I wonder if we are on the same server. I totally feel your pain. I need the three green poi’s in the SW’ish corner of EB. There are a two I need on the Green map.

The other night the zerg made a strong push for one of them but we kept coming up just short.

I dont get it. We would have to walk in the map, and only then would be able to use waypoints? So…if im in frostgorge and want to go to orr…ill have to suffer over 9000 loading screens? It doesnt sound healthy.

That isn’t true. Not 100% of the WPs are contestable. There are plenty of WPs that you can use to enter any map you want. It will be more challenging with the Orr maps but you still will be able to go from Frostgorge to Orr. You just may not get the exact WP that you want. You will have to choose an open WP. Once loaded into the new map, you will be able to look at the map again and see which WPs within the map are open. No, this won’t double your WP cost. It will increase it a bit but not double it as some dramatic people are saying.

I am excited and really happy about these changes. Not everybody is going to be thrilled, I understand and am sorry.

My time is limited. I’d love to play 8 hours everyday but that just isn’t feasible. I know exactly what time I need to be on to do the world boss / event that I want. I don’t have to annoy my wife and tell her that it is 30 minutes to the window and then from there another hour +/- some. The worse part of Tequalt for me was sitting around with nothing to do just waiting for him to show up for hours.

Precursor rage… haha

I’d love to get a useful exotic now and again. I got 2 exotic Cobalts killing the Spider in Kessex Hills in a week and an exotic warhorn. I have gotten one other exotic armor that couldn’t be used by my class. I have received a total of 4 exotics in about 16 months of play 10 hours or so a week.

RNG can be pretty demoralizing. I’d probably mess my pants if I got a precursor as a drop, which I’d never expect.

Can’t you say the bottom 5% or even 10% DPS dealers of those in the event area actually receive the reward for certain large zergy type events? You could then do a minimum requirement exception.

Any person that is AFK or leeching for an extended period of time would not get credit or reward for it.

The Knights, for example, have 50 people participating in the event. That would mean roughly the bottom 2-5 people don’t get the reward unless they hit a minimum requirement of damage to the knight.

I am not a coder. That doesn’t seem too difficult to accomplish though. They are already tracking damage dealt by people.

Problem with this is that even if you had an event where literally everyone was contributing, you would still have people at the bottom. They were there, they were playing, they were helping, yet they did less damage than others. There will always be people who are missing out, regardless. Which isn’t fair to those people, and ends up in very competitive and often nasty behaviour and reactions from players which is the sort of competitiveness ANet wanted to avoid – like getting rid of node stealing and kill stealing. They don’t want people rushing to deal the most damage etc.

Okay do the bottom 3% or something small. I am not talking about a large number or node/kill/reward stealing. If you are the worst person out of 150 people, do you really deserve the same reward as the top 25% people? It is incentive to try hard and do better. I would also argue it would be extremely difficult to be one of the bottom 5 people in the knights event while being present and trying your hardest for the entire event, especially if you have afk’ers and leechers hanging around.

I also said to put in place a minimum requirement to counteract what you said. The event designers and have an internal discuss about what is considered a good honest effort by the player. If player x shows up halfway through an event, dies one or two times, WPs, runs back, and finishes the event; they should still be able to do “z” amount of damage. If player x is in the bottom % below the threshold but still does “z” amount of damage they get the reward.

As I am typing this, I am reminded that they already do this, don’t they? How come for some events it is successful but I only get a silver medal instead of a gold medal? My coin, karma, and exp isn’t the full amount as others. Why can’t this be done for these large meta events? If you get a silver, you get slightly less coin, karma, exp, and 3 bags instead of 6.

Toughness vs Vitality

You are right about fall damage. Vitality doesn’t reduce it. I was thinking more along the lines that you have more health so you can possibly fall further and still live. Not that that big a deal.

Not sure which one to pick. I am sure there is no real terrible choice between Berserker, Soldier, Valkyrie, Cavalier, or Celestial.

Toughness vs Vitality

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Drew Blood.1586

Drew Blood.1586

I have made my Advanced Spinal Blades and was doing a little research about which stats to choose. I understand the difference but in a round about way aren’t they the same?

Vitality is a defensive attribute. Each attribute point put into vitality increases the maximum health of the character by ten hitpoints. More health allows a character to better withstand burst damage and degenerative damage.

Toughness is a defensive character attribute. Each attribute point put into toughness increases the armor of the character by one, which improves the character’s ability to withstand direct damage. Toughness has no effect on falling damage.

So Vitality helps you more with ongoing damage and fall damage but Toughness is more raw damage from being hit?

I am still a little too squishy. I am not as good as I’d like to be with dodges. I am worried that Soldier’s is too defensive for me though.

