this is the problem of gw2 even if it was a sarcasm. many people don’t even take it seriously anymore. so wake up go find new games and get into PvP again. gw2 just isn’t the PvP game anymore. there are alot better games out there.

I have been clean from Gw2 for a bit and I can say the pvp state is so bad I wont come back until they make a good patch. If you leave it you will understand gw2 is going backwards while the world is moving forward.

same here. i left gw2 abit just to come back and see the same (or even worse) state of pvp. makes you wonder why anet doesn’t really take care of their game. now at this point i don’t really care anymore. but only the good pvp balance patch would make me come back. like literally take everything that you did with HoT and re-make it. as in -
1-make Elite specs an OPTION not a necessity.
2-make atleast 4-5 viable builds per class that are good enough to stay competetive (u know.. like it was 2 years ago or so. nothing was too op nothing was too weak) cuz now build diversity is totally gone.

work on these 2 major points and i think GW2 would revive itself slowly but surely.

but for now we can all agree that it’s just rolling down the hill ever since HoT. take a step back (3-4months break) from gw and u’ll surely see it’s goin backwards.

Want full ascended? Buy all ingredients to craft it all in 10 minutes with gems (by converting gems to gold).
New to game but want level 80? No problem, pay someone with gems (sending gifts) or just send them gold, because you can actually buy gold with gems (quite an awesome feature).
You like winning in PvP? No problem. Bribe an enemy player with gold, to make the game 4v5, and you will clearly win (because the game is extremely balanced, and 1 missing player counts a lot).
Hell, in this game if you got 4k gems to spend, I can do whatever you want me to. Buy me. I am all yours if the price is right.

I know people who litteraly bought all legendary weapons and ascended gear with gems (by using a secret feature called converting gems into gold).

Advice: open Gem Store, select second tab called Currency Exchange, and buy gold using gems. That is a super secret awesome feature, it’s overpowered, but you did not hear it from me.

u my friend deserve a cookie. that’s exactly how 80% of players who have legendary weaps / ascended gear play the game. real life job → credit card → gems to gold → all done and ready to show off. skin wars2. quite pathetic if u ask me tho.. but it is how it is. basically an official and legit way of gold spammers.

Build Diversity is still a problem, and certain traitlines are still required.

Why is Anet still ignoring this?

Mesmer

Inspiration is required

Druid

Bm/Nm/Druid – Staff still required.

Elementalist

Earth and Water/ Tempest Still required.

Scrapper

Alchemy required.

Necromancer

Blood Magic or Soul Reaping required. Soul reaping has been the longest offender since launch.

Warrior

Discipline Required. Always has been.

All I am saying is that, if you have 1 or 2 traitlines required in every build, there will forever be no build diversity. Anet needs to fix the useless ones while prioritizing which comes first so that every traitline/trait/weapon/utility will be competent enough.

Ex: I just have no idea why Anet still buffs ele dagger (which is a staple in every build like focus) while ignoring Warhorn which is utter trash.

All classes – elite HoT spec required.

then it becomes like that:

Thief – Trickery/DD required.
Mesmer – Inspiration/Chrono required
Guard – DH/Valor required

bleeeeh. who cares. just #3#3#3#3 and #4#4#4 to interrupt. Anet rly showed after HoT that stealth is not the way to go. so just use D/P but play with it like an old S/D style and focus on evading. besides there nothing more annoying then landing ur #4 at the perfect moment..

but srsly tho. this nerf wasnt needed. i was expecting a buff for thieves and yet we got nerfed.

all it takes for anet is to look back at gw2 pre HoT. maybe even pre June patch 2015. those weren’t the best times but still.. atleast more then 1 or 2 builds were viable for each class. zerker mesmer? sure. go for it. condi mesmer? sure. as good as zerker. condi guard? sure. OP. medi guard? sure. even better. anyway no idea tho.. anet has to figure things out somehow. but i guess looking back at stuff is the way to go. like.. maybe bring old trait system. make more choices available and mixed up builds/traits. changing trait system would be a start.

Specifically, that it’s hard to tell what is going on half the time. Important abilities, buffs, etc, are hard to track because there aren’t very definitive animations for them that are clear. Buff bar is extremely small and most of the time things like might/regen/etc aren’t visually represented.

I want to get good at it, but in all honesty, I can’t even tell what is going on half the time until after it happens.

If you don’t think that is true, ask yourself, if you were a person who never played GW2 and watched the pvp in it, could you figure out what was happening, where damage was coming from, and what classes seemed to be doing?

