Lol, no MGT players use macros when they play. It’s just one of our more senior players being ridiculous and pulling that stunt because he could.

I’d like to add my ideas about instruments and macros.

I don’t use instruments, because I’m really too bad to play a song ( :’[ ). But if I had one, I would be happy to be able to use macros with it, cause I know that without macros I would not be able to do anything good with the instrument I bought.

In my opinion, people saying “He’s using macro, he’s cheating” don’t take this into consideration. Some just can’t play music as easily as you can, don’t be silly and let them play music, even if they don’t play music like you.

That’s why I appreciated it when Cody said this :

For some, the barrier between having an instrument and making music is overly daunting, and there are other methods out there to simply play a song.

Respect the others and how they are playing music, even if they take the “easy way”, and remember what Gaile said : people using macros have a limited playlist, you don’t.

Macro user songs number far greater than what any single person can memorize so they can play a far greater variety of songs that what most musicians can play by hand without a sheet.

Players that play instruments by hand also usually don’t have an issue with respecting other musicians as they understand musical etiquette and how difficult it is to play a song by hand as well as how rude it is to interrupt someone, but those who interrupt our songs by pressing one key sitting back and watching how it messes up the player who actually needs to hear what he is playing in order to play. Basically, there is no way a person who is playing an instrument by hand can continue playing when a macro player interrupts them.

It is cheating when the macro player gets paid gold in donations for their macros when someone thinks they are playing by hand. It happens all the time. It’s basically free gold as you afk!

Hi this is Aytanhi an officer and founding member of the macro-free musical duet/orchestral guild Musician’s Guild of Tyria (MGT) from Blackgate NA,

I had a macro player interrupt a duet with a friend and then continuously brag to me that he earned over 100 gold in donations simply by afking and playing instruments with macros all while calling the people who donated him gold gullible fools. Do you really think that macros for music give no unfair advantage to people playing the game legitimately?

But that’s not the worse part. It’s worse when some macro player comes and interrupt what we are playing with a full blown macro simply because we can no longer play legitimate music with other players because someone’s macro is interrupting our cues and tempos and they can keep on continuing to play without making a mistake.

Or when someone who accuses you of using macros intentionally comes over to spam notes all off of the basis of trying to interrupt your macro song even though you are playing the instrument legitimately by hand, and this has happened numerous times.

We have had many members lose interest in making and writing music because of macros. We even made our guild’s music sheet private because of what happened to our sister guild Cmaj in the EU.

Or even worse, when people start heckling you because you accuse a macro music player who lies about playing their music by hand and their nearby listeners and donors say that you are jealous because you’re not as good as a musician as the macro user.

Needless to say, if you think macros convey no advantage in this game, you need to reconsider your policy even when it comes to musical instruments.

I see your point about bach. I just hope new people who pick up an instrument from the gemstore don’t just think it is alright to macro any song since I’m sure it is the same thing as using a bot.

Honestly, I’m not sure, but I’m going to ask Customer Support about it. The fact is, we have a policy against automating gameplay through the use of macros or bots. But music? I just don’t know if the rules about third-party programs extend to non-game-related situations.

Really? You do realize that people are earning gold this way? They sit around and play a macro and set it on loop and go to bed. They wake up with whatever people donated to them because they thought they were playing music with their own hands like a street performer.

Was this a blue screen or a guild wars 2 error message?

It can mean any number of things from an overheating card to a bad driver to a corrupted game install.

Anyone else having an issue with getting sweetfx to run on Guild Wars 2 with the new generation 5960x processors and X99 motherboards that came out last month? I just built a new rig with them and sweetfx refuses to start with Guild Wars 2. The logon screen will load but when you hit play, nothing will pop up and the game will automatically close. According to friends they just see me log on and log off real quick.

All of the old fixes don’t seem to work anymore, moving the files d3d9.dll, dxgi.dll and injector to the bin, adding -email -password -nopatchui to command line, replacing the d3d9.dll(game will launch but sweetfx won’t apply), moving the Guild Wars 2 Directory, and renaming the injector file all have not remedied the problem. I even installed sweetfx on another machine with guild wars 2 to make sure I wasn’t doing anything wrong and it worked fine on that one so it’s not my methods. Anyone else with the new x99 based systems have any luck or problems with getting Guild Wars 2 to run with Sweetfx?

I’ve had the exact same issue, but it is with a brand new PC built off of the x99 motherboard. Any luck with yours? Guild wars 2 still works with sweetfx on my old pc and I’ve reinstalled gw2 and windows on both to make sure I was doing it right.

