On Ryzen 1600 the game seems to be able to make limited use of more threads, but it’s very limited. There are 3 to 4 threads which are loaded to about 80-90% and all the others at 5-20%. They are used, but very little. The performance is really good also in WvW which is my mostly played game mode.

I could guess that 7700K would be the best CPU for this game, followed by Ryzen 1600(x) or 1700(x). I bought Ryzen for myself because I’m too stingy to spend so much money on i7.

Threadripper is pointless for gaming, although if you are buying the PC for CPU heavy working and also gaming during free time, it will be OK. Just don’t buy it solely for games.

Is it in crowded places/events/WvW where you get those drops? To which values?

What are exactly those “recommended” settings, especially character model limit/quality, shadows and animations?

950M is definitely not slower than integrated, but it might be the integrated GPU being used. Be sure to have found out how to manually choose the NVidia card when starting the game.

Better get a desktop because they offer far better performance for the same price.

You can play on a laptop and even my, 4 years old with i7-3630QM and Radeon 7970M worls well enough. I do get drops to about 15-20fps in blob fights with character limits at medium. Newer generation CPUs should work significantly better. Something with an i7 and GTX1060 should let you max out the settings.

There is one problem with it and it’s the price. A 1060 laptop costs so much that you could get a desktop with a 1080 for same money.

Thanks to Kodash there is some action in this matchup. AG is overwhelmed, but I’m enjoying it. You prefer dead matches and empty maps for almost all day? I don’t.

This week we have more action, more fun and more challenges to overcome.

Thanks Anet for this matchup. I hope there’ll be more like this. SFR or Gandara would also be nice ;-)

64bit client won't update/run

Yep 64-bit client is now broken. Can’t download the patch or even launch.
Sometimes it works after a few minutes of retrying. But then it DLs at the awesome speed of 1KB/s.

32-bit client downloads everything very fast.

One thing that also made it worse is auto upgrades. No consequences of losing stuff. If it is to stay that way, I’d suggest making upgraded stuff tick for more than paper to make some incentive to defend.

WvW has been in decline, but HoT exacerbated it so direly. Before HoT my server had queues on 3/4 borders at evenings and not there are no more queues. The server went UP in ranks in the meantime.

There could be stuff like meta-events with participation % to give better reward.

Well there must be some other ways of rewarding players. Other than simple loot bags.

Something must be done since guilds raid for 2h/day while the rest is done by pugs. And pugs don’t give a kitten about joining WvW anymore.

The only kind of reward I want is the satisfaction of destroying enemy zergs with coordinated squads.

Co you are one of maye 5-10% of pre-HoT WvW players.

Tried new PvE maps? Do a meta event, about 1h30m long and… get more loot than in WvW in 6 hours!

Most of WvW guild members come only for 2h raid at 8 PM while spending the rest in PvE. A vast majority of players cares about the rewards. Casuals now have little reason to come.

The new borders don’t need to be removed, but they should be fixed. They have some advantages like shrines, lots of choke points and terrain features making fights more interesting.

They have too many issues though. Issues which make them a bad option to play with a smaller group. They have been described in many threads.

Sadly we must face one obvious fact:

WvW is just a cherry on a big PvE/PvP cake. It’s just a little extra. Even if Anet decided to shut it down GW2 would do perfectly fine as a whole.

Moreover the content which involves fighting players needs less attention. No need to add extra maps every few months to keep people playing. This is why it tends to be a bit forgotten. In the end it will go on somehow.

WvW is completely unrewarding and currently I find no reason for casual general PvX players to join it. Only dedicated hardcore WvW-ers keep playing.

If you want new armour or weapon skins – farm PvE. Everything is in PvE.

PvP-ers have got some consolation thanks to reward tracks.

But in WvW? Hardly anything.

As a result even many WvW guilds, while not raiding, are mostly spending their time in Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths and Dragon’s Stand.

My server is top silver league and it looks like bronze league before HoT. WvW is dying and new borders, not loved by many, are hardly a sufficient explanation to that. People kept telling “wait a few days next week will be better” but literally nothing has changed since the first day of HoT. People want new skins, new legendaries and PvE is the only way to get anythign decent in this game.

First difference is faster loading screens.
The performance seems the same when the game is loaded.

It may be causing some lagspikes (network, not fps ones) to me occasionally. I need to do firther testing to confirm it’s related to 64-bit client.

Now the only mode that is rewarding is PvE. Anet is just pushing all non-PvE players to grind mobs instead of doing what they want.

Well, sadly it’s gonna take much longer than you expect. The reason is that 90% of WvW players are pushing for legendaries which means ditching WvW for quite some time.

Well the main problem is whether you play a char you did all old map completions with or not.

If you did, you already have almost half of hero points you need. Just do a few easy ones on new maps and you are done. In 2 days.

But if you changed your main you are screwed for weeks of grinding.

Before, they could not have built an offensive AC because of being under fire of several superiors.