I’m not saying you’d know the exact mechanics, but if you can’t tell what is going on in a game, it’s a good indicator that it is not well presented.

man oh man…. where do i begin..

okey. first things first. “PvP awareness”. “PvP experience”. these things don’t just come after 1 or 2 weeks. i’ve been living in PvP for like 3 years. awareness and reaction i managed to kinda “master” just after like 3 to 4 months. so don’t just expect to dive into it and be good. tho i gotta say… HoT is a disgrace to PvP and GW2 in general. pre-HoT u needed to actually react quick and figure out your opponents build (yes – there were alot more builds back then. now in HoT we got just meta tunnel-minded builds. its basically clone wars 2 now.) so if you are a new player it’s really really easy to figure out what your opponent will do. like 99% of players. hell 100%. are using the same builds. so just study a lil and in like 1week u’ll be able to react to every move of your opponent. tho it doesn’t mean u’ll be able to win.. but thats another point. i’d say when it comes to awareness time is everything. and well.. just studying other classes skills/traits. but now another point…………..

so yea…second things second… GW2 being Gw2:HoT.. you’ll have another problem. even if u’ll master your countering techniques… you won’t win. yup. its that simple. depending on your class some classes you just won’t manage to take down. some people call it balance. i call it BS. even if you will reach a very skilled ceiling.. u won’t win against some classes that might be even 1 week players. so then my question to you is .. does it even matter to try hard and to learn everything? cuz in the end.. you know.. ^^ it wont matter much.

so yes. pvp awareness doesn’t come overnight and skill USED to matter. but in these days? .. well just roll meta Scrapper and enjoy killing 3year experienced/skilled pros that are playing Thieves and Zerker Shatter Mesmers. oh wait.. no1 plays that already. all good players quitted. k. ^^ but yea. i still suggest to roll Druid/Scrapper/Ele/Condi Chrono Cancer and just enjoy smashing buttons.

PS.oh and btw. don’t listen to haters and all trolls who say SKILL matters. as for now.. in this state of game CLASS > SKILL. it used to be other way around but in HoT CLASS will always be > then your SKILL. unless you are very very very bad. but i doubt you are very bad. so yea until the next balance patch or like after a year or two (hell knows how long) remember that CLASS is everything. don’t torture yourself and go with an OP class and pwn those try hard Zerker Mesmers and Zerker Thieves (irony…oh the irony…). take care

umm. i think that’s what needs to be said:

1 – pvp build diversity – minimal. u’ll be pigeon-holed into 1 build.
2 – gotta have HoT expansion to stay somewhat competetive.
3 – PvE/WvW is quite okey i suppose
4 – balance is… well… test for yourself.. (i suggest creating Scrapper/Druid so u’ll be op)

My concern on GW is it´s build diversity, which got reduced to a minimum.
The problem is that a MMO like GW2 has diversity and individualized characters as one of their supporting columns.

yea. that’s really a big issue. and i get it that you need to FORCE your expansion to get sold and stuff but it’s been awhile now and still pretty much same builds r used. i remember u could basically theorycraft your own unique build (even if it wasnt meta or very very good) and if u used to be good u could still be on the same strength as meta builds. just take a class → create build → if ur good u gonna win. those were the times gw2 was awesome. now .. juz go create scrapper.. put on meta build.. thats it. and if u wont u’ll be rekt.

“I never got bored of it” you said, until you decided you were bored and took a three month break. So, you tried playing it again and couldn’t get back into it. It’s natural, I’d say, that you have to “work” in PvP after you haven’t played it in 3 months, and I don’t think that’s anything indicative of the game as a whole. In fact, it’s largely accepted that PvP balance is best its been in a while.

are u kidding me by “best balance in a while”? i mean.. what.. anyway, i meant that i got bored of it right after HoT. before HoT i played like straight 2years and never got bored of it. but right after HoT i played like 2months (then maybe more 1month just out of pure addiction and still having hopes but not really enjoying anymore). so yea i meant i got bored cuz of HoT. nonetheless balance issues and build diversity killed it for me. maybe i woulda still played if they could somehow keep daredevil/power mesmer in a good spot.. but try to remember what happened to thieves/warrs in season1. and then basically just faceroll classes became OP which required 0 effort to play.

but seriously best balance? maaaan i remember i used to thief 24/7 and never used to loose 1v1s if i had time and i didnt need to decap. same with medi guard. barely lost 1v1s. it used to be times when “if u loose u were really outsmarted and outplayed”. those times skill mattered atleast somewhat. now just roll scrapper/condi mesmer/druid and faceroll keyboard and win. so idk wut u mean bout good balance.

