Shiro used twin katana not sword and dagger so maybe twin swords plau sword/dagger will be options? certainly sounds like a fun addition to the revenants already interesting set up.

Didn’t he use 2 daggers? The weapons he used looked a lot like the greem item Shiro’s Daggers.

He was using daggers in GW1 because of technical limitations – there was no dual welding except for Assassin profession and that one had daggers at its disposal. Thats why Shiro’s daggers were so long.

My two cents about new profession and PvP map

in Revenant

Draghmar.2594

There is one thing that I don’t like about new profession – lack of customization. I didn’t say anything before even if I could see the problem because I wanted to first test it myself to be sure. But it’s really bad that I can’t change utility skills. I just don’t like all skills that are there and yet I’m forced to use them when I want to use specific Legend for some reason. Like in Jalis I don’t like Forced Engagement so it’s waste of slot for me. Right now having two legends gives me 3-4 wasted slots that I could use to something that fits a little more to my playstyle. I know that I could just say that it’s just not the class for me or something like that but that would be wrong. Each class could be customized in some way and I think most people will find combinations that suits them. (I tried that on each class and it works). Unfortunately Revenant doesn’t have this flexibility and I had this feeling of forced gameplay. Like in some story instances when you’re forced to play as some NPC with unique skillset.
I’m not yet sure how traits affect my gameplay – not enough time, lack of level progression but at least right now I don’t see any big impact on both weapon and utility skills.

Stronghold looks interesting. I’m not a big fan of Conquest…I mean I played it and enjoy it even but I liked more GW1 like modes (Arenas, GvG and Fort Aspenwood). Stronghold’s trying to connect those worlds and I hope it will succeed. When I first play it I just didn’t know what I was doing – you know running like headless chicken in attempt to grasp map layout and strategic places. I really like the idea of Champions that I can choose through build panel and that they gave very distinct effects. You could easily see that Champions are strong because of the focus that the opposing team had on them when there were unleashed :P
I’m not sure how I feel about focus on NPC as the main weapon against enemies fort but I think I can live with that – I would have to play more.

And for the ending thoughts – It’s a shame that my progress couldn’t be saved.

My two cents about new profession and PvP map

in Revenant

Posted by: Draghmar.2594

Draghmar.2594

Funny thing – I really missed character level progression here. :P When you play profession from level one then you have time to learn how to use each skill and what trait you should choose to get best result for your playstyle. And here I was thrown into level eighty and I had very little time to figure out how and what should I do (I couldn’t spend enough time to play because I had other things to do).

There were three weapons for my disposal: Hammer, Staff and Mace+Axe.
I really don’t understand Staff…I tried play with it in every game mode but failed miserably. This weapon is designed for close combat but I don’t feel it being effective enough. Probably I just couldn’t find right combination with traits but overall feeling remains.
Hammer is much better then staff and have really long range – much longer then I expected. But it’s too slow for my taste. I prefer fast combat so this weapon just isn’t designed for me.
Mace + Axe – Yes, finally something that gave me a lot of fun. This set is fast enough, have blasts and good combos. It really liked Frigid Blitz followed by Searing Fissure and Echoing Eruption. And best thing is that most skills are designed to pass through several enemies.

Legends…

I find Ventari a little bit odd. It doesn’t have any offensive skills so it’s hard to use it in open PvE. I didn’t use it at PvP – didn’t have time to learn it correctly so I didn’t want to ruin playtime for my team. I don’t see too much synergy with currently showed legends because they both are a little supportive (in their own way) even if you could use it to attack. I’m really looking forward to Shiro’s Stance which should be DPS based to balance out lack of DPS that Ventari gives. It could however be a great asset to some focused team because it’s first almost dedicated healer/support. Especially with Staff and properly chosen traits.

I like overall Mallyx’s feeling – dark and somehow evil. I just love Unyielding Anguish – the best skill ever. Especially in WvW where I could throw myself at the entrance to some building preventing enemies from entering. I know that other professions have similar mechanics that could be used that way but none of them could be used so often. :P First I thought it’s a little unbalanced but then again spamming it means I could not use anything else because if I would I just wouldn’t have enough energy to cast it. I’m not sure if I like that this skill teleports enemies in a random direction but I can live with that.
What I don’t like is the idea behind Mallyx which is having conditions to be more effective. But I think it’s because I didn’t have enough time to learn this (lack of level progression) because I should probably focus on Resistance and Pain Absorption.

