If necro get a self harm elite spec that gives the conditions in exchange for powerful effects Anet better change epidemic to instead of spreading condis from a foe to others around them to spread condis from the necro to foes around the necro.

Why not name it Well of the kitten ed and have it pulse 3stacks of torment(5s), weakness(10s),and Taunt for 10s. With a 80s cd and a dark field(since Anet won’t give us any better ones). Could use it to peel opponents of your team and set them up for your to well bomb or epidemic them if you or a team mate stacked some condis on one of enemies. Could also use it to pull foes to you just to staff 5 them away to keep them off balanced.

Reapers are WAY to tanky

in PvP

DarkMezmer.5198

Wait, they’ve finally found a way to make Necro’s legit tanky without blocks/evades/reflects??

IS THE BWE STILL ON!? I HAVE TO SEE THIS FIRSTHAND BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!

That’s what I get for sticking with VB the whole weekend…

Anyway, seriously now, I hope they wait until after the next BWE before doing any sort of knee-jerk nerfs to this (and not just so I can have the chance to go Tonberry on soloq pugs in spvp) Just to see if this might be a LTP issue. As it has been mentioned several times before, the prevailing strategy in group fights has always been “Shoot the Necro first” and Blighter’s Boon as it is on its own throws that idea out the window. I obviously can’t speak about the 1v1 situation with any experince (since I’ve admitted I haven’t done any PvP for this BWE) but with the loudest complainers being those who are bringing condition builds to fight a Necromancer, I wonder if they can elaborate how their current experience with Reapers compares to their normal experience fighting Celest Signet Necros.

If they do think BB needs a nerf… I think there is already a precedent for traits that activate X number of times in a second. That sounds like the best way to go if the current version proves to be untenable without giving it a hard ICD.

Also, Ithilwen? I get the feeling you don’t know what a Diamond Skin Ele actually is. Which is understandable, since they are semi-rare atm. Diamond Skin is an Earth Magic trait that makes Ele’s Condi-Immune (as in, conditions cannot be applied on them) as long as their HP is above the 90% threshold. Coupled with some of your classic Celestial Water/Arcana traits to keep HP above that level, and it’s basically the closest thing to a hard counter on condition builds as exists in the game.

Loved the tonberry reference cuz it’s exactly how reaper looks and feels. Now only if we can get a giant chef knife GS skin…

Dagger/X + Axe/X?

I use axe/dagger on my offset over staff cuz I trait and use skills for condi removal and transfers. Plus the retal helps with additional damage while in DS mix with my spec armor and VP for defs. The extra vuln from axe#1 and lifeblast can really up my damage output before I switch to dagger to just cleave and stick to them like glue with dag#3 or locust swarm.

Robert, can melee minions cleave?

in Necromancer

Posted by: DarkMezmer.5198

DarkMezmer.5198

… Why? The Necro himself can still cleave just as good regardless of skilling minions or not. The only skills that add “cleave” is wells – which has other flaws compared to minions. MM is in a good place for its specific purpose, single target/small groups. You dont want to make something good at everything, or you end up with an Elementalist. And nobody like Elementalists.

How would having 2 minions(flesh golem and shadow fiend) cleave 3 targets suddenly make MM good at everything?

Staff really isn’t mandatory if you use dagger and locust swarm to help build LF. Axe even though it lacks some damage can still preform well if you know how and when use axe#2. Don’t really need to say much about axe#3 since the retal, cripple, and boon strip just makes for a nice setup for fighting mesmers and thieves.

Shouts are cool but...

in Necromancer

DarkMezmer.5198

Shouts work perfectly with what we’re getting, and our shouts absolutely need a cast time (though many of them were too long when shown to us). If they lower the cast times of the shouts to 3/4s-1s and make sure to appropriately balance the effects they’ll be fine, at least 3 of them had the potential to be really strong abilities.

Really optimistic a bought Anet not screw shouts up aren’t we Bhawb

Why so much complain from necroes?

in Necromancer

Posted by: DarkMezmer.5198

DarkMezmer.5198

@MidoriMarch The reason behind so many necro complaints is because of the mountain of nerfs and bad design choices that plague necromancers. You can search the subforum and find thread after thread on every single nerf from the recent chilling darkness to god awful minion ai. The most common thing about all of them is that some of the nerfs were based off of perfect theoretical situations that would never come up. So when you have to deal with issues like these constantly for a product you paid for yeah you are going to get complaints.

