GW1 toons erased, I will never be able to play the game I paid $30 for, which is sort of aggravating.
I thank you in advance for your assistance, and I hope that you can help solve my issue! (I posted this here since I didn’t see a GW1 forum area, but if there is an area for GW1 stuff only, feel free to move this thread there).
If such a thing as a precursor vendor were to be added, I think it would only be fair that the vendor prices roughly match those of the TP. I mean, there are hundreds of players who have but hundreds of hours into farming and collecting gold to buy these items for ~1k gold, and you want Anet to just release a NPC that sells them for half of that?
Get over yourself and realize that legendaries are meant to take hundreds of hours to complete if you don’t have insane gold making skills/easy access to RL money to spend on gold. Asking Anet to make things easier for you just because you can’t put in the effort needed to get one of the RAREST most expensive items in the game is just silly.
If you farm most of the world events/easy dungeons every day, you’re basically guaranteed upwards of 15-20+ gold a day, and that’s not counting other stuff like open-world event farming, TP flipping, gems bought then converted to gold, zerg farming, etc. If you really want a legendary, you will find a way to farm the money needed, even if it takes a year to do so.
The only reason ArenaNet changed there mined is because they felt us the players needed “direction” when playing the game.
So basically the only reason levelling up exists in this game is because ArenaNet thinks were stupid….
It was the Alpha testers actually.
They complained about lack of direction, thus levels and Hearts.
That’s really funny though, as doing hearts and leveling a toon from 1-80 is probably one of the activities I dislike most in GW2, lol. To each their own though, I’m sure some people out there like exploring the same zones that were available at release 2-8+ times to level their other classes.
I don’t know how trusting I am in wildstar, as NCsoft is the company behind it, and they are also the ones backing Anet and GW2. Quitting GW2 to go to another MMO backed by the same company seems a little counter-productive in my eyes. I would rather take my chances with FFXIV, Diablo 3, TESO (heard mixed reviews on this one), and PSO2 once it’s out in America.
It is without a doubt made for casuals. If you look at any MMO that has a focus on hardcore end-game content, they release new raids, dungeons, or instances basically EVERY single new big patch. GW2’s patches are more focused on gem-store items, temporary content that doesn’t take long to do, and aesthetics/cosmetics of your armor and weapons, which is why I think a lot of traditional MMO players said GW2 has no end game, and quit shortly afterward.
Buy gems > convert to gold > become rich in less than 10 minutes.
I want to say yes, because the new patch didn’t add anything of value to me aside from being able to use my sunrise on other characters, but the fact of the matter is I wasn’t playing before this patch at all, and I have tried it out for 2-3 hours before becoming bored, so I guess I am playing this patch more than I was before. That being said, until they add more zones, permanent content, dungeons, etc. I will not be logging back in anymore.
Living story was a cool idea initially, but if all the content is temporary and you miss say, a few months of it, it leaves you not knowing what the LS is even about, and makes it really hard to get into. Combine that with the massive lack of new permanent content, and you’ve basically got the same game you had at release with just a few minor additions.
Other games like FFXIV can release 4-5 new end-game dungeons every 3 months, along side new quests, story missions, instanced fights, and even raid-like events, and yet GW2 has hardly added any new permanent content since the release. Just FotM, a couple new dungeons, and a TON of temporary content that can no longer be accessed by players like me that take multiple month breaks from the game. I’m a 100% PvE focused person, so the lack of lasting PvE content, changes to world boss event timers (outside of gambling my money away at the MF, using the timers and camping the world boss events after 5PM PST was my favorite activity in this game daily), and the focus on WvW/SPvP have almost made this game unplayable for me, which makes me really sad.
I have put over 1k hours into the game, earned my sunrise completely legitimately, joined a fun guild, and really enjoyed myself at one point in time, however it feels like I’m still playing this game in it’s release version due to the lack of new lasting content, and this patch hasn’t added anything to change that. I have tried to log-in and have fun since the update, but the 3-4 times I have logged in haven’t been fun, and I have felt like there’s not really much to do for a PvE-focused player once you have done all the old dungeons and explored all the zones in the game, as Anet never adds new content. The living story just doesn’t cut it in terms of adding new exciting content that keeps people coming back, as most people zerg through it for achievements/free items, then never touch it again unless it’s like Queen’s Pavilion and people can make money off of it.