I have mixed feeling about Jalis Stance. It gave me some protection through Rite of the Great Dwarf and Inspiring Reinforcement but then again I almost didn’t use Forced Engagement and Vengeful Hammers. I just didn’t find any situation when I could use it to gain some benefit. Hammers leads in this ranking because of upkeep needed to use them – it constantly draws energy so it’s very easy to empty it when you use some other skill as well. And as you know zero energy means loosing hammers.

ANET - Give us new armor skins, not Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Draghmar.2594

Draghmar.2594

Remember that many years ago, when GW2 was still in deep development, AN considered to abandon armor pieces idea for the one-slot piece. They stated that this way they wouldn’t had so much trouble with designing something that doesn’t clip with character model and pieces from different armors.
So basically outfits are residues of that.

What I’m afraid is that AN will lean towards outfits more and more because of this simplicity. And what I really don’t like is that they choose to forgot their previous principle to make armor for each type of profession so it would be easier to recognize who has heavy armor and who has light one.

[…]There was an imbalance. The wonderful part was how it almost always wasn’t important or didn’t get in the way.[…]

I really like that part. It’s almost impossible to balance out something with some many possible combinations. That’s why MtG has its balance problems as well.
I was playing PvP, GvG and PvE in GW1. I played a lot in each of these modes. I know that there were meta builds (especially after introduction of spectator mode) but there was always plenty of room for innovation that worked. And of course there were many builds that didn’t work at all…but until you try and test that you wouldn’t know.

Unfortunately people that liked to play with their build are only minority – AN said that most player didn’t change there skillbar or played only cookie-cutter builds. So we will always see simplification in every aspect of GW2 as there no reason to make it otherwise.

I don’t know why the change is so important to implement, but I’m gonna assume it’s to make it easier for newer players to understand[…]

I don’t think it’s a real case. Or at least not the biggest one. It’s just easier for them to maintain simpler system. In GW1 there is a lot of choices but ArenaNet said many times how problematic that was for them. Even little change to one skill could cascade through entire system. That’s why in GW2 they try to make everything they can to make game as simple as possible with illusion that we have mane possibilities.

Boss events: Why "lfg"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Draghmar.2594

There are two major reasons:
1. Anti DC – there are lots of DCs or crashes during big fights. If you’re in team then after reconnect you should join the same map as before. At least if it is not full yet.
2. All AoE effects works on teammates first so it’s a little easier to buff one another.

There are probably some other minor factors but I think those two (especially first one) are much often considered.

Lol…How you would make fabric that mimics glowing eyes? And I’d like to emphasis a keyword “glowing” here.

BTW By glowing I don’t mean that it should have exact glow effect, like from Photoshop for example. But it was easier to explain concept for mask that can change depending on state of your character. This new mask doesn’t have only glowing effect but has animation too. It could be done better, I know that. Especially that green version is only copy+paste of previous, red one with hue changed.

Remember that not everything can be released to public because of business agreements and things like that.
And I’m pretty sure they lowered their responses due to overall feedback. Because of dev process they could tell something that later has changed or even wasn’t released at all. People of course would rush and start screaming ‘how can it be?!’. So it’s safer not to tell too much about future plans.

I don’t like outfits because they killed one of the great ideas AN had – to recognize class right when you see it and not through first skills it uses. And now it’s impossible.

I’d like to have scars as a armor. Like in GW1. I personally don’t care that my medium and heavy armored chars won’t be using it. If AN would do it right then all classes could have it…I know they can do this.

Draghmar.2594

We have another glowing mask now in the Gem Store. I like the overall idea but they are not in my taste…at least not all the time. From my characters, the best match would be necromancer…that’s why I choose those ghostly eyes from the creation screen. I like them because they are more subtle than those in Gem Store. That’s why I have an idea: a mask that can change its appearance based on in/out of combat. To make it easier to imagine this lets combine Necro ghostly mask with glowing one. When you’re running in the world you have those subtle, ghostly one. And when the fight begins your eyes starts to glow!
I would really like to have something like this.