Now ACs can’t reach many spots including places where rams are placed to destroy doors. Not all doors, but at the ones at EB keeps.

Not long ago it was very possible for 15 people to defend a T3, fully sieged keep against a huge blob. Arrow carts were the main part of such defence.

But now ACs are virtually useless. Now you can’t defend anything if you are outnumbered because ACs can’t reach rams.

Thanks then for making karma train blobbing even more easy peasy effortless.

Shadows: off
Rest: highest, don’t affect the framerate
Result: 15 is the lowest in huge zergs, 20-30 is typical during fights

The main problem is that GW2 is still DX9.

DX11 was the first to introduce some kind of support for multi-core rendering. Some games (many Cryengine 3 titles) can even utilize HT in i7’s.
DX12 will push it even further and make even more improvement.

But we can’t expect GW2 gaining support for either.
Imho it made no sense of Anet to do so since DX11 cards have been around for so long that if someone has such old hardware his computer won’t run GW2 properly anyway. Such old computers serve people mainly for web browsing and watching films. Putting DX11 support in min requirements wouldn’t harm the population.

If CU renders 180 players at 60fps it MUST be using DX11+.

About a year ago I stopped having the issue thanks to lowering the sound quality or just thanks to it being finally fixed. It didn’t happen to me for many months.

A few days ago, I guess after tuesday patch, the problem returned and it happens a lot in WvW. No need to describe as it’s the same old stuff as in the thread I have linked. So I want you to know that it’s back now.

Hello

I have had some weird issues with latency recently. Usually it’s 50-80ms, but when it happens it increases to 200-500ms and the game feels terribly laggy. Usually it goes away itself after some time.

So far I have determined that it’s almost certainly not a problem with my connection. All other applications work fine (40ms 0% loss on TS).

Sometimes changing map in game makes the problem go away, but it reappears when I go back. I tested it by going to another map and back several times today (between EB and Aurora Glade borderlands, but the problem isn’t limited to WvW).

This is funny, especially in big blobs in WvW. With FoV at:

- 0-30%: ~20-25FPS
- 30-100%: ~5-15FPS

while looking at the same zerg in the same place (just stacking and killing siege on a wall). The test repeated many times.

Without blob on the screen it drops from 60 to 30fps.

It’s funny because there is a certain point below which framerates stays high and when u move the slider just 1 pixel to the right fps drop by more than half. Between let’s say 50% and 100% there is almost 0fps difference.

Playing on laptop with i7-3630QM, 16GB of RAM and a Radeon 7970M.

One thing is, that when you move FoV slider fps drops heavily for a few seconds to go a bit up after. So it’s better to wait a few seconds after moving it while adjusting.

Yeah it happens.

The worst is when your T3 keep is under attack, needs supplies for more siege and… someone orders “hire patrol” upgrade to drain it. I have had a few situations like that.

Maybe some kind of “vote to cancel” option requiring let’s say 10 votes to do it and return supplies would work?

For the last few days I have had issues like:

- disconnect
- can’t connect back for about 5-10min (inet connection 100% good, 0% packet loss, TS works fine)
- after several minutes the game starts working again

It happens randonly. Nothing helps – DNS flush, router reset etc. I can only wait for the thing to go away.

I had trouble when I needed to sabotage the fields “once more” (first time is easy). Whenever I was on 4th one, bots have already repaired the 1st. Couldn’t do it fast enough and there seemed to be nothing to prevent those mobs from repairing the shield.

But… this part had a second option – combat. Just reveal yourself. It’s a very easy fight and when it’s done, this part is complete.

Well the matchups already tend to be boring since each servers keeps facing same enemies over and over again. TBH I’d even prefer (very occasional) matchups like Vabbi+SFR as a variation. Seeing same 2-3 servers is not that much fun either.

Before you ask for more balanced matchups check if you ever have any servers in leaderboards that can be a challenging, but not impossible enemy.

There is one thing which has not been updated since the megaserver thing.

It is the cost of server transfers. It’s still based on the overall population which includes players who do only PvE. With Megaserver servers prectically exist only in WvW so there is no point.

A good example: Aurora Glade
The server is just in the middle of the silver league having quite a nice, but relatively small WvW community. It costs 1.8k gems to move to Aurora Glade which is nearly as much as the top gold league servers – SFR and Desolation, which cost 2.4k. Because of that it is extremely hard to attract new guilds to AG.

Why it cost so much? Aurora Glade has one of the biggest PvE communities. Those people hardly ever appear in WvW.

My proposition is to base the cost of transfers on the outcome of the last season. Why this?
- it is a good measure of the strength of a server in WvW
- season rewards are a good thing to counter the urge to drop in ranks purposefully in order to become cheaper to bring more players

Solution to fix the population imbalance

A way to fix WvW is to accept that lot of player only play guild wars 2 get loot. So why not make WvW give as much loot as PvE.

