I use Radiance runes on my Aura-sharing Elementalist and all auras I generate myself and share with allies have the same duration.
Kitten Yourkaboodle started as token warrior with a tongue-in-cheek name, but I now play as her quite often in PvP. Visually I wanted a plain Jane look; that meant fairly practical armor with good coverage, no emphasis on features, and no spikes. It took a while, but finally settled on a complete mix-and-match arrangement, though I’m not totally satisfied with the legging’s aesthetic nor with its poor fit in to the boots.
Ascalonian chest, Guild Defender shoulders, Draconic hands, Priory legs, Scallywag feet
Ancient Silver, Olive Silk, and Olive Tint to match Legionnaire weapons, along with Brandywine as a personal touch of contrasting hue.
(She doesn’t use rifle that often; the Charrzooka made for a really nice screenshot.)

I’m fairly certain those are Asura Medium Tier 3 leggings, as well. The bunching up of the hem seems to fit, and I don’t recall any other bottoms being modeled as such.
Soulshard is rather massive.

Midnight Fire tends a tad toward brown. Perhaps Lava or Cinnamon might work, though I haven’t tested in game. (There’s always previews using codes form the wiki.) Have a look at the other browns and reds if etiher of those don’t match that well:

I know this is kinda an anti-trenchcoat thread, but I’ve been wearing this on my Charr Thief, and everytime I try something new it just doesn’t look as good to me. I think it’s the trenchcoat look that I like on him.
O_O
I ended up choosing the same weapon skins (Ebonhawk) and even the shoulder piece for my thief, yet it was in going toward a different look. Most of it was driven by the Midnight dyes I used, and ther were few medium armor choices that didn’t have clipping issues on charr that made the colors live up to their name.
*Duelist Coat
*Bucaneer Leggings
*Privateer Boots
*Whisper’s Secret Shoulderguard
Legging choices are about as bad, so I settled on Buccaneer’s because of the grenade badoliers. Shoulder pieces tended to look bulky, so it was a small compromise to go with Whisper’s for the daggers; dying it to match the Ebonhawk weapons sold it for me. (White, Gunmetal, and Lemon Ice dyes; Lemon Ice is the closest match I could find, but there may be better.)
Overall, I think it comes off as a retro-Hollywood swashbuckler style.

After we get the colored tags someone needs to organize and create commander tag pixel art on the map
Perhaps an 8-bit frog or something >.>
I’m sooooo there
lol
We would need 134 people with tags >.>
Can we do this?
The player limit on any one instance of a map is 125. Perhaps a small redesign could work, though I still am not sure if you’d get everyone into the same insatnce easily.
I don’t use the equipment panel too often outside of checking my uses of gathering equipment and using upgrade items (Runes, Sigils, etc.)
Instead, I put my weapons in my first slot bag, and when I want to switch weapons I open the Inventory and double click in there. I haven’t yet, but you may want to make the first bag an Equipment Box so that fewer looted items automatically sort to it unintentionally.
I finally managed to get PlayOnLinux to create a 64-bit virtual drive installation and copied the GW2 files into it. It does run better for the most part. (Apparently I was misinterpretting an error and thought that it couldn’t procede, so had kept Canceling when I should have been choosing Next.)
While GW2.exe does still crash regularly, it goes through far more game activity before doing so. It also shows noticeably increased graphical performance compared to either PoL’s default 32-bit virtual insatllation or with updated Wine (1.7.4-CSMT), though 64-bit (with Wine 1.7.10-CSMT-a632585) now exhibits the stuttering camera pan issue when first loaded up in an area.
I hope this is useful to some other Linux user out there. Perhaps I’ll find more information on configuring Wine better.

Are you having problems with any other programs? Is using the chord (holding left and right mouse buttons down) to run working?
My first thought is to check to see if Right Click is mapped to some other function somewhere, perhaps in the mouse manufacturers software. It may also be some hardware issue such as a worn out microswitch (button), a short circuit, or maybe even gunk or a small piece of plastic in the way.
Yes, Alex, the bonuses granted are cumulative.
Hmm … I can’t find anything defninitive from ArenaNet about wether GW2.exe is only a 32-bit application or has a 64-bit mode as well. It still stands that in my experience, when I run GW2 under a 32-bit version of Windows (or WINE interpreting as 32-bit) it crashes frequently, while 64-bit Windows does so only extremely rarely. I’ve never had to touch any compatibility mode under 64-bit Windows, either. For at least that, I see a benefit in at least trying to get WINE to interpret 64-bit Windows to Linux.

