I still won’t be pre-purchasing it or purchasing it. While the extra character slot is a nice incentive, it is also a band-aid response. What do we need 2 extra character slots for? Wouldn’t some gems have sufficed, how about dropping the prices of expansion by $10 on each version. The reason being is that they want your money via pre-purchase, they do not care once they have it. It is all a numbers game for them, HoT has already failed with its greedy and flawed business model. These goodwill bonuses of free character slots and gems will be gone upon release because they want you to feel that you ‘need’ these items and must pre-purchase but that is not true. If they cared about the playerbase they would have been standard given out to all current players now instead. They have showed us nothing about the expac that is worthy of 50, 75 or 100 dollars. Any trait/skill changes are happening to the game anyway so you don’t miss out, what are we paying for then? Does anyone actually know? A new class and a few maps is all I can see, is that worth it?
Well they have ruined what GW was for me, between lazy writing in the personal story, lackluster content with living story and the only content updates we ever see being gem store items upon gem store items…. GW is ruined.
I won’t be ever buying HoT, I am done with gems, screw every future expansion and giant middle finger to the greed of the company.
(That finger only half the size of the one they gave this community time and again)
Dude. It’s 50 bucks. I don’t know what world you live in but that’s not an insane price point. Sure it’s a tad high for what we’ve seen but every game and expansion a net has made has been awesome. They’re also giving out a toN of refunds. You’re being way to crazy
Why is it that only the people who bought the game from January 23rd – June 16th of 2015 get to avoid paying for the core game? Of all the people who should be able to avoid paying for the core game, it should be those that have been with the game since year one. To allow the greenest players, so far, a refund of Core GW2 but NOT the veterans is ridiculous. To further clarify, I’m all for getting new players to come to the game, this isn’t an attack on that strategy at all. I just find that a new character slot (worth about 10$) does not equal AT ALL the approximately 40-50$ Core game.
Please reconsider the offers you literally just made, because they’re kind of ridiculous. If anything, the veterans should be getting the refund for the Core game AND the extra character slot, regardless of which prepurchase they choose. If nothing else, give us the equivalent of that 50$ core in Gems with the Character Slot. That isn’t favoritism, it’s rewarding loyal players for their dedication to the game.
I don’t think you really understand the issue. It’s solved now. What youre saying makes no sense
Hey guys, just wanted to express something thats been bugging me a bit.
It seems lots of people believe that items they missed out on should come back so they have another chance at it again. I completely disagree with this.
I mean sure, there has been some stuff I wish I had gotten but missed out on but for the people that did get it, it adds a certain sentiment and value. What’s the purpose of releasing something everyone will get. It’s like the old saying goes " if everyone has it, no one has it."
Exclusive items should remain exclusive. People can already get cool flashy skins via the legendary weapon system, trading post, rare drops and even a few cool crafting options. Bringing ALL the cool stuff back here and there really devalues a players time and effort.
TL:DR exclusive items that were available in the past shouldn’t be brought back just because people are unhappy they didn’t get it.
What do you guys think?
PLEAAAAAAAASE make the back items from season 1 as lauriel + gold purchases from lauriel vendor
![]()
Other skins are there, but not Molten Jetpack……..why……..make it account bound so it couldn’t be sold on TP…………………pretty please…………….
Exclusive items are exclusive for a reason. How is anyone suppose to feel good about having something / buying a rare item / getting a rare drop when they just re release it again?
Not everyone is meant to have every item in the game. If you want it that bad, grind the gold and buy it. Trading post is there for a reason.
By that logic, Scarletts Kiss/ Rainbow should be laurel available too. Bad idea.
Entitlement is not a negative thing. American media has really ruined the word.
Also, my mate bought the game but has played less than 3 minutes. Does that mean he is paying Anet $1000 an hour?
This lmao. +1

Prepurchasing should look like this. No price complaining guaranteed
I agree this would be great. A deluxe and ultimate pack as well though, tweaked to fit. The standard edition should just have these 3 options when you click it.
I think 40$ is fair, they haven’t shown much content at all.
Deluxe and Ultimate account holders deserve a better finisher imo

There’s a thread on the GW2 reddit page showing how Anet ninja edited their HoT FAQ page to included this bull kitten. Check it out.