…after a 3 month break u come back to PvP and it gets tiring and boring and tedious after 10mins and u go back to 3month break again.

i remember i used to PvP/WvW non-stop before HoT. either it was good old Medi Guard or Thief (mainly Thief). boyyyy it was fun times and i never got bored of it. could just slightly change build when im bored and carry on for another half a year. someone remember those times? cheers to those. then HoT came out and yes.. enough said lol. (sadly i bought it..)

PS. i was actually surprised how after a 3 month break it wasnt interesting at all. mostly i miss games alot and i get hyped again but dang… Anet pls re-roll to GW2 instead of GW2:HoT. i want something fun to play ^^ any news on upcoming updates or anythin? anythin on horizon thats positive? or just still facerolling passive classes staying on the top? make Thief/Daredevil/Zerker Mesmers great again! tactical active game > passive faceroll.

Current state of PvP

I rarely post in these forums so I was just curious what the current crop of pvp players feel about the state of the game at the moment.

Theres four things for me that come to mind straight away:

Balance: Arguably the most balanced pvp has been in a long while, baring of course Guardian which is widely considered to be the weakest class in the current meta. Saying that I do feel the meta for lack of a better term is rather dry or dare I say a bit dull at the moment.

Build diversity: This is something I wish Arena Net would look into more, more often then not there is one solid build per profession which is used by everyone. Occasionally you may get a couple of good builds per profession but there few and far between.

Metrics/Numbers: This for me is the most worrying thing. The numbers for PvP are dwindling down somewhat. Im aware Overwatch is now in full flow and has probably taken a few numbers out of GW2 PvP. Which brings me to my final point.

Incentives: Baring the legendary PvP backpiece which I would imagine most players would have by the end of this season or next there really is nothing to incentivize players to play if they reach legendary division.

I did suggest as others have that they should maybe create a reward track exclusively for legendary division and that can only be progressed once your in legendary.

In addition the PvP Vendor has not been updated with any new items for us to spend our pvp tickets on for the last several months.

bravoooo. atlast some1 got it. its not Overwatch. it’s not some other new shiny stuff. it’s just… pvpers got bored of this crap. HoT = no build diversity and forced elite specs. i didnt even care about rewards i remember. i just wanted to have fun. anyway.. bravo cuz u just hit the spot. lots of people abandoned gw and went to ESO. i did too ^^

you know i totally agree with you that old LA was alot cooler. it had some kind of a feeling to it. it was totally GW2. but i think its the other thing also. old LA was totally for me those good old times of GW2 before the expansion when things were quite healthy. new LA represents to me HoT. and i completely hated HoT and quitted the game. so overall i think its not just that old LA was cooler and had more feeling to it but its just…. HoT. HoT kinda ruined some good stuff. GW2 will never be the same xD haha. abit overly dramatic but yes. i think that’s the main reason why i think old LA was alot better.

1 – Stealth abit less. do not depend on stealth that much and dont waste so much ini. better try to depend on interrupt if u fancy using #4 with that trait. even if u want to stealth much aim ur camera down. so u wont need to run back to ur field. u can do like 4-5 combos like that if u rly into stealthing.

2 – React quicker. try to make up a counter and do it. watch ur opponent carefully wut he’s doing and counter that. its not about spamming buttons quicker tho. just about making a quick plan how to counter their most painful moves and also to still have escape capability (enuff of initiative if things go south)

3 – This is very important i think. umm. make ur UI alot bigger. watch those boons. watch that weakness. watch those condis etcetc. this rly helps alot. i always used to play with a huge UI just cuz i can see every boon on my opponent and when to steal it and such.

PS. idk but i always used basilisk venom. that weird stomp elite is just meh for me. other then that… realise that u r a class that Anet doesn’t like. if u get instagibed.. then oh well.. it doesnt mean u r bad.. it means Anet isn’t rly into loving skilled and fun classes. cheers. on that note im back to Wildstar ^^ gl.

yup. uninstalled like 3months ago too. not really planning to come back actually. was hyped about HoT but after just abit of seeing it i just couldnt enjoy and i got left with a bitter regret taste. balance/build diversity/forced elite specs just placed a solid “no more” decision. my f.list went also from like 30 people online to 1 person online. all old pvpers/roamers club. lol. that explains it all i guess. cheers tho. there are better games when it comes to pvp. just go find some other one if u dont enjoy. gw2 pvp died like 2015 june patch anyway.

