Hi all,
Today we hit an internal milestone: we locked down all content and feature development for Path of Fire. We now move the game to our staging servers and start final preparations for launch.
This expansion is all about content, and today’s milestone marks the completion of eighteen months of content creation. It’s been a labor of love for the team. We hope we’ve brought each story chapter, each open-world zone, and each mount up to the level of what you experienced in the demos last month.
Thanks to everyone who joined the demos and the stress tests. We used those tests to inform our final balance tweaks, and to squash some bizarre bugs that we could only reproduce under heavy load, like the one where Raptors would randomly show up in non-demo maps.
We’re in the home stretch. Eleven days to launch! We can’t wait to play Path of Fire with you!

Hello! It’s been so long since I posted here – I’ve been working hard to improve my work, and I just wanted to say hello and share the commissions I have had the honor to work on
That skelk oil is a heck of a drug. :/
That’s a fair question. The Preview Weekend is a chance for anyone to experience the first part of Path of Fire. Even if they’re not a Guild Wars 2 player, they can dive in an see how things look in Tyria. However, the Preview Weekend is not an early start or anything of that nature, and naturally attainments and acquisitions will be wiped before the launch of Path of Fire on September 22, 2017.
I hope you can join us for the Preview Weekend. I can’t wait for you to see the Crystal Desert and have a look at some of the starter content!

Until the news post I was 100% certain that this would be just like the HoT beta weekends, where we’d get a duplicate character and all progress on that duplicate would be wiped at the weekend’s conclusion.
But “You’ll be able to play the first part of the Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire story, which will kick off your journey to the Crystal Desert. Once you arrive, the Crystal Oasis map is yours to explore. Take in the sights, unlock the raptor mount, and have fun with other players!” is ambiguous. If it said “let you experience the start” or some such, it would be more clearly a test session.
I’m still 99% sure no preview progress will convey to live accounts when the weekend’s done, but I’d appreciate ANet clarification on this.
(Yes, I know the answer will be “obvious” in the opinion of many, but I can see it being argued either way, hence my calling it ambiguous. I’m not reading anything into it one way or another, I just had my 100% certainty shaken by the phrasing and would like it restored so I know how to approach the initial session ).
Ok folks, this has been a very productive conversation and I would like to thank you all for participating! Our EU folks have sent me the top list for EU players and I have pulled down all the suggestions in this thread as of right now. I still need to pour through the Reddit thread suggestions as well, but my spread sheet is already up around 3k lines (includes duplicate suggestions) just from this thread and it is clear that there is a large consensus on many items. Since I am primarily leading the Living World teams, which is a fast paced and high energy project, with this as a side project it’s going to take me at least a couple weeks to fully sort through all the suggestions and come up with a plan. As of this moment, consider this thread closed and once I have completed my work, I’ll kick off a new thread with the results.
We wanted to let you know that the Shadow of the Mad King (Halloween) festival will end in one week, on November 8, 2016. I hope you have a blast — as I know I will — in this final week of the festivities.
Enjoy!!