My suggestion is to change Signet of Undeath to:
Passive: gain 2% LF when activating a skill in combat only with a 2s icd
Active: turns necro into a shadowy form that makes you immune to physical damage for 4-6s with a 80s cd untraited.

You would get some LF just for successfully get your skills off, get additional LF added to skills that give you LF already or when they’re traited to do so. The active gives you a invuln that can let you survive being focused down. You would still have access to your other skills and could pair the active with a wurm or special walk port to get out of a bad situation or use the few seconds to try to get a heal off when you need it.

DarkMezmer.5198

Gain Life Force every time you cast a spell. Life Force gained: 1%?

This would be awesome for Signet of Undeath’s passive effect, actually.

That could be insanely good passive for this Signet. I would put some small 1s ICD on it, however and bump it to 2-3%. Otherwise it would be balanced around Dagger and subpar for Scepter and Staff.

+1, full support.

Why not make SoU like ranger’s signet of stone with the passive being: 2% lf gained when using a skill with a 2s icd
Active: puts you in a shadowy, undeath like state that makes you immune to physical damage for 4-6s on a 80s cd untraited.
With this you could get some ok lf generation that’s not op due to the cast time on our skills and a active that can keep you alive during oh kitten moments when focused. Not to mention pairing this with plague signet to toss all the condis that will be put on you back to an opponent or use the invuln time to let your siphons heal you up a bit then jump into ds or wurm port away.

Well with the new Rise shout it might be possible to get 6 death novas off if the initial 5 kills a foe which then spawn another horror which will die creating another death nova. Adding bone minions on with putrid explosion at best that’s 8 novas going off in a very short time frame with just 2 utilities skills. As a necro player I’m not sure if I should be excited about doing this to players or terrified of having other necros doing this to me.

IMA call minion reaper now then. With death nova , the reduced damage from poisoned and chilled foes., inate death shroud damage reduction and protection. You will only take 28% of the damage you usually would with minions and yourself leeching.

^My thoughts exactly when I read the blogpost. Just imagine MM actually jumping into a team fight at graveyard with their golem, bone minions, and using the Rise shout to summon 5 horrors and then have them all die just to get 8 death novas exploding all over the point. The poison carnage will be real.

The GS attacks may be slow, but a full set of shouts means an instant heal and an instant elite. Instant AOE that you can just dodge roll out of. Plus old DS was super slow and easy to blind/dodge/evade/CC, so it isn’t all bad.

I just hope it is effective and not just a noob killer.

I’m reserving final judgement until tomorrow. But so far so good.

oh yeah people forgetting about the Shout Heal skill which likely will be support.

The article mentioned that the shouts serve as attacks. All of them, which should include the heal. I’m guessing the heal will scale on number of enemies hit, allowing a Necro to survive longer against a group by the simple fact that it’s a group. They also say the shouts are more geared towards harming foes than bolstering allies.

Don’t expect group support/might sharing. I personally wouldn’t expect anything at the moment, because the shouts could be anything. They could steal boons from every target hit, they could taunt (giving the slow wind-up abilities a chance to land), one summons little minions (that give what, 10% LF when they die?). Possibilities are open right now.

And if GS cleaves, and shouts do even moderately good damage, their AoE power capabilities could be very high.

I think the shout heal will act either like Mesmer ether feast where you get a decent heal on cast but more life added by number of foes hit or like locust signet just with a better cast time.

Some traits being awkwardly placed and therefore difficult to utilize in a build where they might be useful doesn’t make the traits themselves bad. Why is most people’s immediate reaction when there is an opposing view about a class “this guy obviously hasn’t played it!” I’ve played every class (and mained three); I would not comment on my experience on aspects of a class had I not played it first.

It’s not awkward placing that makes those traits bad it’s the fact that a 30min consumable that out performs said traits that shows there bad.

Heal: “Water!”
Utility 1: “Fire!”

Using them all in succession turns you into captain planet for 30 seconds.

Comedic gold this is and I think elementalist’s will get glamours while necro’s get cantrips with the necro specialization being called dreadlord.