I think we’re being a bit melodramatic. This happens to every mmo. The hype goes up due to some new feature via a patch, then it goes down once things start to settle towards repetitiveness. Rinse and repeat until technology eventually lags behind.

It’s whether or not the game is improving and to Anet’s credit, they are doing just that. They refuse to dumb down the game (thank goodness) and they refuse to revert changes to mechanics that’s already in place. This is both a pro and a con but ultimately it means they accept how things are. They continue to move forward in a positive direction but for a game that could potentially take a 360, i’m glad they’ve remained the same since launch… unlike most MMOs.

Coming from a professional background, I understand first hand how things can get construed when new change is in the mix. It’s part of life. I’m just glad that GW2 is continuing to improve their foundation.

Believe it or not, balances has indeed improved. I’m a DH in Diamond and I’ve had a heck of a time getting here. And that’s not sarcasm.

i have a hard time agreeing to this tho. at first game is already dumbed down. then umm.. well i do agree that they are kinda improving overall depth/mechanics of the game yet somehow they make it very easy. eg – we got 3 traits. we got more stat options via amulets. we got weapons that are now used by classes that couldnt use it b4 HoT. all these things sound like games’ depth should be better. yet its totally opposite. we got totally dumbed down meta builds that take 0 skill to play. idk. gw2 reminds me of the last days of Aion. they kinda made it deeper. with more complexity and stuff BUT the biggest mistake was breaking the balance. when that broke – game went downhill quite fast. yes its not totally shut down. but the golden age of that game was over like 2 years ago. i feel the same stuff in gw2 now. downhill. the question is will anet pull it off. and if they’ll manage to pull it off before its too late.

i remember when i played scrapper i just found dead thieves on the floor just by aoe’ing. idk.. they r way too easy. mayb u r using some weird build. i used to fight like 1v1 with ele. thief comes to 2v1. i dont even pay attention to him and focus ele. and then i just find at the end that he’s downed and left for dead. so..:/ ye.

weird how people are so unhappy with a game yet they keep playing it. i guess OP u r just addicted too much so even if u feel frustrated u still keep playing? for me it was very simple. i bought HoT, tried to overcome all that balance/build diversity bs, was forced to roll classes/builds i dont even enjoy to stay competetive and quite fast it came to me – why the hell im even trying if i dont enjoy anymore. and my enjoyable build/class was totally forced out of meta. that was it. rather simple decision. not enjoying = quitting. quitted and thats it. so i guess u gotta realise that too. just make a simple question " are you enjoying? or are you playing just because u used to like this game? " and im happy already. i’ve found really better games out there that are truly skill based and balance isnt broken and u arent kinda forced to buy xpacs and such. oh and also u can use builds u enjoy unlike here. so cheers. if that’s ur case too dont be blinded by pure addiction and just do a reality check. cuz reality has rly changed. lets say what gw2 was 2years ago and now. totally different game. (just a simple example.. it went from being rather original game where u could use basically any build u’d wanted to and experiment with ur traits and still be good into a game where u got just 1 build/style option or u’ll get destroyed). i guess gl and open ur eyes

Abysmal:
1. no build diversity
2. balance gap between core and elite is huge. balance gap between “meta” and not meta is huge.
3. promotion of casual / passive / dull / easy gameplay. not much skill needed. skilled classes arent really rewarded rather punished. this ends up in being very boring and narrow minded combat system.

sorry to say but pure disgrace to a game which was somewhat skillful and fun in the past. wasn’t very skillful in the past either but it had huge potential for the future projects and i was quite hopeful and sure HoT will make it even better.. sadly – HoT came out and it went even further into a land of “casual/simple/passive”.

i “luv” one thing about PvP forums. there are so many people with good ideas and people who are so tired of this state of pvp and wanna change things and how elite specs are pushed and how meta is alot better then any other build and how build diversity is at its worst and how power classes like chrono/daredevil are left behind and etc etc .. and yet.. no dev is replying or actively engaging people in pvp threads. even the message like " guys calm down. we are working on this and that and that.. soon it will be patched " would help those hopeful pvpers alot. yet nope. no responses. other day i totally scanned throughout the dev tracker. from that i can tell one very obvious thing – they don’t really care or know how to fix things so it ends up in a complete silence. mostly they reply to PvE stuff. like lore stories/names/legendary items or sometimes just making jokes. i encourage you to go read the whole dev tracker yourselves. maybe then you’ll realise theres no reason to post something like this in forums. nor there’s a good reason to expect good things in a near future. just play the game as it is or just.. don’t. sad tho. this game had soooo much potential.