I’ve been waiting to see a suggestion thread for a long time about this topic that ArenaNet will actually look into. I went though my entire Bank and picked out items that are specifically used in crafting something through either general Crafting or the Mystic Forge. Some of the items may be old and discontinued, but that does not excuse them from not having a slot in storage like they should’ve had since they were first introduced into the game. Any items that have a weaker link to this rule or the possible tab placement will include my personal reason on why they should be included.
Common Crafting Materials
- Milling Basin
- Crystalline Bottle
- Bag of Mortar
- Philosopher’s Stone
- Mystic Crystal
- Siege Novice’s Guide
- Siege Grandmaster’s Guide
- Sheet of Coarse Paper (Fine quality, but other crafting refinement goes here)
- Sheet of Rough Paper (Same as above)
- Sheet of Fine Paper (Same as above)
- Sheet of Smooth Paper (Same as above)
- Sheet of Quality Paper (Same as above)
- Sheet of Premium Paper (Same as above)
Fine Crafting Materials
- Blade Shard
- Shimmering Crystal
- Tenebrous Crystal
Rare Crafting Materials
- Elonian Wine
- Eldritch Scroll
- Icy Runestone
- Badge of Tribute
- Unidentified Fossilized Insect
- Essence of Time
- Golden Fractal Relic
Ascended Materials
- Augur’s Stone
- Anthology of Heroes
- Lesser Vision Crystal
- Vision Crystal
- Integrated Fractal Matrix (Doesn’t have a use for crafting, but it’s a refined Stabilizing Matrix)
- Dynamic Assault Knight Power Core
- Static Assault Knight Power Core
- Synergetic Assault Knight Power Core
- Legendary Insight
Gemstones and Jewels
- Copper Doubloon
- Silver Doubloon
- Gold Doubloon
- Platinum Doubloon
- Amalgamated Gemstone (Isn’t classified as a Gemstone upgrade component, but the most logical tab name)
Cooking Materials
- Indigo Mushroom
Festive Materials
- Wad of Enchanted Stuffing
- Drop of Magic Glue
- Mystical Cog
- Ugly Wool Socks (Currency, but used by Mystic Forge and a salvage result item)
- Ugly Wool Hats (Same as above)
- Ugly Wool Sweaters (Same as above)
- Jorbreaker (Piece of Zhaitaffy’s answer to Candy Corn Cob, why do we have the one but not the other?)
I know this thread is just for the Material Storage, but I can’t help but toss in suggestions for the Wallet as well, since I feel like they are grouped together despite being different systems. Again most of them are probably discontinued, but I felt like I should round them all up regardless.
Wallet
- Pact Victory Token
- Captain’s Council Commendation
- Fortune Scrap
- Queen’s Gauntlet Entrance Ticket
- Festival Token
- Mordrem Bloom
- Custom Arena Time Token
- Reclaimed Metal Plate
- Chak Egg
- Blood Ruby (Remove salvage. Allow players to buy a bundle of Unbound Magic for 1)
- Petrified Wood (Same as above)
This next section I feel is more important to find a solution for. The best way to implement them would either be an additional tab in the Material Storage or a second tab next to the account Wallet on the Inventory window. It’s Keys.
Key Storage/Wallet
- Completed Aetherkey
- Zephyrite Lockpick
- Bandit Skeleton Key
- Key of Greater Nightmares
- Pact Crowbar
- Exalted Key
- Chak Acid
- Machete
Lastly, these last few items I’ve been already seeing people mention in their suggestions. I wanted to share my thoughts against them being included as materials.
- Aetherkey Piece, Essence of Nightmares, Pile of Silky Sand, Fractal Research Pages.
These items are weird because they double-click and become a completely different item. We have that system already in the Material Storage with Mordrem/Evergreen, but those items at least stay in the same section. I think these are fine to leave outside of any Storage section.
- Bauble, Bauble Bubble, Continue Coin.
These are a mixture of Currencies with some used in Crafting. I don’t think these have a place getting changed because it could mess up how Super Adventure Box functions regarding the Bauble Purse and where it pulls Continue Coins. My thoughts are to leave these as-is.
- Legendary Gifts.
I don’t feel like these have a place here at all. Almost every Legendary Gift is crafted from items in the Material Storage and the only reason you would ever have them is if you were crafting the specific Legendary shortly afterwards. The only Gift that people could have a surplus of is the Gift of Exploration, but even that one seems like a rare case.
Apologies for this being a massive shopping list of items and thoughts. It would be many huge strides forward if we can get the Material Storage (and eventually Wallet) to a solid consistency. Very glad you wanted to get community feedback on this subject and really appreciate the chance to get our responses heard.
We are so happy that this event is taking place again this year. Thanks to everyone who is involved, and to all who contribute to such a worthy cause!

This thread is great because you can see all the people that don’t read the OP.
Tycho Snowpaw – Guardian
Gandara – [WvW]
Just to confirm: Hobo-Tron is absolutely Job-o-Tron from May’s Southsun Cove content—same model, same voice, same character, with a new name that reflects his new status.
As ReMortis and Meriem noted, when he lost his gig as the employment surveyor for the Consortium, he fell on hard times. Bit of poetic justice, really.
Please repurpose him as a Bank Golem or something, I feel bad for the little guy.
He isn’t bad, he was just programed incorrectly.
NONSENSE! Turn him into that norn’s pet! Rename him Hunt-a-Tron or something. He’ll understand what adventure really is and say things like “never felt so alive” “where are we traveling next, master” (just throw some wit in there :P).
An unusual norn hunter and his capitalistic-turned hobo-turned adventurer pet golem
btw: this is a SERIOUS SUGGESTION. Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it!

Massive revision in progress, please be patient while the thread is updated.
While you wait, take a look at some of the burn-conscious build threads people have been coming up with since the update:
messiah.1908: Why hybrid is the new you
Blasino.3128: Blasino Burning Build
Sammpo.2763: Condition Guardian PvP Build
Painbow.6059: Ignore what anyone else who doesn’t agree with me has said because its wrong.