I found out recently that, while leveling, the more aesthetic gear tends to come from Karma Vendors, typically ones you unlock by completing Renown Hearts. (Not all Renown Heart vendors have gear available, though.)
Here is a decent guide I found; it’s not perfect, but does give a good starting point:

Hello, fellow Tyrians! I’m one of those people running Guild Wars 2 on Linux using the WINE wrapper (via PlayOnLinux.) While some things are different than on Windows, there is one problem I have carried over that has become increasingly intolerable.
The 32-bit version of GW2.exe crashes; a lot; at very inopurtune times.
I’d like to run with 64-bit support (my processor and Linux installation already are) but I am having a very hard time sorting out the various instructions out there. Worse, some contradict each other and there’s no dates posted to figure out which is up to date.
If anyone who has experience getting WINE (or PlayOnLinux) running 64-bit Windows programs, even if its just specifically Guild Wars 2, I would greatly appreciate any pointers or links to instructions. (I tried a manual PlayOnLinux insatllation, but couldn’t figure out which registry entries needed to be changed or how to get a command line argument entered.)
For the very basic build, full uptime retaliation is 0/2/0/0/2; it’s inexpensively combined with blinds as 0/3/0/0/2.
You can focus on either blinds or retaliation when choosing weapons:
Defnitely stick with Greatsword as it provides both retaliation and a blind.
For the swapped gear, I stick with focus as off-hand for its blind and block. Sword provides a blind, scepter provides a nice burst, and mace (though I haven’t tried it with this build) provides group block and retaliation / protection.
Some of this may depend on your build. I stuck with Shouts because of the easy access to Retaliation, and also Two-Handed Mastery for recuperating GS skills faster. If you go with Meditations, mace may be a better idea with the block to activate Might of the Protector.
I do switch out weapons as the situation changes. Staff and Greatsword help with speeding across WvW, so I use that and switch weapons when nearing a battle.