So introduce WvW exclusive tracks similar to sPvP, but design in such a way that its progressives faster than getting WvW levels. Make the amount of loot and reward you get equivalent or greater than PvE. PvE will always have more players by virtue of certain players being afraid of any PvP, but a lot of people don’t do WvW because it rewards are terrible.

This would attract some players, but those (mainly PvE-focused champion/karma trainers) would only be interested in loot instead of being focused on server score, defending, tactic etc. They hardy help a server since they tend to only appear when there is easy loot, which is, during a matchup against significantly weaker servers. When your server gets matched up against a more powerful enemy, they mysteriously disappear and suddenly you have 10 instead of 50 people on commander.

So the result would be the opposite of what you want. Even more imbalance and disproportion between servers.

If you are not confident about what you’re doing don’t expect others to believe in you and stack on you when pushing on a bigger group. If you are like “uuhhh yhhhh well… let’s go .left” people will run away in all directions instead of come with you and push on enemy group.

If you don’t know what to do at least try acting as if you did.

My TP window in game is completely blank.

I have tried:
- flushing DNS
- clearing cache (temp folder)
- resetting router
- repairing game

Nothing helps.
Seems that starting the game as administrator did help, although i need to observe the behaviour for some time.
I have had this issue occasionally recently and just today it prevented me from opening the TP.

The issue is followed by the lack of possiblity to close the game. It hangs when exiting then and I can’t close it with task manager. Need Windows reboot.

Let’s hope starting it as admin did solve the issue.

I don’t know what server you play on, but I can usually see the opposite: EOTM being empty and everyone in normal WvW. People mostly play it while queuing for EB.

EOTM is a karma train map because of one and only one reason: it is not ranked. PPT don’t matter there so there is no point to defend. It’s even better to let the enemy capture your keep so you can get WXP and badges for recapping it!

EOTM as a ranked map would even be better than for example EB. The distances between points are bigger, so it would often be impossible for a zerg to run in time to defend a tower. It would force huge blobs to split in order to cover a map.

- Mostly skill lag, but recently I have seen also rubberbanding in extreme circumstances.
- Aurora Glade
- Hardly ever. It’s usually the opposite. I am often one of the last to suffer, but in recent days it has deteriorated significantly. When I have issues, many do as well and I can see a lot of complaining on map chat. Maybe because of Vizunah’s Square in the matchup?
- Yes, there are almost always orange swords on the map. Especially if they happen in Stomenist Castle.
- >50 usually, very often 3-way battles

I can add that it does not matter if I take part in a battle or not. I have had situations like I was scouting Quentin Lake, roaming far away from it or running a dolyak and started having terrible lags when all three servers entered the lord room in SM.

I usually have 40-60+ fps in Wvw and even during huge battles it drops only to around 15-20fps, which is much better than many people have.

I have checked my connection many times in such cases by running something like “ping 8.8.8.8 -n 250”. Always same result: ~30ms latency, 0 packets lost.

Constant DCs in Eternal Battlegrounds

I don’t have DC’s, but I experience terrible lags not seen before. And it’s not only me, but the whole guild and /m, /t chats talking about it.

I was near SM wall, started to revive a down player. The progress bar didn’t go up. After a second I was in my keep. Yet, from what I hear from people I still run better than many who are starting to give up on playing because of that.

During this, I have 0% packet loss and 30ms latency as usual.

When lags happen? Whenever there are orange swords on the map. No matter you are at the other end of EB (or recently even borderlands are affected) running with 60fps and fighting a a tiny group of enemies with your roamer group. It will still lag for you like hell.

Someone should lose his job I think. More than a year and still they can find NO SOLUTION to this issue and if they do something, it only exacerbates the situation and makes it unplayable.

Or maybe solving this would cost money and Anet comes with a reasoning like:
(Lag in WvW doesn’t make people quit the game) => (no financial loss from it) => (no point investing money to help it) => (leave it as it is and ignore the community)

Well AG is ranked 12-14.
Servers we most often get are: Desolation, Baruch Bay, Kodash, Riverside
Being matched against silver league servers is pretty much an exception for us.

Why is it like it?
Well, if a server which ends up a matchup as 3rd it does not always lose ranking points. If you are matched against much higher ranked servers you will probably gain them regardless of having lost. This is what happened to AG.
1. Matched against gold league servers
2. Lost
3. Gained points regardless, because they have much higher ranks, so we deserve a reward for courage
4. Thanks to positive deviance AG is matched again against gold league servers

For example (from my memory) AG lost against Kodash+Piken Square, but still gained ranking and next week got matched against Riverside+Baruch Bay. A server can be stuck with much higher ranked servers for quite long like that and thanks to those “points for courage” it may even be pushed into higher league for a while (AG, not having won a matchup for months, was 10th at one point!).

Randoms following guild groups instead of pug commander are quite common in WvW and since they are often upscaled or just bad, they can ruin the battle for a guild easily by rallying the enemies.

Such a change would make it significantly less annoying for guilds because now there is no way to prevent randoms from following a guild raid.
