Suggestion: Better Jewelry

They have added a couple of things for JC’s, such as glass mugs production, but it’s hard to come up with useful post-exotic items a JC can make that isn’t easier to get by many other game methods, given how woven into everything the ascended trinkets have become. Auras would be an interesting thing, if for example there is some way to craft an item that can be forged with an ascended trinket to imbue an aura.

On a side note — I almost completely blocked out your post’s constructive part due to the use of “make x great again,” which is a phrase fairly well guaranteed to annoy the heck out of about half the population (judging by news reports). It certainly grates on my nerves every time I see it used. I will gently suggest that perhaps it is an unwise addition to a post meant to garner positive responses.

So americans are half the population now?

I think China want a word in on that.

This phrase is all around the internet these days and even though I am European, it still annoys the kitten out of me.

To the OP’s suggestion, I’d like to see some love for jewelcrafters as well. It sure would be pricey to craft ascended jewelery, but I don’t see a reason why we can craft everything ascended but jewelery.

Since we have the search panel, I’ve never had any trouble finding what I want to craft. It would be nice, however, to have a little check box to see which things I have materials for.

On the other hand, having to manually put together five things to combine with three other things to make a single bush or a chair is something that gets on my nerves from time to time. Oh, the endless joys of scribing… :)

while those are plausible scenarios, I honestly doubt Taimi wants them to happen.

Yes, that’s kind of my point there. I’m sure she has only the best intentions, but despite that anything could go wrong. And after some kind of dragon doomsday scenarios, there sure would be some survivors not considering her motives and blaming her. Even our history has many events misinterpreted by those who survived them.

But of course, we are talking purely hypothetical here… :)

wouldn’t it be great if there was like a super villain who’s really powerful, and sometimes just casually shows up for some dialogue without all the villanous pompous behavior? Just like, oh hey, you here? just some local nice guy who’s friendly to everyone and in the meanwhile is just preparing for the end of the world. Maybe a motivation like “I’m a good guy, but I know when the bad guys are gonna win, so i just casually slip in there”

It would indeed be awesome to have some unusual bad guys. :)

I can even imagine a chain of events leading to Taimi being later portraited as bad one. Maybe her experimenting with strange inventions and energies would lead to a massive catastrophe? Maybe she’ll end up making the dragons more angry? Maybe even so much angry, that even our heroes cannot save the world and the remaining survivors would blame her?

You know what they say about actors…if there is something making you hate / love their character, they’re doing the job right. Storytelling is about emotions, there are characters you like or you can connect to and then there are the others.
Can you imagine reading a book where there are only nice, likeable characters? Would be boring, wouldn’t it?

The reason I can't get into this game

I’m curious what the community thinks. Do you guys have the same problem? Do you have any ideas to solve it? Is there actually a way to play the game I haven’t discovered that circumvents this issue? Let me know.

Not sure if I’m going to be helpful here, but anyways…
My leveling-up is always a kittenaotic. I like to be drawn into stories and dynamic events. I’m using weapons & skills I like, not those most efficient. Sometimes I’m getting lost and wandering to some higher lever areas, where I have to run for my life. And I love it that way. Maybe the answer to your problem is not to be the best and most efficient, but to explore and enjoy the world around you.
Have fun. :)

Is there a single modern MMO with “challenging” leveling? FFXI is the last one I can think of that could be called difficult.

The definition of “challenging” varies from player to player, so we could talk about it all night. I’ve found Wildstar quite challenging for me, yet for many people out there it could be a piece of cake.

During leveling-up I had most fun with fire elementalist. I still like to run around with her and burn some bad people from time to time.
Recently I’m trying a warrior with longbow. Again, shooting fire and kicking stuff. I must have some fire obsession, I guess. :)
For more serious stuff like fractals or world bosses I prefer my druid. Just like the OP I’m used to play support roles and the old dps competition isn’t exactly my cup of tea.

How do I play, you ask? Like a cat, basically. :)

I like to explore, run around maps gathering wood and listening to some loud music. Even singing along occasionally.

Joining a squad for world boss / meta map is not a problem for me. Fractals and dungeons on the other hand I do only with my guildmates. The idea of doing fractals with strangers is similar to being locked with said strangers in a small room while everyone’s looking over my shoulder (yes, I am exaggerating a bit here, but I’m sure you get the idea).

