Party Bonus Exist?

Well, since you don’t split exp between players, you can kill a mob twice as fast for the same reward as if you did it alone. That’s a bonus, in a way.

I can definitely understand why they would like to keep short messages like this in a micro blog format. I don’t see it as a problem. Maybe have a Twitter feed on the main page though?

I was disappointed to find that I couldn’t transmute accessories. I know it’s not shown on your character (I think?), but I really like the idea of my exotic earring being a shoelace stolen from a bandit.

I love the music of this game, I really do.

At least one of the tracks gives me a very Oblivion-y feel, but I don’t think of that as repetitive or anything. Just recognizable.

Actually, when I heard that you could put your own music into the game, one of the first soundtracks I thought of was the Total Annihilation score. Only some time later did I realize that too was made by Soule!

Why do Sylvari need underwater breathing apparatus?

in Lore

Posted by: Eki.9841

Eki.9841

I believe it’s stated in lore that sylvari do need to eat, although they need to eat less in sunlight. this suggests that they need to eat for energy, not just for nutrients. this, in turn, means they need oxygen consumption like we do.

This doesn’t work well, photosynthesis doesn’t convert sunlight to mass – they still need the same input of C,H,O,N as an animal.

Technically they would need less because they don’t move and don’t lose lots of energy to heat escaping from them.

Even MORE technically, the sunlight (or at least parts of it) IS turned into mass – the energy from it is used to bind together certain molecules. Because of our good friend E=mc², this means the final products weigh (slightly) more than the original components! VERY slightly, but there you go.

Obviously, the first point doesn’t apply to Sylvari, since they DO move, and their “muscles” and other body parts probably DO need heat to work.

Why do Sylvari need underwater breathing apparatus?

in Lore

Plants can drown, stick your plants under water and see if they live for long.

Yes, but how does the breathing apparatus help?

I really like that people think about these things, even though I don’t think it’s a “plot hole” (lore hole?), considering how different Sylvari are from other races as well as other plants.

Nice thinking though! Reminds me of some person who noticed that square fields in the human areas had rotating sprinklers.

you are assuming that sylvari don’t have lungs(or a lung anolouge) considering that they have stomachs, I don’t think that’s a good assumption.

I meant that as a response to “plants can drown”. If Sylvari were like regular plants, then a breathing apparatus wouldn’t make any difference, because plants “breathe” through their leaves (maybe other places as well?). That’s why I mentioned that they are different from plants. As I said, I don’t think this is an error, because Sylvari most likely have something akin to lungs (assumably picking up both carbon dioxide and oxygen). If nothing else, they need them to be able to talk (which, if they did nothing else, would mean the breathing apparatus was just there to keep their “lungs” free from water).

Yes, vistas can definitely give you information about the area that would otherwise be tough to get. Not always, but it does happen. I can’t recall any specific instance of it, but I do remember experiencing it myself.

How does one use worldwide chat?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Eki.9841

Eki.9841

It’s not world wide, but map wide. (Which is still a very large area most of the time.)

You can either click next to the chat box (where it probably says [Say] right now) and choose [Map] there, or type /map followed by whatever you wanted to say. I believe simply /m works as well. If you want to go back to local chat (for things that the whole map doesn’t want to see (like you thanking someone for a rez (thank them, they like it)), you type /say or /s.

There are other kinds of chat as well, like Guild chat and whisper. Whisper means only a specific player gets the message.

Edit: Ninja’d Didn’t know /l worked as well.

Elementalist fix: Let us weapon swap!

I would like an out of combat (and, by extension, out of sPvP) weapon switch. You get the same effect by having your weapons in your inventory and switching them that way…

But I don’t really see it as something hugely important, and I don’t think combat weapon switching is a good idea for the class.

Grinding out levels to do personal story.

in Personal Story

Posted by: Eki.9841

Eki.9841

I kind of agree, but at the same time, I think the way it works now is for the best.

If you don’t want to grind between quests, only do them when you’re at a high enough level to clear out a whole segment (about 10 levels). Sure, the first rewards will be below your level (I think?), but at least you don’t have to pause for five hours right between the undead advancing on a city and them attacking it. It’s not perfect, but…

I prefer to do the quests at about my level, and then “pretend” I went to the next quest as fast as I could. Seems to work for me. Sometimes I feel a bit irritated that I can’t continue the story right away, but I think that says more about the quality of the story than the progression rate of it.

Combos: great idea with no impact

As an elementalist, I absolutely love to buff myself with my own fields + blast finishers. I also use my fields when I notice I have projectile-shooting allies fighting with me.

However, I almost never react to other people’s fields (on purpose), either because I don’t realize they’re combo fields or because I don’t have time. I’ve never actually played while being in direct communication with someone though, maybe that would allow better coordination.

Not happy with sylvari story

I may have chosen another path, so this might not apply, but:

The lich sucks at aiming. By putting skill 2 on auto attack, keeping your distance, and just running back and forth (and not changing direction just as he fires), you’ll wither him down. Of course, his minions have to be dead. Lure them away, and all that stuff. He only summoned new minions once in my battle. By keeping your distance, the lich almost exclusively uses his ranged attack (which, if my tip actually applies for you, will miss). Get too close and he’ll Fear you and probably do other nasty stuff as well. I died SO many times on this mission; one or two more deaths and I would’ve given up because too much of my armor was gone.

I do agree that the sword could use some polishing, but I understand why it’s there. Maybe make it profession specific?