Minion Master Revision (by Sikari & Bhawb)

DarkMezmer.5198

Rising Dusk, before we have more of an empty debate, have you palyed MM in higher end (at least top… 20% – being 80%) tpvp on ranked? If not I don’t think you can possibly fathom the issues we’re even having. Like I said, in a day or two I can make some videos so you know exactly what I’m referring to and why its an issue. Pets don’t need to be killable by everything just to make MMs fair. If anything for the fight to be fair MM pets need to be able to last long enough to be useful. If a single person AOEing all the pets down in seconds and then kill the master as he’s completely defenseless is the “way to kill MM” there will always be an issue.

Not to mention your “turrets are immobile, that’s their weakness” argument is entirely false. That’s a benefit to them… Our pets can bug out and trail behind when roaming. A turret engineer can pick them up for a reduced CD and keep going. OR leave a thumper and trigger its aoe knock back from anywhere else in the map, able to leave support behind. Thats incredibly valuable! Additionally, them being place-able removes most of the terrain issues minions suffer, and they don’t walk blindly into massive hazards (and that includes just raw power damage). These things you’re playing off as disadvantages are absolutely not disadvantages, and I know because I play both.

Yeah would be nice but ofc it won’t happen since anet doesn’t have a clue about improving pet ai for rangers or what exactly they want to do with necro’s in general. There’s a thread in the Necro subforum right now about ways to fix minions done by Bhawb and Sikari that might give some ideas that can be used to Rangers pets as well.

Assuming necro GS skills are about soft cc like chill and weakness you could run a power build with GS and dagger/dagger. Just think of the carnage you could do with hitting opponents with dagger#3 then WoS and GS. You also wouldn’t need to run staff for condi transfer since dagger#4 would handle that plus a blind and not to forget dagger#5 adding more weakness and bleed with dagger#2 hp siphon for when you need to back off for a lil breathing room.

Necromancers Punished For Having Regen

DarkMezmer.5198

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unholy_Sanctuary
this is a regen in DS and scale with healing power
spend some time to make a build with this trait

To even suggest using that trait in a build shows just how much you know about necro’s in this game. First, going 6 in to death magic which is toughness/boon duration traitline for a inside DS health regen trait is odd to begin with. Second, the scaling of the regen even with a ton of healing power is subpar at best and the actual heal is laughable small to even be useful. Third, with 6 points invested in death magic you kitten your self from taking more valuable traits from other traitlines that would give you more benefit for your investment.
These are just some of the top reasons unholy sanctuary fails at its job and I’m sure other necro’s could give you even more reasons why traits like this one and others just plainly suck kitten out of a tube.

DarkMezmer.5198

1. Axe only real purpose is the utility that #3 has in boon stripping, retal getting, and hitting stealth opponents before you jump into DS to make use of the retal.
2. Would like to see CPC destroy projectiles and replace the weakness on it with torment since you really wouldn’t need the weakness in pve and torment would be more useful in most situations.
3. Yes to this but doubt the devs would make it happen.
4. Most of the signets need looking into due to most of them being underwhelming as they are with maybe an exception to spite.
5. Don’t know how much more can be said that pet ai needs fixing before the devs actually do it.

Traits
1. Yes to the cd reduction but would have to see the range increase in action before really critiquing it.
2. Rather keep it as is but increase the duration to 5s and make furious demise the party wide buff.
3. Same as above #3
4. This would have the same problem as close to death as in its inactive in the beginning of a fight where the boosts would be most effective.
5. Can get behind this one as you would still need a high crit chance to get the effect to proc more often which is a boon to the investment you made in going for that crit chance.
6. Love it and wish it was already in the game
7.That 500 hp steal is wasted if during the interval for the trait your being hit for over 2k or more damage from one or multiple opponents. If the cd was maybe 10s then yeah this might be useful.
8. We both know the numbers on the siphons would need to be fixed to make them more worthwhile.
9. As with 8 the numbers on the health steal would need to be adjusted to make it worthwhile for going so deep into blood magic. At least your suggestion makes this grandmaster worthy instead of another trait to just stare at and wish it was better.

Situationaly.Warr signet is just 5might/fury swift, ele gets that easily without elite :-).banner is like any other class got util,i even think our revive glyph at least in water is stronger and longer range…

guardian, erm, tomes are kinda strong in some situations and virtue recharge, well that invulnerability is nice, but unless u trait virtues u wont get much from that…

thief aswell, situationaly, not a reall game changer in my eyes, god knows how many times those poor sods died with that whirling dagger storm under my blade.

mesmer, well i give u that mass inviss and time warp are really strong but CD is quite long aswell.Mass invis can be done by others better “SR,blast smoke field” so not a huge deal

I guess it ends on your preferences,i love elemental elite, thou i would welcome some more reliability in those skills which elementals got.I mean air used to stun now and than, now it seems they either miss a lot,or are hiting something somewhere around just not my target.Same goes to other atunement elementals.Only way they work well is 1v1 situations, and even than its kinda hard to land abils “for me at least”.