In my guild I’m talkative, spontaneous and a bit crazy sometimes. Being the guild’s leader I even enjoy organizing guild events & missions. But only because our guild is a small group of friends I know for years. And they know me and my moods. :)

And please, oh please, don’t invite me to a party without saying a word… Don’t get me wrong, I’m more than happy to lend a hand whenever I can. But talk to me first, okay?

First of all, I always try to find a way to obtain materials I need by myself. Especially materials I’ll need for a longer period of time.

Sure, if that’s your personal preference. Unfortunately, in this game, that might mean you have to grind — gold is a currency that we can use to pay someone else to grind for us.

And secondly, and this is strictly from my personal view, I don’t agree with the price on the Trading post. The difference between pre-Cadalbog price and today’s price is just too big.

I can understand that you might be unwilling to pay the higher price (who doesn’t hate paying retail?). Is that what you mean by “don’t agree?”

Essentially, the market price is set because lots of people are willing to pay a lot more, so it’s a bit like disagreeing with the weather, i.e. it is what it is due to forces beyond our personal control.

Anyhow, I hope that you can reconsider your stance on this particular material — I’d hate for you to burn out on an otherwise fun game because of a low drop-rate on a tradeable item. (There are already many things for which there is no TP alternative and require our endurance to acquire.)

Either way, good luck with your endeavor.

For the first part of your response: I don’t mind grind, as long as it takes a reasonable amount of time. I’m aware that in my situation it would be timewise much better to just farm Silverwastes, sell materials and buy the lodestones I need. But because of the current price and, let’s say, my stubbornness I’m much more willing to run around Dragons stand and farm the slivers by myself. Luckily, Dragons stand meta is my favourite one.

And for the second part…maybe I used a wrong expression there, since english is my second language. There is an expression in my language which can be translated as “voting with my wallet”. With the lodestone’s price, I’m doing just that. It is absolutely fine that other people are willing to pay current prices. I’m not.

And about me burning out…I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon. I very much enjoy playing this game. This lodestone situation is just an annoyance for me, not a dealbreaking problem.

You can always place a buy order at whatever price you consider appropriate?

Anyway, BloomHunger has the lodestone in their loot table, if you run the fractal, and https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Evergreen_Sliver gives you the locations and enemies to kill.

Good luck.

You are right, I can place a buy order, but considering the current price I have my doubts that the sellers would share my idea of appropriate price. (I’m talking about 1g50s-ish per lodestone here. Not going to happen, I’m affraid.)

About the loot tables, are there maybe some charts with % chance to drop? Or is that impossible to count because of magic find?

Anyways guys, I’m really grateful for your advices here. Thank you! :)

Why won’t you buy them from the TP? At prices as of this moment:

  • Lodes are running 2.4-2.5 gold
  • Slivers enough to convert to lodes cost 2.3-2.4 gold (i.e. a kitteneaper to buy 16 slivers).

Well, there are two reasons…
First of all, I always try to find a way to obtain materials I need by myself. Especially materials I’ll need for a longer period of time.
And secondly, and this is strictly from my personal view, I don’t agree with the price on the Trading post. The difference between pre-Cadalbog price and today’s price is just too big.

Anyway, I’ve tried to do a few runs of Dragons stand today and a few slivers dropped for me…so I guess that could be the way. Slow, but we’re getting there… :)

You get them by killing Oakhearts. Even in regular Tyria.

So…I’ve spent an hour killing Oakhearts in Gendarran fields… either I’m extremely unlucky, or it isn’t as simple as it seems. I’ve got zero slivers and a huge urge to burn down the whole map.

I’ll try the HoT metas later today and we’ll see. Meanwhile, the price at Trading post is getting more and more ridiculous… not only a lot of people is doing SAB now, you need two lodestones for a cute super pine tree…that doesn’t help much, I guess.

No Easter event?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Eirinn.4250

I don’t think we’ll see an easter event in GW2, although I’m guessing we might get some gem shop easter-themed items such as bunny ears or an outfit.

And as much as I love these in-game holiday events, I don’t see why it is such a common practice to tie them to real life holidays. This is Tyria, with its own culture and history, which leaves a huge space for imagination. I’m thinking events like the queen’s jubilee? Famous battles’ anniversaries? Holidays celebrating the old Gods? Current SAB event is a perfect example of what I have in mind.

Also, given the fact that we don’t see any seasonal changes (there will always be autumn in Ascalon, or at least these maps feel autumn-ish to me), there is no reason to celebrate the comming of spring, for example.