I’ve been selling trucks for years now. My customers really want me to start selling trailers. So I did. And if you pre order a trailer from me, it includes a free car. But only if you’ve never bought a truck from me before.
What a great deal wow so smart, intelligence level off the charts
Eye of the North which was an expansion, did not come with a base game and was a lot cheaper than HoT.
Eye of the North didn’t launch much cheaper than the base game of hot and it came with no character slots. It was either $40 or $50 at launch. It came with new territory but no new profession.
EoTN was 29.99.
in b4 Guild Wars 2 Expansion : Deep Sea Dragon, Dragon of the deepest pocket
Ultimate pre purchase $500 includes core game and HoT and one of the new legendaries!
It’s not. Of course, that would mean they were actually trying to be fair.

Its actually hilarious how they say the core game is included, yet I did not a serial code for my “free” core game. Just the HoT one.

So if an existing player buys the ‘core game’ again then shouldn’t we get 5 character slots for buying it again?
+1 mil.
Such a kitten shady move
This just proves no company is willing to be fair and must do crap like this to try and mess with people.

I think it just allows for beta access. I think later on the Expansion will be purchaseable stand alone for cheaper, without a core copy along with it.
You didn’t have to pay for beta access in the core version of the game in 2012.

Why is the core game included in the HoT Xpac? That means everyone who’s been playing since launch and helped support the game from the start is paying extra when compared to someone who just preordered HoT right now. This makes no sense ?
Making the people who believed in this game from the start pay more is a slap in the face honestly
There needs to be a different offer for players who already have an account. Or else we should be able to purchase each tier of the Xpac Preorder minus the cost of the core game.
Can’t believe they pulled something like this
(edited by Drakonath.7096)
Lol the time it takes to collect all the fossils you could have farming enough gold for 2-4 ascended pieces. Its not worth it at all if you don’t like the skins imo.
“Businesses have been doing so for as long as there have been taxes. No reason why dungeon sellers and their customers in a computer game should be an exception”
Yeah, there is no comparison with real life businesses to dungeon sellers.
As someone else stated, the trading of items was a norm in GW1 due to the forced wallet size. Here’s another point; Would Anet even want us FORCING players to pay by ecto? Artificial prices, something I’m sure they want to avoid given the reliance on an RNG system. On the other hand, maybe it’ll add real flow to the trading post.
And once again (since you seem to completely disregard it) dungeons selling is not supported, therefore they couldn’t care less about how it is effected by their attempts to combat gold selling.
And this.
Sorry. No ones changing the gold restrictions so you can have less complications clogging up lfg with bs dungeon path selling.
I was going to ignore this post but in fact its better if I comment on it.
I can see why you mad that people making some gold the way that is inaccessible for you and I can also see why you are happy and excited cause they face some issues with gold mail limit.
Today you are all happy and excited but tomorrow this sword can hit you with another edge.
You will want to buy some fractal to bump your level or get some easy daily rewards – and we won’t sell you cause we are all gold capped. Your best friend will ask you to lend him some gold to finish his legendary and you won’t be able to help him. Your girlfriend will ask you to help her with server transfer and you won’t be able to do that and play with her in WvW. You decide to organize big WvW guild and you won’t be able to accept any gold donations to upgrade siege. You wanna lead large PvX guild – and you won’t be able to organize any guild raffles. List may continue
Have a nice time playing solo in a MMORPG
I was going to ignore this post but it’s better if I comment on it.
I can see why putting a cap on gold per week to combat illegal gold sellers is annoying for you because its probably the only way you can get it and I can also see why you refuse to understand why it’s needed to regulate the games economy.
If I couldn’t complete a fractal on my own I would join a fractal guild and get better at it. If my best friend needs help with a legendary I can buy the materials he needs and send it to him. If my girlfriend asks for a server transfer I will give her $20 lol? Or she can buy it herself because she has a job like most people do. If I am organizing a large Guild WvW siege I can plan in advance and get other players to actual do some work as well since that’s what a guild is about, working together for a common goal and helping each other. If you’re in a guild where all responsibility is solely on the guild leader I feel bad for you. If I want to organize raffles I can easily organize raffles by asking people to deposit into the guild bank instead of mailing it to me. Wow that was tough.
