the waypoint limitation idea seems way too easily griefed by spies/trolls and really doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. other than that i would be happy with all of these ideas being implemented.
maybe the center event could be changed to be significantly easier to complete and deal damage or temporarily disable siege instead of killing gates. this would at least reduce the effectiveness of turtling.
I mean gliding has to be limited or you could just bypass gates and walls, but, I agree, the main problems I have are with travel.
Just moving 25% faster doesn’t make barricades stop punishing roamers disproportionately compared to zergs though, or make autoupgrades more interactive. I think making sentries movespeed buffers gives roamers and scouts more ways to contribute to maps overall, and could allow for some more dynamic encounters where groups can outmaneuver other groups thanks to a small amount of area control. And removing the debuffs and making them buffs makes them more about rewards and less about frustration.
Background: I have been away from gw2 for 2 years and came back a few weeks before HoT specifically because new borderlands were coming to WvW. I love WvW and I love gw2 and want to give some constructive feedback instead of complaining. A lack of variety in maps is what burned my guild out, so I am excited to play this new map extensively.
Here are my ideas to fix the problems I currently have with the map, primarily addressing navigating, especially as a solo roamer:
Rebrand Towers to Watchtowers, remove barricades and replace them with something that triggers the Marked buff instead.
Change all sentries to NPCs (Chronomancers?) that when claimed provide something (like a well) you can run through that gives nonstacking Superspeed(30s), so that controlling them allows for faster travel around the map.
Change autoupgrade, just make them free upgrades that a player has to select so that we can still participate and whole maps aren’t fully upgraded without any attention from the controlling team.
Tie upgrade times closer with Yaks, if no Yaks make it to the structure at all, the upgrade should never complete.
Make Waypoints one of the later upgrades for all the keeps and never a default thing.
Change the Earth Turrets that cripple, make them something that provides some limited Stability or Protection to the team that controls them instead.
Change the Wind Turrets that knockback, make them provide a large amount of Swiftness(60s) and some Fury to the team that controls them instead.
Make limited gliding available only over the oasis in the center of the map and from the cliffs surrounding the center of the map, make it an ability we can spend ability points on to increase the duration/speed we glide.
Make the lava deep enough to jump into from that hole in the desert area above the West Keep without dying to fall damage.
Change the reset time, resetting on Saturday night means that, most weeks, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be meaningless in terms of PPT. If you don’t want to revert reset back to Fridays, make it Thursday so that the most important days become Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Change the middle event to only require 10 power cores to complete, or change the mobs we have to kill to something far less tedious.
Make it so we can use our skills while carrying a power core.
Remove the marked buff that is placed on enemies inside of a keep when it is captured, or at least make it last significantly less time than it currently does.

well BT has always been an open field fighting guild which does not focus on ppt, thus FA may experience a ~30-40 ppt decrease during 3 hours of NA primetime…. no big deal really if anything even happens. it’s possible that even more individuals on FA will be able to rally now
I’d like to shed some light on our thinking with this AC change as well as tell you all what we are doing right now to balance it.
Firstly, when siege weapons were originally created, they had the intent of being really good at some things and not so good at others. The arrow cart is intended to be the anti-personal siege weapon. It is intended that arrow carts are all about controlling an area through damage. If you remain in the area that is being hit by the arrow cart, you will die. You can however, move out of the space and/or find a new way to attack the intended target. That being said, they are not intended to be so good against other siege weapons and we are in the process of addressing that right now. We are also addressing their range when upgraded to be more in line with the range of ballistas.
Secondly, this change is going to require new tactics and those tactics include things like using ballista and catapults to destroy arrow carts. With that in mind, we’ve been looking more closely at the numbers of all the siege weapons and there are definitely some changes that need to be made to bring them in line with their intent. We are going to take a holistic pass at siege weapons in the coming months and drop a rebalance of all of them to get them to more closely align with what they should be doing.
Finally, the feedback you all provide is a very useful part of this whole process. WvW is a living, breathing game type and any changes we make have numerous consequences that don’t become fully visible until everyone starts interacting with them and devising new strategies. Our goal is to provide a complex combat space that rewards skill, tactics, and ingenuity and while we haven’t fully achieved that goal yet, I like to think we are getting there.

Why do transfer costs have to be such a kitten lol. It’s costing my guild 14-20k gold to xfer our WvW core which is equivalent to around $10,000 USD. That’s if we really cut it down and trim ~200 semi-active players =\
If gem prices go up May 1 I think it will take CO until the end of May to fully transfer over and to be able to be in full force again. Until then we can only run 20-30 man teams a night during the weekdays and unfortunately prolly max 40-50 people this reset. Also, unfortunately until we can get situated we won’t bee too much help for DB since our #1 priority is to farm the gold to get our team here.

The term bandwagoner is thrown out to every guild that doesn’t transfer to a T3 or lower server. CO had to move because we were losing players due to the toxic atmosphere that is on Kaineng. The constant negativity gets old after 2-3 months. Kaineng’s NA teams were under a lot of stress. Anyone that argues against that is a kitten The 3 NA guilds that could influence the change in PPT by a lot had to cover from 1pm EST – 2am EST everyday. We had no EU guilds and a very fair weathered server. I do wish Kaineng the best however, if anyone thinks I was going to let my guild die on that server just because of server pride you are wrong.
bandwagoning for legitimate reasons or not, i don’t see why any of the rest of us should feel bad for your transfer costs… maybe don’t post about them if you don’t want people to comment about your transfer process.

my goodness, TC really got defensive about the transfers. FA gets defensive when guilds like PINK, DIS, and sometimes TSL challenge FA’s ability to pvp then respond to FA’s challenges by saying they wipe FA all the time and point to the scoreboard like it demonstrates anything other than coverage.

