Really?? Thats really sad. I won’t get my paycheck for another two weeks. I can’t WvW or level a normal PvE character?
You can wvw, but its dead.
You can level a character. I assumed by coming back you meant you were 80 already.
I like to reroll to get re-accustomed to my characters. Especially considering I was never exceptionally good at my classes anyway, extra practice never hurts. But this is good to hear that I’m still able to do the base content. I apologize for the dumb questions, I didn’t know how GW2 was going to do their expansion.
My honest opinion?
Extremely yes. Take your time, then buy season 2 from the gem shop. I purchased it just for revenant class personally. The expansion still has bugs and issues. I’m waiting about another month myself before I jump into the story, and only explored the first map. With guild wars there is honestly no rush needed.
Okay, sweet. I’ll just take my time PvEing & finding a cool Guild to get along with then. Are most players too busy with the expansion to run through old content? I don’t really know what it offers or anything, so I apologize for coming off as air headed.

Just started a new job & won’t be able to purchase the expansion for a little bit. I wanna come back to the game but won’t if I’m gonna be kitten at all til I buy the expansion. I have every intention on buying the expansion once I’m able to though.
Staff eles are beast
I’ve watched a few WvW/sPvP videos uploaded within the last few weeks on Youtube and they look to be in great shape. Could also very well be that the players making the videos are especially skillful though :P
Concerning your questions about staff eles and necros: staff eles are kind of viable for pvp, but other options are more powerful. Necro is a strong pvp class, especially in the NA meta, a great WwW zerg class, a meh roaming class and the worst dungeon class out there. Overall, they are below average. They are indeed a lot of people to socialize with. I just met a cool guy with a chilled out guild accepting all kind of players without requirements, I can ask him to send you an invite.
What server is he on? I’m currently redownloading & haven’t been able to see what server I’m on.
You’re in “luck” you can start an entire new character and experience the NPE and the new Traits system. They’ve also made significant changes to the Personal Story, and I think some parts are still bugged. You sound like you might be ANet’s target demo for these changes. Let us know how it goes.
I’m sure I’ll do a follow up post in the next day or so about the game. I should be updating and starting my new character by tonight. What significant changes have they made for the personal story? I read an article somewhere where they said they try not to make significant changes like that so as to not effect new players who have yet to experience all the newly released content?
Hello, I’m a returning player that has not played in at least 8 months, and upwards to 10 months. I’ve always loved Staff Eles but when I last played they werent useful for much other than spamming buffs and water fields in WvW. I have an interest in playing GW2 again and would be playing a lot of WvW & sPvP. How are Staff Eles in those areas? Since I haven’t played in so long, I’m basically a born again newbie. I plan on rerolling entirely to get a feel for the class again. I know Ele in general is hard to master, but I think that makes them more worthwhile when it comes to playing. If anyone could point me in the direction of great support builds to start me off, it’d be much appreciated. More difficult builds would be appreciated as well once I get the hang of Eles.
Queensdale is active, other areas are less active. It’s pretty much a single player game to play PvE. There’s a new leveling system that gimps your progression. For example you won’t unlock your traits until 30th level and have to do certain tasks to assign them. Elementalists and Necromancers are fine. Play how you like.
I won’t lie, the Traits thing sounds like a hassle. What do you mean certain tasks? Like Quests? Am I better off just rebooting an old character rather than rerolling?
You are immensely better off using a pre-made character instead of rerolling. There is a specific task assigned to each of the 65 major traits, and it ranges from killing a specific champ to 100% map complete of a particular zone to wvw objectives, to dungeons and more. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trait_guide
You can buy the traits, but the total cost is 43g and 360 skill points, as opposed to the previous cost of 2g70s.
Sounds like karma for me telling my friends I wanted to fire up another MMO to have something to pass the time. Guess this is my perfect chance to create a character & go all out with her & go for full completion of things. Luckily I have both a level 80 Necro & a level 80 Staff Ele to use in WvW already.

If this is not the correct place to post, I sincerely apologize & understand my thread may be moved or deleted.