I think the best sollution – one that keeps the same currency functionality, while removing the bag clutter – is to make Currencies no longer occupy Inventory Space BUT remain Account Wide.
Right now, you can farm AC with character A to get your character B some level 80 gear and nice skins.
This change would keep that functionality.
Please don’t change all dungeon currencies into 1 type.
I’d like to make a suggestion regarding currencies, al though I’m not sure if such topic has been created before, as I’ve searched this forum for such topic.
So, the curencies e.g. the ones you get from Dungeon explore mode and any other type of currencies (except Coin • Gem • Glory • Influence • Karma • Laurel), if those currencies could be put in a tab, rather than in your bags.
Since a lot of items like, harvesting items, gear, “fun” items and any other useful items, fills up your bags at an alarming rate. You might say, make bigger bags… But that wouldn’t be necessary if at least all the dungeon currencies, etc, could be put into a separate tab, which doesn’t share with your bag space.
It might not free a lot of bag space, but it can also view all your currencies in a nice layout to easily spot and calculate how much of this and that currency you need, for a certain item.
Coinin, probably you are better than any other man in the world so you read everything and you never are wrong.
Unfortunately I’m not like you and I did that mistake. The support team won’t refund my relics and they won’t replace the second useless ring with another one. This is part of the last answer from the support team: “We’re working to expand our system to allow individual item/character restorations as quickly as possible”.
Any other “big” game has that kind of support so I expect they will implement it in a few weeks.
I made the same mistake. This is very badly implemented.
The problem is the game allows you to “soulbind” and equip the identical ascended jewelry anyway; which implies that you can wear both. Then surprise surprise; the game actually unequips your original piece of jewelry. This is terrible programming.. The game should not be removing my gear to allow me to soulbind a second unique item; it should instead give some kind of warning.
I petitioned to get the item replaced with one that I could use; but I was told that they do not have the tools necessary to perform such reimbursements. Very frustrating.
I have to say, if ANet does ban people for this, I will be very disappointed. It’s not greifing, it;s not an exploit and it’s not cheating.
From the Guild Wars 2 rules of conduct that you agree to when signing up to play the game:
While participating in Plaver-vs-Player (PvP) gameplay, you will not participate in any form of match manipulation. Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match or alter or manipulate the rankings or ratings of the ladder. This also includes disrupting other people’s game experience by not actively participating in matches in good faith, a.k.a leeching.
Burning thousands of supply by building siege weapons that are not removable in order to make it impossible for a server to defend high value capture points is in fact griefing, cheating, and goes against both the letter and spirit of the agreement signed. When done consistently it has a direct effect on WvW point totals and thus match outcomes – this is both a form of match manipulation AND disruptive to other people’s game experience.
I find it disturbing that there are people like you that don’t see this.

Hey there Wuvers,
It’s my pleasure to introduce to you Devon Carver, the new coordinator of the WvW team. Devon is an excellent designer and is passionate about WvW so I know that both the team and WvW are in good hands. As I step away to focus on other projects you’ll be seeing more of Devon here in the WvW forums so please give him a warm WvW welcome!
I’ll see you on the battlefield!
:habib
Noooo ! I was planing to send you and Mike T-shirts with this on them but you already abandoned the ship :(
WvW – Structure Upgrade Re-Work idea!
WvW – Art of War Guild Buffs & Keep Claiming Re-Work idea!
It means that there is, once again, no good reason to have an alt.
Disagree. You can park an alt at every dragon/mega boss and switch to them when the pre-event starts. No need to spend anything to map into the waypoint. You don’t need a decked-out 80 to survive a boss kill. You could even name your alt after the boss he stands around waiting to kill.
As I’ve said before – I am not on the balance team… at best I can present things and harp on issues and constantly bring them up to keep them in focus, and to remind the people on the team and who make the decisions in the end that it is an issue that needs to get resolved. I’m a dungeon content designer who plays ranger at a high level, and that is why I am in the meetings, to be a representative for that sect (for lack of a better word).
This thread and my presence really isn’t damage control, otherwise I would have failed pretty hard at it in business terms. Making a visible list of issues to bring up with devs and allowing non-devs to see it isn’t exactly good damage control since it can set up high expectations, and the only reason this thread has reached the size it has (I feel) Is because I am posting in it; drawing even more attention that the topic would have garnered otherwise. So if anything my coming here has served only to shine a brighter light on the improvements needed to the ranger/pet/player dynamic (trademark).
So I want to ask people, and I want you to be honest with yourselves as you answer: Do you feel that you can trust every word the developers say? Or do you approach their announcements as I do with quite a bit of caution and skepticism these days?
I treat the words of the devs as a if they were coming from a really skilled weather forecaster. They indicate a current trend, but they are subject to unexpected change/reduction/magnification. I know that in the end, every piece of software that is released by a company is subject to a number of influences beyond just “what would make the product more awesome.” The good companies try to limit that effect, but in the end…
Let me tell you this… Right this second, my boss and one of his peers are in a meeting with others who are a part of their “leadership team.” They are arguing to make sure that my team (software engineers, designers, product directors) are given the time we need to fix our current product. That product was released too early, so it’s had bugs that have been around too long and is nowhere near as awesome as we intended it to be. At the same time, other members of that meeting will be arguing that the rest of the company is stalled while they’re waiting on us to get things going. There’s some value in both perspectives.
I imagine the same things are happening on a daily basis at Anet.