When we were back in T3 ticking away at +500ish PPT everybody would get bored and log off. if you guys “focused FA” out of the tier like I hear about, you would be pretty bored.

As for all the QQing about TC being too powerful… Even with this score, TC only wins 15 ranking at the moment.
If TC only wins 15 rankings at the end of each week, it would cost another 8 weeks of this to move to T2: TC needs 115 points to go there and no one looses more than 2 points in T1 at the moment.
Also… the higher the score of TC, the less ranking TC gets for this point gap each week, so…
You realize this is terrible news right? Having an even matchup where any of the servers can win any week for 8 weeks is one thing (amazing), but spending 8 weeks where everyone knows the outcome beforehand… yikes. My guild actually died during TC and FA’s first extended matchup due to stagnation in wvw, only 3 of the 50 casual players still log in. I’m sure the difference in population will only become more apparent as the weeks go on.
Question to FA and KN, out of curiosity, but are your WvW communities just as happy and excited to WvW at the end of the week (not with just THIS week, but I mean historically and lately to now), or do you have your moments across the week?
From an FA perspective, it feels like our best attendance is on reset night and over the weekend. Our weekend scoring definitely reflects that. Forum warriors aside, I think our population base skews towards the college/workforce age groups, which typically means we have less participation during the week. It has seemed like this both recently but also dating back to our tier 3 days.
Also some of our bigger WvW guilds have meetings and/or bounty nights scheduled during the week, which drops attendance on random nights.
We also have the same things going on. The problem is, you guys seem to get a lot of fairweather players out on the weekend, then come monday, your forces shrink dramatically. We’ve had the same problem on TC before. Since we are an RP server though, all we have to do is throw a dolyak parade to get people to come out. Not sure what the answer is to you guys getting more militia to come out.
Personally, I think the difference during the week lies primarily in population of our two servers. When one of FA’s larger WvW guilds takes a night off it means one of the borderlands is probably completely empty, when one of TC’s larger WvW guilds takes a night off it might mean one of the borderlands lacks significant organization (but not man power, since TC has that huge total server population).
I really don’t think FA has a problem with fairweathers more than any other server because the problem can actually appear magnified when we are winning rather than losing. When FA has more points the WvW guilds probably feel more comfortable doing something else for a night or two.
So, rather than posting what I’m snacking on at the moment (primarily because I am on campus and hungry)…

actually it was a post specifically designed to troll TC… i’m quite shocked at how well it worked, since it was on the FA forums and I thought obviously looked like troll bait.
First time poking in this thread. I know there’s been a huge uproar about our moving to TC and I can only say we moved to just have some fights. The maximum roster of [Awe] does indeed show 300 members, however our actual active players is probably not even half that (we’ve been in this game since game start and cleaning up is impossibly hard to do). We are a PvX casual guild with a slight focus on WvW (due to the nature that I like to WvW) and so we have a handful of WvW players. The absolute most we have ever fielded was 30, on a reset night, after 3 days heads up and playing since morning. Our average numbers number from 10-25 with a mix of PvEr’s and actual hardcore WvW players. We will probably lose some of our players so I expect less numbers. We aren’t fielding some kinda crazy 40-50 man zerg, if anyone says that its just pubs following my marker, due to having no other commander turning on their tag.

Oh c’mon, every decent guild has like 400+ members but you will be hard pressed to find even100 active members in them. And out of that, not everyone will be transferring as well. So, i am quite sure that the number of transfers will be much less than these.
Stop exaggerating that we will get like 500-700 members. As someone who spent months in T1, if we can pull out those kinda numbers, then we are well above BG/SoR atleast in the SEA/Oceanic zone.
I know that AVTR has 50 total members and BT has less than 100. Are neither of those guilds decent?

I don’t think FA has given up at all, I think FA is just doing what it has always done, having fun killing and not losing sleep over ppt. To be honest I think that attitude, while looked down upon or disagreed with by many, has allowed FA to survive situations that other servers have fallen apart under. In the long run FA is more sustainable that way, in my opinion.
I guess now that TC is in first it’s time for the TC trolls to insult FA with condescension and accusations. FA isn’t and has never given up. Start hugging your own trolls.

Well I wouldn’t call it forum wars. Just a bunch of regular trolls that have a “troll post” written on each and every post in their history. Most populated =/= most WvW populated. TC has more PvE population compared to WvW. We have nonstop Jormag and Maw announcement services on our WvW map chats and our commanders take their hog zergs to kill the dragons first as a warmup before hog-zerging over WvW maps.

It did start out with those odds when we broke through the south gate, but then we were pretty much stalemated until we got more people on. At the end when we managed to get into lords room I’d say the numbers were about even.
Credit where credit is due, don’t emulate the servers/guilds who loudly insist that they’re perpetually at a disadvantage to the skill-less zerging Kaineng when they’re losing, yet still somehow brag endlessly about lootbags.
and to be fair there are definitely some guilds that are on losing servers, but still earn lots of lootbags from Kaineng zergs.. just click a few of the PINK or BT videos to observe.