Anyways, I will end this scatterbrained rant by saying I do hope Anet changes the way they run this game and add more permanent content for PvE players to enjoy, but until that happens I will stick to games like FFXIV and diablo 3 that actually add permanent content that bring fresh experiences to their game. I mean, d3 was such a failure at launch, but through various PERMANENT reworks to the loot and experience system, PLUS the addition of an expansion pack that brought a new class, higher lvl cap, new ways of customizing gear, new unique gear effects, and so-on, the game is currently a huge success, and the amount of people playing it atm is much higher than it has been in over a year. Then you have Anet, who has made no mention of an expansion, added no new classes, added 1 perpetually empty zone (except during karka queen), and generally shaped their content around selling gem store items, effectively making many of their players quit the game. I know this post is not well-organized, proofread, and has a heavy air of complaining to it, but I feel as though after putting 1k+ hours into the game, and not seeing much change in it at all since release I’m at least entitled to my opinion on the game.
I will keep trying to get my ranger to 80, but may never make it at this rate. I do still like GW2 for what it is, but as an endgame PvE focused player, there just isn’t enough content being added atm to make me consider this even close to my favorite MMO atm.
I would love to see leveling taken out of this game altogether. I have 2 toons at 80 as is, but have been bored playing them, so I have been leveling my ranger since the new patch hit. Well, since I have already done all the available world content twice now, and there hasn’t been almost any new permanent content added that I haven’t experienced yet, leveling ranger is proving to be a massive grind with no a shred of fun involved.
Anet seems to love fishing for money with every new update, so I don’t see why they don’t just add a gem shop item that lvls you to 80 so you can bypass the horrendous leveling process in this game. I will admit, the first time I leveled my guardian to 80, I was really engulfed in the story and exploration of new zones. Now that I have 100%’d the map and done the story, every character I level makes it harder and harder to play, to the point where I can really only play my ~30-45 warrior or ranger for about 30 min before I log out of the game due to boredom.
If they want leveling to stay fresh, they should add some new permanent content, maybe some new zones for people to explore and get experience in, because right now I’m basically getting the same leveling experience as I did at release due to the lack of new zones and content since release.
Maybe I’m just a little bias since I just bought my precursor, but I would most likely quit the game (for at least a few months) if they make it so precursor ever have a reason to drop to like 50-100g price tag, seeing as how I paid 4-5 times that amount for mine.
It’s not only that, but with a ton of other great looking MMOs coming out soon-ish like Wildstar, FFXIV, etc., I would definitely be inclined to just pick up one of those games instead of continuing to put hours of my daily time into getting items that could lose a large chunk of their value overnight because they are hard to obtain, and people don’t want to work for them.
Double the precursor drop rate – watch everyone who owns a precursor/legendary flip out at Anet/quit. Sounds like a good plan.
I currently use a Logitech M510 wireless mouse. It’s a pretty typical mouse, has the 2 clicking buttons, the scroll wheel, plus 2 additional buttons on the left side that would be used for back/forward while browsing the net. I have changed my keys around so that my dodge button is on the left-side back button, so I can quickly dodge with just a click from my thumb. It’s obviously not some super crazy gaming mouse, and I think I picked it up for $20-30, but it has lasted me over half a year now, so I have got more than my money’s worth out of it imo.
They gave you a free item for being a paying customer on their game? Time to complain on the forums!
But really, it’s silly to argue that this is a crooked or bad practice at all on their part. All they are doing is showing their appreciation towards those who help keep this game funded, by rewarding them with new items that would normally cost ~$5, or 15-20g. If you’re worried about being left out of these free item giveaways, the solution is simple: buy gems decently often like the people who got kites, and you’ll get the reward when it comes as well.
If they announced beforehand that from x date to x date, if you buy gems, you will receive x item, people would buy $10 worth of gems just so they could get the free $5 item, and may not buy gems at times when they know they won’t get free stuff from it. It’s a way of saying thanks to those who, without expecting additional rewards, decided to help continue to fund Anet, and I see nothing wrong with it.