Hey, mrauls! It’s good to finally “see” a person that’s so active in the Guardian forum as of late.
I’ve been striving for a “not-too-heavy” look for my guardian, and previous attempts usually ended up with too much bare skin for my taste. Being an Asura, the shoulders and gloves tend to look overly large. With the new wardrobe system giving access to skins I gained in PvP, I took another attempt at it and I feel satisfied with this new look.
Koda chest (Heart), leggings (Fur), and boots (Paws). Priory pauldrons and gauntlets. I really appreciate how the raised patterns of both sets complement each other fairly well.
It appears to be an incorrectly large number of the same glow effect stacked onto of each other. Effects like that can lower framerates drastically, esepcially as they occupy more screenspace.
It could be a random bug on your side or an exploit of a glitch. If it does become a serious issue, you can try dropping the model detail (I believe that’s the name) to the lowest setting.
I also noticed this binding-without-warning behavior of the PvP Build panel. Even for those experienced with the game, the lack of any binding information or whether the skin is unlocked surely raises question or doubt in to how this behaves.
I was curious and equipped an Exotic that I was planning to eventually unlock its skin. The lack of a warning and instantly soulbinding the shield was surprising. At the least, I expected a prompt of whether I wanted to unlock the skin and maybe a warning that doing so would bind it.
While the result was harmless in my case, I’m left to wonder how many people have unwittingly bound equipment they had planned to move.
It’s simply reflecting how dedicated they were to the original Guild Wars. Over 113 years of play ought to be noticed.
The original post is gone?
I use Staff and Greatsword almost exclusively. Both work fairly well on the burrows.
For Greatsword, I’ll lay down Symbol of Wrath on the burrow, followed by Whirling Wrath. Binding Blade can be thrown out for any gravelings that remain while running to the next burrow. Just apply BB; don’t pull unless it’ll land your targets in an AoE attack.
Staff isn’t quite so great, but Symbol of Swiftness has good damage scaling. I’ll stand on it for the Swiftness, which does help since the burrows tend to be spaced rather far apart. Wave of Wrath, the auto-attack, doesn’t do a whole lot of damage by itself, but it is fast and will help with clean up. The real help is using Empower, though you’ll likely have to position yourself near someone rather than expecting vice versa.
Note, I only run in groups and have never done solo.
Out of curiosity, mrauls, what sigils do you use?
I hate to point it out, but this question tends to lead to a popularity contest. I don’t just mean here, in the GW2 Forums, but in general life.
Honestly, I don’t see a point in asking. Everyone has different criteria, and that changes their answer. If everyone states what their criteria is along with their answer, it would at least be worth reading the responses.
As for my answer, I honestly have none. I just meet a lot of random people.
I didn’t have any issues using my regular weapons, Great Sword and Staff. Binding Blade and Pull (GS#5) work to drag Warden II into it’s bombs while standing just outside of the explosion range. When BB isn’t available, I just use Staff for auto-attack and Orb of Light (#2) at range. Symbol of Swiftness is decent if you’re stuck on the far side of the platform. (Some damage is better than none.)
On the first day of Origins of Madness I was running to catch up with one of the escorts to a probe site. Suddenly and mysteriously I received all three pieces of the Tricolor Key, not being immediately near any action. I aseembled it and it only stated to search the wreckage of the tower.
I spent over an hour scouring. A few days late I returned to Kessex Hills and showed me where the chest “ought” to be. We tried offing some of the local veterans in case it was event bound. Nadda.
Now I read this thread and … I shouldn’t have even received the key pieces in the first place and there’s nothing to use it for? o_O
I suppose my tale has turned into a bug report, though I’m not exactly sure what the bug is.
I’ve been thinking of giving a copy of GW2 to someone who is fine with digital distribution, so I figured I’d take advantage of one of your sales. While it states “Give the Gift of Guild Wars 2” I couldn’t find any instructions on how to do this properly.
My plan was to have my credit card company issue a one-time-use number, so I’m not tying an account to a permanent one. Is that necessary? Does the e-mail information need to be my own or should I make it the recipient’s? Are there other fields I should fill differently than if it was my own copy?
Thank you in advance.
Could we try stealing a second off of each of the trailing ticks of Symbol of Swiftness and apply those to the first? It would be close to the previous 8+1+1+1 for runners, while maintaining the stacking for those preparing to run or dolyak runners. If there is a 60 second limit (which I seem to see on dolyaks) it could be a little better; it’s more likely to apply swiftness on the later ticks instead of being nulled because they’d go over.)
I did find one thing that became better with the change to Symbol of Swiftness;
Dolyak escorting.
It is now a lot easier to stack up numerous seconds of Swiftness on a dolyak, to around a minute. (At least that’s when I stop since they’ll generally take around that long to finish getting anywhere.) Of course, the only reason this works is because dolyaks are so much slower than even a walking player, in the first place.
Otherwise, this is a terrible disservice to the class. This has essentially determined that I choose from one of two sets of superior runes for WvW; Speed or Traveler’s.
So, congratulations, fellow Guardians! We’re the best shepherds, now! >_<
Could you specify what part of using a Line of Warding in a tower or keep wasn’t possible?
It seems like I cannot go without Two-Handed Mastery and as much Boon Duration increase as I can get just to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time in World versus World. A large part of it is because I’m backlining; I’ve been trying to change my playstyle, but I’m finding it difficult not dying even in Soldier’s (PTV) gear. “Joining the rush” isn’t always an option being on a very low population server.
Any suggestions?
I haven’t seriously tested Torch out any further.
Spirit Weapon builds of 20/20/0/0/30 and 20/20/0/20/10 still proved underwhelming.
Currently I’m running 0/0/10/30/30, having added Strength in Numbers and Battle Presence traits. I’m starting to think 0/15/5/20/30 with Signet Mastery may work better, but theorizing on survivability is difficult. I’ll just have to try it.
A quick bit of other news; I went and collected all the Range and Radius information from the individual pages of each skill. Here’s a brief rundown:
Virtues are all 1200 range as are the related traits Absolute Resolution and Indomitable Courage.
Justice is Blind only has a radius of 240.