“Today you are all happy and excited but tomorrow this sword can hit you with another edge”
If you can only think of one way to do something maybe you should attend a problem solving or critical thinking class instead of playing video games.
Then, perhaps Dungeon Sellers could ask for an item(s) equal to the amount of Gold they would charge. Just as in GW1 where certain items became currency. No limit there. =)
That seemed like a good idea and we actually tried to operate in globs of ectoplasm the week they capped mail gold limit. But unfortunately that didn’t work for a few reasons:
1. It was too confusing for new buyers
2. Buyers have to go to TP and buy ecto first before they can buy dungeons off of us
So this scheme adds too much hassle for buyers thats why they stop buying. The reason why ecto as a currency worked in GW1 was that everyone was literally forced to use something as a currency since your wallet had ridiculously low gold limit by design. In GW2 ANet got rid of ridiculously low wallet gold limit that’s why I dont see anyone seriously switching to ecto or something else any time soon.
Sorry. No ones changing the gold restrictions so you can have less complications clogging up lfg with bs dungeon path selling.
Dire supremacy is coming. If people with 2k condi can hit like zerkers, with bunker stats, I quit this game.
^
Who needs to mobility when you can sit in one spot and never die whilst also annihilating everyone else?
Most condition damage builds also run precision because landing a crit applies more conditions either through traits or sigils. …but I’m sure you already knew that….. right?
Passive aggressive much?
Yes i am aware of this. But if you read my post its pretty obvious I was comparing PVT and CVT builds.
Precision has a way larger role in power builds. Precision for condition builds is just a nice bonus and by no means required.
In light of the recent condition changes, it’s obvious they are getting a massive buff. I see a few issues though. Lets take Dire and Soldier gear for example;
Dire: Condition Damage, Toughness, Vitality
Soldier: Power, Toughness, Vitality
For an effective power build you need Power, Precision and Ferocity.
For an effective condition build you need condition damage and *condition duration
*which is mostly achieved through traits, foods and runes, anyways.
Why is it, that a condition build can virtually go FULL tank and really not lose out on anything, yet a power build must sacrifice 2/3 of its core stats.
In addition to all this, conditions will have a near infinite cap, stack intensively (poison/burn) and have synergy with vulnerability. Some conditions also come with a POWERFUL utility effect (IE: poison reduces healing). Conditions are also not effected by Protection or Toughness. This means the ONLY way to counter conditions is via condition removal skills. The only real negative to a condition build is the ramp up time.
Now lets look at a power variant. Its mitigated by toughness and protection. Which is AT MINIMUM a 33% dps loss in addition to whatever toughness the enemy has. Now, maybe that’s not too bad for a full zerker build but when you look at a soldier build (what I showed you above) you’re virtually doing 0 damage to anyone vs the dire build counter part who still maintains nearly maximum condition dps.
My view is that conditions should need another stat to reach full potential and be mitigated by toughness and protection.
IE: Condition Damage, Condition Duration, xxx
What’s everyone elses take on the recent announcements?
(edited by Drakonath.7096)
Resistance is 100% condition damage reduction. Much more potent than 33% (also, thieves and warriors get access off the top of my head, so it’s not revenant only).
Also, vitality becomes that much more important. Shaman, magi, carrion, sentinel, valkyrie, all that.
Like someone else already mentioned, retal procs on attacks, conditions are applied by attacks.
Just because one thing changes didn’t mean you’re owed “compensation”
Maybe google the definition of compensation. This would be balancing.
As for resistance. 1 skill granting resistance for a few seconds isnt much for counter play. I am willing to bet 100$ that if the new condi changes are released exactly how they described it will be nerfed/changed within 2 weeks.
No amount of googling is going to change the fact you aren’t owed anything. Considering the way they’ve described condition changes is pretty broad, I’m also fairly sure it could be interpreted many different ways, and none of them could be the way Anet is working on.
Would you be so kind as to locate where I stated I felt as if I was owed anything? Don’t just pull stuff out of your kitten and claim I am asking for compensation or feel like I am owed anything. I merely pointing out a potentially huge balancing issue with negating condition damage vs negating direct damage.