There’s always wvw, at least THAT is getting improvements. Plus it’s easier to balance than pvp. The stability, for instance, is one fix. Builds don’t determine the outcome of the game, it’s coverage + tactics.

Conquest PvP will always benefit the class who can cover a point and fight people off of it, it really is that simple. Stronghold needs work also.

are you sure? i mean.. roll berserker/marauder daredevil. or good old and very fun berserker mesmer/chronomancer. those builds barely have a chance in a 1v1 against let’s say.. scrapper. or condi spammers. or tempest. or druid. or rev. or.. basically any meta build. that’s what i mean by build diversity. its non existant. in wvw its basically the same as in pvp. roll condi chrono – u r OP. roll glass chrono / glass thief – u r weak. :/ idk i kinda gave up on this game already. tho im checkin forums. and yesterday i was really curious to just go through dev tracker. it seemed very obvious. they r really very ignorant in PvP forums and the things that concern core vs. elite / build diversity / balance. sad panda is goin to wildstar xD that game is awsum actually.

yes..no… i dunno ^^ i guess its a giving up. as long as risky and glassy classes will be in sucha bad spot im nowhere near this game ;D and as long as this build diversity stays in this state im even further away from this game. but yea theorycrafting is fun. but theory is just theory. im just curious at this point to check up forums for new updates and see what kind of a “balance patch” devs will bring next. mark my words .. there will be atleast a year or on the brightest chances like 8 months until they’ll come up with some kind of a fix or such balance like it was pre-HoT. even back then i thought balance is broken. but now.. oh my.. i never thought it can be that broken and pushed into meta so much that all of other builds are completely useless. so yes. minimum 8-12months. and still its a very optimistic prediction ^^

the most annoying thing is that skill does not really matter that much anymore. that’s the thing i cannot deal with anymore. before HoT patch it used to be somewhat okey. even if u weren’t meta and u played the build/class that is considered somewhat weak u could still outplay your opponent purely by skill. and it felt rewarding and fun. after HoT i just cannot.. now we are like this:

1 – play a class and build that we truly enjoy. yet even if we are skilled we’ll just be crushed by some meta scrapper/druid/ele/reaper/rev no matter the skill.
2 – well. point 2 is giving up. rolling the same meta OP class and playing the game no longer for fun but just for the wins.

and this is not okey. i understand that casual can be frustratred that PvP is too hard. but that’s not an issue. just play abit more. test study practice and in a week or so u’ll be alright already. but then… when skilled and experienced players get torn apart just because they don’t want to play metas or other classes… that’s just terrible. but anyway theres no reason to talk. i doubt devs will change anythin. maybe after a year or so powercreep wont be that bad. but for now im just abandoning the ship.

i feel like all of us are just giving so much effort and chance for this game. i meet so many people who totally do not enjoy condi builds. yet they play it. or they re-roll to scrapper/druid/ele but they don’t enjoy it at all. see where im getting at? this game pushed so many people into playing something they don’t like. yesterday i was like " man.. why do i even play if i don’t enjoy and my fave classes/builds are killed". came to conclusion its just all about addiction and no alternative games. deleted. moved on. i mean i dont know.. if some people out there are like me i suggest to just don’t bother. we gave too much effort for this game and yet we are forced to play some cheez builds that we dont enjoy.

ps. just download some fun game and move on. maybe it’s really a good idea to abandon sinking ship so anet will start doing something when they’ll see dropping numbers. cuz literally i feel like still 30-40% of population re-rolled to classes/builds they don’t even enjoy but they are forced to play it. wake up. u dont enjoy? well don’t play. don’t play just cuz u r addicted or somethin

state of build diversity is a joke. i don’t really remember such a bad state in gw2 ever. tho it doesnt mean u gotta give up on ur fave class/build. i’m not into playing condi either. so i just basically took old power shatter chrono but instead of domination went with inspiration and still with berserker amulet. it’s still the same flavor of style. gs + sword/shield. u can either go with mantra or regular dodge clone. and for third slot just take something like daze mantra or mirror images for extra survival. it’s not as OP as condi chrono and not as weak as domination. u can still make it work. and u wont need to give up the playing style we all like.

but yes i do agree.. power classes that requires some skill to play are in a super sad sayian state.. and classes that are easy to play are in an OP state. i cant help but think that it’s some kind of HoTs incentive for casuals. that they can still keep up and actually win against good players. cuz good player wont give up his fave build. he’ll rather loose then go condi.