I received the wind kite today in my mail, and I am absolutely loving it thus far, plus I also got the free pet pack during dragon bash as well. However, it has been some time since I purchased gems now, so it’s entirely possible I may miss the next free giveaway, and I’m not at all mad about that. I know I could buy gems right now, and probably easily find something to use them on, but I have never, and will never buy gems specifically for the purpose of trying to get handouts from Anet. That’s why I think their current freebie system is working just fine; it rewards those who support them regardless of whether they get handouts or not.
PS – Thanks for the kite Anet!
I really don’t see why people could think precursors are in a bad spot right now. Yes, they are extremely expensive, but that’s to be expected, with them being a key part of creating one of the hardest and most time consuming weapons in the game.
I quit GW2 shortly after reaching lvl 80 on my thief, which took me probably 3-4 weeks to do after the game was originally released. Fastforward 4-5 months, I was looking for an MMO to play, as I had been grinding way too kitten the other game I played at the time (Final Fnatasy XI), and I decided to hop on GW2 again and see what new content it had to offer. Long story short, I fell in love with playing guardian, got 80 a couple weeks later, and after 2 months of general gameplay, doing all the boss chests every day, and farming orr events before the nerf, I was able to get all 250 ectos, all my clovers, 99% map completion (still waiting for the last few wvw spots I need), as well has hundreds of gold. Now, just recently to solidify my choice to pursue a legendary, I sold all of my ectos and t6 mats (had ~100-150 of each mat, and my toon had only been created for ~2.5 months at the time), and used that gold + what was in my bank to buy a dawn for about 460g.
Now, I understand not everyone has the time to camp all the dragon chests every day, and in that case, the legendary will take you substantially longer than others that are more hardcore, but making precursors easier to obtain is just asking for the easy way out. Just imagine how many precursor/legendary owners would quit the game if Anet decided to release a patch that made the item they paid 400-600+ gold for worth only a hundred or two. The backlash would be terrible from the portion of the community that already own these weapons, and considering that people who own legenadaries are some of the people that play GW2 most, and probably buy a good chunk of gems as well, it would be a terrible move on Anet’s part.
I guess my point is, whether you’re going at it with a hardcore perspective, or you’re a casual player, legendaries are obtainable, it just depends on how much time you personally want/can put into the game on any given day to work towards that goal. Just a quick example of how quick things can go if you grind like a monster: a guy in my guild farmed CoF p1 14+ hours a day for 2 weeks straight, and was able to buy a legendary after the fact, while some people in my guild who don’t grind like that have been working for over half a year and are just getting close. When I bought my dawn a week or so ago, I spent literally all of my gold on it, and since then through getting achievement chests, doing daily drag chests, and farming some orr temple events, I’m already back to to 40-50g…just in 1 week.
Obviously, an endless grind isn’t that fun, but there are almost no MMOs where the best in slot items (I only say this because the skins are so rare, and look better than most weapons of that type, they obviously aren’t better stat-wise) are obtained doing something fun. It’s either grinding the same dungeon/event over and over for items, grind the same raid/boss over and over to hopefully get the drop, or going through a ton of smaller, time-consuming challenges like we have here. The only way I can see them making getting a legendary fun, is if they implemented a system where you don’t have to grind or repeat anything, as most people will get bored of doing the same content over and over no matter what it is. But if they get rid of the grind/repetitive aspects of hunting down a legendary, that would just leave a lot of short events/quests, which would make them much easier to obtain than Anet wants them to be.
What I have learned over the past couple of months is that when you play solely for getting a legendary, it makes the game feel like an endless grind, so just try and have fun while making money; camp drag chests with guild mates, do guild dungeons, work on achievements in areas that can provide you with gold while buffing you your AP for the new reward system chests, etc. When your focus is having fun, the grind becomes much less of a problem, and that’s the only hard part about getting a legendary – getting burnt out grinding before actually finishing it.
If the pick wasn’t soul bound I would buy it. However, considering that I explore/do pve on most of my toons, that would require me to spend $40-50 just to guarantee I would be able to use the pick whenever I mine, no matter which character I am on at the time. Spending almost what the game is worth in money on pickaxes seems like a huge ripoff, and it doesn’t make sense to me to only buy 1 pickaxe, as I don’t have 1 toon which I consider a main that I play more often than my other characters.