Yah, sadly it says that the characters are specific to it. So Tybalt remains either dead or awol. I’m more interested in:
“Aside from the Living Story main characters, we’ll also be surprising you with interesting villains, one of whom will become your personal nemesis. Again, no spoilers allowed, so I can’t tell you more than that, but you’ll recognize this sassy character when you see…um, him/her/it. <grin>”
Theories on who it might be?
It’s obviously Logan. Dressed as a sassy black Charr lady. Yeah.
My giant Norn “Dazlin”, complete with pink S&M gear and Princess Wand.. Pretty intimidating dude.. (he rocks a scary quaggan pack too but you can’t see in the pic)
Note to new Guardians: we are not a “trinity” DPS class either, or a tank. So if you want to heal, heal, if you want to DPS, DPS, if you want to “tank” (you really can’t in the sense of always drwaing aggro), build up a lot of armor/toughness.
Let people play whichever way they want. Heals work well for Guardian. The important thing is that they realize they can also apply offensive boons, defensive boons, and attack the enemy while they heal. I sincerely doubt anyone who focus on heals with their Guardian sits on their back while watching health bars. They also attack, support, etc.
Why I kind of resent this type of thread? Because indirectly it praises direct damage over any of the many other options the Guardian has, even beyond healing. There’s no true healer role in GW2, BUT there’s no all-DPS role either-players should feel free to play their Guardian without anyone telling them they should not heal/invest in Healing Power, because “there’s no healer role” (then they shouldn’t invest in damage either, because there’s no DPS role…, etc.)
Again DPS IS an ok way to play-just let other people play whatever they wish too, even if it focuses a lot on heals-they will still be contributing to the party’s progress in other ways that are both fun to them and effective.
…but if you want to be a trinity healer, go water ele.
Not sure this is sound advice… telling people this will just turn ineffective guardians into ineffective elementalists!
If you want to be a trinity healer, go different game.
If they are going to be ineffective then point them to the eles. That way we Guardians don’t get the bad press.

You can’t sell an item for less than vendor cost, so why give people the ability to order half the items in the game for 1 copper, it’s annoying. Also the listing fee should the factored in when calculating weather an item is being sold for less than vendor cost, a few times I’ve almost went and sold something for less than vendor cost cuz the initial sell value was higher than vendor but cost after listing fee is lower than vendor.
Wondering if there is a significant reason that the forum topic listings have no date or timestamp. It appears that “most recent” is on top, however, it seems a bit frustrating to have to click in to a topic to have an idea of the timeframe of it.
I think this is the forum where such a suggestion would belong.
I believe it would be a useful improvement to see timestamp or date at least of a topic, on the forum main listings. A timestamp of a last post next to by whom, seems to be a bit of a standard.
What are your thoughts…?
(edited by HyperPhlex.8073)
It’s not rocket science, and it’s not even sarcastic. A player will prioritize what is important to them. Those bemoaning the TP and the perceived unfavorable rising costs are simply dissatisfied that the chosen means to their desired ends are not falling within their own expectations. In other words, they’re not getting their way, so, they’re sad pandas.
I agree with you, and I hate to say this, but…. Isn’t that the point of these forums and of almost every post on them?
“I didn’t like what happened to me in the game. I’m a sad panda.”
“I liked what happened to me in the game. I’m a happy kangaroo.”
So, the question simply becomes one of “Are there enough sad pandas for ANet to feel a change is justified.” Who can tell? If the answer is “Yes”, then the question becomes, “How do we make the sand pandas happy without alienating the happy kangaroos.” And see, this right here, is why most of us would make terrible zoo-keepers.

By the way, spinning camera can cause virtual motion sickness in some players.
My wife has not yet been in a dungeon since the changes (the way it’s been changed is really discouraging), but I expect it to pretty much stop her from doing dungeons if the camera spins constantly while dead. Please let people turn this off in the options.
The spinning death cam is annoying. It would be better to be able to click a party member and get the view from their eyes ala GW1, or be able to adjust your own camera to see what you would like to see.