The old trait system was much more flexible and fun to mess around with, excluding the Stats that were tied to certain traitlines. But it is gone never to return, believe me. Anet will NEVER change it, cause this makes it easier to understand (the game is too casual IMO), but much more boring and straight up no-brainer (2 major traits always outshine the other one).
I would like it to return without the stats tied to it, but Anet surely won’t reintroduce it out of their stubbornness. Their mistake.

Making the system easier for new players to understand might be a factor, but there are more reasons for that decision. It was requires to make elite specs work. How do you want to work with the elite specs without the need to fully invest? So I could put just one point in this trait line to get access to the new weapon? And it’s important for balancing… anet has to keep in mind that future elite specs have to be balanced. It is WAY harder to balance all possible combinations of your desired old system than balancing with just 3 fully traited lines.

Does it reduce build diversity? Sure, it does. But it is for the sake of the game. Most people are already complaining that some things are op with the actual system. Imagine the balancing problem, if we let people invest in trait lines as they wish.

well but that’s why developers exist no? it’s their job to make things work and make a decent balance too. there are really customizable games out there, yet it’s alot more balanced then gw2. so.. lot more builds and yet other games nail it at balancing out and not overpowercreeping things. that’s what devs have to figure out. cuz even with this 1-way trait system their game is far from balanced. if they really do care about their game at some point in time they’ll really need to fix things. and not just tweaking numbers but actually balancing it out from the core. that’s when some kind of new trait system will be possible. as for now… let us just enjoy this boring mode and hope for a better future ^^

i just hope that devs will pay attention and seriously consider re-working traits. there are some games out there that really have interesting build systems. like RIFT for example. i do think we really really badly need some kind of re-work. i used to live in HotM pvp testing many builds, tweaking them to my taste and my style. and it was awesome. and whenever this trait change kicked in i just can’t stay interested. i basically know every build out there just by a glance. of course it’s awesome now that we have 3 grandmasters but after awhile you realise they just loose the weight of being grandmasters and overall it totally kills build diversity/uniqueness. instead of that third grandmaster maybe even some adept would be alot more useful and would sinergyze alot better in that particular build. i think we need something like really 100% customizable system. lets say we have X amount of slots and we can use anything we want and we aren’t so forced into some kind of metas or locked to that particular tree anymore.

so yes. i really hope developers will pay attention to this and really consider it. cuz it would really be a blast to be able to make your truly original and fun build that fits your style.

i improved myself very easily. ‘’why be a soldier when you can be a tank’‘. re-rolled scrapper in other words. tho it’s sad to see thief in this state. once it goes back to more of a dueling class im sure i’ll roll it again. just cause im an addict. tho i cannot play a class that isnt rly capable of 1v1. just cause i love roaming in wvw. and 1v1 is very important there. pvp yea.. pvp role is fine. +1 and decap always works. but not being able to 1v1 or giving so much effort to be able to 1v1 is just not okey. cuz from my perspective and my older mmorpgs every class has to be able to 1v1 if it’s controlled by a skilled player. and before HoT and june patches it was the case. but when it became a game of class > skill that’s when i just said ‘’nope. not anymore. this is just wrong’’

Why Gw2 Will Never Be Balanced

i still think when it comes to PvP and WvW complexity should be top1 priority. that’s what makes PvPers thrive and motivates them to play. in other words – veteran population is more likely to stay for a long period of time. while casual and not really hardcore players are more open to leaving the game even if game is catering for them. besides even casual players might get some kind of drive to start exploring PvP when they would bump into complex systems. the depth of a game (or in this case depth of PvP system) is what keeps players logging in. thats why we got this situation now.. many vets and hardcore players are leaving. vets are the kind of players who are very patient BUT every1 has their breaking point. and i dunno but to me it seems that when you stop catering to competetive side of players population drops are very huge.

this might be a one-sided opinion tho.. as i am one of those hardcore/vet players. but i still think game has to evolve around active/complex and deep system. it just naturally builds up alot more interesting mechanics to learn/master and holds a person in game for longer.