Spirit Weapons have nearly limitless range, training on your last target. You can command them from any distance.
Staff Reaches 1200 range with Orb of Light, Symbol of Swiftness, and Line of Warding. Wave of Wrath, the auto-attack, is 600 range, and Empower has 600 radius.
Scepter Orb of Wrath (auto-attack) and Smite have 1200 range. Chains of Light is a more modest 900.
Focus Ray of Judgment is 1200 range and tracks, hitting up to four enemies or other allies. The radius of Shield of Wrath is 240.
(Shield Shield of Judgment is 600 range and affects yourself as well as up to five allies and up to five enemies. Shield of Absorption allegedly has 320 knockback. I only mention it since it can be paired with Scepter.)
Torch Zealot’s Fire (#4 seq.) has 1200 range which does not seem to track. Cleansing fire is limited to 400.
Trident Has 1200 range on all five of its skills except for Refraction (estimated at 600.)
Consecrations With the trait Consecrated Ground have 900 range.
Meditations Judge’s Intervention and Merciful Intervention have 1200 range.
Shouts All are 600 range.
Signets Bane Signet and Signet of Wrath have 1200 range activation uses. Signet or Mercy has 900 and Signet of Judgment 600.
Tomes Tome of Courage skills are either 1200 range or radius. Tome of Wrath is the same with the exception of Judgment at 600 radius.
I switched to Torch to try it out, but I’m going to need some time before I make any critique. Another skill that I hadn’t realized had 1200 range.
Right now I’m using three signets. They seem to work well for group play and useful enough for brief soloing.
Lastly, I experimented with someone else’s Spirit Weapon build in Heart of the Mists. (30/30/0/0/10) They’re decent 1200 range skills when Commanded, but overall the build is rather self-centered. I think I should go back and try 20/20/0/0/30, though it means a lack of Swiftness uptime.
Update:
I got two copies of Superior Rune of the Water and some Snowflake upgrades for Boon Duration (currently +47% total.) That allowed me to swap out “Retreat!” for Signet of Judgment.
Virtue traits are now maxed, adding Indomitable Courage and changing out Master of Consecrations for Absolute Resolution.
Those alterations created a huge boost in effectiveness, from travel time to survivability.
Sanctuary just isn’t flexible or fast enough to make a difference under my playstyle. I’m still trying to decide on what to exchange it for.
It doesn’t seem like investing all 20 remaining trait points in a single line is worthwhile. My thoughts on ten point each in Zeal, Radiance, and Valor:
Zeal – Protector’s Impace (III); lots of tall cliffs to jump off of in WvW.
Radiance – Signet Mastery (II); I’m running with two Signets already, both rather useful to have more frequently. Justice is Blind can shore up defense when I can’t maintain long range.
Valor – Strength in Numbers (IV); a very small investment for a lot of Toughness, unlikely to overlap with another Guardian. Valorous Defense can mean the difference in whether or not I’m Defeated in many situations.
My stats, none from weapons, but including those from Traits and armor:
1347 Pwr; 2112 Atk
1084 Prc; 12% CtC
1126 Tgh; 2016 Amr
118 CDmg; 5% CDur
20% BDur; 498 HPwr
I’m just wearing a mish-mash of looted gear at this point.
I like both Traits for Consecrations, but I found ground targeting to be far more useful. After playing around for a while, I agree that Sanctuary isn’t easy to use, especially in chaotic fights. Then again, almost everything that stays still works poorly in WvW.
Not sure what 10 points in Zeal would be for.
30 points in Valor; why is Altruistic Healing so hard to move away from when it is inherently so greedy. Worse is being stuck in place with a stay-put, channeled skill. The low radius of Empower doesn’t work so well with this build, either.
A question about Absolute Resolution; it states it removes three conditions; is that the total between all affected allies?
A correction on my part:
Consecrated Ground has 900 range.
I’m not sure where I had read 1200.
I’ve been running with CG and Master of Consecrations. Primarily I’ve used Wall of Reflection and Sanctuary, the latter being a good impromptu “ward” if on a lengthy cooldown. The former is great to throw up against archers when besieging forts (much better than protecting a small area, in my opinion.)
Two-Handed mastery, along with already having 20 points in Virtues, helps with running, but I still need to close the gap. It’s starting to look like maxing Virtues and using some Swiftness runes.
Overall it is still squishy and needs condition removal badly, but I’m still trying to come up with the best way to use 30 points. I’m not sure Right Hand Strength is worth it.
I hadn’t realized Virtues had a range of 1200. Perhaps that was from knowing the small radius (240) of Justice is Blind or thinking they had the same reach as Shouts (600.) I’ll try activating Virtues more often, now.
Focus has the 1200 range Blind / Condition Removal, however, testing Ray of Judgment, the travel speed seems absurdly slow. Shield of Wrath also provides a Blast finisher, useful for gaining Retaliation or combining with an Elementalist’s Lightning field for Swiftness.
You recommend Right-Hand Strength; should I be looking in to On-Critical Hit sigils?
I’m looking to try a WvW support Guardian at as long a range as possible, but not sure how to shore it up.
The gist of it is using Scepter + Focus with Staff on swap, Consecrated Ground (VrtII) which gives Consecrations 1200 range ground targeting, and at least Writ of Exaltation (III) from the Honor traits to increase symbols reach.
I prefer small group activities, but to tend to get pulled into larger actions. I’m looking for suggestions on how to fill this out. Some ideas are to go further with symbols, take faster skill refresh traits, or just concentrate on making my guardian less squishy.
Thanks in advance.
Since spirit weapons are attributed to our class, how about if they act like Virtues?
- All are automatically up and cannot be removed / destroyed.
- They give out a small assist automatically every so often.
- Each can be Commanded separately for a greater effect and then disperse until their independent cooldown is over.
They may have to stay “sheathed” until you are in combat for the sake of not making a Guardian overly visible in WvW.
Mighty Blow(Hammer #2)
Reduce base recharge time from 5 seconds to 4 1/2. Combined with Two-Handed Mastery (Honor IX) and around +50% condition duration, it would mean a constant source of Retaliation for Guardians.
I doubt it would really be overpowering considering the trait investment required.
You can preview the look of almost anything in the game (dyes included.)
- Go to the wiki and search for the item.
- In the blurb box on the right, there should be a Game Link. Copy it, including the square brackets [].
- In Guild Wars 2, whisper yourself with a pasted copy of the link. You can then secondary-click (right-click) and click Preview. (For dyes, you can preview multiple times to fill all of the slots; eliminate unwanted previews of the dye by secondary clicking on the slot and clicking Clear Preview.)
