I didn’t say my build in particular was the only viable build. In fact, it definitely isn’t the most powerful build (for burst or survivability) out there, but it’s perfect for sPvP, because it’s very balanced in that it allows me to stay alive, has enough damage to kill pretty much anything but a good bunker, and has a lot of control.

I’ve played Condi engi before, back when it was truely good. (before launch) and I thought that even at that time, it was still more of a pubstomp than a tPvP build. Then engi condis got nerfed (was needed) at launch and while it’s still good, and a great pubstomp option, the Rifle just performs so much better than pistol, it doubles (if not triples) your utility, without sacrificing those precious utility slots.

I don’t really like the SD burst either, you need to go far too glass to give it the kick it needs, and it becomes a very unforgiving build to play.

As far as damage goes, yeah, the condi nades and Hgh is all good and well, but that doesn’t, imo, make for a good sPvP build, especially for an Engi. Engi’s really excell at utility, and control… and you lose what makes your class so darn sexy, in order to get all that condi from the elixirs and crap. It’s also impossible to hold a point with it, it’s purely a roamer build, and holding points is crucial, and other classes make better roamers simply because they can travel between points faster.

Think of the Engi’s rifle more like a blunderbuss.

It’s the coolest weapon in the game, for the most fun class in the game.

We’re not a “sit from afar and snipe doodz” class, we have medium armor for a reason, it’s meant to be used, get in there and do damages!

I’m not super knowledgeable about most classes, but I’m pretty much a genius* when it comes to engi’s, and what they can do in tPvP. That and I could use a group to queue with, I hate solo queueing soo much.

I`ve seen Ostricheggs go for HgH + power – not my cup of tea though…

Overall power builds are not viable in tpvp imo – no damage no nothing – I used to try a flamethrower build with perma 25 stacks might + berserker + 20 points in the crit % tree… damage output was still insanely underwhelming even on FT (2) double crits

I dont play WvW but if i did i would probably spec for crowd control and escapes so probably rifle + prybar + something

Power rifle is really the only viable thing for engi imo, especially in tPvP. Other classes will simply outclass you with Condis.

The problem with your build is that you went full power burst, relying on the rifle and the FT for your damage. Which is silly, because the FT isn’t a damaging kit, it’s a control kit, and the rifle is a split between control and damage. How you build a glass rifle build (why you’d want to for tPvP, idk) is tossing an air sigil on the rifle, grab static discharge, and use the rifle and tool kit, grab utility goggles to add to your burst, then you could either make yourself slightly survivable by grabbing a stunbreak or tossing something else on that will add more to your burst… though you shouldn’t need anything else.

Seriously, I don’t understand why people think HgH nades builds are the only viable option for the Engi class in PvP… do you people really know your class that little? It’s kind of sad, and probably one of the contributing reasons to why PvP is failing in this game. Lack of game knowledge.

Like the OP said, move 3 to 2, with 2’s timer…

But then make 3 a rezzing turret.. and boom, we’re in that “can heal after downed” group.

Or 3 as an elixir that will make you uninterruptible, and thus able to keep the rez channel from 4 going.

Just a thought.

I wish they had more people willing to play tPvP, so they could go back to the 8-team tournies from launch.

That way at least teams would actually face off against other teams eventually.

There’s no such thing as a 2-team tourny… it’s simply a match. :|

I’m a power engi. I only play sPvP.

Why do I play Engi as power with a rifle? Because as neat as the pistol is, and how survivable the shield makes you… The rifle simply outclasses them, it’s too versatile not to use. It also easily has one of THE best auto-attacks in the game, as the shots peirce without needing to be traited.

The rifle gives you mobility, and AoE burst and a KB interrupt on a fairly short CD, not to mention the short CD immobilize. The game is AS much about damage as it is about control, and the rifle has both of those in spades, making it easily the best choice for an engi in Spvp. You have to actually use up a utility slot for any semblance of control if you use pistol, and it won’t be as good as rifle.

Now, I don’t want to say that condi engi’s are bad… BUT, there really isn’t any place for them in high tier PvP, and it’s why you won’t see many in high tier shoutcasted matches. Other classes simply do Condi better than the engi.

Another great reason I use Rifle(and power) over the pistol, is that it’s under-rated yet right in that balance window where it really won’t be touched. I played a power rifle build back when this game launched, and recently got back into the game, some 4 months later and my build is still pretty much as viable as it was back then.

I left a tourny match the other day… but it was because it was already a 4v5, and a teammate was like “Oh, it’s a 4v5 good time to make a sammich.”

Soo I was like “Well, good time to leave then!” and I was out.

I think it’s actually called “PromoteSkillTarget” in the menu(I think*), but anyways…

It locks your target when you use a skill on them. If you hit a minion by accident you won’t auto target the minion.

They should scrap it, and put some other trait their.

Why?