PS. so please Anet start to promote active and not passive. start to promote the idea of complexity and reward. cuz u know.. many vets are on a breaking-point. you can really see that from your friend list too. or a guild. or anywhere really. that’s what happens when u promote passive over active.

pretty much yea.. Thief/Warr went underground after HoT. feeling like im forced to play Scrapper/Ele/Reaper tho i enjoy only Thief. anyone feels like that? or should i ask anyone that DOESNT feel like that? it’s quite a pity to just quit/delete your main class and roll some other that you don’t really enjoy. the question is then – should i even bother playing? i mean.. games are all about fun right? playing a class that isn’t fun just makes no sense. playing a class just to be strong doesn’t make sense either. don’t want to rant and QQ but seriously.. devs.. you need to fix this (build options shouldnt be limited to 1 or 2. same goes for classes). and fix it fast. i see more and more people just giving up and leaving to other games just because they are tired of playing 1-2 classes with the same 1-4 builds. gw used to be fun because of build diversity. you could really roll any build/class (b4 2015June-HoT) you’d come up with and still be quite competetive in PvP.. and now? well… yea.. :/ (oh and yes – all of the above somewhat applies to WvW competetive side too)

Guardian traps

Day 4 of my thief adventures…im still struggling against more or less all classes except other thieves and warriors.

Fighting a revenant I am pulling away to re-stealth after my opening took him to about 75%, he does a ranged attack that one-shot me as well…for some reason it felt like the 4 hammer bolts hit me on the same time as the “Coalescence of Ruin”

How are heavy armor classes able to him for so much on 1200 units range?
I mean a heavy armor class,hitting me for more on 1200 range,than I can hit in melee with all sorts of mumbo jumbo before I engage?
This is just wrong.

do yourself a favor .. just don’t play Thief. believe me it will save you from so much frustration and possibly from rage quitting. after 2years of maining Thief i really regret that i played it and fell in love with it. so.. don’t fall in love with it. maybe you can still find some class that you enjoy if it’s not too late ^^ … roll something like Scrapper and play easy mode without frustration.

I play always with my old support guard build.
And yesterday some thief try to kill me…. But he killed himself with retaliation…
I didn’t play for month, maybe there was some change in the game… But that was funny, at least for me… Poor thief…

it’s quite obvious anyway.. as long as thief wont be buffed or others nerfed – it’ll be just a 2v1 class. before quitting the game i had like 5hours of duels in WvW. against tempests and scrappers. those 5 hours made me realise everything that i said in this post. Anet just totally screwed us up and it’s obvious. i mean come on.. a scrapper/ele has the defensive capabilities of a tank. yet in WvW they still hit you like a truck. especially its ridiculous against those fresh air eles in WvW. they just pop some earth invulns and overload air or just spams scepter AA or #2 – done. u r dead. go try that if u don’t believe it. i remember trying like all builds xcept cheez condi. tried S/D. tried D/P. still had no chance. those players even whispered me later on “dont be frustrated dude. just roll different class. anet killed thieves with HoT.” and one guy was 3 year thief veteran too. he just re-rolled scrapper for the same reasons. but i just couldnt enjoy any other class. i enjoyed only thief. so that was a game killer for me. i didn’t want to go the easy way. yet i didn’t feel like playing and loosing all day either. so gg. i suppose just good luck and much patience to all of you thieves out there and enjoy the broken game.

Im perfectly fine with the class being very punishing. If i screw up and get caught in a dh trap and die of it, ok. No problem. I make a mistake, I die: alright, thats kinda why I play thief.
My main issues are those:
1)Even if you make no mistakes, you cant really win a whole lot of fights. Even the unavoidable passive pressure is enough to force me to disengage or perhaps even kill me.
2)The class should be rewarding. You make mistakes, you die. You make no mistakes: they die.
But it doesnt work that way. If I manage to kill some1 its not because I landed a good vault, its because my opponent was too stupid to dodge it. And of cousre some classes can just heal all damage I deal, even if they allowed me to stand right next to them and autoattack.

I know some people are fine with the rotate only role we have. I dont get that to be honest. It sucks hard. And even if you make it work on highest level, pro league proves us, that it is not enough against equally skilled players.