Back to being on topic. The fact conditions are now compatible with vulnerability and have no cap, while burning and poison are able to stack intensively means that we need more counter play for conditions. It’s pretty simple.
(edited by Drakonath.7096)

So Protection will reduce condition damage by 33% and Retaliation will work against condition damage as well right? That’s the only way I can see justifying the Vulnerability changes. Seems insanely strong for classes like Engineer and Necromancer, even a Shatter Mesmer can hit 25 stacks of Vul.
Sorry, but you picked that hat. If you didn’t like it, you should have picked another.
I don’t know why but comments like these make me laugh. People suggest things all the time.
I am asking for the removal of the candle protruding from my head. It really looks odd and makes the helm even taller than it already is! Please reconsider the design
screenie included so yall know what i am talking abouting.
“Zephyrite Sun Helm”
I agree, doesn’t really make much sense. Should be 200 or something especially because the animation is so slow
Seriously, it’s a terrible trait on multiple levels.
Problem 1. Power Underwhelming
180 toughness when above 90% health. Woo. If you average it out flatly (180 for 10% of the time), its an extra 18 toughness overall. Except as many players know, you spend far more than 10% of the fight below 90% health, so you probably have more like 3-5% combat uptime.
And the cherry on top? 180 toughness works out to be a paltry amount of damage reduction, even for low toughness characters.Problem 2. “I made my build around thick skin!” -No Warrior Ever
The trait adds nothing fun, or useful. It adds a forgettable trait that has no real relevance on the playstyle, build, or anything at all. Not every minor trait is supposed to redefine a class, but think of Fast Hands, Adrenal Health, etc.Fix 1. When the pain comes marching in
Move Dogged March, or Armored Attack, to the minor slot, and delete Thick Skin entirely. That leaves a new adapt trait, which I think could be filled with something shiny and new.Fix 2 When the going gets tough , the tough get tougher
Thick Skin COULD be worked to make it more interesting and functional. I suggest making it’s damage reduction a flat , which then inversely scales based on the warriors current health. Like so:
Thick Skin Trait: Gain 1 ‘ThickSkin’ stack for every 20 health missing.
‘ThickSkin’ Buff: 2% damage reduction, stacks up to 4 times. In other words, from 100% down to 80% health, no change. Once you dip below 80% you gain a stack which provides 2%. Once you dip below 60%, you gain a 2nd stack for 4% total, and below 40% you’ve got 3 stacks for 6% damage reduction total. If you’re healed back up above 60% (but below 80%) you’d be left with 1 stack, for 2% damage reduction.
Feedback welcome; fellow players and warriors, please let me know what you think!
i totally agree
On the bright side it was probably all useless stuff anyways
Why do Signets grant passive stats while not on cool down? Seems like it promotes less skill variety because of people and their stat optimization obsessions.
Just make it so one person cant play 2 months and get 3 pre drops while another player players for almost 3 years and gets nothing.
Thats the part people are upset about.
stuff
Dagger is still the most fitting candidate out of all the remaining weapons. It could easily just be two offhand skills like one that does more damage the more toughness the target has and one that is like a finishing blow thing that does more damager on low hp targets.
Actually, torch seems a lot more likely.
I think itll be torch.
I agree fast hands should be baseline. Not adrenal health though. To much free heal for baseline
I manage to make mine work with a few adjustments.
I use the Defenders rune. Not so great considering it boosts heal power, but consider the fact that not many, if at all, classes can block so many hits at once like the warrior’s shield. In a tough spot, that heal per block is a given. Not to mention you get Aegis every time you use a heal skill, so that’s more health.
The defense trait is almost maxed, with two majors that reduces shield recharge and increases stance time. Yes, there are supposedly better options, but I run a sword and all the good stuff for that are in a different trait.
Speaking of which, the Arms trait’s major, major improves crit when enemy is stunned, and there’s one in Strength that applies confusion if you interupt, though I admit it’s pretty kitten hard to pull off.
Also to supplement my shield tactics I have Defiant Stance that pretty much helps me stay alive even longer in tough fights.