Because in a game about position, and mobility… aa trait that has you standing still to benefit just isn’t worth it, unless it’s giving you haste or something on top of a damage boost… but still, I’d rather see something else altogether.

Oh, well that’s pretty cool that they got sigils working. I’m fine with the nerf to Grenades … seeing as it must not have been much to begin with, looking at where nades are now.

Engineers have really been right in the area ANet has wanted them since launch, and it’s really been a balancing act of bringing other classes down, or up to the Engi’s level.

That said, we STILL have some broken mechanics that need fixing, with certain traits not working quite right, along with signet/rune issues as well.

Did they ever fix the weapon sigils not working with our kits btw?

That, and I GUARANTEE you that ANet has tested many many different game modes for sPvP before settling on conquest. And CTF was no doubt in that list.

I think engi grenades are fine where they are, tbh.

I had a HGH nade engi talking smack to me in a game yesterday, because I wasn’t pro enough to be at the top of the points or whatever roll eyes. I then proceeded to destroy him in a 1v1 on side points, twice.. he couldn’t get me under 50% HP. ( 3 or 4 other times as well, but they were interrupted)

I play a rifle engi.

Those FoTM builds will always come and go, though… So it doesn’t really matter.

I can beat phantasm mesmers with my Engi.

I run a rifle build. It’s not easy, especially since I’m rusty (back from a 3 month hiatus) But I’ve won 1v1s with phantasm mesmers about 60% of the time I actually find one and can fight him 1v1.

And i agree to OP completely, anet should buff engi dmg outside of grenades, since now they cant even kill glasscanon.

Huh? As an engi, I can tell you that I certainly can kill just about any class.

With a rifle. Because cool engis use dat rifle.

Experience: I’ve been playing this game for a long time, and stopped playing because I got bored with how easy PvP was for me. (lack of competition) Also, a top player in SWToR before it truly went to crap. Along with basic MMO experience dating back almost 8 years, competitive shooters, and MOBAs.

Other (Anything else that you would like to add): I’m just putting my feet in the water here, seeing if there is anything out there. I’m assuming with some of the spectator stuff coming, competition might finally emerge and we can have some fun. I would PM me here, before trying to find me online. I only go online to sPvP, and one can only do so many solo queues and 8v8s.

Bomb kit is a decent pubstomp spec…. But against decently skilled opponents, good luck getting consistent damage with only the bomb kit.

As skill goes up, the bomb kit becomes less and less effective, which is why you don’t see people QQing about it, or any talk about it needing to be nerfed… because it doesn’t.

If your using a FT on a zerg…. well, GL with that, it doesn’t have the range to be anti-zerg, furthermore, I’m willing to bet that it has like an 8 target cap (can hit up to 8 targets)

Now, the FT’s damage, imo is fine, at least it’s base dmg is. I would like to see it’s range and cone “radius” increased though.

What I think the FT really needs though, is for FT5 to be dropped, and redone, again. The tiny, super short smoke field thing is soo terrible. I’d like to see something that does dmg, maybe not a lot, but something.

And Dracu is correct about it being great for on-crit effects.

Grenades UW are pretty OP, and I think you’d end up seeing a significant nerf to ‘nades if they were given UW’s targeting, on land.

That said, I do think that Grenades need to be looked at on-land.. Their skillcap is so much higher than anything else in the game, especially in sPvP, it’s pretty ridiculous.

Personally, I’d like to see what happens if they increase the grenade’s projectile speed enough so that you aren’t leading 500ft at near-max range just to hopefully hit somebody on-the-move.

At 80, all kits are set to 975 base dmg.

Do you know what they were set at during BWE2? Some were set as low as 400, others around 700.

In short, they’ve been buffed significantly, they don’t need their damage buffed anymore. Some of the skills/toolbelt skills could definitely be changed and buffed however. (looking at you, FT5!)

I honestly think that the only base dmg buff the engi needs at this point, is turrets to be buffed, possibly scaled with your main-hand weapon. They are just soo weak (in dmg) for their limitations (immobile).

And finally, the Engi is in a pretty good place for all game modes at the moment. They just happen to be much weaker with Condition Damage builds than they used to be. (which I hope gets fixed, because I loved my condi engi)

All engi kits have base dmg (at 80) of 975. Which is pretty strong. I’m pretty sure it’s comparable through out leveling.

So no, your kits are independent of your weapon stats, however, your weapon stats do count towards your toolbelt skills, if you have your weapon out.

There is also no reason you shouldn’t be using your main weapon. Kits are strong, but not nearly strong enough to ever fully replace your main weapon.

I haven’t been able to Sell anything on the TP since launch, even when it’s up, and I can see the TP with items and everything, when I go to “sell items” the page loads, but it doesn’t show that I have anything to sell, and the UI inside the page doesn’t seem to load either.

This is very annoying, because I missed out on like 10 gold when prices for copper, iron, and silver were super high and I couldn’t sell anything. >.<