Anyways, I find all these people wanting to ‘quit gw2’ a litte overly dramatic. If things dont work out for you, you fight to make them better, you dont just turn around and look another way.
For me working on ways to improve a game has become a huge part of the fun. Gw2 is probably one of the main reasons, I havent joined any political organization yet ^^

well i completely agree with your point 1 and 2. class should be risky in a trade-off of being very rewarding. which it was. and which it isnt now.

anyway. i doubt its being overly dramatic. because… yes , i have tried many times to overcome things. i think i had like 7thieves of level 80. that’s how many times i still kept trying and rage-deleting. and trying and rage-deleting. and repeat it x7 times. rolled even all classes too. to figure out how to deal with that and that. looked through all traits. basically i was studying GW2 like a nerd from Thieves perspective to figure out how to deal with things so i can still keep playing my fave class. you see what i’m saying? that yes – i really tried hard to make things work and i didn’t just dramatically wanted to quit the game without a fair shot. but all in all – all this struggle just because IT guys developed DrDvil in sucha way.

its quite hilarious isnt it? thinking now of the statement i made before. that “imagine a new rookie player trying Thief for the first time”. ohhhh boyos.. he would have so much trouble staying atleast somewhat competetive. so yup – at this point Thief is totally just for some nerd veterans that played all classes, memorized all traits, utilities etc.. and even then – risk is high.

I’m playing very little at the moment because Thief is comparatively too weak and Engi is too easy. Both my favourite classes feel unrewarding for different reasons.

I honestly don’t know how anyone can enjoy winning because a man in a development studio has tweaked numbers in your favour.

I lose on Thief with unfair odds against me – feels kitten
I win on Engi with unfair odds in my favour – feels kitten

I honestly don’t expect great balance in a game with so much diversity but the enormous gulf between professions and specs in GW2 is appalling for a game that is apparently trying to take its PVP seriously.

There is just no way I’m having it that skill is the most important factor in this game and anyone who thinks differently just hasn’t spent enough time playing games that actually are balanced. There are too many crutches in this game that Jimmy-no-brain can give himself just by dialling up metabattle and kidding himself he’s good.

As an example of what I mean by this – I know Thieve’s who are way better than me and can beat me 1v1 all day long. I swap prof to fotm faceroll on something I’m less familiar with and suddenly I must have had a major skill upgrade because I’m winning – that shouldn’t be a thing.

So yeah OP good on you… stop playing… you and many others I’m sure.

If you really like GW2 then you’re stuck… but if what you really like is exciting balanced PVP games – there are much better games than this.

thats exactly how i feel and majority of thieves feel. though there's always some of those keyboard warriors that appear and claim that Thief is fine. i'll never understand why are they still defending their opinion when its quite obvious. if i would be a new player i'd hesitate and won't be so confident in "Thief is weak" statement. but after so many hours. after so many thoughts of how to fight that, how to deal with that situation and that and that... im quite confident there's no reason to say "Thief is ok". of course its a very risky prof. you cannot buff them heavily - thats for sure. and making it a passive class wouldn't work either cuz only-thief players would never be happy of passive gameplay either. but on your reply - yes, thats exactly one of major issues. that some class like Scrapper/Reaper/DH can take down Thief without any effort or just by an accident. thats quite hilarious. Anet you should really really read what this guy wrote.

1 – Delete Thief. (cuz best option is no options)
2 – Delete Warrior. (cuz best option is no options)
3 – Man just delete anything really so people wont need to play fun classes and can straightforward go play Reaper Condi Wars 2: Heart of Broken Balance.
4 – So basically leave necros/dhs. carrion + marauder amulet. thats it. it will be pretty much a good balance for S3.
5 – Oh yea. New gliders please every week. Cuz that really fixes things u know.. it might aswell balance out things

D/D condi cancer. hell – even S/D acro to compensate the squishiness lol. nothing works. and i mean – yes it works in 2v1 or some unfair fights.(tho any class works in 2v1) but remember the times when Thief was able to 1v1 and not loose if played well? well now u gotta play well to have a slight chance to 1v1 someone. and yes – all those passive traits, stability, reflect ccs, blocks makes it even worse. even spamming #3 Shadow Shot isn’t as useful as you say. it won’t land that often cuz of blocks/invulns. anyway – the whole pattern that emerged after HoT is that they totally promoted casual, passive, easy-to-play classes and just overtuned them. that pretty much sums it up. and active/offensive style class like Thief is now totally maybe just for veteran players who can dodge perfectly, be aware of opponents boons, be aware of surroundings, be aware of disengage/engage windows etc etc… hell. imagine a new player creating Thief and trying it out in PvP. would be quite hilarious wouldnt it? so yep – let’s promote passive casual classes so new players can feel good. i guess that was the logic behind HoT.