I have not played GW2 seriously in about 7-8 months (probably upwards to 10 months) and have several questions about returning. Are the low level areas dead or still very populated? I am almost positive all my friends have quit playing & I plan to start all over & relearn my class. As such I’d like to know if there are plenty of people for me to socialize with.
Also, I’ve seen a few things about a tournament (just started reading the website a little today) and was curious what all that is about. Also, is WvW still a challenge at all? Are there any new changes?
I also have questions about classes. Have Staff Eles been changed at all for 1v1 in sPvP? Or are they still only really useful in groups for WvW? They are my favorite class and weapon combo. Also, how are Necros doing? They’re my second favorite
Also, does it still cost anything to change servers? I’m not exactly sure what server I’m on yet since I haven’t redownloaded or logged on, but I’m most likely going to try and transfer to a high populated server for more socializing.
Thank you to any & all who take the time to read this & respond. I will be doing my own research about everything I’ve asked, but I also like to get insight from current active players as well.
OG.
incredibly talented people.
Imo, if you’re getting banned for swearing, you must be waaaay over-doing it.
Because I have cursed quite a bit and haven’t been talked to by anybody, Anet or community wise.
But I’m also never threatening anybody lol.
Chipsu is nice and doesn’t afraid of anything. Good videos. <3
I’m having a lot of issues with Burst mesmers (GS/sword/pistol) and I’m sure it’s a L2P issue. I run sceptor/torch/staff. Would love any advice or tips on how to counter them. (:
My build is http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgUQNArfWlwzKq3UTmGa9IiJFDHyh6x1ldfXJF22FC;T0AAzCpogxUkoIrPOYk+sqYUxpiXFzFA
And I use it in sPvP because I am not yet 80 for WvW (But I plan to use it in WvW as well)
Runes and all that are exactly as in the build.
Thank you for the advice, and as for what I use it for, I use the build for sPvP and generally do very well. I also plan to use it for WvW once I hit 80 but I’m only level 47.
Thank you Blue, I will practice all of that tonight
Hello, I currently run a Condition build and I just have some questions as I am not all that experienced with Mesmer yet.
(The build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgUQNArfWlwzKq3UTmGa9IiJFDHyh6x1ldfXJF22FC;T0AAzCpogxUkoIrPOYk+sqYUxpiXFzFA )
Do you think a Condition build could take down a bunker d/d ele? I tried last night and no matter what, he’d cleanse my conditions using his water Element plus some other skill (he linked me but I forgot) and was actually able to down me. I’m just not sure if it was due to my noobish gameplay or if it’s just a really REALLY tough fight to begin with. Or a combo of the two lol.
Also, do any of you have any tips on defeating really burst-y builds? (Thieves for example) It’s not that I can’t kill them (I usually do) but not before they get my health down a lot to where it’s almost a close match, but I’d like to minimize that. :P
If any of you could link videos as well (I play sceptor/torch/staff) that’d be awesome. Thanks for all the patience. Trying to L2P, one thing at a time. :P
I had the same feeling for Elementalists. I rolled one cause I’ve always loved casters, from day one. But everybody tells me that for the most part, to be viable, I have to run D/D. But I don’t want to be a melee character as an Ele! ><
I’d like to remind everybody of what happened at “Fight Club” which was supposed to be a fun event for all worlds…
It got smashed to a million bagillion kazillion pieces by poor sports from (I think) all three servers. I’m not saying to cancel the cute Dolyak event, but be prepared for some annoyance, just in case.
I for one will not be attending or ruining the event, but would rather just give you guys a heads up. :P
I play a support Staff Ele and I love it. I focus mainly on slows, stuns, knockbacks and immobolizes for my friends with a little bit of healing. I love it (:
So this is a kind of funny topic! What are some famous last words relevant to GW2?
Can’t tell you how many times I died thinking I was jumping off a cliff into shallow water….
Famous last words:
“Yeah, that water looks deep enough.”
Imo, should have made the alliance that we can’t take FA’s major points(and they can’t take ours), but can do supply camp trains so both sides could benefit from flipping them back on both maps and rere’s could have something to take, without hurting any feelings. But feh.