Like where are all the lvl 70-80 ( 85 +) World bosses that should have been put in Orr ?

Or maybe one in Dry Top ?

Why are the biggest and best which most lvl 80’s fight, all in lvl 50 – 70 zones ?

oh wait, then again, why are many of them in STARTER zones ??

Something needs doing to let the lower levels fight the lower level bosses and the higher 70-80’s fight level appropriate bosses as the Downscale does not work, we all know that and lower levels hardly get to “tag” the bosses and certainly dont have the raw dps output needed to get anything worthwhile from bosses in their zone range !!

There are bosses in Orr – temples events are like that. I didn’t do them for some time but last time they weren’t as easy but still had issues with blobs of people. At least there wasn’t any safe spot.

Low level events should be relatively easy-medium to finish. They should not be as hard as Teq. Like I said – removing bugs and safe spots would help a lot. Making some things more engaging (like making Jormag cannons worth something or force players to have some reason to kill monsters on the ledges) would probably fix even more issues.
Like this event with pirates and galeon – it is well designed. It has some backstory, chains and you know what and why you’re doing. But again – scaling makes it boring – gate harder to break then each dragon.

So most problems are with scaling (taging too) and safe spots.

You must all remember that things that Devs could do shouldn’t force them to some extreme work because we will never see it happen. That’s why they should focus on one little step at a time. For example – let’s make one event fixed (this way or another) and see what it will change in overall gameplay.

The Shatterer.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Draghmar.2594

Concept behind Jormag is quite good but safe spots are ruining it. I really like both phases and I intentionally don’t use safe spots to make it more fun for me. Attacks are telegraphed so if you pay attention you can quite easily avoid them with skill no 5 on both flametower and charzooka. If you would remove those safe spots, do something with cannons (for example – need to defend them) and more threat from the ledges I think it would be enough.

Teq was really hard for most people because there wasn’t megaserver back then so it was hard to have enough people then. Now it’s great in terms of difficultly.

And The Shatterer…yeah..it’s boring. Really boring. I didn’t do it for some time because of this. First thing would be to remove safe spot. The make mortars more important with need for defend (more branded on them). I think even those little changes would make it harder.

Same thing goes for Golem – safe spots. Don’t think there should be more changes – it is medium-level boss after all. Not every one can be strong – there has to be some progression with boss level.

Karka was hard…at beginning. I didn’t do it for some time and then for some reason it was easy…much too easy. Don’t know why. Probably because of fixed timer there are much more people there. I think more Karkas around would make it harder enough.

Centaurs are broken right now. It was my favorite chain of events. Yo could exactly progression of each step with dialogs and impact on map. And now it’s just race for chest. Last fight has even phases…but each of it is so easy…the only challenge is to put enough damage so his three minions would drop loot. (Power Gameplay FTW )

Behemor changes mad him a little bit harder. It’s still really easy but at least some people have to do more then spam #1 at his face.

BTW Remember that adding immunity for some attacks are not the way to improve fights (like making Basilisk Venom completely useless on big bosses…)

I think there is one problem with all the events around Tyria – scaling. Most events are hard enough when there is small group of people. It would mean that they were designed this way. And scaling doesn’t work on them good enough – increasing HP is not the answer – it only makes fight boring (see Svarnir Shaman).

It was the hardest chest for me to get from the beginning of the game because I had to spent a lot of time on it and do things other then grind (this was good actually – I only wanted to point out that the key took a lots of effort)…And this is how I was rewarded…few event runs would got me same (if not better) results.

New healing skill is supposedly a venom

Posted by: Draghmar.2594

Lol…I just tested this skill with a code that was on dulfy.net to see how my Venom build interact with it and…what a useless skill…
HiS provides me with 5832HP + 816HP through regen = 6648HP, invisibility and cond removal – 30s cooldown.
Skale Venom 1596HP per attack, which gives 6384HP – 36s cooldown…if I hit with all four attacks…and my exp tells my I won’t. And what it is even worse – (if tooltip shows everything) I won’t get additional HP and dmg from Leeching Venoms like I should if this skill is really a venom!
And I though we will finally get some other healing skill worth equipping…Poor skill with poor implementation.

The only advantage I can think of is Venomous Aura…but being better at support would mean to sacrifice my own ability to survive. Great idea…