And yeah I know… Beserker’s or nothing…. RAWR!

I would imagine that I can take the memory out and plug it into a new system.

I would have to look at the optic drive to see if it can be unplugged or not.

My computer’s motherboard died last week. I need a new computer but honestly Guild Wars 2 is the only game that I play. The machine won’t be used for anything else that is demanding.

I am always worried about buying and spending more than I need.

What recommendations do you fellow Tyrians have?

I do have:
Graphics card (EVGA nVidia GeForce 9800GT 1 GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card 01G-P3-N988-TR)

PUS (Cosair CX500)

Windows 7

I can use those components to build a new machine but I have never attempted that beforehand.

Or if there is a machine that I can just buy, I would be willing to do that.

Sorry I missed the budget. I would like to stay under $750, which I know isn’t a lot but I don’t have a rich aunt willing to spend $5k on me.

PvP reward chests question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Drew Blood.1586

Maybe this belongs in the PvP section… I don’t PvP and I don’t really get the system over there. I have some PvP gear and two reward chests that are taking up space. Is that stuff now usable in PvE? Should I hang onto my chests still or open them? I have a PvP hammer in my inventory and I don’t understand how to use it.

I have 800k karma.

I only do PvE at this time. I don’t think I will do any WvWvW soon and definitely not PvP.

Up until this point I have used whatever best piece of armor I have picked up and found through my journey throughout Tyria. It is a miss match of pieces both in appearance and traits (Zerker, Carrion, Cleric….). My gear is rare level with the exception of my boots, which are one tier lower. I have done a decent job of surviving and doing the various achievements and world exploration.

I feel it is time for me to take the next step. I am starting to get serious about map completion in Orr. I need something that is a little more buffed up. I guess the reason why I have waited so long is a combination of money, haven’t found a look I really liked, and not sure which step is best to obtain it.

I guess what I am asking is:

Should I jump from rare to exotic or skip exotic and go to ascended? I am level 400 armorsmithing in crafting.

Do I use the money I have saved and buy armor from the TP, do I grind out a fractals until I have earned enough for my armor, or do I use karma to purchase armor?

Any other tips you can share? I am more a casual player, so I guess I don’t want to waste my time and resources going about it the wrong way.

Yak’s Bend had 3 commanders going at one point leading a decent sized zerg on each level last night.

I rarely start out with a zerg. I enter the first level when I see one or two others enter, especially if the offshoot event is going. As we move up, it seems people come out of nowhere to join us. By the third level, there is almost always a good sized zerg going.

I did the Hybrid 5 times last night. Throughout the 3 hours I played, there were people looking for a group to do it. There was never a lack of willing help. The groups would form up pretty quickly usually 4-5 people too.

As far as the meter being the same across servers, makes total sense. They aren’t going to leave it up for some servers and not others. It can easily be player based across all servers. Just because they are the same doesn’t mean it has to be a timer. I don’t remember where but I got the impression it was player based.

We beat him twice last night but the first time it did seem like his life steal was active for quite a bit longer than the second time and the frequency it was used was more often.

We probably had 80-90% of the zerg as melee. The ranged ones would spam aoe stuff when all the skeletons spawned. It was a fairly large zerg but not as big as the Teq stuff.

Yeah, I usually spend about an hour but usually a little less in Sparkfly waiting but I use that time to finish map completion and work on my dailies.

I don’t get what all the complaints are about coordination. You need 6 people on turrets (who know what they are doing), a small handful to guard each turret location, and the rest join the zerg. If you don’t know where to go ask in map or the easy default is join the zerg.

The afk players can screw things up.

Tequatl Not Designed For Casual Gamers

Drew Blood.1586

I am a total casual gamer. I usually don’t play more than 4 or 5 hours a week. I was able to get my Teq wings and do all the Teq achievements for the title (minus jump the huge wave). I have played him roughly 8 times and beat him probably 5.

I don’t have great armor or weapons on my warrior. I have what the game has given me. I haven’t crafted or bought any that I am wearing or using. I think that my boots are green but I know for sure my leggings are. The rest of my armor is rare. I use that pact greatsword (rare) and the Arc longbow (exotic). I couldn’t tell you what type they are for sure, some are carrion and others are even berserker (I know it is a big no-no for this fight but it is the best I got, sorry). The last 4 fights I have done I haven’t been all the way dead once.

I love this event.

As a casual gamer, I get it. Not all content is for me and I am okay with that. I am not paying a subscription so it is fine. I didn’t even enter SAB. I wasn’t my cup of tea. There is plenty of other stuff for me to work on in the game.

I don’t get why people are so up in arms and ready to quit the game because they don’t like the way one thing was done. I don’t think it is perfect and there are things that could be done differently but in my mind that is no reason to light up the torches and grab the pitchforks.