Yeah I agree that I probably shouldn’t say that it’s state is “god awkittenl” (why is awff00l replaced with kitten? lol) . I just do it to avoid being told how bad I am for trying to play staff. I know a few Elementalists who have told others they need to go D/D to be usekittenl at all, so I tried to avoid that.
Thanks all for all the replies, and I will try out those builds (:
(edited by Delusion.9543)
Okay, first off, I love the Staff and I know right now it’s state is god awful. But is it still useful as Support? I know it’s not AS powerful as Guardian, but is it still viable for lets say a five man running supply camps? I just really like all the control and support heals that goes with it, and I do not like playing the Guardian class (or Engineer for that matter)
Also, do you think it will get any love in the future? Cause I don’t mind struggling with it now and figuring it out if it’s gonna get some nice new changes in the future.
What changes would you like to see?
And do any of you have some really nice support specs going on?
I’m just not interested in being in melee as D/D with a caster class, so please don’t tell me to just go D/D and avoid answering any of my questions.
I also like sceptor too, so if any of you guys wanna throw sceptor builds at me, you may, but I’m looking for mostly staff support builds (:
Sorry if my questions seemed annoying. I am only just now starting to play Ele ><
CD map chat and /team chat is usually pretty LOLzy during NA prime time. Not as LOLzy as this thread and all the crying, but pretty close.
Except we don’t cry/whine in CD map chat. We just literally take turns telling jokes and do what this game was meant to do, you know, be a good time and have fun.
Alt F4.
Somebody had to say it.
The drama in this thread is great.
Can I get a score update on the forum fights?
Seems Mag and Ebay are crushing CD atm as it is. ;p
Well I’m sorry your Fight Club got demolished. I just logged on to see this. I’m from CD and I think having a Fight Club is a great way to have good clean fun in WvW. I apologize my server went after you like that. :/
Please don’t think we’re all bad people, heh.
Take your guild, expand it, make an alliance, organize with them and make something of your server.
You post a big giant wall of text saying I do not understand what goes on, on your server then you presume to lecture someone on my server about what they should and shouldn’t do?
TG worked hard, they had a lot of successes and they tried a lot of things, they are one of the last original WvW guilds we had. They gotta do what is best for their guild, your view of that choice is irrelevant.
^ That was for the guy transferring, not you.(I don’t care if you know them or whatever, it is a simple suggestion of staying because server hopping is a huge issue and you shouldn’t do it just because you aren’t winning)
And then at the end I said if he really feels the need because of a bad community, to transfer and try to make do. Sorry I had to repost about this, but you seem to be taking it the wrong way.
>_> Calm yourself. You are scaring the children.
You’re ignorant to what TG tried to do.
You actually told us to do exactly what we did and have been doing, weeks prior.
We all assembled into one vent channel and made alliances and talked to the other Guilds and tried to make strategies.
We squashed any rivalry we had with our own Allies
I and countless others recruited in WvW and out at every chance
We tried to find what would best help our server Commander wise and follow through with what people wanted in good Commanders
We were not stingy with our supply, and despite having work or other responsibilities, a lot of us would stay up waaaaaaaay later than we should of to try and help our night time issues.
Our “alliances” then decided to not show or follow through with anything discussed in vent or in-game
That, paired up with people treating our Guild like crud and talking down to us
That, paired with the server getting stomped in every match
We got sick of it and left.
Don’t try to spread some BS that we left because our community was losing. If that were so, we would of left a long time ago.
We did literally everything in our power to try and make a difference and stay.
But after so much disappointment and after FINALLY realizing SF is just not the hardcore WvW server we wanted, we left to a server that works with our peak times and that has the same interest in WvW that we do.
Please try to refrain from saying something like this “…it is a simple suggestion of staying because server hopping is a huge issue and you shouldn’t do it just because you aren’t winning.” about our Guild ever again, thanks.
The Guild voted and we decided to go to Crystal Desert. So far loving it! Thanks all!
inb4 a bunch of people say “dubstep”
Yeah, they def. got us back for capping their entire map last match haha.
I say start the warning half an hour before, and update every ten minutes.
“The servers will be going down in 30 minutes.”