On the X99 motherboard based pc with sweetfx nothing pops up after I hit play.

i can understand that ppl are not happy with players who claim they do it them self but do understand, being able to play an instrument IRL doesn’t make you an expert in the game.
i can play the keyboard a bit but completely suck at using the in-game instruments, is it then wrong for me to use a 3rd party programs to get my money’s worth?

i do support ppl who are against such things to player who use programs like that yet claim they do it them self, when you do it your self i congrats them for mastering it in-game.
just keep in mind, not everyone is as skilled and able to play an instrument in-game, not everyone claims they do it them self and i for one would not mind admitting that i use a 3rd party program to play my instrument.

You know, there is such thing as taking the time and effort to learn the game or the instruments in this game.

I can honestly say 100% that I was nowhere near as good as I am now when I first started playing the instruments in this game.

Now -that- is a very focused, personal hatred right there. I certainly enjoy making my own musical failures rather thkittening macros, but come on. Let people have fun however they feel like if they aren’t doing any harm in the process.

Yeah, I didn’t really care until the guy started claiming that he was pressing every single key that the macro was pressing for him and wasn’t using a macro.

So lately there has been an issue with macro users showing up in-game and playing wonderful pieces of music all via a single key press.

Last night I encountered someone in Divinity’s Reach who was using auto hot key to play a piece with an automatic key pressing program from outside of the game and it was quite obvious because of his perfect tempo and lack of improvisational capabilities.

He claimed that he was using a piano keyboard which converted inputs into the in-game system.

I called him out on it and asked him to play some scales or switch up the major chords to minor chords and people started booing at me and saying that I was angry because I wasn’t as good as a musician as he was.

I have long known about the macro songs and how people played them. Eventually someone showed up and played the exact same macro song he was playing with the exact same notes and tempo and he shut the kitten up and logged off.

So my question to you Arenanet is, what exactly is your stance on macros with musical instruments? Is it okay? Are multiple key press macros fine?

To be honest, all of this macro instruments is really turning me off when someone who has never ever picked up an instrument in their entire life can run over and take all the credit.

I’d rate the ranger charr at 6.5/10. It’s hard to get the right armor combination for medium/light on Charr but you did a pretty good job at it. The only thing that bothers me is that there’s too much large horns/spikes (for me) in that armor combination.

Yeah, it’s actually quite difficult finding other players with musical experience and the ability to play songs with other players. So far out of hundreds of people playing instruments I have only encountered 2 that can actually keep tempo and play with others.

So here’s to hoping that Guild Wars 2 will become a game known for its talented musical playerbase.

Artillery barrage (Charr Elite) is Just Useless….. I woldnt even use it if it was a utility skill… Its really that bad.

The real question is: would you use mortar instead of it?

Yeah, the Charr Artillery Barrage is probably the worst elite in the game doing less than half the damage of meteor shower at 8 times the cooldown.

Necro will win by far if they’re equally skilled.

Yeah, the range hardly makes any sense. Who would call down an artillery barrage on themselves.

Also, the front paws don’t leave any prints at all.

Reaper of Grenth and become snow leopard are very strong racial elites as powerful as any non-racial elite. Warband support is not as strong as thieve’s guild, but it’s a thieves guild that any class can use so it fits in well with racials being weaker than class elites.

The Charr Artillery Barrage is the weakest elite in the game. It does less than half the damage of meteor shower, has an insanely long cooldown, and only has a range of 450 meters. If it the range were to be increased to say 1200, and the cooldown halved it’d be at least in line with other racial elites, but right now it’s probably the weakest elite skill in the game.

Here’s a breakdown of the stats of these two skills in wvw with the same gear and buffs.

Artillery Barrage also has a small impact blast radius that I do not know currently.

Can someone at arena net look into this skill? It’s cool having a charr to call in artillery strikes but it’s the most useless skill in the game!

Can’t be fixed. It’s how the materials are processed, cloth dyed the same color as metal will look different because they reflect light differently in the game. The only choice you have is to pick a different dye that approximates the color of the dye you are trying to match.

The real question isn’t if Charr eat Humans, but if Humans eat Charr, the armor they wore from GW1 strongly suggests they did…

Charr charging attacks are pretty graceful, but charr are beasts first and foremost so they have more beastly characteristics in their animations.

Yeah, charr elites are pretty worthless, artillery barrage is completely useless as well. I hope the devs take a look at them, as currently Charr probably have the worst racial elites out of all the races in the game.

Actually this is my WvW / Spvp build. I rarely do PVE as it’s pretty boring, but pvp has been boring lately too so I’m doing other stuff.

Well, I have no idea what the upcoming nerf holds for the ele, but quick before it happens! Here I am fighting Kholer with his buddies solo for the first time ever!

You obviously have no idea what uses and how much utility the focus has in wvw.