So yeah, if put together right, you can be a hard tower to knock down. Only problem I have is those kitten poisons. Especially in areas in PvE where they just get spammed on you no matter what they do. I’ve yet to figure out on how to fix that. It does narrow your choices a lot, but I figured that’s how it’s like in GW2 anyway.
EDIT
Really, Anet? You replace the word that resembles the Hoover d-word with kitten? I have a pretty good idea what I’m expecting in the future…
Thats awesome but it didnt really match the thread haha. Do you think shield needs a bit of buffing?
After reading lots of threads (mostly reddit) about peoples views on ascended gear, ive come to notice the opinions are very split. Some love the idea, some hate it. Which is fine, to each their own.
These are poorly thought out ideas for multiple reasons. I would suggest that you fully think things through and see all the extremely large negative implications that these would have on the player base and developers.
Sure. Would you care to elaborate on these multiple reasons? Im just curious.
The only thing I can see that it effects is WvW.
I would suggest that you try to figure out the larger implications of your ideas
Well you were very helpful in this thread, thank you for your input.
Do you know what gold and time sinks are?
Do you know how much time and gold players put into obtaining ascended gear?
Do you think the devs are going to down grade ascended gear to appease these poorly thought out suggestions?
Do you think the devs are going to risk losing more of their player base and offer more refunds like the original ascended fiasco?
You think that ascended gear only matters in wvw? No it’s effects are game wide.
You really need to flesh out your ideas and think about the implications of such sweeping suggestions.
1) Yes.
2) Yes. This would allow them to invest slightly less.
3) I dont know, I am not a dev. Its more of a trade off, ascended gear would still retain its other advantages over exotic, and as you can see from some of my suggestions… maybe a few more.
4) I dont think people would quit the if they removed the small stat gain over ascended items and added other convenient and useful functionality.
5) Yes its effects are game wide, but it only MATTERS in WvW. PvE is a completely different story. It is REQUIRED for higher tiered fractals. Open world PvE doesnt really matter to be honest because most “challenging” content is done with groups and group coordination matters way more than the difference in stats from ascended for exotic. (For example, ive never heard of anyone making a whole ascended set specially for performing better during a teq run)Like I said, you need to think about the implications more and you will see how portly thought out these suggestions really are.
You still haven’t contributed anything constructive. But okay, I appreciate your opinion!
The constructive part was me encouraging you to think more about these flawed suggestions that will never come to pass in these forms.
The funny part is you haven’t actually described anything to show how they are flawed. You just asked me a bunch of questions which I answered. Moving on.
What do you guys think? Would love to see a red post. Cheers!
Translation: “If I were an anet lead developer and I wanted to see 80% of the existing players rage quit the existing game, how would I do it?”
lol?
80% of the player base doesn’t have an ascended set. Really awesome joke though.
After reading lots of threads (mostly reddit) about peoples views on ascended gear, ive come to notice the opinions are very split. Some love the idea, some hate it. Which is fine, to each their own.
I have a few ideas: (applying to armor and weapons only, trinkets are to easy to get)
Suggestion: Make all ascended gear equal in stats to exotic, in exchange give ascended gear the ability to change to a secondary stat combination. Similar to how a Legendary can change to any stat combo, allow ascended gear to have dual stat combination swapping. For example, if someone crafts a set of heavy ascended armor they can choose 2 sets of stats for each piece at the time of crafting and swap between the two freely out of combat. (example: I crafted a heavy set that can swap between berserker and sinister, or i crafted a light set that can swap between clerics and soldiers)
Reason: Most people aren’t going to make an ascended set at all, let alone multiple ones. For a small portion that DOES. Make it a little easier and a little more rewarding.
Complications: This would require a few recipe changes and such due to the current crafting system in which ascended recipes are stat specific. I really don’t see that as MUCH of an issue though.
NEXT
Suggestion: Allow infusions to be swapped out at will. This is directed towards Agony infusions, WvW infusions and the “other” infusions (gold, exp, magic find).
Reason: Is it really intended that I should make 3 seperate sets of ascended gear for WvW, Fractals, and PVE grinding? That seems insane and im sure no one has even bothered with it. If youre going to go through the trouble and costs of making a single ascended set… It should give you some options and advantages over exotic which is so easily obtained. (again not a stat bonus, so stats on infusions would be removed as well)
Complications: I dont really see any issues with this, it seems easy enough and it seems fair.