I chose the classes that I thought would be the most fun to play. I don’t see why you would think that one’s sex plays any role in determining what classes they enjoy playing on this game though.
I personally don’t care at all about dueling in this game, but I understand that some people enjoy proving that their kitten is bigger than friend’s/random players. I think a good way to implement it would be to add a separate area in LA that you have to zone into like an instance that would be solely for dueling. That way the majority of players that don’t care about dueling wouldn’t have to deal with duel requests/editing their game options to not allow duel requests, while still giving PVP fans a place where they can all smack on each other.
I have been at 80 on my main for a few weeks now, and I sometimes do find myself twiddling my thumbs in the bank, wondering what to do next. After reading the rest of the posts in this thread, I feel as though upwards gear progression isn’t the way to go (as most seem to), as I have experienced that in other MMOs, and it just turns it into an endless grind to fill all your slots with BIS items.
However, one thing I would like to see in the game to bring some more life into it would be more 70+ zones, and a wider variety of skins. Currently, if I want to farm, or do events in a zone that’s my level, I have to go deal with the ugliness that is orr, or frostgorge sound (which isn’t all that bad I guess). I understand orr is supposed to be evil, as it’s the home of zhitan’s minions, but the zones all just look like a coral reef after an oil spill, and the lack of a variety of mobs makes the zone as a whole repetitive, ugly to the eyes, and not fun to explore.
Another thing that would be nice, as I mentioned earlier, is more weapon and armor skins. Currently, the amount of people wearing the exact same dungeon/TP armor is ridiculous, and a lot of the weapon skins are very lack-luster. In any MMO, people like to differentiate themselves from others with what they wear, and currently, the amount of people running around with flaming greatswords and armor, as well as the other common dungeon sets is excessive. If they were to add some more sets of armor that really looked really unique, were difficult to earn, and had the same stats as other exotics sets, I feel that a lot of lvl 80 players would be happy putting their time into obtaining it.
Also, another cool idea that someone mentioned earlier in the thread was earned armor customization of some sort. I don’t really know what it could include, but possibly being able to buy auras around certain pieces, have particle effects, add things like glowing jewels to armor, or something else along those lines. My point is, if they not only added new skins for armor and weapons, but also added a means of further customizing and personalizing your armor, it would add a lot more to do at 80 without compromising the same stats for all way that Anet does things.
Just my 2 cents on the issue. I still am having fun playing the game at 80 as is though, so any improvements that don’t directly make the game worse will be appreciated by myself

Well, my first character was a human male thief, which I made the first day the game was out. A month after the game was released, most my friends who played it had quit, so I followed suit and quit since I didn’t have people to talk to/do stuff with.
Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago when I was sick during Spring Break with an excessive amount of free time on my hands. I decided to pick the game back up to fill in some of that time, only this time I wanted to try to mix it up when my new toon. I made a norn female guardian thinking that it would be substantially different than my glass-cannon thief was, and thankfully, I was right.
While leveling, my survivability was better than my thief’s, which became more and more apparent as I continued to level higher and higher into the levels that my thief really started getting hit hard at. I first geared myself as a tank sporting mace/shield and 2h sword, but eventually I got tired of watching others outscale me in DPS by a great amount.
It was around the point where I hit 80 that I decided to pick up a 100% offensive build to try and raise my DPS. This was nice, since the guard kit allowed for me to have some survivability through traits/6-0 abilities, but on higher lvl mobs, I ended up being hurt a little too badly for my taste. I did some research into other’s guardian builds, and put together my current build, which combines power, pres, toughness, vitality, and crit dmg in the same set. Using that hybrid of DPS and tank stats, along with a fun solo PvE trait build allowed me to reach the perfect level of both tankiness and damage.
Since then, I have been having a blast running around using my 2h sword + Scepter/torch build, which is why I now consider my guardian to be my main character. I never really had an interest in playing a mage/ranged class, as I’m not a huge WvW player, and I like being in the thick of combat. So, unless I try out a class like warrior and just fall in love with it, I believe I will always consider my guardian my “main” from now on. Alos, I’m starting to work towards the sunrise legendary, so that just gives me even more inspiration to continue playing my guardian.