@Illconceived Was Na I’d like to know the reason why should anybody have a problem with the date 5 november. :)

Scribe & Guild Halls

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yep, you don’t need a lot of people to do missions. For races and one-target bounty it only takes one person, as you can get help from other people on the map. You can even solo easy treks, if you’re lucky and have short loading times. We are able to do medium puzzles with minimum of six players, just takes a little bit of practice and communication. And with shorter supply of materials to make upgrades, you don’t need that much favour per week anyway.

So, as I’ve said before, everything takes a bit longer, but it’s doable. Have fun making your guild grow!

My guild consists of around five everyday-ish active people and a few twice-a-month fractal runners and from my experience so far I can tell you that everything is possible, but takes a lot more time and effort. Surely, large guilds are in an advantage here. And don’t get me started about the prices for upgrades and decorations, but it is possible. We claimed our hall with six people. There are around three of us mostly contributing for upgrades and decorations. And yet we’re growing and making our hall prettier every day. Personally, I’m more proud of our guild hall because we had to make bigger sacrifices than those large guilds.

Remove the Trib mode from Decor Achievement!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eirinn.4250

Eirinn.4250

Speaking as a person who can fail and fall horribly even at a few jumping platforms in fractals, I would welcome this change. It took me around two hours to do the hidden shops in world two, with the whole package of Dulfy and youtube guids. On infantile. With countless moments of “Should I grab my laptop and smash it against the wall now, or wait a few secs?”. So I’m quite certain that tribulation isn’t going to happen for me. I’ve tried. I’ve even got past first checkpoint…but there is only a limited number or falls from the same spot on the same spikes, before you go fully insane.

And yes, usually I’m in favour of a little work for achievements. I enjoy challenges and don’t need to have everything served on a silver plater. I don’t mind those hours spent in world two cursing ninjas and falling from ice-covered platforms. But this achievement is in my opinion basic stuff, not some fancy cosmetic thingy or mighty weapon, therefore should be available to most players possible.

And since we’re a small guild with just around eight casualy active people, some things are sadly unreachable for us at the moment. Yes, I’m talking about raid and world boss trophies.
So, maybe, there are some people with those trophies lying around in their inventories and bank slots just collecting dust? If that’s the case, I’ll be more than happy to recieve them and give them some love and a place to show their beauty. :)

Yes, this is exactly why we can’t have nice things.

As much as I respect the OP’s opinion, I just cannot agree with many of you here, taking the conversation to an absurd (and in today’s world, sadly, so popular) level. It’s a fanasy game. It’s a bunch of zeros and ones. If you don’t like the floppy fishy, don’t buy it.

Taking me as an example, I have an arachnophobia. Pretty bad one, actually. Yet I am able to distinguish between the real ones and fantasy-game ones. (Except for some cases when they jump at me out-of-nowhere. Yes, Dragon age’s caverns, I’m looking at you right now.) And I’m far away from telling you to delete your spider pets and burning down Maguuma.

To me, the fish doesn’t look like suffering. It’s silly and I won’t buy it, but mainly because my cat collection would tear that poor fishy apart. And I really don’t want to see the forum posts after that…

Hint: 40 evergreen slivers (I think? whatever the base thing that drops is) will double click their way to the lodestones needed, no crafting involved. I may be off on the number, whether that makes 1 or 5 lodestones. But check your bank for slivers, you may be swimming in them.

Yes, I am aware of that option. However, I’ve been unable to find a solid source for these slivers. There are rumours on Google about dropping from pods in Dragons Stand, but on my occasional runs I’ve never noticed them dropping in significant numbers. I was just wandering around our guildhall earlier this afternoon, thinking about adding some bushes and trees (because you can never ever have enough trees), when I saw the price on a trading post. Then I double checked I was looking on the right thing. Then I screamed and a flock of wild pigeons flew away in horror from a nearby field.

What the flying green kitten happened with the price? I remember them being a little below 1g. Then a few days back climbing up to 1.5g. And now nearly 2.5g?
Do you need them for some new shiny green legendary thing? Was the jungle suddenly left barren, without a single leaf in sight? I really don’t understand and because of my glorious plans with guildhall decorating, I’d really like to know if it’s just a temporary thing and the price will in some time drop a little down?

(And just in case it doesn’t. Anyone interested in buying my soul for a pack full of green lodestones? )