You’re patting yourself on the back for something you didn’t actually do. It wasn’t you that won, it was the groups you happened to be with that won. If you had gotten in 8 different groups, after waiting an hour or two, and these groups failed as most groups do then maybe you would be seeing what others are complaining about.

The ones that I failed were the first two days when nobody knew what they were doing and I was in an overflow on my own server with less than a 100 people. I don’t die. I am good enough to jump 90% of the waves, which seems to be the biggest kill of the zerg. I am accurate with the Ice Bows that are dropped. I use an exotic weapon in the ranged zerg so the DPS is decent, could be better but is good enough. I get quite a few kills when defending the batteries.

To say that I am just riding coattails is incorrect.

Edit: after rereading your comment, I may have misunderstood you. The biggest part of the challenge is making sure that you are with the correct group that puts you in the best position to win. That is the reason why I joined TTS. To make sure I was in a group that was dedicated to beating Teq. They aren’t arrogant hardcore jerks or whiny casuals (which seems to be the too labels). They are cool have are willing to invest time to teach others how to do it.

Unfortunately some people are just jerks out there.

Different scenario but similar experience is whenever I do the champion farming in Queensdale. There is so much arguing and bickering about the order of killing the champions. There is always fights and nasty things said in mapchat. I find it so lame on many different levels. The champions spawn so frequently it doesn’t matter. You have people fighting about who is more selfish between the zerg (about 20+ people) or the 2 or 3 that want to kill them out of order. You can be the judge and that is a different argument for a different time, I guess.

Drew Blood.1586

To be fair, making friends can be hard for some people. There’s a psychological term for it, but it escapes me at the moment.

You don’t even have to make friends to get into an organized group’s server. I’m not exactly an outgoing person – I’m not even in a guild on my server. Nothing but a perceived “hassle” is stopping them from hopping on a designated voice chat to ask for an invite, or keeping track of commanders/guilds they see leading frequently, and asking them for a ferry into the correct instance.

I get the impression that “too much of a hassle” for this person is anything that requires more effort than just “log in, waypoint, receive chest.” And to that, I say not everything in every game is meant for everyone. There are plenty of things I will never do (or be able to do) in this game, and you won’t catch me complaining about those things being too far beyond me, so maybe it’s time to accept that Tequatl isn’t meant for every type of player either.

That said, I do believe Tequatl should continue to be as deadly as he is, but scale downwards for fewer players so that smaller servers can have a chance to gather the numbers to tackle him.

Yep.

I went into the TTS thread and saw a guy telling people to whisper him for an invite. I logged into the game last night. He was on. I whispered him and got an invite to the guild. In the guild chat people said to join them in a party to get to the correct over flow, so I did that. They were also saying that Teq was 30-45 minutes away.

I worked on my Daily progress in SparkFly Fens for about 30 minutes and then went to the Teq section. He still wasn’t there but the event just north at the heart was, so I did it. I read through the instructions and like a good soldier joined the zerg. I waited about 5-10 minutes and it started.

I fought my little heart out even. I only died once and immediately went to the wp, like I was asked to do.

We beat Teq for my first time. The in game rewards weren’t hot but they more than covered my costs. The thrill of seeing Teq go down was awesome enough. So awesome and satisfying in fact I felt like I needed a cigarette.

I hung around the in the same overflow and worked on the remainder of my dailies and map completion. I finished the daily and my map completion went from 15%’ish to 65%.

Teq appeared again so I joined the zerg. While we didn’t defeat him the second time, there was a problem with the turrents, we did get him down almost to 25%. The second time the map was thrown together very hastily and we didn’t have a commander. It was a lot closer to a PUG (if I understand the term correctly) and we still almost did it.

Long story short…

I am a casual noob playing my first MMO and do so by solo playing 95% of the game. I sent one whisper message to another player. He didn’t say anything to me, only sent a guild invite. I repped the guild for an hour or so. I didn’t have to go out of my way and be anymore extroverted than normal.

I showed up and I killed him.

If that is too much to ask then I am sorry.

I am a casual player. I totally understand and am okay with not all the content and updates being for me. I know that I hate jumping puzzles. I don’t whine and cry if they add a new one because it isn’t something I don’t like or that it is too hard. I just go on my merry way working towards map completion.

I think that this has become more apparent for me at least from new Teq stuff. I would be nice to have a sub category for each server. That way I can post things for other people on my same server.

I think it would be nice and helpful.

I am not sure if this is okay to ask here. If not, I sincerely apologize.

Does anybody have a good tutorial on how to install teamspeak and do whatever I need to do to be able to talk to GW2 peeps?

It appears that you are as successful as most other servers with higher populations, if that is any consolation.