Now with all that being said I know no one is “forcing me” to make ascended items and i dont “have to do it” if I dont want to. But for players that literally have nothing else to strive for and are bored…it sure would make things a lot more appealing while also making things fair.
What do you guys think? Would love to see a red post. Cheers!

Cheers!

The only thing I can see that it effects is WvW because thats where the stats would actaully “matter”
on another note, no one has really answered my PvP/WvW question. Its never going to be an even fight regardless, player skill is never even. My question is why are stats a factor in one and not the other?

Re: Same stats as Exotics.
Upsides:
- Less incentive to get Ascended.
- A tiny bit more difficulty in PvE for whoever has Ascended armor/weapons.
Downsides:
- Less of an incentive to get Ascended. Since the tier’s purpose is to be wanted, this is directly contrary to the design goal.
- Those who spent the time and effort to get these items for the stat boosts have spent their time and gold (yes, and, even if they gathered all the mats, the opportunity cost of making the item with them was not selling the mats) are getting something taken away.
- The incentive to make them is greatly reduced, meaning the relevant sellable mats will decrease in price. This will negatively impact anyone who is selling the mats.
Conclusion: As much as I hated the inclusion of the Asc. tier, the downsides outweigh the upsides by a lot.
Re: Swappable Infusions
Upside:
- One wouldn’t have to make multiple sets if they want to use the gear in different types of content and one cannot stand to be without every last possible point of stat, etc.
Downside:
- Possible conflict with ANet design intent. They very well may want players to make multiple sets, furthering the long-term goals nature of the tier.
- Players complaining about needing to store the infusions in bags, meaning more space taken up.
Neutral:
- The agony infusion is much more important for FotM than the trivial benefits provided by the WvW, general or utility infusions. The only reason the “other” infusions even exist is because the infusion slot was in the gear, so when Asc. was ported out of FotM, they made something to go in that slot. Also, ANet at one point considered making infusions be the focus for progression. Now that they are pursuing progression via Elite specs and Masteries, infusion progression is out the window or on the back burner.
Conclusion: The only reason I don’t just shrug and give out a sigh of indifference is that I don’t know how non-trivial it would be to make the things removable. If you FotM, obviously you should be slotting AR. The other infusions are such a small benefit that unless the programming were equally trivial, I’m not sure it’s worth the effort. The storage space issue alone might make this a non-starter.
Woah love this dude. Really valid points.
I have a few of my own.
If people are crafting ascended gear SOLELY for the stat increase over another player. I would bet they are heavy into WvW. So really, this would effect those players the most. ( or not at all, depending on how you look at it)
The incentive to make ascended “stuff” is really just something to do. Players who have conquered all other content want another goal. Similar to legendaries. Legendaries however, do not have superior stats to ascended weapons, they have other selling points that make them more desirable.
Keep in mind ascended items were introduced basically along with the FoTM for the purpose of agony resistance and end game PVE. It was never tied to WvW in any way until people saw the stats were higher.
No arguement here at all. My question is why? If PvE stats matter in WvW why do they not matter in PvP?
The stat swap isnt necessarily limited to fractals. Having the freedom to swap to a different stat combination whenever you want without having to craft a whole new set and carry it around everywhere you go would nice. Thats all
I understand where you’re coming from, but people are gonna need some other incentive to have their ascended gear and hard work, downgraded for benefits other than stat swapping on the fly. Maybe the ability to select any rune combo free of charge, in addition to the stat change. Better yet, maybe even keep the 5% stat bump too.
However I think this would just create complications because ascended armor is held to the same standards and rules of ascended weapons.
Thats a cool idea, about the runes. Im glad you get what I mean, I also understand what youre saying. In the grand scheme of the game and how the developers designed it, the idea of ascended armor having better stats than exotic doesn’t seem to match the spirit of GW2. By the logic of exotic<ascended, why not ascended<legendary? Theres a reason legendary weapons don’t have even higher stats. its the same idea. They’re prestige items. “Hey look at me. im shiny”. Not hey look at me I have better stats. Its just really confusing.