“….in 20 minutes.”
“…in 10 minutes.”
“…in 5 minutes.”
“…in 3 minutes.”
“…in 1 minute.”
Bam. Six warnings with ample amount of time for people to get what they need done, done.
Dunno. Rift did it and nobody complained about the servers going down too fast unless somebody tripped over a cable :p
As Tulisin said, adapt. The GW2 downed mechanic isn’t going anywhere, so learn to lower the risk of rallying. Kill the NPCs before you kill the player or be more careful.
The way I see it is, if you’re a Commander, you’re leading everybody.
If you wanna lead your Guild, leave the tag off and I’d expect they’d still be able to find your location via Guild chat or vent.
Commanders lead the zerg. Leave it to Guild Officers or something to lead your small Guild forces.
sPvP is getting a new map, but as of now, I don’t think WvW is getting anything new. The PvE world is also getting a new island with a new quest chain. Anet seems to be pretty good at pumping out new maps/locations though, so theres no doubt in my mind that we’ll have a new WvW map or something equal eventually. But as of now, no.
If you’re playing this game day in and day out with no breaks in between, of course you’re going to get burnt out on the issues. You’re facing the same issues every day for 3 weeks straight (or more, if you were here from the beginning) so of course it’s going to be like glaring sunlight in your eyes. Play another game for a week or so and come back. Thats the magic of no sub fees.
So stop playing and then come back when you think you’ll find it fun again.
Aaahhhh, no sub fees. <3
I see what you’re saying. It’s just difficult since we’re usually outnumbered and need all the people we can get. But I understand what you’re saying. It’d basically be fighting a losing battle to try and get him to listen.
I figure we’ll just manipulate his zerg to work with our tactics (i.e. distraction while we take supply camps and build sieges)
Our server has issues with one Commander wanting to zerg, and another commander wanting to be tactical. Unfortunantly, the one with the zerg mentality repeats his actions daily (and responds rudely to any polite suggestions). To the point where if we keep standing down, we’re just watching him zerg down the same keeps day by day and getting no where.
So I’m hoping to find a solution that enables everybody to be heard/understood/appreciated, while still getting stuff done. ><
I like that! Haven’t really had anybody touch up on the “How to handle Commanders who disagree/ don’t get along” question though.
Two Commanders with two different ideas, unaccepting of the other. What do you do at that point?
Alright, so basically you don’t want somebody barking orders and sitting upon their throne while “the little people” do the important but dirty work? I understand that!
Honestly, I felt the exact same way when I first started. I’d sign in, play a little, then sign back out. But then I joined a really active and well spread out Guild and I love it. I mix things up a lot. If most of my guildies aren’t on for an hour or two I PvE. Then when they’re on, I do tournies til late at night. Then when they sign off, I do WvW with the more Oceanic Guildies. I do all three, all with constant silly chat both in Guild chat and Vent and have a blast. Don’t ‘grind’ one section of the game. Play the game to it’s fullest. (:
Sounds easy enough. Be nice, be supportive and persistent, and communicate well.
Do you value what kind of relationship they have with the server as well? (Friendships through out Guilds, ect)
Honestly, in your opinion, what makes a good commander? If it’s communication, what about the communication? Pinging points, server wide mumble/vent? Team chat? What about the “mindless” zergs? How do you handle Commanders that don’t get along/don’t accept each others ideas/plans?
Just let me know what you think makes a good commander (whether you ARE one or not) and what you’d like to see out of them, to further improve gameplay for every server. (:
Probably because at the time, it WAS those two against you. But they’re not always going to work together. You were just there at the wrong time, and they both figured it’d be easier to mow you down and then try to mow each other down.
In Rift if you did anything, a skill, pick something up, literally anything, you dropped stealth. Why wouldn’t it be the same here? The only thing that didn’t drop you out of stealth was “incapacitating” somebody, and it was a short stun on a decent CD, so it wasn’t overpowering. The most Rogues could do was stay stealthed and incapacitate random people running by but the stun is so short it was easily just kinda something you rolled your eyes at.
Bunzy. Making ele look ez mode since forever.