Can’t forget necro’s kitten golem, ping pong ball form, or massive bullseye lich form. Such great(lousy) elites there.

Why we can't have nice things.

1. Even with healing and life steal DS would still scale horribly against multiple opponents. So reducing it would be a bad move untill we get things that have been proven to help us in damage mitigation and only then should our amount of lifeforce be tweaked.
2. Healing in DS shouldn’t be reduced for same reason that I mentioned up top in that DS against multiple foes is going to drop fast and most necro’s(myself included) would rather go into DS for those kitten moments and get the full heal provided by our teammates instead of a reduced amount that would just leave us as an even easier focus target than we already are.
3. Like the part of having access to our heal and utilities but don’t like the thought of their effect changes but would have to see what the devs come up with before really judging it.
4. Nothing but yes to this

Leveling Necro is pretty much powermancer builds with some slight variation on traits or minionmancer builds with again some slight trait and gear setups. Personally I would go the minionmancer way with stats in power and vit to keep you healthy since if you die then your minions go byebye. The third stat is your own personal choice for what you think fits your play style.
Run axe/warhorn and staff with axe for vulnerability stacking for your minions and warhorn for swiftness and a daze for oh kitten moments. Staff should keep regen up on you and your minions for awhile with a condition transfer for yourself on #4 and a fear on #5. The best way to get around minions clunky ai is to target a mob and just swing at it a few time to get the minions to target and attack it.

I can tell you what we’re not going to get on it.

1.) Leap/teleport/dash
2.) A block
3.) a way to escape with it.

On another note, My personal prediction for it is that the weapon is going to scale up when attacking more enemies. Much like the way the dervish benefited from its scythe back in GW1, the greatsword for necro is most likely going to be a rather poor 1v1 weapon but scale up as more enemies are introduced. 5 being the cap.

What we might get.

1.) A pull
2.) life stealing in some way
3.) A blast finisher
4.) Some form of control, be it crippling, chilled, immobilizes, fear, stun or knock down.

Put a stack or two of torment on that pull and I’ll be a happy necro. Necro’s can always use more access to torment imo.

Personally I think all the necro’s weapons autos should give LF on their chains to help with LF buildup with the only difference being how much actually builds up based on attack animation.

Ive always felt that lifeforce should build up in pretty much the same way as adrenaline. But obviously not as quickly. So there would be no lifeforce tied to skills (could maybe have some exceptions such as scepter 3). But every hit gives some. Traits could obviously boost this.

Dagger would still have faster lifeforce generation because of its attack speed. But condi builds would be slightly better off. Obviously this could be very overpowered if lifeforce is too generous. So you might have to make DS a bit weaker as well as make the lifeforce per hit very low.

Yeah ofc the amount of LF gained from the hits would have to be tested and adjusted to make sure they don’t get out of hand. Just as long as scepter, staff, and maybe axe see some kind of increase in their lifeforce generation I would be a happy necromancer.

Another thing would be to give necros more access to torment like on staff#3 applying torment and chill instead of poison or maybe replace the bleeds on barbed precision with torment. Maybe I am the one not looking at this right but being able to accept heals in DS is roughly equivalent to having very high invulnerability uptime. Almost no heals in DS make it a CD burning mechanic for skills.

If I traited DS, I could spend half the match turtling and soaking heals from allies. I just think that right now, Necromancer is tuned to survive while missing a lot of heals. Improving siphons is already hard for the balance team.

Yet if you did do as your second point suggest you wouldn’t be contributing much to your team as you would probably need to be chaperoned the entire match by another teammate to just keep you healed which isn’t optimal most of time.

I truly don’t see why there is any argument against necro’s being healed in DS since any healing would go to the necro’s health pool and not DS. Plus with the ability to be healed in DS would just see necros conserving their life force for when they actually need it for either surviving a burst or using it for their spike rotations which if I’m not mistaken is what the concept of DS was supposed to be but instead we got what we have now.
